Canon Powershot SD870 IS
Completely met my expectations relative to the picture quality, sharpness, and ease of use. Very portable. Zoom lens comes in handy when needed. A must for those people on the go and don't want bulky gadgets. Can't go wrong.........

Great camera!
I have bought this in order to block the precious moments of my new child and completely they are satisfied. The images are much clear and of great quality and more of importance, the speed of the stopper is fast so as to I obtain to block to those smiles and wonderful expressions. The sfuocature are minimal particularly when I choose the regulation of kids/pets. The others prestabilito the regulations are moreover much easy to use (ritratto, night blows, of the inside, etc.) therefore I obtain every turns the perfect images. Moreover I love it that the visore of the LCD monitor/picture is ENORMOUS so as to I see the images very clearly. That is completely worthy the price and highly I suggest it!


Great little point and shoot
The SD870 Is is one large camera of the shooting and the point. The wide objective really makes one difference in your images contributing to include more. The stabilization of image is superb, also when you are zumati to the maximum and a small wiggle it would render the things blurry. The camera in if it is to observe much pleasant one, particularly that screen from 3 inches on the posterior part. The keys are a po' cramped therefore if you have large barrette, could wish to verify a model of the exposure in the first place. I love the battery, holds loads for a real time a lot, I have not been able to consume the battery and I have taken the lotteries of the images. The OH and the video quality are really large, they obtain a gorillapod for it and you will everywhere make the videos wherever and for youtube.


Canon did it again
I bought this camera for my sister cuz she's been taking my camera & using it for the longest time. But b4 I handed over to her I've tested out to see the improvement. Everything looked great including the picture quality but only thing I had trouble with was the touch-sensitive scroll button. And since I'm not gonna use this camera, I don't really care. I just hope she doesn't break it & ask for mine again. That's a lil sis for ya. I blame my parents for bring my lil sister into this world to continue to antagonize me.( of course I was just joking ) Anyways, hope this helps.


Very Good Camera
I have no complains after using it for over 1 month. The picture quality is pretty good. Compare to SD850IS, this one is better looking too :) especially the Black option.

Great camera in any light!
I have tried many brands of cameras: Kodak, Fuji, Sony....This camera beats all of them hands down. The battery life is phenomenal, the pictures in light and dark come out very clear with little digital noise, there is easy access to manual controls, face detection and image stabilization work wonderfully, easy to work and figure out....I'm still discovering all of the features. I would definately recommend to a novice and to an experienced shutter bug!


Excellent pics, size, LCD...all you could ask for
I was using a Nikon Coolpix 2100 for the years, ancient from odierni the champions, however I have always thought that it took the pics large. That one was until that you did not see that what this camera can make. SPEED DISTORTION! That clarity! And the format of the LCD is impressive. Never really I have used my old visore on my old camera and that I know that I will not lack it on this. It is a great format and with the case that of the OEM I have bought, it great measure on my strap. Camera highly suggested.


Great Camera
Wow some of these reviews are long. So I will make mine short. My family has purchased several Canon digital Elphs (S200, S230, S400, SD700 IS), with the SD870IS being the most recent. We've been very happy so far, and the SD870IS fails to disappoint. It's a fantastic point and shoot, the delay isn't as long as our previous Canon's, the Image Stabilization helps our parents take better pictures. The larger screen is also a plus.

Make sure that you do get a high speed card for the camera though, it makes a difference.


amazing little camera
I have continued to lack the photos because I have not had me my camera of DSLR with and have bought this after a little search. They have been interested seriously approximately the lack of viewfinder but once that really you began to talk nonsense I have realized that it was useless with the luminous and large LCD. This camera is characteristic rich and particularly easy to use. The screen of the LCD is exceptional. With this camera you can indicate and talk nonsense hardly in order to obtain the good images; you can also read the handbook and learn to use the many characteristics. 5 stars. Moreover I would suggest the A570IS if only wished to use full automatic rifle. Half of prices and one camera much good one. That one bought for my photographic not-machine has oriented the husband and is much happy one with it.

Beauty of a camera
They are excited with this small beauty of one camera. It is characteristic is plentiful. I will not never learn them all. The format is perfect for the race. It has rendered my greater obsolete SONY from the relative pure format. And I really appreciate the greatest screen of the LCD.


Better than anticipated
Ok, let me start out by saying that I did not plan on getting a new digi-cam this year.
My last camera a Sony DSC-T50, was lost. We looked for weeks, and after we failed to find it, I did some research and purchased the SD870 IS. Murphy's Law in full effect, the day after we got the Canon, we found the Sony. Now to return the Canon, I would have took a hit on a restocking fee. So we did some tests.
We always thought the T50 took great shots, and was fast and easy to use. Well...we were blown away with just how much better the SD870 IS works. Pictures came out more detailed, with more accurate color.
One top-notch feature that I feel is far understated is the red-eye correction. The camera uses the face recognition to see faces, and remove the red when you shoot. Should it miss, you can post-process the image in the camera and remove it after. It works very well, and the camera doesn't do the annoying 4-5 flash trick. (I always hate that)
Ok, enough yapping, here's the real meat:

The Image stabilization works very well (I tend to move alot)

Cons:
No Optical Viewfinder (ABSOLUTELY no loss to me, the lest 3 digi-cams I owned had no optical viewfinder)

Overall:
I couldn't be happier. We sold the Sony, kept the Canon. We took a loss on the Sony, becuase it was only a year old, but gained far more. BUT...the main point of a camera is the pictures it takes, and this one is top notch.


Very Pleased with Camera
I bought this in December 2007 and have used it for 2 months now. Am really happy with the purchase.
PROS:
Excellent picture quality, the screen is great, its pretty easy to use (especially if you have used Canon cameras before...which I have), plenty of high ISO choices, the red eye removal function that eliminates red eye from existing pictures is excellent - my first stab at it made me think it was better than Iphoto and Shutterfly's photo editor. Camera starts up very quickly. Wide angle lens means you can take pictures with more content in the frame which is excellent when taking pictures of kids. When you need it you can take good quality video which, even when expanded on my 24 inch Mac, looks perfectly acceptable.

Cons:
By default placing your finger over a button shows a graphic of that button on the screen which gets in the way of the picture you are taking. I found it unnecessary and annoying but it was easy enough to switch off.
Biggest problem I have had is with the software that came with it. The downloading software works without a problem but the image browser (which is like a picture explorer/finder) doesn't work with my Mac; the first time I load it up on the computer it works fine but after that it crashes on start up. When I did use it, I liked it but now its just an annoyance as after downloading I have to deal with a dialog box which informs me the program has crashed. I also run Skype and think it may be a conflict with the built in isight. Still...fact is that, for whatever reason, it doesn't work.

I have seen good reviews for the Sony but I wasn't impressed by the smeary screen and the clumsy touch screen. The wide angle lens makes it a better buy than the Canon 850IS. I have been very happy with this camera and can thoroughly recommend it.

Typically excellent Canon Digital Elph, easy to learn and use
I have been a big fan of Canon's Digital elph Powershot cameras. I've had the S400, S500, SD500, SD550, SD800IS and now the SD870IS. Most of my family have also bought these cameras. What I like is that once you have learned to use one, it's very easy to move up to another one of their cameras and the learning curve is short and sweet. I have never had much of a complaint about these cameras. I thought about not having the viewfinder but then realized I almost never used it on my previous cameras, so it's no big loss. They say this camera is heavier than previous models but they all weigh about the same. It is slightly larger though because it just barely fits in my Coach case made for these Canon's. I also notice that this model has more black plastic than others, especially on that battery/SD slot door. Fortunately they have never broken on me. Build quality, picture quality is as good as any of their previous models. My wife and kids along with myself really love these cameras so I doubt I'll switch to anything else anytime soon. In fact I only research the Canon cameras when I plan to buy another one. I don't bother with any of the others. If you're looking for one of these Canon's, just pick the one in your budget range because they are all good. I can't think of one that you would not be happy with. They really packed a lot into these small cameras. I really like the color swap, color accent, the Vivid, Black and White and Sepia photos. The possibilities for creative photos in camera are endless, and easy. Get one and start having some fun. By the way, none of the 1/2 dozen or so Canon Elph's I've owned, or my spouses, kids, etc. have ever had a problem with their Canon, not one. I even dropped one on concrete once and I just picked it up and continued taking photos (BUT DON'T DO THAT, it's a sick feeling). Fortunately it only got a small scratch on the side of the camera and it didn't land on the open lens. I noticed too that prices have dropped for these cameras, they are much more affordable now. Just make sure you buy from a responsible, reputable dealer that you trust. It's sometimes better to pay a little extra just to protect yourself from some online dealers that sell cameras not intended for US sales, thus you probably don't get a legitimate warranty. [...]


Perfect Camera

Fantastic Camera - Best Canon pocket camera yet

I have owned three Canon pocket cameras, every version just keeps getting better and better. This the best one yet. The color, precision, speed is fantastic. What can I say? It simply takes great pictures with out the fuss and bother of a bulky SLR. Great pictures in low light and the Image Stabilization really works well. I was interested in the wide angle lens to see if it made and difference and it is really nice.

Get one and enjoy it.



Canon PowerShot SD870IS
That is mine third camera of the Canon. I was a lot pleased with my previous camera digita them of the Canon, a PowerShot 610 and have wished to modernize to one more small camera with more megapixels. The SD870IS has come to contact of that verification test while they give the same ones to me menu and common functions to blot some photographic of the Canon therefore were here close to no learning curve. It allows the image that takes for being simple how much pressing the key or choosing the preregulations on measure for variable of execution the different ones. I was much happy one with the quality of the image with the 610 and the 870 are still better. The only claim that I have is with the software of the Canon. In a nutshell, it smells. I have had a problem to install the previous version of ZoomBrowser that has demanded much email with the technical support of the Canon and much time that they install, uninstalling, publishing the numerous recording and others tweaks in order to convince it in order to work. Hour I have a new one with entire of the problems when I have tried to install the new version. Therefore my review is: Camera=great; Software=horrible.


Happy w/ Purchase
I really appreciate the camera. That is my first camera digita them and still I am learning like using it and all the flange and hiss... my thought begins them are that the only edition that I have is that has ago to delay from when you push the key until that the image really does not take. The camera of my parent or my camera of the sisters is not large ago to delay how much. From all the search I have made before deciding which camera to buy, I have noticed that a lot blots some to them photographic digita has them ago to delay when takes images. Once that I obtain used to it and I learn all the option, it can improve. I will say that the quality of the image is large.


Amazing quality and features for its size
Bought this camera after buying, trying, and returning the Olympus 770SW (it sucks btw, don't buy it), and have been very impressed. I love the manual controls on this camera, the actual usefulness of the preset scene modes, battery life, etc. I'd have to say the best feature by far is the detailed playback mode showing the brightness histogram and areas of oversaturation. It's tough to tell how your shot really turned out until you download to a large screen or print, and nothing's worse than finding out the blue sky in your picture recorded as a wash of white. With the detailed playback, I can see how the shot turned out, adjust the exposure compensation and white balance as necessary, reshoot, and viola! the perfect shot! I've confirmed on my laptop, TV, and from the printer. Sizing up the other issues most reviewers gripe or rave about:

LCD/lack of viewfinder--I always appreciated a viewfinder to get the best shots, but the crispness of the LCD in sunlight-or-less coupled with the above function eliminate the need for one.

Ease of use--very good. In auto mode does well, in manual mode does better. There are alot of tricks you can pull out of your hat in non-obvious ways, which makes it non-idiot-proof, but it's nice to have them there.

Barrel distortion--haven't noticed it and have been looking for it

Wide angle--its nice. eliminates the need to stich two pics together. don't think it's the right reason to buy the camera, but a bonus nonetheless

Macro shots--my biggest gripe (along with most p&s on the market). everything at the focal point is clear and crisp, everything else is unrecognizable. I don't know why this happens--my old 2MP Fuji p&s brick gets everything, including the focused macro shot. I'll miss that

Continuous shots--I wish it could do better than 1.3 fps, but in a pinch you can use the video mode and break down in to frames

Buttons--surprisingly easy to maneuver through for their size. Naturally balances in your hand so you don't risk covering the flash/lens with the other, trying to hold er steady

and for the Canon engineers, if they're looking--This camera could benefit from an LED for underwater and macro illumination and the ability to save images in RAW format

And my schpiele: You can't go wrong with this P&S. You can get more features and more zoom, but it will cost you in price and size. If you're a novice, this will give you good pictures. If you want to get into more advanced photog without grabbing a DSLR, this camera will give you training wheels along with some great pictures. If you're like me and need great shots at a moments notice, get it.


Satisifed but wished the red eye reduction worked better
I bought this camera after doing quite a bit of research. I am very impressed with the size of this camera, the face recognition technology and the image stabilization feature. I am a little disappointed with the red eye reduction in this camera. Even with the red eye reduction turned on most images I took on a recent trip had people with red eyes. Now you can fix the red eye using the red eye fixing feature as well which I like.

As far as picture quality goes, I am very satisifed with this camera. Battery life is great and the LCD is nice and big.


Exceeded My Expectations
Wow, wow!!! The Canon SD870iS camera far exceeded my expectations and fell in love with that camera. I have been awaiting to get the right camera for 2 years. Hats off to Canon for developing a great product and recommend it highly.

Great Camera for all ages
I did my research beofre I bought this camera. I am very happy with my decision. The pictures came out great in many lighting conditions. Even my four year old was able to take some pictures. The settings are very intuitive and easy to use. I don't miss the view finder. I love the big display screen.


cute but difficult and defective
This is a very cute little camera with many assets. But, there are buttons that get pushed because they are located too close to each other. It is difficult to "undo" what that accidental hit on the button did to the camera. The screen "burned" twice when I took photos of bright lights. These images are in the screen permanently and I will have to return the camera to Canon and hope they also consider it a defect. The screen itself it not scratched on the outside so this is a definite defect.
The zoom is excellent. The screen is excellent (without the burned sections), the buttons are counterintuitive. The direction book is not great. It is difficult to try to figure out just what to do with all of the buttons after the initial setting. The button that slides on the top of the camera slides far too easily and frequently gets si\et in movie mode when one does not expect or want it.

Note that I am a new digital user but I believe this kind of camera should be easier to use for the new entrant to the digital world.

Overpriced
I had originally bought the SD750 but gave it away and bought the SD870 for myself. Great camera but not sure that it's worth the extra $100 over the SD750. It is wider and heavier than the SD750. Still pretty happy with it.


Canon does it again! Great video, image stabilization and a WIDE ANGLE LENS!

I will not say that it is good as video camera of DV, but will say that I would not trade the video every day obtains of my son with my PowerShot for all the camera digita them of $2.000 to declare-of-the-art video that, because of the relative format, would have only around in order to block the birthdays and Born them. I Love This Camera!
I have been a camera bug for many many many many years. I have had many cameras mostly single lens reflex and mostly big. I wanted a little camera that I could carry around with me in my pocket all the time. The Canon is perfect. I still use my single lens reflex camera for special occasions and great photographs. But my little Canon goes with me everywhere as a result I capture many more images of my life.


perfect little camera
I updated to this camera from an older Digital Elph SD110, and this camera fixed a lot of the little things that were annoying with that camera. The buttons were moved around to make them easier to use, and the screen has icons that pop up to easily let you change options without worrying if you are pushing the right buttons. Also, the face recognition and focusing software works great. I always like the Elph because it is rugged and compact so that I can carry it in my pocket. I find that it lasts better than other cameras, and especially having the rechargeable battery pack rather than AA's somehow makes it tougher. The battery will last for probably about 500 pictures, which is plenty for most purposes. I took my old Elph on a long camping trip, and it was the only camera that didn't malfunction at least once (of about 15 cameras total) even though it took a lot of wear and tear.
One downside of this camera are that it doesn't photograph well in low light. On my old one, the cover for the compartment on the bottom for the memory card and battery loosened so that it was hard to keep it closed (which needs to be closed in order for the camera to function), and I notice that this camera has the same cover, but that is something that will only get worse as the camera gets older. Also, definitely buy


Great little camera
I've had this camera for about a month now. Everything works great. It replaces my powershot S80 which I gave to my son. The reason I went with the 870 is the wide angle lens which the S80 also had. I wish the lens was longer for telephoto shots. In comparison to the S80, the 870 indoor shots have better exposure, probably due to the higher ISO speeds. I like the weight and size of the S80 better than the 870 but that's personal preference. The 870 is so small, (not much to hold on to) that I'm afraid of dropping it. I would give it five stars (which is perfect) if it had more telephoto capability. Otherwise, I think it's the best compact available for image quality and features.

Real nice little thing
The CANON SD870IS is a real cool camera. It has all I hoped for in such a smal package. Of course a larger zoom would improve dramatically this camera but for its size its probably one of the best. The best surprise is the video quality which was one of my main goals when deciding to retire my old digital camera. It has a real good quality, better than any I have seen in the past in digital point & click cameras, including a nice zoom while recording (up to 3.8 optical, then kicks in the digital). Overall Im really satisified with the camera so far (I have it for a month now).


great camera, not bad at movies,
I really appreciate this camera, the SD870. I have obtained 4 the memory of the code category 6 of the gig and the films are many bonds, sound are really perfect pure. I have not had idea as the films would work the pics calm are perfect. I have the A650IS for job and smallest, SD870 more clearly can make nearly all that that largest one can make. A great advantage for industrial job is the A650 swing-out, screen of spin of the LCD, but that one is not important for use of home/family. The speed of both blots some to them photographic between the images is great and instantaneous recovery, all. PROBLEMS: They are a freak of control, so as to when I insert the camera the orifice of the USB, I preview every functionality of the explorer; the container you cannot as an example move the pics from your PC towards the camera, so as to it obtains a reader of flashcard of shunting line standard and you pull the memory when wished to obtain yours pics and film. SD 870 is SWEET
This camera is very nice, I recently decided to buy a new camera and was deciding between the 12 MP Kodak, a Sony Cybershot with the touch screen, however I decided on the Canaon SD 870 for several reasons. For one it has a lot of great features.
1. Great Megapixels (You can blow up the image really big without losing any clarity)
2. Great Video: 30 FPS at good resolution that shows up very crisp on my computer screen and TV. It is very easy to put the video in slow motion, which I use to look at my golf swing, which it captures very well. Also you can do a movie mode which takes a picture once every 1 or 2 seconds which is good for clouds passing over and other good stuff.
3. Color Accent Mode, it is very neat to select a color of something and have that be the only color that shows up in the picture.
4. Wide Angle Lens, Definately makes a difference.
5. Great Screen, this does not take too much battery life, I recorded a lot of video and took probably close to 300 photos on one charge, but being one person who charges something when its only about half full, I consider I probably could have stretched the life out further.
6. Ease of Use: Right out of the box it was easy to figure out how to do certain things with the camera, I used to have a Sony before this and it is about the same to operate it. I did have to look in the book for a couple minutes to figure out how to do color accent and some other speacial camera modes, but it is all still very simple.
7. It comes with AV cables, and its easy to transfer pictures to the computer and view them.

Overall I am very happy I bought this camera on Amazon, I saved almost $60.00 over other retailers and I have no regrets about my purchase.


Great Camera
It was a toss up between this and the Sony T70. After trying out both for about a week, the Canon definitely wins. It takes great photos, has lots of setting (both practical and fun), the 28mm wide angle is a nice plus, big screen, etc. I could go on and on.


Nice compact camera
I have had experience with the Canon SD700 and SD1000, this camera is just as good or better. The screen is easy to view for shots and I don't miss the little viewfinder, not that I ever used it due to the large size of the LCD screen. The colors are extremely vivid on the LCD but the actual pictures lack the same intensity. The pictures are excellent though, just don't expect the LCD to give you a good "color" indication on what the photos will look like, your PC will give a better example. All features seem readily accessible ( I say "seem" because the options are similar to the other two cameras I mentioned and I don't really have any other experience with different manufacturers' models) and the images are quick to adjust. I especially appreciate the readily accessible custom white balance feature when the Auto White Balance options just don't seem to cut it. The 4x6" prints that the SD870 produces in Fine mode are of good quality and I can't wait to try a larger print. The speed of picture taking does seem alittle slow but otherwise this was an excellent purchase. I needed a small unit that was quick to use and convenient to stow, this definitely makes the grade.

Canon Camera Review
EXCELLENT CAMERA OF THE DIGITAL! We had used years of the Canon Digital a different Elph of the braces several a and and we loved them. But there are movements via from they and have gone to a Casio Exilim and then a more recently shot SONY Cyber-Ha. The 950 were more on rated, but I have not had not wished need or higher pixel. And hardly while we remember ourselves of, this camera makes more all that it is supposed to make and. Just job of the Canon simply. They cannot have altretante characteristic "of trick" as others blot some photographic, but after that all the digitalis them that gone through I have I dictate that they are the better bet for point and they shoot to the semplicità and the quality. It is really hard to take a defective image with this thing. And the new screen of the test of the digital print them and the scratch is really one characteristic large also. Relative one small thing, but I it has used to spend $10-15 on a everytime that of the protection of the screen I have bought one camera. It is not necessary with this camera. And I buy always the additional batteries for my digitalis them also. We are using this thing for the weeks of the brace and have still to load it in on. THEREFORE it has duration of narcotic battery apparently. Therefore hour I have 2 additional batteries on the console that I collect the powder hardly. Useless in order to say, I would suggest this camera to all.


SD870 Review
Recently bought the camera and took on a trip to carribean. It took very nice beach, evening and indoor photos. Great image quality and numerous setting to tinker with photos based on location/mode. Also used to record short videos and very happy with result. Overall very happy with the product. Bought a 2nd one for Dad's b-day gift.


A good purchase, but some inconveniences
The pictures are great for a little camera, which was a replacement to my aging but very good S400. I bought this camera primarily for two reasons: portability and the canon name. For taking pictures, I have no complaints whatsoever. A great little point and shoot. My issues all lie with video capture: don't get me wrong. For a camera whose primary mission in life is to take snapshots and be small, the video quality is fantastic. The file size, however, is tremendously big at 640 resolution. Don't ever think about emailing them.


Great Camera
This camera is impressive! The possibility to grandangolare is large, particularly when it takes an image of the group. The time of recovery between the instantaneous blows is excellent (a lot much short). That is my according to Canon Powershot and I love it! Highly I would suggest this camera.


A great camera with some annoyances
Although this is a great camera there are two minor annoyances I would like to highlight.

ANNOYANCE 1: It has a USB connection but it works in a non-standard way. It *only* works on Windows or Mac with the supplied software (and there is at least one Linux solution available -- gphoto2). This poses a problem when plugging it into the USB port on a TV that can read and display images and sound from a USB device -- they know nothing about the proprietary interface presented by the camera and therefore cannot display the contents. It is an example of the trouble that can be caused by not abiding by formally recognized standards. (I would expect this from Sony, but not Canon!) But the simple work-around is to remove the card from the camera and, using a USB SD-reader, plug it directly into the TV. See RECOMMENDATION 1, below.

My previous camera had a setting that allowed it to work in "mass storage" mode (I think that's what it was called). This allowed me to plug it into any USB port and read the card as if the cameras wasn't even involved. I couldn't find such a setting on this camera. Maybe I just haven't figured that out yet. I hope someone can correct me. If so I'll edit this review.

ANNOYANCE 2: You can only date/timestamp your photos in one of the shooting modes (postcard). Why Canon would impose this limitation is mystifying.

I also have a few recommendations:

RECOMMENDATION 1: You will need to get an SD (or SDHC) card for your camera as the one supplied with the camera has much too low a capacity to be of practical use. The manual even states that not all camera features will work with the supplied card.

I found the following and just received it from Amazon:

SanDisk 4 GB Extreme III SDHC Card with MicroMate USB 2.0 Reader (SDSDRX3-4096-A21, Retail Package)

It is quite nice and includes a small USB device that works perfectly as I described in the paragraph above. In the picture at the link, notice that the USB device is not much larger than the SDHC card itself, making it easy to toss into any camera bag that has room for a spare SD card.

RECOMMENDATION 2: I wanted something to protect the camera as I carry it around, but I didn't want to negate the "ultra-compact" advantage of true portability. I found the following which is just the right size and the camera still fits in a shirt pocket when in the case.

Case Logic UNZ-2 Black Case.

Be sure to get a UNZ-2. Amazon has mostly UNZ-3, which is too big. The link's product dimensions make no sense, but I have a UNZ-2 and it is the right size. There are other colors available.

RECOMMENDATION 3: I also wanted a case that could be used for travel -- something that could carry the camera, its charger, spare battery, spare SD card, etc. I found the following which is large enough for all that. It can hold the camera even when it is in the case above. And it is still small enough to throw in a glove compartment. It wouldn't take up much room in carry-on luggage either.

After the lottery of the reading of the reviews and for analyzing and against and others spec. a lot carefully of correspondence it appreciate 850 shunting line series etc standard, of A720is. I have thought hardly to go for the most delayed benchè you knew that $50 - $100 have cost me more for that you had still to calculate outside. But up to now, they are happy with the choice. They are fierce to transport the camera and with relati to you look and 3"lucidi LCD, I have obtained that what I have wished. I have used to hate the series of To while I have had to transport the batteries of the rimontaggio all the time. With this I have still to load it and I have already used little one hundred photos. Relative the enough small one in order to transport within the pocket and does not damage as the series of To Has the covering of quality and objective mettalic etc etc good etc and of the body. I have still to notice the requirement of the sight seeker that all uses. Not it use. If you are a medium customer of the camera and as soon as wished to obtain the made things the good within like easy possible sense, as soon as it closes your eyes and blind it pays and it obtains this camera and it is happy as me.


Well worth the price
The camera is all it is advertized to be. I was thoroughly pleased with everything about it. I purchased it for $291, and three weeks after Christmas it was down to $249. So do your research to find the best price. The dealer on Amazon from whom I purchased the camera delivered well ahead of the promised time. I would definitely use Amazon and this buyer again.


Picture Perfect !
I bought this camera as a pre-birthday gift for myself to replace my Canon SD 550 camera and I love it ! The LCD screen in the back is phenomenal which make my picture taking a breeze. I love the 18 different screen shot options they have and the images I took with my camera are sharp and right on !

Truly an excellent little camera
I purchased this Elph after losing an older generation Elph, and I am even more satisfied than I was with the other one. I find Canon controls to be very intuitive...I have yet to open the Operator's Manual over all the years I have owned Canon cameras. With a little curiosity and intuition, it is very easy to navigate through all of the features with relative ease. Also, you should know that I am far from being a gadget-hound; I'm just not the type of person to sit there and figure out how to make fancy electronics work. So, it says a lot that I can work this camera with its many features so easily and quickly.

I can definitely appreciate all of the new improvements in this model over my older Elph: image stabilization definitely makes a difference, more settings (e.g. beach, aquarium, night shot, etc.), beautiful large screen, and the zoom is great for a camera this size.

I have captured some awesome pictures with this camera, and it is safe to say that I will be a Canon customer for some time.


Happy but disappointed with new battery
I've had four Canon digital cameras since 2002. In general I love them. I dropped our last one in water, which was the end of it. I stuck with Canon because I like their cameras but I also have several back up batteries that I wanted to reuse with our new Camera. When I got my new SD870 IS I was really bumbed that they changed the battery AGAIN. That's my only hang up. Otherwise it shoots great pictures and videos.


Great Camera!
My wife and I love this camera! I bought it to replace an aging Canon SD450, we were getting tired of the shutter delay that is common with digital cameras (non-SLR). This camera still has a shutter delay, but it is quicker than an other camera we have owned. It also has a great set of features like image stabilization for photos and movies, different shot modes and the LCD screen is huge! It is a little wider than our old camera, but for the features it is well worth it! I would recommend a LCD screen protecter, an extra battery, and if you like snapping lots of pics have two 2 gig memory cards on hand. Overall, this camera is a great upgrade for any older cameras you may have, and it is full of features that help you take better pics!


Great little camera!
I love this little Canon. The quality of the pictures is great. The screen size is great. Everything about it, it starts up very fast ready to take a picture in less than 2 seconds from the time you press the on button. The flash is plenty bright for such a little camera. The battery life if very good, still have not had to re-charge from its initial charge of many days ago. Love this little Canon.


Buy It!!
I have bought first Powershot 870 like Christmas present them and that second for me because I have appreciate it therefore a lot. The clarity and the excellent brightness of the screen, the only disadvantage up to now is the lack of viewfinder, than it helps it in the focalization within on the more distant objects (flown of the geese, etc). But that one is a secondary disadvantage. Upload of the easy photo and the high resolution of the megapixel it is... impressive great clarity of the blowup. Light disadvantage -- it does not come with a case and it is not "renders." But a great value for the moneies. I would buy an attended other...... Already.


Canon PowerShot SD870IS is Fantastic!
Small but mighty. Large 3" screen makes composing shots and viewing takes simple and precise. The anti shake feature helps reduce blurred images. The 8mp capacity provides a wide range of printable image options. On the down side - the camera has so many features, it's hard to keep track of them all without carrying the booklet with you.


Fabulous for photographing children
I had a camera last year that just didn't cut the mustard because the shutter lag was sooo slow that I missed the shot every time.

Not with the PowerShot SD870IS. Although, it is hard to find shutter lag speeds, this one is FAST. Even being an 8MP, it is ready for the next shot very quickly.

Also the wide angle is great for the normal point and shoot shots you take of kids. The face detection focuses on the face so the shots are focused where you need them to be on a quickly moving child.

I just love it so and do think that I will always look at Canon for cameras now.


Nothing is Perfect!
Really, nothing is perfect! But all things considered, (PRICE!!!!! size!!!!!!) The Canon SD870IS is a pretty nice camera. I bought this camera as a Christmas present for my partner. She is in the real estate business and often has to take photos of houses outside and in. The 28mm lens equivalent was the first big draw. I looked at reviews for a handful of small point and shoot cameras with this size lens (equivalent). I narrowed down the search to this Canon and started reading all the reviews, (not just on this site) and what I was gleaning was that the camera was either GREAT!! or not so great because of noise at high ISO or speed of shooting.

Remember this is a camera the size of a small pack of cigarettes for less that $300, read that again please......

OF COURSE it is not going to be perfect, OF COURSE it will have some or a lot of noise at high ISO's, OF COURSE it is not going to have super fast shooting.......These things can be had on small point and shoots but you need to pay 5-10 times what this camera costs. It is a very inexpensive camera, period.... What more could you possibly want from a camera this size at this price??? I remember the first digital cameras which cost close to $1000 and were so big they stored photos on old style floppy discs!!!!!

Bottom line for me is you get what you pay for and what you are willing to sacrifice. This is a camera with a very versatile form factor (what pocket won't it fit in??) and a very attractive price which can take great photos.

This camera is a great segway for people looking to get more experience in photography, without taking the plunge just yet into SLR's. I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a digital camera that does more than just "meet their needs"!


Best Point and Shoot I've Owned
It has had need of small camera for mine honeymoon, has made a sure search and this has come in on like solid through some places. They are enough happy with it. The grandangolari systems like facts publicity to, duration of battery is enough good to obtain it with a day of intense execution without a problem and the film way was a surprise ndemnity: I have used a lot more than the thought.


Spectaculr Camera at a Great Price!
My moglie and I were in the market for one new camera after untimely the dead women of our camera of the SONY. I have read altretante reviews on point and on the shooting poichè I could and decided of this unit from Canon. I must confess that they are an enormous fan of the Canon from the days of the film of 35mm and still possessing my A1 however that never at all more long does not see the use. This camera more than how much has been exceeded our expectations. It is wonder in all states of lighting system - the light fioca was a great problem for our SONY. Not this camera! Also to the light more fioca, it blocks the true tone of the skin. . SPEED DISTORTION! Hour we have used the camera for approximately 30 days and has carried out over expectation to every turn. You cannot buy one simply better camera for the price. Highly, Highly Suggested!


Love the wide angle!
We purchased this camera before our recent trip to Disney World. It took incredible pictures. . . forget about buying postcards! Although it added to the price of the camera, the wide angle was a great feature. The flash, which I have found to be a disappointment on other digital cameras, was excellent . . . resulting in great photos indoors or out.


Excellent camera with all the bells and whistles!
This camera is is enough simple that adequately complex at the same time. I can use it easy as a large one point-and-I shoot and I love the pics but moreover I learn new qualche.cosa of every week that can make. The sky seems to be the limit with this camera.


Canon PowerShot SD870IS
This is a very good camera and I like the various features. I have been using it mostly in the "auto" mode. It is user friendly. The pictures are sharp and the colors are true. The focus assist lamp works well in dim light. The face recognition feature is great for group pictures. The shutter lag is tolerable for it is much improved over my old Canon PowerShot A80. The video clips taken with this camera are outstanding. So far I don't miss the optical view finder which is not featured on this camera. More evaluation is needed to assure myself that pictures are grainier when taken above ISO 200 without flash.

Nice, pocket-sized camera
All he is large. Equally against... no place in order to put your inch of right when it takes to a photo and it them photo it is under the average when zuma to the inside. Otherwise, it is large, easy to use and we love the large screen of sight.


Do not the design of the on/off button
Keep accidentally pressing the on/off button while camera is in the case. I have used the older model of the same series and it was fine.


Great Camera until the Dreaded "Lens Error"
We bought this camera December 18th, it stopped working January 12th. I had an 8 year old Toshiba digital camera that showed up for work everytime I turned it on. We decided to upgrade to have a more compact and higher MP camera.

The Canon takes great pictures. I was so pleased with how easy the menu was to navigate. I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because it is a great camera that takes great pictures. If yours is one that does not have an error, you will be pleased, but I would be nervous wondering when it was going to quit working. The close up picture taking was very good. I took many shots around the Christmas holiday and was pleased with the quality of all of them. I had researched a lot before buying the camera and had read about the E18 error or lens error. I knew this up front but we take very good care of our things and felt that it would not be a problem.

Less than a month after buying the camera it stopped working when my husband went on a trip. The camera was not dropped or anything. At first he managed to get the lens to retract but it had an error again. I am sending it back because for $300.00 I expect it to work everytime I need it to. I am so surprised that a company like Canon that makes cameras with such great picture taking quality has dropped the ball on this major defect in what seems to be all their products.

Just google Canon E18 or Canon lens error and you will see what I mean.

Buy this camera if you want to gamble that yours will not be a dud. Just hope that it does not decide to quit working at the wedding, graduation, ect. or any other once in a lifetime event.


Best camera I have ever owned.
Bar none this is the best camera I have ever owned. Small, easy to use, yet takes fantastic pictures. Lots of different functionality for the more advanced users, ease of use for the novice. Easy to carry on vacation to the beach or to the kids talent show. Quality of the video files it takes looks better than that of some video cameras I have owned. I highly recommend it.


Excellent camera
Excellent camera. I love the point and shoot, and easy to fit in the pocket type cameras. I had the SD500 since it first came out about 2.5 yrs ago. Loved it, but the SD870IS is definitely a step forward. I love the Image stabilization. Even my wife can shoot good pictures. Very easy to learn and use.

Possedergli a Rebel XT of the Canon Digital and some objects to you for and I am much happy with the quality of image. However, he is large and heavy, so as to I have bought this camera for those situations when to pull around to a DSLR it is not the more convenient solution. My moglie transports the SD870IS in its ag all the time and often takes the images instead of annotation of notes. While easy tweak the manual regulations how much on a DSLR, the ergonomics of the commandos and the menu is much bond; they are much similar to the oldest models of the Canon. Nimble, tiny, capable point-and-shoot
They are a customer of DSLR (Pentax K100D is my main camera) that it has wished a camera that much small I could always transport around with me, does not import where I go. Best Camera I Have Ever Had By Far!
This an amazing camera. I have had, olympus, older canons, sony and this camera blows them all away. The picture quality is spectacular. It makes images seem even more beautiful than real life. The video is great for a little camera. The best part is it is very quick to take one shot after another for those times where you seem to always miss your kid smile. This way you just keep shooting. I'm a novice when it comes to photography, but I was really impressed with this camera/video recorder when I saw the quality of pictures and video it produced. And just because it's small doesn't mean you can't add to it. I actually made a diffuser out of bubble wrap to fit over the lens, and it's amazing how much more warm and full the pictures are (for up close portraits that is). This camera is compact, yet powerful.


The SD870 IS is one of the best of Canons cameras
By far, this is one of blots some photographic better than canons. my wife is a professional photographer and we needed a little camera to have around and to keep in her purse. we've really enjoyed the Canon SD870IS. the screen is huge and the colors are really good. it helps to have some camera knowledge about ISO and Exposure because you can change some of the setting to get better pictures. we really love it!

I have spold the the 870 time a lot that I search it blots some to them photographic and it has found that the more well measure my needs. Within a month after the purchase, one small black line horizontial has appeared in means of the LCD. Hour after approximately a month, the line has extended completely through the screen and the thickness of the line is increased. The camera still takes the good images, but extremely it is frustrating every time that I take an image. I would still not buy.

I have seen some reviews decrying the lack of a viewfinder and manual exposure controls. That's like saying a Toyota Prius lacks the power of a Corvette and the room of a Ford Expedition!

No viewfinder-who cares, who uses one any longer, especially with the gorgeous 3 inch LCD. As far as manual exposure controls, I guarantee you virtually NO ONE who purchases a camera like this cares one whit about that. 99% of the time, AUTO works fine. There are times, such as night or low-light shooting that you may want to use one of the special modes, but otherwise, who wants to fiddle with those? If you did, you wouldn't buy a point and shoot cam.

Remember, every camera is a compromise between cost, size, performance and complexity. Canon has hit the target of a POS that takes great pics in a compact, easy to use camera!


Canon SD870IS review
That is one camera much pleasant one. The images taken in the light of the day seem excellent. The camera has seemed large and has thought that the quality of the images was alright. LOVE the sd870!!
I love this camera. I originally bought the sd850, and while it's pretty good, I wasn't happy with it. The 870 has everything the 850 was missing--a low battery icon, even easier use, slightly better photos, a wide angle lens, and it's sturdier. The little flap you lift to connect the USB cable seems much sturdier.

Crisp and Clear pictures!
I've had 3 canon cameras now.
My SD450 which my girlfriend has takes great pictures as well, but it's night and day when you get your hands on this beauty.
First off, that 3 in. LCD screen is just incredible. You can see everything in great detail with it's screen size.
And the pictures are sweet as well.
You have like 12 different preset scene modes for night, beach, foliage, pets & kids, etc. etc... you can't blow the picture for the life of you.
I'm still learning everything, but it's easy to navigate with the scroll wheel, like on an mp3 player....

Disappointing.
I received my camera a week ago and today it just died on me. The screen turns on shows the Canon screen then fades out. It no longer lets me take pictures or anything! I am very disappointed. I contacted Canon and am awaiting a response. I hope this is covered under warranty or something. =[

Need help with settings
I just bought my first Canon camera, PowerShot SD 870IS. It is very complex to use. I have problems with indoor pictures. The background either comes out too dark (so does people in the background) or subjects come out too bright. In addition, I have hard time getting the pictures of moving objects (especially kids) indoor and outdoor. I just want simple pictures how your naked eyes see the objects. Canon camera is ruining the pictures by trying to accomodate for every different settings. My 4 year old sony camera takes better pictures and I was able to capture every moments just like it is by simple point and shoot. I am soooo frustrated with Canon since I missed so many special moments. Many times, (espeically with kids) the special moments are just nano seconds long so I don't have the time to fiddle with settings, fuctions, and menus. So far with Canon, pictures came out too grainy, shadows, too dark, too bright and colors come out weird!!! So, I need help, does anyone know ONE setting that works for every occasion and pictures come out just how you see it. I spent many hours to figure out but so far no good results I would appreicate inputs.

Excellent camera, I did a lot of research and found this to be the best camera for the money. Takes great pictures and very good quality video. I was wanting a camera to take good video as well as great pictures. I am very pleased with this camera. When I got the camera it had a line of dead pixels on the viewing screen. I told Amazon about it and had a new camera in about 4 to 5 days. They paid for all the shipping also. I am very pleased with the service I recieved.

I have this camera for about a month already and it is very good. Here is a break down of what I like and dislike.

Like: *Wide angle 28mm.
*Takes great pictures. Color and sharpness are very good.
*3" screen is beautiful.
*Power up very quickly. Less then a second.
*Quick focus. That means you don't miss any action shots.
*Greate battery life.
*Video in VGA 640x480 30fps mode close to DVD quality. (Eat up
a lot of memory though. Usually I use the 640x408 30fps LP mode,
which is good enough and uses half the storage space.
Dislike: -Some what weak flash power when picture is taken at night.
-Picture with black background sometimes shows circular dots,
like the lens is dirty. This was actually complaint by other
people with different Canon digital camera.
-Placement of the circular control. My thumb always
accidentally press it. Wish Canon could have designed the
control at the buttom right or make the button harder to press.
-When taking video, the zoom function does not work.

I have had the modernized 800IS and to this mainly for the megapixel added since to use this for the pics of the professional in Or Has a objective to grandangolare for one compact camera. The color is large. I have used the images from this camera in banns. Even if not there is comparison to many levels between this and mine 1D MarkII of the Canon, the final image is just as good if your technique is of right. the screen is LARGE on this unit. Little room for the commandos, however.

Received defective - no sound
The mine sound in the film way. Necessity to obtain a RMA. Moreover the images of defect automobile-Iso are too much granular. I have not tried the regulations of the not-automobile still.


Great Digital Camera
This Camera is wonderful. Easy to use for just point an shoot shots. The manual settings are easy to learn and use too! So far I have had no problem with it. Cannon is a very well known name in camers so I trust them to provide a good product. This Camera ROCKS! I just bought it a few weeks ago as a present to my self for christmas. I am really looking forward to taken lots of photos. It takes crisp clean photos when on auto or when using the manual settings. I love having a big LCD screen. My last digital had about a 1 inch screen. I uploaded a photo I took with the macro setting. Amazing how close it got and it so clear. I would recommend this camera for sure. It's a bit more money than some of the other camera's out there (179.00) but I am worth it haha

This camera is totally awesome. From the first day I received it. I just love it. Great shots up close and far away. What a great compact camera to take on a trip. We went to WDW and talk about some awesome pictures of the animals through the glass and no cages. Great camera!!!


Great camera but poor build quality.
First of all, Amazon is great. They've responded quickly to my concerns and have taken care of me well.

This is a great camera. It's a Canon. What's so great about the SD870 is that it has a wide angle lens. It's perfect for taking group photos and people. I wont bore you with the other details because I am sure you've already read about them.

So here are the cons of this camera.
1. I previously had a SD450 in my pocket all the time. This is its replacement. I never had issues with the camera accidentally turning itself on with the SD450. The power button on the SD870 is too sensitive or poorly placed because it has accidentally turned on a few times.

2. The build quality is very questionable. The first one Amazon sent had a cluster of dead pixels on the camera's sensor end. (The red dots showed up on the view finder and on the computer screen). Without hassle, Amazon sent me another one.

The other one worked fine until it developed an artifact. I keep the camera inside an Oakley sunglass bag in my pocket so it's well protected. So, I tried cleaning the lens and the artifact remained. The artifact I speak of is a consistent patch of darker color on the picture. My brother who also purchased this camera from Amazon is having the same problem.

I really hope these problems are because of bad batch because I really like this camera.

For background, I've owned a Canon A10 and SD450. I also own a Canon 20D and love photography.

I love this camera. It is easy to use. Mine only claim is it takes along to the fire too much and it really takes the image. It is large when I am not trying to take the images of my child!


Best Point and Shoot Camera Available
With all the digital cameras to choose from, it is difficult to know which one is best for you. To help narrow the choices, I had a few guidelines in mind:

1. Cost no more than $300
2. Must have excellent image quality.
3. Must have optical image stabilization.

There are many cameras available for that price point, so I checked the reviews of all the latest models. Any camera that had image problems mentioned in a review was removed from my list. I also wanted image stabilization to improve our chances of getting clear sharp pictures. You may have only one opportunity to take that shot, so IS is a must have in my opinion.

This search led me to the Canon SD800 camera series. I ended up choosing the SD870 because of the larger 3" LCD. I have little kids that love to see the pictures you just took, so I thought a bigger LCD would make viewing with 3 kids huddled around the camera easier.

After playing around with the SD870 for a while, I'm very impressed with it. The larger LCD was a big hit. Who needs a viewfinder when you have this nice LCD to look at? I had no problem using the LCD outside with the sun directly behind me. If you are worried about saving battery power, bring an extra battery.

The image quality is fantastic. Be sure to set the camera at ISO 80 and enable auto ISO shift. This will force the camera to use ISO 80 whenever it can and only increase the ISO only when necessary. At ISO 200 and above, noise in the image becomes more apparent.

Taking video with the image stabilization is a treat. The video is so smooth that is looks like you are using a camera boom. I only wish the camera allowed the lens to zoom in and out while recording video. You can zoom prior to starting your video, but I don't understand why you can't zoom while recording.

What really impressed me is this is the first camera that I owned that could take pictures in our kitchen without having the colors come out reddish. Even with a Canon XTi DSLR, I had to set a custom white balance to get the colors to come out right. The SD870 got it right automatically.

Overall, I am very happy with the camera. I think it is worth the extra money to get the larger LCD. Having the wide angle lens and a bunch of shooting modes is just icing on the cake.


Great camera but I prefer my old Powershot 10.
Felt it smart to opt for the 8 mp and not go any higher ... don't foresee having any of my pics made into posters! Disappointed that it did NOT include a camera case - and the generic leather case I did buy isn't as handy as the old 'copper' case on the Powershot 10 - which I REALLY liked but felt it time to upgrade! Like everything else, it has more 'bells and whistles' than I'll probably ever use ... or understand! I'll read the instruction book on the plane next trip out and perhaps I can avail myself of all the gimmicks each new generation makes available. If it services me as well as the old Canon I'll be delighted!


Wide angle lens is worth every penny!

Canon PowerShot SD870IS
Great point and shoot camera. I also considered the SD850IS but choose the 870 for the wider angle lens. The wide angle lens is great for family and friends pictures. Do not miss the viewfinder yet but I have not used the camera outside in the sun.


Flash options
There are 3 instantaneous options available: auto/inserita/disinserita, but is available on the way of manual feeding. For the way car, there are only 2 options: automobile and outside. You cannot force the camera in order to use the flash while in the way car. If this is a great transaction to you, therefore this does not buy this camera (is a great transaction to me and if the sorrow I have bought this camera without this characteristic). The defective anchor, the guide of the customer is not clear: To the page (page 71 of the guide of the customer) that it describes the instantaneous function, has indicated that these 3 instantaneous options are available for are the way of manual feeding that car. Great Camera, awesome screen

excellent value for the features
I highly recommend this canon power shot camera. Our older camera was a nikon coolpix and the shutter speed was impossibly slow which made it very frustrating to use. The canon's shutter speed is very fast, and the wide angle capability is wonderful for landscapes and indoor room shots. The included software is also very easy and intuitive to use. If you would enjoy the wide angle capability, get this model. If you don't need it you could probably buy the slightly less expensive canon power shot elph model - but the entire canon power shot elph series is a winner in my book.

I have modernized hardly to my ELF of shunting line standard 700IS Digital of the Canon with this shunting line standard 870IS. All that I could say it is this is absolute the camera of better P/S in it is code category. Moreover I have had others blots some photographic like the Nikon, SONY of P/S and Sanyo, this 870IS jumps them all absent, by far!!! nothing even comes close to the facility of quality of the image and operation. After a lot of reading... the perfect camera!
They are not an expert of the camera but I know some things approximately the technology behind it. I was trying "little expensive" a compact camera with more characteristics that that one I already has had (Canon Ixus 400). Canon has worked for me for the years a lot. Here they are the characteristics that I appreciate approximately new the 870: - to grandangolare: Beautiful images of ASTONISHMENT of the returns, widely and clearly. - mp 8: more than enough!! I have made The Manifest from images 8MP and seem gorgeous. - all the ways automati to us: when you are in a travel wished to make fast and free the images without to shape qualche.cosa. They have been astonished with all the ways that I can choose: ritratto, night, Aquarius, etc. Hour I can finally take the night photographies instantaneous. I can also shape it manually that I love to make when I have time, so as to you have all the possibilities in this small camera. - shunting line card standard: of the cards the best one second never, so as to fasts, between the image and the image are here less than 1. Little expensive cards also! - LCD and no viewfinder: I had not never used the viewfinder before anywat and the LCD is only perfect, I can take the photos in all the terms without needing a viewfinder. - good duration of battery. - no angles or aberrations blurry of color (some blot of it photographic grandangolari suffer from several the problems). Highly I suggest it. Amazon has transported it a lot fastly even if I do not have chosen day transport one or two. In some ways excellent, in others poor
I recently purchased the sd870is for a vacation, based largely on the moderately good reviews that it gets. During my two weeks with the camera, I found it in some ways to perform better than any other digital camera I have ever used, and in some ways to perform very poorly.

Let's start with the good. Any shots in very bright light turned out great using both the manual settings and the camera's automatic settings. If you take all outdoor shots, this is just about the greatest point and shoot camera in the world. Video also looks pretty dang good, and while not a feature I considered when buying the camera, it was something I used quite often. The controls were all easy enough to use, and while the buttons and settings aren't the best designed things in the world, after playing around with the camera for an hour or so it's not too hard to figure out the main features and how to use them (although some features remain a mystery that even the manual couldn't solve).

And on to the bad. While all my outdoor shots were excellent looking, especially for a lower priced digital camera, the camera was really not up to par on indoor shots. On its automatic settings, I found the camera to be rather 'stupid' in determining how to process the shot. Even in moderately bright rooms with plenty of indirect sunlight in the middle of the day, the camera loves to flash the immediate subject and darken the background. Photos in a well lit restaurant would come out with the subject looking pretty good and the background looking like we were in a medieval dungeon. And we were in Florida, so when I say a well lit restaurant, I mean pretty dang sunny.

The manual settings performed much better indoors - many of the shots taken at 400 and 800 ISO on the manual setting turned out great. The only problem with these is that you experience quite a bit of blurring when there's not 100% sunlight outside, so for every good indoor photo there were 2 or 3 bad. And of course, if it happens to be dark outside, you get a huge amount of blurring. If one were to look at my photo of the Disney World castle at 7 pm, the automatic setting photo came out as a almost completely black photo with just the windows in the castle barely visible (and that thing is pretty bright). On manual, I had the choice of a blurry mess at 800ISO, or a moderately less blurry mess at 1600 ISO that was so grainy it looked rather like an old newspaper photo. The other digital cameras in the group were quite capable of taking a photo of people with the castle in the background and exposing them correctly while capturing the glowing castle, but the 870 was not.

Of course, no inexpensive camera is going to function all that well in darkness, and I wouldn't expect it to. What I do expect from a camera this price is to be able to point and shoot a photo of friends in a well lit hotel lobby without blurring everything or coming out with completely darkened backgrounds. The 870 did not seem to be able to handle this at all, and photos in any lobby or lounge came out like we spent our vacation in the most dimly lit place on earth.

As a side note, someone in our party brought their Fuji s700 digital camera, and in my opinion it outperformed the 870 in almost every aspect. The best 20% of the 870's photos looked a bit better than the Fuji's, but the other 80% didn't look anywhere as good. So, despite loving the size and features and most things about this camera, upon arriving home it was packed up and returned. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for something that performs the way the 870 did. Who wants a camera that becomes useless every day at 6:30 pm?



Exceeded expectations, great value.
Large camera. I prefer to use the stabilizer of image and the high way of iso and no flash. I have been able to take some blows of the inside FANTASTIC that block humor of the very better atmosphere of the flash-heavy one, sterile-observing the images that all it blots to them of it photographic of the shooting and of the point they seem to take when in the way automatic rifle with the flash it has ignited. For: - the stabilization of image will change the kind of blows that you try with therefore small camera -- it is always like having a treppiedi to disposition. - the minimal delay of the stopper - good observing the images - much easier to use (regarding the models that recent of the predecessore I have played with) - duration of large battery also with stabilization of image over. Against: - the high way of iso is a po' to granulate - the camera would have to load once inserted the USB -- it not. - I wish that it has had a way of the instantaneous one of the filling material -- if I it cannot find it. - I wish that it has had CRUDE way -- they have come to appreciate the superiority of thanks of this way to the Digital Rebellious XTi -- speed distortion. Inferior line: Port this camera everywhere. also.


Great point and shoot camera
It is small, images better averages really fast returns and for a point and a shooting. It loves grandangolare in order to obtain all in the shooting. The great exposure of the LCD works fantastic so as to I at all do not lack the optical seeker sight. The films are unbelievable when it shoots the inner part with only the lamps of the table over. The camera thinks constructed well with towards outside being of the excessive or hard weight to handle.


Easily the best of the lot
I extensively researched, tested and compared the Sony T200/70, Canon SD800, and SD870. While the Sony T200/70s are sleeker, more stylish, and have touchscreen displays, they suffer from poor picture quality and LCD screens - grainy/noisy pics, and slightly pixelated LCD, especially the T200.

The SD800/870s take much superior pics with a high-quality LCD display. The wide-angle lens rocks big-time - almost 33% more detail in shots. The main difference between the SD800 and 870 is that the 870 has a 3 inch LCD (800 has a 2.5 inch LCD, with the optical viewfinder) and no optical viewfinder. The bigger screen is worth the extra bucks, in my opinion - but if you wanna save some $, then the 800 does everything else the 870 can.

The SD870 almost delivers on everything - great wide angle lens, great quality pics, LCD screen visible even in bright sunlight, easy to use and pocket.

On the downside, the body build is not very solid, due to use of plastic parts, it has no HD video mode (only VGA), and there is no zoom in video mode.

It still gets 5 stars, because it comes way ahead of its competition. Easily the best in its category.


Poor battery life, on of button too easy to activate.
I have had approximately 8 blots some photographic digita them different from $300 to $1.300 and are generally happy with Canon. It observes new every me ch' is a defective beat. The pixel more mega it means more memory that it will use not necessary the freer image. The image of better quality comes from the nozzle. Approximately 5 it blots some photographic of the mp that I have used have better quality of the image then this.


I have tested a lot of cameras and...
This one is the BEST! First off, it is a point-and-shoot camera, so no matter what company or model you buy there is going to be a trade off for the size of the camera. I have tested the Canon SD950, SD750 and the Sony T-200. The Sony was cosmetically the coolest looking camera, but the picture quality was nowhere near any of the Canons. The SD950 was bigger and bulkier than the other Canons and 12MP is overkill for a point-and-shoot. I narrowed it down between the SD750 and the SD870. The 750 is a little smaller and lighter than the 870, and the 870 has an extra mega pixel, image stabilization and a little more optical zoom. However, the wide angle lens on the 870 made it an easy choice in my opinion. The 870 will fit in you pocket and take excellent quality pics.

Got this camera for someone as a gift, it is a great product, love the lcd screen on the back. For its price, how can you go wrong.


On/off
I thought this was a great camera. I've had the powershot sd 600,630,750,850. The reason I liked this camera so much was large LCD screen other then that it's pretty much like the 850. The negative about this camera is the placement of the on and off switch. Everytime I'd open my camera case to take a pic the camera would already be on. Also a few pics would have white spots and at first I thought the lens was dirty but i read at the canon website that it occurs when theres a dirty/dusty spot. So I only had the camera 2 weeks but in those 2 weeks it made me miss the sd850, i just gotta live without the 3.0 LCD


All I can say about this thing is "WOW"!!!
Okay, this camera is just incredible. There's nothing I don't like about it. I know there have been a few complaints on the battery, but you can fill a 1GB card on one battery charge. The pictures are like you were actually there, but I will admit that at the higher ISO setting, it can get a little fuzzy, but not too bad. The image stabilizer feature sold me on this model. I was looking at the SD750, but it lacked that feature. I made the right choice. My best advise is for you to go to the closest Best Buy or the Apple Store and try it out for yourself. You will see the true power of this thing. Canon has done it again!

Also, compared to the Sony T200, it fell short, which surprised me because of the Carl Zeiss lens. It does have more zoom, but the picture quality was beyond comparison from the Canon (negatively). The image stabilizer was worthless on the T200 in a slight shaking scenario (which I created in Best Buy). Canon wins the battle with Sony...

All I can say about this thing is "WOW"!!!


Awesome camera for MOM's!
I must say that going from a greater Nikon 8700 to this holding in hand it is wonderful. In effects it still takes the images better that I could never hope for. Mine 2 years are constantly on the and, not to usually point out in the terrible situations of lighting system. This camera is narcotic and loves the quality of the image. Nice camera
Like many of the other camera in the line of ELPH, the 870 they have an pleasant tact and lle good images that exit it. I do not lack the viewfinder at all. Great pictures and easy to use
We have bought this camera for our travel in Japan after the search of blots some photographic similar and we have decided to go with this. We were not dissapointed. The camera was extremely easy to use and to take the images was much fast one. I have already had the greater part of the images that we have taken developed and have turned out large. Also my images that I have taken to the night with iso the 1600 have turned out large.
