Reviews:

starsCanon Powershot SD870 IS
With completion answered my hopes relative with quality, with acuity, and the facility of use of image. Very portable. The objective of buzz comes in handy once necessary. A must for these people on the outward journey and does not want the instruments cumbersome. Cannot turn badly.........

starsExactly what I expected!
Gun PowerShot 870IS - completely an intensification of my old man, old numerical camera. I am not a techie, had to read the handbook, the yada, the yada - but love of I DOOO it and all his possibilities! ! With have a little trouble to obtain my computer to speak to me with the camera - gun service of assistance called - fixes good stat high! !

starscamera review
Could not get a quality image out of this camera. Very hazy. Returned and received credit quickly with return postage paid!

starsGreat camera!
I bought this to capture my new baby's precious moments and I'm totally satisfied. Pictures are very clear and of great quality, and most importantly, shutter speed is fast so I get to capture those wonderful smiles and expressions. Blurs are minimal especially when I choose the kids/pets setting. The other preset settings are also very easy to use (portrait, night shots, indoor, etc.) so I get perfect pictures each time. I also love it that the LCD monitor/picture viewer is HUGE so I see the pictures very clearly. This is totally worth the price and I highly recommend it!

starsGreat little point and shoot
The SD870 IS is a great point and shoot camera. The wide lens really makes a difference in your pictures by helping to include more. The image stabilization is superb, even when you're zoomed to the max and a little wiggle would make things blurry. The camera itself is very nice looking, especially that 3 inch screen on the back. Buttons are a bit cramped so if you have large fingers, might want to check out a display model first. I love the battery, it holds a charge for a really long time, I have not been able to use the battery up, and I've taken lots of pictures. Oh and the video quality is really great, get yourself a gorillapod for it and you'll be making videos anywhere and everywhere for youtube.

starsCanon did it again
I bought this camera for my sister cuz she's been taking my camera & using it for the longest time. But b4 I handed over to her I've tested out to see the improvement. Everything looked great including the picture quality but only thing I had trouble with was the touch-sensitive scroll button. And since I'm not gonna use this camera, I don't really care. I just hope she doesn't break it & ask for mine again. That's a lil sis for ya. I blame my parents for bring my lil sister into this world to continue to antagonize me.( of course I was just joking ) Anyways, hope this helps.

starsVery Good Camera
I have no complains after having employed it for more than 1 month. The quality of image is very good. Compare with SD850IS, this one is better to look at too much:) particularly the black option. The small lid which covers the slit of usb seems fragile. I estimate that my 2 old years will break it easily if it puts the hand on the camera of camera.Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP DIGITAL with the buzz 3.8x stabilized by optical image wide-angle lens (black)

starsCanon SD870 IS Digital Camera
I am satisfy very with the purchase of this camera. Very easy to employ, large to obtain projectiles of action of the grandkids. Takes excellent photographs of landscape, chips, open space and true color. The battery is durable, bought the additional battery always to have entirely charged others of me. Took photographs of the interior of my house, then the photoshop used to change colors on walls, pieces of furniture, etc and the wala made my decision-making of redecorating with the facility. recomment this camera with each one.

starsCanon 870 Power shot Camera
Each one had been delirious about which large Gun of camera makes thus I decided to buy before my voyage in Thailand and China. It was all each one known as; easy to use, light weight, excellent devices like the capacity to take panoramas and films. I would recommend this camera to no matter whom. WFP B San Diego, Ca

starsGreat camera in any light!
I tested many marks of the cameras: Kodak, Fuji, camera of Sony... This beat all gives downwards. The life of battery is phenomenal, the images in light and the darkness come out very of light with little numerical noise, there are easy access to the orders, the work of detection of face and stabilization of image marvelously, easy handbooks to be worked and appear out... de.I' m motionless discovering all the devices. I would recommend definately to a beginner and to a bug tested of obturator!

starsExcellent pics, size, LCD...all you could ask for
I had employed Nikon Coolpix 2100 during years, antique by standards of today, however I always thought that it took large the PEAKS. It was until I saw what this camera can make. DEFECT OF THE SOUND REPRODUCTION! What a clearness! And liquid crystal display cuts it is impressive. I never really used my old viewer on my old camera and know it that I will not miss it on this one. It is a big size, and case of OEM which I bought, it equips large on my belt. Strongly recommended camera.

starsGreat Camera
Wow some of these reviews are long. So I will make mine short. My family has purchased several Canon digital Elphs (S200, S230, S400, SD700 IS), with the SD870IS being the most recent. We've been very happy so far, and the SD870IS fails to disappoint. It's a fantastic point and shoot, the delay isn't as long as our previous Canon's, the Image Stabilization helps our parents take better pictures. The larger screen is also a plus.

Make sure that you do get a high speed card for the camera though, it makes a difference.

starsamazing little camera
I kept missing photos because I didn't have my DSLR camera with me and bought this after a bit of research. I was seriously concerned about the lack of viewfinder but once I actually started shooting I realized it was unnecessary with the bright, large LCD. This camera is feature rich and exceptionally easy to use. The LCD screen is exceptional. With this camera you can just point and shoot to get good pictures; you can also read the manual and learn to use the many features. 5 stars. I would also recommend the A570IS if you only want to use full automatic. Half the price and a very good camera. Bought one for my non-camera oriented husband and he is very happy with it.

starsCanon PowerShot SD870 Camera Review
I bought this camera of PowerShot SD870 of Gun because the screen of liquid crystal display

starsBeauty of a camera
I am thrilled with this little beauty of a camera. It's features are copious. I'll never learn them all. The size is perfect for travel. It has made my larger Sony obsolete by its sheer size. And I really like the larger LCD screen.

starsBetter than anticipated
The ok, let me start outside by saying that I did not project on obtaining with a new digi-cam this year. My last camera Sony DSC-T50, was lost. We sought weeks, and after we did not find it, I made research and bought the SD870 EAST. The law of Murphy' S in the full effect, the day after we obtained the Gun, we found Sony. To return the Gun now, I would have took a blow on fees of restocking. Thus we carried out some tests. We always thought that T50 took large projectiles, and was fast and easy to employ. Well... we were puffed up parties with Juste how much the best SD870 COSTS work. The images came out of more detailed, with a more precise color. A device of top-notch which I direction far was minimized is the correction of red-eye. The camera employs the identification of face to see faces, and removes the red when you draw. If it misses, you can post-treat the image in the camera and remove it then. That functions very well, and the camera does not make awkward instantaneous turn 4-5. (I always hate that) the ok enough, yapping, here true meat: For: The quality of image astounds simply the wide-angle lens repairs considerably the screen of 3"les work of stabilization of image very well (I tend to move the alot) that the identification of face functions it against full with construction of CORRECTION of fast and easy RED-EYE: None in an optical general way of Sight (ABSOLUTELY no loss with me, for fear 3 digi-cams which I had had any reflector view finder): I could not be happier. We sold Sony, maintained the Gun. We took a loss on Sony, becuase that it was only one year old, but gained much more. But... the principal point of a camera is the photographs which it takes, and this one is higher notch.

starsVery Pleased with Camera
I bought this in December 2007 and employed it for 2 months now. Really happy AM with the purchase. FOR: The excellent quality of image, the screen is large, its pretty easy to employ (particularly if you used the cameras of Gun before... which I have), abundance of the high choices of OIN, the red function of displacement of eye which eliminates the red eye of the existing images is excellent - my first blow with him encouraged me to think it was a better writer than of Iphoto and photo Shutterfly. The camera starts to the top very quickly. Wide-angle means of objective you can take photographs with more contents in the reinforcement which is excellent by taking photographs of the kids. When you need it you can take it video of good quality which, even when examé my 24 impers of inch, looks at perfectly acceptable. Against: By defect the placement of your finger above a button shows a graph of this button on the screen what obtains in the manner of the photograph that you take. I found it useless and awkward but it was rather easy to commutate with far. The major problem that I had is with the software which came with him. Work of remote loading of software without problem but navigator of image (which is as an image explorer/finder) does not function with my imper; the first time that I upwards charge it on the computer that functions very well but then that which it breeze begin above upwards. When I employed it, I liked but maintaining his Juste to him a trouble as after downloading me must treat a zone of dialogue which informs me that the program broke. I also Skype course and thinks that it can be a conflict with bench in the isight.... the fact is always that, for some reason, it does not function. I saw good reviews for Sony but I was not impressed by the greasy screen and the awkward screen of contact. The wide-angle lens makes him a better purchase than Gun 850IS. I was very happy with this camera and can completely recommend it.

starsUnhappy with the amazon
I had bought many products in the Amazon, but I was always hesitant to buy something more than 100$ for some reason and my judgement were exact after a couple of the periods gave the date delevary that I recived the article to discover that it was employed the part before camera had many scratches on top. I returned the article

starsTypically excellent Canon Digital Elph, easy to learn and use
I was a large ventilator of the cameras of Powershot of elph of DIGITAL of the Guns. I had S400, S500, SD500, SD550, SD800IS and maintaining the SD870IS. The major part of my family also bought these cameras. What I like it is that once you learned how to employ one, it is very easy to move until still of their cameras and the curve of study is short and candy. I never had much a complaint about these cameras. I thought of not having the sight but then realized I almost never employed it on my preceding cameras, thus it is not any great loss. They say that this camera is heavier than the preceding models but they all weigh about identical. It is slightly larger however because it just hardly of the adjustments in my case of trainer made for these Guns. I also note that this model has a plastic blacker than others, particularly on that the door of slit of battery/SD. Fortunately they never broke on me Établissez quality, quality of image is as good as any their preceding models. My wife and kids with me really love these cameras thus me doubt that I commutate with anything else any time soon. In fact I seek only the cameras of Gun when I project to still buy one. I do not worry with any of these others. If you seek one of these Guns, selection right that in your range of budget because they all are good. I cannot think of one that which you would not be happy with. They really packed much in these small cameras. I like really the exchange of color, the accent of color, the photographs sharp, black and of white and Sepia. The possibilities for the creative photographs in the camera are without end, and easy. Obtain one and start to have recreation. Moreover, none of the 1/2 dozen approximately I of Elph de Canon had, or my couple, kids, etc ever had a problem with their Gun, not one. I even dropped one on the concrete in the past and I just took it and continued to take photographs (BUT DO NOT DO THAT, it is a feeling in difficulty). Fortunately it obtained only one small scratch on the side of the camera and it did not unload on the open objective. I noted too much that the prices fell for these cameras, they am much more accessible now. You ensure to just you purchase of a responsible and honourable retailer with whom you make confidence. It is to sometimes better pay additional little just to protect itself from some retailers on line who sell cameras not planned for sales of the USA, thus you probably do not obtain a guarantee legitimates [...

starsPerfect Camera
I was a ventilator of the cameras of Gun since I started to take the numerical photographs, the opticals am good and the assistances of software much!. I was accustomed to going to seek the larger models (A85 and A95) feeling the batteries of aa and the quantity of functions was the inclining points. Now I have this camera and 1) suitability to have it in your pocket while travelling, instead of in your bag or the car, returns to you able to take more these convenient photographs. 2) the batteries are not a problem of the whole, in fact less than one argument that the aas, since they last so much a long time. However I recommend to buy at least a battery of spare parts (or go and buy the batch of accessories of DIGITAL Elph de Canon for Gun SD950 EAST, SD900, SD870 EAST

starsFantastic Camera - Best Canon pocket camera yet
I had three cameras of pocket of Gun, better subsistence of each version right becoming and better. This the best still. The color, precision, speed are fantastic. Queest this which I can say? It takes simply large photographs with out of the agitation and the trouble of a cumbersome SLR. The great images in the low light and the stabilization of image functions really well. I was interested by the wide-angle lens to see whether it made and the difference and it make really beautiful. Obtain one and appreciate it.

starsCanon PowerShot SD870IS
This is my third Canon camera. I was very pleased with my previous Canon digital camera, a PowerShot 610, and wanted to upgrade to a smaller camera with more megapixels. The SD870IS met that criteria while giving me the same menus and functions common to the Canon cameras so there was next to no learning curve. It allows picture taking to be as simple as pressing the button or choosing customized presets for different shooting variables. I was very happy with the picture quality with the 610 and the 870 is even better. The only complaint I have is with Canon's software. In a nutshell, it stinks. I had a problem installing the previous version of ZoomBrowser which required many emails with Canon's Tech Support and much time installing, uninstalling, editing the registry and numerous other tweaks to get it to run. Now I have a whole new set of problems when I tried to install the new version. So my review is: Camera=great; Software=horrible.

starsHappy w/ Purchase
I really like the camera. This is my first digital camera and I am still learning how to use it and all of the bells and whistles...My initial thought is that the only issue I have is that it does have a delay from when you push the button until the picture actually takes. It's not as big a delay as my parent's camera or my sisters camera. From all of the research I did before deciding which camera to buy, I noticed that a lot of the digital cameras have a delay when taking a pictures. Once I get used to it and learn all of the option, it may improve. I will say that the picture quality is great.

starsAmazing quality and features for its size
Bought this camera after buying, trying, and returning the Olympus 770SW (it sucks btw, don't buy it), and have been very impressed. I love the manual controls on this camera, the actual usefulness of the preset scene modes, battery life, etc. I'd have to say the best feature by far is the detailed playback mode showing the brightness histogram and areas of oversaturation. It's tough to tell how your shot really turned out until you download to a large screen or print, and nothing's worse than finding out the blue sky in your picture recorded as a wash of white. With the detailed playback, I can see how the shot turned out, adjust the exposure compensation and white balance as necessary, reshoot, and viola! the perfect shot! I've confirmed on my laptop, TV, and from the printer. Sizing up the other issues most reviewers gripe or rave about:

LCD/lack of viewfinder--I always appreciated a viewfinder to get the best shots, but the crispness of the LCD in sunlight-or-less coupled with the above function eliminate the need for one.

Ease of use--very good. In auto mode does well, in manual mode does better. There are alot of tricks you can pull out of your hat in non-obvious ways, which makes it non-idiot-proof, but it's nice to have them there.

Barrel distortion--haven't noticed it and have been looking for it

Wide angle--its nice. eliminates the need to stich two pics together. don't think it's the right reason to buy the camera, but a bonus nonetheless

Macro shots--my biggest gripe (along with most p&s on the market). everything at the focal point is clear and crisp, everything else is unrecognizable. I don't know why this happens--my old 2MP Fuji p&s brick gets everything, including the focused macro shot. I'll miss that

Continuous shots--I wish it could do better than 1.3 fps, but in a pinch you can use the video mode and break down in to frames

Buttons--surprisingly easy to maneuver through for their size. Naturally balances in your hand so you don't risk covering the flash/lens with the other, trying to hold er steady

and for the Canon engineers, if they're looking--This camera could benefit from an LED for underwater and macro illumination and the ability to save images in RAW format

And my schpiele: You can't go wrong with this P&S. You can get more features and more zoom, but it will cost you in price and size. If you're a novice, this will give you good pictures. If you want to get into more advanced photog without grabbing a DSLR, this camera will give you training wheels along with some great pictures. If you're like me and need great shots at a moments notice, get it.

starsSatisifed but wished the red eye reduction worked better
I bought this camera after doing quite a bit of research. I am very impressed with the size of this camera, the face recognition technology and the image stabilization feature. I am a little disappointed with the red eye reduction in this camera. Even with the red eye reduction turned on most images I took on a recent trip had people with red eyes. Now you can fix the red eye using the red eye fixing feature as well which I like.

As far as picture quality goes, I am very satisifed with this camera. Battery life is great and the LCD is nice and big.

starsExceeded My Expectations
Wow, wow!!! The Canon SD870iS camera far exceeded my expectations and fell in love with that camera. I have been awaiting to get the right camera for 2 years. Hats off to Canon for developing a great product and recommend it highly.

starsCanon PowerShot SD870IS
Canon PowerShot SD870IS 8MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

nice camera, good for travelers

starsGreat Camera for all ages
I made my beofre research which I bought this camera. I am very happy with my decision. The images came out of large in much from states lighting. Even my four old years could take some photographs. Arrangements are very intuitive and easy to employ. I do not miss the discoverer of sight. I like the large display screen.

starscute but difficult and defective
This is a very cute little camera with many assets. But, there are buttons that get pushed because they are located too close to each other. It is difficult to "undo" what that accidental hit on the button did to the camera. The screen "burned" twice when I took photos of bright lights. These images are in the screen permanently and I will have to return the camera to Canon and hope they also consider it a defect. The screen itself it not scratched on the outside so this is a definite defect.
The zoom is excellent. The screen is excellent (without the burned sections), the buttons are counterintuitive. The direction book is not great. It is difficult to try to figure out just what to do with all of the buttons after the initial setting. The button that slides on the top of the camera slides far too easily and frequently gets si\et in movie mode when one does not expect or want it.

Note that I am a new digital user but I believe this kind of camera should be easier to use for the new entrant to the digital world.

starsExcellent all around pocket camera
This is the one I have been waiting for - Very happy with it's performance

starsOverpriced
I had originally bought the SD750 but gave it away and bought the SD870 for myself. Great camera but not sure that it's worth the extra $100 over the SD750. It is wider and heavier than the SD750. Still pretty happy with it.

starsCanon does it again! Great video, image stabilization and a WIDE ANGLE LENS!

starsI Love This Camera!
I have been a camera bug for many many many many years. I have had many cameras mostly single lens reflex and mostly big. I wanted a little camera that I could carry around with me in my pocket all the time. The Canon is perfect. I still use my single lens reflex camera for special occasions and great photographs. But my little Canon goes with me everywhere as a result I capture many more images of my life.

starsperfect little camera
I updated at this camera of an older DIGITAL Elph SD110, and this camera fixed many the small things which were annoying with this camera. The buttons were moved around to facilitate them to employ, and the screen has the icons which jump until easily let to you change options without worrying if you push the right buttons. Moreover, identification of face and being focused work of software large. I always like Elph because it is rough and compact so that I can carry it in my pocket. I note that it lasts better than of other cameras, and to have particularly the refillable package of battery rather than of the aa way or of other returns it harder. The will of battery last probably approximately 500 images, which is abundance for the majority of the goals. I took my old Elph longitudinally camping voyage, and it was the only camera which did not function badly at least in the past (of approximately 15 total cameras) though it took much use and tear. One on the side tilted of this camera are that it not photography well in the low light. On my old, the cover for the compartment on the bottom for the chart of memory and the battery were loosened so that it was difficult to maintain it closed (which must be closed so the camera to function), and I note that this camera has the same cover, but it is something which will become only all worse than the camera ages. Moreover, certainly purchase

starsGreat little camera
I had this camera during approximately a month now. All functions large. It replaces my powershot S80 which I gave to my son. The reason that I went with the 870 is the wide-angle lens that S80 also had. I wish that the objective be longer for projectiles of teleobjective. Compared to S80, the 870 projectiles of interior have a better exposure, probably due to the higher OIN dispatches. I like the weight and the size of S80 better than the 870 but it is personal preference. The 870 is so small, (not much to hold above) that I am afraid to drop it. I would give it that five holds the first role (which is perfect) if it had more possibilities of teleobjective. Otherwise, I think that it is the best contract available for the quality and the devices of image.

starsgood
I'm satisfied with this digital camera. Especially, at night, ISO works really good. Wide angle is also much better than I thought.

starsReal nice little thing
GUN SD870IS is a true fresh camera. It has all which I hoped for in a package if smal. Naturally a greater buzz would spectacularly improve this camera but for its size its probably of best. The best surprise is the visual quality which was one of my principal goals while deciding to withdraw my old numerical camera. It has a true good quality, better than I saw some in the past in the numerical point

starsgreat camera, not bad at movies,
I really like this camera, the SD870. I got the 4 gig Class 6 memory, and movies are very good, sound is actually perfect as well. I had no idea how well the movies would work. still pics are perfect. I have the A650IS for work, and the smaller, lighter SD870 can do almost everything the bigger one can do. One big advantage for industrial work is the A650 swing-out, rotating LCD screen, but that is not important for home/family use. The speed of both cameras between pictures is great, flash recovery, everything.
PROBLEMS: I am a control freak, so when I plug the camera into the USB port, I expect every functionality of Explorer; not the case. you cannot move pics from your PC to the camera for instance, so get a SD flashcard reader and pull the memory when you want to get your pics and movies. NOTE: class 6 memory will not work w/ older card readers.
last comment- read the rebate info CAREFULLY> I was denied because I was supposed to purchase a camera AND a printer to qualify; that pissed me off, but the camera still works great! JP

starsSD 870 is SWEET
This camera is very nice, I recently decided to buy a new camera and was deciding between the 12 MP Kodak, a Sony Cybershot with the touch screen, however I decided on the Canaon SD 870 for several reasons. For one it has a lot of great features.
1. Great Megapixels (You can blow up the image really big without losing any clarity)
2. Great Video: 30 FPS at good resolution that shows up very crisp on my computer screen and TV. It is very easy to put the video in slow motion, which I use to look at my golf swing, which it captures very well. Also you can do a movie mode which takes a picture once every 1 or 2 seconds which is good for clouds passing over and other good stuff.
3. Color Accent Mode, it is very neat to select a color of something and have that be the only color that shows up in the picture.
4. Wide Angle Lens, Definately makes a difference.
5. Great Screen, this does not take too much battery life, I recorded a lot of video and took probably close to 300 photos on one charge, but being one person who charges something when its only about half full, I consider I probably could have stretched the life out further.
6. Ease of Use: Right out of the box it was easy to figure out how to do certain things with the camera, I used to have a Sony before this and it is about the same to operate it. I did have to look in the book for a couple minutes to figure out how to do color accent and some other speacial camera modes, but it is all still very simple.
7. It comes with AV cables, and its easy to transfer pictures to the computer and view them.

Overall I am very happy I bought this camera on Amazon, I saved almost $60.00 over other retailers and I have no regrets about my purchase.

starsGreat Camera
It was a toss up between this and the Sony T70. After trying out both for about a week, the Canon definitely wins. It takes great photos, has lots of setting (both practical and fun), the 28mm wide angle is a nice plus, big screen, etc. I could go on and on.

starsNice compact camera
I had experience with Gun SD700 and SD1000, this camera are right like good or better. It is easy to look at the screen for projectiles and I do not miss the small sight, not that which I ever employed it had with the big size of the screen of liquid crystal display. The colors are extremely sharp on the liquid crystal display but the real images miss same intensity. The images are excellent however, just do not expect that the liquid crystal display gives you a good indication of "coulor" on what will look at the photographs like, your PC will give a better example. All the devices seem easily accessible (I say that "seem" because the options are similar both to the other cameras which I mentioned and I do not have really any other experience with models of the various manufacturers) and the images are fast to be adjusted. I particularly appreciate the white device made on order easily accessible from balance when the automatic white options of balance right do not seem to cut it. The copies of 4x6"que the SD870 produced in fine mode is good quality and me let us not can wait to test a larger copy. The speed of the imagery seems alittle slow but otherwise it was an excellent purchase. I needed a small unit which was fast to employ and convenient to fasten, this certainly made the category.

starsTrust me, will exceed your expectations..!!!!!!!!
You will love it, a wonderful cam with a lot of options, a very good deal that you will never regret..!!

I bought the camera two month ago and I can say it is the best camera I have ever had..!! I use to have a Sony with 8 MB that was much more expensive with much less options..!! This canon has all what you will expect from a professional camera. The screen is beautiful and big that you will really love. Pictures are bright and very nice, even videos are wonderful.!!!

Don't you ever think that saving money with other brands will make you happy, coz you will not buy a camera every week.!! You will need a good camera that will last a while, and I am confident that this camera will last with me for a long time..!!
I will definitely recommend this camera to friends and family..!!
Trust me you will really love it..!!

starsCanon Camera Review
EXCELLENT DIGITAL CAMERA! We had used a couple different Canon Digital Elph's several years a go and loved them. But we moved away from them and went to a Casio Exilim and then most recently a Sony Cyber-Shot. Well the wife said "can't I just get a digital elph?" So I searched for the highest rated Canon and ended up with this one. The 950 was higher rated, but I didn't need or want the higher pixels. And just as we remember, this camera does everything it is supposed to do and more. Canon's just simply work. They may not have as many "trick" features as other cameras, but after all of the digital's that we have gone through I would say that they are the best bet for point and shoot simplicity and quality. It is really hard to take a bad picture with this thing. And the new scratch and fingerprint proof screen is really a great feature too. Its a small thing, but I used to spend $10-15 on a screen protector everytime I purchased a camera. It's not necessary with this camera. And I always buy extra batteries for my digital's too. We have been using this thing for a couple weeks and have yet to charge it up. SO it apparently has amazing battery life. So now I have 2 extra batteries on the shelf just collecting dust. Needless to say, I would recommend this camera to everyone.

starsSD870 Review
Recently bought the camera and took on a trip to carribean. It took very nice beach, evening and indoor photos. Great image quality and numerous setting to tinker with photos based on location/mode. Also used to record short videos and very happy with result. Overall very happy with the product. Bought a 2nd one for Dad's b-day gift.

starsA good purchase, but some inconveniences
The images are large for a small camera, which was a replacement with my ageing but in very good S400. I bought this camera mainly for two reasons: portability and the name of gun. To take photographs, I do not take any complaint some. Large small a point and pushes. My exits all the lie with the visual capture: do not obtain to me false. For a camera whose primary mission in the life is to take the instantaneous ones and to be small, visual quality is fantastic. The volume of file, however, is enormously large with 640 resolutions. Never think of emailing them.

starsGreat Camera
This camera is impressive! The wide-angle possibilities are large, particularly by taking a photograph of group. The time of re-establishment between the instantaneous projectiles is excellent (very very short). It is my second Gun Powershot and I like it! I would strongly recommend this camera.

starsA great camera with some annoyances
Although it is a large camera there are two minor troubles which I would like to accentuate. TROUBLE 1: It has a connection of USB but that functions in a nonstandard way. It * only * work on Windows or imper with the assured software (and there is at least a solution of Linux available -- gphoto2). This poses a problem by connecting it with the port of USB on a TV which can read and the images and the noise of posting of a device of USB -- they know that nothing about the interface patent rights presented by the camera and can thus show the contents. It is an example of the trouble which can be caused by not respecting standards formally identified (I would await this of Sony, but not the Gun!) But the simple work-around must remove the chart of the camera and, by using a Variation-type-reader of USB, connect it directly with the TV. See RECOMMENDATION 1, below. My preceding camera had an arrangement which enabled him to function in mode of "mémoire of mass" (I think is who what it was called). This enabled me to connect it with any port of USB and reading the chart as if the cameras were not even implied. I could not find such an arrangement on this camera. Perhaps I just did not appear that outside still. I hope that somebody can correct me. So thus I will publish this review. TROUBLE 2: You can only date/timestamp your photographs in one of the modes of shooting (postcard). Why the Gun would impose this limitation mystifies. I also have some recommendations: RECOMMENDATION 1: You will have to obtain a chart of standard deviation (or SDHC) for your camera because that provided with the camera has a useful capacity too much low to be practical. To declare equal handbooks that not all the camera comprises will function with the provided chart. I found the following and right receive him of the Amazon: SanDisk 4 chart of end III SDHC of gigaoctet with the reader of USB 2.0 of MicroMate (SDSDRX3-4096-A21, packing of detail) it makes completely beautiful and includes a small device of USB which functions perfectly as I described in the paragraph above. In the image with the bond, note that the device of USB is not much larger than the chart of SDHC itself, making it easy to throw in the air in no bag of camera which has the part for a chart available of standard deviation. RECOMMENDATION 2: I wanted something to protect the camera as I carry it around, but I did not want to deny the "ultra-compact" advantage of the true portability. I found the following which is right the good size and the camera always adapts in a pocket of shirt when in the case. Caisse Noire Of Logic UNZ-2 Of Case Be sure to obtain a UNZ-2. The Amazon has most of the time UNZ-3, which is too large. Dimensions of the product of the bond do not seem any reasonable, but I have a UNZ-2 and it is the good size. There are other colors available. RECOMMENDATION 3: I also wanted a case which could be employed for the voyage -- something which could carry the camera, its charger, battery available, chart available of standard deviation, etc... I found the following which is large enough for the whole that. It can hold the camera even when it is in the case above. And it is still enough small to throw in a compartment of glove. It would not take much part inside carry-on the luggage one or the other. Lock up the large case of camera of logic TBC-3, CCP of Black/Gray

starsBest Choice

After reading lot of reviews and analyzing pros and cons and other closely matching specs like 850 A720is , SD series etc.

I just thought of going for the latest though I know it has cost me $50 to $100 more for something which I have yet to figure out.
But so far, I am happy with the choice.
I am proud to carry the camera and with its shiny look and 3" LCD, I have got what I wanted. I used to hate the A series as I had to carry replacement batteries all the time. With this I have yet to charge it and already used few hundred photos.
Its small enough to carry in the pocket and does not hurt like the A series.

It has quality finish and mettalic body and good lens etc etc etc.

I have yet to notice the need for the view finder which everyone uses. I dont use it.

If you are a average camera user and just want to get the things done as best in as easy possible way, just close your eyes and blindly pay and get this camera and be happy like me.

starsWell worth the price
The camera is all it is advertized to be. I was thoroughly pleased with everything about it. I purchased it for $291, and three weeks after Christmas it was down to $249. So do your research to find the best price. The dealer on Amazon from whom I purchased the camera delivered well ahead of the promised time. I would definitely use Amazon and this buyer again.

starsPicture Perfect !
I bought this camera as gift of pre-birthday so that replaces me my camera of standard deviation 550 of Gun and I like it! The screen of liquid crystal display in the back is phenomenal which makes my image taking a breeze. I like the 18 options different of projectile of screen which they have and the images I took with my camera are lit pointed and exact! I would recommend certainly this camera!

starsTruly an excellent little camera
I purchased this Elph after losing an older generation Elph, and I am even more satisfied than I was with the other one. I find Canon controls to be very intuitive...I have yet to open the Operator's Manual over all the years I have owned Canon cameras. With a little curiosity and intuition, it is very easy to navigate through all of the features with relative ease. Also, you should know that I am far from being a gadget-hound; I'm just not the type of person to sit there and figure out how to make fancy electronics work. So, it says a lot that I can work this camera with its many features so easily and quickly.

I can definitely appreciate all of the new improvements in this model over my older Elph: image stabilization definitely makes a difference, more settings (e.g. beach, aquarium, night shot, etc.), beautiful large screen, and the zoom is great for a camera this size.

I have captured some awesome pictures with this camera, and it is safe to say that I will be a Canon customer for some time.

starsHappy but disappointed with new battery
I had four numerical cameras of Gun since 2002. In general I like them. I dropped our last in the water, which was the end of him. I stuck with the Gun because I like their cameras but I also have several spare batteries which I wanted to re-use with our new camera. When I obtained my new SD870 EAST me was bumbed really that they changed the battery STILL. It is my only hang up again. Otherwise it draws from large images and videos.

starsGreat Camera!
My wife and I love this camera! I bought it to replace an aging Canon SD450, we were getting tired of the shutter delay that is common with digital cameras (non-SLR). This camera still has a shutter delay, but it is quicker than an other camera we have owned. It also has a great set of features like image stabilization for photos and movies, different shot modes and the LCD screen is huge! It is a little wider than our old camera, but for the features it is well worth it! I would recommend a LCD screen protecter, an extra battery, and if you like snapping lots of pics have two 2 gig memory cards on hand. Overall, this camera is a great upgrade for any older cameras you may have, and it is full of features that help you take better pics!

starsGreat little camera!
I like this small Gun. The quality of the images is large. The size of screen is large. All about it, it starts to the top very fast loan to take a photograph in less than 2 seconds as from time when you press on top the button. The flash is luminous abundance for a so small camera. The life of battery so, the stripped very good motionless one had to be reloaded of its initial load there is of many days. Like this small Gun.

starsBuy It!!
I bought first Powershot 870 like Christmas present, and the second for me because I liked it so much. Excellent the clearness and glare of screen, the only disadvantage is up to now the lack of a sight, which helps me while concentrating inside on more distant objects (to fly of geese, etc). But it is a minor disturbance. Easy remote loading of photograph, and the high resolution of megapixel is... great impressive clearness of enlarging. Leger disadvantage -- it does not come with a case and it is not "protect from the bad weather." But a great value for the money. I would still buy one... makes an attempt... I already.

starsCanon PowerShot SD870IS is Fantastic!
Small but mighty. Large 3" screen makes composing shots and viewing takes simple and precise. The anti shake feature helps reduce blurred images. The 8mp capacity provides a wide range of printable image options. On the down side - the camera has so many features, it's hard to keep track of them all without carrying the booklet with you.

starsFabulous for photographing children
I had last year a camera which just did not cut mustard because the delay of obturator was the slow sooo that I missed the projectile each time. Not with PowerShot SD870IS. Although, it is difficult to find speeds of delay of obturator, this one is FAST. To be even 8MP, it is ready for the next projectile very quickly. Moreover the wide-angle one is large for the normal projectiles of point and growth taken to you kids. The hearths of detection of face on the face thus the projectiles are focused where you quickly need them to be on a child moving. I like it just thus and thinks that I will always look at the Gun for cameras now.

starsNothing is Perfect!
Really, nothing is perfect! But all things considered, (PRICE!!!!! size!!!!!!) The Canon SD870IS is a pretty nice camera. I bought this camera as a Christmas present for my partner. She is in the real estate business and often has to take photos of houses outside and in. The 28mm lens equivalent was the first big draw. I looked at reviews for a handful of small point and shoot cameras with this size lens (equivalent). I narrowed down the search to this Canon and started reading all the reviews, (not just on this site) and what I was gleaning was that the camera was either GREAT!! or not so great because of noise at high ISO or speed of shooting.

Remember this is a camera the size of a small pack of cigarettes for less that $300, read that again please......

OF COURSE it is not going to be perfect, OF COURSE it will have some or a lot of noise at high ISO's, OF COURSE it is not going to have super fast shooting.......These things can be had on small point and shoots but you need to pay 5-10 times what this camera costs. It is a very inexpensive camera, period.... What more could you possibly want from a camera this size at this price??? I remember the first digital cameras which cost close to $1000 and were so big they stored photos on old style floppy discs!!!!!

Bottom line for me is you get what you pay for and what you are willing to sacrifice. This is a camera with a very versatile form factor (what pocket won't it fit in??) and a very attractive price which can take great photos.

starsLove it!
This camera is a great segway for people looking to get more experience in photography, without taking the plunge just yet into SLR's. I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a digital camera that does more than just "meet their needs"!

starsBest Point and Shoot I've Owned
With need a small camera for my honeymoon, made research and this went up as a solid through some sites. I am completely happy with him. Wide-angle work as put out to tender, the life of battery is enough good to obtain to me by one day of the intense shooting without problem, and the mode of film was an allowance of surprised: I employed it well more than I thought I.

starsSpectaculr Camera at a Great Price!
My wife and I were on the market for a new camera after the untimely death of our camera of Sony. I read as many reviews on the point and the growths because I could and decided this unit of Gun. I must admit that I am an enormous ventilator of Gun of the days of film of 35mm and however have always my A1 which it a long time any more never sees the use. This camera more than was exceeded our hopes. It is a wonder in all the states of lighting - the weak light was a major problem for our Sony. Not this camera! Even in the weakest light, it captures the true tonality of skin. . DEFECT OF THE SOUND REPRODUCTION! We now used the camera during approximately 30 days and it carried out above the hope to each turn. You simply cannot buy a better camera for the price. Strongly, Strongly Recommended!

starsLove the wide angle!
We purchased this camera before our recent trip to Disney World. It took incredible pictures. . . forget about buying postcards! Although it added to the price of the camera, the wide angle was a great feature. The flash, which I have found to be a disappointment on other digital cameras, was excellent . . . resulting in great photos indoors or out.

starsExcellent camera with all the bells and whistles!
This camera is completely simple and in right proportion complexes at the same time. I can easily employ it as large a point-and-car and likes the PEAKS but also learn something again each week that it can make. The sky seems to be the limit with this camera.

starsCanon PowerShot SD870IS
It is a very good camera and I like the various devices. I had employed it most of the time in the "automatic" mode. It is easy to use. The images are pointed and the colors are true. The lamp of assistance of hearth functions well in the weak light. The device of identification of face is large for images of group. The delay of obturator is tolerable for him is improved much above my old Gun PowerShot A80. Fasten visual catches with this camera are exceptional. Up to now I do not miss the optical discoverer of sight which is not described on this camera. More evaluation is necessary to be ensured than the images are a grainier once taken above OIN 200 without flash.

starsvery nice and compact camera
this Canon sd870 is very nice, it is compact and stylish, and the pictures quality is very good, and plus the 3 inches big LCD, cannot complain much.

Cons:none so far,

starsNice, pocket-sized camera
All is large. Too much it against... any place to put your right inch by taking a photograph and him them photographs is below average while bourdonnant inside. Otherwise, it is large, easy to employ, and we like the large screen of sight.

starsDo not the design of the on/off button
Continue to press on accidentally the button "Marche/Arrêt" while the camera is in the case. I employed the older model of the same series and it was very well.

starsGreat Camera until the Dreaded "Lens Error"
We bought this camera December 18th, it stopped working January 12th. I had an 8 year old Toshiba digital camera that showed up for work everytime I turned it on. We decided to upgrade to have a more compact and higher MP camera.

The Canon takes great pictures. I was so pleased with how easy the menu was to navigate. I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because it is a great camera that takes great pictures. If yours is one that does not have an error, you will be pleased, but I would be nervous wondering when it was going to quit working. The close up picture taking was very good. I took many shots around the Christmas holiday and was pleased with the quality of all of them. I had researched a lot before buying the camera and had read about the E18 error or lens error. I knew this up front but we take very good care of our things and felt that it would not be a problem.

Less than a month after buying the camera it stopped working when my husband went on a trip. The camera was not dropped or anything. At first he managed to get the lens to retract but it had an error again. I am sending it back because for $300.00 I expect it to work everytime I need it to. I am so surprised that a company like Canon that makes cameras with such great picture taking quality has dropped the ball on this major defect in what seems to be all their products.

Just google Canon E18 or Canon lens error and you will see what I mean.

Buy this camera if you want to gamble that yours will not be a dud. Just hope that it does not decide to quit working at the wedding, graduation, ect. or any other once in a lifetime event.

starsBest camera I have ever owned.
Bar none this is the best camera I have ever owned. Small, easy to use, yet takes fantastic pictures. Lots of different functionality for the more advanced users, ease of use for the novice. Easy to carry on vacation to the beach or to the kids talent show. Quality of the video files it takes looks better than that of some video cameras I have owned. I highly recommend it.

starsExcellent camera
Excel camera. I like the point and the growth, and easy to adapt in the cameras type of pocket. I had the SD500 since it came the first time out approximately 2.5 years ago. Liked, but the SD870IS is certainly a step ahead. I like the stabilization of image. Even my wife can draw from good images. Very easy to learn and employ.

starsGreat point and shoot camera
I got this camera for Christmas and love it!

At first I was skeptical about the lack of an optical view finder. But the large LCD makes up for it.

The best feature of this camera that you'll see is the wide-angle zoom. The wide-angle format is especially applicable for landscape shots. For traditional photos, you can select a traditional aspect ratio.

The best feature that you won't notice until later is the optical image stabilization. I don't have the steadiest hands and with my past camera I had to throw out almost half of my pictures because they were blurry from the 'shake'. I've taken over 200 pictures so far and have not had to get rid of one because of the 'shakes'.

Things I don't like:
1) With all small cameras, there is the problem of dust spots appearing in the photo when using the flash. At first I wasn't sure what was wrong and wanted to return the camera, but I did a little research on Google. I found a page on both Fuji's and Canon's web sites explaining the issue and techniques on how to reduce.
2) This camera supports up to 1600 ISO. I found that taking outdoor night pictures at a higher ISO make for better photographs. I tried taking a picture at 1600 ISO and was disappointed by the amount of noise in the picture. I reduced to 800 ISO and turned off the flash and the result was much better. Just a minor peeve but worth noting.

Overall I'd highly recommend this camera.

starsGreat camera!
This camera is sleek, slim and a pleasure to use. Great pictures and easy to use. Highly recommend it!

starsLove it!
This digital camera is slim and easy to use. It makes taking pictures fun!

starsAwesome Camera
Camera of Nice for the price. The very nice images of catches and has nice functions. The only swindler is that it could be little smaller.

starsExcellent little camera

starsgreat camera, so-so optics (lens distortion)
This camera has a superb user interface, and some fresh devices. The optical system are not also good however. For: - significant user interface with excellent adjustments in manual mode which offers a habit placing with acuity, contrast, saturation, and the separate levels of R/G/B! - In-apparatus-photo publishing with the very effective displacement of red-eye; it detects surprisingly where the pairs (even multiple) of eyes are, and you can also manually direct you to any sector which you want to apply the reduction. - good quality of image even to the levers of lower light. - interface USB2 at high speed. - mode of film of good quality (and fresh mode of film of time-fault) although zoom/mise at the automatic point optics does not function during against capture: - the red eye appears in each simple photograph that I take with the flash. Panasonic DMC-TZ3 which I tested did not have this problem. I think that the flash of the Guns too is close to the objective. If the Gun further moved the flash with the corner of the camera from the objective it the problem would reduce. With recognition the edition of in-apparatus-photo A of good possibilities of displacement of red-eye. - no support of mass of device of USB, thus me can mount the camera; however "gphoto2 - P" just downloads all the files very well on my box of linux of ubuntu. - optical system not good. I see the gleam in several of my spots of images (large, luminous, circular if the glares of a source of light direct on the camera to a specific angle). My S40 old man did not have this problem. Moreover the objective particularly has the strong deformation of barrel to the wideangle, causing images of fish-eye. If you take a photograph of a building or of a framework of table thus it fills almost photo, you will see lines severely folded with each 4 edge of the screen. With recognition it there has software free which corrects the deformation of objective, like the fulla (a part of hugin-tools) and the clens, which employ a free version of the commercial data base of the software camera/lens of PTLens. (also wideangle) cameras SD870/SD800 are not fact the free data base, thus me provided good arrangements on my clean which took much effort. Here the parameters that I assembled with, which I put in the file of canon_profile.txt data base of ptlens (which I obtained page of project of hugin on sourceforge.net): begin the group of aim: multiplier canonSD800: 6.3 menu_lens: # a value normalizes: order the deformation complexes close to the image sharpens # value of b: order the deformation of barrel # the value of C: order the deformation complexes close to exchange # multiplier: the value multiplied by focal length to give 35mm # camera cal_abc equivalent: 4.600 0.020000 -0.052000 0.000000 cal_abc: 6.142 0.010000 -0.030000 0.000000 cal_abc: 7.564 0.005000 -0.018000 0.000000 cal_abc: 9.107 0.002000 -0.009000 0.000000 cal_abc: 10.833 0.001000 -0.005000 0.000000 cal_abc: 12.672 0.000000 -0.003000 0.000000 cal_abc: 14.694 0.000000 -0.001000 0.000000 cal_abc: 17.300 0.000000 -0.000200 0.000000 end begin the group of camera: multiplier canonSD800: menu_make 6.3: Menu_model of gun: Exif_make SD870: Exif_model of gun: The gun PowerShot SD870 EAST the end which you can add the similar models of camera like SD800, IXUS 850 IS, IXUS 860 IS, IXY 900, to put in reference the same entry of objective. Here to come the best part: "fulla - p - L normalizes * the JPG" will suitably correct the deformation of objective of all your images! ! It reads different the lengs focal (how much you bourdonné for each photograph) of the heading of the EXIF of each image and applies the good parameters of correction to him. I really wish that the Gun could make some treating in the camera to correct the deformation of objective. That would not increase the cost camera as an objective of best quality could. It is a large small camera differently. Please comment on the way in which my parameters of correction of objective function for you, if you have a chance to judge them.

starsNimble, tiny, capable point-and-shoot
I'm a DSLR user (the Pentax K100D is my main camera) who wanted a tiny camera I could always carry around with me, no matter where I go. But, being a DSLR user, I'm used to having complete manual control over my camera's operation. So when I went looking for a point-and-shoot I had these requirements:

1. Tiny size - I wanted it to fit in a pocket, or in a cell-phone holster on my hip. Without this, I'm a lot less likely to have it with me all the time. The Canon certainly fits the bill here. I carry it in an iPhone holster.

2. Wide angle - If you have a camera with a fixed lens, I think it's better to err on the side of wide. It makes it easy to get everything into the picture, particularly when photographing people. And now that I'm used to the Canon's lovely 28mm (35mm equiv) wide angle lens, I don't think I could go back.

3. Good image quality - The camera should shine in ideal conditions, and allow you enough control to get a good image when conditions are not ideal. The perfect camera would have good low-light (high ISO) performance, but it seems that's nearly impossible to find in a point-and-shoot these days. At the very least, ISO 400 should not look like a poorly-tuned TV. Again, the Canon fits the bill. Image quality is generally very good, and ISO 400 is usable in a pinch. I would not take it above that, but I think you could say that of any point-and-shoot. Additionally, the Canon has a nice "Auto ISO Shift" feature. When using this you set the ISO where you'd like it and the camera warns you if it thinks the ISO should be higher. A press of a button will allow the camera to use the ISO it thinks is best, or you can leave the ISO at your own setting. It's a nice balance between manual and auto ISO control.

4. Manual control - I wanted a camera that would allow me to set the aperture and shutter speed, or at the very least provide aperture-priority and shutter-priority modes. The Canon doesn't provide any manual features like this, unfortunately. The best it provides is "long exposure" mode, where you can set the shutter speed between 1" and 15".

It seems there is no single point-and-shoot camera on the market today that fills all four of my requirements. But the Canon fills the first three, and it does a fantastic job of it. So much so, in fact, that I'm no longer concerned about having forgone total manual control. This camera provides enough control over the image that I don't think I will ever encounter a situation where I'll say "I can't get that shot".

I compared this camera to three others: the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33, and the Fujifilm Finepix F50FD.

Both the Panasonics have a nice 28mm lens, and the TZ3 has an astounding 28-280mm zoom, but they don't seem to have the image quality of the Canon. In particular, their high-ISO performance is not as good.

I almost bought the Fujifilm Finepix F50FD, because it's one of the few cameras with manual control. It's image quality and high-ISO performance are also on par with the Canon. Unfortunately, the Fujifilm has a very boring 35-105mm zoom.

The Canon Powershot SD870IS is a very nimble photographic tool that's ready to respond to creative opportunity very quickly. It's the perfect camera for carrying around and grabbing snapshots of the kids, or for keeping with you when a larger camera setup would be too heavy or bulky. Overall, I'm very satisfied.

starsVery Happy
This camera is extremely easy to operate, is easy to understand, and the large screen really helps. A great point and shoot camera. I didn't realize until I got the camera that it is also capable of video as well as still images. The video is easy to operate and has good image quality. This is a replacement for a Canon Power Shot S50 that was about four years old and is much better. I really like all the improvements and know I will enjoy this camera for many years.

starsBest Camera I Have Ever Had By Far!
This an astonishing camera. I had, Olympe, of the older guns, Sony and this camera the breath all left. The quality of image is spectacular. It makes images seem much more beautiful than the true life. The video is large for a small camera. The best part is him is very fast to take drawn afterwards from the others for periods when you seem to always miss your smile of kid. In this way you shooting right of subsistence. I could not be happier.

starsExcellent
Excellent! Beautiful pictures----excellent colour, clarity and no fuzzyness when taking pics (which was a problem with both of my other cameras).
Highly recommend.

starsthe best
i just love this camera it takes such beautiful sharp pictures. i cant believe how clear they come out even thou i have the shaky hands. im so glad i bought this one it was worth it.

starsExcellent product! Great Transaction!
_ I be a initial when it come to photography, but I have be really impress of this recorder of camera/video when I have see the quality of image and of video that it have produce. And right because it is small does not mean that you cannot add to it. I really manufactured a diffuser starting from the envelope of bubble to adapt above the objective, and it astounds how much hotter and completely the images cost (for the high portraits narrow which is). This camera is contract, however powerful.

stars The SD870 IS is one of the best of Canons cameras
By far, it is one of the best cameras of Guns. I was little been willing to buy a point and to draw from the cameras because of the bad images of low light, the delay of obturator, and the time of re-establishment between the projectiles. The this cameras makes all well. It takes some of the clearest projectiles of any camera which I had. I was little slow to learn all the devices, but the practice improved competence. Some could not like the fact that the battery must be removed on the load, but I did not have any problem to take a good number of photographs without refill. If you seek a large compact camera which takes great images, entirely automatic work, fast re-establishment between the projectiles, excellent color and detail, this camera is for you.

starsGreat pocket camera...so glad we got it
my wife is a professional photographer and we needed a little camera to have around and to keep in her purse. we've really enjoyed the Canon SD870IS. the screen is huge and the colors are really good. it helps to have some camera knowledge about ISO and Exposure because you can change some of the setting to get better pictures. we really love it!

starsExcellent product!
The Canon Powershot SD 870 take very high quality pictures at a very fast speed, the wide angle allows you to take pictures closer than other cameras. I you are looking for one digital camera this one is the one you should buy, it is simply a 5 stars camera!

starsHorizontial Black line across the LCD
I spent a lot of time researching cameras and found that the 870 IS best fit my needs. Within a month after purchase, a small black horizontial line appeared in the middle of the LCD. Now after about a month, the line has extended completely across the screen and the thickness of the line has increased. The camera still takes good pictures, but it is extremely frustrating every time I take a picture. I would not purchase again.

starsExceptional
I am a type of "point-N-click". This camera is LARGE. The quality of image is superb, captures cinematographic film is large, software to review of PC is large. I wish just that the Gun include 2GB a chart of memory of end III with the purchase. The chart of memory wimpy which comes with the camera took with the image 5 60 seconds video, then was full - geez. I did much research before buying this camera

starsJust Love it!
My wife and me obtained the camera like present of common Christmas. Our Grandkids visited us at Christmeas and we broke images well length. Very easy to employ, we made with a video of 25 dryness the first day. The images were of excellent quality. We chose very fine format 5MB. The large monitor 3"visuel is right about perfect. We would recommend lighly this camera.

starsCanon Pocket Camera
I have taken thousands of high quality digital images with this camera and highly recommend it for its small size, image stabilizer and long life rechargeable battery. The optical zoom of 3.8X can be increased to 15X when there are sharply defined edges. The camera works great for quick action nature photography.

starsPowerShot SD870IS use in bright outdoor conditions
There were many examinations of this product. I want to account for the use of this camera which does not have a sight in the luminous light. I had used an impermeable camera going back to 4 years with the sight and approximately a screen of 1.5 inch (switches 400 of Olympe) it ' screen is not obvious whole in the luminous light. I employed it most of the time while increasing and trotting itself, so much there is often the luminous sun and the sight is essential. I was determined to find a camera with a sight and a great posting and a larger objective of angular. The aspect of proof to survive was not as important as I always managed to maintain the dryness of camera stored in double bags of lock of zip fastener, in worse conditions. After weeks of research, I became to think discouraged and started of arrangement for a model without sight. I read an examination of this camera by a snowboarder which did not mention the visibility of screen to the sun, that I took as good sign. Other research had indicated that the newer models had improved much of the screens for the luminous light use. I had the camera during approximately a month and employed it during approximately a week around the lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley in luminous states of sun/snowy. The posting of SD870IS is rather luminous that you can easily frame an image under all the conditions of lighting. To downwards hold the button of DISP during a few seconds gives a kick temporarily the glare until full, but stripped of I found the need for employing it. The large screen also makes menus easy to employ as well. Another important device of this camera for the external landscape is him is the wide-angle lens (28 millimetres of equivalent compared to 35 millimetres for much of cameras). The size and the weight are also the important devices to trott itself. I was also satisfied with acuity, the exposure and the color.

starsMeets or Exceeds Expectations
This camera is with the connection of the quality of portability and image. A DSLR would have been fantastic but naturally they are completely expensive stating nothing about their portability. A camera of bridge would be a good intermediate stage but still, they do not slip exactly into its pocket. The SD870 is enough small to throw in a pocket (or purse, I am sure) and of the catches an image of quality. The mode of film has some additional expenses of recreation as well (for lack of time, accent of color). The metal body exudes the construction of quality and the liquid crystal display on the back is almost colossal. It is in value the additional money above the SD1000. A fine stage before receiving a diploma with a camera of bridge.

starsGreat Camera
Large camera of point and growth. Projectiles of good quality with of additional devices maintaining enough the photographer average very happy. A little expensive than the similar models out from there but me thinks that it is money spent well for the design and the smooth facility of use. Recommended.

starsCanon wins again
People who want a genuine camera of pocket cannot turn badly with the 870IS. The best devices of the camera are: 1)Image Stabilisation- does not obtain a camera without this that device it is the best innovation in photography since the numerical camera itself. 2)8.1 Megapixels - provides the pointed images which seem large on a large monitor or oversize copies (until 16x22). image 3)Great of quality-colors truth-with-life very. 4)LARGE adjustments of design of the liquid crystal display 5)Stylish of 3 inches in the shirtpocket. the objective of broad-angle of 6)The 28 millimetres is more useful than an optical buzz 10X. Yes, there are many examples where the optical buzz is wished, BUT generally, WIDE-ANGLE is the manner of going. I saw some reviews décriant the lack of a sight and hand drive operations of exposure. It is like saying Toyota Prius misses power of a Corvette and room in forwarding of Ford! No sight-who worries, which employs longer, particularly with the liquid crystal display splendid about 3 inches. Until hand drive operations of exposure, I to you guaranteed that practically NOBODY who buys a camera like this worries a small piece on this subject. 99% of does time, CAR function _ very well to be there time, such night or low-light to draw that you to be able to want to employ special mode, but otherwise, which to want for violin with those? If you, you would not buy a point and would not draw the cam. You recall, each camera is a compromise between the cost, the size, the execution and complexity. The gun struck the target of a position which takes large the PEAKS in a contract, easy to use the camera!

starsCanon SD870IS review
This is a very nice camera. Pictures taken in the daylight look excellent. Still have some problems with pictures taken in the dark (with the flash), but I have read some reviews about tuning the ISO to fix this. Apart from that the product is excellent.

starsNot satisfied
The camera looked great and I thought the quality of the pictures was alright. However, all of the pictures that I took of a Christmas party suddenly disapeared from the card without my doing anything I lost over 30 picures. I am returning the camera to JR Music where Amazon shipped it from. Not too happy with JR's return handling. I would not purchase anything else from Amazon that is not coming directly from them.

starsLOVE the sd870!!
I love this camera. I originally bought the sd850, and while it's pretty good, I wasn't happy with it. The 870 has everything the 850 was missing--a low battery icon, even easier use, slightly better photos, a wide angle lens, and it's sturdier. The little flap you lift to connect the USB cable seems much sturdier.

starsLove this camera!
I bought this for my mom. She is not a person of camera, but she can handle this camera with him easily is of large stabilizations of screen, wide-angle, and of image 3"! Like this camera!

starsNice camera!
Love this camera, it replaced a Sony Cybershot and it's completely lived up to my expectations. I'm certainly nothing more than a casual user, typically I use it for real estate photos so the wide-angle and image stabilization have been handy. I imagine they'd be helpful to just about anyone who's the same as I am ... someone who doesn't need lots of bells and whistles. I've been very happy with it.

starsWhat could be better?
First, my apologies to the extreme photo enthusiasts out there who typically write these reviews. They speak of chromatic aberration, barrel distortion, noise at high ISO settings, the need for a view finder, and the like. I am not one of you. You are great and I love to read that stuff, but I needed a camera that had a big, clear display, was simple to operate, and takes great snapshots at family gatherings and on vacations.

If you are like me, then get this camera. It has a big, clear display, it is simple to operate, and it takes great snapshots at family gatherings and on vacations.

My wife and I were dazzled by the display. It is beautiful, even in bright sunshine. That is probably my biggest complaint with the reviews I read on this camera, that the LCD is not good in bright sunshine. Those reviewers are wrong. Even with my poor eyesight I have no trouble framing my shot and then viewing the resulting photo in any lighting conditions except the darkest of rooms, where even a view finder would have problems.

This camera has a LOT of options, but the options that I use the most are right there and as simple to find as any digital camera I looked at, and I looked at a lot of cameras. The options I need the most are:

1. On-Off. Sounds stupid, but on some cameras, this is not that easy.
2. Shutter button. Big and easy to find by touch.
3. Zoom. The toggle for this is small, but it is a small camera. On all small cameras the zoom buttons are small. I like the toggle right up there by the shutter button. You can easily move your finger from the shutter button to the zoom and back without looking.
4. Flash on-off. Done with the little round rocker on the back. The little round rocker on the back is small and the icons on it are hard to see for older people, like myself. However, this is a problem for all small cameras. It's just a tradeoff you make when you get a small camera. It has to be small to fit on the small camera. Once you find it though, it is easy to remember, plus when you touch this rocker, a larger representation of it appears on the screen. This will help you find the flash on-off function.
5. Timer. It is on the little round rocker also.
6. Reviewing the photos that you already took. This function is a little bit complicated on every digital camera I have ever seen. On the SD870IS, it is about as simple as any I have seen. It is something you have to practice if you want to be able to do it quickly and seamlessly.
7. Getting the photos off the camera. I have played with the software that comes with the camera and it is OK. No better and no worse than other software I have seen and tried to use. Rather than mess with it and also train my wife on how to use it, we just prefer to do it the way we did it with our old camera. Not real simple (certainly no more difficult than the Canon software), but we have a routine that works for us.

The picture quality is great. Some flash shots are a little over-exposed, but we adjust that with Picasa. Easy to do. Over all, the quality of pictures we get is better than we got with our old digital camera, a Panasonic. It would take some great pictures but it was inexplicably inconsistent. Still, it was a fine camera that took a lot of abuse. Still works but it has a too-small display and we were ready to change after 5 years with it.

One other little bonus...the camera is ready to go within a second or two of turning it on. That is a very nice feature. Some cameras take quite a bit longer. This is not a big deal for patient people, but it is nice.

Are there negatives? So far I have found one little quibble. I agree with other reviews that finding a way to hold this camera is not intuitively obvious. You have to work with it to find a way to hold it without getting a finger in front of the flash, or to hold it with one hand. I think that is the price you pay when you buy a small camera that has almost the whole back taken up by an LCD display. But for me, the huge LCD display was one of the big selling points. And I must say that I was not ready for how beautifully this display works.

I did not review the hundreds of other options with this camera because I probably won't use them much. But the Canon SD870IS fits my requirements very well. If your requirements are like mine, I encourage you to take a good look at it.

starsGreat camera
Right wanted to say that this camera A all. It establishes in any situation. If you examine to buy this camera, good in value the money.

starsGreat Camera!
This camera was the talk of our Christmas parties this year, as it is just so easy to use. The large display allowed even our old eyes to see if we needed to retake those important shots. This is a must-have camera for point & shoot folks like us!

starsCrisp and Clear pictures!
I've had 3 canon cameras now.
My SD450 which my girlfriend has takes great pictures as well, but it's night and day when you get your hands on this beauty.
First off, that 3 in. LCD screen is just incredible. You can see everything in great detail with it's screen size.
And the pictures are sweet as well.
You have like 12 different preset scene modes for night, beach, foliage, pets & kids, etc. etc... you can't blow the picture for the life of you.
I'm still learning everything, but it's easy to navigate with the scroll wheel, like on an mp3 player....
Look, Buy it and you won't regret ever reading this review.....
I only buy canon digital cameras, because their simply the best looking and best software package , and of course the images are stunningly clear!
Cheerio!!!

starsFun and Easy
I purchased this camera for my wife's birthday. She enjoys it throughly. From almost moment you turn the camera on, it is ready to start taking pictures. She especially likes the fact that the display on the back of the camera automatically orientates itself to landscape or portrait based on how you hold the camera.

starsCanon SD870IS
Crunching clear images, faithful colors. A great improvement above my old S110 Gun. I miss the reflector view finder.

starsNeed Help & Suggestions w/ Canon SD870is
I've used this camera for 2 weeks now. It looked really nice, but I am having some troubles with it. When taking pictures at night outdoor (or even indoor with low lights), there are couple of vertical lines appeared on the LCD screen. Is it normal? Do I have a defective camera? Please help!

starsCannon Camera
Excellent buy. The best digital camera I owned so far. Fast delivery from Amazon.

starsDisappointing.
I received my camera one week ago and today it just died on me. The screen turns watch above that the screen of Gun fan then outside. It does not let to me any more take images or anything! I am very disappointed. I came into contact with the Gun and AM awaiting an answer. I hope that this is covered under the guarantee or something = [ it was a nice camera took large photographs and was very easy to work with. I just am opposed with the fact which is not useful for me any more.

starsNeed help with settings
I just bought my first Canon camera, PowerShot SD 870IS. It is very complex to use. I have problems with indoor pictures. The background either comes out too dark (so does people in the background) or subjects come out too bright. In addition, I have hard time getting the pictures of moving objects (especially kids) indoor and outdoor. I just want simple pictures how your naked eyes see the objects. Canon camera is ruining the pictures by trying to accomodate for every different settings. My 4 year old sony camera takes better pictures and I was able to capture every moments just like it is by simple point and shoot. I am soooo frustrated with Canon since I missed so many special moments. Many times, (espeically with kids) the special moments are just nano seconds long so I don't have the time to fiddle with settings, fuctions, and menus. So far with Canon, pictures came out too grainy, shadows, too dark, too bright and colors come out weird!!! So, I need help, does anyone know ONE setting that works for every occasion and pictures come out just how you see it. I spent many hours to figure out but so far no good results I would appreicate inputs.

starsabsolutely great
great point and shoot camera. video is very nice too. nice size and weight.
the included battery charger is tiny and weighs nothing.
everything works the way it should.

starsGood camera and service
Excellent camera, I did a lot of research and found this to be the best camera for the money. Takes great pictures and very good quality video. I was wanting a camera to take good video as well as great pictures. I am very pleased with this camera. When I got the camera it had a line of dead pixels on the viewing screen. I told Amazon about it and had a new camera in about 4 to 5 days. They paid for all the shipping also. I am very pleased with the service I recieved.

starsVery good subcompact wide angle camera
I have this camera for about a month already and it is very good. Here is a break down of what I like and dislike.

Like: *Wide angle 28mm.
*Takes great pictures. Color and sharpness are very good.
*3" screen is beautiful.
*Power up very quickly. Less then a second.
*Quick focus. That means you don't miss any action shots.
*Greate battery life.
*Video in VGA 640x480 30fps mode close to DVD quality. (Eat up
a lot of memory though. Usually I use the 640x408 30fps LP mode,
which is good enough and uses half the storage space.
Dislike: -Some what weak flash power when picture is taken at night.
-Picture with black background sometimes shows circular dots,
like the lens is dirty. This was actually complaint by other
people with different Canon digital camera.
-Placement of the circular control. My thumb always
accidentally press it. Wish Canon could have designed the
control at the buttom right or make the button harder to press.
-When taking video, the zoom function does not work.

starsnice color, even at night
This DC of Canon is one of the nicest pocket one nowadays. The color is nice, even at night without flash. It's quick to open, easy to catch a snap. Big screen make it really popular, used with ultra speed SD card, you'll relly feel the fashion of digital technique.

starsAwesome Canon Camera
I had the 800IS and upgraded to this mostly for the added megapixel since I use this for professional pics in the OR. It has a WIDE angle lens for a compact camera. Color is great. I have used pictures from this camera in publications. Although there is no comparison at many levels between this and my Canon 1D MarkII, the final picture is just as good if your technique is right. the screen is BIG on this unit. Less room for controls, though.

starsExcellent camera
It is simple to operate and take excellent pictures. The screen without fingure print affected is very cool. Menu is easy to navigate. UBS port cover design is flimsy and could be done better. Overall, it is a good camera

starsExcellent camera
I was always a faithful user of Gun. This camera delivers certainly excellent photographs and it is a great levelling of my withdrawn SD300. One of the best purchases than I made in 2007.

starsdowned but not out
i got this camera on wed and dropped it on thru
my heart skipped a beat
should have heard all the four letter words i was thinking
nothing happened to it
just like it came out of the box

starsReceived defective - no sound
The mine does not record any noise in mode of film. The need to obtain a RMA. Moreover the images of car-OIN of defect are too grained. I did not test arrangements of not-car still.

starsGreat Digital Camera
This camera is marvellous. Easy to employ for the point right of the projectiles of a growth. It is easy to learn and employ manual arrangements too! Up to now I did not have any problem with him. The gun is a name very well-known in the camers so much I trust them to provide a good product. This Camera ROCKS! I just bought it a few weeks ago like present at my art of the self-portrait for Christmas. I am really in waiting a good number taken of photographs. It takes the clean photographs crunching when on the car or by using manual arrangements. I like to have a large screen of liquid crystal display. My numerical last had approximately a screen of 1 inch. I downloaded a photograph which I took with macro arrangement. Narcotic at which narrow point it obtained and it so clearly. I would recommend this camera for sure. It is a little more money than a part of the other camera out there (of 179.00) but I am in value him haha

starsAwesome Camera
This camera is completely impressive. First day I received it. I like it just. Great end of projectiles to the top and far far. Which large compact camera to take a voyage. We went with WDW and speak about some impressive images of the animals by glass and aucuns camps. Large camera! ! !

starsGreat camera but poor build quality.
First of all, the Amazon is large. They answered my concern quickly and took care of me well. It is a large camera. It is a Gun. What is so large about the SD870 is that it has a wide-angle lens. It is perfect to take photographs and people of group. I will not annoy you with the other details because I am sure that you already were informed of them. So much here it against this camera. 1. I previously had a SD450 in my pocket all the hour. It is its replacement. I never had outlets with the camera igniting accidentally with the SD450. The button of power on the SD870 too sensitive or is badly placed because it accidentally lit several times. 2. The quality of construction is very dubious. One the first Amazon sent had a beam of the Pixel died on the end of the probe of the camera (red points revealed on the discoverer of sight and the screen of computer). Without argument, the Amazon still sent to me. Other functioned very well until it developed a worked object. I keep the camera inside the sunglass of Oakley put out of bag in my pocket thus it is well protected. Thus, I tried to clean the objective and the worked object is remained. The worked object that I speak about is a coherent brought back part of color more sunk on the image. My brother who also bought this camera of the Amazon has the same problem. I really hope that these problems are because of bad group because I like really this camera. For the bottom, I had a A10 Gun and SD450. I also have a Gun 20D and like photography.

starsWonderful
I love this camera. It's easy to use. My only complaint is it takes too long to focus and actually take the picture. It's great when i'm not trying to take pictures of my baby!

starsBest Point and Shoot Camera Available
With all the digital cameras to choose from, it is difficult to know which one is best for you. To help narrow the choices, I had a few guidelines in mind:

1. Cost no more than $300
2. Must have excellent image quality.
3. Must have optical image stabilization.

There are many cameras available for that price point, so I checked the reviews of all the latest models. Any camera that had image problems mentioned in a review was removed from my list. I also wanted image stabilization to improve our chances of getting clear sharp pictures. You may have only one opportunity to take that shot, so IS is a must have in my opinion.

This search led me to the Canon SD800 camera series. I ended up choosing the SD870 because of the larger 3" LCD. I have little kids that love to see the pictures you just took, so I thought a bigger LCD would make viewing with 3 kids huddled around the camera easier.

After playing around with the SD870 for a while, I'm very impressed with it. The larger LCD was a big hit. Who needs a viewfinder when you have this nice LCD to look at? I had no problem using the LCD outside with the sun directly behind me. If you are worried about saving battery power, bring an extra battery.

The image quality is fantastic. Be sure to set the camera at ISO 80 and enable auto ISO shift. This will force the camera to use ISO 80 whenever it can and only increase the ISO only when necessary. At ISO 200 and above, noise in the image becomes more apparent.

Taking video with the image stabilization is a treat. The video is so smooth that is looks like you are using a camera boom. I only wish the camera allowed the lens to zoom in and out while recording video. You can zoom prior to starting your video, but I don't understand why you can't zoom while recording.

What really impressed me is this is the first camera that I owned that could take pictures in our kitchen without having the colors come out reddish. Even with a Canon XTi DSLR, I had to set a custom white balance to get the colors to come out right. The SD870 got it right automatically.

Overall, I am very happy with the camera. I think it is worth the extra money to get the larger LCD. Having the wide angle lens and a bunch of shooting modes is just icing on the cake.

starsGreat camera but I prefer my old Powershot 10.
Felt it smart to opt for the 8 mp and not go any higher ... don't foresee having any of my pics made into posters! Disappointed that it did NOT include a camera case - and the generic leather case I did buy isn't as handy as the old 'copper' case on the Powershot 10 - which I REALLY liked but felt it time to upgrade! Like everything else, it has more 'bells and whistles' than I'll probably ever use ... or understand! I'll read the instruction book on the plane next trip out and perhaps I can avail myself of all the gimmicks each new generation makes available. If it services me as well as the old Canon I'll be delighted!

starsWide angle lens is worth every penny!
I was in the doubt about buying this camera or SD850IS, because it has a reflector view finder and is slightly cheaper, but I am happy I obtained this one. The wide-angle lenses are unbelieveable. I never has a front wide-angle camera, but henceforth it will be A must!

starscanon does it again!
I used to be a diehard SONY fan...completely ready to buy the CyberShot T2. My boyfriend bought me the Canon SD870 and I am thoroughly converted!
It is amazing, takes great photos comparable to DSLR and was a bargain from Amazon. I'm Canadian and the camera sells for $429+14% tax up here in Toronto. I got it for $324 on Amazon with next day shipping. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

starsCanon PowerShot SD870IS
Great point and shoot camera. I also considered the SD850IS but choose the 870 for the wider angle lens. The wide angle lens is great for family and friends pictures. Do not miss the viewfinder yet but I have not used the camera outside in the sun.

starsFlash options
There are 3 flash options available: auto / on / off, but they are available on the manual mode. For auto mode, there are only 2 options: auto and off. You can not force the camera to use the flash while in the auto mode. If this is a big deal to you, then do not buy this camera. (This is a big deal to me, and I regret I bought this camera without this feature).

Worst yet, the user guide is not clear: On the page (page 71 of the user guide) that describes the flash function, it showed that these 3 flash options are available for both auto and manual mode. But on another page (page 238, almost at the end of the user guide) that has a table to show the available functions in each of the shooting mode, the "on" function is not available in the auto mode.

starsGreat Camera, awesome screen
Very nice camera - the results are similar to others I Guns employed front. The screen is astonishing - 3"est well better than 2.5"! I also like the button separated to look at the photographs which I have right catches, in opposition to making as many turn a wheel other models make. My only felt sorry for is that it could have more intelligence by using the flash. If you are too narrow, it overexpose always. A thing so simple to fix in the chip, too....

starsThe best Camera ever!
You will fall in love with this camera from the first time you see it online, then, when you actually charge the battery, and press the on button for the first time, you will know that you have made the best decision ever to invest in this little piece of technology.

It combines the best of all types of digital cameras up to now, size, resolution and features. I also own the Canon XTi, and A95. Canon cameras are durable and made to last. The 3" screen on this camera helps taking better pictures, since you can determine better how they look like before you download when compared to a 1.8" screens.

I would recommend three batteries in total to manage shooting 800 pictures.

"weaknesses" lack of optical view finder to save battery time, and glare..... but these things are managable!

starsexcellent value for the features
I strongly recommend this camera of projectile of power of gun. Our older camera was a coolpix of nikon and the speed of obturator was impossiblement slow which did frustrating it very to employ. The speed of the obturator of the guns is very fast, and the wide-angle possibilities are marvellous for landscapes and projectiles of interior of part. The software included is also very easy and intuitive to employ. If you would appreciate the wide-angle possibilities, obtain this model. If you do not need him you could slightly less less expensive buy probably the model of elph of projectile of power of gun - but the whole series of elph of projectile of power of gun is one gaining in my book.

starsWOW.. CANON DOES IT AGAIN !!!!!!!!
I just improved my standard deviation 700IS DIGITAL ELF de Canon with this standard deviation 870IS. Very that I could say is this is the best absolute camera of P/S in him is class. I also have Nikon and the Gun pro Slr and this small gem compete the two cameras. I also had other cameras of P/S like Nikon, Sony and Sanyo, this 870IS the breath all left, by far! ! ! nothing comes even close to the facility employment quality and image. If your interested parties by the PERFECT camera of P/S and are been willing to pay little with one plus this are the camera for you. As they say. "obtain what you pay". This little wonder exceeded all my hopes by far. In fact I order just still for my wife. Now stop the reading this and place it NOW order! ! ! ! I encourage the order by the Amazon, they have the best price and their service with the customers is exceptional. COMMANDEZ-MAINTENANT THE!!!!!!

starsvery very nice
I like this camera no gun of love of I that it is a very nice camera and the delivery took place per hour as usual.

starsGreat Product
Extremely happy! ! ! ! I was accustomed to having the old man powershot 4mp gun. Which difference this made camera, particularly with speed to take a photograph.

starsAfter a lot of reading... the perfect camera!
I am not an expert as regards camera but I know some things about technology behind it. I sought a compact camera "cheap" with more devices than that I already had (Gun Ixus 400). The gun functioned for me for many years. Here the devices which I like approximately new the 870: - wide-angle: Beautiful AMAZING images of catches, with far and clearly. - MP 8: more that enough! ! I think that the 960 A the manner too much Pixel and not the wide-angle one. I manufactured posters starting from images 8MP and they seem splendid. - all automatic modes: when you are in a voyage you want to make the fast and clear images without configuring anything. I was astounded with all the modes which I can choose: portrait, night, aquarium, etc... Now I can finally take the instantaneous ones of night. I can also configure it manually that I like to make when I have time, thus you have all the possibilities in this small camera. - chart of standard deviation: the best of charts second never, thus fast, between the image and the image there is less than 1. Cheap charts too! - liquid crystal display and any sight: I had never used the sight before anywat and the liquid crystal display is simply perfect, I can take photographs in all the conditions without needing a sight. - good life of battery. - aucuns corners or turbid aberrations of color (some wide-angle cameras suffer from various problems). I strongly recommend it. The Amazon delivered very quickly although I did not choose one or two forwarding of day. I think that it is an ideal camera for the travellers who like taking the "professional" photographs. You would like with the landscapes of photography.

starsIn some ways excellent, in others poor
I recently purchased the sd870is for a vacation, based largely on the moderately good reviews that it gets. During my two weeks with the camera, I found it in some ways to perform better than any other digital camera I have ever used, and in some ways to perform very poorly.

Let's start with the good. Any shots in very bright light turned out great using both the manual settings and the camera's automatic settings. If you take all outdoor shots, this is just about the greatest point and shoot camera in the world. Video also looks pretty dang good, and while not a feature I considered when buying the camera, it was something I used quite often. The controls were all easy enough to use, and while the buttons and settings aren't the best designed things in the world, after playing around with the camera for an hour or so it's not too hard to figure out the main features and how to use them (although some features remain a mystery that even the manual couldn't solve).

And on to the bad. While all my outdoor shots were excellent looking, especially for a lower priced digital camera, the camera was really not up to par on indoor shots. On its automatic settings, I found the camera to be rather 'stupid' in determining how to process the shot. Even in moderately bright rooms with plenty of indirect sunlight in the middle of the day, the camera loves to flash the immediate subject and darken the background. Photos in a well lit restaurant would come out with the subject looking pretty good and the background looking like we were in a medieval dungeon. And we were in Florida, so when I say a well lit restaurant, I mean pretty dang sunny.

The manual settings performed much better indoors - many of the shots taken at 400 and 800 ISO on the manual setting turned out great. The only problem with these is that you experience quite a bit of blurring when there's not 100% sunlight outside, so for every good indoor photo there were 2 or 3 bad. And of course, if it happens to be dark outside, you get a huge amount of blurring. If one were to look at my photo of the Disney World castle at 7 pm, the automatic setting photo came out as a almost completely black photo with just the windows in the castle barely visible (and that thing is pretty bright). On manual, I had the choice of a blurry mess at 800ISO, or a moderately less blurry mess at 1600 ISO that was so grainy it looked rather like an old newspaper photo. The other digital cameras in the group were quite capable of taking a photo of people with the castle in the background and exposing them correctly while capturing the glowing castle, but the 870 was not.

Of course, no inexpensive camera is going to function all that well in darkness, and I wouldn't expect it to. What I do expect from a camera this price is to be able to point and shoot a photo of friends in a well lit hotel lobby without blurring everything or coming out with completely darkened backgrounds. The 870 did not seem to be able to handle this at all, and photos in any lobby or lounge came out like we spent our vacation in the most dimly lit place on earth.

As a side note, someone in our party brought their Fuji s700 digital camera, and in my opinion it outperformed the 870 in almost every aspect. The best 20% of the 870's photos looked a bit better than the Fuji's, but the other 80% didn't look anywhere as good. So, despite loving the size and features and most things about this camera, upon arriving home it was packed up and returned. I wouldn't pay more than $150 for something that performs the way the 870 did. Who wants a camera that becomes useless every day at 6:30 pm?

starsExceeded expectations, great value.
Great camera. I prefer to use the image stabilizer and High ISO mode and no flash. I've been able to take some FANTASTIC indoor shots that capture the mood of the environment far better than the flash-heavy, sterile-looking images that all point and shoot cameras seem to take when in automatic mode with the flash turned on.

These shots are better than the ones I'd be able to take by hand holding my Digital Rebel XTI -- no I have not yet taken the plunge and purchased an image stabilizing lens for it.

I also love the wide angle lens, even the small bit of spherical aberration that shows along the edges of the images when fully zoomed out.

Pros:
- Image Stabilization will change the kind of shots you attempt with such a small camera -- it's like having a tripod on hand at all times.
- Minimal shutter lag
- Good looking images
- Much easier to use (compared with recent predecessor models I've played with)
- Great battery life even with image stabilization on.

Cons:
- High ISO mode is a bit grainy
- Camera should charge when plugged into USB -- it does not.
- I wish it had a fill flash mode -- if it does I can't find it.
- I wish it had RAW mode -- I have come to appreciate the superiority of this mode thanks to the Digital Rebel XTi -- wow.

Bottom line: I bring this camera everywhere. You will too.

starsGreat point and shoot camera
It's small, really fast and takes better than average pictures for a point and shoot. Love the wide angle for getting everyone in the shoot. The large LCD display works fantastic so I don't miss the optical view finder at all. The movies are unbelievable when shooting inside with only the table lamps on. The camera feels well built with out being overweight or hard to handle.

starsEasily the best of the lot
I sought intensively, examined and compared Sony T200/70, Canon SD800, and SD870. While Sony T200/70s are sleeker, more elegant, and postings of touch screen have, they suffer from the low quality of image and the screens of liquid crystal display - PEAKS from grainy/noisy, and pixelated slightly the liquid crystal display, particularly T200. PEAKS much higher of catch of SD800/870s with a posting of high quality of liquid crystal display. The objective of broad-angle rocks large-time - almost 33% more detail in the projectiles. The principal difference between the SD800 and the 870 is that the 870 has a liquid crystal display of 3 inches (800 A a liquid crystal display of 2.5 inches, with the reflector view finder) and no reflector view finder. The larger screen is worth the sorrow the additional males, in my opinion - but if you want to save some $, then 800 fact differently can 870. The SD870 delivers almost on all - the broad wide-angle lens, large PEAKS of quality, screen of liquid crystal display obvious even in the light of the sun luminous, easy to employ and empocher. In fall, the construction of body is not very full, because of the use of the plastic parts, it does not have any visual mode of HD (only VGA), and there is no buzz in visual mode. It always obtains 5 holds the first role, because it comes manner in front of its competition. Easily the best in its category.

starsPoor battery life, on of button too easy to activate.
I had approximately 8 numerical cameras different from $300 to $1.300 and Général I am happy with the Gun. It looks with me that each nine is a worse beat. More Pixel of méga means more memory than it will employ the clearer image nonnecessary. The image of better quality comes from the lance of high quality. Approximately 5 cameras of MP which I employed have a better quality of image then this one.

starsI have tested a lot of cameras and...
This one is the BEST! First off, it is a point-and-shoot camera, so no matter what company or model you buy there is going to be a trade off for the size of the camera. I have tested the Canon SD950, SD750 and the Sony T-200. The Sony was cosmetically the coolest looking camera, but the picture quality was nowhere near any of the Canons. The SD950 was bigger and bulkier than the other Canons and 12MP is overkill for a point-and-shoot. I narrowed it down between the SD750 and the SD870. The 750 is a little smaller and lighter than the 870, and the 870 has an extra mega pixel, image stabilization and a little more optical zoom. However, the wide angle lens on the 870 made it an easy choice in my opinion. The 870 will fit in you pocket and take excellent quality pics.

starsGreat camera
This camera for somebody like gift, it is obtainable a large product, likes the screen of liquid crystal display on the back. For its price, how can you turn badly.

starsOn/off
I thought that it was a large camera. I had standard deviation 600.630.750.850 of powershot. The reason that I liked this camera was so large screen of liquid crystal display other then that it is pretty just like the 850. The negative one about this camera is the placement of the power on-off switch. Everytime I would open my bag of camera to take with a peak the camera would be lit already. Moreover the some PEAKS would have the white spots and initially I thought that the objective was dirty but I read with the Web site of gun which there is when theres a spot of dirty/dusty. Thus I only had the camera during 2 weeks but in these 2 weeks when it encouraged me to miss the sd850, I just obtained to live without liquid crystal display 3.0

starsAll I can say about this thing is "WOW"!!!
Okay, this camera is just incredible. There's nothing I don't like about it. I know there have been a few complaints on the battery, but you can fill a 1GB card on one battery charge. The pictures are like you were actually there, but I will admit that at the higher ISO setting, it can get a little fuzzy, but not too bad. The image stabilizer feature sold me on this model. I was looking at the SD750, but it lacked that feature. I made the right choice. My best advise is for you to go to the closest Best Buy or the Apple Store and try it out for yourself. You will see the true power of this thing. Canon has done it again!

Also, compared to the Sony T200, it fell short, which surprised me because of the Carl Zeiss lens. It does have more zoom, but the picture quality was beyond comparison from the Canon (negatively). The image stabilizer was worthless on the T200 in a slight shaking scenario (which I created in Best Buy). Canon wins the battle with Sony...

All I can say about this thing is "WOW"!!!

starsAwesome camera for MOM's!
I have to say going from a larger Nikon 8700 to this hand held is wonderful. As a matter of fact it takes even better pictures than I could have ever hoped for. My 2 year old is constantly on the go, not to mention usually in terrible lighting situations. This camera is amazing and I love the picture quality. I am by no means a professional but as a parent I cannot and will not leave without this camera. Also, the video capability played a large role in purchasing this camera. I am taking really great video's and not missing anything. Plus, I don't have to lug around two different electronics! I would recommend this to everyone and plan on buying it!

starsNice camera
As much of the other camera in the line of ELPH, the 870 A a nice feeling and good images which leave it. I do not miss the sight of the whole. The camera was on top is the first load for weeks and hundreds of photographs now. The wide-angle one is nice, there is a level of granulation in the photographs that I would have expected that are slightly less, but for the level of the camera which it is, he seems completely acceptable with me.

starsWOW FACTOR
DEFECT OF THE SOUND REPRODUCTION! Is this what them people say when I show them the photographs taken with this camera. I had several numerical point and draws from the cameras (various marks) and this one by far out of the glares they in quality and the facility of use of photograph. Right out of the box I could take the photographs shown below the product. The colors are luminous and vibrating. As an older injury with a little jolt of hand in any event, I was very happy with the function of stabilization of image. I should not have used a tripod to take the macro projectiles. It is a type of good direction of camera as well which is large for us not-professionals. Kudos with the Gun to make a large small camera!

starsGreat pictures and easy to use
We bought this camera for our voyage to Japan after having sought the similar cameras and decided to go with this one. We were not dissapointed. It was extremely easy to use the camera and to take photographs was very fast. A thing that I think would be nice must be able to force the flash to be above in automatic mode, but it is not a business since it is very easy to commutate with the manual mode and does not do that. The majority of the devices of camera jump practically outside to you while you make ravel by them, which makes it very easy to really employ them: like the change enters the levels of OIN, between the regular projectile of size and the wide-angle projectiles, between the instantaneous modes, and the mode of regualr and the modes of timer (and easy to install modes made on ordering of timer). You can also easily stripe images upwards to prick them together later. The optical buzz was more than proportioned, and to employ the buzz much numerical is very seemless so desired. I already had the majority of the photographs which we took developed and they proved to be large. Even my photographs which I took the night with OIN 1600 are proven large. And they also seem large on the computer, because you would envisage. The only thing is that you must pay attention developing your wide-angle projectiles with some of these places because of the emblavage. The defect 4x6 will cultivate definitly your projectiles wide-angle. Perhaps only the other thing which this camera misses is another tripod screw-in the spot for the vertical projectiles (has already for the horizontal projectiles). As for not having a discoverer of sight, I never missed it. I cannot really think of no example when you should employ it. The screen of liquid crystal display is enormous, which is large! And when you travel, taking photographs of family and landscape, is which of what you really have need. And to have wide-angle possibilities too was recreation...

starsExcellent camera
I use the Gun Powershot SD870IS for work and found it to be excellent and easy to employ. The orders are most intuitive and I seldom obtain out of the projectile of hearth. To change arrangements seems particularily easy. A colleague has the SD800IS which functions large as well. I found great posting against the discoverer of sight to be in value him. The best device is the wide-angle lens. If you have even states of low light, you will not need a flash but the images (on a screen of computer at least) are not grained. The battery lasts a long time. Obtain the case of leather camera of elph of gun. It well however protects from the subsistence the contract of camera.

starsGreat P&S camera...
I recently bought this camera of the Amazon and with time limited with him, it was large. My preceding ELPH was the SD300 which I bought in 04; it is levelling enormous. The quality of image is pointed and the colors are vibrating. This camera is miles in front of the SD300 with which I employed have. The liquid crystal display of 3"est simply beautiful to compose of the images with and there is of A widescreen the mode which will take photographs widescreen inside resolutions. I think that this device is large bus it can be shown in true 16x10 mode on HDTVs. Moreover, the camera starts upwards and can take a photograph in less than 1 dryness thus you do not miss any projectile. I maniablement recommend this camera for the people who seek a contract which provides large PQ, large screen of liquid crystal display, a good number of hand drive operations, automatically modes of scene, and much more options.

starsGreat camera, but don't expect miracles with kids
After reading of the reviews from here, I decided to buy the camera to see whether it were a worthy replacement for my sd400. to make long shorts of history, the final answer was not. Though the mediums seem pointed, my 2 years old son was always always turbid in approximately 85% of the images. IS only the assistances prevent jolts on your end. The fact that the continuous mode was slower than my sd400 dissappointing, particularly because I made place the PEAKS only at the average size. But the objective of wa takes the nice projectiles of crossing-over and the motionless photographs seemed large in general. I whole would recommend heartedly the camera for no matter whom seeking a new camera, just do not await me miracles with kids.

starsgreat camera ! !
it is a large camera, it has - big size - the large screen - wide-angle nice - stabilizer of image that I strongly recommend this product for people that great images of love and at the same time would not please carry it around a SLR.

starsexcellent wide angle compact camera
Working in real estate, I take a lot of pictures everyday. At least 30 or 40 on a good day. This camera fits nicely in my front pocket and battery life is good. The photos are very good quality and the camera is easy to use. The IS (image stablizer) really works, too. One minor problem is that I sometimes accidentally hit a button that changes my settings and that entails scrolling through the menus to reset back to normal. Also, the camera is slippery. I actually taped a small piece of sandpaper on the body to give my fingers some traction. I love this camera. It is a nice upgrade from the SD800IS.

starsI hear the camera is great, but I never received mine
I hear that this camera is large... the best. Could you say more if I would have received mine. The UPS dropped the ball still.

starsQuestion for SD 870 owners
It is really a question for other users and not a review. I had several generations of the cameras of powershot of standard deviation of Gun and really liked them all. My ONLY felt sorry for would be about the quantity of redeye (particularly in my standard model, the SD500). The redeye in the 870 is better the generations than preceding or than something I am distiller will have to treat? Thank you! Zack

starsEarly results are fantastic!
So far, I love this camera. It is small enough to fit in my pocket, but not too small that I can't "feel" it when I hold it. The picture quality is teriffic. The movie quality is great, too -- very smooth. If I had to find a fault, it would be that the the battery strength indicator doesn't give you a good feel for how long you have left. The Sony camera this replaces did a better job of this. Other than that, I'm EXTREMELY satisfied -- one week into ownership.

starsEarly results are fantastic!
Up to now, I like this camera. It is enough small to adapt in my pocket, but not too small that I cannot "feel it" when I hold it. The quality of image is teriffic. The quality of film is large, too -- very smooth. If I were to find a defect, it would be that the indicator of force of battery does not give you a good feeling for how long you left. The camera of Sony that this replaces did a better work of this. Other that that, I am extremely satisfied -- one week in the property.

starsGreat Camera
Large camera of pocket which functions well with the parts, the events, etc because of the wide-angle one. With need a camera to always obtain the group of friends in the reinforcement and this functions large.

starsgreat pocket camera
works great in fully auto mode. manual mode allows several useful variations such as exposure control, force focus to infinity (shooting from airplane windows), etc. Time lapse is fun to use.

starsLove the wide angle!
I was a professional photographer in an old life and I must say that this camera adapts my invoice for small and powerful. The wide-angle one is large for panoramic like excellent completion framed narrowly to the top of the portraits! I also like the slow synchro, of the marks for large projectiles of interior and night with the flash. I wish only that I could find a guard of screen because im in the desert and frightened its outward journey to obtain striped.

starsGreat camera
The best numerical camera than I ever had! I had Olympe and a Kodak -- no comparison except which they were not comparable in the price. Large the PEAKS and is not only about what it is all! I also like the screen of 3", and I can look at my subject even in the light of the sun luminous. It is a very sensitive camera with little or not of waiting between the projectiles. Really, it seems to be the small perfect camera!

starsVery good camera, sharp pictures,convinient
I like to buy from Amazon.I can trust them and very resonable price. It sell cheaper than Fry's I really l
