Canon PowerShot SX100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)
Reviews:

starsGood pictures but battery life is atrocious!
This bought, because all Raveberichte, which I read here over the Canon SX100IS! First the good things: The few photos, which I geschauen made large and which was zoom shot wonderfully. Like a charm one works, after I shook to even cause the camera on purpose, one blurry for illustration TO ATTEMPTS and, but could not! Now the reasons returned I it: I hated the "wheel" on the back of the camera. When trying, it to spiders will I always up it and otherwise end above, overall construction errors somewhere click to terminate! I hated feel from him. It felt like inexpensive plastics and did not feel strong in my hands. Believed always like it out-slipped! But the reason, which I returned it, was because of the battery life or the lack there on. I used the batteries, which came with him all of approximately 45 minutes. I replaced him then with RH-CHARGABLE, which came with the "additional sentence", the that, which I bought from Amazon and received approximately 5-6 minutes with those. Set the other sentence inside and received only 2-3 minutes with those! A brand-new pair lithium AA went buying and received only 20-25 minutes with those. WHICH PROPERTY a CAMERA IS, IF IT not PHOTO MAKING ABILITY!!! Not acceptably. I returned to of Amazon my rueckerstattung expecting! Final result: This camera in my hands cheaply and not strongly believed. The battery life was not acceptable a joke and.

starsGreat Camera at a Great Value
I improved from the Canon of power SHOT S3, which looks, in order to profit from the thinner crest factor to, therefore can I it into my bag for moving, which moving and the cases of stage use. For general photography I would build on my Nikon D80. On the condition of the low light inside and particularly into the stage appearance, I was really impressed with that the achievement camera and the amazing image quality even at the maximum 10x optical zoom shot. IchWAR in the situation to take mobile topics prisoner in the self mode in the condition of the low light a good 90 per cent of the time. This is impressive for point and shooting camera and I became even more impresses its, if the sharp reloading time can itself be to reduce retarded from the 7 to 8 seconds. I examined the macro characteristic in addition and find her very impressive. I like the large 2,5 LCD announcement, which forms the existing and results of reputation as much more pleasing. The video quality is amazing, even for interior appearance. I like also the zoom shot expensive position comfortably to the right near the shutter, but he could be more exact. I really think the amazing point marks of the attractive price it an irresistible purchase. The only aspect, which I do not like, is the part, which everyone underlined otherwise i.e. the coded map, now is in the battery room. That is fair a Warpdesign, therefore I must fall back in transfering illustrations with the provided USB cable, instead of taking out, the coded map. Canon earned to receive bells in this point but it is not too annoying to use the cable instead of. Entirely, I am very lucky with the camera and her will definitely recommend.

starsKiller Camera!!
Cannot enough about this small gizmo really say. Everything, which we wished, was a relatively nice point and an entry thread, but terminates above as much with more! I improved to the Canon SX100IS of an old Olymp. I liked the Olymp, but love the Canon. I regarded the ELPH row after its compact size, but was disappointed over their lean zoom shot. I decided to have been let and impressed go the thin Design for a better objective each step of the way!! I mostly took photos on the self-adjustment, in addition, with the speciality attitudes i.e. night shot, beach, snow, etc. confuses. Taken one numerous films, inward and out. Everything failed way better than expected. Delete as bell. I got caught a photo of a Kojoten on the north coast deceptions of sank Cruz at estimated 50 yards with the digital zoom shot 40X and could not to mine eyes at the image quality believe. Definitely like manual lightning - was not, if I became, but determined surely, straight as frequently I lightning on our old camera to turn off had, in order to receive an acceptable shot. Picture compensation the system seems to work very well. The face acknowledgment system is large also... simple to turn off if you do not wish it. All attitudes and menus, which are even for a beginner simple and user friendly, like itself. I like really the software, which also came together with him - way better than iphoto. I tried to use some the characteristics SLR of the camera like manual focus and shutter speed and those am also quite simple, although I am safe that someone could form better use of those characteristics with more experience. Pretty long-lived property... I let it fall and freaked from that, which it was ruined, but it not even kept a scratch and work perfect. Really as it takes regular AA - in a clamp, you can find to batteries everywhere. O.k., thus it WHOLE cannot be, positively quite? Well if I unite things select must I, do not like you not, one will its function the selecting wheel - it actualsometimes hard, it, without pressing it, to be turned am keys also, if this marks query any. I repaired this expenditure, by I the wheel not straight used, but straight it as key used. The fact that it has only 2 AA, strikes is nicely for weight, but not so nice for longevity. I experienced a pair blurry of the activity of shots of the people, which down a hill sledding are, but was at most finely... I think that it was fair user disturbance. That is over it for negatives. Entirely, my experience with this camera beyond expectation was. For mobility, user friendliness, number of the characteristics, quality of the objective and pictures is fair it, which I wished. Warmest greetings to me.

starsNice camera
Nice camera - I wish the sharp cams automatically above. Differently than those it is a very nice camera.

starsCanon PowerShot SX100
Great deal on a great camera! Easy to use. The only thing that is a little bit of inconvenience is that the memory card is located with the batteries. I have to be careful of the angle that I'm holding the camera when I remove the card so the batteries don't slide out.

starsGreat Camera

I couldn't decide between the canon powershot sx100 or the fuji finepix s700.
The last couple of cameras we had were just basic point and shoot, and I wanted a camera that had more features and optical zoom.
Ended up going with the canon, I've had it for about a month now, and haven't had any problems with it so far.
The batteries that came with it were regular alkaline and didn't last long at all. Rechargeable batteries last longer, and you can use them over and over. I found it's best to take an extra set along if you plan to go anywhere.
The Memory card that comes with it holds anywhere from 3 to 52 pictures depending on the number of recording pixels. Taking video seems to use a lot of space up. So it could use a bigger memory card than the one that it comes with, but I haven't found it necessary.
The zoom seems to be good, but this is my first camera with this much zoom and settings. It does get more grainy/blurry once you get into the digital zoom (past 10x optical.)
Occasionally it hasn't done the best in low light, but is usually fixed by raising the flash or changing the settings. Some of the best photos I've taken are in the manual setting.
I've also used it to get photos of backyard birds and it sure beats the point and shooters I've used even with binoculars hooked to them.
Overall its a great camera.

stars#1 in a league of its own
You will not be able to put this camera in your shirt pocket. It does not come with the tastefully designed case you get with the Digital Elph - actually, it comes with no case at all - but, unlike digital SRLs, it will not cause a permanent spine damage, while still providing a pletora of manual options. The sharpness and color rendition are fine for my unprofessional eye, and among its features I really like the ability to "downgrade" an already taken shot to a lower resolution; saves space while giving you an option of still keeping this "not so great, but..." picture.
My major concern was the batteries: how many should I carry? I started with two Energizer Li batteries, which I get cheaply in bulk at the Sam's Club. After a week of vacation and more than 300 shots on highest resolution/largest size, many taken with flash, I still didn't need to change batteries! This leaves my Canon rechargable battery pack unused and unopened.
"Facial recognition" works great if faces are big enough and subjects are directly facing camera. I use it to see whether anyone's eyes are closed on the picture - it's much faster than usual scrolling and zooming.
Macro mode works great - so much better than in smaller Cannon cameras!
Image stabilization: I did not notice much effect of it, especially with higher zoom, but I didn't test it specifically.
To me, this camera is a great transition from the credit card-sized point-and-shoot-and-email-it cameras to something different, which might eventually help me to make prints worth hanging on the wall.

starssx100
Large camera. Photos of the low light are not so bad, as Spezifikt. pro-communication control unit-arranges and it out be let; they are really pretty good and regard the price distance and the mobility of this camera. Love the battery choice, since I on taking this moving and on come-jetty-end journeys flat, in which I at energy a connection or an adapter are not close. Every time I unite shots take, which I remember, to how much I paid with a smile, obtained I each penny value from this thing feeling.

starsGood camera for the right person
If you are not concerned with the purchase a small, put sorted camera in, which is large the Canon SX100IS. I carry it on my belt and he am compared with the credit card sorted models for point an annoying, however receive you unite more characteristics. Mainly sport the zoom shot 10X, which differentiates large during the cases such as kids, plays and progressive rates, plays, etc.. The larger objective gives you a broader distance of the elections for shooting modes. The larger size forms it more simply to hold the camera stable when shooting. The size permits also more efficient lightning, which illuminates the sharp interior illustrations up... a range, in which I most bag believes to sort digit as failing miserably. There is no more viewfinder and this takes some, which keeps too used, but many of the cameras go this direction somehow. I with the digital viewfinders was not impressed, which were found in other models, therefore selected I this. The illustrations are largely brightly, clear, sharp and. If this kind fits, for which you look, buys you it.

starsLove the Powershot line
Excellent camera. Credit 5 powershots possessed. Love that they take regular AA batteries. This received for the extra zoom shot ability. Small nevertheless not so compactly to touch is hard. Full right!

starsExcellent camera, powerful and full-featured for the price
I'm loyal to Canon digital cameras, because of past experience with the lovely vivid colors they produce. When I saw this model, I knew right away it was perfect for my needs -- since it has advanced features but also the elements of a Point & Shoot. Plus it's just the right size; lightweight, but well sized and shaped so that you can get a good grip on it (unlike the Elphs).

In testing it out I've found that the camera's normal color saturation setting is a little lower than I like it to be, but you're able to adjust the color saturation to your own preference, so with Vivid, I'm producing lovely photos.

I'm also so impressed with the number and power of features. The camera can sense its orientation and adjusts the display when you turn it sideways. It also uses this orientation sensor to record which side of an image is the real top... with this camera, it's virtually impossible to take a picture that needs to be manually rotated after shooting.

Similarly, I wanted to test the in-camera red eye correction feature, but found that the anti-red-eye feature is so good I couldn't intentionally take a photo with red eyes... believe me I tried.

The image stabilization feature works incredibly well. I shook the camera intentionally to test it, and it still took a photo that was sharp and unblurred. This feature would be very useful in dark settings or for people whose hands shake.

The level of detail on the photos is stunning. And all the pre-set shooting settings are fun to test: Kids & Pets, Beach, Indoor, Snow, Fireworks, etc. The movies are also really sharp and detailed, and the sound excellent -- who needs a stand-alone video camera?

starsGreat Camera
I love my camera, and after my other canon was stolen from my suitcase, I was glad to purchase another. I just miss the swivel function prior to this one, but the zoom is out of sight! The picture quality is outstanding. The only problem is that some pictures taken at night in low light do not always come out so great, but others are quite nice. It just depends. Overall great camera- not super slim, but for those who love to take pics- the size is very doable. It's no wonder consumer reports ranked it #1.

starsGreat little Canon with a 10x zoom!
I wasn't sure I could get used to a camera without a viewfinder. But I am, and I love this little Canon. The 10x zoom is great for the small-ish size of the camera.
I've been using a bigger size digital with a zoom lens attached, and I wanted a small camera that I could just throw in my purse. I didn't expect the quality of the photos to be as good as they are. I never thought I would use the video feature, but the other day when we had a little snow flurry (it never snows here), I turned on the video feature when driving down the road (my husband was doing the driving, I was using the camera) and caught a great video of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen and it was beautiful! This Canon is so much fun!!

starsCanon Power Shot camera
This camera is perfect for our needs.

We normally don't do that much shopping on-line; this transaction went very well.

Satisfaction score = 10. Complaint score = 0.

Thanks.

Very covenient Camera, just using 2 AA batteries for power. Easy and fast to operate. Pictures clear and and beautiful with colors. I'am very satisfied with this camera.

starsExcellent Camera
I wished a camera, which had a zoom shot 10x, which was established into it. I wanted to replace my Canon of power SHOT A70, which a small LCD announcement and an external lense for zoom shot had. It seemed that, when I needed a zoom shot I did not have the lense with me. I investigated the different Canon of power SHOT cameras and went to a camera memory seeing that they recommended the SX100IS camera in the person and in the salesman. It is the same size as my old Canon camera however lighter, which only needs for 2 batteries, it run to let is suitable. I can still use my loading unit and have two extra batteries, if I need her. I love the 2,5 tariff LCD screen and do not miss not more viewfinder. Fit into a smaller case thus me can travel more simply with it. To use is simple and I likes the characteristic of the pop UP of lightning and the picture balancer. An excellent choice for me and me saved money, by buying it from Amazon!

starsGreat value, great service
After it had done a quantity of research, here gave buy me the best value definitely. Delivery was request and my camera was in the perfect form.

starsVery Nice Camera
This has been an excellent camera thus far. Used it at a college backetball and from the last row in the arena I was able to get close ups of the floor. Would recommend it.

starsExcellent product!!! A chilean girl certifified....
I'm from Chile and its the first time I buy through Amazon. I choose this camera and once I get it, I can only say that's all what I expected!!! I was afraid about the weight, but its very confortable to carry. The zoom is really awesome.
I totally recomend Cannon Cameras, this is my second one, the instructions are clear and its easy to understand.
I will take pictures of my beautiful country and I will post it...

starsGreat camera
I was impressed largely with the Canon SX10909IS. The jugs are sharp and free, pour the picture compensation work out and the optical zoom shot 10X for receiving those of the close high short-circuits were large. The digital zoom shot 40X me the large looking jugs had even given, which with every other digital zoom shot were compared, which I had used, even if her only a digital zoom shot 15X were. The fast and simple adjustment of the f of notice helped to cause large sunset opinions. The only negative, which I had found, took jugs in the weak light, when I could not use lightning, or the topic away for lightning too far was, like city lit at night. I am safe with little more experience with the camera and by adjusting the shutter speed, I could in the situation its to repair this problem. Entirely the best digital camera, which I used or possessed.

starscanon super easy camera
I have owned a series of cameras over the last 40 years. In my earlier years, I was a professional photographer. Now I just want to take record shots of my grandchildren and my travels. The Canon SX 100 is an easy camera to operate (without even looking at the manual) and the picture quality is outstanding. With the 4 GB memory card in place, I can shoot hundreds of pictures without transfering them to my computer.
I love this camera

starsSo versatile, so EASY!
I maintained, in the amature photography to plantschen. Mostly trees. I may stand trees and her generally still. But, as soon as I mean kids had, and I had to up pack and with something receive the digital age, which was inside stopped, my old SLR, which could hold with them above. I did not possess first a Polaroid of any kind, which took one hundred years to the Download, and had an area for memory expansion... Held approximately twelve illustrations and also, stank. Thus I bought a nice Pentax point and an entry thread and held to drag roles of the film for one while inside. I took finally the header, when the cameras 5mp came out and bought samsung digimax. TC... It served a purpose and took good in free shots. Loose red eye and taking of all possible photos in flourescent light were forbidden. I had some other play cameras, as a Oregon, which are scientific, and something other pix one decided bag and, in order to look this year. After lots buying, I accounted for on the Canon, which you regard now. One which for camera. Here the characteristics after, which I looked for, are. 1. Illustration clarity. They can have all megapixel, which wish you, but there a quantity does not form other factors concerned for a free illustration... is. 2. Versatile usefulness, (as inside I know photos in such a way to smear the mobile articles and without brighten problems, etc. inward and outside make...) 3. Small I would not like to drag around an enormous camera. I take my SLR with me with all objectives, if I wanted to do that. 4. The zoom shot must really work. I mean that -- a quantity zoom shot is, but largely, not if the illustration always looks like a multicolored cloud -- this camera have picture to stabilize, and it FUNCTIONS to 5. I wished the camera to illustration a RIGHT take, when I clicked... Mine samsung had the bad habit of offering from from around seven years of me the key to the red eye to hold downward and many other factors was effected "warming up", before they really made a photo. To say, unnecessarily there never was a choice for an open shot.... Loose photos of the backs of the people and peoples, who correct faces after something, happened... So the Canon has it all. For years Canon worked, in order to form photography for dorks like me the picture balancer work simply amazingly. The pictures are sharp. The camera is small and compact. The red eye reduction works on the whole time. The faces Sucher it swings the zoom shot comes out with free area illustration within the shots of the reason with and without lightning comes out somehow you wonderfully and lit up well whether or not I use lightning! The camera can last illustration after illustration with practically no remainder period and no preliminary heating time. Is here, which I was and found out surprised past and LOVE! Switching to the different modes is simply, total describing. This beautiful small camera uses batteries VERY conservatively. My old camera possibly took.... 60 shots, before I had to replace the batteries, and I should not, the forbidden God taking a film with this camera must I the batteries after three minutes of lubricating film formation stop and replace. On the two spurring energy source of lithium (batteries, which I also used in my last camera), I took two hours value of the film short-circuits, have approximately three hundred and fifty photos and I her on at least 20mal to go through the photos turned and use him like you prahlenbuch. Now the battery says empty, but it goes still strongly. So if you receive this, do not change the batteries the second, you lose all your staffs.... They have good few one hundred illustrations to the left on it. I am SO lucky with this camera. The price is fair sugar glaze on the cake. Forwards I received only it one month, for the holidays, and I straight trialing him.... I researched not even into the world of the characteristics, which she offers. I tilt waiting period.

starsGood performance, but bad power system
The camera is good, but when you use it in a frozon weather, the batteries (AA) are dead, much less performance compare to lithium battery design.
Also, it is too big for entertainment using.

starsExcellent choice
I looked for 10x for a new camera, which was smaller, had at least zoom shot and used AA batteries. This camera met finally those conditions. I was not disappointed over this acquisition. I was with the worked on way Canon cameras trust and this was fair so simple to be used, as those, which I had bought before for friends as gifts. I like manual lightning me engage characteristic (light impact up lightning itself, if he asks), to receive while the last camera, which I had formed you for change quantity of the attitudes, the shot without him. Takes the shots correctly (as good it can), if it, do not decide it to use. I had the picture compensation (IS), on video cameras, before like that this was new on a silence for me. It functions large, as I used it for the photography a rough leg falcon, which floats over victims and whom shots from better then I had hoped for came. Really in these illustrations one helps. They are not disappointed in this camera.

starsgreat zoom, but that's about all
I returned the camera and here's why:
1) the battery power is AWFUL. It takes 2AA and I had to change the batteries 5 times during the course of a few days and all I was really doing was testing the camera out. I imagine that if I were to take the camera with me somewhere were I wanted to actually use it I would need at least 2 or 3 sets of extra batteries. It was quite surprising actually.
2) The time between shots is way too long. Depending on the battery life which was usually low, it took over 4-6 seconds between shots when the flash was enabled.
3) The AF-assist/red-eye reduction light was blinding (when flash is enabled). I took pictures of my family members and they said the light was way too bright and that maybe something is wrong with the camera.

So for those reasons I returned the SX100 IS and bought a G9 which I am very happy with.

starsGreat little camera!
Spent LOADS of time researching the newest digital cameras. Settled on this one due to the balance offering of 10x zoom (who's image stabilizers REALLY do work!), 8mp, face detection, video capabilities, ample shooting programs (kids and pets, snow, night snapshot, and stitch assist), all at a reasonable price. I have a Sony handycam that gives me much grief (has 20x zoom and an image stabilizer that deteriorates significantly at it's maximum usage).

Other nice-to-have features on this camera is the camera orientation detection which means it automatically adjusts (re-orients) itself when you want to take taller shots (turning the camera on it's side). In addition to face detection, there is also the face selector which lets you pick a primary face to focus on. Image depth and clarity is amazing at 8mp, provides pictures that more true-to-life and perfect for cropping or enlarging.

Canon's non-proprietary output formats (.JPEG picture format and .AVI video formats) are highly compatiable with every video editing software available, which unlike some Sony products (.VOB video file formats), makes using this camera and it's outputs easy, affordable, flexible, and just plain fun!

My only "gripe" is the memory, which is really two fold (1)that Canon doesn't offer internal backup memory...all images are stored on the meager 16mb memory card (included in the purchase) and (2)that Canon couldn't afford to offer at least a 1GB memory card included with purchase. The 16mb only holds 3-4 images (depending on your subject complexity). I plan to maximize this little camera's capabilities, not just for still images but for video as well, so I've opted for the maximum available memory of the new 16GB SDHC Class 6 memory card. At the very least, one will need to purchase at least a 1GB, otherwise you will need to stay close to your computer to clean your card after every 4 shots.

Overall, the camera is super easy to use (both on the front end and on the back end) and when one wants to take spur-of-the-moment shots, this camera is johnny-on-the-spot. Would recommend this camera with the caveat that the purchaser will absolutely need to know the total cost includes the additional purchase of a more substantial memory card.

starsGood Camera
I ended up buying this for myself for Christmas and am very happy with it. I wanted something with a good optical zoom. I hated how most cameras couldn't get a close up. This camera, first of all looks good, but second of all works well. The reaction time is quick from when you press the button and when it actually takes the picture. The batteries last pretty long too. The last camera I had the batteries were dead after 5 minutes. The batteries that came with the camera lasted through the Christmas time, with everyone playing with it. Matter of fact, the camera is so good, my sister and her husband are going to go buy one too!

starsPicture Perfect
I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but when looking for a camera with a high ISO to take pictures of constantly moving children, I found this little number. It was cheaper on Amazon than in any of the big box electronic stores, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

starsExcellent!
The SX100IS is an excellent camera. Mine fiancé was interested, on, to buy a Canon digitally to Aufruehrer but, since we were without a camera during quite some time, we decided, to begin with something which before we to the speed with a more professional exemplary is simpler, rose. The achievement of the SX100IS was the outstanding, excellent picture compensation, which is even in the low light, conditionally and at home, is not the illustrations not blurry (they can be a little darkly however not blurry). The fact that lightning is only, if it is raised manually one of the best values of the camera works! None more necessity to fight against the annoying bang from lightning! I must also mention that the camera lasted a bad case; it was dropped unintentionally by relatives close. Since I had before possessed a camera, which a similar fate and stopped work thereafter suffered, I was afraid that this camera would suffer the same consequences after the case. However to my surprise, the camera held, without working errors! The video quality is very good, with clay/tone, and you know zoom shot inside and zoom shot out during the admission. The macro works on large as well as manual controls. The camera is enough flexible to use it as point and shooting, as well as a professional camera. The zoom shot is faultless and even on the maximum zoom shot levels, which turn out the illustrations without Unschaerfen! The digital zoom shot can away of the probabilities of receiving the granular illustrations therefore lower to be turned. I could also, to a list of the good material to go to hold! If there is everything, I could criticize am the fact the fact that, if you turn the camera on and away from the objective slight noises if inside or coming out forms. There are also slight noises, when inside or out zooming and I was concerned that in the videos it would show but No. is, the zoom shot noises not obviously. In the summary, if you wish good optics, point and shooting large zoom shot abilities, flexibility between and manual characteristics, and a reasonable price the SX100IS is for you.

starsoutstanding!!
I am the envy of my digital camera friends. Screen size is unbelievable. To use characteristics exciting and simply.

starsGreat camera
Bought it as a present, recipient loves it. Easy to use, lots of features, takes great pictures.

starsAlready creating memories
Excellent camera and excellent price. I made beautiful photos of the Grand Canyon and the new Orleans. Everyone on the journey wishes my illustrations!

starsGreat Camera!
I really enjoy this camera! In order to be honest, I am a beginner at the digital cameras however at the large shots of taking this camera and am simple to use. My preceding camera was a Canon A-1, and this has similar shooting modes. It seems to go through batteries but I regard this to be a small expenditure.

starssx 100
this camera does a great job- the 10x zoom makes taking outdoor photo's easy. the camera lacks a peep hole but this does not bother me at all. the flash is manual,if down it does not operate, when up it functions as set or as needed. the camera is fast and easy. the multiple face recognition aspect is neat, never an out of focus face. the anti shake feature is real great when the zoom is used and especially if you add the digital zoom to the 10x(4x=40x). excellent camera and great product as always from cannon.

starsGreat camera!!!
We received this camera, because we are, a baby to have and wished a large camera, which is however simple nearly like SLR camera enough, the foreigner to take can to illustrations for us. This camera fulfills those! It permits me to steer the aperature therefore I can an indistinct background have and professional illustrations cause.

starsWhat a fantastic camera
I really love my new Canon Power Shot XS100IS. It takes wonderful pictures. It is easy to operate but some of the written instructions are hard to follow. I love the way you can take pictures without using the flash. It is very easy to handle while taking pictures. I have arthritis in my thumbs and this camera's shape is a blessing. I was sure I ordered it in silver but received it in black...oh well, I don't want to pay more shipping. I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a high quality camera for a good price.

starsI love it!!!!!!!!!
This is my 3. and well "shows you

starsIt's a good camera, but the color of the pic is a little light.
Good digitally camera with optical zoom shot 8MP and 10x. These are the principal reasons, so that I select this product. And secondly, I like it which batteries of the use AA, which permits me to take to the camera for a short journey outside and do not need not to take battery loading and I do not need to regard, in order to buy a new battery for more swithover. But this illustration, if I export from this camera into my computer, I did not find the color am colored little light, shining and not richly to enough. Quality(definition) enough are clear, but, if u receive the illustration on night, u finds the noises in the illustration. That is everything that I found, when I use it, but I should finally, it say a good choice for more beginer, which knows the camera more functions covers to wish.

starsI just got this camera for Christmas, great colors, slow shooting
I just got this camera for Christmas. It takes wonderful outdoor picture with vivid colors. Indoor pictures are good, but just don't expect to get your grandchildren to sit still long enough for it to warm up to take a second picture.

It takes way too long warming up before you can get another shot. Mine cost $299 four weeks ago, but I noticed in today's ads that here this camera is selling for under $200 now.

If you don't need to take fast pictures then this is great camera!

starsGreat Zoom abilities
I just bought this camera and brought it on a ski trip to Big Sky MT. It takes very little time to learn the different settings on this camera. The Zoom on this camera is great. I was able to get sharp pictures on the slopes from very far away. When in continues mode you can blast away pictures during the action. I love this camera and would recomend it to anyone.

starsCanon camera
Excellent camera. Very good illustration quality. Optical zoom shot very effectively also in free shots. Suggest that you regard strongly this camera.

starsGreat pictures, but you better have extra batteries!!!
I bought this camera for my wife at christmas, because she wanted the Image stabilization feature on the new digital cameras. We have been overjoyed with the quality of the pictures, and all of the really neat features(if we took the time to learn how to use them all!). The only downfall to this camera is the battery life. YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT use regular AA batteries, otherwise you will spend enough money on one family event to buy 2 of these cameras! If you are thinking about purchasing this camera it is absolutely the best deal, unless you want to change the lens. However, be sure to invest in rechargable batteries!

starsSon loved it
I love powershots (an older version has me, as my whole did not disappoint kids)and, this camera. Although I did not receive to use it since it was a weihnachtsgeschenk, my son explained me that it makes outstanding photos! He loves the 10X stabalized zoom shot characteristic. The 8MP does not hurt not also;) Be recommended in high of degrees

starsConon SX100IS
I received this camera for Christmas 2007. I love the simplicity of it. I am one point and shoot kind illustration of the customer. But it has a very large menu for those, which would like to have more control. I like particularly the optical zoom shot 30X. I take a quantity of photos of the enkelkinder and, which are able, in the morning to be with difficulty accessible however a large close-up to still receive. Mine "fraudulent" is only the fact that she does not have a Ansichtsucher. I like the stability of standing still the camera against my cheek. All pics exist with the digital window, although I must say that this is a good size and is simple with that face acknowledgment characteristic to use.

starsA very solid camera
Well, I got this camera as a gift in early December, and I must say I am very pleased with its performance. It is one heck of a camera. Its a great medium range camera because a beginner in photography can use it, and it was great manual control for more advanced photographers. It takes very good pictures and is a lot of fun to use. Also, its 10X zoom is marvelous and allows you to get close and personal from far away, making it useful for concerts or other such performances.

Pros:
-Good shutter lag(when first auto focusing, then taking the photo)
-Good, bright flash
-Large, visible LCD screen.
-Excellent zoom
-Aperture, shutter speed and manual focus controls allow for excellent control over the camera for more serious photographers
-has excellent batter life and is nice and easy to hold

Cons:
-Slow flash recycle
-Only comes with a 16MB sD card.

Overall, this is an excellent camera, but buy a good set of rechargeable AA batteries, and a bigger sD card to go along with it. It is a great buy for the money and is made by a reputable and high quality company

starsI Love This Camera!
After I had used an older exemplary digital for three or four years, I finally decided to raise a notch. I did a quantity of research on-line and accounted for on this Canon. It is wonderful! There are thus many things, which it can do that I never am in that, to remember it all but for which I wish -- a camera, which takes the good, sharp photos -- it am perfect. Price was rather much good, delivery request,!

starsVery Happy
I bought a power SHOT A570, over an old A510 to replace and had to send back it. It had full manual controls, which I liked, and it made pretty good photos, but the building quality was terrible. The zoom shot was jerky and it straight believed or did not sound not like a very healthy camera. This SX100 is however another history. It is firm, is smooth the zoom shot, how can be and the LCD is many clearer than the A570. Plus illustration the quality seems even a little more better. My only objection is, if you screw a stand verge to the camera, which covers them the battery cover. I use nearly always stand and I store my camera with the batteries not in it so, if I liked to take her, out, which I must eliminate the stand verge also. But this is relatively small and I is sure that I can keep used for him. During it certainly sufficient manual has controls, by the specialist to be used uses most people it probably straight as point and entry thread somehow, therefore this much an expenditure would not be. If you of going with the A570 to think and you it perhaps to swing be able, I would be recommended spending the extra money on the SX100. The compromise, which you receive in the quality, is worth it. Most retailers receive $300 for him, but I bought my from Adorama for plus shipping $235. Amazon does not seem to have it in stock at the moment.

starsGreat camera for the everyday joe
I needed a camera with good zoom shot and very simply to use. I had that Kodak Z740, but pictures returned blurry, particularly in the situations of the low light. I would try the different attitudes and even the reached assistance of their Techlinie. Regarding after the purchase I could count not in good illustrations, around and different camera reports, preselected I the SX100IS. First thing, which was I, the attempt, that inward shots, outside, bright light, low light, while a snowstorm takes - both at the regular and full zoom shot... Wows, the illustrations returned largely. I main header a card reader up, therefore could downloaden I the illustrations straight fast and not need, up mean computers with all kind from software to to load. I would like to make straight good photos without the technical effort, this camera had makes possible for me to thus do. The only impairment is the consumption of the regular batteries, but you could keep your own rechargable supposed. How you can explain, I am not camera whiz, wished I straight something to use that simply am and supply large illustrations. This camera is it.

starsPowerful Powershot Camera
I am an engaged Flickr member and family photographer. I have an extensive Canon DSLR, which becomes old. I bought this camera, around my DSLR ergaezunzen, because it has characteristics, which my old camera, not like screen, face determine automatic focusing and compactness has. I love the screen, because everything, which I wish, is frequent a short tie-clip. I am impressed with the camera. It is packed with characteristics. On the top side she can do manual focus (I was surprised) and many other things that my DSLR can do. While most characteristics are simply to use on the lower surface spent I unite hours the strong manual reading, in order to determine, as to rare things such as bolting device the automatic focusing and you do the exposure. The manual is quite distinguished, therefore I found out, what I had to know. It lasted straight some time. Compared with an old Canon DSLR, I found the following pro and the Cons. PER: FULL FEATURED for a newest DIGIC III processor energy of user compact video price (particularly on Amazon) CONS: 1-2 is perceptible second lagtimes of sensor noises for ISO 400 and over plastic bodies is more whereever the Canon SX 100 my daily camera to the photography family and taking in the car, which I go. If you are interested, gave I unite shots on this of Amazon web site admits. I hope that they represent above.

starsMore con's than Pro's
Canon PowerShot SX100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

I purchased this Camera by looking into the positive reviews that every other site had. Here are the problems
- This has just a reasonable picture quality. But this severely fails in dim light. Believe me, My Nikon coolpix 3200 is far more better in dim light. I also compared the shots with Kodak ZD 710 and Kodak is miles better than SX 100.
- The color distinction is very poor. A blue object in low light looks like a black object. I tried with all possible night settings. But unfortunately nothing worked.
- The camera performs superior than others in terms of focusing while zoomed and clarity of zoomed photos are better
- The flash recharge time of 4-5 secs is unacceptable
- The only advantages I see are battery life looks to be decent, and this camera does not need a lens cover and is 'relatively' compact

I lose 10% restocking fee on return, still I would prefer to return this.

starsCanon Powershot sx100
This camera is ehrfuerchtig. This is a large camera for someone, which out straight shoot amimming and to begin would like, but wishes also characteristics one mmSLR 35 in the future. It can take the beginner photographers to the higher creative levels, if they are ready to move on the larger and better things on. It is very user friendly, has the large characteristics to play to also or a fair goal and entry thread in the self mode. You receive each way large illustrations.

starsVery slow camera..Not impressed with picture quality as well
I used Canon A610, before I bought this camera and was extremely fulfilled. I thought of the high classification to any advanced camera and bought SX100 AM however in the morning, which are not impressed at all. It has a very slow period of reply between shots. Illustration quality is not also very impressive. Another problem is its lightning. It has pop UP lightning, the necessities to be out manually poped. There is large chaces, which you would solve it to slam foret out and precious shots..huh! I return this camera.

starsGreat Camera with really good zoom
I bought this camera a month back and I am totally impressed with it. Photo quality is great, IS works really nice and video mode also works brilliantly.
Its handly pocket camera and looks really nice.

It has only one drawback and that is flash recycle time. Its bit high, but can be still not a bad deal.

In low light it works really good and night mode photos are really clear.

About Battery, purchase pair of rechangable batteries and it would work nice. It always better to keep backup batteries.

Overall really nice camera and overall a good deal!!

starsGreat, user friendly camera, even makes movies
This is an excellent camera for the money. We were previously using a Canon PowerShot S30 (3.2 MP) for many years, and it was time for a new one. Of course, considering our old camera, any modern camera would be an improvement, but this one in particular is fantastic for many reasons. I have large hands, and hate the puny "cigarette pack" cameras with the tiny buttons. This one is large and the side grip (on the right side of the camera while holding it) is very comfortable and secure - even though it has a wrist strap I know I'll never drop it. Add to that that I've taken several photos and movies with it without even opening the instruction manual, I'm very happy with it. I believe after reading the manual I'll be able to do almost anything with it. Perfect camera for the casual, "point and click" user.

More pluses: Uses AA batteries (I use rechargeables but you could use ordinary batteries if you get stuck on a trip for example), takes SD memory cards (very common, all modern PCs, printers, and even some TVs use them), takes great digital mini-movies (about 100meg per minute, with a large SD card you can take respectable home movies)

On the minus side, obviously this is intended for the casual/novice user, makes a great family camera, but of course if you're a pro you'll want something more (and probably wouldn't be reading this anyway). It doesn't have a viewfinder, but I certainly don't miss it, the screen is large and bright. Also, if you're looking to put this into your pocket, it won't fit, so you'll need a small camera bag.

The only real problem I had with this was when I made a movie of my son's ninth birthday party, the candles caused an odd reflection in the movie - probably something to do with the lens. He ended up with 9 little dots around his face, even though the cake was in front of him. Not a real big deal, it came out kind of cool.

Bottom line: Strongly recommended for family use or if you're looking for a great value for the money. Having owned a Canon before this new one is great and I know I'll buy Canon again when it's time to replace this camera. Recommend going to a "brick and mortar" store and trying it out, then come back and buy it on Amazon - their price cannot be beat! And with super-saver shipping, it got here in 3 days!

starsCanon SX100
The camera takes exceptionally good and clear pictures. The 10X zoom comes in very handy. The camera feels sturdy and I havent had any problems with the scroll wheel, which i have read about in some other reviews of the product. But night time photography reduces the shot-to-shot time horrendously. Its highly frustrating when u want to take a few quick shots and you end up waiting for ages. I found the flash range to be a bit less. I havent used any other megazoom, so I cannot compare. If a high optical zoom isnt your top priority, you might wanna consider other models, otherwise, its a good camera overall.

starsBest in Class
This small jewel has more characteristics and accomplishes those better than many more expensive and larger cameras. They cannot go with this camera wrongly!

starsLove this model but I got a bad one
I love the features and picture quality of this camera but I happened to get a bad one. Even with new batteries, any brand, it would only take 20-30 pictures and sometimes I hadn't even taken any pictures and it would tell me to replace them. Exchanging for another one because I don't want to give up on this model due to it's size and features. Easy to use and versatile with plenty of manual settings. Flash recycle time is slow but a minor inconvenience. Beware the possible battery problem but don't hesitate to pick this one up.

starsdoes what it does very well
This is, nevertheless another IS contract ultra zoom shot cameras. Canon seems a sensitive compensatory play with this to have played - and after an attractive strategy to have struck. The large points of the camera are smaller large image quality at ISO 200, or, ARE for the constant pictures completely, which are extended, a usable high ISO (not large, but usable - particularly if you have something like noises ninja), Leichtgewichtler, AA batteries and a video mode. Another premium is a general Canon premium, it does very small in the way of the picture translation in the camera so the higher ISO photos, if good, as, the lower react not as, better, around the processing than to communicate cameras, which do a large quantity in camera noise reduction. The face treatment focusing is really a nice characteristic and the self focus relieved fast - I was quite impressed. If you know the Canon UI, the SX100 is simple a wonderful refinement of him. Everything to adjust is now, if you have large hands, the role wheel can a problem be nearly completely intuitive, but that is over the only error, that, which I could see - and for me, who was not even an expenditure, those would be downsides that there is not RAW processing - however for an inexpensive camera, am not not unexpected this. The screen does not leave you to zoom shot, as its shooting - for that you would need the S5, are not whole the broad end the fact that far and higher ISO not everything is, which largely (however you improve as other point and shoot (if you quality wish, regard you here dSLRs) - and really those are the Hauptdownsides - all compromises, I ready was to be formed. At the end of the daily, if the ISO than 200 is smaller, receive large photos. Marks it ARE NOT simpler to take Telefotobilder those at the camera vibration indistinct lie - and them work well. If you look for for an inexpensive, shoot good, bright point and this can be.

starsGreat Camera but Slow Flash Cycle Times
I hoped for a complete package of a camera, when I ordered the Canon SX100IS. The good points are that it maintained much of the same characteristics and menu elections as the Canon of power SHOT cameras. The zoom shot 10x is absolutely fantastisch. It is an important improvement of my other point and entry thread cameras (Canon A95 and Canon SD600). The illustration quality is also - excellent color and very clearly very good. Unfortunately the camera has a very slow sharp cycle time (upward of 10 seconds). This is that I the discovery so annoying, which my old A95 and SD600 for interior photos take off. One which for dishonor as this camera such large photos takes!

starsnewcomer
although I am a beginner to this complete digital illustration age, I find this camera, in order to make unusual photos in each possible lighting. I had it only during a short time period, but I took night shots, Portraitschuesse with the timer and open shots and found him, in order to have excellent quality. In the past I was only one point and kind of entry thread person however intend to find more out over the illustration which takes, now I went there digitally. I love the size. I find the smaller cameras hard to hold too on and fear would have to drop it. This fits my perfect grasp straight. I would recommend definitely this camera to the expert illustration customer as well as the beginner.

starsgood service
The service was the camera came in good condition really sealed in the box well.

starsGreat pocket-sized alternative to other Canon cameras
Whether you are an experienced DSLR owner (as I am) looking for a compact second camera or you are someone looking to upgrade from your old point-and-shoot digital camera, the Canon PowerShot SX100IS is a well designed compact camera that has a lot of rich features at a very reasonable price.

I've been using my Canon Digital Rebel (DSLR) for several years and am very pleased with it. However, I have become increasingly aware of how bulky it is, particularly when I want to go places where it's inconvenient to lug around - like going hiking. So I set out looking for a smaller pocket-sized camera that had as many features as I could find comparable to my DSLR.

Being a fan of Canon cameras I limited the field to the PowerShot G9, the PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS, and the PowerShot SX100IS, all Canon products. The G9 is promoted and priced as the best of Canon's non-DSLR cameras, although from the reviews I've read it is more appreciated for its look and feel than for its performance. It is an 12.1MP 6x optical image stabilized zoom camera that can shoot RAW images. In comparison, the SX100IS is an 8MP 10x image stabilized zoom camera that doesn't shoot RAW. (I've shot RAW using my DSLR and don't find it necessary to get great photos.) The SX100IS has almost all of the other features of the G9, is about the same size, but weighs a lot less.

The S5 IS is an 8.0MP 12x optical image stabilized zoom camera. It looks a lot like a DSLR but doesn't allow for swapping lenses, and it can't shoot in RAW. It has very similar features to the SX100IS but is considerably bulkier and weighs more.

Even though all 3 cameras live up to Canon's reputation for taking great shots, I chose the SX100IS over the G9 because it had a higher optical zoom capability, weighed a lot less and was about $200 cheaper. I chose SX100IS over the S5 IS because it is more compact and lighter, and is about $80 cheaper. (Also, the SX100IS' 10x optical zoom is pretty amazing in its own right.)

The SX100IS has almost as many features as the other 2 cameras at a considerably lower price. I particularly like the Macro setting (which allows me to take really close-ups shots of ferns and the like on my hikes), and I like the manual focus capability for when the situation is such that the auto focus won't work properly. Also, I find that the lack of a viewfinder isn't bothersome. In fact, in some instances like when I'm playing around with white balance, I can get a preview of how the exposure changes on the 2.5" LCD screen, which isn't available on my DSLR.

Since purchasing the SX100IS about a month ago, I find myself reaching for it more often than I do my DSLR. For my money and for most of my needs, this camera is superb.

starsNice overall
The camera gives me, what I wish. Good zooming function, large LCD, shot, moderate weight and volume and cool appearance fast. However the noises lie on the LCD on the hand, when another camera of my in dark place. But it pretty good worked on, if in the free one. Anyway it is a good camera for the price and I likes it much.

starsMega Zoom
I went for this camara for the zoom shot and the price and I with both was very lucky up to now. The zoom shot permits me to receive illustrations which I could not receive with my old digital with 3x. The illustration quality looks largely and surprises me even on the LCD. I already was with the other characteristics familuar, because a friend of me already possesses a Canon. In the situation its to play and attaching mode and the video mode see with its camara educated me jump on the sx100. I knew that Canon of my friend would not permit you zoom shot out during the film mode, thus I was very much impressed, when I was to both zoom shot inside and out as in that, screen on the sx100 taking. This camara serves me well with a new child on the way.

starsThe PERFECT camera! I love my SX100IS!
I just bought this camera to replace an older Sony camera (which I could never get to take good pics without editing them). Well with the Canon, no editing necessary.. Pics come out perfect every time! Nice true color (unlike Sonys), not too dark, and very sharp, crisp images. I was totally amazed that I could even see the bright LCD screen outside in the sun!! We have had many digital cameras, and this is by far the BEST we've ever owned! It is the most feature-packed camera I've ever seen. There are so many pre-defined modes I can't remember them all, but some good ones were Portrait, Kids & Pets, Nighttime, Landscape, Indoors, Snow, and even Fireworks! The face detection feature is amazing, and I also like that it shoots 16:9 widescreen pics. The menus are easy to use.. I started using this right out of the box, without even having read the manual. The 10x optical zoom is fantastic, and I just discovered the digital zoom goes all the way out to 40x! The zoom is AMAZING for such a small camera! This is not as small as other pocket-size cams, but it still fits nicely in my purse, which is important. Dimensions are about 5x3x3, making it pretty hard to find a nice case for it right now, since most other cameras these days are only about 3 in. wide and an inch thick (and I am not fond of the style of case Canon makes for this). But hopefully third parties will starting making cases for this camera. The only other thing I could wish for this camera is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack, so we don't have to buy AA's or use the short-lived Nickel Metal-Hydride (NiMh) batteries that end up developing the memory effect. Other than that, I can't say enough about this wonderful camera. You name it, the Canon PowerShot SX100IS does it!!!

starsExcellent Camera and Awsome optical zoom at this cost..unbelievable
Excellent one illustrations of a value payment camera... and features..no the disturbance... not at all with difficulty... the leader to use, that is made available, is excellent... More liked pics and the films, which are taken in my Florida, release. Only thing, which is I UNFORTUNATE, IS THIS CAMERA SOLD WITH 256 $ and it COST is 239$ now on of Amazon...:(innerhalb 15 days... Nice camera for family releases, caused fmily..., in the house and office and good for starters... the optical 10X is particularly also a premium... 16MB Sd map is a joke, which I used my 1 GB Sd I... it stored pics 350 with the resetting had, which adjusts in the automobile... I batteries to replace had 2/3 time....if you videos more to take, you needs larger 4 GB Sd card..good thing SDHC works also with the camera... EXCELLENT LUCKY

starsCanon PowerShot SX100IS
I love this camera!!! Whether the vorbehaltliche takes near or far this camera prisoner it all. To use fun is simple and. The illustrations are sharp and the colors are perfect. Canon has a real winner.

starsthe Power of the PowerShot
This is my fourth digital camera. I receive keep bored with things and must another thats one better have, but I think that this camera is around during some time. It forms, taking a large photo simply. I drove and a car led me, therefore pulled I mean camera out. I not even regarded the screen and made a photo. The car was at least 50 foot far away, which goes beyond 70mph. The photo came from large and I could zoom shot even inside, in order to see the license plate. The picture balancer was large. I will buy another of these cameras than gift for my family.

starsWorth the money.
I had other power SHOT cameras in the past, therefore I knew that I wanted to cling with Canon. Forwards I ordered this camera unite weeks, because zoom shot and maintenance board were better than my last power SHOT. I am very lucky with the quality of the photos of this camera and the ability to change attitudes in order to take black and white in such a way and am the fun to play to also. The absence of more viewfinder does not constitute, if it too through to look the screen used, while I am. Tho I bend too forgotten to raise lightning but an announcement becomes: indicated) this camera is definitely worth the money and the price is quite much by Amazon.

starsgreat camera
its pro a relatively small camera with the characteristics of the larger camera I likes, panoramische photos makes however uses it mainly on social cases the face acknowledgment characteristic informs you also that the camera is focus up, which is important to you the night characteristic actual also largely. into your bag to fit Cons few (straight few) too extensively otherwise resemble the characteristics more than the size from after it a photo made, can them straight to few take, so that them return, over for the following illustration to be ready again resemble the characteristic more than the slight retarded out consider you, a small camera bag to carry receive you itself a pair of 2G SDs and 2 extra AA reloadable batteries and your sentence for one day of videos and of silence I also the silver most recommend carry the only black. They can pay little extra for the silver however to be worth it it look better. They cannot better particularly see the camera into darker film scripts including the small stickers on the camera this can possibly seem important, to you are there and away by the camera handed over do not have someone to its so familiar with the camera.

starsGood camera - Good price.....
This camera is a canon, therefore the illustration quality is high, since more expected....Even self mode produces photos of the very high quality. I do not have really from that face querying I am still, possibly little slow........but hopeful explained, functioned well...... Controls are simple to use and all functions are simple to find... Only thing, which is not I there no histogram on the indicator screen likes, is, while making a photo shows only above.....it, when you do not repeat a photo I the idea of the light impact up lightning....its well must around the sharp ignition ensure may yourselves, if they are not wished...... I kept the camera for $235.00..it... was definitely worth it....ordered, if from Amazon for $259, plus me a reward certificate of Amazon had $25, therefore set toward to the camera too...... They must buy a coded map and batteries, and I fasten also LCD Proktoren forwards, in order to set the LCD screen.... I would recommend this camera to everyone, look for for a quality-digital camera with lots manual controls.... It is not a large camera, which is compared with a quantity other digital cameras, thus, if small size is, is important..this camera for you........

starsGreat camera, price and features
This is a large camera for pro/am tireur, which little wishes, but strong camera around. I normally shoot with a Canon marking II, sometimes therefore I am against-striving to shoot with smaller cameras but this is very much for the price and the characteristics. First away, you understand that none brings at all the quality together of a SLR... Point-and-shoot, but, to that extent point-and-shot, this is one of the better goes. The upper characteristic to me is the picture compensation up to now. Absolutely amazingly. With acceptable support I can take shots with 1/8 shutter speed and still come out with a free shot. It is as much better than, illustration quality with a higher ISO sacrificing. In second place plus is the price. Around approximately $250 the SX100IS is as well as the Canon A640 and approximately $100 less. The A640 is 10mp, zoom shot 4x and has an impact screen, but the SX100IS has zoom shot 10x to the trumpf it 8mp is everything, which you need in such a way in a camera. If you do not receive injustice to me, the A640 is a large camera, but the SX100IS is the better agreement. Everything otherwise is, which I came to expect from Canon and from more to. Much better manual controls -- the role wheel forms it more simply to change attitudes. A broad multiplicity of ISOs from 80 to 1600. Good face acknowledgment technology. The SX100IS falls below within only one range... lightning. Before I arrive at the negatives, the large thing is over lightning that it does not slam automatically above, and is the one good thing. I like this, because it is simple -- lightning down, does not fire it. Lightning above, fires it. None around herumfummeln for the sharp key, no unexpected lightning in the museum, etc.. It is general-queried much approximation. Kudos to Canon for faith that their customers are not complete idiots and that they do not need automatic lightning. Where lightning disappoints, is in the achievement. First, as usual, he concludes ueberschussenergien up on most people shots, kalktuenchen from faces. This is at least correctable, by selecting down the sharp energy into the function elections. Red eye is another problem, which always seems I, with Canon to have point-and-shoots lightnings. I do not think the red eye reduction characteristic work of all. It seems also, gives few retarded, if one uses lightning. That this is not not the case with other one, point-and-shoots, but this seems a little more longer than normal. Finally the automatic color, which processes with lightning, resembles enough not for lightning out. Pics view a little blueish. It is not too bad, but again I saw better. Thus this camera receives 4 from 5 because of the sharp expenditures, but, if you are mostly without lightning (and with this large picture compensation, you no lightning many more to shoot can), then it'd 5 from 5 to shoot.

starsGreat Digicam!
I pre-ordered this camera and paid full price because I couldn't find another camera with a similar features list at this price point. I haven't been disappointed. I've taken it on trips to San Francisco and China and it performed flawlessly. I took about 75 pictures before I had to swap the rechargable batteries I'm using (Energizer sells a nice 120/240V collapsible charger with 4 2300 mAh rechargable AAs for about $15). I haven't used all the features but made good use of the manual mode settings for night photos of the Golden Gate. I had to deal with camera shake at high zoom levels but that is a problem with any lens above 200mm.
As expected, digital noise begins to show up at ISO settings above 400. If the lighting is good the processing time is short. However, processing is a bit longer in low light conditions.
In general the controls are logically placed, the buttons are not too small, and the menus are easy to follow. I find the scroll dial on the rear a bit clumsy. Occasionally, I push too hard and make a selection by rocking the dial rather than scrolling.
I added a SanDisk 2Gig Ultra II memory card with the USB feature and highly recommend it.
I was looking for a camera that I could use in Auto when I don't have the time or desire to compose a shot but offered the option of manual controls. I found it. With the features, 8 meg resolution, and 10x optical zoom (36-360mm equivalent) this camera is only one step shy of a DSLR without the bulk.

starsJust what I was looking for
I used this camera for one month and will commentate my observations. First the zoom is great. To use functioned smoothly and is simple. I use it the whole time. The illustrations at the full optical zoom shot (10X) were clearly clearly, detailed and. The color was brightly applicable, warm and to the life. I found saying, "wows, wows, wows. I cannot believe, how largely these illustrations look ". They are superior, which I take with my Canon S2 1S. And sunny day brght, made I unites photos of a close by river and pedestrian, which at least 100 yards were distant. I used the digital zoom shot, in order to increase the illustrations 40X. They were not surprising good..again could him believe. However on a grey day this was not the case. The illustrations were pixilated and from the small quality. However the optical illustrations zoom shot of the 10X were always distinguished. Great picture compensation the system contributed largely to the quality zoomed of the illustrations. Sometimes my Canon of power SHOT Sd 1000 is a wonderful bag sorted camera however frustrated me, because it has optical only zoom shot 3X without picture compensation. The macro attitude of the SX100 IS is greatly and simple to use. The illustration quality caused more for "wows, I can not believe, as good it is." Some my most exciting illustrations in the macro attitude were. The camera is enough small to fit into my trousers bag with noticable projection although. I carried it this way for the last month, although I have a basic box for him. I wished a camera with an acceptable zoom with me on most days carry. It functions, but it is not definitely as mobile as the Canon Powershsot Sd 1000. I do not worry about increased size, because I the zoom shot dear. Up to now the unprotected LCD screen was not damaged in my bag. The screen is easily cleaned the good size, and scratches steady. The screen does not reproduce by any means the fine quality of the illustrations, as seen on a computer or, if it is printed out. The screen has few pixels as the Sd 1000 screen. This is not a problem for me. It gives no more viewfinder, but the screen works appropriately well for me in the bright daylight. The camera has a firm feeling, which I like and is relatively simply to keep constant for zoom shot shots. The battery and Sd map cover at first felt a fragile point however on repeated use seem it to work on fair fine. The film function is at best average. The low dissolution film attitude takes film of the small quality, which is not acceptable for me. At the high resolution, which adjusts the films, become gutgehiessen. They know zoom shot during a film, but it expires from the focus. If I wish up an end to film shot, zoom shot I first into the camera mode and then switches to the film mode and shot the film. The results become gutgehiessen. My Canon S2 1S zoom shots when shooting a film, which I like. I did not use manual controls, therefore I cannot commentate her. I have use the programmed shooting modes for evening and the inside, who shoot etc. and her, work on fair fine. This is a large camera although not perfectly. For me the illustration quality is it is largest value. It is a pleasure to give it an evaluation with 5 stars.

starsAmazing camera, perfect middle-ground between P&S and DSLR
My wife bought straight this camera after the much-bought around. I use a Nikon D70, which uses her also on occassion, and a Fuji F20 had waived her before, in order to also play, when I did the "serious" photography. After months with the F20, it wished somewhat more, but did not wish not the size and the weight of another DSLR. This camera is perfect for their necessities. It offers large manual controls, more simply as if each possible other camera, below the DSLR levels are to be used on. Shutter speed and -blendenoeffnung are limited, naturally however you receive sufficient liberty, around depth from to steer catch, and which is, which really constitutes (with a sensor, you need this small not nothing beyond F8.0, because everything already is in the focus and F2.8 is to produce far enough an acceptable quantity bokeh.) ISO extend are large and simple to adjust as uses. Manual focus is good. I was surprised to find this enclosed, but boy can differentiate between it. On one of my test shots, the camera could concentrate not on the article, which I near at the objective (for examine-deep of you catch) on had set, but with manual focus I received right to him, in which I wished it. Automatic one is in the bright light adequately, naturally however manual focus is handy, if you shoot in the low light. The only downward arranged to this camera, compared with the other regarded we, are the use of the AA batteries. We have rechargeables, naturally however I much rather a small loading unit along on journeys as a sentence of carrion and of large AA loading unit would take. To see can, I give some admits photos, after soon so which is too capable of of people this camera. I would recommend it to everyone, which looks for more control over its photos, without the expenses and the controversy of transporting a DSLR. UPDATE: Another important to notice thing and this can be a located problem..., if the batteries, those run out, the objective are left, not completely to withdraw. It remains itself opens half, until new batteries are attached and the energy key is again operated. This can be because of the specific reloadable batteries, which we used, or it could be a problem with this a camera. But it is important to have spare substitution of batteries on the basis always.

starsGreat combination of capability and ease of use
PER: Large controls, which are to be used simply, the Leichtgewichtler, to use simple and not at all, intimidating as many more expensive "advanced, point and shooting" cameras. CONS: Despite the quality there is any considerable illustration of "noises" at highest resolutions. This is a small expenditure, there it in a camera to be expected is cheap this. I bought this camera, which yesterday on reports of this camera and similar cameras, which I was based, here on Amazon found, but I believed that this model did not have sufficient reports to go for it. First of all, the SX100 is a good size and controls is simple to use particularly if they are compared with similar cameras "in the advanced point and entry thread" category. While the camera is rather large, if it is compared with newer "smooth" cameras, which are so popular at the moment, if I compare this camera with the Canon of power SHOT A40, which I replace, she is a little smaller and MUCH brighter. In addition if you compare the size of this camera with models upper end Canon and cameras of the competitor in the same segment, the SX100 is quite smaller a little. Controls are firmly distinguished, clear -, and very logically. I doubt that everyone has difficulty to explain from all fundamental functions of the camera. Controls are one of the best aspects of this camera. The competitive cameras, which I tried, had a quantity of keys and them schuechterten in. I am sure the fact that I would out also represent those, but I may use the idea of the Koennens a camera in 30 seconds (more simply to explain to the people pics for me, my friend, etc. takes). The coating property works rather well, but like all camera recorders external is requested mic, in order to receive half acceptable clay/tone. Still for the money, it is a large added characteristic. If the zoom shot characteristic goes, it is firm. 10x is not enough for me (I white not, what would be), but it is quite a little better than most digital cameras on the market. It was enough to receive to an acceptable illustration of a person who stands over 60 foot far away. It should work for my purpose of taking the acceptable photos on sporting cases well. If I had to form an objection, it would be that there is something "noises", which are present at highest resolutions. It is quite a little, which is better 5MP than a more inexpensive camera, which I used in the past, but she does not compare with the image quality of a SLR. This is simple a small objection, because most cameras in this segment (and for this price) have something illustration of noises. In order to sum up it above, I would recommend this camera to everyone, which searches to one point of quality and whom the characteristics of a SLR do not shoot necessarily or wishes. If you are really interested in the total control, lots keys, a "shoe" in external lightning of the assembly, mic, etc., this is not your camera. For everyone otherwise who straight photos to make would like, goes you for it. It is very much

starsLight, pretty and useful
I already have a SLR digital Rebel, but it is too big to carry to some places. So I was looking for something small, light and with enough features to keep me, a SLR buff, interested.

My wife wanted a sleeker, colorful and tiny camera. I felt that we needed a more jack of all trades model. So I looked for a good optical zoom (10x), and as much manual features as possible. I ended up with three cameras: a Sony, a Canon and a Panasonic. It didn't take much testing to see that Canon was superior in every aspect.

The menus are simpler than Sony's. The physical buttons are better placed and bigger than Panasonic's. The only thing that I will miss is to have wider lens. Both Sony and Panasonic have wider angles, good for that classic auto-photo with your friends in a club.

Other than that... My god. This camera is amazing. I didn't need the manual to figure the commands out. Everything is where it is supposed to be. You just navigate and the commands just appear in context of what you are selecting. So, if you are in full auto, you won't find controls for Manual Focus and flash. But if you change to other programs, these options are there.

The manual commands are great. The manual focus is almost perfect and the ISO options work perfectly. I prefer the way they built the flash: it does not open automatically when the camera needs it. It asks you to open. I hate when the flashes keep popping and opening without my consent. And also it is one more feature to break somewhere down the line. I like the idea of just opening the flash myself.

In the end. It is a little bigger than the models my wife wanted, but being an amateur photographer herself she didn't need much time to see that, for a few fractions of inches more, we had a better deal.

Oh. I almost forgot. The biggest problem, really, is the downtime between shots. These cameras need to be faster. It makes me crazy when I need to take a shot and I just have to wait while the microprocessor is working. Come on, guys. You can make it better.

Other than the speed issues... Great package. Amazing colors and lens. Almost perfect camera.

starsGreat camera, despite noisy ISO's.
I received this camera last week straight, but I had spent like 3 months cameras investigating on the InterNet. I really wished the Canon G9, but I could not carry it for me out. I already made tons of photos. The zoom shot is wonderful, like the illustration quality with lower ISOs. I may adjust the white balance and the colors in the situation its, the aperature, the shutter speed. It really permits some creative photos. It lasts me when however to find over the best attitudes manually and so I and up missing spur of the moment shots. I wish that it had a "high sensitivity" attitude for fast illustrations. The illustration quality with higher ISOs dissapointing quite, also. But thats standard with non SLR cameras in this price distance. Its probably really one of the better, its fair, which is not yet very good ' better '. The ISO button are definately A plus, like the sheet wheel. I did not think, which would constitute much, but I like it really. I heard that the film quality dissapointing, but I has it not out still tried. All in all, I like really the camera, which the illustrations her look very artistically and are cleanly amazing.

starsGood choice
I received this camera today. First I am over the price, the silver model its price by 20 $ for Friday dropped, if I ordered him (and back then, the black one was more inexpensive) curiously. I possess already a Canon of power SHOT S3 ARE and I are a fan of the Canon cameras, therefore I wanted to buy another Canon. I looked for something, more simply am to be used, connect more and lighter than the S3. I studied the Canon cameras, read and accounted for a quantity of reports for a A550, but I was not very safe. I discovered the SX due to errors, when visiting a electronics memory. I was surprised, compared by the clarity pics and the ease with the S3. And the zoom shot... is really hard it to give to a 12x optical zoom shot above like that that the S3 has and this quality of pictures. But the SX was a good choice. Reports criticized generally the inacceptable noises at 1600 and the bad film quality. I agree over the ISO 1600, but films seemed rather nice and the illustrations are even compared with the S3 good, although night is not SXs best friend. I recommend to feel the SX100 for those, which wish somewhat more than one A camera, but may not not extensive a S3 and need mobile something and more friendly users. Otherwise you go buying a S3 or a S5, are better their quality in pics and the price are nearly the same. All in all, I am lucky with my small SX and thank Amazon for the order. 4 stars of me - because night and ISO are bad 1600 and reaching for the USB is not very simple gate

starsLove it!
I bought this to replace an old Canon Powershot. So far I like what I see. The pictures are very clear and the settings are easy to use. I love the zoom capability.

starsViewfinder Schmoofinder
You can ignore any review of a point and shoot camera based entirely on the presence or lack of a viewfinder. There are plenty of cameras with viewfinders and plenty of them without. If you really want a high end Canon with a viewfinder, stop reading and go look at the G9, the S5IS, or the A650. Most people who shoot with this type of camera don't even use them, and for people with strong glasses prescription, like myself, they are so small they are absolutely useless. With a P&S viewfinder, you don't even get the true picture. What's actually going on the sensor is what's on the LCD. The new models are so bright you can see them in almost any light. Most even have way to boost the display if needed. Viewfinders are a nice feature but only one of many.

I have tried out this camera in stores and plan to buy one. The scroll wheel makes it very easy to adjust settings, like to change ISO for example. Ergonomically, it's large and curvy, like a mango, very comfortable to hold, even if you have big hands. The buttons are big and in the right places. It isn't small enough for a shirt pocket, but it is still quite portable. It has a large sensor, which means those pixels are bigger and hold more color information, giving you better pictures. My only gripe is that it doesn't start at 28mm (wide angle); that's not a deal killer, but for indoor, family shooting, I'd prefer Wide to 8x over Normal to 10x. Most people would take 10x over Wide. Teens and Twens looking something sleek & sexy to take clubbing, this isn't it; the SX100 is sensible shoes in a stylish world.

I highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants a easy to use point & shoot that takes great pictures; to anyone who wants a P&S than can do manual/aperture/shutter priority but can live without RAW; to anyone with a touch of arthritis/carpal tunnel or anything else than makes gripping and manual dexterity a challenge; and to those who really want a G9 but can't justify the extra $200.

starsI love this camera
I bought this camera last week and I have to take over 200 photos and a pair from films to. This camera is for approx. like me largely, who wishes the point and the entry thread elections and attitudes, but likes still in the manual world and in the play with doing it plantschen. I used this camera, in order to shoot illustrations of my niece at the park, at the aquarium and on one carousal. The face acknowledgment illustration, which and the picture centers characteristic stablization, is large and takes the liberty to also take pictures prisoner from smearing. The aquarium illustrations were amazing, with very free detail and perfect lighting. The films were also from shaking clear and the clay/tone were pretty good. I like also that this camera permits me to use 2 AA batteries of each possible mark if I keep clung from any energy also somewhere.

starsBest camera I've owned
I love this camera. My fiancé and I bought this as a great camera to have around since my old camera took really blurry pictures. It was a great investment. It takes great pictures and has an excellent shutter speed for a digital camera. It's really nice because we have a young kitten who runs around a lot. I would definitely suggest this camera to anyone I knew was buying a camera.

starsNice All Around P&S
I bought the SX100 as an everyday camera so I wouldn't have to lug around my Canon 30D DSLR. I've had it for a week now and it takes very decent pictures for a P&S. I haven't used a P&S in a couple of years since buying my my DSLR so it took some getting used to.
I took a couple of shots yesterday of my daughter and while it doesn't have the clarity of a DSLR (obviously) I got some very nice shots with really nice, sharp eyes.

My only gripe so far is that I wish it had a viewfinder. That may not be an issue if you're used to P&S cameras without one but I find myself putting the camera up to my face like I do my 30D.
