Good pictures but battery life is atrocious!
This bought, because all Raveberichte, which I read here over the Canon SX100IS! First the good things: The few photos, which I geschauen made large and which was zoom shot wonderfully. Like a charm one works, after I shook to even cause the camera on purpose, one blurry for illustration TO ATTEMPTS and, but could not! Now the reasons returned I it: I hated the "wheel" on the back of the camera. When trying, it to spiders will I always up it and otherwise end above, overall construction errors somewhere click to terminate! I hated feel from him. It felt like inexpensive plastics and did not feel strong in my hands. Believed always like it out-slipped! But the reason, which I returned it, was because of the battery life or the lack there on. I used the batteries, which came with him all of approximately 45 minutes. I replaced him then with RH-CHARGABLE, which came with the "additional sentence", the that, which I bought from Amazon and received approximately 5-6 minutes with those. Set the other sentence inside and received only 2-3 minutes with those! A brand-new pair lithium AA went buying and received only 20-25 minutes with those. WHICH PROPERTY a CAMERA IS, IF IT not PHOTO MAKING ABILITY!!! Not acceptably. I returned to of Amazon my rueckerstattung expecting! Final result: This camera felt cheap and not strong in my hands. The battery life was not acceptable a joke and.


Great Camera at a Great Value
I upgraded from the Canon Powershot S3 looking to benefit from the slimmer form factor so I can put it in my pocket for hiking, backpacking, and stadium events. For general photography, I would rely on my Nikon D80. Under low light condition, indoor and especially in stadium shows, I was really impressed with the camera's performance and stunning image quality even at the maximum 10x optical zoom. I was able to capture moving subjects in Auto mode in low light condition a good 90 percent of the time. This is impressive for a point-and-shoot camera and I would be even more impress if the flash recharge time can be reduce from the 7 to 8 seconds delay. I've tested the macro feature as well and find it very impressive.

I like the large 2.5 LCD display which makes composing and viewing results so much more enjoyable. The video quality is amazing, yes even for indoor shows. I also like the zoom control position conveniently right next to the shutter but it could be more accurate. I think the amazing attractive price point makes it truly a compelling buy. The only aspect that I don't like is the part that everyone else has pointed out, that is, the memory card is in the battery compartment now. That is just a warp design, so I have to resort to transfering pictures using the provided USB cable instead of taking out the memory card. Canon deserves to get ding on that point, but it's not too burdensome to use the cable instead.

Overall, I am very happy with the camera and will definitely recommend it.


Killer Camera!!
Cannot enough about this small gizmo really say. Everything, which we wished, was a relatively nice point and an entry thread, but terminates above as much with more! I improved to the Canon SX100IS of an old Olymp. I liked the Olymp, but love the Canon. I regarded the ELPH row after its compact size, but was disappointed over their lean zoom shot. I decided to have been let and impressed go the thin Design for a better objective each step of the way!! I mostly took photos on the self-adjustment, in addition, with the speciality attitudes i.e. night shot, beach, snow, etc. confuses. Taken one numerous films, inward and out. Everything failed way better than expected. Delete as bell. I got caught a photo of a Kojoten on the north coast deceptions of sank Cruz at estimated 50 yards with the digital zoom shot 40X and could not to mine eyes at the image quality believe. Definitely like manual lightning - was not, if I became, but determined surely, straight as frequently I lightning on our old camera to turn off had, in order to receive an acceptable shot. Picture compensation the system seems to work very well. The face acknowledgment system is large also... simple to turn off if you do not wish it. Great Camera

I couldn't decide between the canon powershot sx100 or the fuji finepix s700.
The last couple of cameras we had were just basic point and shoot,and I wanted a camera that had more features and optical zoom.
Ended up going with the canon, I've had it for about a month now, and haven't had any problems with it so far.
The batteries that came with it were regular alkaline and didn't last long at all. Rechargeable batteries last longer,and you can use them over and over. I found it's best to take an extra set along if you plan to go anywhere.
The Memory card that comes with it holds anywhere from 3 to 52 pictures depending on the number of recording pixels. Taking video seems to use a lot of space up. So it could use a bigger memory card than the one that it comes with, but I haven't found it necessary.
The zoom seems to be good, but this is my first camera with this much zoom and settings. It does get more grainy/blurry once you get into the digital zoom (past 10x optical.)
Occasionally it hasn't done the best in low light, but is usually fixed by raising the flash or changing the settings. Some of the best photos I've taken are in the manual setting.
I've also used it to get photos of backyard birds and it sure beats the point and shooters I've used even with binoculars hooked to them.
Overall its a great camera.


#1 in a league of its own
You will not be able to put this camera in your shirt pocket. It does not come with the tastefully designed case you get with the Digital Elph - actually, it comes with no case at all - but, unlike digital SRLs, it will not cause a permanent spine damage, while still providing a pletora of manual options. The sharpness and color rendition are fine for my unprofessional eye, and among its features I really like the ability to "downgrade" an already taken shot to a lower resolution; saves space while giving you an option of still keeping this "not so great, but..." picture.
My major concern was the batteries: how many should I carry? I started with two Energizer Li batteries, which I get cheaply in bulk at the Sam's Club. After a week of vacation and more than 300 shots on highest resolution/largest size, many taken with flash, I still didn't need to change batteries! This leaves my Canon rechargable battery pack unused and unopened.
"Facial recognition" works great if faces are big enough and subjects are directly facing camera. I use it to see whether anyone's eyes are closed on the picture - it's much faster than usual scrolling and zooming.
Macro mode works great - so much better than in smaller Cannon cameras!
Image stabilization: I did not notice much effect of it, especially with higher zoom, but I didn't test it specifically.
To me, this camera is a great transition from the credit card-sized point-and-shoot-and-email-it cameras to something different, which might eventually help me to make prints worth hanging on the wall.

Great camera. Low light photos are not as bad as specs and prof. reviews have made it out to be; they are actually pretty good, considering the price range and portability of this camera. Love the battery option, since i plan on taking this hiking and on camping trips, where i wont be close to a power outlet or adapter. Every time i take some shots I remember how much I paid with a smile, feeling i got every pennies worth out of this thing.

Excellent camera. Have owned 5 powershots. Love that they take regular AA batteries. Got this one for the extra zoom capability. Small yet not so compact it is hard to handle. Just right!

Great Camera
I love my camera, and after my other canon was stolen from my suitcase, I was glad to purchase another. I just miss the swivel function prior to this one, but the zoom is out of sight! The picture quality is outstanding. The only problem is that some pictures taken at night in low light do not always come out so great, but others are quite nice. It just depends. Overall great camera- not super slim, but for those who love to take pics- the size is very doable. It's no wonder consumer reports ranked it #1.


Great little Canon with a 10x zoom!
I wasn't sure I could get used to a camera without a viewfinder. But I am, and I love this little Canon. The 10x zoom is great for the small-ish size of the camera.
I've been using a bigger size digital with a zoom lens attached, and I wanted a small camera that I could just throw in my purse. I didn't expect the quality of the photos to be as good as they are. I never thought I would use the video feature, but the other day when we had a little snow flurry (it never snows here), I turned on the video feature when driving down the road (my husband was doing the driving, I was using the camera) and caught a great video of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen and it was beautiful! This Canon is so much fun!!

Excellent Camera
I wished a camera, which had a zoom shot 10x, which was established into it. I wanted to replace my Canon of power SHOT A70, which a small LCD announcement and an external lense for zoom shot had. It seemed that, when I needed a zoom shot I did not have the lense with me. I investigated the different Canon of power SHOT cameras and went to a camera memory seeing that they recommended the SX100IS camera in the person and in the salesman. It is the same size as my old Canon camera however lighter, which only needs for 2 batteries, it run to let is suitable. I can still use my loading unit and have two extra batteries, if I need her. I love the 2,5 tariff LCD screen and do not miss not more viewfinder. Fit into a smaller case thus me can travel more simply with it. To use is simple and I likes the characteristic of the pop UP of lightning and the picture balancer. An excellent choice for me and me saved money, by buying it from Amazon!

I'm from Chile and its the first time I buy through Amazon. I choose this camera and once I get it, I can only say that's all what I expected!!! I was afraid about the weight, but its very confortable to carry. The zoom is really awesome.

Great camera
I have been greatly impressed with the Canon SX10909IS. The pitchers are sharp and clear, the image stabilization works well and the 10X optical zoom has been great for getting those close up shorts. Even the 40X digital zoom had given me great looking pitchers compared to any other digital zoom I have used even when they were only a 15X digital zoom. The quick and easy adjustment of the f stop helped create great sunset views. The only negative I have found was taking pitchers in dim light when I couldn't use a flash or the subject was too far away for a flash, such as city lights at night. I am sure with a little more experience with the camera and by adjusting the shutter speed I might be able to correct that problem. Overall the best digital camera I have used or owned.


canon super easy camera
I have owned a series of cameras over the last 40 years. In my earlier years, I was a professional photographer. Now I just want to take record shots of my grandchildren and my travels. The Canon SX 100 is an easy camera to operate (without even looking at the manual) and the picture quality is outstanding. With the 4 GB memory card in place, I can shoot hundreds of pictures without transfering them to my computer.

The camera is good, but when you use it in a frozon weather, the batteries (AA) are dead, much less performance compare to lithium battery design.

Excellent choice
I looked for 10x for a new camera, which was smaller, had at least zoom shot and used AA batteries. This camera met finally those conditions. I was not disappointed over this acquisition. I was with the worked on way Canon cameras trust and this was fair so simple to be used, as those, which I had bought before for friends as gifts. great zoom, but that's about all
I returned the camera and here's why:
1) the battery power is AWFUL. It takes 2AA and I had to change the batteries 5 times during the course of a few days and all I was really doing was testing the camera out. I imagine that if I were to take the camera with me somewhere were I wanted to actually use it I would need at least 2 or 3 sets of extra batteries. It was quite surprising actually.
2) The time between shots is way too long. Depending on the battery life which was usually low, it took over 4-6 seconds between shots when the flash was enabled.
3) The AF-assist/red-eye reduction light was blinding (when flash is enabled). I took pictures of my family members and they said the light was way too bright and that maybe something is wrong with the camera.

So for those reasons I returned the SX100 IS and bought a G9 which I am very happy with.


Great little camera!
Spent LOADS of time researching the newest digital cameras. Settled on this one due to the balance offering of 10x zoom (who's image stabilizers REALLY do work!), 8mp, face detection, video capabilities, ample shooting programs (kids and pets, snow, night snapshot, and stitch assist), all at a reasonable price. I have a Sony handycam that gives me much grief (has 20x zoom and an image stabilizer that deteriorates significantly at it's maximum usage).

Other nice-to-have features on this camera is the camera orientation detection which means it automatically adjusts (re-orients) itself when you want to take taller shots (turning the camera on it's side). In addition to face detection, there is also the face selector which lets you pick a primary face to focus on. Image depth and clarity is amazing at 8mp, provides pictures that more true-to-life and perfect for cropping or enlarging.

Canon's non-proprietary output formats (.JPEG picture format and .AVI video formats) are highly compatiable with every video editing software available, which unlike some Sony products (.VOB video file formats), makes using this camera and it's outputs easy, affordable, flexible, and just plain fun!

My only "gripe" is the memory, which is really two fold (1)that Canon doesn't offer internal backup memory...all images are stored on the meager 16mb memory card (included in the purchase) and (2)that Canon couldn't afford to offer at least a 1GB memory card included with purchase. The 16mb only holds 3-4 images (depending on your subject complexity). I plan to maximize this little camera's capabilities, not just for still images but for video as well, so I've opted for the maximum available memory of the new 16GB SDHC Class 6 memory card. At the very least, one will need to purchase at least a 1GB, otherwise you will need to stay close to your computer to clean your card after every 4 shots.

Overall, the camera is super easy to use (both on the front end and on the back end) and when one wants to take spur-of-the-moment shots, this camera is johnny-on-the-spot. Would recommend this camera with the caveat that the purchaser will absolutely need to know the total cost includes the additional purchase of a more substantial memory card.




Good Camera
I became up the purchase of this for me for Christmas and in the morning finished, which are very lucky with him. I wished something with a good optical zoom shot. I hated, as most cameras could not receive an end above. This camera, first all good views, but in second place of all work pour out. The reaction time is from fast, if you press the key and if really the photo makes it. The batteries last quite long also. The last camera had I the batteries was dead after 5 minutes. The batteries, which came with the camera, lasted by the Weihnachtszeit, if everyone plays with it. Fact, the camera is thus good, my sister and its married man will also go to purchase of one!


Picture Perfect
I am not a professional photographer with any means, but when, looking for a camera with a high ISO, around photos of the constantly mobile children found to make, I this small number. It was more inexpensive on Amazon as in any of the electronic memory of the large box, and I could not be luckier with my acquisition!

The SX100IS is an excellent camera. Mine fiancé was interested, on, to buy a Canon digitally to Aufruehrer but, since we were without a camera during quite some time, we decided, to begin with something which before we to the speed with a more professional exemplary is simpler, rose. The achievement of the SX100IS was the outstanding, excellent picture compensation, which is even in the low light, conditionally and at home, is not the illustrations not blurry (they can be a little darkly however not blurry). The fact that lightning is only, if it is raised manually one of the best values of the camera works! None more necessity to fight against the annoying bang from lightning! I must also mention that the camera lasted a bad case; it was dropped unintentionally by relatives close. Since I had before possessed a camera, which a similar fate and stopped work thereafter suffered, I was afraid that this camera would suffer the same consequences after the case. However to my surprise, the camera held, without working errors! The video quality is very good, with clay/tone, and you know zoom shot inside and zoom shot out during the admission. The macro works on large as well as manual controls. The camera is enough flexible to use it as point and shooting, as well as a professional camera. The zoom shot is faultless and even on the maximum zoom shot levels, which turn out the illustrations without Unschaerfen! The digital zoom shot can away of the probabilities of receiving the granular illustrations therefore lower to be turned. I could also, to a list of the good material to go to hold! Great Camera!
I really enjoy this camera! To be honest, I am a novice at digital cameras' but this camera takes great shots and is easy to use. My previous camera was a Canon A-1, and this one has similar shooting modes. It does seem to go through batteries but I consider this to be a minor issue.

We got this camera because we're about to have a baby and wanted a great camera that's almost like SLR camera but easy enough that strangers can take pictures for us. This camera satisfies that! It allows me to control the aperature so I can have a blurred background and create professional pictures.


What a fantastic camera
I love mean new Canon real energy shot XS100IS. It makes wonderful photos. To use is simple, but some the written instructions are to be followed hard. I love the way, which you can make for photos, without using lightning. To touch is very simple when making the photos. I have Arthritis in my thumbs and form of this camera am a benediction. I was surely that I ordered, it in the silver however it in the black one... OH- well, I would not like any more shipping pays received. I recommend in high of degrees this camera to everyone, which looks for high quality camera for a good price for.


I love it!!!!!!!!!
This is my 3rd and best "Point & Shoot" so far. Last one was a Cannon A560. Like most, it was fine outdoors, but gave poor results indoors or under artificial lighting. I am not a "Camera Geek" so just have to go by quality and this model produces awesome pix without tweaking. I am just now studying the manual and learning all sorts of things to play around with. Did a short video of the cat & dog and it came out great. Very easy camera to use. My first point & shoot was an Olympus Camedia which was only a 3 Meg. & 3 optical. Awesome camera but wanted something smaller. I was disappointed in the smaller Cannon A560. The Olympus took sharper pictures. I download into the CP and usually print my own. I seem to get better pix out of the larger cameras.....especially since we travel a lot and need the zoom. I will leave the pocket size cameras to the kids that don't seem to care about the optical. I am taking this one to Tahiti. Oh, battery life is good, but if you want to take movies need a lot more media card space. Think you get about 1 hr. on a 2GB card. I have also always used rechargeable batteries in all of my cameras so no problem there. Anyway, I would recommend this camera based on the price & performance combination in this category of cameras.



It's a good camera, but the color of the pic is a little light.
Good Digital Camera with 8MP and 10x Optical Zoom. These are the main reasons for me to choose this product. And secondly, I like it which use AA batteries, that will allow me to take the camera outside for a short trip, and don't need to take battery charge, and I don't need to consider to buy a new battery for swithover. But this picture when I export from this camera to my computer, I found the color is a little light, not brilliant and not richly colored enough. The quality(definition) is clear enough, but when u get the picture on night, u will found the noise on the picture. That's all of what I found when I use it, but I should say at last, it a good choice for a beginer, whom want the camera can cover more functions.


I just got this camera for Christmas, great colors, slow shooting
I received straight this camera for Christmas. It makes wonderful in the free photo with clear colors. Interior illustrations are good, but straight do not expect to cause your enkelkinder still, to long itself to sit for it enough in order to warm up, in order to make a second photo. It takes too long warming up to way, before you can receive others shot. Forwards you win costs $299 four weeks, but I noted in today's ADS that this camera for Unter$200 sells now here. If you do not need, fast photos to make then, is this large camera!


Great Zoom abilities
I just bought this camera and brought it on a ski trip to Big Sky MT. It takes very little time to learn the different settings on this camera. The Zoom on this camera is great. I was able to get sharp pictures on the slopes from very far away. When in continues mode you can blast away pictures during the action. I love this camera and would recomend it to anyone.

Great pictures, but you better have extra batteries!!!
I bought this camera for my wife at Christmas, because she wished the picture compensation characteristic on the new digital cameras. We overjoyed with the quality of the illustrations and that that whole really tidy features(if were, which we lasted the time to learn how one it all! used). The only fall to this camera is the battery life. THEY ABILITY regular AA batteries ABSOLUTE do not use, otherwise one you spend sufficient money on family a case, in order to buy 2 of these cameras! If you think of the purchase of this camera, which is absolute it the best agreement, it is you the objective to change would like. However you are safe to invest into rechargable batteries!


Son loved it
I love powershots (an older version has me, as my whole did not disappoint kids)and, this camera. Although I did not receive to use it since it was a weihnachtsgeschenk, my son explained me that it makes outstanding photos! He loves the 10X stabalized zoom shot characteristic. The 8MP does not hurt not also;) Be recommended in high of degrees


Conon SX100IS
I received this camera for Christmas 2007. I love the simplicity of it. I am one point and shoot kind illustration of the customer. But it has a very large menu for those, which would like to have more control. I like particularly the optical zoom shot 30X. I take a quantity of photos of the enkelkinder and, which are able, in the morning to be with difficulty accessible however a large close-up to still receive. Mine "fraudulent" is only the fact that she does not have a Ansichtsucher. I like the stability of standing still the camera against my cheek. All pics exist with the digital window, although I must say that this is a good size and is simple with that face acknowledgment characteristic to use.


A very solid camera
Well, I got this camera as a gift in early December, and I must say I am very pleased with its performance. It is one heck of a camera. Its a great medium range camera because a beginner in photography can use it, and it was great manual control for more advanced photographers. It takes very good pictures and is a lot of fun to use. Also, its 10X zoom is marvelous and allows you to get close and personal from far away, making it useful for concerts or other such performances.

Pros:
-Good shutter lag(when first auto focusing, then taking the photo)
-Good, bright flash
-Large, visible LCD screen.
-Excellent zoom
-Aperture, shutter speed and manual focus controls allow for excellent control over the camera for more serious photographers
-has excellent batter life and is nice and easy to hold

Cons:
-Slow flash recycle
-Only comes with a 16MB sD card.

Overall, this is an excellent camera, but buy a good set of rechargeable AA batteries, and a bigger sD card to go along with it. It is a great buy for the money and is made by a reputable and high quality company


I Love This Camera!
After I had used an older exemplary digital for three or four years, I finally decided to raise a notch. I did a quantity of research on-line and accounted for on this Canon. It is wonderful! There are thus many things, which it can do that I never am in that, to remember it all but for which I wish -- a camera, which takes the good, sharp photos -- it am perfect. Price was rather much good, delivery request,!


Very Happy
I bought a power SHOT A570, over an old A510 to replace and had to send back it. It had full manual controls, which I liked, and it made pretty good photos, but the building quality was terrible. The zoom shot was jerky and it straight believed or did not sound not like a very healthy camera. This SX100 is however another history. It is firm, is smooth the zoom shot, how can be and the LCD is many clearer than the A570. Plus illustration the quality seems even a little more better. My only objection is, if you screw a stand verge to the camera, which covers them the battery cover. I use nearly always stand and I store my camera with the batteries not in it so, if I liked to take her, out, which I must eliminate the stand verge also. But this is relatively small and I is sure that I can keep used for him. During it certainly sufficient manual has controls, by the specialist to be used uses most people it probably straight as point and entry thread somehow, therefore this much an expenditure would not be. If you of going with the A570 to think and you it perhaps to swing be able, I would be recommended spending the extra money on the SX100. The compromise, which you receive in the quality, is worth it. Most retailers receive $300 for him, but I bought my from Adorama for plus shipping $235. Amazon does not seem to have it in stock at the moment.


Great camera for the everyday joe
I was needing a camera with good zoom and very easy to use. I had the Kodak Z740, but images came back blurry, especially in low light situations. I would try the different settings and even obtained help from their tech line. I could not count on good pictures

After shopping around and looking at different camera reviews, I selected the SX100IS. First thing I did was try taking shots inside, outside, bright light, low light, during a snowstorm - both at regular and full zoom...wow, the pictures came back great. I picked up a card reader so I could just download the pictures quickly and not need to load up my computer with all sorts of software.

I just want to take good pictures without the technical effort, this camera has enabled me to do so. The only drawback is the usage of regular batteries, but you could probably get your own rechargable. As you can tell, I am not a camera whiz, I just wanted something that is easy to use and delivers great pictures. This camera is it.


Powerful Powershot Camera
I am a dedicated Flickr member and family photographer. I have a bulky Canon DSLR that's getting old. I bought this camera to complement my DSLR because it has features that my old camera does not have, like video, face detect autofocus, and compactness. I love the video because often all I want is a short clip.

I am impressed with the camera. It is packed with features. On the upside, it can manual focus (I was surprised) and do many other things that my DSLR can do. While most features are easy to use, on the downside, I spent some hours reading the thick manual to determine how to do uncommon things like lock the autofocus and exposure. The manual is quite excellent, so I found out what I needed to know. It just took some time.

As compared to an old Canon DSLR, I found the following pros and cons.

More con's than Pro's
Digitally camera with optical picture stabilized zoom shot 10x (silver) I bought this camera to Canon of power SHOT SX100IS 8MP, by looking into the positive reports, which had every other place of assembly. Are here the problems - this has a straight appropriate illustration quality. But this precipitates strictly in the weak light. Believe me, my Nikon coolpix 3200 are far better in the weak light. I compared also the shots with Kodak ZD 710 and Kodak am the miles, which are better 100 than SX. - the color distinction is very bad. A blue article in the low light looks like a black article. I tried with all possible night attitudes. But nothing unfortunately worked. - camera accomplishes superiors, when others in the focusing expressed, while it and clarity zoomed of the photos zoomed - which are sharp reloading time of 4-5 sec. not acceptably - the only advantages better are, which are I battery life views see to be to acceptable and this camera needs not an objective cap and loses ' relatively ' contract I 10% the filling up fee on return, silence are I it would prefer to return this.


Canon Powershot sx100
This camera is awesome. This is a great camera for someone who wants to start out just amimming and shooting but also wants features of a 35 mmSLR in the future. It can take the novice photographer to higher creative levels when they are ready to move on to bigger and better things. It is very user friendly, has great features to play with or just aim and shoot in auto mode. Either way you will get great pictures.


Very slow camera..Not impressed with picture quality as well
I used Canon A610, before I bought this camera and was extremely fulfilled. I thought of the high classification to any advanced camera and bought SX100 AM however in the morning, which are not impressed at all. It has a very slow period of reply between shots. Illustration quality is not also very impressive. Another problem is its lightning. It has pop UP lightning, the necessities to be out manually poped. There is large chaces, which you would solve it to slam foret out and precious shots..huh! I return this camera.


Great Camera with really good zoom
I redeemed this camera one month and I totally with it am impressed. Photo quality is large, IS real the nice work and video mode works also shining. Its handly bag camera and view really nicely. It has only an impairment and a those is to prepare time sharply. Its high point, but cannot still be a bad agreement. In the low light it functions really good and night mode photo being really freely. Over battery pair rechangable batteries and it would work on acquisition nice. It ever better to hold helping out batteries. Entire really nice camera and entirely quite much!!


Great, user friendly camera, even makes movies
This is an excellent camera for the money. We were previously using a Canon PowerShot S30 (3.2 MP) for many years, and it was time for a new one. Of course, considering our old camera, any modern camera would be an improvement, but this one in particular is fantastic for many reasons. I have large hands, and hate the puny "cigarette pack" cameras with the tiny buttons. This one is large and the side grip (on the right side of the camera while holding it) is very comfortable and secure - even though it has a wrist strap I know I'll never drop it. Add to that that I've taken several photos and movies with it without even opening the instruction manual, I'm very happy with it. I believe after reading the manual I'll be able to do almost anything with it. Perfect camera for the casual, "point and click" user.

More pluses: Uses AA batteries (I use rechargeables but you could use ordinary batteries if you get stuck on a trip for example), takes SD memory cards (very common, all modern PCs, printers, and even some TVs use them), takes great digital mini-movies (about 100meg per minute, with a large SD card you can take respectable home movies)

On the minus side, obviously this is intended for the casual/novice user, makes a great family camera, but of course if you're a pro you'll want something more (and probably wouldn't be reading this anyway). It doesn't have a viewfinder, but I certainly don't miss it, the screen is large and bright. Also, if you're looking to put this into your pocket, it won't fit, so you'll need a small camera bag.

The only real problem I had with this was when I made a movie of my son's ninth birthday party, the candles caused an odd reflection in the movie - probably something to do with the lens. He ended up with 9 little dots around his face, even though the cake was in front of him. Not a real big deal, it came out kind of cool.

Bottom line: Strongly recommended for family use or if you're looking for a great value for the money. Having owned a Canon before this new one is great and I know I'll buy Canon again when it's time to replace this camera. Recommend going to a "brick and mortar" store and trying it out, then come back and buy it on Amazon - their price cannot be beat! And with super-saver shipping, it got here in 3 days!


Canon SX100
The camera takes exceptionally good and clear pictures. The 10X zoom comes in very handy. The camera feels sturdy and I havent had any problems with the scroll wheel, which i have read about in some other reviews of the product. But night time photography reduces the shot-to-shot time horrendously. Its highly frustrating when u want to take a few quick shots and you end up waiting for ages. I found the flash range to be a bit less. I havent used any other megazoom, so I cannot compare. If a high optical zoom isnt your top priority, you might wanna consider other models, otherwise, its a good camera overall.


Best in Class
This small jewel has more characteristics and accomplishes those better than many more expensive and larger cameras. They cannot go with this camera wrongly!


Love this model but I got a bad one
I love the features and picture quality of this camera but I happened to get a bad one. Even with new batteries, any brand, it would only take 20-30 pictures and sometimes I hadn't even taken any pictures and it would tell me to replace them. Exchanging for another one because I don't want to give up on this model due to it's size and features. Easy to use and versatile with plenty of manual settings. Flash recycle time is slow but a minor inconvenience. Beware the possible battery problem but don't hesitate to pick this one up.


does what it does very well
This is, nevertheless another IS contract ultra zoom shot cameras. Canon seems a sensitive compensatory play with this to have played - and after an attractive strategy to have struck. The large points of the camera are smaller large image quality at ISO 200, or, ARE for the constant pictures completely, which are extended, a usable high ISO (not large, but usable - particularly if you have something like noises ninja), Leichtgewichtler, AA batteries and a video mode. Another premium is a general Canon premium, it does very small in the way of the picture translation in the camera so the higher ISO photos, if good, as, the lower react not as, better, around the processing than to communicate cameras, which do a large quantity in camera noise reduction. The face treatment focusing is really a nice characteristic and the self focus relieved fast - I was quite impressed. If you know the Canon UI, the SX100 is simple a wonderful refinement of him. Everything to adjust is now, if you have large hands, the role wheel can a problem be nearly completely intuitive, but that is over the only error, that, which I could see - and for me, who was not even an expenditure, those would be downsides that there is not RAW processing - however for an inexpensive camera, am not not unexpected this. The screen does not leave you to zoom shot, as its shooting - for that you would need the S5, are not whole the broad end the fact that far and higher ISO not everything is, which largely (however you improve as other point and shoot (if you quality wish, regard you here dSLRs) - and really those are the Hauptdownsides - all compromises, I ready was to be formed. Great Camera but Slow Flash Cycle Times
I hoped for a complete package of a camera, when I ordered the Canon SX100IS. The good points are that it maintained much of the same characteristics and menu elections as the Canon of power SHOT cameras. The zoom shot 10x is absolutely fantastisch. It is an important improvement of my other point and entry thread cameras (Canon A95 and Canon SD600). The illustration quality is also - excellent color and very clearly very good. Unfortunately the camera has a very slow sharp cycle time (upward of 10 seconds). This is that I the discovery so annoying, which my old A95 and SD600 for interior photos take off. One which for dishonor as this camera such large photos takes!

although I am a beginner to this complete digital illustration age, I find this camera, in order to make unusual photos in each possible lighting. I had it only during a short time period, but I took night shots, Portraitschuesse with the timer and open shots and found him, in order to have excellent quality. In the past I was only one point and kind of entry thread person however intend to find more out over the illustration which takes, now I went there digitally. I love the size. I find the smaller cameras hard to hold too on and fear would have to drop it. This fits my perfect grasp straight. I would recommend definitely this camera to the expert illustration customer as well as the beginner.

Great pocket-sized alternative to other Canon cameras
Whether you are an experienced DSLR owner (as I am) looking for a compact second camera or you are someone looking to upgrade from your old point-and-shoot digital camera, the Canon PowerShot SX100IS is a well designed compact camera that has a lot of rich features at a very reasonable price.

I've been using my Canon Digital Rebel (DSLR) for several years and am very pleased with it. However, I have become increasingly aware of how bulky it is, particularly when I want to go places where it's inconvenient to lug around - like going hiking. So I set out looking for a smaller pocket-sized camera that had as many features as I could find comparable to my DSLR.

Being a fan of Canon cameras I limited the field to the PowerShot G9, the PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS, and the PowerShot SX100IS, all Canon products. The G9 is promoted and priced as the best of Canon's non-DSLR cameras, although from the reviews I've read it is more appreciated for its look and feel than for its performance. It is an 12.1MP 6x optical image stabilized zoom camera that can shoot RAW images. In comparison, the SX100IS is an 8MP 10x image stabilized zoom camera that doesn't shoot RAW. (I've shot RAW using my DSLR and don't find it necessary to get great photos.) The SX100IS has almost all of the other features of the G9, is about the same size, but weighs a lot less.

The S5 IS is an 8.0MP 12x optical image stabilized zoom camera. It looks a lot like a DSLR but doesn't allow for swapping lenses, and it can't shoot in RAW. It has very similar features to the SX100IS but is considerably bulkier and weighs more.

Even though all 3 cameras live up to Canon's reputation for taking great shots, I chose the SX100IS over the G9 because it had a higher optical zoom capability, weighed a lot less and was about $200 cheaper. I chose SX100IS over the S5 IS because it is more compact and lighter, and is about $80 cheaper. (Also, the SX100IS' 10x optical zoom is pretty amazing in its own right.)

The SX100IS has almost as many features as the other 2 cameras at a considerably lower price. I particularly like the Macro setting (which allows me to take really close-ups shots of ferns and the like on my hikes), and I like the manual focus capability for when the situation is such that the auto focus won't work properly. Also, I find that the lack of a viewfinder isn't bothersome. In fact, in some instances like when I'm playing around with white balance, I can get a preview of how the exposure changes on the 2.5" LCD screen, which isn't available on my DSLR.

Since purchasing the SX100IS about a month ago, I find myself reaching for it more often than I do my DSLR. For my money and for most of my needs, this camera is superb.


Nice overall
The camera gives me, what I wish. Good zooming function, large LCD, shot, moderate weight and volume and cool appearance fast. However the noises lie on the LCD on the hand, when another camera of my in dark place.But it pretty good worked on, if in the free one. Anyway it is a good camera for the price and I likes it much.


Mega Zoom
I went for this camara for the zoom and the price and so far I have been very happy with both. The zoom allows me to get pictures that I couldn't get with my old digital with 3x. The picture quality looks great and even amazes me on the LCD. I was already familuar with the other features because a friend of mine already owns a Canon. Being able to play with his camara and see the stitch mode and the video mode made me jump on the sx100. I knew that my friend's Canon would not allow you to zoom out during movie mode so I was very impressed when I was able to both zoom in and out when taking video on the sx100. This camara will serve me well with a new child on the way.


The PERFECT camera! I love my SX100IS!
I bought straight this camera, in order to draw up an older Sony camera (to replace I never received could to take good pics without it). Well with the Canon, no drawing up necessarily. Pics come from perfect each time! Nice applicable color (differently than Sonys), not too darkly and very sharp, clear pictures. I was totally surprised, which I could even see the bright LCD screen outside in the sun!! We had many digital cameras, and this is the by far BEST, which we possessed at all! It is the characteristic-packed camera, which I saw at all. There are thus many pre-determined modes, which I cannot remind of her all me, but some good one were Portrait, kids

16MB SD card is a joke I used my 1 GB SD I had ...It stored 350 pics with default setting in auto...I had to replace batteries 2/3 times....if you take videos more , you will need bigger 4 GB SD card..good thing SDHC also works with camera...EXCELLENT HAPPY

I love this camera!!! Whether the vorbehaltliche takes near or far this camera prisoner it all. To use fun is simple and. The illustrations are sharp and the colors are perfect. Canon has a real winner.


the Power of the PowerShot
This is my fourth digital camera. I get get bored with things and have to have another one thats better, but I think this camera will be around for some time. It makes taking a great photo easy. I was driving and a car was passing me, so I pulled out my camera. I did not even look at the screen and took a picture. The car was at least 50 feet away going over 70mph. The photo came out great and I could even zoom in to see the license plate. The image stabilizer was great. I will be buying another one of these cameras as a gift for my family.


Worth the money.
I had other power SHOT cameras in the past, therefore I knew that I wanted to cling with Canon. Forwards I ordered this camera unite weeks, because zoom shot and maintenance board were better than my last power SHOT. I am very lucky with the quality of the photos of this camera and the ability to change attitudes in order to take black and white in such a way and am the fun to play to also. The absence of more viewfinder does not constitute, if it too through to look the screen used, while I am. Tho I bend too forgotten to raise lightning but an announcement becomes: indicated) this camera is definitely worth the money and the price is quite much by Amazon.


great camera
pros
its a comparatively small camera with the features of larger camera. i like taking panoramic pictures but use it mainly on social events. the face recognition feature also lets you know that the camera is focus on what's important to you. the night feature is great too.
cons
a little (just a little) too bulky to fit in your pocket. otherwise, the features more than make up for the bulkiness. after taking a picture, it may take just a little for it to come back to be ready for the next picture. again the feature more than make up for the slight delay.

consider carrying a little camera pouch. get yourself a couple of 2G SDs and 2 extra AA rechargeable batteries and your set for a day of videos and stills.

i also recommend the silver. most carry only the black one. you may pay a little extra for the silver one but its worth it. it looks better. you can see the camera better specially in darker scenarios including the little labels on the camera. this may not seem important until you're there and have to hand off the camera to someone whose not so familiar with the camera.


Good camera - Good price.....
This camera is a canon, so the picture quality is high as expected....Even auto mode produces photos of very high quality.
I haven't actually figured out the face detection yet, maybe i'm a little slow........but hopefully that works well......

The controls are easy to use and all functions are easy to find...

Only thing I don't like, is there is no histogram on the display screen while taking a picture.....it only shows up when you review a photo

I like the idea of the flip up flash....its good to not have to worry about the flash firing when not wanted......

I got the camera for $235.00.....it was definitely worth it....ordered if from amazon for $259, plus i had a $25 reward certificate from amazon, so put that towards the camera to......

you will need to buy a memory card and batteries, and i also suggest lcd proctors to put on the lcd screen....

I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a quality digital camera with lots of manual controls....

It is a large camera compared to a lot of other digital cameras, so if small size is important..this camera isn't for you........


Great camera, price and features
This is a large camera for pro/am tireur, which little wishes, but strong camera around. I normally shoot with a Canon marking II, sometimes therefore I am against-striving to shoot with smaller cameras but this is very much for the price and the characteristics. First away, you understand that none brings at all the quality together of a SLR... Point-and-shoot, but, to that extent point-and-shot, this is one of the better goes. The upper characteristic to me is the picture compensation up to now. Absolutely amazingly. With acceptable support I can take shots with 1/8 shutter speed and still come out with a free shot. It is as much better than, illustration quality with a higher ISO sacrificing. In second place plus is the price. Around approximately $250 the SX100IS is as well as the Canon A640 and approximately $100 less. The A640 is 10mp, zoom shot 4x and has an impact screen, but the SX100IS has zoom shot 10x to the trumpf it 8mp is everything, which you need in such a way in a camera. If you do not receive injustice to me, the A640 is a large camera, but the SX100IS is the better agreement. Everything otherwise is, which I came to expect from Canon and from more to. Much better manual controls -- the role wheel forms it more simply to change attitudes. A broad multiplicity of ISOs from 80 to 1600. Good face acknowledgment technology. The SX100IS falls below within only one range... lightning. Before I arrive at the negatives, the large thing is over lightning that it does not slam automatically above, and is the one good thing. I like this, because it is simple -- lightning down, does not fire it. Lightning above, fires it. None around herumfummeln for the sharp key, no unexpected lightning in the museum, etc.. It is general-queried much approximation. Kudos to Canon for faith that their customers are not complete idiots and that they do not need automatic lightning. Where lightning disappoints, is in the achievement. First, as usual, he concludes ueberschussenergien up on most people shots, kalktuenchen from faces. This is at least correctable, by selecting down the sharp energy into the function elections. Red eye is another problem, which always seems I, with Canon to have point-and-shoots lightnings. I do not think the red eye reduction characteristic work of all. It seems also, gives few retarded, if one uses lightning. That this is not not the case with other one, point-and-shoots, but this seems a little more longer than normal. Finally the automatic color, which processes with lightning, resembles enough not for lightning out. Pics view a little blueish. It is not too bad, but again I saw better. Thus this camera receives 4 from 5 because of the sharp expenditures, but, if you are mostly without lightning (and with this large picture compensation, you no lightning many more to shoot can), then it'd 5 from 5 to shoot.

I pre-ordered this camera and paid full price because I couldn't find another camera with a similar features list at this price point. I haven't been disappointed. I've taken it on trips to San Francisco and China and it performed flawlessly. I took about 75 pictures before I had to swap the rechargable batteries I'm using (Energizer sells a nice 120/240V collapsible charger with 4 2300 mAh rechargable AAs for about $15). I haven't used all the features but made good use of the manual mode settings for night photos of the Golden Gate. I had to deal with camera shake at high zoom levels but that is a problem with any lens above 200mm.
As expected, digital noise begins to show up at ISO settings above 400. If the lighting is good the processing time is short. However, processing is a bit longer in low light conditions.
In general the controls are logically placed, the buttons are not too small, and the menus are easy to follow. I find the scroll dial on the rear a bit clumsy. Occasionally, I push too hard and make a selection by rocking the dial rather than scrolling.
I added a SanDisk 2Gig Ultra II memory card with the USB feature and highly recommend it.
I was looking for a camera that I could use in Auto when I don't have the time or desire to compose a shot but offered the option of manual controls. I found it. With the features, 8 meg resolution, and 10x optical zoom (36-360mm equivalent) this camera is only one step shy of a DSLR without the bulk.


Just what I was looking for
I have used this camera for one month and will comment on my observations. First the zoom lens is superb. It works smoothly and is easy to operate. I use it all the time. The pictures at full optical zoom (10X) were crisp, detailed and clear. The color was bright, warm and true to life. I found myself saying, "Wow, wow, wow. I can't believe how great these pictures look ". They are superior to the ones I take with my Canon S2 1S. One brght and sunny day, I took some pictures of a near by river and pedestrians who were at least 100 yards away. I used the digital zoom to enlarge the pictures 40X. They were surprisingly good..again couldn't believe it. However, on a gray day this was not the case. The pictures were pixilated and of poor quality. However, the 10X optical zoom pictures were always excellent. The superb image stabilization system contributed greatly to the quality of the zoomed pictures. My Canon Powershot SD 1000 is a wonderful pocket sized camera but at times frustrated me because it only has 3X optical zoom without image stabilization.

The macro setting of the SX100 IS is superb and easy to use. The picture quality caused more "Wow, I can't believe how good they are." Some of my most exciting pictures have been in the macro setting.

The camera is small enough to fit in my pants pocket albeit with a noticable bulge. I have been carrying it this way for the past month even though I have a carrying case for it. I wanted a camera with a decent zoom lens to carry with me on most days. It works but it is definitely not as portable as the Canon Powershsot SD 1000. I don't mind the increased size because I love the zoom. Thus far the unprotected LCD screen has not been damaged in my pocket. The screen itself is good size, easily cleaned and scratch resistant. The screen in no way reproduces the fine quality of the pictures as seen on a computer or when printed out. The screen has fewer pixels than the SD 1000 screen. This is not a problem for me. There is no viewfinder but the screen works reasonably well for me in bright sunlight.

The camera has a solid feel which I like and is relatively easy to hold steady for zoom shots. The battery and SD card cover at first felt a bit fragile but on repeated use it seems to work just fine.

The movie function is average at best. The low resolution movie setting takes poor quality movie that are unacceptable to me. At the high resolution setting the movies are o.k. You can zoom during a movie but it goes out of focus. If I want a close up movie shot, I zoom first in the camera mode and then switch to the movie mode and shot the movie. The results are o.k. My Canon S2 1S zooms while shooting a movie which
I like.

I have not used the manual controls so I can't comment on them. I have use the programed shooting modes for evening and inside shooting etc and they work just fine.

This is a great camera albeit not perfect. For me, the picture quality is it's greatest asset. It is a pleasure to give it a 5 star rating.




Amazing camera, perfect middle-ground between P&S and DSLR
My wife just purchased this camera after quite a bit of shopping around. I use a Nikon D70, which she also uses on occassion, and she had previously picked up a Fuji F20 to play with when I was doing the "serious" photography. After months with the F20, she wanted something more, but didn't want the size and weight of another DSLR.

This camera is perfect for her needs. It offers great manual controls that are easier to use than any other camera below the DSLR level. Shutter speed and aperture are limited, of course, but you get enough freedom to control depth of field, and that's what really matters. (with a sensor this small, you don't need anything beyond F8.0 because everything is in focus already, and F2.8 is wide enough to produce a decent amount of bokeh.) ISO range is great and easy to adjust as needed.

Manual focus is good. I was surprised to find this included, but boy can it make a difference. On one of my test shots, the camera could not focus on the object I had placed close to the lens (for testing depth of field), but with manual focus I got it right where I wanted it. Auto-focus works fine in bright light, of course, but manual focus is handy if you're shooting in low light.

The only downside to this camera, compared to the others we looked at, is the use of AA batteries. We have rechargeables, of course, but I would much rather take a small charger along on trips than a set of AAs and a big AA charger.

I will post some photos after soon so people can see what this camera is capable of. I would recommend it to anyone looking for more control over their photos, without the expense and hassle of transporting a DSLR.

UPDATE: Another important thing to note, and this may be an isolated problem... when the batteries run out, the lens will not completely retract. It stays half open until new batteries are installed and the power button is pressed again. This may be due to the specific rechargeable batteries we've been using, or it might be a problem with this one camera. But it is important to always have a spare set of batteries on hand.


Great combination of capability and ease of use
PER: Large controls, which are to be used simply, the Leichtgewichtler, to use simple and not at all, intimidating as many more expensive "advanced, point and shooting" cameras. CONS: Despite the quality there is any considerable illustration of "noises" at highest resolutions. This is a small expenditure, there it in a camera to be expected is cheap this. I bought this camera, which yesterday on reports of this camera and similar cameras, which I was based, here on Amazon found, but I believed that this model did not have sufficient reports to go for it. First of all, the SX100 is a good size and controls is simple to use particularly if they are compared with similar cameras "in the advanced point and entry thread" category. While the camera is rather large, if it is compared with newer "smooth" cameras, which are so popular at the moment, if I compare this camera with the Canon of power SHOT A40, which I replace, she is a little smaller and MUCH brighter. In addition if you compare the size of this camera with models upper end Canon and cameras of the competitor in the same segment, the SX100 is quite smaller a little. Controls are firmly distinguished, clear -, and very logically. I doubt that everyone has difficulty to explain from all fundamental functions of the camera. Controls are one of the best aspects of this camera. The competitive cameras, which I tried, had a quantity of keys and them schuechterten in. I am sure the fact that I would out also represent those, but I may use the idea of the Koennens a camera in 30 seconds (more simply to explain to the people pics for me, my friend, etc. takes). The coating property works rather well, but like all camera recorders external is requested mic, in order to receive half acceptable clay/tone. Still for the money, it is a large added characteristic. If the zoom shot characteristic goes, it is firm. 10x is not enough for me (I white not, what would be), but it is quite a little better than most digital cameras on the market. It was enough to receive to an acceptable illustration of a person who stands over 60 foot far away. It should work for my purpose of taking the acceptable photos on sporting cases well. If I had to form an objection, it would be that there is something "noises", which are present at highest resolutions. It is quite a little, which is better 5MP than a more inexpensive camera, which I used in the past, but she does not compare with the image quality of a SLR. This is simple a small objection, because most cameras in this segment (and for this price) have something illustration of noises. In order to sum up it above, I would recommend this camera to everyone, which searches to one point of quality and whom the characteristics of a SLR do not shoot necessarily or wishes. If you are really interested in the total control, lots keys, a "shoe" in external lightning of the assembly, mic, etc., this is not your camera. For everyone otherwise who straight photos to make would like, goes you for it. It is very much


Light, pretty and useful
I have already a SLR digital Aufruehrer, but it is too large to carry to some places. Thus I looked for something, which is sufficient characteristics to hold over me, a SLR buffalo leather small, brightly and with, interested. My wife wished sleeker, multicolored and small camera. I believed that we needed one more Jack of all trades model. Thus I looked a good optical zoom shot (10x), and for as many manual characteristics, as possible. I terminated above with three cameras: a Sony, a Canon and a Panasonic. It did not take much examines to see to that Canon was superior in each aspect. The menus are simpler than Sonys. The physical keys are better set and larger than Panasonics. The only thing, which I miss, is, to have broader objective has Sony and Panasonic the broader angles, which are good for this classical automobile photo with your friends in association. Differently than... My God. This camera is amazing. I did not need the manual to represent the instructions out. Everything is, where it is to be. They steer straight and the instructions appear straight in the context of, what you preselect. So if you are in the full automobile, do not find to controls for manual focus and lightning. But, if you change to other programs, are these elections there. The manual instructions are large. The manual focus is nearly perfect and the ISO elections works perfectly. I prefer the way, which they established lightning: it does not open automatically, if the camera needs it. It asks to open you. I hate, when lightnings without, hold to slam my agreement and to open. And also it is a further characteristic to break to down the line somewhere. I like the idea of the fair opening lightning. In the end. It is few larger, than the models wished my wife, but a unprofessional photographer its them much time did not need to see that, for some breaks of tariff more, we had a better agreement. OH -. I forgot nearly. The largest problem is really the downtime between shots. These cameras must be faster. It educates me moved, if I must take a shot and I must only wait, while the microprocessor works. Concerned, chaps. They can form it better. Differently than the speed... large package gives out. Amazing colors and objective. Nearly perfect camera.


Great camera, despite noisy ISO's.
I received this camera last week straight, but I had spent like 3 months cameras investigating on the InterNet. I really wished the Canon G9, but I could not carry it for me out. I already made tons of photos. The zoom shot is wonderful, like the illustration quality with lower ISOs. I may adjust the white balance and the colors in the situation its, the aperature, the shutter speed. It really permits some creative photos. It lasts me when however to find over the best attitudes manually and so I and up missing spur of the moment shots. I wish that it had a "high sensitivity" attitude for fast illustrations. The illustration quality with higher ISOs dissapointing quite, also. But thats standard with non SLR cameras in this price distance. Its probably really one of the better, its fair, which is not yet very good ' better '. The ISO button are definately A plus, like the sheet wheel. I did not think, which would constitute much, but I like it really. I heard that the film quality dissapointing, but I has it not out still tried. All in all, I like really the camera, which the illustrations her look very artistically and are cleanly amazing.


Good choice
I've received this camera today. First, I'm curious about the price, the Silver model has dropped its price by 20 $ since Friday, when I've ordered it (and back then, the Black one was cheaper).
I already own a Canon PowerShot S3 IS and I'm a fan of Canon cameras, so I wanted to buy another Canon. I was looking for something easier to use, more compact and lighter than the S3. I've studied the Canon cameras, read a lot of reviews and settled for an A550, but I wasn't very sure. I've discovered the SX by mistake, while visiting an electronics store. I was amazed by the clarity of the pics and the lightness, compared to the S3. And the zoom... it's actually hard to give up a 12x optical zoom like the one the S3 has, and that quality of images. But the SX proved to be a good choice. Reviews generally criticised the inacceptable noise at 1600 and the poor movie quality. I do agree about the ISO 1600, but movies seemed quite nice and the pictures are good even compared to the S3, although night isn't SX's best friend.
I recommend the SX100 for those who want something more than an A camera, but don't like the bulky feel of an S3 and need something portable and more friendly-user. Otherwise, go and buy an S3 or an S5, their quality in pics is better and the price is almost the same.
All in all, I'm happy with my little SX and thanks Amazon for the order. 4 stars from me - because night and ISO 1600 are poor and reaching for the USB port ain't very easy


Love it!
I bought this, in order to replace an old Canon of power SHOT. Up to now I like, what I see. The illustrations are much clear and the attitudes are simple to use. I love the zoom shot ability.


Viewfinder Schmoofinder
You can ignore any review of a point and shoot camera based entirely on the presence or lack of a viewfinder. There are plenty of cameras with viewfinders and plenty of them without. If you really want a high end Canon with a viewfinder, stop reading and go look at the G9, the S5IS, or the A650. Most people who shoot with this type of camera don't even use them, and for people with strong glasses prescription, like myself, they are so small they are absolutely useless. With a P&S viewfinder, you don't even get the true picture. What's actually going on the sensor is what's on the LCD. The new models are so bright you can see them in almost any light. Most even have way to boost the display if needed. Viewfinders are a nice feature but only one of many.

I have tried out this camera in stores and plan to buy one. The scroll wheel makes it very easy to adjust settings, like to change ISO for example. Ergonomically, it's large and curvy, like a mango, very comfortable to hold, even if you have big hands. The buttons are big and in the right places. It isn't small enough for a shirt pocket, but it is still quite portable. It has a large sensor, which means those pixels are bigger and hold more color information, giving you better pictures. My only gripe is that it doesn't start at 28mm (wide angle); that's not a deal killer, but for indoor, family shooting, I'd prefer Wide to 8x over Normal to 10x. Most people would take 10x over Wide. Teens and Twens looking something sleek & sexy to take clubbing, this isn't it; the SX100 is sensible shoes in a stylish world.

I highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants a easy to use point & shoot that takes great pictures; to anyone who wants a P&S than can do manual/aperture/shutter priority but can live without RAW; to anyone with a touch of arthritis/carpal tunnel or anything else than makes gripping and manual dexterity a challenge; and to those who really want a G9 but can't justify the extra $200.


I love this camera
I bought this camera last week and I've take over 200 photos and a couple of movies. This camera is great for some one like me who wants the point and shoot options and settings but still likes to dabble in the manual world and play with doing it myself. I've used this camera to shoot pictures of my niece at the park, at the aquarium and on a carousal. The face recognition/ picture centering feature and the image stablization is great and allows you to capture images with out blurring. The aquarium pictures were amazing, with very clear detail and perfect lighting. The movies were clear with out shaking and the sound was pretty good. I also like that this camera allows me to use 2 AA batteries of any brand in case I get stuck somewhere with out any power.


Best camera I've owned
I love this camera. My fiancé and I bought this as a great camera to have around since my old camera took really blurry pictures. It was a great investment. It takes great pictures and has an excellent shutter speed for a digital camera. It's really nice because we have a young kitten who runs around a lot. I would definitely suggest this camera to anyone I knew was buying a camera.


Nice All Around P&S
I bought the SX100, since a daily camera I around my Canon 30D DSLR to pull would not thus have. I had it for one week now and make it very acceptable photos for a P
