WAIT Don't buy it yet
The flick takes ultra the fine of videos just but the transfer of them to your PC is a nightmare. I checked some sites of the consumer and I am not the only person having this trouble. Much more sinister the site is the flick than visual is downwards. The update enumerated here cannot thus be downloaded, making the caméscope useless. Hold in addition to buying this until the flick obtains its act together


Easy to use, decent quality videos
It is easy superb to use well this camera out of the box. That took approximately five minutes to learn all the devices. It uses two batteries of aa. The fixing of him to the computer could not be easier. Since I have already it video to publish the software, I did not take the trouble to install the software which came with the camera. That functions just like any other made numerical camera and puts its files in the shirt of DCIM so that they can be easily copied and stuck like all the other files. This camera will not replace a caméscope of high-end for important events of recording, but it * is * improve for spontaneous videos, doing it video for the sequence, etc... The good: * easy to use * decent video USB integrated * to it of quality * TV produce and include the cable * the tripod produced the bad one: * No slit to add more memory or of disc to a chart of external storage * the audio recording could be a little better (not a business with me since of I overdub usually acoustics in any event)


I loved while it lasted
I bought the flip two weeks ago, and today after i unplugged it from the computer, I watched a video i had made on the flip when it suddenly shut off....and now it won't turn back on. i tried everything and i don't know if there is a reset button? But while i had it I was uploading all kinds of stuff on youtube. even though it lasted two weeks? i am going to buy another one so now im up to 300 dollars, if the nexy one breaks im going to be ashamed at myself. I hoped this help..


This is a MUST have if you want to record and share memories!
I first heard about this camera on the Oprah Show and I decided to come here to read the reviews. I have a very expensive Sony mini-DV camera that I have used to record memories over the last several years but my problem has been how to easily convert them to digital. So that is why I was interested in the Flip video camera. After reading the reviews, I felt the Flip Ultra camera was the one for me because it had twice as much memory as the regular camera (plus I like the orange option!)I ordered it and as soon as it arrived, I opened the box and the setup took less than a minute (literally!) I love the fact that it uses 2 AA batteries and then you set the date and time and you are ready to go! As soon as I had it ready to go, my 6 1/2 yr old peeked over my shoulder and said, "ooo, Mommy, what is that?" To which I responded, "my new video camera!" She promptly asked if she could use it (she has been using a digital camera since she was 2) and she was off and made her first video in a matter of minutes. I love the fact that the camera comes with video editing/sharing software that works on Mac or PC and it is super easy to use. The one thing that I would echo from the other reviewers is that it is a GREAT idea to buy the USB extension cable because it could be too easy to break off the USB connection arm if you don't. I didn't purchase the Flip branded cables because I didn't see the need to have it color coded so I bought the Cables to Go version for less money Cables To Go - 19003 - 1M USB A Male to A Female Extension Cable (White) and am very happy with that. Since my daughter is so delighted with the camera, I think that I may have to purchase another camera so that I can use it! As my boss says, this is "cold dead finger technology". You are going to have to pry this out of my cold dead fingers before I will give it up!


Pocket Movies, Why not?
Lightweight, Fun looking, enough features, not difficult, and who needs super high quality movies all the time when short and accurate clips are just fine? The Flip creates good quality movies, simple plug it (usb) and store the files or recreate clips into a movie with built in Muvee Software. Or just leave it neatly in your shirt pocket, just in case you see something worth remembering or showing off.


Wow!
This is a most amazing product. Very convenient for spontaneous moviemaking. My kids really love it. My seven year old is having the time of her life taping herself.


Small & Light
Nice product my girl friend love it. It's small and ligt also we tried to watch the film on TV which is 20" and still good!!


Great little camera!
I like this small camera. I have 2 others caméscopes and I never employ them. I must worry about charge them, bringing the bag, speed, etc... I am terrible with him and consequently have little video of my kids, family and friends. I captured more visual in 2 months to have this camera than in 5 years of my other cameras. It is not a camera of imagination. Nonlarge for projectiles of distance or imagination. But it is not how I employ it. It does exactly the EC what I have need - saves it video and noise of the special occasions and the frank moments. Love of devices I - small (adjustments in my purse), batteries of aa (no filling, ends per moment), easy remote loading (USB joint, messages of request software), easy to store (a format of library for files of economy gives you), easy with the email (the compress the files thus can you easily email they), with the good noise, and the clear image. This was clearly done with the generation of YouTube to the spirit. Much edition I made by stripped although I think the software which it comes with is very limited. I really do not have a complaint. The only thing that I would suggest for future models is to have a certain type of dismountable memory. I could see needing more than 60 minutes for holidays and not to have a computer available to download. In a general way, strongly recommended. Large gift for new parents, teenager, student of university, etc...


Good
Up to now I am happy with the flick itself but, the image of the case was fallacious. I did not obtain the white case which is closed. I received a black case with a closing of cord. When I placed my order I intended to obtain what was in the image thus although that functions it is not the color or the model which I wanted and thought I obtained. If their outward journey to make substitions that I feel they should to at least send you let an E-mail and you know thus you can change your order if you do not want their substitution.


Everyone needs one.
I bought this with the intention of just enjoying taking videos. A camcorder that was simple and easy to work. AS i am not a professional.It ended up being much more. My Mother died last week. I used the FLIP to record my last times with her. I came home and very easily loaded it on my computer. Quality was great. I will always have that with me now.I also found that it was cheapest on Amazon. Thank you.


why did I wait so long?
This compact video recorder takes amazingly clear videos. It's easy to use...easy to view...easy to put online. It's small enough to take anywhere so you don't miss all those moments you shouldn't. Great for kids and school projects!! A must have!!


Great Camera to take anywhere
I bought the flick for my boy friend for Christmas after having seen an advertisement for it on amazon.com. It had not never had a visual camera before and uses hardly its numerical camera, thus I were not sure if it went to like him. But, it finished to the top liking it. It employs it all the hour. It is so easy to download the videos, too. Very that you is taken change-outside the USB in your computer. After the holidays, we could divide our videos with all the two our families by downloading them right top with each computer. The quality of the video is very good too. When we obtained the flick, there was a black spot on the screen. It did not wound the quality of visual recording, but was annoying because you could not completely look at the videos on the screen. The Amazon was very convenient about sending a replacement. They did not give me any argument and it did not cost me something for the replacement. I would buy all my electronics here!


Great product!
I bought this like gift of birthday for my associate, and it adores it absolutely! It is easy superb to employ, comes with batteries in the box, and we did not have any problem up to now. His/her old nieces 13-year thinks that it is the freshest thing on the ground, and it is the desire of his friends of the type (it is BTW 40). We had a good number of recreation to bring it to the social events. Strongly reccommend I.


Hum . . .
Nice little movie maker, but . . .
Looks cool. Takes great movies, --but the software is junk. I can't upload to pc or mac the conventional way--or the 'flip' way. Their upgrades don't work either. Shah, --our IT guy at work couldn't even make it work. I have, however, found a way to save the movies. Have to go through the back door, which has its own rewards? I think I'll keep her--'till I get a notion to go in the front.

WOW WOW WOW!
I was very very skeptical on purchasing this camcorder but now that I have it I dont regret making the decision. This baby ROCKS! The picture quality is good and overall its a good performer THANK GOD I made the right purchase after careful reviews of different products costing 2 to 3 times as much. Have to admit that the size of the review screen is not the best wish they had it in 2.5 inch screen but for the price you CANT ask for more. I normally NEVER ever write a review but for this Flip Video camera I just had to let you guys know.... Great product, easy to use and small enough to take it ANYWHERE with you. Very impressed!


Great fun!
All that I can honestly say, I even will never think still of bringing out (relatively speaking here) of the enormous HD-each-possible-trick-caméscope of the test and will capture the daily invaluable moments! The flick does an impressive work, does not require any effort to employ, and is really practical.


Nice product, bad software
I just got my flip video today. The video quality when played back on my TV or computer looks really nice for the size and price of the product. Problem is I can't get the software to install on my computer. Multiple people have said they can't get the videos to play without running them through the software. The files play just fine for me in Windows Media Player Classic (free download on google as part of the klite codec pack) by just simply dragging and dropping them onto my computer. For the price, couldn't ask for a more convenient little camcorder, and even if the software installed it's really no good for anything but transfering videos and I seem to have solved that problem, so overall, I'm pleased.


lousy camera
I bought one of these cameras of flick. If you project to buy one, do not do it. I to have APPLE and me let us not can reach their software without additional software to the bottom of loading which I cannot download. So much now I am wedged with a camera which will not let to me do what the company had promised. This company sucks. I am very disappointed in the Amazon to announce this camera. I bought it basically because I trust the Amazon. Am I the only one who found this equipment tear with far? Moreover it is almost impossible to see the screen of viewing in the light of the sun luminous. Very dissatisfied in these camera and the Amazon.

Great product, great price
It is the visual camera of the second flick that we bought during our 12 old years - which employs them to make films for the youtube and the remote loading. We improved with this product of the original because we wanted the device of tripod - not an option on the original camera of flick. It is so easy to employ it. I strongly recommend if you have a young person who wants to make films - creates large images and noise for money step much.


no disappointment
i would recommend this to anyone. if your looking for a portable and something that sets up quickly you won't be sorry... i use this for getting shots of my grandson and i carry it with me everywhere i go it's so portable and easy to carry...


Handy video camera
It is a large small visual camera. We bought it to replace ancient Sony Handycam which ceased functioning years ago. I liked the idea to be able to transfer immediately fasten them visual with the computer or a DVD, as I currently try to transfer several 8 not very superb cassettes to DVD, which requires a functioning handycam. I also like that this small visual camera uses the regular and refillable batteries. I had problems with the first camera which I received: it continued to close to the top with key of my computer, even after downloading an update required. I could not obtain the access to the programs which are charged on the camera to publish, downloading, etc... Thus I am turned over that first, and was happy that the second did not function very well any problem of the whole with the computer, or the camera itself. This camera is large if your seeking something of the thats easy to employ, transport around and is not safety-technology.


so much fun
I'm pretty bad with anything fancy including all the cellphones so I was a bit afraid to get started with this at first. But the instructions were so easy that within minutes I was already recording a video. So far I have recorded lots of videos of my family and travels (got to Bali even)and I've uploaded them to my computer and yesterday I even emailed 12 of them at one go to my daughter so she can find them online and doesn't have to download them either. I still haven't figured out how to attach the cord to hold the thing and haven't used it with my tv either. I finally learned how to get it to record by just holding the red button until it started! The Flip website had material to download to make the whole experience easier and I did that and just haven't had any problems. The first two batteries lasted for a month with a lot of usage too. I think my daughter would like one of these too although she is using her digital camera for video.


Flip Camera means you don't have to miss ANYTHING
I ordered this camera the day after my small nephew of baby (for whom we are the "grandfathers" for my legally died brother and sister.) It was in rare form -- acting idiotic and to make song... that irreplaceable "substance" going back to 18 months this can never describe you amply. We will not miss more thing after this camera of flick. It is lighter than my telephone of cells, join the size of a blackberry, and it video surprisingly LARGE of catches. I employed with work for a function of building of team of group and I have enough length to really embarrass people with the next part of Christmas! It needs a better type of belt of sport, but he could not be easier to employ. I like it and will probably never trail the visual camera outside still. Obtain it! !


Why lose the viewfinder?
I saw this camera today while my owner obtained just one. I was wowed until I carried out that there is no sight. I believe that many numerical cameras go this route and I do not obtain it. My eyes going back to 52 years are presbyopic, a normal occurrence if one saw long enough; I cannot focus myself to the top of the end without glasses of reader. I could use the sight, if available, without glasses. Moreover, how one it sees the screen in the light of the sun luminous? If it is like my telephone of cells, one cannot. Another reason to keep sights. My 2 hundreds.


Terrific
All which you could provide in a shirt-pocket-classified device which is at the same time remarkably inexpensive. The optics/resolution is excellent, healthy just fine collection. An important consideration is the intern-produced platform of computer, which makes it easy to transfer and to dispatch the whereever images there is a computer. I bought this for ten years. He and his/her younger brother made publishing work before you knew it.


Failed
I just received my 80 ultra and that does not function. The noise proceeds it video by approximately 2 seconds. The video does not exploit my video of Microsoft (the last edition). The E-mail did not play once not sent. The recommendation of technology of support, to fix the problem, did not fix the problem. The only good thing that I can say is that it video played well by using the fast time of apples. I guess that I just obtained a bad unit.

Easy to set-up, Easy to use, and Expectations met
With open Juste the box 30 minutes ago... that it was a breeze to be installed and employ. I had read all the reviews concerning the difficulty that some had to install the device and attache during a difficult time, but had met any. Here some remarkable points: (video 1)Flip seems to it to have already updated the software packages on the device because when I tried to charge the levelling, a message seemed saying it was already on this level. (2) I did not have any problem using the button "red" record of video as reported by others criticize. Frankly, compared with the keys on my blackberry 8800, it was a breeze to be functioned. (3) I did not have any problem to take it video and to employ it in the automatic producer 6 of Muvee as some others criticize noted. The only turn is that I had to save the first video time it as "mixes film" employing the visual software of flick (which is really stripped in bottom of the version of Muvee publishing the software in any event). Once that I did this, I had entered able it video the automatic producer 6 of Muvee, publishes out of the parts of the video, and make differently than I wanted to make. (4) visual quality, is not as good as a more expensive video tape recorder of FD, but rather decent quality for "videos of family" this glance just very well on my liquid crystal display TV of 52". In short, I strongly recommend this device. It is small, inexpensive, and is produced videos any use decent. You can bet that it will be in my pocket for sporting events of nearest child, over holidays of family, etc...


Updated firmware---still having issues....
I was not expecting miracles with this product...I simply wanted an inexpensive way to record short videos mainly for use on my computer or YouTube. I have a Sony digital camera which does an average job with videos, but after reading all the 5-star reviews on Amazon, I decided to purchase the Flip Ultra.

Many of the reviews here state issues with the Flip software locking up, but I felt reassured after reading from Flip that there is a firmware update which resolves this. I DID successfully update the software prior to uploading videos to my computer and am STILL experiencing issues.

First off, I have a brand new Dell laptop that is running Windows Vista. However, Flip has stated that the recent firmware update has resolved the software issues---even with Vista. The issues I am still experiencing:

- The software will lock up. It DOES allow me to pull the videos from the Flip to my computer, but once there, the playback is either very slow or does not work at all. I will hit the "play" button and it freezes. I took 3 videos today that I can not watch because it will freeze.
- Simply navigating through the Flip software menu is tedious. It takes extremely long (if it doesn't freeze up completely) to select the different videos, to go between the movie maker to the sharing options, etc. Extremely frustrating.
- The movie-making software (again, when it works--sometimes the result would be a blank movie that will not play) will automatically truncate my videos to 20 seconds in length. I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work, but I doubt it.
- Video quality is rubbish. Again, I was NOT expecting perfect, crisp videos that I would get on an expensive camcorder---just better than my digital camera. It looked fine on the Flip's tiny screen, but once on my computer there were lines in the video, blurriness and a general "rough" look. Even when I filmed in bright lighting. Once I uploaded these videos to YouTube, the quality diminished even further. My Sony digital camera does a better job.
- The recording button is annoying (need to press firmly) and the zoom is useless (I expected that for the price) but I could get around that if the product worked.
- USB was hard to insert in the ports on my computer---felt like it was a tight fit. Also, the way the ports are arranged on my laptop, I cannot have the Flip plugged in and my power adapter connected at the same time (annoying, but I can get over that too).

The pro's:

- Small, cute (I got the pink) and easy to carry with you anywhere.
- Easy to use (when the software works).
- I like the ability to directly upload videos to YouTube.

I am hoping that my unit is defective (since there are so many 5-star reviews, I am hoping this is the case??) and have requested that Amazon exchange it for a new one.


Love the Flip
I bought the Ultra and it did not work properly. Amazon exchanged it NO PROBLEM. The second Ultra is great. It's compact, easy to use but I found it a bit confusing to upload and post on a web page. After some use, its no problem
A detailed operators manual would be a plus.
Will be buying a few for gift. Great for all ages..teens on up.


This camera has a universe of potential.
The video of flick was given to me because one present of Christmas and immediately I could see that the many things which I could make being with him forcasted in my main thing... Approve the facility of use and "what is it is what is it." Compensate for the lack of some devices. How I would like to really see ENTERED AUDIO! Nothing continuations I more like being able to record a video 480 with my own microphone. Ok, I know that the mic are large, but thinks if I were with a preformance for a band of rock of indie and I wanted to make show their unit on the myspace and all which I could obtain were right the short waves of dominating volume being launched around in the binary put-mixture and push piercing cries. It is as each one video of telephone of camera that you ever listened to acoustics with far from, horrible. The ok, thus without counting that the fact which numerical is not like the analogue and has a limit with the decibals which you can enter, (audio misfortunes of the handycam of following Sony) there was another device I would like to have seen, DISTILLERS! The ok, there advanced is not any reason which I cannot have a motionless arrangement. I could have the video photographs and it to 480! That is been my standard since I was born, 480! I do not worry even about the definition raised in this moment, 480 does not distract and the photographs for what are they would seem nice. I guess that you can isolate from the reinforcements, but I am this rather sure discs in MPEG, which SUPPLEMENTS some reinforcements, returning a compression to reduce the use of hard drive to the minimum. Thus you can obtain distillers, but not really like a numerical camera and certainly not like effective. This camera is large, there is one attatchment underwater for 50 males and it is now my primary education video tape recorder. Screw DVC, there is no imperative reason not to replace actions of band with the presetting dvds or the controls of inch. I would like to see that this thing in future models to have one mic enter thus I can use a shotgun to record interviews with him. I hope for to it video panasonic flick of purchases, they would make a good decision. Welcome with the future, I would have killed for something as this for 145 dollars when I was a kid. Hour to show in the world what you can do!


The Proof Is In the Videos
The Flip Ultra is a mighty little video recorder. I got this for my 13 year old and it has rarely been out of his hands since. It's sturdy, small enough for his pocket, durable enough to take an unintentional bang or two and takes beautiful videos. The 60 minute memory is perfect and the movies download with ease. Add in it's sleek design and you have yourself a winner. You can't beat the value and the results will surprise you. This is not a toy, it takes really nice, clear videos.
Everyone should have one, it's that good.


Brilliant idea, thoroughly inept execution.
I bought this for my wife to use for impromptu filming of the girls during Christmas, figuring it'd be handier than a conventional camcorder.


We were hit what (what I later learned) the usual problem: it will freeze during video uploads.

We sent it in to Flipvideo (oh, how I wish I had returned it to Amazon for a refund).

4 weeks later, we received (having missed any chance at holiday filming due to a defective camera)the camera.
Well, you can probably guess what happened: the new camera also freezes during video uploads. Someone cut some corners building these puppies. This product could -should- have been brilliant.

Instead it is a big, disappointing, frustrating failure.

I should add that when it's connected to USB it doesn't run off the USB power, instead in continues to run off the batteries,. I should know knows, having seen it run batteries into the ground as it (endlessly) tries to upload the videos.

Additionally, although they promised to remove the previous videos from the camera and send them on a DVD, Flipvideo did no such thing. They left the videos on the camera, and since said continues to malfunction...






Awesome camcorder!!!
This small unit is impressive! ! It is so simple I did not need the directions, of the whole! !. Visual and audio quality is remarkably excellent. The software simple and is abilement conceived. I did not need the directions for that either. I intended to pay with 3 times the price for this quality. The best blow for the male on the market! !

Flip for the Flip
I purchased the camera for school. It couldn't be any easier to use -- power button, record, play, trash. When you want to download, just pop out the USB and stick it in the computer. The film rate isn't great for quick movements, but the quality is nice and for the size and money you can't do much better.


The Fantastic Flip
I'm in love with this little gagit - It's light and compact enough to ride around in my purse, making it always at the ready for that random video documentation. The editing and internet posting software it comes with is incredibly easy to use and fun to mess around with - you can even set your video montage to music of your choosing. My only wish is that it had some sort of attached lighting system for darker settings, but daytime/indoor shots are always clear and the sound quality is great. Yay Flip!


Pretty neat for its purpose
This was a Christmas present for my 9 year old who kept using up the memory card on my point and shoot camera to take videos of his friends, stuffed animals, etc. Since I am all about letting his freak flag fly, I decided to give him his own camera and encourage this behavior. This camera has been great for that purpose. The lack of an SD card hasn't mattered. Most home videos longer than 5 minutes will never get watched again in our house. The only complaint is that you can't FF or REW within a video when reviewing it on the camera. We have used the editing software and it's what you'd expect for the price. Exporting in MPEG-4 format is great for sharing videos that even my Mom can open from an email.

Don't buy if you're on a Mac
I had high hopes for the Flip and bought one right before my baby boy's first Christmas. It's easy and no frills. Great stuff. Then I tried to download. It was a mess and the only way out was to reboot. After hours of tries I never got it to work. Finally I checked and learned they had a patch to fix these problems. Only.... the Mac version wouldn't come out until January. OK, it's February now and I found the patch. IT'S ONLY FOR LEOPARD! What? The idea with this camera was to make things simple. My experience was anything but.


I'm A YouTuber and LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!
After reading all the comments about the FLIP camera, I was very reluctant about getting this to help me create my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb on YouTube" video series. I've been wanting to take the show on the road and do more than just static videos. So, I decided to take a chance and get this!

BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!!

The quality of the video is outstanding for the price and size of this camera. And the best part is it stabilizes the video for you automatically so you don't have the "Blair Witch Project" syndrome with a shaky camera. I shot a video the other day of cooking low-carb fried chicken and the FLIP camera got me right in the action while I was cooking. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!

But even better was how easy it was to upload the video to my computer and then to YouTube. I have an iMac (yes, to all those crybabies who say this camera doesn't work with a Mac--WRONG!) and flipped out the USB port on the side of the camera to connect to my computer. There was no software to install and it came right up on the computer. I easily imported the video footage I had shot into iMovie and produced my YouTube video show as normal. IT WAS SO SUPER SIMPLE!!!

If you are into shooting casual videos, then you HAVE to get this camera. It will add so much to my YouTube video series and I look forward to using it early and often. You WON'T be disappointed!

I was so excited.
It is a large small product to be had if you project on carrying it around in your purse for fast videos. If it is quality you please then your outward journey duty spend little more money and obtain a true visual camera. I like it cause that it is small and conveniant, obtain what you pay basically.


Lasted 97 days. Warning to Buyers
Bought Flip Video Ultra on October 30, 2007. Unit died on February 6, 2008 just a few days after the 90 day warranty expired. Connects to and is recognized by computer but simply does not transfer anything to or from computer. Very unhappy, would never buy again. Also, the original software loaded on it was obsolete when I received it, updated that, and now discover yet another emergency update is needed. Problem is emergency update also will not work. Other drawbacks to this piece of terribly designed junk are that the usb arm built onto it will not fit computer usb ports unless you physically hold the unit next to the port or buy a usb extension cable (if you do not the usb arm breaks off the device). Also has no port for allowing use of SD cards etc to expand video capacity. Very unhappy. Buy something else.


Do NOT Buy a FLIP video Camera
I bought the flick in November. Little after I could not copy my videos in addition to camera. Eventaully people of flick made me send the camera to them. They almost broke their arms with the pride to fix successfully my camera and to save my videos MARRIAGE. They said that they embarked the camera in December. It never arrived. After many attempts to reach these people they required of me to describe the videos and they "would look at around and see whether the camera were there". No answer again. The nearest time that I am enquis sent a new camera and all kinds of accesories to me as excuses until my camera was found. Maintaining it is February and always no camera. They never answer my E-mail, and if I call they indicate that "we will send this up to the executive level". I am assured that somebody will be in contact. But they are never. In this moment I will return the camera of replacement and will recommend it to each one to never buy not the camera of flick.


Crazy easy and fun!
It seems inadequate to make an examination writes something which makes it so easy to make a visual review! Right received my flick today, and immediately proceeded to make, download, and download several videos. This tiny and inexpensive device is simple to use and does what it promises. I am very happy with him!


Nifty Gadget

The software doesn't work
I've tried installing the software for this camera on 4 different machines:
- a large, recent Dell workstation running xp professional
- a Macintosh G4 workstation running Tiger 10.4
- an older Dell laptop running xp professional
- a Mac powerbook pro running Tiger 10.4

On all platforms, the initial install either didn't work (interrupted with errors) - or if it did, all functions of the camera that were advertised to take 10 or 15 minutes actually would have run for 10 or 15 HOURS (according to the computed time of completion once the number popped up.) So the camera is useless to me for any computer interaction.

Having said that, the camera itself was a very pleasant surprise after having read some of the negative reviews. Mine actually appears to be a pretty solid little unit - seemingly worth well beyond what I paid for it. I think, given it's function, both the image and audio quality are surprisingly good - markedly better than any cell phone generated video I've seen, for sure.

Another positive note - tech support seems to be hanging with me in trying to fix my problem - except that I need to interpret all their instructions for the Mac since I can't convince them I'm not working on a PC (I just settled on trying to get this to work on the Macbook pro.)

Given the reviews in general, I'm glad to see I'm obviously in the minority with this problem - I suppose this will culminate on a camera replacement.

Good, but not good enough.
I'd be surprised if someone received a Flip that wasn't defective.
Mines works OK but there's something up with the time and upload features.
Sometimes after I upload the video clip and remove my Flip from the PC, I quickly look at the video in the flip and its gone?(Sometimes). I recommend that everyone buys this product at a store where they could return it if there's a problem with it(Best Buy). Overall, it has great quality and its very small and light. It works best for V-Logging from your home/office.


Excellent product - excellent customer service/support!
My kids obtained the caméscope of flick for Christmas, and employed it direct since. Visual and audio quality is surprisingly good, and the caméscope is rather rough so that my 5yo employs without too much nail-biting on my part. But the most astonishing thing about the product is the SERVICE which is behind him. We had an exit with losing memory of caméscope (not the defect of the device - my kids dropped it several times!), and service PLEASE at pure DIGITAL wedged with us until we obtained the fixed problem. I was very happy with the speed and the helpfullness of the personnel of support, more especially as the problem was completely our defect! VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!


Not Very Good. Too many bugs!
I purchased this camera because I was looking for something that was simple to use, with acceptable quality. This camera falls short, even at the price. After all, you can get a "real" video camera with LOTS of features for about $80 more.

Problem 1: The software that came with it was not compatible with either my Windows XP or Vista computers. In fact, the only thing that the "software" did was convert the video file to .avi format. Even this was the result of guesswork and not because the instructions or software were helpful. You HAVE to run the software, which then does not function, but, it converts your file while it is in the process of "concluding" that it will not work.

BIG PROBLEM 2: In quiet settings, such as a room, the camera records its own internal storage sounds. Every few seconds you hear a strange and VERY noticeable beeping that lasts for about a second. This means that you are NOT going to be able to use this camera to make a decent video (unless there is enough ambient sound to drown out the odd little processor sound that is most likely a burst of data being recorded on the internal memory). So, you can't use it for work, or to make instructional videos, or to make any other videos where sound quality is even remotely a factor.

Problem 3: There is a very REAL problem with the big red record button. It does not register properly when you push it. You can think you are recording because you are certain that you pushed it firmly, but, there the camera sits in "READY" mode, not in "REC" mode. The FLIP people have known about this switch problem for a LONG TIME, for it to still be a problem is inexcusable.

My summary is that the camera is virtually useless. It does not automatically load videos on to YouTube, or any other website. The software is an artifact that does not work on the computer. Second,, the intolerable electronic noise that renders this video useless except as a toy. And, lastly, the ridiculously unresponsive RED BUTTON that controls the record and stop function.

On the plus side, it is small, will store a bit of footage, and you can let your kids play with it because it's not like they'll ruin something valuable.


So Easy To Use
It is the visual camera easiest to employ. I had the camera of vhs, the mini camera of dvd and it is the best by far. Aucuns cumbersome articles to transport with, not and disc right. Instantaneous playback. I have 60 the minute one and I record much the action of my grandchildren with that. I like it. I would strongly recommend this to each one! Once that you test this, you will not go again to anything else.


Videos of Frank, particles, waves
I obtained this for a reason, and a reason only. Counter-signature. The camera is drawn with him. Yes. It is an excessive weight of tad. Yes. It drinks with much. I began the first time the counter-signature of stripping to my telephone of cells, when it ate corn. Its bites were methodical and do not specify, its complete execution, a kernal remained. Contact of eye with the camera completely. I lost this telephone and the memories contained in him while on a journey. It is some share in Central America. To pass. I did not see the counter-signature since obtaining this camera, thus it is hard to review it in right proportion. I broke upwards with a girl whom I drew a video from, thus from this point of view, it will give a durable impression. Not. Not this kind of video. Videos are windows in the events which occurred at a certain point. But... is the presence of the camera alone changing those which are looked at? I suspect that good number among you seek something to capture the small moments of the life - a child quickly growing, of the holidays, perhaps a video of you observing your preferred exposure (yes if post-modern). Think twice. This act of the observance changes that which is observed. Heidenberg, I think. Thus? A wave or a particle is you. Think on top.


Excellent product
This product works as well as advertised. This is excellent for note taking, documenting a harassment/stalking case and acting silly, if you're into the Youtube thing.


Cool easy-to -use gadget
I just obtained my ultra flick and the sound be in service in 5 minutes. With the difference of much of other users with the software publishes, I did not encounter any problem. But I downloaded the update of flick of their Web site before I took all the videos and with the updated software, there were not any problem. The video and the noise seem very well for a device costing 150 males. And I have already a group of mixtures of recreation in 10 minutes!

Picture quality is great and sound is good too. Easy to use, had it figured out in like 2 minutes. Get the 60 minute version its worth it. for this price you cant beat it


Great Little "Keep it in my Purse" Camcorder
My "good" camcorder, a Sony miniDV died last month, just as I started creating my own video podcast on my website. Replacing it outright would have cost over 5 hundred dollars, something I didn't have. After hearing raves about the Flip from a friend, and reading reviews here, I decided that this would be a good placeholder camera until I could afford a good one.

I have to tell you, for what looks like a little toy camera, the quality of the video has amazed me. No, it's not the same quality as my Sony, but I did not buy this camera looking for MiniDV quality.

I can provide a list of things I wish the Flip Ultra had, but I know darned well that to get those things would add 100-200 more dollars to the price.
- So no, there's no real zoom, and using the digital 2x zoom is pointless and destroys the quality of the picture. But I haven't done any filming that required true zoom.
- Being able to use SD cards in addition to the built in memory would be fantastic. The 2 gig (1 hour) memory on the Ultra was more than enough for a full road trip to Maine - we didn't come close to using it all up.
- The sound quality could be a little better, but I have no problem hearing it, and when I edit the movies on my Mac, I just boost the volume manually as needed. And it isn't always needed.

One of the big benefits of the Ultra is that the files save in AVI format, so I plug it into my Mac, drag the files over, and no translation of any kind is required. (I do not have this luxury with my son's Aiptek camera, a competitor for the Flip. I need to use software to grab those files.)

One hint - we had purchased some dollar store batteries around the holidays and I used them in the Flip and the side effect was that it started to freeze up on me. I don't think the batteries were providing enough consistent power to the camera. I pulled those out and put in name brand "electronics" level AA batteries and all the freezing up problems immediately went away. Don't cheap out on the batteries. They seem to last a fairly long time, and you can always get rechargeables.

Our family used this at Christmas and we all loved it. Easy to use, makes great videos.


Amazing for the money
I looked at the flip ultra for a while before deciding to pick one up. I was excited I did within minutes...but blown away within hours. We were on our way back from a short trip out of state. I picked it up at a Best Buy and started filming in the car within about 2 minutes of starting to open the package. I filmed several random shots of my wife and daughter on the way home. I walked in and sat down at my MacBook Pro and wanted to see how easy this would be. EASY.

The camera appeared on my desktop, I opened the drive, drug the video files into iMovie, and went straight to editing with no conversion. (However I did already have Divx installed)

The footage was better than I expected. The video with decent to good lighting looked about how I had expected, but the lower light video looked better than I could have imagined. Sure, it wasn't great...but it was low light.

For the money this was a must have for me. I own an older and fairly high end DV camera and I'm researching a new HD camera now. The thing is, sometimes you can't get to those...or you don't want to carry them around. This camera is small, great quality, and easy to operate. We leave it lying around so if the kids start to do something we can grab it and be filming in seconds.

My wife wants her own and our 8 year old is trying to convince me that she needs one as well. The thing is, she probably does.

Pros:

Cons:
-I would recommend a usb extender cable.


Easy to use Flip Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-minutes
I bought several of these Flip Ultra camcorders for Christmas presents for our family members spread over the world. They are excellent, easy-to-use, and pocket-sized, so we can take them everywhere. A great product!


nice design and easy to use
I bought this video for my husband as a Christmas gift. He liked it pretty good and start to use it right away.It seemed easy enough to use. it didn't take a second to find out how to use it.


nice unit
After 3 exchanges, this last unit I got back from Flip finally works now. I think they updated the firmware or whatever. 10 stars for their tech support.

The only inconvenience was to look for a UPS store to ship the thing back; and, missed the chance to take it to CES 2008 to take some video.

OTOH, I highly recommend this camcorder. (when it works of course) It is small. It is pocket sized. It is easy to use. Unlike other brands, there is nothing to flip out before you can use it. The picture quality is not bad. Low light performance is pretty good. It comes with a metal tripod hole. And for trying the unit, I pointed it to my TV one time and it took a 2-hours video with the AA batteries before the batteries ran out. The software that comes with the Flip is pretty good too.

On the down side, the batteries get very hot when I let it runs for 2 hours. There is no image stabilization. So, you better have a steady hand to hold the camcorder. But this is not major. The major problem is that the battery negative lead inside the right battery compartment is flat and it is placed inside the plastic casting. Sometimes some of the rechargeable AA batteries (ones that have a flat bottom) cannot make contact to the negative lead.

Of course the Flip can't match the performance of the Sanyo XACTI I saw in CES 2008. but for 1/10 the price of the Sanyo, the flip is a winner.


Flippin' Fun
I bought this product because the major part of my family lives far far from me. My kids are in the college and are implied in many various activities. The videos that I take and the share with my family are priceless and much better than just a decription verbal. The videos are very clear and the software very easy to employ. The fact that it will condense the videos for the email is still better. Ah, and the kids like to employ it too much to share events with their friends. Each one likes to be seen on the video. My only problem is up to now the envelope before where you change the batteries fell while I took it video of the ski of family. With my gloves above I did not note that I opened really the compartment and did not lose him.


Worthless Junk, Poor Customer Support
My experiment with my camera of flick is nowhere near like rougeoyer as many reviews announced. Unfortunatley, I am also after the date warrenty, thus I am wedged with this small paper weights. The purchaser take guard. I took some fasten my Grandaughter and decided to put them on my computer. The apparatus-photo-built-in interface was raised the first time and then imediately has upwards cold. To inform instantaneous of instruction of an update of software package appeared, and when the update achieved, from the guides of edition and saving "flick" were gone, with two of the three fasten. Staples remaining in a way or other saved like file of player of media of windows. But the "easy ones to download" with the panel of YouTube which was at the origin there of flick, with the easy flick publish tools disappeared. The email to be reversed did not give me only I can employ to fix the problem. All the replys are technology-speak inside, which on the left I with a product which was obviously thrown on the market before all the bugs were removed. Sans.valor.


Great Camera!
I like it b/c that I am on the outward journey and it is small, light and so easy to employ. I have 5 kids and it is large with the video immediately and the watch immediately. We upwards finish observing it more video than we ever made with the cassette attaching of the adhesive tape to the visual cameras of the days afterwards. It takes place about time!


CHristmas Bonus
I bought this camera for my husband while it was going to see his family for Christmas and I was going to be able not to make the voyage because of work. It finished to the top of that which I went length and we obtained the big length of the whole family the Christmas Day that I could then divide with my family as well. It was very easy to use this camera and we could download our length on each one computer of other so that they could have a copy. Quality seems also large on my 37"tv.


No Rechargeable Battery
My Experience with cameras with no rechargeable battery is awful.
If you use them alot the battery might not even last a 60 min give or take a bit depending on the camera.
With coppertop duricells and lets face it lithiums are really expencive.
Your wasting your money on batteries.
Save yourself the headache get a camera with a rechargeable battery.


Did not FLIP and returned
Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (Black)

I did purchase this item from Amazon and returned it just three weeks later. The item failed to boot on either of my two computers as a recognized USB device on its third usage. Help from FLIP took over 24 hours to receive and their suggestions did not work. For the price and size I had hoped that this would be a great addition to my photographic equipment but it appears FLIP developers need to "bullet proof" this product and reintroduce it to the marketplace when it works reliably. So I sent it back. Use with caution!


Flip Video Ultra
I already have a numerical camera of high end and sought a fast camera of the access camcorder/digital. This adapts the invoice. Distillers can be captured by using the software included. Great visual results. Would have given that 5 holds the first role if the resolution were in the méga and the buzz were more than x2. In a general way I employ the this more this numerical high end for daily tightening.

Easy to use, however I had lots of problem with a software upgrade. Not as easy too copy or e-mail.


Can't beat it for price and ease of use
We obtained this for Christmas and we could immediately employ it after the opening it and inserting the batteries. It was so easy our six year old old man could appear out way of recording. I like the size! ! ! I carry it in my purse or pocket thus I can employ it anywhere any time -- with the difference of a cumbersome expensive video camera. Certainly it is to have better capacity 60 minute that 30 the minute one. It passes by double batteries of aa rather quickly thus a battery charger could be a good investment. We employed this to send the email visual to our family. We could easily connect it to our TV to observe our videoclips immediately. The software which it comes with is very good with some options of basic edition. You can add the music, made options of model of vintage, black and white, and 3 other. I could transfer my videos to my manufacturer from film from Windows where I had more options of edition. I appreciated these small thing and very happy AM with my purchase up to now.


Good Enough for My Teen
We bought the Flip for our daughter for Christmas and she was very excited when she saw what she'd received. She was able to use it with good results and without referring to the instructions.

The only drawback seems to be that it eats batteries quickly (hence the 4 stars), so if you're planning on using this for a lot of shooting, make sure you have plenty of batteries on hand.


Flip Ultra is ultra easy to use. Excellent for day-to-day family video
For its price, it is a large product. Stripped one moment of my kids missed since I have ultra. The time of setting with fire-towards the top is superb. Quality is it which-you-pay-for, not HD, but very very good. It obtains 4 holds the first role during the limited time of capture. If there is a slit of chart of memory to increase the time of capture beyond 1 a.m., then the pleasant life of battery can be entirely used. The use of a chart of memory can also allow a faster file transfer. The life of battery of the batteries of aa is large. Perhaps the flick can make a version of "HD" in the near future by adding a slit of chart of memory, sticking to the batteries aa with the long life, adding a standard cable of USB and/or by giving more flexibility to reverse-outside the connector of USB to adapt to various configurations connecting all while maintaining the device accessible. A good number of recreation by using it. The quality of the video will not be disappointing. One can be surpised with at which good point it looks on the PC and in particular the non-HD TV. Great work, reverse ultra.


So Much Fun!
The best gift we received this last Christmas! It is easy to employ, reload, and publish the videos that you record. Come with it is to have to publish the software which lets not only publish, but the option gives you to capture a simple image of a mobile video. We also bought the case and the tripod guards which were employed completely frequently.

Great little gadget!
I bought this as gift for my been engaged because she said that we needed a visual camera to take voyages for "our reports together". Well, I have Sony VX2000 which is an impressive caméscope, but one envisages it for a more serious work and is little tall to take holidays. Thus, I stumble through this on the Amazon and after having looked at around, I decided to buy one. It could not be happier! (well, the ring of interlocking took the central stage, but it was excited on this subject too!) If you buy this for what one cense to be it; a recreation, very portable and easy to use the caméscope, you will be very satisfied. If you buy it wanting to be next George Lucas or Steven Spielberg, do not waste your time. It is very easy to use and its small dimension compacts makes him a bellyband to throw in a pocket/purse with taking the road. It has the visual capture of surprisingly good quality and very a rapid to start to the top timing. A flick of a button and the flicks of connector of USB outside and are ready for you to download your videos with your computer after shorts, programs art of the car-portrait-loading installs. The life of battery seems to be very good. It it is economically employed during approximately a month and we are always on the first whole of batteries. If I were to feel sorry for me, and trust me, I really do not want to complain about this small fantastic thing, it would be the buzz. The buzz is very limited and does not have a good range. That being said, I did not hope to have a buzz or anything teleobjective narrowly. The buzz is the only weak part of this caméscope and that does not reduce even the total package. Catch right a stage or two forwards or backwards. Veiled! Buzz!


Flip Video
We bought this video camera for our 6 yr. old grandson. He loves it. It is very easy to use. I recommend getting the rechargeable batteries, especially if it's a younger person who is using the Flip Video


Great Product for Young Adults
I bought this caméscope for my 11 years old daughter for the holidays and she likes it. It is extremely easy to employ and the quality of image is good.

To be added to other reviews of inch-towards the top. It has the software in the camera installs automatically on Windows. Small and compact and easy to employ. Large for fasten low-end. Includes to publish devices in the software -- but stripped to the bottom and simple, with the difference of the other cumbersome software which often comes with cameras....

I bought this for my husand. We like it. Very easy to employ. We have four kids and it is large to capture memories. The image and the quality of sound are very good. If you about seeking something of inexpensive and easy to employ this is for you.


ultra flip camcorder
I bought this camcorder for a special event. It is easy to use and the video quality was great. The viewfinder is more that adequate in size. I was able to record onto DVD's from my recorder at home and give them to family members. It was great. I am planning to use it quite a bit this summer. We live in the thousand islands region and have a boat. Many great movies and pictures to be taken there.


Not Quite A Flip Flop
With bought the camera of flick. Handsome price, decent little camera ' jet far '. Decent value. This said being, count what you pay. With this inexpensive camera, you do not obtain projectiles of good quality, you do not obtain the good noise, you don;t obtain a decent buzz (narrower stages of catch 3 and you pretty reproduced much its possibilities of buzz). DO NOT OBTAIN It IF YOU HAVE a MAC/APPLE. It indicates that its software works with the imper and the PC, but it not. Transfers of video more easily, but the noise is very with pinion and nonusable. We must put it on a PC, to then burn them with a disc, then download the disc with the imper. At all events, it is small decent to leave in your bundle or purse or car, but is not based on him to capture important events.


Flip Video
My adult daughter & hubby opened our gift on Christmas morning and the video tomfoolery began. We captured lots of special moments....but when I plugged in the USB to their Mac, the problems began. I am a VERY experienced Mac user and I was not able to get the software to save the videos. It should have been easier! We left their town and came home...so far still no Xmas morning videos. It's a pain when you know that you have to call for tech support on the first day with a new gadget. This attractive technology is being offered by other companies now...I will investigate those before I purchase for myself.


Great Little Camcorder
We bought this camcorder for our daughters this Christmas. They absolutely love it. They love making their own little movies and the picture quality is really pretty good. We were able to put their movies onto disc without any problems. The batteries seem to last a good time too. Now my husband wants one for his birthday to take with him when he's out biking trails.

Well worth the price
The flip ultra is an easy well thought out product. It takes great video and is easy to tranfer to other devices. The ultra takes great video and is great for action shots. I use it mostly for shotting extreme sports. The quality is great and easy to get. I would recomend this flip video to any beginner through pro.


Simple? ...Yes!! ......But Beware
This is a great little inexpensive video camera that is WONDERFULLY simple to operate. I bought one last week and am very impressed with the video and audio quality. The of the picture and sound quality compares to the hulking VHS camcorder I was using in the late 1980s which was very good. My Flip video camera ran right out of the box with no problems. The instruction book can be read in 5 minutes and is very clear and simple. I love this little camera.

One word of advice though: People considering purchasing the Flip Video camera need to be certain that they, or the end user has solid basic knowledge of computers. I know this sounds obvious to most people, but there are people out there, particularly senior citizens who are attracted to the idea of simplicity, especially in regards to electronics yet they are not computer literate. They run out and buy items with the hope of enjoying them only to wind up with frustration due to a lack of computer skills. You don't need advanced skills, but a solid basic knowledge of installing software and file transfer is a must.


Very Simple and Useful
Opened the package and read a little of the instructions, and away I went. So simple I couldn't believe it. Husband plugged it into the TV and we watched it right then.
Had watched the video on Amazon thats what sold me! No more with the bulky Camcorder.
Granted the quality isn't a camcorder, but for quick shots of the just about anything really I can't think of anything better.
Husband is using it to record the interior of our 77 Corvette, along with pictures.


Easy to use!
I have a new baby with no time to read instruction manuals and I didn't have to for this camera! It's so intuitive and easy to use, you can start using it immediately. The built in USB is great so you don't have to worry about losing a cord. Love it!

on the one hand the quality of the video is astonishing for the size and it is easy to employ price of the caméscope the caméscope and it is easy to download with your computer (although you must install their decoder 3ivx in order to obtain them with the videos with play/convert with another format)... who is a light trouble but with nothing too principal my problem is after having downloaded the videos on careful listen can intend you to make bleep-bleep which the camera or the decoder puts in the visual file to make bleep-bleep occurs on all my videos, and I also heard it on others videos taken by the ultra flick which I sought on the youtube and found other users who test this also well thus it is not a simple defective unit. the majority of the people it is apparent, but with me it is certainly there and obstructing now I discuss if it is enough of a problem to return it which is a shame because there is no other camera for the price which I would obtain in the place... thus I just would be wedged without caméscope still.


great little camera
It is a shirt-classified pocket little visual camera it is easy to carry that naturally around and use. The small screen is good ignited and there are few orders to confuse us. On, with far, buzz, obliteration. The connection of usb swivels outside for the immediate remote loading to your computer. I bought, for 5 males, a cable of usb of the Amazon to be used for this because I do not want the camera during port. The new users should realize that the company requires of an immediate levelling of software package to fix some straws of software. Once that this is done, the system functions well. I download my videos with Utube right to store them. Hardly whoever will see them but it is my choice and it is correct. I carry mine around to take small videos of everyday life; making shopping in Walmart, obtaining gas, going the dog, no matter what. Unfortunately, in world haunted by safety of today, it is not always possible, thus employ discretion. I not foersee making the cameras visual smaller, just because it would be difficult to hold them.


I love this little camera!
The only thing I would say is that if you want a stable video, get a tripod, that's what I plan to do because my videos are all a little shaky.


Ultra Flip Camera
I absolutely love this camera. It's so easy to use, I carry it in my purse and have it handy at all times. Just aim and shoot. As a grandmother, there's always memories happening. The video is crystal clear. I have a regular video camera and it just sits in the closet. Since I received this flip, I use it almost everyday. Give it a try and see for yourself.



One Major Flaw
The camcorder is exceptionally easy to use, and does take decent quality video, BUT... when you zoom in or out while recording, the focus does NOT adjust. Basically, if you start out recording wide and zoom in during the recording, the picture becomes and stays blurry. I would much rather have the zoom option disabled while recording than have out of focus videos. Now I know about this quirk.


Fun camera
This is a great video camera for my 9 year old son and his friends. They have a great time making silly, creative videeo. Laughter resounds when they play them back! Easy to use; easy to download videos to the PC.


Great product ... easy to use.
I bought this for my parents and the parents of my girl friend, the two sides have the difficulty with technology and the computers. However, they both seemed easily flick of use that it actuating the camera is very easily for them and now they can download with the computer with the software already installed on the camera. I am sure that the quality and the devices of image are not until the par with many others caméscopes numerical, but it is a large camera for the price.


Flip Video Camcorder
Bought the Flip Video Camcorder for my wife as a X-Mas present. She loved it and loves how easy it is to use. It will not replace a full featured digital camcorder (only a 2x zoom), but nothing beats the price and how simple it is to use. It is small enought to carry around and easy to download into your PC. Think of it as the 110 pocket carmera of camcorders (sorry to show my age here).


Totally easy!
The Flip Video Camera is extremely easy to use. I like the USB connection. An hour of video covers most of my needs and the AA batteries last a long time. The 2X zoom is adequate for most occasions. The software fix at Christmas came just in time to fix the download issues that were frustrating. It's a nice basic video camera that's easy to carry around and capture moments that might otherwise be missed. The video quality is okay. Nice device for the price.


Not as good as I hoped
With bought this for my daughter with Christmas. Very easy to use and liked the size and the convience. The article came from way or other with the defective software and had to spend 1hour downloading a reported part. Then that we could download images with the computer. It is where the article has exits. Each time you take it with staples remote loadings seperately. That takes hours to prick all fasten them together. The computer could not prick these 6 more fasten together at the same time. I called the people of flick who were to occupy themselves and said that they would obtain again with me but I did not have a news of them. I tried to contact them by E-mail and telephone. The quality of image was correct and I was laid out leave who will seek the convience but I will need always a new caméscope because the slow thing of computer/download/stitching is a dredger. My computer is one year old thus I do not think who am the problem.


Fun and easy
The flip works great and is easy to upload to your computer and watch on your TV. It doesn't zoom very far so you wouldn't want it for watching your kid play soccer or similar. But for around the house it works great!


Disappointed
I had read so many good reviews about this camera but the longer I own it (around 6 weeks now), the more problems I find.

Pros: small, lightweight, very easy to stick in your pocket or bag, just took on a cross-country trip, also quite cute-looking (I got the orange and white), fairly intuitive to use, slim users' manual, easy to play back on TV

Cons:
1. The red record button sometimes works when I push it and sometimes not. (My fingers are medium sized, by the way.) This has led to a number of videos that don't end when they're supposd to, and usually have my voice in the background saying "Why won't it turn off?" I also have missed some wonderful scenes because it didn't turn on to "record" until I had pressed it 10-20 times.

2. When playing back recorded video on the camera or TV, I have run into the problem a number of times where it says something like "Disc unreadable" in the middle of a video and just stops playing it. No amount of trouble-shooting could fix this. Then maybe a week or two later, the video was suddenly "readable" and would play. This unreliability has meant that close relatives missed seeing important videos during visits.

3. My biggest problem is being unable to burn DVDs from my videos. One of the main reasons I bought this camcorder is because it is supposed to be Mac compatible. I had problems downloading 29 minutes of video to my computer. First, the computer froze when I was transferring all the videos at once. Later, I tried to do it one by one and still encountered the problem in terms of it would get stuck on one video and never finish transferring it. I had to manually shut down the computer each time and restart it. Then after hours of work when I had downloaded the videos to the Flip Library on my computer, I found it impossible to get any Mac applications to read the files in order to burn DVDs. i-DVD said the files were unreadable. With a Mac, you need to use i-DVD to burn DVDs that will be playable in DVD players. I really don't know what to do about this biggest problem, since the reason I bought the camera was to be able to make home movie DVDs of my young daughter.

I would definitely NOT recommend buying this camera and for anyone looking for a low-price camcorder, if you look for sales you can get well-known brands like Panasonic for around $200. I would imagine these work better than the Flip Ultra.

Looking at the reviews so far, I see quite a number in the one-star category. Perhaps quality control for the Flip Ultra is not as good as it should be yet. I am disappointed this camera did not live up to my expectations.

It is a large small caméscope for no matter whom. Just exactly which vat of dyeing of Glenn is delirious about it. My daughter will not let to me borrow thus I could have to also buy one were going to take with our 8mm the length, to exploit it the TV and to record it on the flick burn the dvd then. We tested it and the detail is so large and the alot will save us money on the transfer. We stripped tested it long range still. I hope if I can obtain a catch of him. Kelli, of Pa


I love my flip video

i think this flip video is easy to use because it does not have a lot of buttons on it. it is light to carry. it is a lot of fun to have and take videos and films . because there memories of what you have took along time ago. its also easy because the power is on the side and you just pull it right down and turns it right on.i love having this video camera around me.

The Flip camera works great and is so easy to use, once I got the updated software. Loading the software the firt time did NOT work, but I wrote the company and they sent me the link to update the software and to load it, then it worked as advertise. Now it is plug and play.

I purchased this camera because of a review in the Wall Street Journal. It is simple to operate and takes decent video. The main issue I have had is it is fragile. It is made of plastic and you have to be careful when connecting it to your computer. Battery life is not long so you need to use rechargables. I would not purchase it again.


I think I got a defective item
I reviewed this item for a couple of weeks before deciding to purchase it. I read many good reviews on this item. I bought it for a christmas gift for my nephew and he was very excited to get it, he used it for probably one hour and it just quit working. I sent the item back wanting to replace it and was told I could not get another one and was refunded my money. Because my nephew really liked it I bought it from another retailer and will see how that one will work.


Heartbroken Christmas Gift - big promises but poor delivery
We were so eager to receive this camera in the mail so that we could wrap it like Christmas present for somebody in our family. The product, as presented on the Web site of FLICK, seemed so perfect, the sooooo of the simple delivery, the sooooo of results clean and easy to create! It seemed impossiblement easy to do all. Even the videos of "échantillon" of Web site were to die for, but however seemed so spontaneous! Well, Christmas came and was matched -- with a variety of exits which made us to throw our hand-towards the top in the air and to require, sometimes, if any product could deliver more badly than this camera. There are many problems with the camera of flick. Pure DIGITAL provided only exits, not solutions. No badiner -- this product was launched with an IMMEDIATE NEED for a software "part brought back" to fix the outlets with the camera. We lost several videos, hours exhausted trying to make the software "improved" starting from work of site of FLICK (which it still does not carry out). With regard to I, the lotisseurs of this product launched it too quickly, trying to profit on the sales from Christmas, but without response for the HOST CENTRE of the exits of compatibility between this product and a PC. How irresponsible! ! I am personally able on a PC, and did not can obtain this thing to function correctly by using their materials. Sure, thereafter SOME of the devices of camera function -- but we lost several videos our Christmas of family, cannot create or save films by using their "integrated" software (which you must always test and in way or other to install on your computer -- misleading!), and basically could obtain a better functionality of one of the disposable visual cameras which are on the market now! The line of support will call you behind and/or answer the telephone, but they do not have any response for problems of compatibility with their software and a PC. A silver plated lining which we discovered -- it is possible to work with a part of the material which you record by using the film manufacturer of Windows. But it is a package more complex than than the manufacturer claims to have developed in their camera. Do not waste your money. Do not take any videos value with this camera -- you could lose them. Spend less money and obtain disposable.


The Best Mini Camcorder Ever!!!
This product is really worth the money! It's a little camcorder that can save up to 1 hr. of high quality videos! You no longer need to bring CDs or DVDs with you...you just need to bring this cellphone sized camcorder and you're good to go! What's more that i loved is you can transfer the videos from your Flip to the computer as easy as 123! Just plug it on the USB of your pc then copy and paste the file to your computer! It is a large camera. I obtained mine yesterday (black and 30 minutes of model). Initially of all this looks at really nice. It also weighs very little compared with the majority of the caméscopes. It is also good that it employs the instantaneous memory because he is highly reliable and vigorous. It is very simple to employ and it has astounding visual quality for a so small camera. The video seems better on a screen of TV or computer that my $350 Sony HC-48. It is also imper compatible and downloads easily in the cut of imove or finale. It is also very easy to download videos on a PC with the flick. For: good good seeming quality of image easy to employ it against compatible good market of imper and PC: no case of hat of lense is a fibre and the magnet of hair no card slot of standard deviation for additional storage and substance mic is a low not very weak buzz in a general way this is a small full camera. Considering the price it is astonishing. You save a group of money on tapes and obtain the very good resolution for a so small camera. I strongly recommend the caméscope of flick.


Great camera for the money
Very easy to operate and you can use it right out of the box because it operates on AA batteries (included). I was concerned that there was no light on the camera, but I've found the camera adapts well to a variety of light conditions. Overall, the picture quality is surprisingly good for a camera of this price. I only gave it four stars because I'd like the option of increasing the storage capacity.


wonderful design , easy to use
Received Flip Ultra 60 (white) this afternoon, opened the very well designed box, inserted batteries, connected to PC to download firmware update . How easy it was amazed my fellow workers. I work at a TV production company and must use several pro camcorders ,heavy, cumbersome and not user friendly. We had a blast viewing our Flip videos both on TV and PC and Mac computers. I am very pleased with this little marvel and glad that I did extensive research before ordering. I highly recommend installing the firmware before using the Flip. Five well deserved stars !


decent for what I use it for
This camera is good for what I use it for - simple videos to post on my blog and you tube. The software is easy to use (works great on my Mac w/ the latest OS). The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't pick up sound very well. That's a bummer. The speaker is on the back of the camera, but should probably be on the front. Other than that I like it. It's small and easy to operate.


Fun to use
This is a lot better to capture those fun moments than hauling out the old video camera. My husband never likes taking video, but he actually had some fun with this one, so maybe we'l end up with more footage of our kids!


Not ready for prime time
The first impression was that it was very nice and superb-easy to use. I drew several videos short and had pleasure with the rejouer on the very pointed screen. The volume of playback was severely limited. I do not see why if my cellphone can have a speakerphone so extremely, the flick, larger and heavier than my cellphone, should have a so low volume. The problem started when I tried to connect to me to my computer. This is supposed smooth being and siumple, but my blow right of flick while trying to install its software. I contacted the support with the customers and they returned me a prolonged procedure to remove and reinstall a newer version of their software. I did not circulate with after these instructions, but I returned to have to pass by these circles so much early in the play with a product which sounded trumpet its simplicity as a its best quality.


Quick & easy but disappointing
Well I does not think that no matter who should "reverse" above this visual camera. Yes, of flick the powerings ultra quickly, has an easy installation and a use of software and is convenient in size/functionality... but here. This camera will disappoint soon of anybody savvy moderate even the majority of camera or computer. Initially with far, the 640x480 resolution that I think is the worst thing about this camera. This report/ratio of Pixel translates harshly in the face of inch 4x3 on your monitor of computer for the good resolution, go a smaller size on your screen and is the image really good but with the way in which small of an image make you want to really look at your video? Go larger than this size and the image degrades immediately with a very weak image, C-with-D.: you will never look at a video of quality of the flick even to a size of a standard monitor (for example 17 inches or larger). As for the TV out of viewing (via the video made up), it is also ok, reasonable as well as possible but the image will blacken the box of letter on the left (


Surprisingly pleased ...
The software program doesn't work right, and there was an annoying fix for the problem that updated the "firmware", which didn't fix the problem, but you don't need the software to take or store the files so I haven't bothered to wait for the help desk to correct the problem. The videos are good and clear for a small kid-friendly device. Wait for the price to drop some more if you aren't in a hurry. More toy than real camcorder, but that is what I wanted so I am happy with it


Gifts for the electronically declined
I purchased the camcorder for my mother. She quite literally cannot set the vcr; nor can she program or use most electronic devices without help. She loves it. The camcorder fits right in her jean pocket so she takes it everywhere. Everything work with just one simple motion. My mom will never miss a moment of her granddaughter's firsts.


This recorder is suprisingly AWESOME!
I put this item on my wish list as a total luxury item, thinking I would never receive it. I also wondered if the thing would ever work the way one would hope. How could it for the price? Well, I got it and it works perfectly and I love it!!!

I was in the market to upgrade my Sony Handycam for a pricey digital recorder this year, but forget it now. I don't need it if I have the flip.

I am not a computer geek by any stretch of the imagination so I'm I'm not going to go into all the technical specs on this recorder, except to say that to the lay person, the video quality is very good. I think others have done a fine job reviewing the technical specs! I'm just a Mom - looking to record family moments - although I do know my way around a computer.

Anyway, as another reviewer reported, it took me less than 2 minutes to get this thing up and running out of the box on Christmas Day when I opened it. I loaded the batteries (no charging!), turned it on, pushed the button to record and BOOM....there I was. I recorded several clips and then held my breath when it was time to upload. Well, to my surprise, that was a snap too. My computer recognized the device right away (I run Vista OS), it transferred the files and opened to the thumbnails! I clicked the thumbnail and a clip played...just like that. I couldn't believe it! Could not have been easier!!

The device itself has several great features too. When you boot it up, it tells you how much record time you have remaining. It has an auto shut-off after a couple of minutes but boots up very quickly - so no missed moments! You can also go back and review and delete a video right from the recorder (without the computer). Every time you stop and start the recorder it creates a new clip, which is also really nice! It is small and lightweight - fits in a larger pocket or you can hang the cover (that comes with it) from your belt. My unit is pink/white, which I love! :-) It does NOT seem to hog batteries either. I have a set of AA batteries in it now (the kind meant for electronics - so slightly longer life) and I have recorded over 30 minutes of video and done several playbacks with no problem. Although, I don't really see a battery life indicator so I don't know what kind of warning system there is or how much life I have left in them. I also have not tried to take it to a kiosk to copy onto a CD yet...but I have read other reviews that say that's a snap too.

The primary reason I wanted a digital recorder was to share videos with family out of town. So, I tried sending a video clip through email but the file was way too large and they all came back as undeliverable. However, I don't think this is an issue with the recorder...I'm sure it's the user and/or the file size! Maybe there's a way to compress it but I didn't mess with trying that. Instead, I just uploaded the file to a photo sharing site (I used photobucket) and shared it that way. Again, worked perfectly! I think the device is even meant to share easily with certain sites/providers but I like photobucket.

The bottom line is that if you are thinking of trying this device...do it! You will love it!



magic moment caught forever!
Adjustments of this small instrument perfectly in the pocket before my Levi. It is ready for anything. I like that it discs during thirty minutes. I make short films, catching this moment that you wished that you remember later but to seem to forget. It is perfect to really document any moment in your life. I like this small instrument!


My Wife Loves It!
I bought this for my wife for Christmas, and she started using it immediately, and I mean immediately. Very easy to use, very crisp video, and surprisingly excellent sound. My wife now thinks she's a star, and so am I for buying it for her!


Great customer service at Flip
I bought an ultra flick for my daughter. As always, the Amazon was more than the message of request. However, because reasons which we include/understand, neither our imper nor our portable computer of PC with Windows.xp would identify it video. My service with the customers called by D of flick and after the acquisition of the information of her, promised to embark it nine. I was skeptic, but during two days later, a new camera arrived, as well as a label of return paid by anticipation for the return of UPS of the original camera. This camera functions. It is too bad there was a problem, but I cannot say asse' about the service to the customers of flick to make things right.

J - U - N - K In a little package
Waisted a lot of my time with this thing. The files get really big on the device, 20 minute videos may be 400mb in size. The problem was that we couldn't get them off of the camera. I used 4 different PC's, two with XP and two with Vista and still had the same problems. I had to go back out and re-shoot all the videos we took because of this problem. Small files would come off but not the big ones. Perhaps if it was on a removeable disk we could have gotten them off. We set for hours and hours working with this thing. Enjoy your trip back...


Handy little cam
I bought a couple of these as a gifts for family members so I've had the chance to play with it some. It's great in that it's very simple to use. Although I'm no expert at image quality, playback looks good. Sound is decent. If you're looking for a really simple video recording device, this is about as simple as it gets. The video quality is definitely better than the video recording capabilities on my digital camera, but the zoom is pretty limited, so your viewing area is limited as well. Overall I gave it five-stars because it does well at serving it's purpose: being easily available for short, spur-of-the-moment, decent quality video recordings. I would def recommend getting the USB extension cable.


Love this camcorder but...
Bought this as a present for 13yr old. So easy to use doesn't even come with manual!! great pictures easy to use - very disappointed in the sound quality. But if that doesn't bother you, you can't go wrong for the price Great little (fits in your pocket) camcorder - you will never miss those once in a lifetime moments again. don't by case - hard to get on and off which means it will never be used. if you want a case - buy a generic one.

Great buy!
This has to be the easiest Video Cam I've ever used. It's simple to shoot and simple to download. Nothing extra is needed. It's even simple to plug into the TV and watch. I got the 30-Minute camera which is proving to provide plenty of time for day-to-day use, especially since you can immediately view what you shoot and delete the things you don't want to keep. I wish now that I'd gotten the 60-Minute camera, though, which would be more useful for vacation or family reunions.... places where you'll use more and have less opportunity to download. The only addition I'd love to see is that it be given the ability to download to a flash drive. Regardless, it's a great video cam for the price.


Great new camera for research
It is the largest small camera to add with my numerical camera to seek and documentation of the events of family. It is so small and is to him the alwyas in my purse to employ when the unexpected events take place. After I finally worked my way by the introductions and the instructions it is so easy. It is impossible to really put in words how much I had pleasure it to be used. At 70 years, I do not take with new instruments right in addition to beater, and must work my way by the process. It is strongly recommended by it by me for which like to document the family and other events on a short notification.


Flip Video Review
This is a great product for the money and the quality of the video. No, you can't shoot a full feature movie with it but most people want a nice picture with some zoom feature to capture their family friends, etc. It is user friendly and all you have to do is hook up the USB connection and download your files to your computer. It will connect to your TV directly as well with video cords supplied with the camera.


Use of Flip video Camcorder
I have found the Flip Camcorder to be a good item but at this point not great. I cannot get it recognized by my Dell desktop computer. It has worked well with my Dell laptop. The technical support has been very supportive and responsive but have not yet solved the problem. The unit has been returned and I've been promised that the problem would be corrected and the camcorder returned to me. The other issue is that I've been unable to upload to my computer and send as an attachment to a regular email.


flips a hit
I purchased this for my twelve-year old son as a xmas present. He loves it. He and his friends, siblings have a great time filming. They have been working on a "series" starring the family dog-really gets them thinking creatively - they're writing, editing filming, etc all under the guise of having fun. Only one thing I wish was different-rechargeable batteries. My little Spielberg is filming a lot so we are going through AA's quicker than I'd like. This is so easy to use and download onto computer. My daughter has requested her own for her birthday.


Best in Price
I LOVE this little camcorder. Really easy to use, light weight and small enough to carry in your purse or pocket. The only draw back I've found with this camcorder is that it's only good for near shots. This is not the camera for shooting your kid's school play. Great for Christmas and Birthdays.


I wished it would have worked....
I bought this product with high hopes. We will adopt a baby and thought be large for him to take in Kazakhstan with us to make videos of recreation of the baby on our blog. When I obtained it the first time, I filmed my son and put we it on you tubes. It was easy. However, after that, it ceased functioning. It would ignite, but not let draw us it video. I changed batteries, no chance. I obtained an email saying that it required an update of software package, but it would not even put up to date. I do not know if it were a problem with Vista, or not. I took it that back-I' m sad that did not function for us.


Good hardware - software buggy and weak....
The Flip is extremely easy to shoot video on. Picture quality and audio is quite good for such a small package (smaller than a typical digital camera).

Where the product totally lets down is in the on-board software. Neither my Mac nor PC could run the software without program errors. I loaded the firmware update as well and it was no better.

If you want to shoot simple videos and then save on your hard drive for editing by a different program, you should be pleased. But do not rely on the software that is installed on the camera - you will be frustrated and disappointed.

All-in-all, Pure Digital Technologies released this product too soon and without the proper software. I have tried support which promises to return an email within 4 hours during their stated hours. They don't.

This product's intended users in my household were my kids. They have fun shooting the video but doing anything constructive or creative with their videos is impossible. Thus, it sits unused.



The best!
I bought the Flip as a Christmas present for myself. I have elderly parents and hope to include their story in the Story Project. The Flip allows me to gather bits at a time impromptu, is easy to use, and I'm able to take it anywhere. The recording button can be problematic in that you can press and press and it still doesn't record. It seems to get easier when you turn on the camera and wait a minute or two. The tripod accessory is invaluable for my purposes, freeing me up from the camera. Register your product for firmware updates. Forget the pouch, buy a universal pouch for digital cameras--much better protection for those of us that has the Flip rattling around in the purse. Check whatever pouch you use for protection from rain and spilled yogurt!


Awesome!
I was little a highly-strung person about making this purchase after reading (little) of the negative reviews (most of the time concerning exits of software). But, stripped of I had all the problems of the whole (I have Windows.xp). I do not employ the software which came with the video from flick, however (I employ the softare of ACDSee to look at videos). It is very easy to use this small caméscope and it comes with 2 "from the batteries from aa". I have refillable batteries, which will come in handy. Visual quality is very good and it is very convenient because you do not need DVDs! I like this thing!


how long it takes to share the video? help!
I am not sure if the majority among you employ the program of flick to divide it video. This is this seems taken that so long to make small the video of size employing the flick the share of the visual program by the device of email... I test always even it video of 30 dryness, but take-that until I cannot wait to finish it waiting less the most 15 minutes too long and approximately 30% complete (which with being said for the video of 30 dryness is) always make you employing all the program to divide it video? Great Product for the Price



Fun and easy to use
My daughter loves her Flip. She is normally shy, yet this camera is so fun to use, she has no problem expressing herself through the lens of the Flip. It is a lot of camera for the money.


Verdict is still out on this camcorder...
I was very excited about this caméscope of the reviews and the glance of the caméscope itself. I have the orange/white one and thinks that it looks at so fresh and nice. I only have right receipt this in Christmas, thus I did not explore it that much still, but up to now, I noted what follows: - the video seems good when you play the tiny version of nail of the inch by the software of flick itself. However, when you save it with my documents and it plays larger in the player of media of windows, the image loses much quality. It seems grained and scrambled. - when I record in video and employs the buzz, bourdonné in the sections my to seem visual scrambled. Non-bourdonnés in the parts do not look at as not scrambled. - something is very strange about the software for the flick. When I open it and to save my videos, or publishes etc, and the completion, it will not enable me to close the screen. I test "X outside", and it will not leave me, and I cannot find any button which indicates the "sortie." Thus I am wedged there to I "control/alt/delete" out of him what is annoying and should be useless. - at the present time, quality is not as good as the visual section of my numerical camera which is 4 years old! Thus I am disappointed in that. But I hope that I miss simply something and will appear out way of obtaining a better quality. - stripped of I anything transferred to the dvd or with the TV still, thus I hope that this will seem better there. - the buzz is not much whole. It indicates that it has only one buzz 2x, and right account in the way goes in which small which is really. Many others caméscopes could have a buzz 32x or thus. Thus this does not make much (and as I said, look at disorder when you employ it in any event). - it is very convenient to have a tiny caméscope which you can bring with you anywhere that you go. - the quality of sound seems normal. So much overall, I am not sure what I still think of this. I am really hoping for me will appear out in the way of doing it in value it. I project to try to thus find an email for the service with the customers I can solve some of these problems.


Love My Flip!!
I bought the Flip for three people as gifts and everyone has called to thank me several times. I also own the Flip and can't remember what it is like not to have one in my daily life. With a two year daughter, I can now catch every moment by having this tiny and user-friendly video camera with me at all times. I already owned a very expensive Panasonic DVD video camera and my Flip puts it to shame.

I hightly recommend it and Amazon has the lowest prices around for the Flip. It is flipping great!


You'll FLIP for flip
I purchased two of these for my children ages 12 and 17. They like to shoot you tube videos. As a photographer myself I was very interested to find out how the video actually came out. To my surprise it is a fabulous little machine. Very simple to use and comes with very simple editing software. I am pleased with the quality of the video. Mind you, you must be in a lit area, outdoors in daylight works well. The only drawback is that there isn't enough zoom, so you have to be close to the subject. I will probably buy a third for myself.


I flip for Flip Video!
Like it! ! ! ! But it is sensitive and you must make sure that it is on a stable surface by connecting the port of USB. If it even just slightly takes down... the poof... you to loosen all your length! : (differently about it is astonishing and SO easy to employ. You have to obtain it!


Better than a camcorder...
I back up the claim I made in the title by saying that when our first child was born, we rushed out and bought a very fancy video camera that has resided in its fancy case for many years. It has always been too complicated to make sure it was charged, make sure the tape was qeued, make sure there was enough tape, turn it on, wait, and then hope the event wasn't over. We basically assigned it to major events like Christmas where it could rest it on a tripod and record from there. Then we discovered the Flip Video Ultra.

When I first saw it, I was sckeptical. I figured it would have crappy video, poor sound, and just basically stink due to its size and price tag. Boy, was I wrong. The next day, while at work, I called home and my wife informed me that our oldest was dancing and singing for our baby and they were laughing together. I longed to see it and knew that she could never get the camera out in time to capture it properly. I knew at that moment that we had a need for this camera. We ordered it, and I was shooting video within 5 minutes of grasping the box. Wow!

Since then, we have been shooting video. Nothing complex, but video that is anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes long. We have been uploading it to our blog...and we are not tech savy! Our blog has gone from a picture blog to a video-only blog overnight. It is amazing. The video is amazingly clear on your PC and not too shabby on your TV either (we have a 27").

I don't use the included software to edit, I instead explore the memory stick and then import that video into Windows Movie Maker. I then save it to my desktop to upload it to my blog. I am sure the software is great, I am just used to the other.

Buy this, get this as a gift, whatever...just own this device. It is truly a gift to the family.


Not Perfect but Pretty Good
I bought this camera for my 12 year old son. Our family has never had a video camera before and this one looked easy to use. It is. The quality of the sound and pictures has been good and it has been a lot of fun to be able to plug the camera into the television and view the videos on the large screen. Our problems have come when we tried to download the videos to our computer. First, the software wouldn't load properly. I read the Read Me file and found a way around that. There is no documentation that actually came with the camera itself. Next, we found that if we try to load a video that is much larger than 2.5 minutes long, we get an error message and we have to shut down the program, take the batteries out of the camera, and start over. We either have to stop the videos every few minutes or break the large videos into short segments to be able to load them. The batteries came with the camera but they do not last very long. However, regular replacement batteries do not last very long either so try lithium batteries or have a back up with you. Overall, I think it is basically a good starter video camera for my son. He's already dropped it twice and it is still working (a padded case will be our next purchase as well as the tripod).


Nifty camcorder nifty price
We saw this on Oprah's favourite things show and went right to the internet to see it. Amazon had the best price of course. When it arrived, I took it out of the box and made a "little movie" of our Christmas decorations for my Mom within three minutes. I went right to the computer, plugged the USB in and emailed to her. the sound is great, it doesn't need much light and it's ridiculously easy to use.
My only reservation is the fact that it takes AA batteries. We don't know yet how long they last. I hope we can use rechargeables. Buy this, it's worth the money. you can carry it anywhere and zippy doo... you have sixty minutes to record. Oh, you can use the included plugs to put it right on the TV. Wow. I just love technology.


Dandy little camera
I purchased this camera for a ski trip. The camera performed fine at very cold temperatures, had it in my ski coat outside pocket. So, below freezing, I was still able to pull out the camera, point and shoot at a moment's notice. Regular alkaline batteries last a lot longer than I anticipated. It takes great pictures at regular zoom, the digital zoom in gets a bit out of focus. I found it very easy to use, easy to get the movies out, and easy on the wallet. The old addage is: you get what you pay for. 1-hour of movies is very sufficient for most of my uses.


(Surprisingly) Fantastic Value and Quality
I purchased the Flip as early Christmas present for my wife.. My goal was to get something we could take videos of the kids with and have it be as easy to deal with capture/storage/burning DVDs as it is with our digital still camera. We have a Mini-DV camcorder and we've never taken the time to get the video off the camcorder, onto the laptop and onto a DVD. It's just a real pain. So, I've wanted for a long time a camcorder that would record to flash memory or HDD but 1) we already had a camcorder and 2) they were expensive. Then I saw the Flip, grabbed one and we spent the month of December, especially the holidays, recording with the intent of producing a DVD at the end of the month.

Last night I burned a DVD with our recordings using the MyDVD software that came with our laptop. Then I put it into my DVD player to watch the videos on our 50" plasma. I expected something very grainy and small. I was shocked when I was greeted with good quality video even on my 50" plasma. The resolution of the camera is 640x480 which amounts to 4:3 480p so it's like watching a SD TV show except to my eye it seemed a little bit better than SD cable but not as good as an SD movie DVD. I was shocked to tell the truth given what we'd paid for it and what I've read about the picture quality.

The Flip has more than exceeded my expectations: it did exactly what I wanted and it made it easy. I can take videos of our family, upload them to our PC through USB and then burn them to DVD to watch on TV. The quality is more than good enough for the price (like I said IMHO something between SD cable and SD DVD) but more than anything it does all the things I wanted to and I didn't have to spend several hundred dollars.

We are VERY happy with our Flip. We now have an easy way to capture our children's childhoods (at least until flash camcorders that do HD come way down in price) -- something we never had as kids. The Flip is surprisingly good and unexpectedly fun.

Some things to know:
- Don't use the zoom. It's not an optical zoom so it just makes the picture quality poor by cropping the image.
- Expect a time-consuming setup. The first time you plug it in it needs to update itself and it takes a while.
- The software is just so-so. It doesn't really come with any decent software so you'll need something like Roxio's MyDVD to edit/burn videos.
- It records to AVI files (MPEG-4) so you can use a much better viewer on your PC than the one that comes with it. I use WinAMP (free).
- You might want to think about that external 500GB USB drive now because this thing eats HDD drive space like it's nothing :-). I think our 250GB WD is going to have company soon.
- The audio is mono
- When viewing with WinAMP it said it was 640x480, 30fps video

[Update] This update doesn't change my review because it's not related to the Flip itself but more to the video format it uses. I am hoping what I went through will help other folks The video files are AVI with the video portion as XVID 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.1. When I upgraded from the Sonic MyDVD 5.5 software to the Roxio MyDVD 9.0 I could no longer view these files or burn them to a DVD. I had to upgrade to Roxio Easy Media Create 10 to get them to work again. Nothing on Roxio's site gave me any indication the upgrade would cause an issue with my files. Only throwing money at it seemed to help the problem. So, if you're using the Flip in combination with MyDVD to burn DVDs just beware it's not because you don't have the right codec or whatever installed. You apparently need MyDVD 10 or maybe even MyDVD9 Premium to view XVID video and create DVDs out of them. It makes me wish the Flip didn't record to such a wonky format but I guess with all the licensing around MPEG-4, AT&T lawsuit, etc. you get what you get as an early adopter. Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (Black)
This is the best gadget for the money. I liked mine so much I have bought several more for gifts. Insert the batteries, included, update on your computer and it is ready to go.
It is so easy to take videos of the moment. I keep my flip in my purse, it is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and it is handy for those "life" moments you want to keep. I also used the Flip for holiday gatherings and the pictures are clear and the vocals easy to hear. No extras are needed. The lighting adjusts to the room ambiance easily. The Flip plugs directly into my computer for download and I have a movie program installed so I burn instant dvd's to share.
This isnt to replace the big expensive camcorders that can zoom in on the big game etc, but for day to day life it is excellent. I put an extra set of AA batteries in my pocket and I am good to go.


Good and bad
I like the visual camera with 2 exceptions. 1. The noise does not take really the words which populate say unless they speak very extremely. 2. The program which is employed to make films freezes 9 times out of 10.


Great
Saved about $50. buying on line. Granddaughter loved for Christmas. She is 10 years old and used all weekend!


The Flip Video
I received the visual caméscope of flick and found it easy to employ directly out of the box. My only felt sorry for is that it is difficult to tighten the red button on the back when you are ready to cease the recording. I recorded my grandmother old of 97 years exposing poetry in front of the Christmas tree. The recording was beautiful, however, when it finished, he took five blows on the button before he finally stopped the recording. This frustrated and required publishing which would not have been necessary if the button had functioned the first time I tightened it. When I connected the flick to my computer it started to download the program to be stopped only to 34% with an error. I stopped, restarted and still tested. It stopped to 34%. I went above to the line site of assistance and discovered that I had to download an update. This took during some time, but it finally made it possible the system to function. I feel that the program could be easier to use, but I was balt to be reproduced more him on my clean. I like the flick and would strongly recommend it!


Great little product!
The Flip is very easy to use. The hardest part was figuring out how to put in the batteries. Two minor complaints: The picture quality isn't terrific in low lighting, but is acceptable. Second, the red record button can be a little hard to press if you have big fingers. Otherwise, I love this thing!

Not Disappointed
After extensive research and being impressed with the quality of some of the online video samples, I decided to purchase the Flip ULTRA Series Camcorder as a gift...come time to record a milestone family event, I surely wasn't disappointed! I felt I made a good investment in return for its simplicity and ease of uploading along with the great quality of the moment that was captured.


Really cool little camera
I ordered this because I wanted to create some very casual videos for publishing on a website being developed. This camera is perfect for that. It is simple to operate and downloading videos to the computer is exceptionally easy.


Love My Flip
I have right receipt my little the flick white the last ultra night. Initially (and this is very very important) you must go to the Web site of flick and download the programme of update of software package. In one nothing time of the whole, I was visual shooting and observation of him on my PC of imper of INTEL. Worked perfectly! ! I like it so much that I buy my pink wife after I finish this review. Obtain for yourself. You "will reverse" too.


trouble with the software
haveing trouble getting the software to work on our computer. It's really too bad because the camera itself is wonderful.


Its amazing
It really work! The image is good and healthy is very good when conected with the computer. I had a video of friend a lunch where I gave a speech. The image and the noise were comparible with a caméscope $1.000 which it also used. Positive I could break an image of the video of other loudspeakers honouring me and include it in my mercy email. If convenient it is incredible.

I just received my flick today and the slope put downwards, it is a great article and came very quickly. My family (and myself)cant believe marvellous quality this small, cheap, visual camera has. I like it and had it in my pocket when we went to make shopping, and the didnt even know that I because his so small. Large article and happy I bought it.


Awesome & easy video camera
I just obtained this for my birthday and it was so easy to employ! I cannot evaluate it that full the 5 however holds the first role because I did not try to however download any of these videos but I guess that it will be like easy right that making the videos. It is a perfect camera to document my new baby when it arrives in February. If easy no matter who will be able to employ it.
