WAIT Don't buy it yet
The flip ultra takes the videos just fine but transferring them to your pc is a nightmare. I checked some consumer sites and I am not the only person having this trouble. Even more ominous is the flip video site is down. The update listed here is therefore unable to be uploaded, rendering the camcorder useless. Hold off buying this until flip gets its act together


Easy to use, decent quality videos
It is easy superb to use well this camera out of the box. That took approximately five minutes to learn all the devices. It uses two batteries of aa. The fixing of him to the computer could not be easier. Since I have already it video to publish the software, I did not take the trouble to install the software which came with the camera. That functions just like any other made numerical camera and puts its files in the shirt of DCIM so that they can be easily copied and stuck like all the other files. This camera will not replace a caméscope of high-end for important events of recording, but it * is * improve for spontaneous videos, doing it video for the sequence, etc... The good: * easy to use * decent video USB integrated * to it of quality * TV produce and include the cable * the tripod produced the bad one: * No slit to add more memory or of disc to a chart of external storage * the audio recording could be a little better (not a business with me since of I overdub usually acoustics in any event)


I loved while it lasted
_ I have buy the flick it there have two week ago, and today after que I it have disconnect starting from the computer, I have observe a video that I have make on the flick when it have suddenly cut... le.and now it turn not behind on me have test all and I know not if it there have a button of handing-over? But while I had it I downloaded all kinds of substance on youtube. though it lasted two weeks? I will so much now buy a im more to 300 dollars, if the nexy break im energy to have shame with me. I hoped for this help.


This is a MUST have if you want to record and share memories!
I first heard about this camera on the Oprah Show and I decided to come here to read the reviews. I have a very expensive Sony mini-DV camera that I have used to record memories over the last several years but my problem has been how to easily convert them to digital. So that is why I was interested in the Flip video camera. After reading the reviews, I felt the Flip Ultra camera was the one for me because it had twice as much memory as the regular camera (plus I like the orange option!)I ordered it and as soon as it arrived, I opened the box and the setup took less than a minute (literally!) I love the fact that it uses 2 AA batteries and then you set the date and time and you are ready to go! As soon as I had it ready to go, my 6 1/2 yr old peeked over my shoulder and said, "ooo, Mommy, what is that?" To which I responded, "my new video camera!" She promptly asked if she could use it (she has been using a digital camera since she was 2) and she was off and made her first video in a matter of minutes. I love the fact that the camera comes with video editing/sharing software that works on Mac or PC and it is super easy to use. The one thing that I would echo from the other reviewers is that it is a GREAT idea to buy the USB extension cable because it could be too easy to break off the USB connection arm if you don't. I didn't purchase the Flip branded cables because I didn't see the need to have it color coded so I bought the Cables to Go version for less money Cables To Go - 19003 - 1M USB A Male to A Female Extension Cable (White) and am very happy with that. Since my daughter is so delighted with the camera, I think that I may have to purchase another camera so that I can use it! As my boss says, this is "cold dead finger technology". You are going to have to pry this out of my cold dead fingers before I will give it up!


Pocket Movies, Why not?
The light weight, the looking at recreation, enough devices, the nondifficult ones, and which needs superb films of high quality all the moment when fasten short and precise are simply good? The flick creates films of good quality, simple catch it (usb) and stores the files or recreates fasten in a film with built in the software of Muvee. Or leave right it in a way ordered in your pocket of shirt, just if you would see something interesting remembering or showing with far.

This is a most amazing product. Very convenient for spontaneous moviemaking. My kids really love it. My seven year old is having the time of her life taping herself.

Great little camera!
I love this little camera. I have 2 other camcorders and I never use them. I have to worry about charging them, bringing the bag, gear, etc. I'm terrible at it and as a result have little video of my kids, family and friends. I have captured more video in 2 months of having this camera than in 5 years of my other cameras. It's not a fancy camera. Not great for distance or fancy shots. But that's not how I use it. It does exactly what I need - saves video and sound of special occasions and candid moments. Features I love - small (fits in my purse), AA batteries (no charging, lasts a while), easy download (USB attached, prompts the software), easy to store (gives you a library format for saving files), easy to email (compresses the files so you can easily email them), good sound, and clear picture. This was clearly made with the YouTube generation in mind. I have not done much editing although I think the software it comes with is very limited. I really don't have one complaint. The only thing I would suggest for future models is to have some type of removable memory. I could see needing more than 60 minutes for vacation and not having a computer available to download. Overall, highly recommended. Great gift for new parents, teenager, college student, etc.


Good
Up to now I am happy with the flick itself but, the image of the case was fallacious. I did not obtain the white case which is closed. I received a black case with a closing of cord. When I placed my order I intended to obtain what was in the image thus although that functions it is not the color or the model which I wanted and thought I obtained. If their outward journey to make substitions that I feel they should to at least send you let an E-mail and you know thus you can change your order if you do not want their substitution.


Everyone needs one.
I bought this with the intention to appreciate just fascinating videos. A caméscope which was simple and easy to work. BECAUSE I am not a professional.It upwards finished being much more. My mother died last week. I had the practice the FLICK to record my last periods with it. I came to the house and very easily charged it on my computer. Quality was large. I will always make also note that with me now.I which it was the cheaper on the Amazon. Thank you.


why did I wait so long?
This compact video recorder takes amazingly clear videos. It's easy to use...easy to view...easy to put online. It's small enough to take anywhere so you don't miss all those moments you shouldn't. Great for kids and school projects!! A must have!!


Great Camera to take anywhere
I bought the flick for my boy friend for Christmas after having seen an advertisement for it on amazon.com. It had not never had a visual camera before and uses hardly its numerical camera, thus I were not sure if it went to like him. But, it finished to the top liking it. It employs it all the hour. It is so easy to download the videos, too. Very that you is taken change-outside the USB in your computer. After the holidays, we could divide our videos with all the two our families by downloading them right top with each computer. The quality of the video is very good too. When we obtained the flick, there was a black spot on the screen. It did not wound the quality of visual recording, but was annoying because you could not completely look at the videos on the screen. The Amazon was very convenient about sending a replacement. They did not give me any argument and it did not cost me something for the replacement. I would buy all my electronics here!


Great product!
I bought this as a birthday gift for my partner, and he absolutely adores it! It's super easy to use, comes w/ batteries in the box, and we've had no problems so far. His 13-year old nieces thinks it's the coolest thing on the earth, and he's the envy of his guy friends (he's 40 btw). We've had lots of fun bringing it to social events. I highly reccommend.


Hum . . .
Nice little movie maker, but . . .
Looks cool. Takes great movies, --but the software is junk. I can't upload to pc or mac the conventional way--or the 'flip' way. Their upgrades don't work either. Shah, --our IT guy at work couldn't even make it work. I have, however, found a way to save the movies. Have to go through the back door, which has its own rewards? I think I'll keep her--'till I get a notion to go in the front.

WOW WOW WOW!
I was very very skeptic on buying this caméscope but now that I have it I do not regret making the decision. This Baby ROCKS! The quality of image is good and them a its total good interpreter THANK GOD whom I made the good purchase after careful examinations of various products costing 2 to 3 times as much. Must admit that the size of the screen of review is not the best wish than they made it ask in the screen of 2.5 inches but for the price you BEVELLED more. I normally NEVER write never a review but for this visual camera of flick I just had to make you knowledge types.... Large product, easy to employ and enough small to take it Anywhere with you. Very applied!


Great fun!
All I can honestly say, I will never again even think of bringing out huge (relatively speaking here) HD-every-possible-gimmick-camcorder to try and capture the everyday precious moments! Flip does an awesome job, requires no effort to use, and is really practical.


Nice product, bad software
I just obtained my video of flick today. Visual quality once played behind on my TV or computer looks at really nice for the size and the price of the product. The problem is me cannot obtain the software to install on my computer. The multiple people said that they cannot obtain the videos to play without running them by the software. The files simply play the fine right for me in the traditional one of player of media of Windows (free remote loading on the google as an element of the package of codec of klite) by trailing them just and while dropping on my computer. The price, could not require a small more convenient caméscope, and even if the software installed it is not really any good for anything but the videos and me transfering seem to have solved this problem, thus combination, I am happy.


lousy camera
I bought one of those Flip cameras. If you are planning to purchase one, don't do it. I own an Apple and I can't access their software without a down loading extra software which I can't download. So now I'm stuck with a camera that won't let me do what the company had promised. This company sucks. I am very disappointed in Amazon for advertising this camera. I bought it basically because I trust Amazon. Am I the only one who has found this outfit a rip off? Also it is almost impossible to see the viewing screen in bright sunlight. Very dissatisfied in this camera and Amazon.

Great product, great price
This is the second flip video camera we've bought for our 12 year old - who uses them to make movies for youtube and upload. We upgraded to this product from the original because we wanted the tripod feature - not an option on the original flip camera. This is so easy to use. I highly recommend if you have a youngster that wants to make movies - creates great images and sound for not a lot of money.

Handy video camera
This is a great little video camera. We bought it to replace the ancient Sony Handycam that stopped working years ago. I liked the idea of being able to transfer the video clips immediately to the computer or a DVD, as I am currently trying to transfer several little super 8 cassettes to DVD's, which requires a working handycam. I also like that this little video camera uses regular and rechargeable batteries.
I did have problems with the first camera I received: it kept locking up my computer, even after downloading a required update. I couldn't get access to the programs that are loaded on the camera for editing, uploading, etc. So I returned that first one, and was happy that the second one worked fine- no problems at all with the computer, or the camera itself.
This camera is great if your looking for something thats easy to use, transport around and is not hi-tech.





so much fun
I'm pretty bad with anything fancy including all the cellphones so I was a bit afraid to get started with this at first. But the instructions were so easy that within minutes I was already recording a video. So far I have recorded lots of videos of my family and travels (got to Bali even)and I've uploaded them to my computer and yesterday I even emailed 12 of them at one go to my daughter so she can find them online and doesn't have to download them either. I still haven't figured out how to attach the cord to hold the thing and haven't used it with my tv either. I finally learned how to get it to record by just holding the red button until it started! The Flip website had material to download to make the whole experience easier and I did that and just haven't had any problems. The first two batteries lasted for a month with a lot of usage too. I think my daughter would like one of these too although she is using her digital camera for video.


Flip Camera means you don't have to miss ANYTHING
I ordered this camera the day after my small nephew of baby (for whom we are the "grandfathers" for my legally died brother and sister.) It was in rare form -- acting idiotic and to make song... that irreplaceable "substance" going back to 18 months this can never describe you amply. We will not miss more thing after this camera of flick. It is lighter than my telephone of cells, join the size of a blackberry, and it video surprisingly LARGE of catches. I employed with work for a function of building of team of group and I have enough length to really embarrass people with the next part of Christmas! It needs a better type of belt of sport, but he could not be easier to employ. I like it and will probably never trail the visual camera outside still. Obtain it! !


Why lose the viewfinder?
I saw this camera today as my boss just got one. I was wowed until I realized there's no viewfinder. I believe many digital cameras are going this route and I don't get it. My 52 year old eyes are presbyopic, a natural occurrence if one lives long enough; I can't focus up close without reader glasses. I could use the viewfinder, if available, without glasses. Also, how does one see the screen in bright sunlight? If it's like my cell phone, one can't. Another reason for keeping viewfinders. My 2 cents.


Terrific
All which you could provide in a shirt-pocket-classified device which is at the same time remarkably inexpensive. The optics/resolution is excellent, healthy just fine collection. An important consideration is the intern-produced platform of computer, which makes it easy to transfer and to dispatch the whereever images there is a computer. I bought this for ten years. He and his/her younger brother made publishing work before you knew it.


Failed
I just received my 80 ultra and that does not function. The noise proceeds it video by approximately 2 seconds. The video does not exploit my video of Microsoft (the last edition). The E-mail did not play once not sent. The recommendation of technology of support, to fix the problem, did not fix the problem. The only good thing that I can say is that it video played well by using the fast time of apples. I guess that I just obtained a bad unit.


Astonishing
The Flip Video is an amazing product. The quality of the pictures and audio is remarkable, coming from a 2" x 4" camcorder with solid state storage instead of mechanical tape or disk, an hour long capacity in the Ultra model (adequate for most occasions), two AA cells for power, simple controls and zoom capability, easy connection to computer and TV, it is hard to find anything to criticize. Oh, yes. The playback audio from the internal speakers of the camera itslf is nearly inaudible, but OK on computer or TV.


Fun and easy to use.
This little camera is so much fun. Without even seeing mine, I got my brother to purchase one to on recommnedation alone. Great buy!


Great product, lousy customer service at FlipVideo
This is a fabulous product. It's incredibly easy to use (especially if the software functions properly, which it didn't with our first FlipVideoUltra purchase). You can capture short, remarkably high quality videos with the click of a button. Saving them to your hard drive is really easy, too, although figuring out how to email them is a bit more challenging and takes a few more steps. Our one big complaint is that FlipVideo's customer service, in a word, sucks. We tried to get help when we initially had trouble loading the software and the rep was really unhelpful. After an hour, she ended up referring us to their Tech help...via email! They didn't respond at all and it took us trying to load software from a friend's FlipVideo to realize the fault was in our camera's software set up--we returned it and the replacement functions perfectly. We also submitted an entirely different question to FlipVideo via their online interface...and received no response. The good news is that this camcorder is very intuitive, for the most part....but only if the software works! :-)


FlipVideo a winner
This small cam provides sharp picture and adequate sound.
I use the Ultra 60 minutes model and purchased the small tripod for the unit. It is a practical method of recording a pictorial record of your valuables and to capture events indoor or outdoor.
The flip USB connection is ingenious.
The red button to start/stop is not at the best location but it works.
My unit did not fuction well due to firmware error. After several discussions with their support, I found out how to download the correct firmware from their site. It is working fine since then. Recommended.


Easy to set-up, Easy to use, and Expectations met
With open Juste the box 30 minutes ago... that it was a breeze to be installed and employ. I had read all the reviews concerning the difficulty that some had to install the device and attache during a difficult time, but had met any. Here some remarkable points: (video 1)Flip seems to it to have already updated the software packages on the device because when I tried to charge the levelling, a message seemed saying it was already on this level. (2) I did not have any problem using the button "red" record of video as reported by others criticize. Frankly, compared with the keys on my blackberry 8800, it was a breeze to be functioned. (3) I did not have any problem to take it video and to employ it in the automatic producer 6 of Muvee as some others criticize noted. The only turn is that I had to save the first video time it as "mixes film" employing the visual software of flick (which is really stripped in bottom of the version of Muvee publishing the software in any event). Once that I did this, I had entered able it video the automatic producer 6 of Muvee, publishes out of the parts of the video, and make differently than I wanted to make. (4) visual quality, is not as good as a more expensive video tape recorder of FD, but rather decent quality for "videos of family" this glance just very well on my liquid crystal display TV of 52". In short, I strongly recommend this device. It is small, inexpensive, and is produced videos any use decent. You can bet that it will be in my pocket for sporting events of nearest child, over holidays of family, etc...


Updated firmware---still having issues....
I did not provide that the miracles with this product... I simply wanted a manner inexpensive to record short videos mainly for the use on my computer or YouTube. I have a numerical camera of Sony which does an average work with videos, but after reading of all the reviews 5-to hold the first role on the Amazon, I decided to buy the ultra flick. Several of the reviews here upwards state exits with the software of flick closing with key, but I felt reassured after reading of the flick that there is an update of software package what solves this. I have successfully updated the software before videos downloading at my computer and AM ALWAYS testing exits. Initially with far, I have a new portable computer of Dell which runs Windows Vista. However, the flick declared that the recent update of software package solved the exit-equal software with Vista. The exits which I always test: - the software will close with key upwards. It enables me to draw the videos from the flick to my computer, but once there, the playback is very slow or does not function at all. I will strike the button of "play" and it freezes. I took 3 videos today that I cannot observe because it will freeze. - simply navigation by the menu of software of flick is painful. It takes extremely long (if it does not freeze to the top completion) to choose different the videos, to go between the film manufacturer to the options of division, etc... Extremely frustrating. - the software defabrication (still, when that functions -- sometimes the result be a white film which not play) will automatically truncate my videos at 20 seconds length. I am not sure if it is how one it cense to function, but I doubt him. - visual quality is waste. Still, I did not await the videos perfect and crunching which I would obtain on a caméscope-Juste expensive better than my numerical camera. It looked at very well on the tiny screen of the flick, but in the past on my computer there were lines in the video, the blurriness and an "approximate" glance General. Even when I filmed in luminous lighting. Once that I downloaded these videos with YouTube, quality decreased other further. My numerical camera of Sony does a better work. - the button of recording is annoying (the need to tighten firmly) and the buzz is useless (I counted that for the price) but I could come to end that if the product functioned. - it was difficult to insert USB in the ports on my computer- felt as it was a tight adjustment. Moreover, the manner the ports are arranged on my portable computer, I cannot have the flick connected and my adaptor of power was connected at the same time (to obstruct, but me can obtain the surplus which too much). The pro: - small, nice (I obtained it pink) and easy to carry with you anywhere. - easy to employ (when work of software). - I like the capacity to download videos with YouTube directly. I hope that my unit is defective (since it re-examined such an amount of there 5-to hold the first role, I hope that it is the case? ?) and asked that exchange of the Amazon it for nine.


Love the Flip
I bought ultra and that did not function correctly. The Amazon exchanged ANY PROBLEM. Second is ultra large. It is contract, easy to employ but I found it a little to confuse to download and to announce on a Web page After a certain use, its problem A of not detailed the manual operators would be has more. Will buy some for the gift. Large for all the ages..teens above upwards.


This camera has a universe of potential.
The flip video was given to me as a christmas present and right away I could see the many things I could do with it being forcasted in my head...


Ok the ease of use and "what it is is what it is." Makes up for the lack of some features. What I'd really like to see is AUDIO INPUT! Nothing suites me more like being able to record a 480 video with my own microphone. Okay, I know the mic is great, but think if I were at a preformance for an indie rock band and I wanted to have their set shown on myspace and all I could get was just the shortwaves of overbearing loudness being jerked around in binary mis-mixing and screeches. It's like everyone camera phone video you've ever listened to the audio off of, horrid. Okay, so besides the fact that digital isn't like analog and has a limit to decibals you can input, (following sony's handycam audio mishaps) there was one other feature I would have liked to have seen, STILLS! Okay, come on. there is no reason I can't have a still setting. I could have photos and video at 480! That's been my standard since I was born, 480! I don't even care about high definition at this point, 480 isn't distracting and the photos for what they are would appear nice. I guess you can isolate frames, but I am pretty sure this records in MPEG, which FILLS IN some frames, rendering a compression to minimize hard drive usage. So you can get stills, but not really like a digital camera and certainly not as effective.

This camera is great, there is an underwater attatchment for 50 bucks and it's now my primary video recorder. Screw DVC, there is no imperative reason for not replacing tape stock with recorded dvds or thumb drives. I'd like to see this thing in future models have a mic input so I can use a shotgun to record interviews with it. I hope panasonic buys flip video, they'd be making a good decision.

Welcome to the future, I would have killed for something like this for 145 dollars when I was a kid. Time to show the world what you can do!


The Proof Is In the Videos
The flick is ultra a small powerful video tape recorder. I obtained this during my 13 years old man and it seldom was out of its hands since. It is vigorous, small enough for its pocket, enough goods to take an involuntary blow or two and taken beautiful videos. Memory 60 minute is perfect and the film remote loading with the facility. Add in it is smooth design and you have yourself one gaining. You cannot beat the value and the results will astonish you. It is not a toy, it takes really nice and clear videos. Each one should have one, it is that good.


Brilliant idea, thoroughly inept execution.
I bought this so that my wife employs for stripping impromptu girls during Christmas, appear that the it' D is more handy than a conventional caméscope. We were struck what (what I later learned) the usual problem: it will freeze during the visual remote loadings. We sent it inside to Flipvideo (the OH, how I wish myself had returned it to the Amazon for a refunding). 4 weeks later, we received (after having missed any chance with the stripping of holidays due to a defective camera of camera)the. Well, you can probably guess what occurred: the new camera also freezes during the visual remote loadings. Somebody cut some corners building these pups. This product could - must have been brilliant. Instead of that it is large, to disappoint, frustrating the failure. I should add that when it is connected to the USB it does not run the power of USB, instead of that continues inside to run the batteries. I should know knows, after having seen it running of the batteries in the ground while it (without end) tries to download the videos. Moreover, although they promised to remove the preceding videos camera and to send them on a DVD, Flipvideo did not make a any such thing. They left the videos on the camera, and since known as continues to function badly...


Awesome camcorder!!!
This little unit is Awesome!! It is so simple I didn't need the directions, at all!!. The video and audio quality is remarkably excellent. The software is simple and cleverly designed. I didn't need directions for that either.
I expected to pay 3 times the price for this quality.

Flip for the Flip
I bought the camera for the school. It could not be easier to employ -- actuate the button, disc, play, refuse. When you want to download, noise right out of the USB and to stick it in the computer. The film rate is not large for the fast movements, but quality is nice and for the size and the money you cannot well better do.


The Fantastic Flip
I'm in love with this little gagit - It's light and compact enough to ride around in my purse, making it always at the ready for that random video documentation. The editing and internet posting software it comes with is incredibly easy to use and fun to mess around with - you can even set your video montage to music of your choosing. My only wish is that it had some sort of attached lighting system for darker settings, but daytime/indoor shots are always clear and the sound quality is great. Yay Flip!


Pretty neat for its purpose
It was one present of Christmas during my 9 old years who continued to exhaust the chart of memory on my camera of point and growth to take videos of his friends, animals stuffed, etc... Since I am all about leaving his abnormal fly of flag, I decided to give him his own camera and to encourage this behavior. This camera was large to this end. The lack of a chart of standard deviation did not import. The majority of the videos at the house longer than 5 minutes will never obtain still observed in our house. The only complaint is that you cannot FF or REW in a video while reviewing it on the camera. We employed the software of edition and is it what you would count for the price. Export in format MPEG-4 is large for the division of the videos that even my mom can open of an email.


The Flip Video Ultra
Took this to the Dominican Republic and took about 5 hours of fantastic videos. Sharp as can be. Easy to use. I just downloaded the videos onto a laptop and had enough video time for the whole week. Would recommend this to anyone. Every one on the trip wanted one and I'm sure half of them bought it.

Don't buy if you're on a Mac
I had high hopes for the Flip and bought one right before my baby boy's first Christmas. It's easy and no frills. Great stuff. Then I tried to download. It was a mess and the only way out was to reboot. After hours of tries I never got it to work. Finally I checked and learned they had a patch to fix these problems. Only.... the Mac version wouldn't come out until January. OK, it's February now and I found the patch. IT'S ONLY FOR LEOPARD! What? The idea with this camera was to make things simple. My experience was anything but.


I'm A YouTuber and LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!
After reading all the comments about the FLIP camera, I was very reluctant about getting this to help me create my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb on YouTube" video series. I've been wanting to take the show on the road and do more than just static videos. So, I decided to take a chance and get this!

The quality of the video is outstanding for the price and size of this camera. And the best part is it stabilizes the video for you automatically so you don't have the "Blair Witch Project" syndrome with a shaky camera. I shot a video the other day of cooking low-carb fried chicken and the FLIP camera got me right in the action while I was cooking. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!

But even better was how easy it was to upload the video to my computer and then to YouTube. I have an iMac (yes, to all those crybabies who say this camera doesn't work with a Mac--WRONG!) and flipped out the USB port on the side of the camera to connect to my computer. There was no software to install and it came right up on the computer. I easily imported the video footage I had shot into iMovie and produced my YouTube video show as normal. IT WAS SO SUPER SIMPLE!!!

If you are into shooting casual videos, then you HAVE to get this camera. It will add so much to my YouTube video series and I look forward to using it early and often. You WON'T be disappointed!

I was so excited.
It is a large small product to be had if you project on carrying it around in your purse for fast videos. If it is quality you please then your outward journey duty spend little more money and obtain a true visual camera. I like it cause that it is small and conveniant, obtain what you pay basically.


Lasted 97 days. Warning to Buyers
Video bought of flick ultra October 30, 2007. The unit died February 6, 2008 right a few days after the 90 days guarantee expired. Connects themselves to and is recognized by computer but simply does not transfer anything to or from the computer. Very unhappy, would buy never yet. Moreover, the original software charged on top was obsolete when I received it, updated that, and discovers now that still another update of help is necessary. The problem is updated help also will not work. Other disadvantages with this piece of terribly designed refuse are that the arm of usb builds on him will not adapt ports of usb of computer unless you held the unit beside the port physically or buy a cable of prolongation of usb (if you not the arm of usb stop the device). Does not have moreover any port to allow the use of charts etc. standard deviation to increase the visual capacity. Very unhappy. Buy another thing.


Do NOT Buy a FLIP video Camera
I bought the flick in November. Little after I could not copy my videos in addition to camera. Eventaully people of flick made me send the camera to them. They almost broke their arms with the pride to fix successfully my camera and to save my videos MARRIAGE. They said that they embarked the camera in December. It never arrived. After many attempts to reach these people they required of me to describe the videos and they "would look at around and see whether the camera were there". No answer again. The nearest time that I am enquis sent a new camera and all kinds of accesories to me as excuses until my camera was found. Maintaining it is February and always no camera. They never answer my E-mail, and if I call they indicate that "we will send this up to the executive level". I am assured that somebody will be in contact. But they are never. In this moment I will return the camera of replacement and will recommend it to each one to never buy not the camera of flick.


Crazy easy and fun!
It seems inadequate to make an examination writes something which makes it so easy to make a visual review! Right received my flick today, and immediately proceeded to make, download, and download several videos. This tiny and inexpensive device is simple to use and does what it promises. I am very happy with him!


Nifty Gadget
Referred to as "the shoot and share camcorder," this nifty hand-held gadget is about the size of my MP3 player and is really easy to use. (And I am technologically challenged.) I actually figured it out all by myself without going through feelings of extreme inadequacy. My biggest hurdle this time was getting the box open (actually, finding the nerve to open the box).

It comes with a fabric pouch to carry it in (or you could buy a small inexpensive sturdy camera case). It also comes with a small hand-strap and cable connectors to attach to the TV, if you want to. There is a quad-fold start guide and a website for customer support. Oh! And it comes with 2 regular Duracell AA batteries!--so no special batteries to buy. (Note: the pamphlet recommends Energizer e2 Lithium AA batteries, which are also pretty easy to find.) The unit itself is about 1" deep, about 6" long, and about 3" wide. Kind of reminds you of a hand-held digital camera, which it kinda is (except no SanDisk for the pix, you just download pix/video to your PC). It has a switch on the side that you slide and a USB port flips out, hence, "Flip Video" gadget. You flip the switch again, and it pops back in. It captures 60 minutes of video (I thought I saw 2 gig somewhere) and runs down the remaining time on the screen so you can tell what you have left.

The box claims that you have one-touch recording, 2 x digital zoom, instant playback and delete. It claims that you can launch built-in software, snap still photos from videos, make custom movies, watch instantly on TV, get DVDs made at stores, email videos and publish online. They state you can also upload your videos to AOL or YouTube.

Although I have not tested all the features yet, I did point and shoot a video and delete it, and it was painless. Yes, it does have sound and you can use a tripod with it if you like. The zoom feature is only 2 x digital, but it works. You can also easily set a time and date to the gadget when you initially start it up.

It's a nifty gadget you can slip into your pocket or purse. Welcome to the 21st Century!

I love my flip it's small cute and i carry mines everywhere, u never know when your going 2 see something intresting.


The software doesn't work
I tried to install the software for this camera on 4 different machines: - large, professional running of xp of recent working station of Dell - a tiger running 10.4 of working station of Macintosh G4 - a current professional of xp of older computer portable of Dell - tiger running 10.4 of powerbook of imper a pro on all the platforms, the initial one install did not work (stopped with errors) - or if it, all the functions of the camera which were announced to take 10 or 15 minutes would have really run during 10 or 15 HOURS (according to the calculated period of the achievement once the number jumped upwards.) Thus the camera is useless for me for any interaction of computer. After having said that, the camera itself was a very pleasant surprise having then read some of the negative reviews. The mine really seems to be a pretty small full unit - apparently in value well beyond what I paid him. I think, given is the function, the image and audio quality is surprisingly good - definitely better than any video produced by telephone of cells than I saw, for sure. Another positive note - support of technology seems to hang with me to try to fix my problem - except which I must interpret all their instructions for the imper since I cannot convince them that I do not work with a PC (I just balanced the account on trying to obtain this to work in Macbook pro.) Being given the reviews in general, I am happy to see I am obviously in the minority with this problem - I suppose that this will culminate on a replacement of camera. - the update of software package of P.S. The of Al did not solve any of my problems one or the other.


Good, but not good enough.
I'd be surprised if someone received a Flip that wasn't defective.
Mines works OK but there's something up with the time and upload features.
Sometimes after I upload the video clip and remove my Flip from the PC, I quickly look at the video in the flip and its gone?(Sometimes). I recommend that everyone buys this product at a store where they could return it if there's a problem with it(Best Buy). Overall, it has great quality and its very small and light. It works best for V-Logging from your home/office.


Excellent product - excellent customer service/support!
My kids obtained the caméscope of flick for Christmas, and employed it direct since. Visual and audio quality is surprisingly good, and the caméscope is rather rough so that my 5yo employs without too much nail-biting on my part. But the most astonishing thing about the product is the SERVICE which is behind him. We had an exit with losing memory of caméscope (not the defect of the device - my kids dropped it several times!), and service PLEASE at pure DIGITAL wedged with us until we obtained the fixed problem. I was very happy with the speed and the helpfullness of the personnel of support, more especially as the problem was completely our defect! VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!


Not Very Good. Too many bugs!
I bought this camera because I sought something which was simple to employ, with acceptable quality. This camera is missing, even at the price. After all, you can more obtain "a true" visual camera with a GOOD NUMBER of devices for approximately $80. Problem 1: The software which came with him was not compatible with my computers of Windows.xp or Vista. In fact, the only thing which the "software" was converted the visual file with the format of avi. Even it was the result of the conjecture and not because the instructions or the software were useful. You must run the software, which then does not function, but, it converts your file while it is in the course of "conclusion" that that will not function. MAJOR PROBLEM 2: In quiet arrangements, such as a room, the camera records its own internal noises of storage. All the few seconds you hear that to make strange and VERY apparent bleep-bleep this hard during approximately a second. This means that you will not be able to use this camera to make a video decent (unless there is enough ambient noise to drown out of the small odd noise of processor which is the most likely one glare of the data being recorded on the internal storage). Thus, you cannot employ it for work, or make videos of instruction, or do any others videos where the quality of sound is equal remote a factor. Problem 3: There is a very REAL problem with the large button of disc of red. It is not recorded correctly when you push it. You can think that you record because you are certain that you pushed it firmly, but, there the camera rests in mode of a "loan", not in mode of "rec". The people of FLICK knew this problem of switch for a long time, because it with being always a problem is inexcusable. My synopsis is that the camera is practically useless. It does not charge automatically of the videos above with YouTube, or any other Web site. The software is a worked object which does not work on the computer. In the second place, the intolerable electronic noise which makes this video useless except like a toy. And, to finish, the ridiculously insensitive RED BUTTON which orders the disc and the function of stop. Positive side, it is small, will store a little length, and you can let your kids play with it because it is not as they will ruin something of valid.


So Easy To Use
This is the most easiest video camera to use. I have owned the vhs camera, the mini dvd camera and this is by far the best. No bulky items to haul with, just point and record. Instant playback. I have the 60 minute one and I record a lot of my grandchildren's action with that. I love it. I would highly recommend this to everyone! Once you try this, you won't go back to anything else.


Videos of Frank, particles, waves
I got this for one reason, and one reason only. Frank. The camera is drawn to him. Yes. He is a tad overweight. Yes. He drinks to much.

I first started filming Frank on my cell phone, when he was eating corn. His bites were methodical and precise, his execution complete, not a kernal remained. Eye contact with the camera all the way through. I lost that phone and the memories contained within it while on a trip. It's somewhere in Central America.

Moving on. I haven't seen Frank since getting this camera, so it is tough to adequately review it. I did break up with a girl that I shot a video of, so from that point of view, it will give a lasting imprint. No. Not that kind of video.

Videos are windows into events that occurred at some point. But...is the presence of the camera in and of itself altering those being viewed? I suspect many of you are looking for something to capture life's little moments - a quickly growing child, a vacation, perhaps a video of you watching your favorite show (yes. So postmodern). Think twice. This act of observance changes that which is being observed. Heidenberg, I think. So? Are you a wave or a particle.

Think on it.

This product functions as announced. It is excellent for the note taking, documenting a case of harassing and acting idiot, if you are in the thing of Youtube.


Cool easy-to -use gadget
I just got my flip ultra and its been up and running in 5 minutes. Unlike a lot of other users with software issues, I didn't encounter any problems. But I did download the flip update from their website before I took any videos and with the updated software, there were no problems. The video and sound seem fine for a device costing 150 bucks. And I already have a bunch of fun mixes in 10 minutes !

Picture quality is great and sound is good too. Easy to use, had it figured out in like 2 minutes. Get the 60 minute version its worth it. for this price you cant beat it


Great Little "Keep it in my Purse" Camcorder
My "good" camcorder, a Sony miniDV died last month, just as I started creating my own video podcast on my website. Replacing it outright would have cost over 5 hundred dollars, something I didn't have. After hearing raves about the Flip from a friend, and reading reviews here, I decided that this would be a good placeholder camera until I could afford a good one.

I have to tell you, for what looks like a little toy camera, the quality of the video has amazed me. No, it's not the same quality as my Sony, but I did not buy this camera looking for MiniDV quality.

I can provide a list of things I wish the Flip Ultra had, but I know darned well that to get those things would add 100-200 more dollars to the price.
- So no, there's no real zoom, and using the digital 2x zoom is pointless and destroys the quality of the picture. But I haven't done any filming that required true zoom.
- Being able to use SD cards in addition to the built in memory would be fantastic. The 2 gig (1 hour) memory on the Ultra was more than enough for a full road trip to Maine - we didn't come close to using it all up.
- The sound quality could be a little better, but I have no problem hearing it, and when I edit the movies on my Mac, I just boost the volume manually as needed. And it isn't always needed.

One of the big benefits of the Ultra is that the files save in AVI format, so I plug it into my Mac, drag the files over, and no translation of any kind is required. (I do not have this luxury with my son's Aiptek camera, a competitor for the Flip. I need to use software to grab those files.)

One hint - we had purchased some dollar store batteries around the holidays and I used them in the Flip and the side effect was that it started to freeze up on me. I don't think the batteries were providing enough consistent power to the camera. I pulled those out and put in name brand "electronics" level AA batteries and all the freezing up problems immediately went away. Don't cheap out on the batteries. They seem to last a fairly long time, and you can always get rechargeables.

Our family employed this in Christmas and us all liked it. Easy to employ, large videos marks.


Amazing for the money
I looked at the flip ultra for a while before deciding to pick one up. I was excited I did within minutes...but blown away within hours. We were on our way back from a short trip out of state. I picked it up at a Best Buy and started filming in the car within about 2 minutes of starting to open the package. I filmed several random shots of my wife and daughter on the way home. I walked in and sat down at my MacBook Pro and wanted to see how easy this would be. EASY.

The camera appeared on my desktop, I opened the drive, drug the video files into iMovie, and went straight to editing with no conversion. (However I did already have Divx installed)

The footage was better than I expected. The video with decent to good lighting looked about how I had expected, but the lower light video looked better than I could have imagined. Sure, it wasn't great...but it was low light.

For the money this was a must have for me. I own an older and fairly high end DV camera and I'm researching a new HD camera now. The thing is, sometimes you can't get to those...or you don't want to carry them around. This camera is small, great quality, and easy to operate. We leave it lying around so if the kids start to do something we can grab it and be filming in seconds.

My wife wants her own and our 8 year old is trying to convince me that she needs one as well. The thing is, she probably does.

Pros:

Easy to use Flip Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-minutes
I bought several of these Flip Ultra camcorders for Christmas presents for our family members spread over the world. They are excellent, easy-to-use, and pocket-sized, so we can take them everywhere. A great product!


nice design and easy to use
I bought this video for my husband as a Christmas gift. He liked it pretty good and start to use it right away.It seemed easy enough to use. it didn't take a second to find out how to use it.

After 3 exchanges, this last unit which I obtained behind from the flick functions finally now. I think that they updated the software packages or no matter what. 10 holds the first role for their support of technology. The only disturbance was to seek a store of UPS to embark the thing behind; and, missed the chance to take it at THESE 2008 to take certain a video. OTOH, I strongly recommend this caméscope (when that functions naturally) that it is small. It is classified pocket. It is easy to employ. With the difference of other marks, there is nothing to reverse outside before you can employ it. The quality of image is not bad. The execution of low light is very good. It comes with a hole from metal tripod. And to test the unit, I directed it to my TV once and it took a video 2-hours with the batteries of aa before the batteries became exhausted. The software which comes with the flick is very good too. To the bottom of side, the batteries become very hot when I short leave it during 2 hours. There is no stabilization of image. Thus, you have better a regular hand to hold the caméscope. But it is not principal. The principal problem is that the negative wire of battery inside the right compartment of battery is flat and it is placed inside the plastic frame. Sometimes some of the refillable batteries of aa (those which have a flat bottom) cannot make the contact with the negative wire. Naturally the flick cannot match the execution of Sanyo XACTI which I saw in THESE 2008. but for 1/10 of the prices of Sanyo, the flick is one gaining.


Flippin' Fun
I bought this product because the major part of my family lives far far from me. My kids are in the college and are implied in many various activities. The videos that I take and the share with my family are priceless and much better than just a decription verbal. The videos are very clear and the software very easy to employ. The fact that it will condense the videos for the email is still better. Ah, and the kids like to employ it too much to share events with their friends. Each one likes to be seen on the video. My only problem is up to now the envelope before where you change the batteries fell while I took it video of the ski of family. With my gloves above I did not note that I opened really the compartment and did not lose him.


Worthless Junk, Poor Customer Support
My experiment with my camera of flick is nowhere near like rougeoyer as many reviews announced. Unfortunatley, I am also after the date warrenty, thus I am wedged with this small paper weights. The purchaser take guard. I took some fasten my Grandaughter and decided to put them on my computer. The apparatus-photo-built-in interface was raised the first time and then imediately has upwards cold. To inform instantaneous of instruction of an update of software package appeared, and when the update achieved, from the guides of edition and saving "flick" were gone, with two of the three fasten. Staples remaining in a way or other saved like file of player of media of windows. But the "easy ones to download" with the panel of YouTube which was at the origin there of flick, with the easy flick publish tools disappeared. The email to be reversed did not give me only I can employ to fix the problem. All the replys are technology-speak inside, which on the left I with a product which was obviously thrown on the market before all the bugs were removed. Sans.valor.


Great Camera!
I love it b/c I am on the go and it is small, light and so easy to use. I have 5 kids and it is great to video immediately and watch immediately. We end up watching the video more than we ever did with the cassette taping video cameras of days past. It's about time!


CHristmas Bonus
I bought this camera for my husband while it was going to see his family for Christmas and I was going to be able not to make the voyage because of work. It finished to the top of that which I went length and we obtained the big length of the whole family the Christmas Day that I could then divide with my family as well. It was very easy to use this camera and we could download our length on each one computer of other so that they could have a copy. Quality seems also large on my 37"tv.


No Rechargeable Battery
My Experience with cameras with no rechargeable battery is awful.
If you use them alot the battery might not even last a 60 min give or take a bit depending on the camera.
With coppertop duricells and lets face it lithiums are really expencive.
Your wasting your money on batteries.
Save yourself the headache get a camera with a rechargeable battery.


Did not FLIP and returned
Reverse the caméscope of series of ultra video, 60-Minutes (black) I bought this article of the Amazon and returned the Juste three weeks later. The article did not initialize on one or the other of my two computers like device identified of USB on its third use. The assistance of the FLICK ensured 24 hours to receive and their suggestions did not function. For the price and the size I had hoped that it would be a great addition with my photographic equipment but it is obvious that realizers of FLICK needs the "proof of ball" this product and reintroduces it at the market when that surely functions. Thus I returned it. Use with prudence!


Flip Video Ultra
I already have a numerical camera of high end and sought a fast camera of the access camcorder/digital. This adapts the invoice. Distillers can be captured by using the software included. Great visual results. Would have given that 5 holds the first role if the resolution were in the méga and the buzz were more than x2. In a general way I employ the this more this numerical high end for daily tightening.

Can't beat it for price and ease of use
We got this for Christmas and we were able to use it instantly after opening it and inserting the batteries. It was so easy our six-year old could figure out how to record. I love the size!!! I carry it in my purse or pocket so I can use it anywhere anytime--unlike a bulky expensive videocamera. Definitely it is better to have the 60 minute capacity than the 30 minute one. It goes through double AA batteries pretty quickly so a battery charger might be a good investment. We have used this to send video emails to our family. We were able to easily connect it to our TV to instantly watch our videoclips. The software it comes with is pretty good with some basic editing options. You can add music, do vintage style, black and white, and 3 other options. I was able to transfer my videos to my Windows Movie Maker where I had more editing options.
I have enjoyed this little thing and am very happy with my purchase so far.


Good Enough for My Teen
We bought the flick for our daughter for Christmas and it was very excited when it saw what it received. It could employ it with good results and without being referred to the instructions. The only disadvantage seems to be that it eats batteries quickly (consequently the 4 holds the first role), thus if you project on employing this for much shooting, you ensure to have to you the abundance of the batteries in hand.


Flip Ultra is ultra easy to use. Excellent for day-to-day family video
For its price, it is a large product. Stripped one moment of my kids missed since I have ultra. The time of setting with fire-towards the top is superb. Quality is it which-you-pay-for, not HD, but very very good. It obtains 4 holds the first role during the limited time of capture. If there is a slit of chart of memory to increase the time of capture beyond 1 a.m., then the pleasant life of battery can be entirely used. The use of a chart of memory can also allow a faster file transfer. The life of battery of the batteries of aa is large. Perhaps the flick can make a version of "HD" in the near future by adding a slit of chart of memory, sticking to the batteries aa with the long life, adding a standard cable of USB and/or by giving more flexibility to reverse-outside the connector of USB to adapt to various configurations connecting all while maintaining the device accessible. A good number of recreation by using it. The quality of the video will not be disappointing. One can be surpised with at which good point it looks on the PC and in particular the non-HD TV. Great work, reverse ultra.


So Much Fun!
The best gift we received this last Christmas! It is easy to employ, reload, and publish the videos that you record. Come with it is to have to publish the software which lets not only publish, but the option gives you to capture a simple image of a mobile video. We also bought the case and the tripod guards which were employed completely frequently.

Great little gadget!
I bought this as gift for my been engaged because she said that we needed a visual camera to take voyages for "our reports together". Well, I have Sony VX2000 which is an impressive caméscope, but one envisages it for a more serious work and is little tall to take holidays. Thus, I stumble through this on the Amazon and after having looked at around, I decided to buy one. It could not be happier! (well, the ring of interlocking took the central stage, but it was excited on this subject too!) If you buy this for what one cense to be it; a recreation, very portable and easy to use the caméscope, you will be very satisfied. If you buy it wanting to be next George Lucas or Steven Spielberg, do not waste your time. It is very easy to use and its small dimension compacts makes him a bellyband to throw in a pocket/purse with taking the road. It has the visual capture of surprisingly good quality and very a rapid to start to the top timing. A flick of a button and the flicks of connector of USB outside and are ready for you to download your videos with your computer after shorts, programs art of the car-portrait-loading installs. The life of battery seems to be very good. It it is economically employed during approximately a month and we are always on the first whole of batteries. If I were to feel sorry for me, and trust me, I really do not want to complain about this small fantastic thing, it would be the buzz. The buzz is very limited and does not have a good range. That being said, I did not hope to have a buzz or anything teleobjective narrowly. The buzz is the only weak part of this caméscope and that does not reduce even the total package. Catch right a stage or two forwards or backwards. Veiled! Buzz!

We bought this video camera for our 6 yr. old grandson. He loves it. It is very easy to use. I recommend getting the rechargeable batteries, especially if it's a younger person who is using the Flip Video

ultra flip camcorder
I bought this caméscope for a special event. It is easy to employ and visual quality was large. The sight this is proportioned more in the face. I could record on DVD of my recorder at the house and give them to the members of family. It was large. I project to employ it completely a little this summer. We live in the thousand areas of islands and have a boat. Many large films and images to be taken there.


Not Quite A Flip Flop
With bought the camera of flick. Handsome price, decent little camera ' jet far '. Decent value. This said being, count what you pay. With this inexpensive camera, you do not obtain projectiles of good quality, you do not obtain the good noise, you don;t obtain a decent buzz (narrower stages of catch 3 and you pretty reproduced much its possibilities of buzz). DO NOT OBTAIN It IF YOU HAVE a MAC/APPLE. It indicates that its software works with the imper and the PC, but it not. Transfers of video more easily, but the noise is very with pinion and nonusable. We must put it on a PC, to then burn them with a disc, then download the disc with the imper. At all events, it is small decent to leave in your bundle or purse or car, but is not based on him to capture important events.

We bought this camcorder for our daughters this Christmas. They absolutely love it. They love making their own little movies and the picture quality is really pretty good. We were able to put their movies onto disc without any problems. The batteries seem to last a good time too. Now my husband wants one for his birthday to take with him when he's out biking trails.

Well worth the price
The flip ultra is an easy well thought out product. It takes great video and is easy to tranfer to other devices. The ultra takes great video and is great for action shots. I use it mostly for shotting extreme sports. The quality is great and easy to get. I would recomend this flip video to any beginner through pro.


Simple? ...Yes!! ......But Beware
It is a large small inexpensive visual camera which is MARVELOUSLY simple to use. I bought last a very impressed week and AM of visual and audio quality. Image and quality of sound compare with the coarse caméscope of VHS which I used towards the end of the Eighties which was very good. My visual camera of flick functioned well out of the box without problems. The book of instruction can be read in 5 minutes and is very clear and simple. I like this small camera. Very Simple and Useful
Opened the package and read a little of the instructions, and away I went. So simple I couldn't believe it. Husband plugged it into the TV and we watched it right then.
Had watched the video on Amazon thats what sold me! No more with the bulky Camcorder.
Granted the quality isn't a camcorder, but for quick shots of the just about anything really I can't think of anything better.
Husband is using it to record the interior of our 77 Corvette, along with pictures.

I have a new baby without the hour of reading instruction manuals and I not must for this camera! It is so intuitive and easy to employ, you can start to employ it immediately. Built in the USB is large thus you do not have to worry you to lose a cord. Like it!

on the one hand the quality of the video is astonishing for the size and it is easy to employ price of the caméscope the caméscope and it is easy to download with your computer (although you must install their decoder 3ivx in order to obtain them with the videos with play/convert with another format)... who is a light trouble but with nothing too principal my problem is after having downloaded the videos on careful listen can intend you to make bleep-bleep which the camera or the decoder puts in the visual file to make bleep-bleep occurs on all my videos, and I also heard it on others videos taken by the ultra flick which I sought on the youtube and found other users who test this also well thus it is not a simple defective unit. the majority of the people it is apparent, but with me it is certainly there and obstructing now I discuss if it is enough of a problem to return it which is a shame because there is no other camera for the price which I would obtain in the place... thus I just would be wedged without caméscope still.


great little camera
This is a pocket shirt-sized little video camera that of course is easy to carry around and use. The small screen is well lit and there are few controls to confuse us. On, off, zoom, delete. The usb connection pivots out for immediate download to your computer. I purchased, for 5 bucks, a usb cable from Amazon to use for this because I do not want the camera hanging from the port.

New users should be aware that the company requires an immediate firmware upgrade to fix some software flaws. Once this is done, the system works well. I upload my videos to Utube just to store them. Hardly anybody will see them but that is my choice and it's ok.
I carry mine around for taking small videos of daily life; shopping in Walmart, getting gas, walking the dog, whatever. Unfortunately, in today's security obsessed world, this is not always possible, so use some discretion.

I do not foersee making video cameras any smaller, just because it would be hard to hold them.


I love this little camera!
The only thing that I would say is which if you want a video stable, obtain a tripod, is which what I project to make because my videos is all little precarious.


Ultra Flip Camera
I absolutely love this camera. It's so easy to use, I carry it in my purse and have it handy at all times. Just aim and shoot. As a grandmother, there's always memories happening. The video is crystal clear. I have a regular video camera and it just sits in the closet. Since I received this flip, I use it almost everyday. Give it a try and see for yourself.



One Major Flaw
The camcorder is exceptionally easy to use, and does take decent quality video, BUT... when you zoom in or out while recording, the focus does NOT adjust. Basically, if you start out recording wide and zoom in during the recording, the picture becomes and stays blurry. I would much rather have the zoom option disabled while recording than have out of focus videos. Now I know about this quirk.


Fun camera
It is a large visual camera for my 9 years old son and his friends. They have a great time to make the idiotic and creative videeo. Resounds of laughing when they play them behind! Easy to employ; easy to download videos to the PC.


Great product ... easy to use.
I bought this for my parents and my girlfriend's parents, both sides have difficulty with technology and computers. However, they both seemed easily use Flip It. Operating the camera is very easily for them and now they know how to upload to the computer with the software already installed on the camera. I am sure the picture quality and features are not up to par with many other digital camcorders, but it is a great camera for the price.


Flip Video Camcorder
Bought the Flip Video Camcorder for my wife as a X-Mas present. She loved it and loves how easy it is to use. It will not replace a full featured digital camcorder (only a 2x zoom), but nothing beats the price and how simple it is to use. It is small enought to carry around and easy to download into your PC. Think of it as the 110 pocket carmera of camcorders (sorry to show my age here).


Totally easy!
It is extremely easy to use the visual camera of flick. I like the connection of USB. One hour of the covers of video the majority of my needs and the batteries for aa last a long time. The buzz 2X is proportioned for the majority of the occasions. The difficulty of software in Christmas came just in time to fix the exits of remote loading which frustrated. It is a nice basic visual camera which is easy to carry around and to capture the moments which could differently be missed. Visual quality is correct. Device of Nice for the price.


Not as good as I hoped
Bought this for my daughter at Christmas. Very easy to operate and loved the size and convience. The item somehow came with faulty software and had to spend 1hour downloading a patch. After that We were able to download pictures to the computer. This is where the item has issues. Every time you take a clip it downloads seperately. It takes hours to stitch all the clips together. The computer couldn't stitch more that 6 clips together at a time. I called the flip people who were to busy and said that they would get back to me but I haven't heard from them. I tried to contact them by e-mail and phone. The picture quality was okay and I was willing to let that go for the convience but I will still be needing a new camcorder as the sluggish computer/download/stitching thing is a drag. My computer is a year old so I don't think that is the problem.


Fun and easy
The flick functions large and is easy to download with your computer and shows on your TV. It bourdonne not very far thus you would not like it to observe your football of play of kid or similar. But for around the house that functions large!


Disappointed
I had read so many good reviews about this camera but the longer I own it (around 6 weeks now), the more problems I find.

Pros: small, lightweight, very easy to stick in your pocket or bag, just took on a cross-country trip, also quite cute-looking (I got the orange and white), fairly intuitive to use, slim users' manual, easy to play back on TV

Cons:
1. The red record button sometimes works when I push it and sometimes not. (My fingers are medium sized, by the way.) This has led to a number of videos that don't end when they're supposd to, and usually have my voice in the background saying "Why won't it turn off?" I also have missed some wonderful scenes because it didn't turn on to "record" until I had pressed it 10-20 times.

2. When playing back recorded video on the camera or TV, I have run into the problem a number of times where it says something like "Disc unreadable" in the middle of a video and just stops playing it. No amount of trouble-shooting could fix this. Then maybe a week or two later, the video was suddenly "readable" and would play. This unreliability has meant that close relatives missed seeing important videos during visits.

3. My biggest problem is being unable to burn DVDs from my videos. One of the main reasons I bought this camcorder is because it is supposed to be Mac compatible. I had problems downloading 29 minutes of video to my computer. First, the computer froze when I was transferring all the videos at once. Later, I tried to do it one by one and still encountered the problem in terms of it would get stuck on one video and never finish transferring it. I had to manually shut down the computer each time and restart it. Then after hours of work when I had downloaded the videos to the Flip Library on my computer, I found it impossible to get any Mac applications to read the files in order to burn DVDs. i-DVD said the files were unreadable. With a Mac, you need to use i-DVD to burn DVDs that will be playable in DVD players. I really don't know what to do about this biggest problem, since the reason I bought the camera was to be able to make home movie DVDs of my young daughter.

I would definitely NOT recommend buying this camera and for anyone looking for a low-price camcorder, if you look for sales you can get well-known brands like Panasonic for around $200. I would imagine these work better than the Flip Ultra.

Looking at the reviews so far, I see quite a number in the one-star category. Perhaps quality control for the Flip Ultra is not as good as it should be yet. I am disappointed this camera did not live up to my expectations.

It is a large small caméscope for no matter whom. Just exactly which vat of dyeing of Glenn is delirious about it. My daughter will not let to me borrow thus I could have to also buy one were going to take with our 8mm the length, to exploit it the TV and to record it on the flick burn the dvd then. Heartbroken Christmas Gift - big promises but poor delivery
We were so eager to receive this camera in the mail so that we could wrap it like Christmas present for somebody in our family. The product, as presented on the Web site of FLICK, seemed so perfect, the sooooo of the simple delivery, the sooooo of results clean and easy to create! It seemed impossiblement easy to do all. Even the videos of "échantillon" of Web site were to die for, but however seemed so spontaneous! Well, Christmas came and was matched -- with a variety of exits which made us to throw our hand-towards the top in the air and to require, sometimes, if any product could deliver more badly than this camera. There are many problems with the camera of flick. Pure DIGITAL provided only exits, not solutions. No badiner -- this product was launched with an IMMEDIATE NEED for a software "part brought back" to fix the outlets with the camera. We lost several videos, hours exhausted trying to make the software "improved" starting from work of site of FLICK (which it still does not carry out). With regard to I, the lotisseurs of this product launched it too quickly, trying to profit on the sales from Christmas, but without response for the HOST CENTRE of the exits of compatibility between this product and a PC. How irresponsible! ! I am personally able on a PC, and did not can obtain this thing to function correctly by using their materials. Sure, thereafter SOME of the devices of camera function -- but we lost several videos our Christmas of family, cannot create or save films by using their "integrated" software (which you must always test and in way or other to install on your computer -- misleading!), and basically could obtain a better functionality of one of the disposable visual cameras which are on the market now! The line of support will call you behind and/or answer the telephone, but they do not have any response for problems of compatibility with their software and a PC. This is a great camera. I got mine yesterday (the black and 30 minutes model). First of all it looks really nice. It also weights very little compared to most camcorders. It's also good that it uses flash memory because it is very reliable and sturdy. It's very simple to use and it has stunning video quality for such a small camera. The video looks better on a tv or computer screen than my $350 Sony HC-48. It is also mac compatible and downloads easily into imove or final cut express. It is also very easy to download videos onto a pc with the flip.

Great camera for the money
Very easy to operate and you can use it right out of the box because it operates on AA batteries (included). I was concerned that there was no light on the camera, but I've found the camera adapts well to a variety of light conditions. Overall, the picture quality is surprisingly good for a camera of this price. I only gave it four stars because I'd like the option of increasing the storage capacity.

Ultra flick received 60 (white) this afternoon, opened the box designed very well, batteries inserted, connected to the PC into the update of software package of remote loading. How this easy was astounded my workmen of comrade. I work with a company of production of TV and must use several pro caméscopes, heavy, cumbersome and noneasy to use. We had a breath to look at our videos flick on computers of TV and PC and imper. I am very happy with this little fills with wonder me and happy that I made the research extended before the order. I strongly recommend to install the software packages before employing the flick. The deserved well five holds the first role!


decent for what I use it for
This camera is good for what I use it for - simple videos to post on my blog and you tube. The software is easy to use (works great on my Mac w/ the latest OS). The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't pick up sound very well. That's a bummer. The speaker is on the back of the camera, but should probably be on the front. Other than that I like it. It's small and easy to operate.


Fun to use
It is much better to capture these moments of recreation than transporting out of the old visual camera. My husband never likes to take it video, but it really had recreation with this one, so much perhaps end of we' L upwards with more length of our kids!


Not ready for prime time



Quick & easy but disappointing
Well I does not think that no matter who should "reverse" above this visual camera. Yes, of flick the powerings ultra quickly, has an easy installation and a use of software and is convenient in size/functionality... but here. This camera will disappoint soon of anybody savvy moderate even the majority of camera or computer. Initially with far, the 640x480 resolution that I think is the worst thing about this camera. This report/ratio of Pixel translates harshly in the face of inch 4x3 on your monitor of computer for the good resolution, go a smaller size on your screen and is the image really good but with the way in which small of an image make you want to really look at your video? Go larger than this size and the image degrades immediately with a very weak image, C-with-D.: you will never look at a video of quality of the flick even to a size of a standard monitor (for example 17 inches or larger). As for the TV out of viewing (via the video made up), it is also ok, reasonable as well as possible but the image will blacken the box of letter on the left (


Surprisingly pleased ...
The software program doesn't work right, and there was an annoying fix for the problem that updated the "firmware", which didn't fix the problem, but you don't need the software to take or store the files so I haven't bothered to wait for the help desk to correct the problem. The videos are good and clear for a small kid-friendly device. Wait for the price to drop some more if you aren't in a hurry. More toy than real camcorder, but that is what I wanted so I am happy with it


Gifts for the electronically declined
I purchased the camcorder for my mother. She quite literally cannot set the vcr; nor can she program or use most electronic devices without help. She loves it. The camcorder fits right in her jean pocket so she takes it everywhere. Everything work with just one simple motion. My mom will never miss a moment of her granddaughter's firsts.

I put this article on my list of wish like total luxury article, thinking I would never receive it. I also wondered whether the thing would never function the manner one espérerait. How did it dare for the price? Well, I obtained it and it them work perfectly and I like! ! ! I was on the market to improve my Sony Handycam for an expensive numerical recorder this year, but forgets it now. I do not require for him if I have the flick. I am not a geek of computer by any right end of imagination thus I am me will not enter all Spéc. techniques on this recorder, except saying that to the person configuration, visual quality is very good. I think that others did a fine work reviewing Spéc. techniques! I am right a mom - looking at to record moments of family - although I know my manner around a computer. At all events, like another critic paid, that took to me less than 2 minutes to obtain this thing in service out of the box one Christmas Day where I opened it. I charged the batteries (no filling!), turned above, pushed to him the button towards the disc and the pole... there I was. I recorded several fasten and then held my breath when it was time to download. Well, with my surprise, it was a rupture too. My computer identified the device immediately (I run OS of Vista), it transferred the files and opened with the nails of the inch! I clicked the nail of the inch and staples played... just like that. I could not believe it! Could not have been easier! ! The device itself has several large devices too. When you initialize it to the top, it indicates to you how much hour record you have remaining. It has an automatic interruption after a couple of the minutes but initializes very quickly - so much no missed moment! You can also turn over and review and remove a Juste of video of the recorder (without computer). Each time you stop and start the recorder it creates new fastens, which is also really interesting! It is small and light weight - the adjustments in a larger pocket or can hang to you the cover (which comes with it) of your belt. My unit is pink/white, that I like! : -) It does not seem acaparer either batteries. I have a whole of batteries of aa in him maintaining (the kind meant for electronics - life so much slightly longer) and I recorded more than 30 minutes of video and made several playback without the problem. Although, I thus do not see really an indicator of the life of battery I do not know which kind of system of warning there is or how much life I left in them Également stripped I tried to however take it with a kiosk with the copy on CD... but I read other reviews which indicate that it is a rupture too. The primary reason that I wanted numerical a recorder was to divide videos with the family out of the city. Thus, I tried to send staples visual by the email but the file was too large manner and they all returned like nondeliverable. However, I do not think it is an outlet with the recorder... which I am sure that it is the user and/or the volume of file! There is perhaps a manner of compressing it but I did not dirty with testing that. Instead of that, I just downloaded the file with a photograph sharing the site (I employed the photobucket) and divided it this way. Still, worked perfectly! I think that the device is even supposed to easily divide with some sites/providers but I like the photobucket. The lower result is than if you think of testing this device... do it! You will like it!

Adjustments of this small instrument perfectly in the pocket before my Levi. It is ready for anything. I like that it discs during thirty minutes. I make short films, catching this moment that you wished that you remember later but to seem to forget. It is perfect to really document any moment in your life. I like this small instrument!

I bought this for my wife for Christmas, and she started using it immediately, and I mean immediately. Very easy to use, very crisp video, and surprisingly excellent sound. My wife now thinks she's a star, and so am I for buying it for her!


Great customer service at Flip
I bought an ultra flick for my daughter. As always, the Amazon was more than the message of request. However, because reasons which we include/understand, neither our imper nor our portable computer of PC with Windows.xp would identify it video. My D called the service with the customers of flick and after the acquisition of the information of it, promised to embark it nine. I was skeptic, but during two days later, a new camera arrived, as well as a label of return paid by anticipation for the return of UPS of the original camera. This camera functions. It is too bad there was a problem, but I cannot say asse' about the service to the customers of flick to make things right.

J - U - N - K In a little package
Waisted a lot of my time with this thing. The files get really big on the device, 20 minute videos may be 400mb in size. The problem was that we couldn't get them off of the camera. I used 4 different PC's, two with XP and two with Vista and still had the same problems. I had to go back out and re-shoot all the videos we took because of this problem. Small files would come off but not the big ones. Perhaps if it was on a removeable disk we could have gotten them off. We set for hours and hours working with this thing. Enjoy your trip back...


Handy little cam
I bought a couple of these as a gifts for family members so I've had the chance to play with it some. It's great in that it's very simple to use. Although I'm no expert at image quality, playback looks good. Sound is decent. If you're looking for a really simple video recording device, this is about as simple as it gets. The video quality is definitely better than the video recording capabilities on my digital camera, but the zoom is pretty limited, so your viewing area is limited as well. Overall I gave it five-stars because it does well at serving it's purpose: being easily available for short, spur-of-the-moment, decent quality video recordings. I would def recommend getting the USB extension cable.


Love this camcorder but...
With bought this like present for old 13yr. If easy to employ does not come even with the handbook! ! great images easy to employ - very disappointed quality of sound. But if that does not worry you, you cannot go to seek badly the price large little (adjustments in your pocket) caméscope - you will never miss once those in a few moments of a life still by the case - hard obtain moving and stop that means it will never be employed. if you want a case - buy generic.

This must be the visual cam easiest that I ever used. It is simple to draw and simple to download. Nothing additional is necessary. It is even simple to connect with the TV and the watch. I obtained the camera 30-Minute which proves to provide the abundance of the hour for the use of day in day, more especially as you can immediately look at what you draw and remove the things you do not want to keep. I wish now that I obtained the camera 60-Minute, although, which would be more useful for places of meetings of holidays or family.... when you will employ more and have less occasion to download. The only addition that I would like to see is that it is given the capacity to download with an instantaneous order. Without worrying, it is a large visual cam for the price.


Great new camera for research
This is the greatest little camera to add along with my digital camera for researching and documentation of family events. It is so small and it is alwyas in my purse to use when unexpected events take place. After I finally worked my way through the intros and instructions it is so easy. It is impossible to really put into words how much I have enjoyed using it. At 70+ years, I don't take to new gadgets right off the bat, and have to work my way through the process. It is highly recommended by me for any who love to document family and other events on a short notice.


Flip Video Review
This is a great product for the money and the quality of the video. No, you can't shoot a full feature movie with it but most people want a nice picture with some zoom feature to capture their family friends, etc. It is user friendly and all you have to do is hook up the USB connection and download your files to your computer. It will connect to your TV directly as well with video cords supplied with the camera.


Use of Flip video Camcorder
I found the caméscope of flick to be a good article but in this nonlarge moment. I cannot obtain it identified by my office computer of Dell. That functioned well with my portable computer of Dell. The technical support was very support and sensitive but stripped however solved the problem. The unit was turned over and I was promised that the problem would be corrected and the caméscope returned to me. The other exit is that I could not download with my computer and send like attachment to a regular email.

I bought this for my old man wire of twelve-year like present of Christmas. He likes it. He and his/her friends, children of same parents have a great stripping of time. They had worked on a "series" holding the first role the family which dog-truth obtains them thinking créativement - they write, publishing stripping, etc. all under appearance to have the recreation. Only one thing that I wish was the different-refillable batteries. My small Spielberg is stripping much thus we pass by aa faster than I would like. It is so easy to employ and download on the computer. My daughter asked her clean for her birthday.


Best in Price
I like this small caméscope. Really easy to employ, light and enough small to carry your purse or pocket inside. The only aspiration behind that I found with this caméscope is that it is only good for the close projectiles. It is not the camera to draw the play from the school of your kid. Large for Christmas and of the birthdays.


I wished it would have worked....
I bought this product with high hopes. We are going to adopt a baby and thought it would be great to take to Kazakhstan with us to do fun videos of the baby on our blog. When I first got it, I filmed my son and we put it on you tube. It was easy. However, after that, it stopped working. It would turn on, but not let us shoot video. I changed batteries, no luck. I got an email saying it required a firmware update, but it wouldn't even update. I don't know if it was a problem with Vista, or not. I took it back-I'm sad it didn't work for us.


Good hardware - software buggy and weak....
The flick is extremely easy to draw to it video top. The quality and acoustics of image are completely good for a so small package (smaller than a typical numerical camera). Where the product leaves completely to the bottom is in the software on board. Neither my imper nor PC could run the software without errors of program. I charged the update of software package as well and it was not better. If you want to draw from the simple videos and then to save on your order lasts to publish by a different program, should be happy for you. But do not count on the software which is installed on the camera - you will be frustrated and disappointed. All-in-all, pure technologies of DIGITAL released this product too early and without suitable software. I tested the support which promises to return an email within 4 hour during their hours indicated. They not. The users envisaged of this product in my household were my kids. They have the recreation to draw it video but to do anything constructive or creative with their videos is impossible. Thus, it rests unutilised.


The best!
I bought the Flip as a Christmas present for myself. I have elderly parents and hope to include their story in the Story Project. The Flip allows me to gather bits at a time impromptu, is easy to use, and I'm able to take it anywhere. The recording button can be problematic in that you can press and press and it still doesn't record. It seems to get easier when you turn on the camera and wait a minute or two. The tripod accessory is invaluable for my purposes, freeing me up from the camera. Register your product for firmware updates. Forget the pouch, buy a universal pouch for digital cameras--much better protection for those of us that has the Flip rattling around in the purse. Check whatever pouch you use for protection from rain and spilled yogurt!

I was little a highly-strung person about making this purchase after reading (little) of the negative reviews (most of the time concerning exits of software). But, stripped of I had all the problems of the whole (I have Windows.xp). I do not employ the software which came with the video from flick, however (I employ the softare of ACDSee to look at videos). It is very easy to use this small caméscope and it comes with 2 "from the batteries from aa". I have refillable batteries, which will come in handy. Visual quality is very good and it is very convenient because you do not need DVDs! I like this thing!


how long it takes to share the video? help!
I am not sure if most of you are using the flip program to share the video.
It seems take so long to making small size video using the Flip Video Program's Share by Email feature...I always try even 30 sec video, but it takes too long that I can't wait to finish it. at least waiting for more than 15 min and still about 30% complete. (that's for 30 sec video)
do you all using the program to share the video? If anyone knows more quicker way to email videos, please put in on here! much appreciate it


Great Product for the Price
Out of the box it needed an update of their Web site which was foreward rather right. I bought four of the 60 caméscopes of series of video of flick of ultra minute for Christmas presents. EACH ONE likes them. The software of flick makes it easy to divide your videos. Their people of support made improvements excelling recently. Their software enables you to click on my computer, and explores it with the shirt of USB to trail


Fun and easy to use
My daughter loves her Flip. She is normally shy, yet this camera is so fun to use, she has no problem expressing herself through the lens of the Flip. It is a lot of camera for the money.


Verdict is still out on this camcorder...
I was very excited about this camcorder from the reviews and the look of the camcorder itself. I have the orange/white one and think it looks so cool and cute. I only just received this at Christmas, so I haven't explored it that much yet, but so far, I have noticed the following:

-The video looks good when you play the tiny thumbnail version through the flip software itself. However, when you save it to my documents and it plays larger in windows media player, the picture loses a lot of quality. It appears grainy and fuzzy.
-When I videotape and use the zoom, the zoomed in sections of my video look fuzzy. The non-zoomed in parts do not look as fuzzy.
-Something is very strange about the software for Flip. When I open it and save my videos, or edit etc., and finish, it won't allow me to close the screen. I try to "x" out, and it won't let me, and I can't find any button that says "exit." So I am stuck there until I "control/alt/delete" out of it which is annoying and should be unnecessary.
-At the moment, the quality is not as good as the video section of my digital camera that is 4 years old! So I am disappointed in that. But I'm hoping that I'm just missing something and will figure out how to get better quality.
-I have not transferred anything to dvd or tv yet, so I'm hoping that it'll look better there.
-The zoom is not much at all. It says it only has a 2x zoom, and just be aware of how small that really is. A lot of other camcorders might have a 32x zoom or so. So this doesn't do very much (and like I said, looks blurry when you use it anyway).
-It is very convenient to have a tiny camcorder that you can bring with you anywhere you go.
-The sound quality seems normal.

So overall, I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. I'm really hoping I'll figure out how to make it worth it. I plan to try to find an email for customer service so I can resolve some of these issues.


Love My Flip!!
I bought the Flip for three people as gifts and everyone has called to thank me several times. I also own the Flip and can't remember what it is like not to have one in my daily life. With a two year daughter, I can now catch every moment by having this tiny and user-friendly video camera with me at all times. I already owned a very expensive Panasonic DVD video camera and my Flip puts it to shame.

I hightly recommend it and Amazon has the lowest prices around for the Flip. It is flipping great!


You'll FLIP for flip
I purchased two of these for my children ages 12 and 17. They like to shoot you tube videos. As a photographer myself I was very interested to find out how the video actually came out. To my surprise it is a fabulous little machine. Very simple to use and comes with very simple editing software. I am pleased with the quality of the video. Mind you, you must be in a lit area, outdoors in daylight works well. The only drawback is that there isn't enough zoom, so you have to be close to the subject. I will probably buy a third for myself.


I flip for Flip Video!
Like it! ! ! ! But it is sensitive and you must make sure that it is on a stable surface by connecting the port of USB. If it even just slightly takes down... the poof... you to loosen all your length! : (differently about it is astonishing and SO easy to employ. You have to obtain it!


Better than a camcorder...
I back up the claim I made in the title by saying that when our first child was born, we rushed out and bought a very fancy video camera that has resided in its fancy case for many years. It has always been too complicated to make sure it was charged, make sure the tape was qeued, make sure there was enough tape, turn it on, wait, and then hope the event wasn't over. We basically assigned it to major events like Christmas where it could rest it on a tripod and record from there. Then we discovered the Flip Video Ultra.

When I first saw it, I was sckeptical. I figured it would have crappy video, poor sound, and just basically stink due to its size and price tag. Boy, was I wrong. The next day, while at work, I called home and my wife informed me that our oldest was dancing and singing for our baby and they were laughing together. I longed to see it and knew that she could never get the camera out in time to capture it properly. I knew at that moment that we had a need for this camera. We ordered it, and I was shooting video within 5 minutes of grasping the box. Wow!

Since then, we have been shooting video. Nothing complex, but video that is anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes long. We have been uploading it to our blog...and we are not tech savy! Our blog has gone from a picture blog to a video-only blog overnight. It is amazing. The video is amazingly clear on your PC and not too shabby on your TV either (we have a 27").

I don't use the included software to edit, I instead explore the memory stick and then import that video into Windows Movie Maker. I then save it to my desktop to upload it to my blog. I am sure the software is great, I am just used to the other.

Buy this, get this as a gift, whatever...just own this device. It is truly a gift to the family.


Not Perfect but Pretty Good
I bought this camera for my 12 year old son. Our family has never had a video camera before and this one looked easy to use. It is. The quality of the sound and pictures has been good and it has been a lot of fun to be able to plug the camera into the television and view the videos on the large screen. Our problems have come when we tried to download the videos to our computer. First, the software wouldn't load properly. I read the Read Me file and found a way around that. There is no documentation that actually came with the camera itself. Next, we found that if we try to load a video that is much larger than 2.5 minutes long, we get an error message and we have to shut down the program, take the batteries out of the camera, and start over. We either have to stop the videos every few minutes or break the large videos into short segments to be able to load them. The batteries came with the camera but they do not last very long. However, regular replacement batteries do not last very long either so try lithium batteries or have a back up with you. Overall, I think it is basically a good starter video camera for my son. He's already dropped it twice and it is still working (a padded case will be our next purchase as well as the tripod).


Nifty camcorder nifty price
We saw this on the exposure of things of the favourite of Oprah and went well with the Internet to see it. The Amazon had the best price naturally. When it arrived, I took it out of the box and made a "film little" of our Christmas decorations for my mom within three minute. I went well to the computer, connected the USB and emailed with it that the noise is large, it does not need much light and it is ridiculously easy to employ. My only reservation is the fact that it takes batteries of aa. We do not know yet how long they lasts. I hope that we can employ the refillable ones. Buy this, it is in value the money you can carry it anywhere and doo energetic... you have sixty minutes to record. Ah, you can use the catches included to put it right on the TV. Defect of the sound reproduction. I like just technology.


Dandy little camera
I purchased this camera for a ski trip. The camera performed fine at very cold temperatures, had it in my ski coat outside pocket. So, below freezing, I was still able to pull out the camera, point and shoot at a moment's notice. Regular alkaline batteries last a lot longer than I anticipated. It takes great pictures at regular zoom, the digital zoom in gets a bit out of focus. I found it very easy to use, easy to get the movies out, and easy on the wallet. The old addage is: you get what you pay for. 1-hour of movies is very sufficient for most of my uses.


(Surprisingly) Fantastic Value and Quality
I purchased the Flip as early Christmas present for my wife.. My goal was to get something we could take videos of the kids with and have it be as easy to deal with capture/storage/burning DVDs as it is with our digital still camera. We have a Mini-DV camcorder and we've never taken the time to get the video off the camcorder, onto the laptop and onto a DVD. It's just a real pain. So, I've wanted for a long time a camcorder that would record to flash memory or HDD but 1) we already had a camcorder and 2) they were expensive. Then I saw the Flip, grabbed one and we spent the month of December, especially the holidays, recording with the intent of producing a DVD at the end of the month.

Last night I burned a DVD with our recordings using the MyDVD software that came with our laptop. Then I put it into my DVD player to watch the videos on our 50" plasma. I expected something very grainy and small. I was shocked when I was greeted with good quality video even on my 50" plasma. The resolution of the camera is 640x480 which amounts to 4:3 480p so it's like watching a SD TV show except to my eye it seemed a little bit better than SD cable but not as good as an SD movie DVD. I was shocked to tell the truth given what we'd paid for it and what I've read about the picture quality.

The Flip has more than exceeded my expectations: it did exactly what I wanted and it made it easy. I can take videos of our family, upload them to our PC through USB and then burn them to DVD to watch on TV. The quality is more than good enough for the price (like I said IMHO something between SD cable and SD DVD) but more than anything it does all the things I wanted to and I didn't have to spend several hundred dollars.

We are VERY happy with our Flip. We now have an easy way to capture our children's childhoods (at least until flash camcorders that do HD come way down in price) -- something we never had as kids. The Flip is surprisingly good and unexpectedly fun.

Some things to know:
- Don't use the zoom. It's not an optical zoom so it just makes the picture quality poor by cropping the image.
- Expect a time-consuming setup. The first time you plug it in it needs to update itself and it takes a while.
- The software is just so-so. It doesn't really come with any decent software so you'll need something like Roxio's MyDVD to edit/burn videos.
- It records to AVI files (MPEG-4) so you can use a much better viewer on your PC than the one that comes with it. I use WinAMP (free).
- You might want to think about that external 500GB USB drive now because this thing eats HDD drive space like it's nothing :-). I think our 250GB WD is going to have company soon.
- The audio is mono
- When viewing with WinAMP it said it was 640x480, 30fps video

[Update] This update doesn't change my review because it's not related to the Flip itself but more to the video format it uses. I am hoping what I went through will help other folks The video files are AVI with the video portion as XVID 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.1. When I upgraded from the Sonic MyDVD 5.5 software to the Roxio MyDVD 9.0 I could no longer view these files or burn them to a DVD. I had to upgrade to Roxio Easy Media Create 10 to get them to work again. Nothing on Roxio's site gave me any indication the upgrade would cause an issue with my files. Only throwing money at it seemed to help the problem. So, if you're using the Flip in combination with MyDVD to burn DVDs just beware it's not because you don't have the right codec or whatever installed. You apparently need MyDVD 10 or maybe even MyDVD9 Premium to view XVID video and create DVDs out of them. It makes me wish the Flip didn't record to such a wonky format but I guess with all the licensing around MPEG-4, AT&T lawsuit, etc. you get what you get as an early adopter. Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (Black)
This is the best gadget for the money. I liked mine so much I have bought several more for gifts. Insert the batteries, included, update on your computer and it is ready to go.
It is so easy to take videos of the moment. I keep my flip in my purse, it is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and it is handy for those "life" moments you want to keep. I also used the Flip for holiday gatherings and the pictures are clear and the vocals easy to hear. No extras are needed. The lighting adjusts to the room ambiance easily. The Flip plugs directly into my computer for download and I have a movie program installed so I burn instant dvd's to share.
This isnt to replace the big expensive camcorders that can zoom in on the big game etc, but for day to day life it is excellent. I put an extra set of AA batteries in my pocket and I am good to go.


Good and bad
I like the visual camera with 2 exceptions. 1. The noise does not take really the words which populate say unless they speak very extremely. 2. The program which is employed to make films freezes 9 times out of 10.


Great
Saved about $50. buying on line. Granddaughter loved for Christmas. She is 10 years old and used all weekend!


The Flip Video
I received the Flip Video Camcorder and found it easy to use straight out of the box. My only complaint is that the red button on the back is difficult to press when you are ready to stop recording. I recorded my 97 year old grandmother reciting poetry in front of the Christmas Tree. The recording was beautiful, however, when she finished, it took five hits on the button before it finally stopped the recording. This was frustrating and required editing that would not have been needed if the button had worked the first time I pressed it.

When I connected the Flip to my computer it began to download the program only to be stopped at 34% with an error. I shut down, restarted and tried again. It stopped at 34%. I went to the on line help site and discovered that I needed to download an update. This took awhile, but it did finally enable to system to operate. I feel the program could be more user friendly, but I was balt to figure most of it on my own.

I love the Flip and would highly recommend it!


Great little product!
It is very easy to employ the flick. The hardest part appeared out way of putting in the batteries. Two minor complaints: The quality of image is not terrible in low lighting, but is acceptable. In the second place, the red button record can be hard to tighten if you have large fingers. Otherwise, I like this thing!

Not Disappointed
After wide research and being impressed quality of some of the visual samples on line, I decided to surely buy the caméscope of series of ULTRA flick while a gift... hour have just recorded an event of family of important stage, I was not disappointed! I felt that I made a good investment exchanges some for his simplicity and facility to download with the great quality of the moment which was captured.


Really cool little camera
I ordered this because I wanted to create some very casual videos for publishing on a website being developed. This camera is perfect for that. It is simple to operate and downloading videos to the computer is exceptionally easy.

Initially (and this is very very important) you must go to the Web site of flick and download the programme of update of software package. In one nothing time of the whole, I was visual shooting and observation of him on my PC of imper of INTEL. Worked perfectly! ! I like it so much that I buy my pink wife after I finish this review.
