WAIT Don't buy it yet
The flip ultra takes the videos just fine but transferring them to your pc is a nightmare. I checked some consumer sites and I am not the only person having this trouble. Even more ominous is the flip video site is down. The update listed here is therefore unable to be uploaded, rendering the camcorder useless. Hold off buying this until flip gets its act together


Easy to use, decent quality videos
This camera is super+simple to use from the box to the right. It took approximately five minutes, in order to learn all characteristics. It uses two AA batteries. It up to the computer to harness could not be simpler. Since I have already screen to draw up software I did not disturb to attach the software which came with the camera. It functioned, straight during every other digital camera its documents into the DCIM booklet does and begins, so that they are easily copied like any other documents and to be stuck to be able. This camera does not replace a high end camera recorder for important cases of the admission, but it * is perfected * for spontaneous videos and forms screen for the net, etc.. I loved while it lasted
I bought the flip two weeks ago, and today after i unplugged it from the computer, I watched a video i had made on the flip when it suddenly shut off....and now it won't turn back on. i tried everything and i don't know if there is a reset button? But while i had it I was uploading all kinds of stuff on youtube. even though it lasted two weeks? i am going to buy another one so now im up to 300 dollars, if the nexy one breaks im going to be ashamed at myself. I hoped this help..


This is a MUST have if you want to record and share memories!
I first heard about this camera on the Oprah Show and I decided to come here to read the reviews. I have a very expensive Sony mini-DV camera that I have used to record memories over the last several years but my problem has been how to easily convert them to digital. So that is why I was interested in the Flip video camera. After reading the reviews, I felt the Flip Ultra camera was the one for me because it had twice as much memory as the regular camera (plus I like the orange option!)I ordered it and as soon as it arrived, I opened the box and the setup took less than a minute (literally!) I love the fact that it uses 2 AA batteries and then you set the date and time and you are ready to go! As soon as I had it ready to go, my 6 1/2 yr old peeked over my shoulder and said, "ooo, Mommy, what is that?" To which I responded, "my new video camera!" She promptly asked if she could use it (she has been using a digital camera since she was 2) and she was off and made her first video in a matter of minutes. I love the fact that the camera comes with video editing/sharing software that works on Mac or PC and it is super easy to use. The one thing that I would echo from the other reviewers is that it is a GREAT idea to buy the USB extension cable because it could be too easy to break off the USB connection arm if you don't. I didn't purchase the Flip branded cables because I didn't see the need to have it color coded so I bought the Cables to Go version for less money Cables To Go - 19003 - 1M USB A Male to A Female Extension Cable (White) and am very happy with that. Since my daughter is so delighted with the camera, I think that I may have to purchase another camera so that I can use it! As my boss says, this is "cold dead finger technology". You are going to have to pry this out of my cold dead fingers before I will give it up!


Pocket Movies, Why not?
Lightweight, Fun looking, enough features, not difficult, and who needs super high quality movies all the time when short and accurate clips are just fine? The Flip creates good quality movies, simple plug it (usb) and store the files or recreate clips into a movie with built in Muvee Software. Or just leave it neatly in your shirt pocket, just in case you see something worth remembering or showing off.


Wow!
This is a most amazing product. Very convenient for spontaneous moviemaking. My kids really love it. My seven year old is having the time of her life taping herself.

Great little camera!
I love this small camera. I have 2 other camera recorders and I never use her. I must ensure around the loading it me and the bag, the gear wheel, which etc. get. Consequently I am terrible at it and have little screen of my kids, family and friends. I took video prisoner in 2 months of having this camera as in 5 years of my other cameras. It is not a fantastic camera. Not largely for distance or fantasy shots. But that is, not like I it uses. It does exactly, what I need - screen and clay/tone of the special opportunities and the open moments stores. Characteristics I love - small (fits into my purse), AA batteries (no loading, the latter when), simple Download (USB attached, requests the software), simply to store (a library format for saving documents gives you), simply to email (kompressen the documents thus you know easily email it), to the good clay/tone and to the free illustration. This was obviously formed with the YouTube production in the understanding. I did not do much to draw up, although I think that the software, which comes it with is very limited. I really do not have an objection. The only thing, which I would suggest for future models, is, to have something kind removable memory. I could not see a needing of of more than 60 minutes for holidays and credit one computer, which is present to downloaden. Entirely, in high of degrees recommended. Large gift for new parents, young person, student, etc..

Up to now am I with the light impact lucky, but, the illustration of the case was misleading. I did not receive the white box, which closes. I received a black box with a Drawstringschliessen. When I mean order gave, I expected, to receive what in the illustration like that was, although it is not it the color functions, or I received kind, which I wished and thought. If their going forming substitions which I believe, they should at least send and inform to you email you, therefore you can change your order, if you do not wish their replacement.


Everyone needs one.
I bought this with the intention of just enjoying taking videos. A camcorder that was simple and easy to work. AS i am not a professional.It ended up being much more. My Mother died last week. I used the FLIP to record my last times with her. I came home and very easily loaded it on my computer. Quality was great. I will always have that with me now.I also found that it was cheapest on Amazon. Thank you.


why did I wait so long?
This compact video equipment takes amazingly free videos. It is simply... simple to use... simple regard to set itself for on-line. It is enough small to take everywhere therefore you do not miss all those moments, which should not you. Largely for kids and school projects!! A must have!!


Great Camera to take anywhere
I bought the Flip for my boyfriend for Christmas after seeing an ad for it on amazon.com. He had never owned a video camera before and barely uses his digital camera, so I wasn't sure if he was going to like it. But, he ended up loving it. He uses it all the time. It is so easy to upload the videos, too. All you do is plug the pop-out USB into your computer. After the holidays, we were able to share our videos with both of our families by just uploading them on to everyone's computers. The quality of the video is pretty good too.

When we got the Flip, there was a black blotch on the screen. It didn't hurt the video recording quality, but was annoying because you couldn't view the videos on the screen completely. Amazon was very timely about sending a replacement. They did not give me any hassles and it didn't cost me anything for the replacement. I would buy all of my electronics here!


Great product!
I bought this as birthday gift for my partner, and he admires it absolutely! To use super+simple is, comes with batteries in the box, and we had no problems up to now. It thinks its old nieces 13-year that it is the coolest thing on the mass and it is the envy of its chap friends (it is BTW 40). We had lots fun get it to the social cases. Hum . . .
Nice little movie maker, but . . .
Looks cool. Takes great movies, --but the software is junk. I can't upload to pc or mac the conventional way--or the 'flip' way. Their upgrades don't work either. Shah, --our IT guy at work couldn't even make it work. I have, however, found a way to save the movies. Have to go through the back door, which has its own rewards? I think I'll keep her--'till I get a notion to go in the front.

WOW WOW WOW!
I was not on the purchase of this camera recorder however very very sceptically, now there I had him I, regret, to make the decision. This baby SWINGS! The illustration quality is good and entire its a good implementing THANKING GOD, which I locked right acquisition after careful reports of the different products, which cost 2 to 3mal so much. It must permit that the size of the report screen is not the best desire, they let which please it in the 2.5-Zoll-Schirm however for the price you DIAGONAL for more. I normally write NEVER at all a report, but for this video camera of the light impact I had to only inform you chaps.... Large product to use simply and small enough EVERYWHERE take it with you. Much impresses!

I think all, which I can say honestly, never again even of getting from very large (relatively here speaking) Hp jed possible trick Kamerarecorder to the attempt and take the daily precious moments prisoner! More easily impact settles a ehrfuerchtige work, requires no effort to use, and is really practical.


Nice product, bad software
I just got my flip video today. The video quality when played back on my TV or computer looks really nice for the size and price of the product. Problem is I can't get the software to install on my computer. Multiple people have said they can't get the videos to play without running them through the software. The files play just fine for me in Windows Media Player Classic (free download on google as part of the klite codec pack) by just simply dragging and dropping them onto my computer. For the price, couldn't ask for a more convenient little camcorder, and even if the software installed it's really no good for anything but transfering videos and I seem to have solved that problem, so overall, I'm pleased.


lousy camera
I bought one of those Flip cameras. If you are planning to purchase one, don't do it. I own an Apple and I can't access their software without a down loading extra software which I can't download. So now I'm stuck with a camera that won't let me do what the company had promised. This company sucks. I am very disappointed in Amazon for advertising this camera. I bought it basically because I trust Amazon. Am I the only one who has found this outfit a rip off? Also it is almost impossible to see the viewing screen in bright sunlight. Very dissatisfied in this camera and Amazon.

Handy video camera

I had problems with the first camera, which I received: it held, up means computers to lock itself even after the Downloading of a necessary update. Thus I came that first back, and was lucky that second was not problems at all with the computer, or the camera. Flip Camera means you don't have to miss ANYTHING
I ordered this camera the day after my small Babyneffeen (for, whom we are "grandparents" for my died brother and sister in the law.) It was functioning in the rare form -- stupid and singing... Why lose the viewfinder?
I saw this camera today as my boss just got one. I was wowed until I realized there's no viewfinder. I believe many digital cameras are going this route and I don't get it. My 52 year old eyes are presbyopic, a natural occurrence if one lives long enough; I can't focus up close without reader glasses. I could use the viewfinder, if available, without glasses. Also, how does one see the screen in bright sunlight? If it's like my cell phone, one can't. Another reason for keeping viewfinders. My 2 cents.


Terrific
All you could expect in a shirt-pocket-sized device that at the same time is remarkably inexpensive. The optics/resolution is excellent, sound pickup just fine. An important consideration is the internally-generated computer platform, which makes it easy to transfer and forward pictures whereever there is a computer. I bought this for a ten year-old. He and his younger brother were doing editing jobs before you knew it.


Failed
I did not receive straight my 80 ultra and it functioned. The clay/tone continues the screen up to approximately 2 seconds. The screen does not play on my Microsoft screen (expenditure for night). The email did not play, as sent. The Unterstuetzungstechempfehlung to regulate the problem did not regulate the problem. The only good thing, which I can say, is that the screen played friendly with fast time of the apples. I estimate that I received a straight bad unit.


Astonishing
The Flip Video is an amazing product. The quality of the pictures and audio is remarkable, coming from a 2" x 4" camcorder with solid state storage instead of mechanical tape or disk, an hour long capacity in the Ultra model (adequate for most occasions), two AA cells for power, simple controls and zoom capability, easy connection to computer and TV, it is hard to find anything to criticize. Oh, yes. The playback audio from the internal speakers of the camera itslf is nearly inaudible, but OK on computer or TV.

Great product, lousy customer service at FlipVideo
This is a fabulous product. It's incredibly easy to use (especially if the software functions properly, which it didn't with our first FlipVideoUltra purchase). You can capture short, remarkably high quality videos with the click of a button. Saving them to your hard drive is really easy, too, although figuring out how to email them is a bit more challenging and takes a few more steps. Our one big complaint is that FlipVideo's customer service, in a word, sucks. We tried to get help when we initially had trouble loading the software and the rep was really unhelpful. After an hour, she ended up referring us to their Tech help...via email! They didn't respond at all and it took us trying to load software from a friend's FlipVideo to realize the fault was in our camera's software set up--we returned it and the replacement functions perfectly. We also submitted an entirely different question to FlipVideo via their online interface...and received no response. The good news is that this camcorder is very intuitive, for the most part....but only if the software works! :-)


FlipVideo a winner
This small cam provides sharp picture and adequate sound.
I use the Ultra 60 minutes model and purchased the small tripod for the unit. It is a practical method of recording a pictorial record of your valuables and to capture events indoor or outdoor.
The flip USB connection is ingenious.
The red button to start/stop is not at the best location but it works.
My unit did not fuction well due to firmware error. After several discussions with their support, I found out how to download the correct firmware from their site. It is working fine since then. Recommended.

The straight box opened 30 minute... to use it one forwards was for Brise to to be based and. Updated firmware---still having issues....
I did not expect that miracles with this product wished... I simply a cheap way to note short videos mainly for use on my computer or YouTube. I have a Sony digital camera, which settles an average work with videos, but, after reading off all reports 5-star on Amazon, I decided to buy, the light impact ultra. Many of the reports indicate expenditures here as the impact often commodity, which locks itself above, after reading off from the light impact however I believed insured that it gives a microprogram list update, which this repair. I updated successfully the software before high-loading videos to my computer and too in the morning expenditures STILL experiencing. First away, I have a brand-new Dell laptop, which lets Windows Vista run. However more easily impact indicated that the new microprogram list update repaired the software, which is expenditure even with Vista. The expenditures, which I still experience: - the software locks itself above. It permits me to pull the videos from the light impact once there to my computer but, the playback is either very slow or does not work not on all. I strike the "play" key and her freeze. I took 3 videos today, which I cannot watch out, because she freezes. - steer by the impact often commodity menu simply is lengthy. It takes extremely long (if it completely does not freeze above), in order to preselect the different videos to go between the film manufacturer to the share options, etc.. Extremely frustrating. - the film forming software (again, if it functions -- sometimes the result are you a vacant film, which does not become play), cuts automatically my videos to 20 seconds in the length. My Sony digital camera settles a better work. - the automatic-threading button is annoying (necessity to work firmly) and the zoom shot is useless (I expected the fact that for the price), but I could around that, if receives the product worked. - USB was hard, in the gates on mine to begin computer-believed, how it was a firm seat. Also the way the gates on my laptop are arranged, can I the light impact have did not attach and my energy adapter closed at the same time on (disturbing, but I can receive surplus, also). The pro: - small, nicely (I received the Pink) and simply to carry with you everywhere. - simply to use (if the software work). - I like the ability to high-load videos directly to YouTube. I hope that my unit is there defective (it so many reports 5-star gives, hopes I that this the case?? is) and that of Amazon exchange it for a new required.


Love the Flip
I bought ultra and it functioned not correctly. Amazon did not exchange it a PROBLEM. The second is large ultra. It is the contract to confuse simply to use however I found it a point in order to high-load and communicate on a web page. The flip video was given to me as a christmas present and right away I could see the many things I could do with it being forcasted in my head...


Ok the ease of use and "what it is is what it is." Makes up for the lack of some features. What I'd really like to see is AUDIO INPUT! Nothing suites me more like being able to record a 480 video with my own microphone. Okay, I know the mic is great, but think if I were at a preformance for an indie rock band and I wanted to have their set shown on myspace and all I could get was just the shortwaves of overbearing loudness being jerked around in binary mis-mixing and screeches. It's like everyone camera phone video you've ever listened to the audio off of, horrid. Okay, so besides the fact that digital isn't like analog and has a limit to decibals you can input, (following sony's handycam audio mishaps) there was one other feature I would have liked to have seen, STILLS! Okay, come on. there is no reason I can't have a still setting. I could have photos and video at 480! That's been my standard since I was born, 480! I don't even care about high definition at this point, 480 isn't distracting and the photos for what they are would appear nice. I guess you can isolate frames, but I am pretty sure this records in MPEG, which FILLS IN some frames, rendering a compression to minimize hard drive usage. So you can get stills, but not really like a digital camera and certainly not as effective.

This camera is great, there is an underwater attatchment for 50 bucks and it's now my primary video recorder. Screw DVC, there is no imperative reason for not replacing tape stock with recorded dvds or thumb drives. I'd like to see this thing in future models have a mic input so I can use a shotgun to record interviews with it. I hope panasonic buys flip video, they'd be making a good decision.

Welcome to the future, I would have killed for something like this for 145 dollars when I was a kid. Time to show the world what you can do!

Brilliant idea, thoroughly inept execution.
I bought this, thereby my wife for the improvised lubricating film formation of the girls during Christmas used and explain that it'd than a conventional camera recorder is handier. We were struck, which (which I learned later), the usual problem: it freezes during the video driving powers. We sent it inside to Flipvideo (OH -, as I wish myself, had it to Amazon for a rueckerstattung returned). 4 weeks later, we received (, any probability at the holiday lubricating film formation missing because of a defective camera)the camera. Well you can estimate supposed, which happened: the new camera freezes also during the video driving powers. Some corners, which establish these puppies, cut someone. This product could - was to have been bright. Instead it is, disappointing a large and frustrates loss. I should add that, if it is attached to USB it the USB energy it does not run away, instead continue inside to high-load running away the batteries I should know white, after ichgesehen her ichgesehen had to let batteries run into the soil during it (endlessly) tried, the videos. Additionally although they promised to remove the preceding videos from the camera to and to send them on a DVD, Flipvideo did not do such thing. They left the videos on the camera and mentioned continue there disturbing...


Awesome camcorder!!!
This little unit is Awesome!! It is so simple I didn't need the directions, at all!!. The video and audio quality is remarkably excellent. The software is simple and cleverly designed. I didn't need directions for that either.
I expected to pay 3 times the price for this quality.

Flip for the Flip
I purchased the camera for school. It couldn't be any easier to use -- power button, record, play, trash. When you want to download, just pop out the USB and stick it in the computer. The film rate isn't great for quick movements, but the quality is nice and for the size and money you can't do much better.


The Fantastic Flip
I'm in love with this little gagit - It's light and compact enough to ride around in my purse, making it always at the ready for that random video documentation. The editing and internet posting software it comes with is incredibly easy to use and fun to mess around with - you can even set your video montage to music of your choosing. My only wish is that it had some sort of attached lighting system for darker settings, but daytime/indoor shots are always clear and the sound quality is great. Yay Flip!


Pretty neat for its purpose
This was a Christmas present for my 9 year old who kept using up the memory card on my point and shoot camera to take videos of his friends, stuffed animals, etc. Since I am all about letting his freak flag fly, I decided to give him his own camera and encourage this behavior. This camera has been great for that purpose. The lack of an SD card hasn't mattered. Most home videos longer than 5 minutes will never get watched again in our house. The only complaint is that you can't FF or REW within a video when reviewing it on the camera. We have used the editing software and it's what you'd expect for the price. Exporting in MPEG-4 format is great for sharing videos that even my Mom can open from an email.

This into the Dominican republic and took approximately 5 hours took fantastische videos. Sharp, as can be. To use simply. I straight downloadete the videos on a laptop and had sufficient video time for the complete week. This everyone would recommend. Everyone on the journey wished and I is sure that half of them bought it.

Don't buy if you're on a Mac
I had bought high hopes for the light impact and a right before first Christmas of my baby boy. It is simple and no ruffles. Large material. Then I tried to downloaden. It was a confusion and the only way out should again load. After hours of attempts I never received it, in order to work. Finally I examined and learned that they had marks to regulate to these problems. .... the Macversion would not only come out until January. O.k., is it February now and I found to the marks. IT IS ONLY FOR LEOPARDS! What? The idea with this camera was to form things simply. My experience was everything however.


I'm A YouTuber and LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!
After reading all the comments about the FLIP camera, I was very reluctant about getting this to help me create my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb on YouTube" video series. I've been wanting to take the show on the road and do more than just static videos. So, I decided to take a chance and get this!

BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!!

The quality of the video is outstanding for the price and size of this camera. And the best part is it stabilizes the video for you automatically so you don't have the "Blair Witch Project" syndrome with a shaky camera. I shot a video the other day of cooking low-carb fried chicken and the FLIP camera got me right in the action while I was cooking. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!

But even better was how easy it was to upload the video to my computer and then to YouTube. I have an iMac (yes, to all those crybabies who say this camera doesn't work with a Mac--WRONG!) and flipped out the USB port on the side of the camera to connect to my computer. There was no software to install and it came right up on the computer. I easily imported the video footage I had shot into iMovie and produced my YouTube video show as normal. IT WAS SO SUPER SIMPLE!!!

If you are into shooting casual videos, then you HAVE to get this camera. It will add so much to my YouTube video series and I look forward to using it early and often. You WON'T be disappointed!

I was so excited.
This is a great little product to have if you plan on carrying it around in your purse for quick videos. If it is quality you want then your gonna need to spend a little more money and get a real video camera. I love it cause it is small and conveniant, you get what you pay for basically.


Lasted 97 days. Warning to Buyers
Bought Flip Video Ultra on October 30, 2007. Unit died on February 6, 2008 just a few days after the 90 day warranty expired. Connects to and is recognized by computer but simply does not transfer anything to or from computer. Very unhappy, would never buy again. Also, the original software loaded on it was obsolete when I received it, updated that, and now discover yet another emergency update is needed. Problem is emergency update also will not work. Other drawbacks to this piece of terribly designed junk are that the usb arm built onto it will not fit computer usb ports unless you physically hold the unit next to the port or buy a usb extension cable (if you do not the usb arm breaks off the device). Also has no port for allowing use of SD cards etc to expand video capacity. Very unhappy. Buy something else.


Do NOT Buy a FLIP video Camera
I purchased the Flip in November. Soon after I was unable to copy my videos off the camera. Eventaully the FLip folks had me send the camera to them. They almost broke their arms with the pride of successfully fixing my camera and saving my WEDDING videos. They said they shipped the camera in December. It has never arrived. After many attempts to reach these people they asked me to describe the videos and they "would look around and see if the camera was there". No response once again. Next time I inquired they sent me a new camera and all kinds of accesories as an apology until my camera was found. Now it's February and still no camera. They never answer my e-mails, and if I call they say "we're going to send this up to the executive level". I'm assured someone will be in touch. But they never are. At this point I'm going to return the replacement camera and recommend to everyone to NOT ever buy the Flip Camera.


Crazy easy and fun!
It seems inappropriate to do a written review of something that makes it so easy to do a video review! Just received my Flip today, and immediately proceeded to make, download, and upload several videos. This tiny, inexpensive device is simple to operate and does what it promises. I'm very pleased with it!


Nifty Gadget
Referred to as "the shoot and share camcorder," this nifty hand-held gadget is about the size of my MP3 player and is really easy to use. (And I am technologically challenged.) I actually figured it out all by myself without going through feelings of extreme inadequacy. My biggest hurdle this time was getting the box open (actually, finding the nerve to open the box).

It comes with a fabric pouch to carry it in (or you could buy a small inexpensive sturdy camera case). It also comes with a small hand-strap and cable connectors to attach to the TV, if you want to. There is a quad-fold start guide and a website for customer support. Oh! And it comes with 2 regular Duracell AA batteries!--so no special batteries to buy. (Note: the pamphlet recommends Energizer e2 Lithium AA batteries, which are also pretty easy to find.) The unit itself is about 1" deep, about 6" long, and about 3" wide. Kind of reminds you of a hand-held digital camera, which it kinda is (except no SanDisk for the pix, you just download pix/video to your PC). It has a switch on the side that you slide and a USB port flips out, hence, "Flip Video" gadget. You flip the switch again, and it pops back in. It captures 60 minutes of video (I thought I saw 2 gig somewhere) and runs down the remaining time on the screen so you can tell what you have left.

The box claims that you have one-touch recording, 2 x digital zoom, instant playback and delete. It claims that you can launch built-in software, snap still photos from videos, make custom movies, watch instantly on TV, get DVDs made at stores, email videos and publish online. They state you can also upload your videos to AOL or YouTube.

Although I have not tested all the features yet, I did point and shoot a video and delete it, and it was painless. Yes, it does have sound and you can use a tripod with it if you like. The zoom feature is only 2 x digital, but it works. You can also easily set a time and date to the gadget when you initially start it up.

It's a nifty gadget you can slip into your pocket or purse. Welcome to the 21st Century!

I love my flip it's small cute and i carry mines everywhere, u never know when your going 2 see something intresting.


The software doesn't work
I've tried installing the software for this camera on 4 different machines:
- a large, recent Dell workstation running xp professional
- a Macintosh G4 workstation running Tiger 10.4
- an older Dell laptop running xp professional
- a Mac powerbook pro running Tiger 10.4

On all platforms, the initial install either didn't work (interrupted with errors) - or if it did, all functions of the camera that were advertised to take 10 or 15 minutes actually would have run for 10 or 15 HOURS (according to the computed time of completion once the number popped up.) So the camera is useless to me for any computer interaction.

Having said that, the camera itself was a very pleasant surprise after having read some of the negative reviews. Mine actually appears to be a pretty solid little unit - seemingly worth well beyond what I paid for it. I think, given it's function, both the image and audio quality are surprisingly good - markedly better than any cell phone generated video I've seen, for sure.

Another positive note - tech support seems to be hanging with me in trying to fix my problem - except that I need to interpret all their instructions for the Mac since I can't convince them I'm not working on a PC (I just settled on trying to get this to work on the Macbook pro.)

Given the reviews in general, I'm glad to see I'm obviously in the minority with this problem - I suppose this will culminate on a camera replacement.

Good, but not good enough.
I was surprised, if someone received a light impact, which was not defective. The OKAYGruben work however there is somewhat above with the time and driving power characteristics. Sometimes, after I high-load the video tie-clip and mean light impact from the PC remove, I regard fast the screen in the light impact and in its gone?(Sometimes). I recommend it that everyone buys this product at a memory, in which it to return could, if it it(Best a problem with purchase gives). Entirely, it has large quality and to be very small and brightly. It works well for the v-logging of their home/office.


Excellent product - excellent customer service/support!
My kids received the impact camera recorder for Christmas, and it continuous since then used. The video and audio quality are surprisingly good, and the camera recorder is enough schroff, so that my 5yo uses, without too much on my part nail to bites. But the most amazing thing over the product is the SERVICE, which is behind it. We had an expenditure with the Schlussen memory of the camera recorder (not the disturbance of the device - my kids left it several times!) fall, and the assistance desk stuck to pure digital with us, until we kept the problem regulated. I was with the speed and helpfullness the support staff much pleased, particularly there the problem our disturbance was complete! VERY IN HIGH ONE OF DEGREES RECOMMENDED!


Not Very Good. Too many bugs!
I bought this camera, because I after something to use was simple with acceptable quality searched. This camera falls below, evenly at the price. Finally you can receive a "material" video camera with LOTS characteristics for approximately $80 more. Problem of 1: The software, which came with it, was not compatible either with my Windows.xp or Vista computers. The only thing was actual that the "software", Bekehrtes the video document to avi the format. Even this was the result guesswork and not because the instructions or the software were useful. They must let the software, which does not work then run, but, it converts your document, while it is with "concluding" that it does not function. LARGE PROBLEM OF 2: In the calm attitudes like an area, the camera notes its own internal memory tones. Each few seconds hear you that a strange and VERY perceptible beep of this takes second for one approximately. This means that you become NOT in the situation its to use this camera in order an acceptable screen to form (it is clay/tone sufficient surrounding it gives to drown to from the odd small processor clay/tone which is most probable an impact of the data, those on the internal memory to be noted). So you can use it for work, or form instructing videos, or no other videos to form, in which sound quality removes a factor is even. Problem of 3: There is a very MATERIAL problem with the large red recording key. It does not register correctly, if you press it. They can think that you note, because you are safe the fact that you pressed it firmly but, there sits the camera in "ready"modus, not "REC" in the mode. The SCHLAG people were versed in this switch problem for a long time, because it, to a problem to still be is inexcusably. My summary is that the camera is practically useless. She loads automatically videos at to YouTube or no other web site. The software is an art product, which does not work on the computer. Secondly, the intolerable electronic noises, which make this screen uselessly excluded as toy. And last the ridiculously insusceptible RED ONE KEY, which steers the recording and the final function. On the plus side is it, stores little overall length small, and you cannot play let your kids with it, because them are, like it valuable something to ruin.


So Easy To Use
This is the simplest videozu uses camera. I possessed those video home system camera, the Minidvd camera and am this the by far best. No extensive also to drag individual parts, fair point and recording. Immediate playback. I have the 60 minute of one and I note a quantity of activity of my enkelkinder with that. I love it. I would recommend in high degrees of this to everyone! As soon as you try this, do not go back to still somewhat.


Videos of Frank, particles, waves
I got this for one reason, and one reason only. Frank. The camera is drawn to him. Yes. He is a tad overweight. Yes. He drinks to much.

I first started filming Frank on my cell phone, when he was eating corn. His bites were methodical and precise, his execution complete, not a kernal remained. Eye contact with the camera all the way through. I lost that phone and the memories contained within it while on a trip. It's somewhere in Central America.

Moving on. I haven't seen Frank since getting this camera, so it is tough to adequately review it. I did break up with a girl that I shot a video of, so from that point of view, it will give a lasting imprint. No. Not that kind of video.

Videos are windows into events that occurred at some point. But...is the presence of the camera in and of itself altering those being viewed? I suspect many of you are looking for something to capture life's little moments - a quickly growing child, a vacation, perhaps a video of you watching your favorite show (yes. So postmodern). Think twice. This act of observance changes that which is being observed. Heidenberg, I think. So? Are you a wave or a particle.

Think on it.

This product works as well as advertised. This is excellent for note taking, documenting a harassment/stalking case and acting silly, if you're into the Youtube thing.


Cool easy-to -use gadget
I received straight mean light impact been enterprising ultra and its in 5 minutes. Differently than a quantity gives other users with software, found I no problems out. But I did not downloadete the impact update of their web site, before I took all possible videos and with the updated software, there was problems. The screen and the clay/tone seem fine for a device, which costs 150 dollars. And I have already a bundle of fun mixtures in 10 minutes!

Great Little "Keep it in my Purse" Camcorder
My "good" camcorder, a Sony miniDV died last month, just as I started creating my own video podcast on my website. Replacing it outright would have cost over 5 hundred dollars, something I didn't have. After hearing raves about the Flip from a friend, and reading reviews here, I decided that this would be a good placeholder camera until I could afford a good one.

I have to tell you, for what looks like a little toy camera, the quality of the video has amazed me. No, it's not the same quality as my Sony, but I did not buy this camera looking for MiniDV quality.

I can provide a list of things I wish the Flip Ultra had, but I know darned well that to get those things would add 100-200 more dollars to the price.
- So no, there's no real zoom, and using the digital 2x zoom is pointless and destroys the quality of the picture. But I haven't done any filming that required true zoom.
- Being able to use SD cards in addition to the built in memory would be fantastic. The 2 gig (1 hour) memory on the Ultra was more than enough for a full road trip to Maine - we didn't come close to using it all up.
- The sound quality could be a little better, but I have no problem hearing it, and when I edit the movies on my Mac, I just boost the volume manually as needed. And it isn't always needed.

One of the big benefits of the Ultra is that the files save in AVI format, so I plug it into my Mac, drag the files over, and no translation of any kind is required. (I do not have this luxury with my son's Aiptek camera, a competitor for the Flip. I need to use software to grab those files.)

One hint - we had purchased some dollar store batteries around the holidays and I used them in the Flip and the side effect was that it started to freeze up on me. I don't think the batteries were providing enough consistent power to the camera. I pulled those out and put in name brand "electronics" level AA batteries and all the freezing up problems immediately went away. Don't cheap out on the batteries. They seem to last a fairly long time, and you can always get rechargeables.

Amazing for the money
I regarded the light impact ultra for one while, before I decided to waive. I became excited that I did within the minutes... however burned through away within the hours. We were on our way back of a short journey from condition. I fetched it at a best purchase and began lubricating film formation in the car within approximately 2 minutes of beginning to open the package. I filmete some occasional shots of my wife and daughter in the heads way. I went inside and sat with my pro MacBook and wanted to see, how simple this would be. SIMPLY. The camera appeared on my desk, opened I the drive, went to drug, those the screen into iMovie arranges and straight to drawing up without transformation (however I had already Divx attached), was better the overall length, than I expected. The screen with acceptable for good lighting looked over, how I had expected, but the screen of the untereren light, which became to geschauen better, than I could have introduced myself. Surely, he was large not..., but it was low light. For the money, which was this A, must have for me. I to possess older and rather high end a data processing camera and I investigate a new hp camera now. The thing is, sometimes can you not at those arrive..., or you would not like to carry it around. This camera is small, large quality, to use and simply. We leave it in such a way around lying, if the kids begin to do something which we seize and lubricating film formation in the seconds be can it. My wife wishes their and our 8 a yearly tried to convince me that it needs in addition. The thing is supposed, it. Easy to use Flip Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-minutes
I bought several this camera recorder of the light impact ultra for weihnachtsgeschenke for our family, which members the world scattered. They are excellently in the pocket size, convenient, and, therefore we can take them everywhere. A large product!


nice design and easy to use
I bought this screen for my married man as weihnachtsgeschenk. He did not like it pretty good and the beginning to use to it which seemed away.It simple right enough to use it lasted one second out to find, how one uses it.

After 3 exchanges, this last unit I got back from Flip finally works now. I think they updated the firmware or whatever. 10 stars for their tech support.

The only inconvenience was to look for a UPS store to ship the thing back; and, missed the chance to take it to CES 2008 to take some video.

OTOH, I highly recommend this camcorder. (when it works of course) It is small. It is pocket sized. It is easy to use. Unlike other brands, there is nothing to flip out before you can use it. The picture quality is not bad. Low light performance is pretty good. It comes with a metal tripod hole. And for trying the unit, I pointed it to my TV one time and it took a 2-hours video with the AA batteries before the batteries ran out. The software that comes with the Flip is pretty good too.

On the down side, the batteries get very hot when I let it runs for 2 hours. There is no image stabilization. So, you better have a steady hand to hold the camcorder. But this is not major. The major problem is that the battery negative lead inside the right battery compartment is flat and it is placed inside the plastic casting. Sometimes some of the rechargeable AA batteries (ones that have a flat bottom) cannot make contact to the negative lead.

Of course the Flip can't match the performance of the Sanyo XACTI I saw in CES 2008. but for 1/10 the price of the Sanyo, the flip is a winner.


Flippin' Fun
I bought this product, because my family far away on me lives most. My kids are in the High School and referred into a quantity different activities also. The videos, which I take and portion with my family are priceless and much better than a straight verbal decription. The videos are much free and the software, very simply are to be used. The fact that it condenses the videos for email, is even better. OH- and the kids may also use them, in order to divide cases with their friends. Everyone may see itself on screen. Mine only problem is up to now the front housing, in which you fell down the batteries change, while I took screen family of the Skiing. With my gloves to noted I not that I really the subject and lost him opened.


Worthless Junk, Poor Customer Support
My experience with my Flip camera is nowhere near as glowing as many of the reviews posted. Unfortunatley, I am also past the warrenty date, so I am stuck with this little paperweight. Buyer beware.

I took a few clips of my Grandaughter and decided to put them on my computer. The camera-imbedded interface came up the first time and then imediately froze up. An instructional pop-up informing of a firmware update appeared, and when the update completed, the "flip" editing and saving guides were gone, along with two of the three clips. The remaining clip somehow saved as a windows media player file. But the "easy to upload" to YouTube panel that was originally there from Flip, along with the Flip easy edit tools have vanished.

Emails to Flip have given me nothing I can use to fix the problem. The replys are all in tech-speak, which left me with a product that was obviously thrown on the market before the bugs were all removed. Worthless.


Great Camera!
I love it b/c I am on the go and it is small, light and so easy to use. I have 5 kids and it is great to video immediately and watch immediately. We end up watching the video more than we ever did with the cassette taping video cameras of days past. It's about time!


CHristmas Bonus
I bought this camera for my married man, while he was in, its family for Christmas to see and I in was not to be capable the journey because of the work to form. It terminated up those, which I went along and we received large overall length of the complete family at the Weihnachtstag that I was then in that, to divide with my family in addition. This camera was very simple to use and was in the situation to high-load our overall length on everyone otherwise computer, so that they could have a copy. The quality looks also on my 37"Fernsehapparat largely.


No Rechargeable Battery
My Experience with cameras with no rechargeable battery is awful.
If you use them alot the battery might not even last a 60 min give or take a bit depending on the camera.
With coppertop duricells and lets face it lithiums are really expencive.
Your wasting your money on batteries.
Save yourself the headache get a camera with a rechargeable battery.


Did not FLIP and returned
Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (Black)

I did purchase this item from Amazon and returned it just three weeks later. The item failed to boot on either of my two computers as a recognized USB device on its third usage. Help from FLIP took over 24 hours to receive and their suggestions did not work. For the price and size I had hoped that this would be a great addition to my photographic equipment but it appears FLIP developers need to "bullet proof" this product and reintroduce it to the marketplace when it works reliably. So I sent it back. Use with caution!


Flip Video Ultra
I already have a high end digital camera and was looking for a quick access camcorder/digital camera. This fits the bill. Stills can be captured using the included software. Great video results. Would have given it 5 stars if the resolution was in the mega and zoom was more than x2. Overall I use this more that the high end digital for day to day capturing.

Easy to use, however I had lots of problem with a software upgrade. Not as easy too copy or e-mail.


Can't beat it for price and ease of use
We got this for Christmas and we were able to use it instantly after opening it and inserting the batteries. It was so easy our six-year old could figure out how to record. I love the size!!! I carry it in my purse or pocket so I can use it anywhere anytime--unlike a bulky expensive videocamera. Definitely it is better to have the 60 minute capacity than the 30 minute one. It goes through double AA batteries pretty quickly so a battery charger might be a good investment. We have used this to send video emails to our family. We were able to easily connect it to our TV to instantly watch our videoclips. The software it comes with is pretty good with some basic editing options. You can add music, do vintage style, black and white, and 3 other options. I was able to transfer my videos to my Windows Movie Maker where I had more editing options.
I have enjoyed this little thing and am very happy with my purchase so far.


Good Enough for My Teen
We bought the Flip for our daughter for Christmas and she was very excited when she saw what she'd received. She was able to use it with good results and without referring to the instructions.

The only drawback seems to be that it eats batteries quickly (hence the 4 stars), so if you're planning on using this for a lot of shooting, make sure you have plenty of batteries on hand.


Flip Ultra is ultra easy to use. Excellent for day-to-day family video
For its price, it is a great product. Have not missed a moment of my kids since I have the Ultra. The firing-up time is superb. The quality is what-you-paid-for, not HD, but very very good. It gets 4 stars for limited capture time. If there is a memory card slot to increase capture time beyond 1 hour, then the nice battery life can be fully utilized. Use of a memory card may also allow faster file transfer. The battery life of AA batteries is great.

Maybe Flip can make a "HD" version in the near future by adding a memory card slot, sticking to the AA batteries with long life, adding a standard USB cable and/or giving more flexibility to the flip-out USB connector to accomodate different connecting configurations while keeping the device affordable.

Lots of fun using it. The quality of the video will not be disappointing. One may be surpised at how good it looks on PC and esp. non-HD TVs. Great job, Flip Ultra.


So Much Fun!
Best gift we received this past Christmas! It's easy to use, recharge, and edit the videos you record. Comes with it's own editing software that allows not only editing, but gives you the option to capture a single picture from a moving video. We also purchased the protective case and tripod which have been used quite frequently.

Great little gadget!
I bought this as gift for my fiance, because she said that we needed a video camera to take on journeys for "our memories" together. Well I have a Sony VX2000, which is a ehrfuerchtiger camera recorder, but it is intended for more serious work and is to take to on holidays a little large. So stolpere I over this on Amazon and after I around geschauen had, I decided, to buy. It could not be luckier! (well, the engagement ring took central stage, but it became over this also! excited) if you this buy for, which is meant it, in order to be; a fun, very mobile and simply, to camera recorders, you are to use very much fulfilled. If you buy it wishing the following George Lucas or steven play mountain its, do not waste your time. To use is very simple and its small compact size lets it a belt in a pocket/purse for taking on the road throw. It has surprisingly good quality video safety device and a very fast to begin above time to determine. A lighter impact of a key and the USB of plug-easy impacts out and you are ready, your videos for your computer after a short to high-load self-loading program attach. The battery life seems to be pretty good. Their it is hardly used for one approximately month and we still is on the first set of the batteries. If I had to weight and me trust, I would not really like me about this fantastische small thing, it would weight its the zoom shot. The zoom shot is very limited and has not a good distance. That being means, I did not expect to have a Telephotozoom or a nothing close. The zoom shot is the only weak part of this camera recorder and that not even takes off from the entire package. Fair taking a step or two forward or backwards. Voila! Zoom shot!

We bought this video camera for our 6 yr. old grandson. He loves it. It is very easy to use. I recommend getting the rechargeable batteries, especially if it's a younger person who is using the Flip Video

Drawing up the characteristics includes in the software -- however down stripped and simply, differently than other annoying software, which comes frequently with cameras....

Great Camera
I purchased this for my husand. We love it. Very easy to use. We have four kids and it is great to capture memories. The picture and sound quality are very good. If you re looking for something inexpensive and easy to use this is for you.


ultra flip camcorder
I bought this camcorder for a special event. It is easy to use and the video quality was great. The viewfinder is more that adequate in size. I was able to record onto DVD's from my recorder at home and give them to family members. It was great. I am planning to use it quite a bit this summer. We live in the thousand islands region and have a boat. Many great movies and pictures to be taken there.


Not Quite A Flip Flop
Purchased the Flip camera. Good price, decent little 'throw away' camera. Decent value. That being said, expect what you pay for. With this inexpensive camera, you don't get good quality shots, you don't get good sound, you don;t get a decent zoom (take 3 steps closer and you pretty much duplicated its zoom capabilities). DO NOT GET IT IF YOU HAVE A MAC/APPLE. It says that its software works on both Mac and PC, but it doesn't. The video transfers over easily, but the sound is all gabled and not usable. We have to put it on a PC, then burn them to a disc, then upload the disc to the Mac. Anyway, it's a decent little one to leave in your backpack or purse or car, but don't rely on it to capture important events.

We bought this camera recorder for our daughters of this Christmas. They love it absolutely. They may form their own small films and the illustration quality are really pretty good. We goods in the situation to set their films on disk without any problems. The batteries seem to the latter a good time also. Now my married man wishes, so that its birthday with him takes, if it wheel-drives traces out.

Well worth the price
The light impact is ultra a simple better thought from product. It takes large screen and is to more tranfer to other devices simple. Ultra takes large screen and is large for activity of shots. I mostly use it for the Shotting extreme sport. The quality is largely and simple to keep. I became recomend this impact screen each possible beginner by pro.


Simple? ...Yes!! ......But Beware
This is simple a large small cheap video camera, the WONDERFUL is to be used. I bought a last week in the morning and, which were impressed very much with that video and audio quality. From the illustration and from the sound quality camera recorder with hulking the video home system, which I used in the late year, compares, which was very good. My video camera of the light impact ran to the right from the box without problems. Instruction the book can be inside read 5 minutes and is very free and simple. I love this small camera. A word of the advice: People, which consider, the light impact to buy necessity for the video camera to be safe that it or the final user has firm fundamental knowledge of the computers. I know that this sounds obviously most people, but people out there, particularly older citizens, who are tightened to the idea by simplicity, particularly in the respect to electronics, is not still it gives it the formed computer. They let run out and buy individual parts with the hope of enjoying them, over with frustration only above to windings because of a lack of computer abilities. They do not need advanced abilities, but a firm fundamental knowledge of the attachment of of software and of of data relocating is A must.


Very Simple and Useful
Opened the package and read a little of the instructions, and away I went. So simple I couldn't believe it. Husband plugged it into the TV and we watched it right then.
Had watched the video on Amazon thats what sold me! No more with the bulky Camcorder.
Granted the quality isn't a camcorder, but for quick shots of the just about anything really I can't think of anything better.
Husband is using it to record the interior of our 77 Corvette, along with pictures.


Easy to use!
I have a new baby without time to read instruction of manuals and I do not have for this camera! It is to use thus intuitively and simply can you it, immediately to use begin. Established in USB is large, therefore you do not have to worry yourselves around losing a cord. Love it!


mixed opinions
on one hand the quality of the video is amazing for the size and price of the camcorder. the camcorder is easy to use and it's easy to upload to your computer (although you have to install their 3ivx decoder in order to get the videos to play/convert them to another format) ... which is a slight annoyance but nothing too major.. my problem is after uploading the videos upon careful listen you can hear a beeping that either the camera or the decoder put into the video file. the beeping occurs on all of my videos, and i've also heard it on other videos taken by flip ultra that i looked up on youtube and found other users that experience this as well. so it's not a single defective unit. to most people it's un noticeable , but to me it's definitely there and annoying. now i'm debating if it's enough of a problem to return it.. which is a shame because there's no other camera for the price that i'd get instead... so i'd just be stuck without a camcorder again.


great little camera
This is naturally simple a bag, which is shirt-sorted less video camera, those to carry around and use is. The small screen is probably lit up and it gives few controls to confuse to we. On away zoom shot, deletion. Usb the connection swivels out for immediate Download to your computer. I bought, for 5 dollars, usb a cable from for this to to use Amazon, because I do not wish the camera, which hangs of the gate. New users should consider that the company needs an immediate microprogram list ascending, to repair some software errors. As soon as this is done, the system works well. I just high-load my videos to Utube, in order to store it. Hardly everyone sees it, but those is my choice and it is okay. I carry my around for taking the small videos of the daily life; Received and goes to purchase in Walmart, the gas the dog, whatever. Unfortunately into today's security possessed, this is not always possible for ge$$$WESENER world, therefore you practice something consideration. I not the foersee, who form video cameras somehow smaller, fairly, because it would be hard to hold it.


I love this little camera!
The only thing I would say is that if you want a stable video, get a tripod, that's what I plan to do because my videos are all a little shaky.


Ultra Flip Camera
I absolutely love this camera. It's so easy to use, I carry it in my purse and have it handy at all times. Just aim and shoot. As a grandmother, there's always memories happening. The video is crystal clear. I have a regular video camera and it just sits in the closet. Since I received this flip, I use it almost everyday. Give it a try and see for yourself.



One Major Flaw
The camera recorder is unusually simple to use and takes acceptable quality screen, BUT... if noting, the focus does not adjust you inside or out with the zoom shot. Generally if you begin from admission far and inside during the admission zoom shot becomes and remains, the illustration blurry. I much rather the zoom shot choice out when noting close to let, as from focus video have they know now I in these Verschrobenheit out.


Fun camera
This is a great video camera for my 9 year old son and his friends. They have a great time making silly, creative videeo. Laughter resounds when they play them back! Easy to use; easy to download videos to the PC.


Great product ... easy to use.
I bought this for my parents and my girlfriend's parents, both sides have difficulty with technology and computers. However, they both seemed easily use Flip It. Operating the camera is very easily for them and now they know how to upload to the computer with the software already installed on the camera. I am sure the picture quality and features are not up to par with many other digital camcorders, but it is a great camera for the price.


Flip Video Camcorder
Bought the Flip Video Camcorder for my wife as a X-Mas present. She loved it and loves how easy it is to use. It will not replace a full featured digital camcorder (only a 2x zoom), but nothing beats the price and how simple it is to use. It is small enought to carry around and easy to download into your PC. Think of it as the 110 pocket carmera of camcorders (sorry to show my age here).


Totally easy!
The Flip Video Camera is extremely easy to use. I like the USB connection. An hour of video covers most of my needs and the AA batteries last a long time. The 2X zoom is adequate for most occasions. The software fix at Christmas came just in time to fix the download issues that were frustrating. It's a nice basic video camera that's easy to carry around and capture moments that might otherwise be missed. The video quality is okay. Nice device for the price.


Not as good as I hoped
Bought this for my daughter at Christmas. Very easy to operate and loved the size and convience. The item somehow came with faulty software and had to spend 1hour downloading a patch. After that We were able to download pictures to the computer. This is where the item has issues. Every time you take a clip it downloads seperately. It takes hours to stitch all the clips together. The computer couldn't stitch more that 6 clips together at a time. I called the flip people who were to busy and said that they would get back to me but I haven't heard from them. I tried to contact them by e-mail and phone. The picture quality was okay and I was willing to let that go for the convience but I will still be needing a new camcorder as the sluggish computer/download/stitching thing is a drag. My computer is a year old so I don't think that is the problem.


Fun and easy
The flip works great and is easy to upload to your computer and watch on your TV. It doesn't zoom very far so you wouldn't want it for watching your kid play soccer or similar. But for around the house it works great!


Disappointed
I had read so many good reviews about this camera but the longer I own it (around 6 weeks now), the more problems I find.

Pros: small, lightweight, very easy to stick in your pocket or bag, just took on a cross-country trip, also quite cute-looking (I got the orange and white), fairly intuitive to use, slim users' manual, easy to play back on TV

Cons:
1. The red record button sometimes works when I push it and sometimes not. (My fingers are medium sized, by the way.) This has led to a number of videos that don't end when they're supposd to, and usually have my voice in the background saying "Why won't it turn off?" I also have missed some wonderful scenes because it didn't turn on to "record" until I had pressed it 10-20 times.

2. When playing back recorded video on the camera or TV, I have run into the problem a number of times where it says something like "Disc unreadable" in the middle of a video and just stops playing it. No amount of trouble-shooting could fix this. Then maybe a week or two later, the video was suddenly "readable" and would play. This unreliability has meant that close relatives missed seeing important videos during visits.

3. My biggest problem is being unable to burn DVDs from my videos. One of the main reasons I bought this camcorder is because it is supposed to be Mac compatible. I had problems downloading 29 minutes of video to my computer. First, the computer froze when I was transferring all the videos at once. Later, I tried to do it one by one and still encountered the problem in terms of it would get stuck on one video and never finish transferring it. I had to manually shut down the computer each time and restart it. Then after hours of work when I had downloaded the videos to the Flip Library on my computer, I found it impossible to get any Mac applications to read the files in order to burn DVDs. i-DVD said the files were unreadable. With a Mac, you need to use i-DVD to burn DVDs that will be playable in DVD players. I really don't know what to do about this biggest problem, since the reason I bought the camera was to be able to make home movie DVDs of my young daughter.

I would definitely NOT recommend buying this camera and for anyone looking for a low-price camcorder, if you look for sales you can get well-known brands like Panasonic for around $200. I would imagine these work better than the Flip Ultra.

Looking at the reviews so far, I see quite a number in the one-star category. Perhaps quality control for the Flip Ultra is not as good as it should be yet. I am disappointed this camera did not live up to my expectations.

It is a large small camera recorder for everyone. Straight one exactly, which Glenn boiler over it raves. My daughter does not let me borrow, therefore I could have to buy also in was to take our 8mm overall length it on television set to play and him on the light impact note burn you then dvds. we tried him and the detail am thus large, and we store alot the money on bringing. I love my flip video

i think this flip video is easy to use because it does not have a lot of buttons on it. it is light to carry. it is a lot of fun to have and take videos and films . because there memories of what you have took along time ago. its also easy because the power is on the side and you just pull it right down and turns it right on.i love having this video camera around me.


Flip Camera is a worth while purchase
The impact camera works on large and is so simple to use, as soon as I received the updated software. The software does not firt time loads worked, but I wrote the company and her sent to me the connection, in order to update the software and load her, then it functioned as announced. Now it is plug and play.

I purchased this camera because of a review in the Wall Street Journal. It is simple to operate and takes decent video. The main issue I have had is it is fragile. It is made of plastic and you have to be careful when connecting it to your computer. Battery life is not long so you need to use rechargables. I would not purchase it again.


I think I got a defective item
I reviewed this item for a couple of weeks before deciding to purchase it. I read many good reviews on this item. I bought it for a christmas gift for my nephew and he was very excited to get it, he used it for probably one hour and it just quit working. I sent the item back wanting to replace it and was told I could not get another one and was refunded my money. Because my nephew really liked it I bought it from another retailer and will see how that one will work.


Heartbroken Christmas Gift - big promises but poor delivery
We were so eager to receive this camera in the mail so that we could wrap it as a Christmas gift for someone in our family. The product, as presented on the FLIP website, seemed so perfect, the delivery sooooo simple, the results sooooo clean and easy to create! Everything seemed impossibly easy to do. Even the website "sample" videos were to die for, but yet seemed so spontaneous!
Well, Christmas came and went -- with a variety of issues that caused us, at times, to throw our hands-up into the air and wonder if any product could deliver more poorly than this camera. There are many problems with the flip camera. Pure Digital has only delivered issues, not solutions.
No kidding -- this product was launched with an IMMEDIATE NEED for a software "patch" to fix the issues with the camera. We have lost several videos, spent hours trying to make the "upgraded" software from the FLIP site work (which it still doesn't). As far as I am concerned, the developers of this product launched it too quickly, trying to capitalize upon the Christmas sales, but without an answer for the HOST of compatability issues between this product and a PC. How irresponsible!! I am personally capable on a PC, and could not get this thing to work properly using their materials.
Sure, eventually SOME of the camera features work -- but we have lost several videos from our family Christmas, can't create or save the movies using their "built-in" software (which you still must try and somehow install on your computer -- deceptive!), and basically could get better functionality from one of the disposable video cameras that are on the market now! The support line will call you back and/or answer the phone, but they have no answers for compatability problems with their software and a PC.
One silver lining that we have discovered -- it is possible to work with some of the material that you record using Windows Movie Maker. But it is a more complex package than what the manufacturer claims to have developed in their camera.
Don't waste your money. Don't take any videos of value with this camera -- you might lose them. Spend less money and get a disposable.



The Best Mini Camcorder Ever!!!
This product is really worth the money! It's a little camcorder that can save up to 1 hr. of high quality videos! You no longer need to bring CDs or DVDs with you...you just need to bring this cellphone sized camcorder and you're good to go! What's more that i loved is you can transfer the videos from your Flip to the computer as easy as 123! Just plug it on the USB of your pc then copy and paste the file to your computer! The video and audio quality is great! This product is one of my best buys!!


Awesome
This is a great camera. I got mine yesterday (the black and 30 minutes model). First of all it looks really nice. It also weights very little compared to most camcorders. It's also good that it uses flash memory because it is very reliable and sturdy. It's very simple to use and it has stunning video quality for such a small camera. The video looks better on a tv or computer screen than my $350 Sony HC-48. It is also mac compatible and downloads easily into imove or final cut express. It is also very easy to download videos onto a pc with the flip.

Great camera for the money
Very easy to operate and you can use it right out of the box because it operates on AA batteries (included). I was concerned that there was no light on the camera, but I've found the camera adapts well to a variety of light conditions. Overall, the picture quality is surprisingly good for a camera of this price. I only gave it four stars because I'd like the option of increasing the storage capacity.


wonderful design , easy to use
Received Flip Ultra 60 (white) this afternoon, opened the very well designed box, inserted batteries, connected to PC to download firmware update . How easy it was amazed my fellow workers. I work at a TV production company and must use several pro camcorders ,heavy, cumbersome and not user friendly. We had a blast viewing our Flip videos both on TV and PC and Mac computers. I am very pleased with this little marvel and glad that I did extensive research before ordering. I highly recommend installing the firmware before using the Flip. Five well deserved stars !


decent for what I use it for
This camera is good for, which I it - the simple use for, on mine blog and you to communicate video, hose. The software is simple to use (the work largely on my Mac with the newest OS). The only thing, which I do not like approximately it, is that it does not waive clay/tone very well. Those is a disappointment. The loudspeaker is on the back of the camera, but should on the front side be supposed. Differently than that I like it. To use is small and simple.


Fun to use
This is much better, those fun moments than to take prisoner sluggishly from the old video camera. My married man may never take screen, but it had really something fun with this, so possibly we'l end above with more overall length of our kids!


Not ready for prime time
First impression was that to use very nice and was super+simply. I shot some short videos and enjoyed replaying her on the very sharp screen. The Playbackvolumen was strictly limited. I do not see why, if my cellphone such a loud speakerphone, which can, should have have light impact, more largely and more heavily than my cellphone, such a weak volume. The problem began, when I tried to attach to my computer. This should be smoothly and siumple, but my fair case of the light impact when trying to attach its software. I stepped into contact with customer service and her sent me a long-winded procedure for the deletion and the again install for a newer version of her software back. I arrived not on around after these instructions, but I would send a having back these volumes so early in the play with a product to go through, which trompetete its simplicity as its best quality.


Quick & easy but disappointing
Wells I do not think that everyone should strike over this video camera "easily". Those of the light impact energies has ultra to fast, a simple software installation and use and is comfortable in size/functionality..., but that is it. This camera disappoints soon savvy person that even most moderate camera or the computer. First away, the dissolution 640x480, which is I the worst thing of this camera thinks. This pixel relationship translated approximately into a size on tariff the 4x3 on your computer monitor for good dissolution, smaller size on your screen and the illustration go are really good, but, how small from a picture, you do you really would like to regard your screen? Go more largely, than this size and the illustration decrease immediately to a very bad picture, i.e.: They see never a quality screen of the light impact even at a size of a standard monitor on (e.g. 17 tariff or more largely). Surprisingly pleased ...
The software program doesn't work right, and there was an annoying fix for the problem that updated the "firmware", which didn't fix the problem, but you don't need the software to take or store the files so I haven't bothered to wait for the help desk to correct the problem. The videos are good and clear for a small kid-friendly device. Wait for the price to drop some more if you aren't in a hurry. More toy than real camcorder, but that is what I wanted so I am happy with it


Gifts for the electronically declined
I purchased the camcorder for my mother. She quite literally cannot set the vcr; nor can she program or use most electronic devices without help. She loves it. The camcorder fits right in her jean pocket so she takes it everywhere. Everything work with just one simple motion. My mom will never miss a moment of her granddaughter's firsts.

I set this individual part on my desire list as total luxury article and thought I, never receive him. I surprised also, me if the thing at all the way one would hope would work on. How could it for the price? Well I kept it and her to work perfect and I love it!!! I was in the market to improve to of from my Sony Handycam for one pricey digital recorder this year but forget him now. I do not need it, if I have the light impact. I am not a computer geek by any expansion of the fantasy, therefore I am not I into all technical Spezifikt. on this recorder, excluded to enter, to say to the situation of person the video quality am very good. I think that others settled a fine work, the technical Spezifikt. repeated! I am fair a Mamma - looking, in order to note family moments - although I mean way around a computer know. Anyway like another rezensent, took it reported to me less than 2 minutes, around this thing enterprising too received from the box at the Weihnachtstag out, when I opened it. I loaded the batteries (no loading!), on turned it, pressed.there the key to recording and boom... I was. I noted some tie-clips and held then mean breath, as it time was to be high-loaded. Well to my surprise, was some Schnaepper also. My computer recognized the device (I leave Vista OS) to run immediately, it brought the documents and opened to thumbnails! I clicked thumbnail on and a tie-clip played... straight like that. I could not believe him! Could not have been simpler!! The device has some large characteristics also. If you load it above, them explain to you, how much you have record time remaining. It has a self shutoff device after a pair of minutes however from loadings very above fast - so no missed moments! They can go also back and repeat and delete a screen right out of the recorder (without the computer). Every time you stop and employ the recorder, it manufactures a new tie-clip, which is also really nice! It is small and Leichtgewichtler - fit into a larger bag or you can the cover (with it comes), of your belt hang. My unit is pink/white, which I love! : -) It does not seem not to also seize batteries. I have a sentence AA batteries in him now (the kind, which for electronics - such a thing longer life is meant) and I over 30 minutes screen noted and some playback without problem did. Although, I not really see a battery life announcement thus, I do not know, which kind of the alarm system is there, or how much life I left in them. I also did not try to take it to a kiosk to the copy on CD nevertheless... however I other reports read, which say that some Schnaepper also is. The primary reason, which I wished a digital recorder, should divide videos with family made of city out. Thus I tried to send a video tie-clip by email but the document was the way, those is too large and all it returned, like undeliverable. However I do not think, this an expenditure with the recorder am..., which I am safe that it is the user and/or the document size! Possibly there is a way to squeeze it together but I did not confuse with trying that. Instead I high-loaded the straight document to a photo, place of assembly (used me photobucket), divide and divided her in such a way. Again perfectly worked! I think that the device is even meant, in order to divide with certain sites/providers easily, but I photobucket like. The final result is that, if you think of trying this device... they do you! They love it!

This small of equipment sits perfectly in the front bag of my Levis. It is ready for everything. I like that it recordings for thirty minutes. Great customer service at Flip
I bought a light impact ultra for my daughter. As always, of Amazon was more than request. However neither our Mac, nor our PC laptop with Windows.xp the screen would recognize reasons, which we do not understand. My D designated impact customer service and after something information was taken by it, promised, to dispatch it a new. I was sceptical, but two days later, a new camera arrived, together with a franked back getting sticker for UPS return of the original camera. This camera works. It is was too bad a problem there, but I cannot say enough about impact customer service, in order to form things quite.

J - U - N - K In a little package
Waisted a lot of my time with this thing. The files get really big on the device, 20 minute videos may be 400mb in size. The problem was that we couldn't get them off of the camera. I used 4 different PC's, two with XP and two with Vista and still had the same problems. I had to go back out and re-shoot all the videos we took because of this problem. Small files would come off but not the big ones. Perhaps if it was on a removeable disk we could have gotten them off. We set for hours and hours working with this thing. Enjoy your trip back...


Handy little cam
I bought a couple of these as a gifts for family members so I've had the chance to play with it some. It's great in that it's very simple to use. Although I'm no expert at image quality, playback looks good. Sound is decent. If you're looking for a really simple video recording device, this is about as simple as it gets. The video quality is definitely better than the video recording capabilities on my digital camera, but the zoom is pretty limited, so your viewing area is limited as well. Overall I gave it five-stars because it does well at serving it's purpose: being easily available for short, spur-of-the-moment, decent quality video recordings. I would def recommend getting the USB extension cable.


Love this camcorder but...
Bought this as a present for 13yr old. So easy to use doesn't even come with manual!! great pictures easy to use - very disappointed in the sound quality. But if that doesn't bother you, you can't go wrong for the price Great little (fits in your pocket) camcorder - you will never miss those once in a lifetime moments again. don't by case - hard to get on and off which means it will never be used. if you want a case - buy a generic one.

Great buy!
This has to be the easiest Video Cam I've ever used. It's simple to shoot and simple to download. Nothing extra is needed. It's even simple to plug into the TV and watch. I got the 30-Minute camera which is proving to provide plenty of time for day-to-day use, especially since you can immediately view what you shoot and delete the things you don't want to keep. I wish now that I'd gotten the 60-Minute camera, though, which would be more useful for vacation or family reunions.... places where you'll use more and have less opportunity to download. The only addition I'd love to see is that it be given the ability to download to a flash drive. Regardless, it's a great video cam for the price.


Great new camera for research
This is the largest small camera to add to together with my digital camera for the investigation and the documents of the family of cases. It is, thus and it is small alwyas in my purse to use to when unexpected cases take place. After I finally worked on my way by the Intros and the instructions, it is so simple. Flip Video Review
This is a great product for the money and the quality of the video. No, you can't shoot a full feature movie with it but most people want a nice picture with some zoom feature to capture their family friends, etc. It is user friendly and all you have to do is hook up the USB connection and download your files to your computer. It will connect to your TV directly as well with video cords supplied with the camera.


Use of Flip video Camcorder
I have found the Flip Camcorder to be a good item but at this point not great. I cannot get it recognized by my Dell desktop computer. It has worked well with my Dell laptop. The technical support has been very supportive and responsive but have not yet solved the problem. The unit has been returned and I've been promised that the problem would be corrected and the camcorder returned to me. The other issue is that I've been unable to upload to my computer and send as an attachment to a regular email.

I bought this for my twelve-year old son as weihnachtsgeschenk. He loves it. It and its friends, brothers and sisters have a large time lubricating film formation. They worked on a "row", which is the family star ring, which keeps dog-material it creatively thinking - they write and draw up lubricating film formation, etc. everything under opening having the fun. Only one thing, which I wish, was different-reloadable batteries. My small play mountain is lubricating film formation much, therefore we go through AA, which is faster, than I would like. This is thus simple to use and downloaden on computers. My daughter required their for their birthday.


Best in Price
I LOVE this small camera recorder. Carry really simply to use, compactly and small enough your purse or bag inside. The only amount taken off back, which I found with this camera recorder, is that it is only good for close shots. This is not the camera for shooting the school play of your kid. Largely for Christmas and birthdays.


I wished it would have worked....
I bought this product with high hopes. We are going to adopt a baby and thought it would be great to take to Kazakhstan with us to do fun videos of the baby on our blog. When I first got it, I filmed my son and we put it on you tube. It was easy. However, after that, it stopped working. It would turn on, but not let us shoot video. I changed batteries, no luck. I got an email saying it required a firmware update, but it wouldn't even update. I don't know if it was a problem with Vista, or not. I took it back-I'm sad it didn't work for us.


Good hardware - software buggy and weak....
The light impact is extremely simple to shoot screen on. Illustration quality and audio is rather good for such a small package (smaller than a typical digital camera). Where the product leaves totally down, is in the on-board often commodity. Neither my Mac nor PC could let the software without program disturbances run. I loaded the microprogram list update in addition and it was not better. If you liked to shoot simple videos and then except on your non removable disk drive assembly for drawing up by another program, you should be pleased. But you do not build on the software, which is attached on the camera - you are frustrated and disappointed. , pure digital techniques this product released all in all too early and without the correct software. I tried support, which promises, to return an email within 4 hours during their indicated hours. It not. Intended users of this product in my household were my kids. They have fun to shoot the screen but, to do everything which is with their videos constructional or creative, is impossible. Thus it sits unused.


The best!
I bought the light impact as weihnachtsgeschenk for me. I have older parents and hope to include their history in the historical project. The light impact permits me one behind the other to seize the points which are improvised, is simple to use, and ichBIN able to take it everywhere. The automatic-threading button can be problematic by the fact that you can work and work and them not yet noted. It seems to keep simpler if you switch the camera on and one minute or two wait. The stand accessory equipment is inestimable for my purposes and releases me above from the camera. Register your product for microprogram list updates. If you forget the bag, buy a universal bag for digital cameras -- to much better protection for from us, which has the light impact, around too rattern in the purse. Examine, what bags you use for protection from rains and buried yogurt!


Awesome!
After reading off (few) negative report I was over locking this acquisition a little nervous (mostly concerning expenditures for software). But, I did not have problems at all (I have Windows.xp). I do not use the software, which came with the impact screen, (I use ACDSee of soft acres to regard around videos). This small camera recorder is very simple to use and it comes with 2 "AA" batteries. I have reloadable batteries, which come into handy. The video quality is very good and it is very comfortable, because you do not need DVDs! I love this thing!


how long it takes to share the video? help!
I am not safe, if most of you use the impact program, in order to divide the screen. Taking, thus long for forming small size the screen, which by email characteristic... I used, always even 30 sec. seem a screen try the light impact video portion of the program, but it lasts to terminate it to for a long time that I cannot wait, in order at least waiting more than, 15 minutes and still does approximately complete 30% (for 30 sec. a screen is), the program completely using you, in order to divide the screen? If everyone knows faster way to the email videos, sit down please inside on here! much estimate it


Great Product for the Price
Out of the box it needed an update from their website which was fairly straight foreward.

I bought four of the 60 Min Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorders for Christmas gifts. EVERYONE loves them. The Flip software makes it easy to share your videos. Their support folks have made excellant improvements recently.

Their software allows you to Click on My Computer, and explore to the USB folder to drag & Drop the video files onto my computer where I use Windows Media Viewer. Using Windows Movie Maker, I import the clips and edit to make a single subject video taken from 4 or 5 Flip videos.

Capturing a snap-shot out of a video playback is very user friendly, and produces a very good quality jpeg image file.

Fun and easy to use
My daughter loves her Flip. She is normally shy, yet this camera is so fun to use, she has no problem expressing herself through the lens of the Flip. It is a lot of camera for the money.


Verdict is still out on this camcorder...
I became very excited over this camera recorder of the reports and of the view of the camera recorder. I have the orange/white one and think that it looks so coolly and nicely. I only received straight this at Christmas, therefore I had not investigated it that much already, but up to now, I the following to have considered: - the screen looks well, if you play the small thumbnail version by the impact often commodity. However if you store it to my documents and it plays larger in the window central player, the illustration loses a quantity of quality. It looks granular and flockig. - if I the zoom shot videotape and use, zoomed into sections of my video view flockig. not non zoomed into parts do not look, as flockig. - something is very strange over the software for light impact. If I open it and except my videos or for etc. and end draws up, it does not permit me to close the screen. I try "x" out, and it does not leave me, and I cannot find a key, say "exit." Thus I am clung there to I "control/old/DELETE" from him, which is annoying and should not be necessary. - at the moment, is the quality not as well as videocut off to my digital camera, which is 4 years old! Like that I am disappointed in. But I hope the fact that I am missing straight somewhat and will represent out, how one receives better quality. - I did not already bring nothing on dvd or to television set, therefore I hope that it looks there better. - the zoom shot is not much at all. He says that he has only one zoom shot 2x, and straight considers, as small, which is real. A quantity other camera recorders could have a zoom shot 32x or so. Thus this not very much does (and as I said, look blurry, if you use it somehow). - it is very comfortable to have a small camera recorder which you can get with you, everywhere, which you go. - the sound quality seems normally. So altogether, I am not safe, as I already feel over this. I am really hoping I explain out, how one forms her worth her. I plan to try to find an email for customer service therefore can I unite these expenditures to repair.


Love My Flip!!
I bought the Flip for three people as gifts and everyone has called to thank me several times. I also own the Flip and can't remember what it is like not to have one in my daily life. With a two year daughter, I can now catch every moment by having this tiny and user-friendly video camera with me at all times. I already owned a very expensive Panasonic DVD video camera and my Flip puts it to shame.

I hightly recommend it and Amazon has the lowest prices around for the Flip. It is flipping great!


You'll FLIP for flip
I bought two from these during my child age 12 and 17. You may shoot hose video. While a photographer was very interested I to find out how the screen really came out. To my surprise it is a marvelous small machine. Very simply comes to use and with very simple drawing up software. I will please with the quality of the screen. Worry about you, you must within a lit range, outside in the daylight work its well. The only impairment is that there is not sufficient zoom shot, therefore must you at the topic be close. I probably buy a Third for me.


I flip for Flip Video!
Love it!!!! But it's delicate and you need to make sure that it's on a stable surface when connecting the USB port. If it unhooks even just slightly...poof...you loose all your footage! :( Everything else about it is amazing and SO easy to use. You've GOT to get it!


Better than a camcorder...
I back up the claim I made in the title by saying that when our first child was born, we rushed out and bought a very fancy video camera that has resided in its fancy case for many years. It has always been too complicated to make sure it was charged, make sure the tape was qeued, make sure there was enough tape, turn it on, wait, and then hope the event wasn't over. We basically assigned it to major events like Christmas where it could rest it on a tripod and record from there. Then we discovered the Flip Video Ultra.

When I first saw it, I was sckeptical. I figured it would have crappy video, poor sound, and just basically stink due to its size and price tag. Boy, was I wrong. The next day, while at work, I called home and my wife informed me that our oldest was dancing and singing for our baby and they were laughing together. I longed to see it and knew that she could never get the camera out in time to capture it properly. I knew at that moment that we had a need for this camera. We ordered it, and I was shooting video within 5 minutes of grasping the box. Wow!

Since then, we have been shooting video. Nothing complex, but video that is anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes long. We have been uploading it to our blog...and we are not tech savy! Our blog has gone from a picture blog to a video-only blog overnight. It is amazing. The video is amazingly clear on your PC and not too shabby on your TV either (we have a 27").

I don't use the included software to edit, I instead explore the memory stick and then import that video into Windows Movie Maker. I then save it to my desktop to upload it to my blog. I am sure the software is great, I am just used to the other.

Buy this, get this as a gift, whatever...just own this device. It is truly a gift to the family.


Not Perfect but Pretty Good
I bought this camera for my 12 year old son. Our family has never had a video camera before and this one looked easy to use. It is. The quality of the sound and pictures has been good and it has been a lot of fun to be able to plug the camera into the television and view the videos on the large screen. Our problems have come when we tried to download the videos to our computer. First, the software wouldn't load properly. I read the Read Me file and found a way around that. There is no documentation that actually came with the camera itself. Next, we found that if we try to load a video that is much larger than 2.5 minutes long, we get an error message and we have to shut down the program, take the batteries out of the camera, and start over. We either have to stop the videos every few minutes or break the large videos into short segments to be able to load them. The batteries came with the camera but they do not last very long. However, regular replacement batteries do not last very long either so try lithium batteries or have a back up with you. Overall, I think it is basically a good starter video camera for my son. He's already dropped it twice and it is still working (a padded case will be our next purchase as well as the tripod).


Nifty camcorder nifty price
We saw this on Oprah's favourite things show and went right to the internet to see it. Amazon had the best price of course. When it arrived, I took it out of the box and made a "little movie" of our Christmas decorations for my Mom within three minutes. I went right to the computer, plugged the USB in and emailed to her. the sound is great, it doesn't need much light and it's ridiculously easy to use.
My only reservation is the fact that it takes AA batteries. We don't know yet how long they last. I hope we can use rechargeables. Buy this, it's worth the money. you can carry it anywhere and zippy doo... you have sixty minutes to record. Oh, you can use the included plugs to put it right on the TV. Wow. I just love technology.


Dandy little camera
I purchased this camera for a ski trip. The camera performed fine at very cold temperatures, had it in my ski coat outside pocket. So, below freezing, I was still able to pull out the camera, point and shoot at a moment's notice. Regular alkaline batteries last a lot longer than I anticipated. It takes great pictures at regular zoom, the digital zoom in gets a bit out of focus. I found it very easy to use, easy to get the movies out, and easy on the wallet. The old addage is: you get what you pay for. 1-hour of movies is very sufficient for most of my uses.


(Surprisingly) Fantastic Value and Quality
I purchased the Flip as early Christmas present for my wife.. My goal was to get something we could take videos of the kids with and have it be as easy to deal with capture/storage/burning DVDs as it is with our digital still camera. We have a Mini-DV camcorder and we've never taken the time to get the video off the camcorder, onto the laptop and onto a DVD. It's just a real pain. So, I've wanted for a long time a camcorder that would record to flash memory or HDD but 1) we already had a camcorder and 2) they were expensive. Then I saw the Flip, grabbed one and we spent the month of December, especially the holidays, recording with the intent of producing a DVD at the end of the month.

Last night I burned a DVD with our recordings using the MyDVD software that came with our laptop. Then I put it into my DVD player to watch the videos on our 50" plasma. I expected something very grainy and small. I was shocked when I was greeted with good quality video even on my 50" plasma. The resolution of the camera is 640x480 which amounts to 4:3 480p so it's like watching a SD TV show except to my eye it seemed a little bit better than SD cable but not as good as an SD movie DVD. I was shocked to tell the truth given what we'd paid for it and what I've read about the picture quality.

The Flip has more than exceeded my expectations: it did exactly what I wanted and it made it easy. I can take videos of our family, upload them to our PC through USB and then burn them to DVD to watch on TV. The quality is more than good enough for the price (like I said IMHO something between SD cable and SD DVD) but more than anything it does all the things I wanted to and I didn't have to spend several hundred dollars.

We are VERY happy with our Flip. We now have an easy way to capture our children's childhoods (at least until flash camcorders that do HD come way down in price) -- something we never had as kids. The Flip is surprisingly good and unexpectedly fun.

Some things to know:
- Don't use the zoom. It's not an optical zoom so it just makes the picture quality poor by cropping the image.
- Expect a time-consuming setup. The first time you plug it in it needs to update itself and it takes a while.
- The software is just so-so. It doesn't really come with any decent software so you'll need something like Roxio's MyDVD to edit/burn videos.
- It records to AVI files (MPEG-4) so you can use a much better viewer on your PC than the one that comes with it. I use WinAMP (free).
- You might want to think about that external 500GB USB drive now because this thing eats HDD drive space like it's nothing :-). I think our 250GB WD is going to have company soon.
- The audio is mono
- When viewing with WinAMP it said it was 640x480, 30fps video

[Update] This update doesn't change my review because it's not related to the Flip itself but more to the video format it uses. I am hoping what I went through will help other folks The video files are AVI with the video portion as XVID 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.1. When I upgraded from the Sonic MyDVD 5.5 software to the Roxio MyDVD 9.0 I could no longer view these files or burn them to a DVD. I had to upgrade to Roxio Easy Media Create 10 to get them to work again. Nothing on Roxio's site gave me any indication the upgrade would cause an issue with my files. Only throwing money at it seemed to help the problem. So, if you're using the Flip in combination with MyDVD to burn DVDs just beware it's not because you don't have the right codec or whatever installed. You apparently need MyDVD 10 or maybe even MyDVD9 Premium to view XVID video and create DVDs out of them. It makes me wish the Flip didn't record to such a wonky format but I guess with all the licensing around MPEG-4, AT&T lawsuit, etc. you get what you get as an early adopter. I flipped over Flip
Strike screen ultra row camera recorder, 60-Minutes easily (black), which is this the best equipment for the money. I liked my, as much, which I unite more for gifts had bought. Use the batteries, enclosed, updates on your computer and it are ready to go. It is so simple to take videos of the moment. I hold my light impact in my purse, are he over the size of a set of cigarettes, and he is handy during those "lives" moments, which would like to hold you. I used also the light impact for holiday meetings and the illustrations am clear and vocals, simply am to be heard. No additional expenses are necessary. The lighting adjusts area on the ambiance easily. The impact plugs directly into my computer for Download and me have a film program attached, therefore I burn the immediate dvds, in order to divide. This isnt, to the large expensive camera recorders, the zoom shot inside on the large play etc., can however for daily life replace is distinguished it. I insert an extra set AA batteries into my bag and I am good to go.


Good and bad
I like the video camera with 2 exceptions. 1. Clay/tone really does not waive the words, which say bevoelkeren, it is it very loud speaks. 2. The program, which is used, in order to form the films, freezes 9mal from 10.


Great
Stored purchase approximately $50. on line. Granddaughter loved for Christmas. It is 10 years old and used all weekend!


The Flip Video
I received the impact video camera recorder and found him simple to use from the box straight. My only objection is that the red key on the back with difficulty to be worked is, if you are ready to note to stop. I noted my 97 a yearly reciting poetry of the grandmother before the Christmas tree. The admission was beautifully, however as it terminated, took it five successes on the key, before it finally stopped the admission. This frustrated and requires drawing up, which would not have been needed, if the key first had time worked, operated I her. When I the light impact on mean computers attached, he began to downloaden at 34% with a disturbance to be only stopped the program. I closed, again-begun and again tried. It stopped at 34%. I continued to the line assistance place of assembly and discovered that I had to downloaden an update. This took one while, but it made possible to function finally to the system. I believe that the program could be more user friendly, but I was balt to even usually explain to on my. I love the light impact and him in high of degrees would recommend!


Great little product!
The light impact is very simple to use. The hardest part represented out, how one sets into the batteries. Two small objections: The illustration quality is not in the low lighting terrific, but is acceptable. Secondly the red record key can do few to operate strongly its to itself if you have large fingers. Otherwise I love this thing!
