Motorola RAZR2 V9 Phone (AT&T)
Reviews:

starsExcellent fringe area performance
We live in a weak signal area for both Verizon and AT&T. We had an old phone under Verizon that would hardly work in the house ... second floor, hanging out a window. One neighbor had a newer Samsung phone on Verizon and they could get a weak but functional signal in their house, so we went to Verizon to "re-up" a two year contract. However, we could not get them to give us a reasonable (free or low cost) upgrade to a new top of the line phone ... had to be a NEW customer to get that!

So we started looking at AT&T. Our next door neighbor had just gotten a Razr V3xx and sat in our living room with 3 bars of signal strength on the AT&T network. On Amazon, it just happened that the V3xx was available for $49 or $99 (I forget which, but on that day the RAZR2 V9 was $.01! Yes I think that was just for a day ... it is back up again to $49 when I checked today. Based upon the reviews, I went with it.

It has way more bells and whistles than we will ever use, but the good news is that in our house it usually has a FULL 5 bars in the 3G network, with 3 bars in the EDGE network being the lowest that I have noticed. Last night, my wife sat on the floor of our family room, playing with the cats, while talking for 45 minutes to her mom. Her mother ... hard of hearing ... said it was the clearest she had ever heard my wife over her phone ... and we have been using the (expensive) land line to call her for months.

Other good points ... Both my wife and I are getting up a bit in years, and the large, bright external and internal displays are wonderful just for the basic stuff ... what digit did I just push?? Who is calling? etc. I like the little "buzz" that it makes when I push a side button. It lets me know that I pushed something.

Negatives ... they are picky stuff. If you want it to look great, you can't use it. Fingers, ears, hair, etc. will make it look a greasy mess in no time flat. Time to find a clear case for it. There is one, and only one connector port. It is a little micro USB port that has a little rubber flap over it. I expect the flap to be gone very soon. The charger goes into that port, and it takes practice to line it up right. The wired connector for your computer (update phone number list, etc.) goes in there too. That is separate software, but it has a very reasonable price. I've just ordered a Bluetooth dongle for my old laptop and it should let me bypass that cable. While updating my phone numbers, I caught the cable with the desk chair arm and pulled the phone off the desk ... onto a carpet, thank goodness. For such a small phone, a wireless connection will be a much smarter way to go if it works!

Bottom line ... It looks like a phone that has features way beyond what I need. But if you are in a weak AT&T signal area and want to replace an older phone, this phone may help solve that problem! Keep an eye out on Amazon and see if the price bounces back down again. I noticed that when I ordered, the same price applied for new two year contracts AND those who were re-upping old contracts. Verizon, pay attention! You lost a 6 year customer just because you would not do the same!

Oh ... and I double checked with both AT&T and Amazon. They do honor the 30 day trial period even though I purchased the phone online. If I return it within 30 days, I do have to pay the initial connection and "time used" fees, but I would not have any other "multi hundred dollar" penalties. Those kick in AFTER the 30 days and BEFORE the contract ends.

starsA Fantastic Phone!
With all the fancy features in cell phones now, I wanted to make sure that the phone I got did what a phone should do: preform well as a phone and not just look pretty. I'm happy to say Motorola's new RAZR2 V9 does both.

First off, the this AT&T version has a unique metallic burgundy color which makes it stand out. The huge bright screen on the front helps with the "not your ordinary RAZR" look. When you open it, the screen on the inside is even brighter! I'm raving over the screens and colors because my last phone was a Motorola V551 (a good phone in its day, but very old by comparison). Having a screen that's easy on the eyes is a great thing for me. Call quality is awesome. The RAZR2 V9 is the only one with Motorola's new CrystalTalk feature. And I must say, whatever it is, its working very well. Calls on this phones sound great. And since this is a 3G phone, the MediaNET browser displays pages really fast. I haven't tried out the music player features on this, so I'm not sure how well that works.

There are a few things worth noting. The keys on this phone are very flat and can be hard to press at times. This is especially true for the buttons on the right and left sides of the phone. The buttons on my old v551 were much easier to press. I've also noticed that the battery life goes for only 3 days. I suppose it has to be expected with at 3G phone, but I was hoping for better performance on that. And, a comment on AT&T more than the phone, I've noticed that 3G service isn't always available. At times the phone connects to the Edge Network instead. There is a speed difference, but not much for what I'm doing. Streaming videos and music would probably take a bigger hit on that if 3G cuts out.

starsWAY Better Than the RAZR v3... But Not Perfect
I suffered with the RAZR v3 during years and am dedicated to me to improve just as soon as possible. And rectify with my word, the very same day I could in measurement with, I drew release on the levelling and obtained this telephone. The Amazon had the best absolute price with this telephone then and it was the deciding factor for my choice in the salesmen and nothing differently. That took almost 10 days to obtain the telephone and I had to pass by a little din to obtain it activated, but it was good in value the $ which I saved. About the telephone: the graphs are phenomenal, the size is perfect, the feeling of the telephone in my my face of hand/against is perfect and the quality of noise and call are MANNER better than its predecessor. My only resulting is with the address book. While it is also improved, the device of importation offered by the tools of telephone of Motorola always leaves to wish. The names enter better than the entries are now broods rather than 1 entry by method of contact (the old telephone had the entries of word 5 for John Smith rather than 1 John Smith with 5 manners of contacting it). On the tilted side is that the entries do not match well - there is no comma after the last name and people with 2 first names, Mary Joe, obtain truncated. On the whole, although, this telephone is fantastic and now me will be able to employ a part of more than 4.000 minutes of inversion which I acquired since I never employed my Razr old man!

starsNot everything you would want
With recovered to this telephone after a length wait/search per month and I would say that it is not in value 99 dollars. Nothing imagination about it, calls disappeared the couples white from the periods - just as in the advertisement. The external screen and the completion are good but the screen of interior could be better. Longer once compared with a version earlier of RAZR but of any thick chin. Does not come with the fate from options, identifies the chart of only up to 2 gigaoctets, quality of image is correct, the drains of battery out enough of quickly. If you are inside for a telephone of not-imagination for the daily use go to him.

starsNice phone, too many problems
I love the phone, but it has too many "technical" issues that AT&T and Motorola have not seem to find an answer for. I was unable to download any songs and videos and some games, and after calling customer support and running several dianostic tests, it failed! They sent me a new phone, and it still had the same problem!!! I am sadly getting another phone, because after 2 short months and having gone through 2 phones (which have never been droped or exposed to harsh conditions), I will be getting a PDA/Smartphone. They offer so much more... I have nothing but loved this phone but have really been getting tired of waiting for the internet to load and being unable to do and extra features, I have decided to move on. I will NOT recommend this phone to anybody!

starsBest phone I've owned
I must admit, I were little an interested party when I improved of my smartphone worthy of Treo 680. Treo made very that I wanted it with, but I did not need any more all the additional devices of smartphone thus I decided that I went "go down" to a regular telephone. The new one With

starsTwo & a half weeks and NO PHONE
I ordered this phone two and a half weeks ago and never got it. I even had to approve several delays in shipping dates (even though Amazon claims to have it in stock). Two calls to customer service have wasted both my time and who knows how many cell minutes on my current phone.

For all my efforts I get an email today saying they cancelled my original order but if I order it again I shouldn't experience the same delay. Say what$!#$?? No explanation, nothing. Don't get me wrong I truly appreciate the quick shipping that another merchant provided for my phone charger. It should make an excellent paper weight since I HAVE NO PHONE!!!

Buyers beware, I'm extremely disgusted with this purchase (or should I say attempted purchase). I was patient and gave Amazon two attempts to resolve the problem only to have them waste my time and money. I guess this is the type of customer service you can expect from a website. Me, I'm going to a real store.

starsrazr2 v9 is pretty excellent
Thus I had this telephone during a few weeks now and I do not find a true straw. My last telephone was not something to compare this with, thus I could be excessively applied, but I am impressed nevertheless. Music: with chart 2GB it can hold a good quantity of music. Not enough to keep the same songs above, although, you must turn them out of each of time to other according to how much time use you your telephone to listen to the music. And its nice that they give you the cable which goes from the microUSB to the ear-phone of 3.5mm. Oh ouais and the external buttons and the screen is impressive. Camera: the megapixel 2, but when you take the photograph you never obtain really these 2 megapixels. But, with that known as, you can take excellent clear photographs with this telephone. The only problem with the camera is that the speed of obturator is very slow, thus the images scramble easily. The calls were clear and the good reception, aucuns problems there.

starsA disappointment!
I ordered this phone after using the original RAZR V3 for more than 3 years. I expected it to be even better than the original. I used the phone for 2 weeks before deciding to return it. It is a beautiful phone, but unfortunately for me, falls short of my expectations.

Pros: Looks great; Both displays are high resolution; Thinner than the original RAZR; Silicone type covering on back helps keep the phone from sliding around on your desk; Fast internet access due to the 3G technology; Accepts up to a 2GB micro SD card.

Cons: So-so battery life (it did improve after the first few charges just as the manual states); Poor reception in areas that I never had problems with before (this might be the difference between the 3G and the older network); Heavier than the original RAZR; Even worse than the original RAZR when it comes to fingerprints/smudges; Side buttons are difficult to operate when I want to operate them to change the ringer volume (usually going from loudest to vibrate or vise-versa), but then seem too sensitive when I am holding the phone and pressing them by accident; The hinge makes a creeking noise after a few days that is noticible to people you are talking to while pressing the phone to your ear; The ringer is not as loud as the original and I found myself regularly missing calls if I had the TV or radio on even at moderate levels; The micro USB cover is plastic and probably won't last long.

Overall, I just wasn't impressed. Hopefully Motorola and AT&T will make the necessary adjustments to correct some of these issues before the phone becomes widely accepted.

Note: I didn't rate the music/video/camera/bluetooth capabilty of this phone because I didn't keep it long enough to use those features.

starsThe phone is not what you read about it
This phone does not have Talk to Me option as its been, described on the Amazon website for this product (blocked by ATT). On the outside screen you can only control music. Menu is not so rich as in generic V9. Software is fast and reliable. Sound quality is very good. Phone's surface is a magnet for your fingerprints. I am not happy because of missing Talk to Me option that would make this phone cool.

starsOver All
Pros: This phone is good looking, fast, good graphics, easy to use, good mp3 player, good camera, loud speakers, the outside screen is nice too, very good scratch resistant. I downloaded like 10 games and they start up like they did whe i got the phone, camera took sum niceeee pics, songs are loud, maddd easy to use, attractive.

Cons: none found yet, have it for 3 months

starsJust About the Best non-Smartphone you can buy.
An all around good phone with a few drawbacks.

Pros: Big 2.2" External screen
3G Network With Full HTML web browsing with mini Opera browser.
This is the only ver. of the V9 with Crystal Talk.= clear calls.
Great 2MP Camera
Great Music Player
1000 contact phone book
Stereo Bluetooth
Mobile Email (Yahoo, AIM, Windows Live, ect.)
Micro SD card slot for Pictures, Movies, Music.
Cons:
3G Network KILLS the battery fast
Can only put UP TO a 2gig Micro SD card in it.
The Phone is really heavy considering its size.
Not many Motorola Accesories yet.

starsI wish
The Amazon would give you the option to buy the telephone for $299 instead of having a contract with with

starsMuch better than 1st Generation Razr
I have had this phone for about 45 days now. The 1st one I received had a defective key pad (it was delaminating). No problem with Amazon, though and their excellent customer service. I just called them and they just sent me a new one. As soon as I got the new one, I sent the old one back. It was pretty simple/easy. The 2nd one has been great. My #1 concern with a phone is call clarity and the ability to hold/pick up a signal to make calls. All the other stuff is just frilly accessories, to me, that are a nice to have. As far as the peformance of this phone, it is far better than the 1st generation Razr, V-600 and several other moto phones I have had over the years. This phone is primarily used in the Chicago area where AT&T is a medeocre service/signal provider-at best. I have had no problems with making/receiving calls with this phone and it works the way a cell phone should - good reception and call quality (including volume level). It is much better than the previous phones I've had. Last week, I was in a very rural area (the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) that I travel to on a regular basis. This phone worked better there than any other GSM phone I have used up there. I was actually able to make / receive calls in places the old phones would not work. Battery performance seems just fine. As with all GSM phones, if the phone is struggling to find/maintain a signal, it runs the battery down much faster. If you're playing video games or using other taxing applications, it runs the battery down. No big deal, use your head and think about it. Also, the software in this phone is faster than the older Razrs. You can flip through screens and run things much faster. Camera quality is decent for a cell phone - however, don't expect any cell phone to shoot SLR quality photos. I haven't used the video or MP3 player features. Again, I don't expect much out of them because this is - after all - a cell phone. If you have reasonable expectations, and have done your homework, you will love this phone. P.S. - Two final comments - the casing on this phone is just slightly larger than the 1st generation Razr. However, it still fits in a Razr leather carrying case, etc. Also, they give you an Mini-to-Mircro USB adapter so you can use all of your old Razr accesssories with this phone.

starsGreat phone
I bought this telephone by the intermediary of a levelling to exist With

starsThis phone did not last!
I would not recommend purchasing this phone. I've had it for 45 days and the screen has periodically turned white for a few seconds, time and time again. I am also not able to charge the phone because one of the prongs came out for apparently no reason. I'm just out of luck (because this is physical damage which is not covered by warranty), according to the cell phone carrier. The phone will not work and I'm out the money that I paid for it. This is the worst experience that I have ever had with Motorola and I have owned a lot of their phones. My advice to you would be to find a better phone that will last you for more than 45 days.

starsSoooo happy!
I bought this phone through a contract extension with AT&T, and I am absolutely in love with it! My old phone was a RAZR, which I did not love at all, so I was slightly hesitant to purchase the RAZR2, but I'm so glad I did. They kept the best parts of the old model and improved everything I can think of that needed improvement. Everything about this phone is absolutely wonderful...and I am not one to normally go ga-ga over a cell phone.

starsAnother Great Moto Phone
Just got this phone a few weeks ago, and I've had plenty of time to test most of the features, and it is by far the best phone I've had in a while. I wasn't really interested in getting a flip phone again, because I do like the "candy bar" style phones, but those are getting phased out more year after year, so I had to go with it again.

My last phone was a Moto v551, and this phone is better than that one in just about all areas. The internet works much cleaner on this phone, it's easier to shop for games, tones, and wall papers. You can use it as an MP3 player, with very good sound quality on it.

The sound quality is by far the biggest improvement. Wow. I NEVER could use my old phone in my home. The calls would sound like the person is about 500 feet from me, not 5 feet, as with the RAZR2.

The larger display, and the huge front display are very noticeable, and I do enjoy being able to use a picture on the front of the phone to determine if it's someone I want to talk to at the time or not.

Games and ring tones seem to work a LOT better on the RAZR2. Downloading, installing, playing takes almost no time. I love the CV thing on this phone. Being able to watch a lot of videos (including my TNA Wrestling) on the phone at a moment's notice. Very nice.

The camera, although I'll rarely use it, is nice. High quality pictures (2.0 Megapixel). It'll never match up to a real digital camera, but it's very good nonetheless.

The ONLY flaw I can see that the phone has, is not a major one. To me, anyway. The number pad isn't as easy to just dial without looking. The 5-key has a bump on it, but that's it. I guess it's due to the whole pad being one singular piece, instead of individual buttons. It's not a big enough issue for me to grant this great phone only four stars though.

One last thing..the T9 texting on this phone is GREAT. Seems to work much better than the v551, but I believe that has more to do with the dedicated "Back" button on the phone. I love that feature. No more having to figure out how to go back..it's right there. Even for browsing.

I'm not too high on the "Mahogany" color, but I had to get a new phone, and this is the only color Cingular currently offers. I know they'll have others soon (Verizon's looks really nice) but I care less about colors, and more about functionality. In all seriousness, even if the only color they had was pink, purple, or rainbow, I'd still take it. This phone is THAT good, that you care less about how manly you look carrying it around, and moreso about all the neat things it has to offer.

starsVery solid, stylish, next-gen phone
For - luminous and beautiful internal posting - probably the largest external screen never with a telephone of cells - the excellent 2MP camera -3G - rather robust player of music - the good counters quality of call - flat block of keys takes much to obtain used - certain options and functions are badly marked or buried under menus - does not bring really anything new in terms devices and does not miss even the few basic ones - for several hundreds of dollars you would think that Motorola could throw in a chart of memory or a cable mini-minis-usb. Lower result: Not the best telephone with regard to the functionality, but if you want just that a beautiful telephone makes calls and reviews the sequence then it is not well better than Razr2. And this comes somebody who hated original Razr.

starsRAZR2 9 Not Identical Across Carriers.
It is obvious initially (and neither Motorola nor the carriers does not make it easy to appear outside) but offers of carrier RAZR2 9 are not identical except the services and the insurance of the carrier. The version of CDMA (9m) carried by Verizon and Sprint has A-GPS for navigation, but is differently stripped downwards, less-able model that V9-Mahogony carried close To

starsBest. Cell Phone. Ever.
I just purchased this phone a week ago and I have been nothing but impressed. What some of the website reviews are missing is the fact you can access the music player and camera while the flip is closed. The touch screen buttons on the external screen work great. It is also nice that the external screen can be locked so nothing is pressed accidentally.

Phone quality is excellent. I did not experience any echoing or static while on calls. Picture and music quality is also great. This phone really can double as a music player. I have never listened to a phone with such great music quality. Even Sony Ericsson's Walkman line can't touch it.

Another thing no review tells you is the fact the phone comes with a mini USB adapter so you can use the original RAZR accessories. It also comes packaged with a 3.5mm headset adapter so you can use regular headphones with the phones. Both adapters work great with no hiccups.

It is also nice that you can use the phone as an external storage device granted you have a microSD card inserted and a USB cable that can connect the computer from the phone. Because of this feature, I have been able to create my own ringtones and put them on the phone. To transfer data to the phone, no other applications are required. Just drag and drop through Windows Explorer.

Overall, this a cell phone packing every feature I would need. The only quip I have the phone is the fact that the outside smudges easily (though it can be wiped clean just as easily). Also, it would be nice to activate the speaker phone before making phone calls (like you can with Verizon phones). Other than that, this is a great phone purchase, though the asking price of $299 ($179 on Amazon.com) with a 2 year agreement can turn away some. But of course, the original RAZR was $500 when it made its debut.

starscool and edgy!!!
I'm very statified with this new RAZR2. Edgy as you see it on the TV ads. The external display is huge (though you wouldn't use it too much, except for reading messages or media player controller.) The touch pots on the panel is cool as well. But something you might to consider before you buying:
1, since it is fully metal body frame, it is a little heavier than the Razr V3.
2, The AT&T network sucks!!! One of my friend is using the RAZR2 from Verizon, he almost never got any call dropped. But for me, I have to say, I'm not happy with it at all. So you'd better choose your carrier carfully.

starsWorks really smooth. I love eveything about my RAZR2. Especially the haptics and crystal talk features and huge screen outside
I love everything about my RAZR2. Especially the haptics and crystal talk features and huge screen outside with touch sensitive buttons.

starsImprovements Over the Original RAZR, Read On
FIRST GLANCE AND FEELING: 1. The RAZR2 is large, luxurious metal wafer and glass which feels and led like a luxury SUV but always the thinner that the original RAZR. 2. The telephone has largest, the majority of beautiful external screen which you ever saw with a telephone of flick. The resolution is terrible. 3. They took care of débarasser chin in block in the original RAZR. The RAZR 2 does not have the heavy chin and has a stringer and the right completion with is much more elegant. Glances of unit more improved much in terms of mechanical design. 4. New technology of Haptics. Read more in the next section. 5. The speed reading is to seem much faster and of navigator large. 6. It employs the new micro port of USB which corresponds technically the mini port of USB but is thinner than that. 7. Viewing TV on external posting is fresh. The player of music can be launched well on external posting. No need to open the flick. 8. Excel qulaity healthy. Large loudspeaker for the voice, music, TV. NEW ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS: 1. External posting incorporates a virtual technology of reality called the haptics, which will make it possible the ends of the finger of the user to receive the feedback of vibration when the contact of the on-screen of the telephone is buttoned. It is a large device. 2. The applications like the camera, Sprint TV, player of music can be run directly on external posting without having to open the telephone, directly on the flick. This prevents users holding their wrists with an uncomfortable angle in order to look at the screen. 3. The Internet of speed reading is a breeze on this compound. The new navigator of Teleca includes all the bells and whistles necessary for a navigator of mobilophone. This combined with the EVDO of the Sprint (increased flow) gives to the user a very nice experiment of speed reading. 4. Excellent resolution of camera (Pixel of méga 2) and he fully to benefit from external posting. 5. The external keys also employ same haptic technology. You can feel a small feedback of vibration by tightening any of the external keys. 6. Although I would not be sure of any specific improvement of technology for the quality of call but I see that it improved much. Can be the loudspeaker is different. POINTS WITH THE NOTE: 1. Only the bench of limit of the applications can be run of the external screen. 2. The RAZR 2 has a new micro port of USB. This could require the adaptors microphone of USB. 3. Little heavier than RAZR. 4. I employ a Sprint RAZR2, thus some devices could not apply to other carriers.

starsAll Show And No Go
I couldn't be more disappointed in a flip phone. Having been a big fan of the v3, I was excited to purchase the newest and latest. Even bought the additional memory card. But the reception was the worst. My v3 was great with no cutouts. The v9 cut out all of the time. In addition, the connection speed to the browser was slower than phones two years old. And to view video over the browser was hopeless. It's very attractive and I love the back. It's very comfortable to hold and use thus the two stars instead of one. Yes, I returned it. Perhaps and hopefully Motorola will correct the mistakes in these early releases and I can try one again down the road.
