Description:
The 5100 is the smaller sibling to Navigon's flagship 7100. The 5100 has a 3.5-inch screen, while the 7100 has a 4.3-inch widescreen. The 7100 also adds bluetooth-capability for hands-free mobile phone integration, so if you want that feature, do check out the 7100. Like the 7100 however, the 5100 packs in a lot of useful features into its sleek frame. In the U.S., German-based Navigon may be the biggest name in gps you've never heard. Navigon has long been a major provider of navigation software to automotive manufacturers for in-dash gps navigation devices, but only recently did they introduce portable navigation devices under their own name. What they offer up, however, demonstrates immediately that this is a company that knows navigation inside and out. More about Navigon The Navigon 5100 offers a premium navigation experience in a sleek package. View larger. Intuitive, animated menus offer predictive text input, helping you select your destination quickly. View larger. The lane assistant provides guidance to the optimal lane for your route. View larger. The reality view guides you with photo-realistic 3D images of junctions. View larger. Lots of Features Navigon decided not to try to add multimedia features like a photo viewer or MP3 player into its devices, but instead focused on navigation-based features. The 5100 This navigation device provides you with precise turn-by-turn directions, including spoken road names via text-to-speech, but that's not all. Free Traffic for Life This is a biggie. Like the 7100, the Navigon 5100 comes with subscription-free, real-time traffic information via an integrated traffic receiver with no additional fees or setup for the life of the product. Be advised on traffic flow and incidents, as well as the best alternate routes. Subscription-free also means easy setup. The traffic info starts working as soon as you get the 5100 out of the box. Reality View and Lane Assistant These two features that are a great help in negotiating unfamiliar or complicated road systems. Lane Assistant recommends the best lane for you to be in relative to the proposed route, so you won't find yourself trying to move over three lanes when the freeway splits. Reality view guides you with photo-realistic 3D images of junctions, complete with actual sign text and exit ramp guidance. This makes translating what the navigator is telling you to what you see on the road instantaneous. Zagat Ratings and Branded Icons for POIs All of Navigon's gps navigators offer Zagat ratings and reviews for their POIs, so while this device may not get you a beer, it can tell you where to find the best one. Branded icons displayed on your map make it easier to navigate to a familiar location of your choice. Superior Software and Hardware The features and functions of the Navigon 5100 are controlled via intuitive, easy-to-use animated menus that use predictive text input to quickly and easily select your city, state and address. Maps and menus appear on its extra-large and elegant, high-contrast 3.5-inch, full-color touch-screen display. The 5100 includes a powerful Samsung 400 MHz processor, a fully integrated SiRF Star III GPS chip, 64 MBs of both RAM and ROM built in, and a rechargeable 1,200 mAh lithium ion battery that is rated for 4.5 hours of continuous use. All this is housed in an ultra-thin, sleek chrome housing that weighs only 6.3 ounces, and measures just 4.2 x 3.3 x 0.9 inches (W x H x D). The Navigon 5100 even comes pre-loaded with complete maps of the U.S. and Canada, providing you with superbly accurate, seamless door-to-door directions wherever your vehicular travels might take you. Note that the 5100 runs on the Microsoft Windows CD Net 5.0 operating system. A PC is required to use additional map data, and in such cases users require Windows 2000, ME, XP or higher, as well as a CD ROM drive and a USB port. An SD/MMC card reader is recommended as the 7100 not only uses SD cards, but also comes with a 2 GB SD card in the package. What's in the Box The Navigon 5100 preloaded with North American maps, 2 GB SD card, car charger, car mount, USB cable, CD and user manual on DVD, quick installation guide, and warranty information. Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Reviews:

starsGreat GPS for cheap
for less than $250 you receive a firm product, that are comparable with min and other higher estimated marks, which are simple characteristics to use you once to them keep you, the clay/tone used to be louder could, but OH- well, turn your CD/RADIO off. I attached already an update and it function amazing graphics am free and largely enough for farsighted peoples all in all, if you are against-striving, to spend $500 on a min do this Navigon 5100 you straight finely.

starsExcellent GPS
Good product, like the traffic information. Like the options that come with it. Takes a little while to get used to it. Recommend it highly.

starsNAVIGON 5100 GPS
Excellant product, reality opinion forms the unit largely to use at confusing highway averages. Definitely a Navigon product would buy again...

starsNavigon 5100 - solid product
Up to now I like really the new Navigon system. I was the purchase of unestablished company a little careful, yet this is a large product. The interface is simple to use and intuitively. The verge is constant, sticks to the window well and sets the device easily within the sight and the range. The way collecting main and the material life opinion are useful in the attitudes not trusted. Free traffic and structure update are useful into large cities in addition. Downward arranged one are that loudspeaker on back is and toward to the window announced, thus if that radio on its a little hard to be heard are. A large agreement cannot turn, if you really need the directions you, the radio down. Only different directed downward is that it takes a minute or two, in order to find the satellites, but I am not safe, if this is singular to this product or to Common to all government inspection departments units.

starsReturned it...Did not perform in the Philadelphia Area
I bought this item because it looked good on paper. I did not want to skimp as it was a present.

Here is how it failed.
Incident one - Even when I went 3 miles off course, in an attempt to test its ability to reroute. It tried to take me back to the original course. I was only 4 miles away from my destination if I kept going straight on my current course.

Incident 2 - Told me to turn right when the road was visible on my left. As soon as I made the turn the unit instructed me to make a u-turn accross a 4 lane high way.

Incident 3 - The directions from Willow Grove PA to Langhorne were dead wrong. They should have been take PA Turn Pike east (Toll) to Route 1 North. The unit and all of its graphics instructed me to go west bound on a toll road. When I used my sound judgment and went east, it kept trying to get me to make an illegal u-turn. At the correct exit, its directions were "Route 1 south bound, to Street Road, Street Rd to Route 1 North Bound." This will take you out of the way, when you can exit directly onto the highway north bound.

If it cannot handle major highways, it is essentially useless.

Calls to the technical support were equally disappointing. They ended in the already documented "I'll have a supervisor call you back," which never happens.

The final insult, is if you lose the SD card, the unit will not function. You cannot format another card and there was no way to get a replacement part. I called Tech Support to see what would happen, and they did not know how to replace the card. This unit is too expensive to throw away when a small part goes missing.

I have heard that the 2100 is a good unit but I am not willing to trust Navigon with my money.

starsFantastic
This salesman much helps and arrives products at customers fast, keeps customers informed shipping. Look forward of buying products of again.

starsInjoy it!
Instructions on CD,no paper instruction to take with you to help. (can't take the computer with you)cover everything but the basic to get going! took it into A sales person and learn little.Once you get it working it is Great!

starsOne of the best GPS on the market
This is a outstanding achievement government inspection department device. It is a German Design, a similar quality as BMW and a Mercedes. Very exactly and intuitively. Recently Navigon straight with a system ascending for this device came out. This software ascending improves overall system peformance and includes hibernate mode feature(save battery lives). I love that windshield craddle Design and quick the unblocking. In addition Navigon is the only government inspection department on the market with free traffic information. The loudspeaker is very loud with volume control. You can the device at the same time load and use. This device has a Bookmarkeigenschaft to cause to a new point of the interest and store it as your favourite. Before it purchase, google search for prices [...

starsNice GPS
This is a very nice government inspection department system. I surprised at something from the negative reports and Nitpicking.... the 5100 large for me up to now worked on. I have literally no objections. Something points of other reports, which I can address: Free traffic is large - it looks certainly like its useful here in Chicago. The clay/tone is a point peace - however its not too bad and really - the directions the whole time must hear you? Up to the objections over grey screen... jeez. its fine. The background, the road is grey emphasized in the yellow. Its free area. Not fantasy. But readably on a view. The verge is straight finely on my Impala 2006. POI info. is fine - others weighted about post office data and large box memory data, but, since I never use a post office outside of my, and I not normally discovery dying, in order to know, where the next Costco. I are not interested is. Show me the food, the hotels, the gas and the airports and in good.

starsbe practical. navi(gone)
This is an acceptable unit, for people, which like a little is bitten. Per: * This unit is very exact and has also good admission in most internal areas. * Way planning characteristic is large. * those at screen graphics like little Mcdonalds, the Burgerkoenig etc(fancy) and * few are lifetime traffic acceptable.... everything these are lastly however not large, but that is it. The Cons: * the idea has the most efficient nevertheless fastest way of point A to B. however takes way planning you on roads, which are you not largely because of the maximum speeds and stop indications know. * The TMC reroutes not sometimes, if it knows that it gives somewhat in front. * The icons are the way, which is there too small...., are 2 road announcement lines over the choice projection/lead, that the screen announcement like road even smaller form * I have sight 20..20, nevertheless.... vibrate the owner to even read it more with difficulty in an educated manner. * like other volumes is rather low mentioned. * Recomputation, if you missed a revolution taking longer, as my preceding MIOC310X. * The shining chrome end around the screen forms it harder to read if there is the daylight, which falls from the west, if you drive the east in reverse or. * Chrome is also against finger marks empfindlilch. * The manual switch between night and daily opinions actual a million is not automatically practical even. * The reality opinion illustration characteristic is kind of stupid.... (you would like to read, what on the smaller wobbly screen it is to regard instead of, the very large announcement indication, why everyone do that? became) * if the small articles, which lets the diagrams run, are, if you try to shift out or to shift the diagram there, are retard slowly, before the diagram in the blank characters is renewed, which are caused because of the movement. * The small articles cause also the movement of your for present position arrow for movement in a very jerky motion, which is many smoother the more inexpensive c310x. * The change of way collecting main is useless. * POIs do not show staples or Walmart... etc.. * for a price of $350.... one, at least an acceptable middle level expects government inspection departments, which lives up to, which says it that I returned it and in the morning at present, which are lucky with TOMTOM expensive 920T... GO, but much more than my MILLION and Navigon set together Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch of mobile government inspection departments NavigatorNavigon 5100 government inspection departments - which have 3.5"Note screen, text speech

starsGood Price, Great Device.
I bought this device for my wife for christmas and have been happy ever since. The unit looks nice, menus are intuitive and easy to read and the integrated lifetime traffic service is a fantastic feature. If you are looking for a device that can be everything to everyone this probably not for you (and likely no GPS unit is because it doesn't exist). However, if you are looking for a reaonably priced unit with a number of higher end features that can help you navigate your daily life a bit easier, you will not be disappointed by this device.

Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

starsNavigon is Great Unit!
Tried Tom Tom One but love my Navigon 5100. Text to speech, cool interchange signage, compact size, quick to startup and recalculation...oh, and did I mention FREE LIFETIME TRAFFIC with Zagat reviews? This unit has already saved me it's cost in recalculating my routes around traffic congestion, accidents, construction and more.

Save some money and buy the Navigon 2100 as it's virtually the same unit (less memory, I think) and you can sometimes score it for as little as $100 with Traffic upgrade. What a deal! I only bought the 5100 cause I got a smokin' deal on it from Amazon. How about $170 with free shipping, after mfg. rebate and Amazon sign up bonus? Amazing? No, Amazon.

Only con is the speaker volume's a little anemic when traveling at highway speeds but not a big deal. Otherwise, a great unit, easy to learn, program and follow. Way to go Navigon!

starsnot all there
Favour with the price

starsNavigon 5100
Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch of mobile government inspection departments Nautiker very nice government inspection department shows ways to motorway and explains themselves the road name. Traffic seems to work. The unit is to see output signal to receive a little, calm and slowly. Probably worth the money.

starsGreat Value
Up to now I had in the morning my Navigon for few over a month and a one rather pleased with him. Traffic update came surprisingly into handy, and the points of interests in addition. Some Cons, which was quite continuous also, which I read, when I investigated it, last it first little time, a government inspection department a signal as much as 2-3 minutes sometimes to waive. I had find also problems certain points of the interest, but, while I understand, an update is this year existing early to be formed and should over alot from that to care. The voice seems sometimes a little last on quiet kind compared with something by the competition. Again are these all things, which I repeat on others so no surprises read. Entirely their customer service is very content with my Navigon terrific, and ichBIN.

starsGood value
The unit works well, although the energy is clumsy key to use and I reject the support angle for the attachment it to the windshield. I bought a Navamat, which makes possible for me to remove the unit from the sight easily. The screen size is adequte and the points of the information registered is impressive. The material opinion of the exits with road indication is also impressive. Real time traffic is limited by the transmission usefulness of the station report. In the NYC Metrobereich gives it few existing stations, which transmit these information. Programming is simple, as soon as you receive the case. I did not find a function, which cannot be adjusted, which must be. They apparent thought of it all. I did not buy the unit on sales with a discount and for can the $200 production costs him strike.

starsWhat a great product!
This government inspection department is fantastisch. Accuracy is a Untertreibung. I used it even in the Sumner state belonging forest. It obviously showed trunk station roads and unmarked roads. The language instructions being very useful and straight did not say, but at "revolution right to W. Oak St" to turn etc. to the right. The announcement is that few small and key taking some, which keep too used. The POI was useful, but I would like to see more. The singular "reality opinion" stops this unit separately and free traffic the info. for the life is plus a large. After it regarded min Magellan and Mio in memory, this is obvious a large choice. Other large characteristics are the speed of alarms on the intergovernmental, its present speed, height and day/nite mode. The rail plate resists a core bang. Clock for sales on this unit and you is not disappointed.

starsNavigon 5100 great...Amazon.com a freak show!
The Navigon 5100 is a great GPS. The traffic feature is very handy as are the Zagat listings. Satellite acquisition is fast. And once you get the knack of the quirks of the 5100 it is smooth sailing.

Is the software a bit faulty and quirky? Yes. Try tapping on a Zagat listing while the mapping feature is on and nothing happens. Also, no post offices in my area seem to be listed on the thing. Hopefully Navigon will soon be putting together a software update and this will improve the product significantly. Also, do not count on the altitude readings which fluctuate wildly from minute to minute.

Two gripes. Amazon.com's listing states it comes with an AC Power Cord. Not true. The only cord it includes is a lighter jack for the car. Also, with a recently expired rebate, this product used to cost a penny under two Benjamins. Now the price is hyperinflated. Wait for it to go on sale somewhere before purchasing.

Aside from the wild prices, a good solid GPS. And buy a stylus. It makes touch screen input much easier.

starsCapable GPS as long as you're aware of its limits
After vielem studying of the characteristics under the upper number of the government inspection departments servicers, including min, Tom Tom and Magellan, I finally decided on the Navigon 5100. I used a min, if I rent cars, and during they a large POI data base to have, include them not free lifetime traffic update, like the Navigon. Since that the one of the main things of my acquisition (I live in pc. Louis, in which they closed the Interstates for two years) was, I wanted not from more moneys for a traffic service to peel. Still I believe, how I wanted to buy the many more expensive units, which could attach cell to my telephone, the etc.. I supplemented the unit with software, which permits you to add your own POI data bases of the unit and now have I machinable and more flexible somewhat quite. The Vorbetrachtung of the more difficult exchange is nice, and I may be able to begin, as she warns you a mile before your revolution to thus change you for way, early..., which those of the Garmins I does not do regularlly rent this. _ I again buy, and be with it lucky be for, which I pay.

starsGreat GPS with volume OK for passenger car
The Navigon 5100 is large entire government inspection department a unit! The interest, which I had, other reports regarding, was with the volume and signal admission. First the volume is fine for a normal passenger car. It is straight for my Ford 500 to the right (now Taraus). However you would not wish this for a Wheeler 18 or a loud truck. Secondly the signal admission is fantastisch! I set this unit, on battery, into the cup holder of my Merc great Marquises 1995, under the impact, without outdoor aerial and received large admission. I was surprised! I used it also at home in the office of my wife and am fine at the restaurants and at the admission. I live in Statesville, numerical control (not a large city). Love the traffic of alarms, which accelerate-warn, height of selections (me are a ham radio operator), and "the material this opinion" of appearance ways of the traffic stream, which I am switched on and am adjacent. The "revolution by revolution" directions and inform you are mapquest similar to total clearance time and miles, before you begin. The points the interests characteristic underlines constantly a buying and the services in the proximity in the real time and in particular (e.g. Foodlion, Hampton hotel, shopping centre and so on). The note large works on screen. I use a withdrawn ball-point pen, since I have fat fingers. In order to sum, it is a fantastische unit and I it everyone recommend it is you into a very loud enviorment to drive. I am a truck driver and use now old Magellion of my wife in my Wheeler 18 simply because of the volume factor. My wife loves the Navigon 5100 in her Ford 500.

starsgood stuff
Hey i was sceptical abaout this but for right now i really like it ;) is small but i really like it- be careful on screen easy to scratch or broken ;)

starsGood value
I have both Navigon 2100 and 5100. They have the same user interface, but 5100 runs faster and smoother. I have not figured the change lane feature of the 5100. Overall, it is a good GPS device.

starsaltitude problem

starsDon't Waste Your Time Go with a Garmin.
Pretty much the other reviews are correct. Dont BUY THIS UNIT

-Touch Interface - Doesn't work. Not very responsive. Very frustrating. Which is not a good thing while driving. I can't stress enough how frustrating this was.

-Real Time-Traffic - This is also crappy. I was in bad traffic and it would tell me that. I would hit OK to clear the screen and it would pop right back up. This happened for about 5 minutes straight.

-while using the GPS this thing had me go in circles a few times. get off an exit only to immediately get right back on. While ive heard of this happening on other GPS, i can CONFIRM it happened to me on this model.

-Antenna - This thing has a huge lengthy antenna wire that it wants you do put up on your windshield with suction cups. Garmin's have it built into the unit so theres a hell of a lot less clutter on your dashboard.

I had a near impossible time trying to look up a business. Garmin has a simple A-Z look up... but Navigon makes you narrow it down asap with zagats restaurants, etc.... for example Disneyland came up under attractions quickly but Knotts Berry farm didnt' come up at all. even though they are about 10 miles apart.

starsNavigon 511
This was a gift for my father for Christmas - it was by far its favourite gift! It took it out of the box, read (fast) the directions, switched on it, and it functioned immediately. We live in a rural area, and it fetched us even in the house. I would recommend this government inspection department to everyone.

starsa good GPS
A very good navigation product, simply, to use with free revolution by revolution directions. Traffic update are large. The only impairment is the audio is a point on the quite lateral. Would I buy it again? YES!

starsSecond Hand Review-Bought as a gift
I bought this as weihnachtsgeschenk for my wife, since she spends over half of her work week traveling, and I heard nothing however large things over this government inspection department system. Recently it is expressed, how useful the change of way and traffic were characteristics, since it read by Los Angeles, vegas travels and the norther Arizona so, to few to say this for the two from us was wonderful. The only negatives, which she expressed to me, it is that she cannot turn the unit off (only any sleep mode) physically, and the provided verge is not reliable that. The verge is not those, which is large from an interest, since you can expire easily and buy, which corresponds to your necessities to the Unter20 dollar, which is, which I had to do for them. In the end I would recommend in high of degrees these government inspection departments unit for even and loved to it one.

starsNavigon 5100 GPS
Individual part was, which was expected except the window verge. Work very well, particularly like traffic alarm characteristic. The verge is clumsy.

starsDO NOT BUY JUST YET. IT STILL NEEDS WORK...
Don't be fooled by all the recent good reviews on here. I bet you anything it is Navigon trying to save face on their product. I wanted desperately to like this unit, but in fails in one area....basic routing!! It does get it right most of the time, but the other times it will want to take you 20 minutes out of the way on one of the most basic routes you can enter in. This is completely unacceptable and I know for a fact that tons of emails have been sent to Navigon for support. They will reply that the routing issue will be fixed sometime in January with an update, but I have a feeling that they are going to charge us for the update!

I do not recommend anybody buying this unit for more than $150. Please do your research first and you will find out that many people acknowledge that there is a routing issue. Please spend your money on a unit that can do basic routing, also, make sure that the company will do free updates if.

starsNavigon 5100
A large product! It has a smaller screen than the 7100, but I knew that, as buying. The whole functions work, which is large, as announces, and there is many more simply than any different one to use, which I saw before. I constantly use it, in agricultural, suburb, and city ranges and it are road acknowledgment, phase traffic, and highway guidance are large! The Zagat points of the interest is plentifully extremely useful, and. I love it! Buy!

starsPretty Good Deal
I ordered this product and I am pretty happy with it except for the fact that the battery runs down a little faster than I thought it would, and also when I purchased it the advertisement said that it would come with a wall socket charger...but it didnt so I had to order it seperately...And it also didn't come with a paper instructional manual...you have to use a CD and look at it through your PC and that wont help you very much if you are on the road and need to know how to work it...lol....But other then that I guess I would have to say it was a pretty good deal and so far it has been working nicely.

starsNavagon GPS System
I am very much pleased with this product. It has a very good detailed diagram. I used it recently during the Christmas, which travels by rural areas to Nebraska, and which were diagrams very completely. Alos the night mode actual when driving at night and causing a sharp gloss not back into your eye very comfortably.

starsNavigon 5100 super buy
Although I could have wished the fact that I bought the 7100 for the extra characteristics says my heart that I received most bang for the dollar. This is compared a rather extraordinary device with the many other government inspection departments innovations, which I worked on also over the years. I have a check valve and a government inspection department in my laptop, but he is too annoying to drive and steer the large plant. The Navigon 5100 removes the whole enormous Popanz and takes me exactly to the place of destination, which I entered. I love it and lucky much bought I it in the morning. When deficency and in reading off other reports on Navigon, I find also that the way is not always the best, most briefly, or fastest. It seems you in a circulation over way on occassion takes to wish if simply, if you remain on the highway, or road, which is you on you, was kept faster there. However it weights not, kreischt or meckert if you fair maintenance driving. He can say makes a U idiom etc. another way, to receive which alwayss, which tries however calculated fast, her back to orignal the recommended roads. Fair maintenance, which drives the way, which you and voila, he finally represents out it. All characteristics are first category. The roads seek out smoothly and everything, which must know you, are on the screen. I like the McDonalds and castle he king symbols etc., how one could introduce oneself another restaurant, or another gas station because of the price. I like the window verge, and instead of you attach her into the center, are the verge in the side the untereren left one of my windshield verges inside, and blocked not my sight-left or quite. When said I is, this the best government inspection department, which I was also worked on for some years. For those, which do not like the menu, remember that this is not a computer a person, who sits in the other seat, which knows everything. And, for the men, HAVING IT not yet over around DIRECTIONS STOPPING AND ASKING. IT. IT.

starsGreat for the Price
This is a great unit for the price. the graphics are really clear. Lots of options, more than higher priced units. Love that it tells you the speed you are traveling. Speed limit indication is nice to have on the unit. The only downfalls I saw with the unit is a tad bit slow on the touch screen response. Not enough to make me want another unit. The second downfall is that you cannot just do a search for a place by typing in the place. You have to search by going through steps that make it a little frustrating.

stars5100 Opinion
I had the 5100 for approximately two weeks now. Tried also the 7100. After better both, which were used 5100 Serves our necessities. Both have excellent of diagrams, obviously in second place to none (and to me all marks regarded - my nut/mother has a min). Way accuracy and computation speed are close at min. On city centers the unit error can make, but all it. Reality opinion is large, pronunications is okay. Turn-indicate are really nicely - similar different marks, but add you a locking fair announcement, as the revolution arises. Very nicely. Interface seems many faster than the 7100. We did not find the necessity to bluetooth or at the larger screen. The 5100 seemed many faster. Everything, which I can represent, is it is not positive newer New edition von Software, but. What could be better? Volume could be louder and it simpify the diagram screen with fewer information would be nice (even with some elements it removed in disorder on the lower surface). While the diagrams are many nicer, have garmins the simpler to read announcement of the distance and the time which remaining are. Everything in everything a very nice unit for the price. Or other finalist was however, there noticed the min 260, gave it to my nut/mother and regarded this as us!

starsAmazing GPS
This GPS blows away the competition and the so called cheaper GPS that preted they are the real deal for $200. Navigon has almost 5+ years for features ahead of the other GPS systems. Not only does it auto track a route but does it in a split second so you do not have to wait for the signal or the satellite to show your the 'new route' when you miss a turn. City navigation is awesome with the real time graphical exits that it shows. I have used this in Boston and New York alike and blazed the streets like it was my hometown :D

starsSomeone did not understand what drivers need...
Instead of, entering into an extended report concerning the individual parts are, would like I on the expenditures to concentrate, which form this government inspection department at the aergerlichsten. As much, so that, for 2 months, afterwards having I stopped him to use it together. Goes here, not into each certain order of the disturbance: # 1), it turning on: there is a small smoothed key, which her, according to which, must hold manual, so that 6 seconds turn the government inspection department on. It is more like 10 seconds and you will forward reaches to lean, over your steering wheel to do to this. An accident, if you are parked, but, if you decide, this to turn on when driving, you, is not you inside for a material festiveness, those really dangerously is # is 2) in connection with #1 this material disturbing. The individual part is always propelled. Thus, even if you turn the car off, this baby sucks the life from your battery. Ind, it thus the quite competitive fitting top side a lack on power-save or sleep mode does # 3) is the text small SOOOOOOO. I mean as in SMALL ONE. I have 20/20 sight and for the life of me can not any of the detail on the announcement read, it is I more rueber stoop and my face right before it sets. DANGEROUSLY, if you drive. Add somewhat from the extra info. the screen and this become a joke. Notice that my car is a Honda 2007, that are civil and that swingarm are quite near the speedometer... Which hell, Navigon. # 4) traffic alarm characteristic, principal reason, why I bought this government inspection department, if a straight bang up list with slow traffic or Unfalalarmen. Is here, where it does not function straight: - there are so many alarms the fact that it becomes a gush of the announcements, if it close of a large city - which as text with a call lives message announcement. Expect as as SLOW TRAFFIC CLOSE SIBLEY, but it does not show where or, like you Sibley will strike still, if it is evenly on your way. HOW is HELL white I, if it is general, traffic on Sibley to have and how bad the alternative? Well I tried the AVOIDANCE CHOICE and landed in the heart of the traffic lights and more cars and kept accumulated completely above. Since it no traffic alarm on the detour the healing sucked worse as if gives, the listing you require the illness - the listing are you so small that you cannot read them, it are you material end lean - each time to select AVOIDANCE or JUMPING OVER. So badly, if you live in Montana, but I do not drive you around Chicago and the listing is a NEVER FINAL GUSH of slam ups and HER to ABILITY do not see that navigation is, it you away to click, the bang ups. Combine this with a small screen, that at the moved crappy verge far away lie (other # ' S) and the characteristic switches you off quite fast. It is dangerously, since you influence constant, the sound on this government inspection department instead of your car drives # 5)... OH- the sound... I mean, WHICH CLAY/TONE. The loudspeaker CANNOT be heard, if you do 65 miles per hour with your radio away, it is you a whispering peace Lexus or transport supporting fixture to have. I drive a Honda and it must suck speak in order to be, there I the lady not hear I can. This forces to read you, the small micro writing cone... ' nuf, about that is said # 6) works the verge, but those is over it. It, if nicely that you can tilt the screen etc., but it is flexible and does not force the government inspection department, in order to be VERY far away by you, if you liked to set it on the right height. Dilemma, which cannot be specified locally. Particularly, if you do not drive a Honda # 7) are the MATERIAL ANSICHT characteristic only available in, which they are complicated situations think, but does not represent, if you need it, it above sincerely. Most complicated situations have sufficient indications to lead you by opened heart surgery. I need it, if there is nothing, which explains to me, where one goes. Not worth the exaggeration # 8), it turning off. I must sit stooped over, squeezing together (or hoping I strike it), a small hidden key for, which like an eternity seems, until... switches the curse things off, it is you it in eternity on remain to wish # 9) is it completely unclear form the manual and the package, how one updates this thing on-line. I clogged it in nothing happened. Since I stopped, after 2 months to use I, you estimated it that it constitutes not much. I am back safe to my in-colored and loved min, if cases of the windshield, if it freezes exterior however me, can hear calmly her to explain to me where one goes. Locking thoughts of a racing more gadgeteer: I am surprised, if it can be used as projectile into the road rage situations. I surprise also, me whom computer game Entwerferspezifikt. government inspection department a unit leave; the Design crew a bundle is obvious treehuggers on bicycles, which did not have still the pleasure of trying the Navigonad 5100 in a material car. Blah and much verfluchen. Locking concluding remark: I leave it on a far away well-known place of assembly without a minimum price auction, but notice that you was warned, if you decide to offer.

starsVery nice little device
Had this for 2 days. Works very well. It shows POIs that I did not even know in my area. The functions are much better than the GPS I had in my car. USB does charge the 5100. The handle is weird but does it job well. Nothing comes loose. The looks and feels of the 5100 are definitely of German quality. So far I have entered 5 locations and the 5100 finds them all. The Traffic warning has saved me time on one occasion where there was a sig-alert on Freeway 10.

The price/features of the 5100(when on sale on Amazon) is unbeatable.

I would strongly recommend the 5100.

starsGreat GPS for the money
I bought the Navigon 5100 on black Friday and it a number of times used. My preceding government inspection department was a Mio310x and I a min C330 a number of times used, if I rented carriers. For the money the Navigon has the best unit the hands which were down, which I used. Is always difficult for long time users another government inspection department of unit to keep used to a new device; however the Navigon was very simple to rise and going. The Navigon 5100 has a quantity large characteristics, which form it a large value. The real time traffic of alarms (no subscription required) elections of the transfer around the expenditure or ignoring them are useful in the metropolitan ranges and make available. The unit lets users particularly make, like one alarms receives (e.g. all, only, etc. upshift). The reality opinion characteristic is really nice also with the travel on Hauptinterstates. It shows briefly a realistic opinion of the exchange and obviously marks, which way should to remain you inside and avoid which. Styling of the unit is much clean and European. I like the windshield verge, while she may attach her, so that she can be completely hidden by the government inspection departments unit. I have some vibrations however considered as soon as the government inspection department, if you drive over impacts, etc. am on attached. It would be nice, if the complete supporting piece attached less tolerance/movement permitted and ' firmer ' to government inspection department the unit. Also I read other reports suggesting that the government inspection department not with are used up-loaded - I did not have problems, the way. The writing cones seem a point, which is small on the device; however the dissolution is very good and I may the smaller size of more information about the screen fit one behind the other. The menu system and the user interface are very good and intuitive. The device exceeds on sets up and steering releases easily. POIs are obviously marked along the way and actual trade marks in many cases to supply. For POIs vacation look one in relation to other devices to be wished point. The resetting is chosen too first a POI category and to then filter within this category. I have it more simply, within all categories, to write straight begin found and the system of results for you filter left, while you write. I did not have expenditures with strange choice of route, which other users in the reports off already marked. I preceded and several the XML documents (it was really simple), on the system with the suggestions to update found on: [... ] All in all, I give high markings for its Design, functionality, speed and characteristic sentence to this unit. For $[...], I am not safe, as you to do somehow could improve.

starsBought one on Saturday & returned it on Monday

Returned it to the store today.

starsTeutonic Revenge
No hand government inspection departments unit is perfect. At least I am not able ge$$$WESEN to find in. But my Navigon 5100 (some Navigon 2100t replaced), is not fair strange, it is dangerous. Do they wish an example? 1) go to Google Maps/Directions 2) registering at the beginning of address=4100 Northgate Blvd., Sacramento, approx. 3) enter end of address=1600 Expo avenue, Sacramento, approx. 4) mash "receive directions." This is, like Mr. Google you from the Frys electronics in Sacramento, Caleefornia drive would let to Costco into same castle. They do not need to do first itself-turn specified. Frys park lot has a light. How does the Navigon explain 5100 to you to do the same journey? I save you gory the details, but you see that a quantity notice signatoryly (thus one increases you, becomes knowledge local groups of "tags") -- are that the wrong way up a one-way road shifts you -- explained, in order two roads with wrong names rather remarkably switching on -- you are forced those, in order to turn to a road on, on their are not registered turn-rev up list (its high point a house with sees to a yard, which more waste contains in it than city dump -- really -- see it on Google map) -- and if you rediscover your way, you is asked, an idiom of 540 degree of "S over four ways of traffic to make this is the alleged "optimal" choice of route. It is fun for the complete family! If this a located event were, I would think this of holding for the maintenance purposes, but it is not. Do not receive to me injustice, it have its good points. E.G. free lifetime traffic and the weather, which announced the other night that there was "mud" on intergovernmental exterior 80 of Roseville, approx.. A fast volatile view at the outside temperature of 52 degrees leads us to believe that someone visited 7-11 and and the flavour of their Slurpee unpleasantly found, in something waste engaged itself. It is quite an attractive unit and the space ages Retro windshield handle fits o.k. on the impact of my Prius. But to buy in the consideration I him necessarily, a min mobile 20 from Amazon to over with my PDA to use believed, so that I can keep real, where I would like to be in the one-piece dress, no matter how well it looks, the Navigon Navi gone.

starsTotally not worth it.
I have found other, far less expensive, superior units than this one.

The good:
1) Sensitive, accurate positioning.
2) Attractive design (if a bit bulky...)
3) Zagat ratings (when you can get to them) are fun and occasionally usesul.
4) Easy switch between 2d and 3d maps and easy switch from day to night modes.

The Bad.
1) Long acquisition time from cold start (~5 minutes). From a stand-by start, it's <2minutes.
2) If there is a way to upgrade the maps or download foreign maps, it's not obvious to me.
3) Car mount is REALLY long and just is rotten for short-windshield cars like a Jeep.

The Ugly.
The software on this thing is ATROCIOUS. The on-screen buttons are too small. Too much information is crammed onto the screen. It can't pronounce any of the streets (it gets "2 Ave." wrong, for crying out loud!). It's too quiet to be heard. The zoom factor is based on speed, rather than on whether there is an upcoming turn. The coloring in the map is grey-on-grey. And that's just to start. Want those famed Zagat ratings? To get them you have to select a region and then do a POI search around it. You can't just tap a POI's icon on the map and get the Zagat rating. You can get its address and phone number that way, sure, but you can't get the Zagat rating. And the "real view" is a ridiculous distraction from driving. It doesn't help you navigate complex intersections at all. I go through complicated junctions all the time and the thing gets ahead of and behind itself. I've learned to ignore it.

The Infuriating.
I bought this thing to help me avoid traffic jams. Navigon advertises free lifetime traffic management service. Well let's discuss getting what you paid for: The unit has displayed precisely 0% of the traffic jams that I've been caught in. In fact, because I frequently see traffic jams in the opposite direction on the freeway, it turns out I've never seen the unit display one of those, either. And then there's the fact that exactly 0% of the displayed/predicted traffic jams I see listed actually exist when I get there. So it's completely useless. And I live in New York City and drive into the Bronx most days. I need traffic management service.

In summary, I simply cannot recommend this unit to anyone. The features are available on a Magellan unit for a lot less money and with a FAR superior interface. Navigon really needs to work on its software before it will be a serious contender in the GPS market.

starsDo not buy this GPS! Not ready for Prime Time.
Which for piece teutonic Troedel - polite its. And the customer Nichtservice is even more badly than the product. When I designated the customer service, their suggestion should turn the unit off on and. When that did not work, knowledge said nothing customer service representative that a supervisor would designate me back within one week. Hellloooo! Do you designate me back in one week? Not acceptably, not at all. A signal could never receive, and tomorrow I take it back to the retailer. I would suggest the fact that her all Navigon of products if only because of the total lack of customer service avoids. I uying a min tomorrow.

starsBetween better and worser than a Garmin Nuvi
Comparing to a Garmin Nuvi (Mine's 660 and their latests are 750 to 770):
* Navigon comes with a cleaner graphical interface than Nuvi.
* Response time on entering addresses goes to Nuvi. There is a five second delay on the Navigon.
* Nuvi takes the shorter way for me avoiding highways and interstates, Navigon recommends me taking one constantly including making U-Turns to go on it which takes longer. When already on my old way, it takes three UTurn passes two keep it on my old course.
* Navigon needs a TMC antenna to get the traffic data while Nuvi has one in it's cigarette lighter.
* Navigon doesn't have MSN Data Service for gasoline prices and other cooler features. Nor XM Traffic Service.
* The keyboard is smaller than Nuvi. Buy a Stylus unless you have a PDA and have one. The buttons are smaller than Nuvi.
* Navigon lets you turn on lots of features Nuvi avoids showing you on the same screen such as:
** MPH
** Altitude (Not necessary if your car doesn't fly)
** Speed Warnings (Doesn't show unless your city is a Metro oddly)
** Turn Directions shows your turn configuration
* Day/Night isn't automatic as Nuvi is. You have to touch the viewscreen to change day and night.
* Zagat isn't up to date with minor cities and missing POIs you may actually be interested in. Zagat doesn't have any software downloads for it either.
* No software updates? What if they screwed something up and needs to be fixed?

starsVery satisfied
I did a quantity of research, before I bought Navigon. It was a new product and I regarded the characteristics of the product and decided to buy it although it would have been ' safer ' to buy a Tomtom or a min. I used it to much in the last month into more than 2-3 cities and was very much fulfilled. Some fast notes - pluses: 1. Large user interface 2. Reality opinion is super! 3. By the way some rezensenten said that them cannot take you to an average. It! They must read the manual - it is really very simple. 4. The windshield verge is very German very steady -. 5. Attaches at the satellites very very fast. IchBIN not in the situation to understand why some people wrote that it takes very long. I have it never more to have taken than one minute and to have actually heard seen min a customer to weight that it lasts a long time for it on its min. Minus: 1. Since have much, the voice can be 2 more louder said. The note screen keys are small, but they are not too bad. 3. Traffic information are mostly exact, but it was wrong sometimes. 4. Pairs of times, which it hung straight to me and I had to again load it ' '. I hope that this is very rare (it can be, because it Windows CERIUM core!! to run leaves). Entirely, a large government inspection department!

starsSmart device but you will regret
A. The system places automatically, NOT after switching away from the car (no energy into the Cig.feuerzeugbucht). This is a MAIN DESIGN PROBLEM. Possibly one can forget and let the system discharge out. B. The system does not work, if it is loaded at the same time (in the car). It takes at least 3 hours, in order to again-load the internal battery. Again a MAIN DESIGN PROBLEM. C. The aufladenlight(orange or the green) cannot be seen and formed during at night day(only) more with difficulty to seek out the internal status(charging or not loading battery). As summary: however you regret very intelligent device, if you buy it, like I.

starsBetter than Garmin, Tom Tom or Magellan
I drive much on southern California motorways and I really need a good TPS unit and traffic service. I used government inspection department devices of min, Tom Tom and am Magellan and the final result that the Navigon 5100 works better. I kept FREE traffic placing of report belonged to the order tired for the life from paying $144 per the year for traffic of report and over the Navigon 5100, therefore I bought. My large objection is that I should have rather bought a Navigon, because not only free traffic report (saving $144 per year) is, but, the unit is far simpler to use and more exactly. The Navigon is many simpler to use and gives far more exact directions to your place of destination. It lets read you to revolution by revolution directions and considers even present traffic conditions, if it represents, which way, to arrive at you to your place of destination fastest. Some rezensenten said that the volume is not loud enough. Either this was an old problem (that regulated is), or these people needs new hearing aids. My Navigon 5100 is that much, loud, to hear to the directions straight fine drive at with the motorway speeds on which are even with the radio. The Navigon lets you even decide, another way to be taken as if you see the fact that a traffic problem, before it is on traffic report service and it automatically from that, which represents you another way goes and you to readdress. It is not perfect, but it reliably is better than the competitors. My only objection is that the Navigon gives you 3 elections for delivery roads (you grant, avoid you and forbid you). While this far better than min works on, Tom Tom or Magellan, I would prefer it to let elections permit such as delivery road only if her more than 5 minutes store, 10 minutes, etc..

starsJust looks good ...thats all
The only good thing about this unit is that it looks good.

Here are the problems.

- Speaker volume:
Extremely low quality speakers are used in this unit. i bought this unit because of voice guidance and text to speech and completely disappointed on what i got. Its very hard to hear the speaker while you are on the road driving. the speaker volume is so low (even at the highest point)that you will not be able to hear it correctly while driving. The volume amplification doesn't even increase the volume. i called the Navigon on this issue and they dont want to listen about this issue. They don't want to accept that there is a problem in this unit even though they know about it very well.

- The Directions.
The directions are good overall but some time if you are on the highway, the unit thinks that you are on the side road and starts telling you to turn left, right or even take U turn while you are on the highway. i hope this issue will at least be resolved in the upcoming map updates at least.

- My Suggestion:

After paying about 3 time of the cost of similar units with basic functionalities, my expectations were that this unit will be great. That didn't happen and the speaker issue and response from the Navigon completely disappointed me. if you want to buy this unit, make sure you are happy with its volume, you can only tell the speaker problem while driving on highway with a engine noise.

starsvery reliable product
this is a good product it is very accurate. unless you live around a major us city or travel through one you dont really need it for the free traffic updates seeing that it only gives you information around the large citys other than that it is a very relaiable product

starsGreat looks but that's all
After I tried the product, I return it and receive a TomTom or a min. The interface is not tried clear and it continously to find to roads only in your city after you finally receive it, in order the place of destination, which you would like to take then it you around any strange way, do not wish not the best to recognize. I am sure the fact that there are ways around her, but, if I must spend more time, those tried, the unit Verschrobenheiten as to learn a diagram reading I, back to the diagram receive they I government inspection department units to a large extent forwards used (had one that min PDA units except, which I use in the renting cars and this the only unit was, which took it me over 15 minutes straight, in order to try to find in order to enter the place of destination, around the way.) The two stars are main because of the view, which is very smooth. I am sure that he is however not in the conditions large in Europe. Stick to min or to TomTom.

starsA near miss, but upgrades could still save it.
I purchased the Navigon 5100 mainly because it boasted traffic updates. Unfortunately the traffic feature has not lived up to expectations, and other shortcomings have made the device a disappointment. A software upgrade however could change the outlook.

Ratings: 5 point scale.

User Interface: 1. Icons and buttons are too small to be accurately used. Too much is displayed on the screen preventing easy viewing of the map. Text is too small to easily read. Menus are confusing and cumbersome. All of this combined with a moving car creates a very frustrating experience. If a future software update were to increase button and text size, better organize menu options, and decrease clutter this could easily go from a 1 to a 5.

GPS: 5. The GPS receiver acquires quickly and displays accurately.

Maps: 3. Maps are accurate, but how they are displayed is clumsy. Navigon could learn from Google Maps for the iPhone which displays maps in a much more crisp and readable format. If a future software update were to increase the readability of the maps this score would be a 5.

Traffic Info: 2. While the unit receives traffic information free of charge but unfortunately how its displays this information is not useful. Traffic is displayed in a list which can only display 4 items at a time. In a busy city a user would have to scroll through several screens to get relevant traffic info. This is dangerous to do while a car is in motion. Also, traffic only includes interstates lacking information for other major roadways. Navigon could learn from Google traffic and its simple red, green, and yellow keyed map. If a future software update were to better display traffic info this could easily be a 5.

Directions: 4. The unit always provided functional directions, but sometimes makes questionable route choices. Re-routing if you miss a trn is fairly quick.

Routing to avoid traffic: 1. The unit has taken me miles and minutes off a freeway to return me one exit further right back into the same congestion I left. The lack of traffic info for major streets often means the unit will drop you to surface streets experiencing worse congestion than the freeway you left. The traffic avoidance logic seems more geared towards avoiding acute small backups rather than big city congestion.

Overall Performance: 2. While the GPS is fairly snappy the unit is otherwise slow with response to user input and map draws. It is unclear if this is due to software that is not optimized or a slow CPU. If this could be cleared with a software update this score would raise significantly.

Industrial Design: 4. The design is functional and attractive. The long attachment arm is a nice touch. Only compliant here is the TMS antenna which is an unsightly 4 foot cable that attaches to your windshield with suction cups. Why Why Why dident they hide this inside the "arm."

Conclusions:

Overall this device appears to be a miss with more potential than is being exploited by its current software. Will Navigon step up and update the software to match the industrial design? I certainly hope so as this several hundred dollar disappointment could easily become a winner with some polished software.

Pros: Good GPS, decent directions, attractive, good for holiday travel between cities.

Cons: Difficult to use, difficult to read information, free traffic info is not displayed in a useful manor, traffic re-routing is a gamble. Not very useful in a busy urban environment.

starsA good navigation device, but not good enough
I bought this device after comparing many units and looking at the decent Cnet online review. I tested the device for two weeks and did a side by side comparison with the Magellan 3250. While I would recommend this device for its decent navigating abilities, I give it a mediocre score for its traffic features and for its point of interest database. In terms of navigating, it fares as good as most top of the line Garmins that I have tried out. It does take awhile for the unit to recalculate if you miss a turn. Also, the unit does have wonderful graphics and is very helpful when navigating on and off of complicated highway exits...On the flip side, I purchased this unit primarily for the free traffic feature. After I did a side by side comparison of the Magellan and Navigon, I concluded that the Navigon's traffic updates are highly inaccurate. The Magellan was far better at ideintifying traffic and accidents that the Navigon did not even detect. Therefore, the free traffic subscription was useless to me....
In terms of points of interest...it seems to have all gas stations and restaurants, but was severely lacking retail stores.... Also, the graphic interface is not as user friendly as most Garmin devices or the Magellan that I compared it to....I would recommend that the company improve the interface in future models...
This item is recommended if you are only going to use for basic navigation. However, if points of interest or the "free" traffic feauture is important to you...I would suggest lookign at the Garmin units or higher end Magellan units like the 3250 or 4250..I will be returning my Navigon 5100.

starsNavigon GPS
Used locally and am satisfied so far. The real test will come in a few days when heading to Arizona. Easy to read and graphics are good.

starsA Feature Rich GPS Device
I recently purchased the Navigon 5100 GPS device after some research. I went to some retailers and tried the devices out physically as I wanted to get a good idea of the interface they provided.

First of all the Navigon is loaded with functions, this might overwhelm some, but of course remember that changing these are optional. The default settings are good enough, but it is great to have the choice and freedom to alter certain settings.

Let me first start with the things I am not too happy about, or feel could be better.

- Device periodically lags (doesn't happen often but I would like it to be more responsive during those few times)
- There were also a few times that the route had to be recalculated and it took longer than I expected
- Takes a while to display the turn by turn list (only seems to happen when you have lengthy directions e.g. those spanning multiple states)

These weaknesses really for me was not enough for me to be dissatisfied with the unit, especially with all of the positive attributes it had going for it.

Here are some of the features I love:
- Multiple Transport Settings (Car, Bicycle, Pedestrian)
- Displaying the speed limit (quite accurate too, I was amazed at how the Navigon changed the speed as I was driving past the sign)
- 3D Reality View (HUGE PLUS - it really helps, especially in metropolitan areas)
- Says the name of street in addition to distance from the turn e.g. "In 1/2 mile, turn left onto Omaha street"
- Multiple Route Settings (Fast, Optimum, Shortest, Scenic)
- Night and Day views (contrast/brightness settings can also be adjusted)
- Option to Allow, Avoid, or Forbid toll routes
- Can allow or disallow U-TURNS (great to enable if you do not like taking U Turns.)
- Free Lifetime Traffic Information - It was amazing to see these traffic information popping up, alerting you to an accident ahead or construction on your route - then prompting you to avoid, after which it will automatically reroute you around the traffic. Oh, did I mention FREE for life!!
- Smooth user interface, other GPS devices simply can't come close to how beautiful this interface and user experience is - could almost pass for an Apple product.
- Speed dependent volumne - Wow, this will increase the volume depending on how fast you are traveling. Some users may have said it automatically reverts to a lower audio setting, if you wish turn this feature off and keep it on high volume.
- Points of Interests (POIs) - So many POI, and very accurate. It may be overwhelming, but what is great about the device is that you can select what POI categories you want displayed. Initially all 31 categories are selected, I went in and cut the list in half - I really didn't care to see Car or Motorcycle Dealers in the area.
- Accuracy, it gives great directions, and also allows you to block certain roads if you prefer to take another route.
- Tells me which side of the road my destination is on (pretty helpful)

The Windshield Mount:
Something else I should mention - the Navigon comes with a windshield mount that at first I thought was extremely distasteful. I didn't know why it had to be so long. But after using it I realized that it allowed me to mount the device and have it come out closer to me, so it was easier to reach and see, and it gave me some more flexibility with where to mount it. Though it lacks the ability to tilt UP and DOWN, it does rotate and turn.

The Navigon 5100 also has a "Route Planner" which allows you to plot multiple destinations - this is great, but I think this could be improved by optimizing the route - meaning tell me where to go 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

Overall, I am more than satisfied and quite pleased with the device. I would highly recommend this as a GPS device to invest in - especially for those new to GPS and are not fixated on the interface functions of other GPS devices. This is an important point to note, if you are used to using a Garmin, then pressing the screen will bring up different options than what happens when you press the screen of the Navigon.

A friend of mine had a Garmin nĂ¼vi 350 and we actually tested both products side by side in the city. The only thing I would say that the Garmin had over the Navigon was that it allowed users to connect their phone to the device via bluetooth. Other than that the Navigon excelled in some many ways. The Navigon gave better directions from the start, whereas the Garmin had to recalculate after forcing a different route. The Navigon interface was way better, with 2D/3D options. I also loved how the address and POI entry operated, it was similar to "Google Suggest" where as I typed, matching responses would appear.

I am currently more than happy with the product, it's not perfect, but in sure comes close, with innovative features not found in other devices.

starsCan't find the Michelin Star LaToque restaurant in Napa, but other than that...
I bought this individual part because of the point of price and life time traffic of alarms at all lowering. And it looks coolly! No wall loading unit in the box such as of Amazon requirements, but its customer service representative promised to send to me. We see over this (up to now Amazon was large to employ). The Navigon 5100 has the best bang for the dollar without that whole foo foo material such as FM radio, MP3 etc., I wishes it me to arrange to show B from A to. Up to now it does that quite well. La Toque restaurant in Rutherford, Napa, California could not find and those was a disappointment. 411 fortunately and La Toques of informative Hostess arrived me on, where I wanted to go. Every other Zagat nominal restaurant in their is found POI to look above. All in the whole Navigon 5100 find cozy place under the tree for me to one.

starsNavigon 5100, not perfect, but free life time traffic make it worth its weight in gold
This is my first government inspection departments unit, but I did a quantity of research before the purchase. I live in the refreshment realm, therefore is traffic uttermost value to me, and free lifetime traffic seals the agreement to me (singularly to navigon, like niemande had a free necessary update traffic of the lifetime no subscription seems). Up to now I have the unit for one week used and here am, which I found: 1. If you act update, that with your way slam on your screen are connected above and you language request, which says "new traffic update, examine please your screen" to have and you to select can avoid either "traffic", or "you", if you avoid "traffic" select, ignore then your way are checked. But, he shows you, as the fact that slow, does not go something from the "notice and" traffic is therefore must you your best judgement on use whether or traffic the whole time not avoid. In the larger refreshment realm in the peak hour, looks traffic the diagram on this unit fear SAM. I avoid generally each possible way latches, since those retard frequently sigalerts devoted and longer. 2. This unit once takes you for a linklinkleft loop. In a range not trusted this is really annoying. I learned to regard the screen in order to see, if the emphasized way is a square, if so, I straight on going the same road to hold and fast the correct way for me checks her. 3. To represent out, the diagram does not have some the newer motorways, which is in opened, does not hold for refreshment realm, the largest problem it straight checking and attempt, around where you on are. 4. The energy key for hard restart is like 16-18 sec. for on and 8-10 sec. for away. Very much fear SAM, if you are surprised first the unit received and, why the energy key does not work. 5. I found that some from private with a gate geversehen, communities not white accommodating, this unit, where the entrance to those communities well and you could be frustrated to. 6. The POIs are interesting, lack whale commercial centre, costco, a goal, department memory, but have LOTS of food and gas places. I estimate that those are the most important thing, if you travel on the road 7. This unit counts way sometimes, if you travel very slowly - umsetzendes?GPS? sometimes after, and this starts the unit to give you another direction (revolution to the left here, to the right there) but I found that the original direction, if frequently the correct way, fair stick for original direction, the unit again check, as soon as you begins to move. Possibly it was bored fair receiving at offering that the car moves. Straight ones hope my 2 cents that them help!

starsNOT SO HOT
Bought one for my wife for Christmas. Tried to learn how to use it before I showed her. First the GPS wouldn't release from the dash holder; then on-off switch wouldn't work. Called support both times. They said that they were very busy and would get back to me to let me know what to do with item; but it's been two weeks and have heard nothing yet. Looks like I'll have to get Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigatort wife something else for Christmas.

starsHappy with Navigon 5100
I bought this unit on Sunday after black Friday of Radishack for tax $229 ($18). I am up to now very lucky with the acquisition. I used it evryday for more, than two weeks now, for 3-4 new places into Chicago suburbs drove. Up to now it functioned always large. I love text ton speech the characteristic. While it thus is, freely and nicely I look rarely on the screen. Satellite bolting device is also very fast. Rather frequently I took another way in well-known area and her check new way quite fast and well. They can do it in many different ways, as particularly make disapprove u-turn etc.. Also you can indicate the height, expect arrival time, to speed. She explains to you up, which side of the road your place of destination is. Surprisingly, although it my house on the wrong side of a small neighbourhood road idicated. It indicated all further Bestimmungsoerter correctly. I find the plan very intuitive, was in the situation to do nearly everything I must do, without advising the document. This is my first government inspection department, therefore I cannot compare. In the absolute term this is large. I white that I cannot find nothing at this price, the Tex zurede, traffic info., way support has. I think that the only negative characteristic is not so large POI. It knows small places over a quantity, where I would never go, but she does not know over a quantity large chain places, where I go frequently. It would have been nice, a better POI have, but everything has a price change, and this is not my priority.

starsIts nicer than the Magellan 4040
As a 2 month user of the Magellan 4040, I have a good comparison to the Navigon 5100. The Navigon is better executed than the Magellan and here is why.
The voice is used much better and more sparingly.
Turn prompts are delivered at a useful distance for you to take action. The routes are saner.
Its much faster in calculating routes than the 4040 and faster to recalc, a very important function.
Much easier to type in destinations than the Magellan.
Auto lookup of streets and cities is far superior.
Touch screen is very sensitive unlike the Magellan.
Navigon is cheaper than Magellan, $[...](rebate) to >$[...].
Navigon is made in USA, Magellan is China
Navigon has many more useful options than Magellan, such as speed limit warnings which you can disable or it will tell you when you are speeding.
Traffic warning, Magellan doesn't have it for free.

As for the cons,
Magellan has more POI's.
Its a 4.3 inch screen, Navigon that tiny 3.5 inch and its hard to read text, although the map is fine.
Its mount is usable either on the window or console. The Navigon can only be used on the window. Slick mount though for the Navigon.
Magellan voice is louder but diction not as clear as Navigon.
User interface on Magellan is easier to learn.
Magellan has bluetooth, Navigon doesn't.
Sometimes Navigon gave a goofy reroute on the first iteration, then within a couple seconds, it would recalc with the right way to go. In the time it took me to realize it had made a mistake, it was telling me another route that was right, so no big deal. Never had this problem with Magellan.
Magellan does update its website with patches, not sure about Navigon.

Overall, for the price, the Navigon is a great value. But if you got the coin, get the bigger screen on the 7100, its probably worth it.

starsnavigon - 5100 Save yuor Money
However it places coolness looking device before itself that their somewhere were and wanted to buy a gift or you wanted to go to a bicycle business, or you to macys shopping to go wanted I hope that you can to call and them for the address ask someone, because this government inspection department to the right does not explain thats there NO retail businesses AT ALL to you! are! _ I intend a min 330C of approximately 3 year and I to wish to improve however this old machine to be as much well thereby that it to have retail retail business and also D ability for an average search. So, if I explain to you the fact that I meet you at the cross reeling machine of Smith and 7., assumption which.....you'll... is late, because this device this characteristic lacks in addition. Look for something, which has retail businesses, averages and spell improves there through name..Do a preference and except your money machines is

starsReal Good one to go for...
Got a Navigon 5100 model. Pretty slick, in size, appearance and performance.

The directions given are very acurate and thru better routes. Tried fooling it by taking different routes, the route recalculation was done almost in no time. That was fast... Real Fast, without asking it to do it...

The two point voice alert is good one, one when you are near the turn it says that "take right / left turn in to street name in .x miles" and the second one right on the turn, which says that "turn right / left now".

The reality views in highway separations are really a good feature which stood upto its expectations.

It proved wrong on some of the things that i read in some of the reviews, like sound was not audible, brightness wasnt okay, etc. My experience with the device is wonderful and didnt find any of these problems with sound or brightness.. Infact the direction shown on the map is wonderfully color differentiated and very clear in showing the routes.

One thing that i found "true" with the other reviews, is that the points of interest doesn't bring all the retailers. Thats one thing that i feel need to be improved... Hopefully this will be updated soon thru software updates.

In all the other sections i would rate this to 5/5.

stars!!! BEWARE OF THIS PRODUCT !!!
No matter how cute this looks.

The company carries no spare parts what so ever.

So if your battery dies or your charger damages.

This item goes to the Museum.

starsClose enough to perfect given its price
Having just purchased this for less than $300, and looking forward to a $50 rebate, the net cost of less than $250 makes this hands down the best value on the GPS market today. Though not flawless, the 5100 has more high end features than any other GPS in its price range.

Best features:

1) Text to speech (it can read street names) - not as smooth as the feature's execution by Garmin, but I couldn't find another GPS at $250 with the feature.
2) Free traffic reporting - has already saved me time driving around NYC.
3) Reality view - not real-life, but enough to make complex interchanges easier to navigate.

The satellite acquisition times are reasonable (under 3 minutes), and the volume plenty loud. Routing is handled well, and reroutes are quick and smooth.

Overall, I'd buy this again.

starsgreat unit overall
excellent unit for my use. takes a day to get used to, set it up and just click show map and drive around, THen set home and click take me home then start playing with getting directions. Keeps the learning curve very easy

PRO's
Comes with traffic activated
Has a better mount than the 2100
comes with a USB charging cable for the road
comes with a carrying bag.
Better Case

CONS
for less money and sometimes rebate offers the 2100 comes with free traffic
Does not offer alot more than the 2100 for the extra money
they need work on the website for all the units- the registration process keeps taking me to the wrong page

starsWould recommend
I read a few reviews on here and the one major problem that scared me was the speaker volume issue. Then I read a cnet review (done by professionals) and they said it was clear and loud. Well, I ordered one and I can hear the lady speak while I am driving on the highway, have my music on (not really loud, level 8) and have my defroster going (it is cold now). I can still hear her just fine with all that noise.

Pros:
-Interface easy to use and quick (mapped 440 mile trip in about 12-15 seconds and was the route i usually take)
-Re-route quick (if you go off your route)
-Window mount sturdy. Wish it could swivel b/c my unit sits slanted due to my windshield.
-Slick looking device
-Fast satellite acquisition

Cons:
-If you drive off route it won't tell you the next turn until you are at least .1 miles from it. I find that is about average but have had some Garmin devices say "recalculating route" follwed by "turn at xxx in xxx."

Biggest Con:
-Have to hold power button down for 16 seconds for unit to turn on and 8 seconds to hard off. What Navigon does not put in the user manual (nor did tech support know) was there is a standby mode. It should take 6 seconds to go on (mine is 16 no clue why) and then if you simply click the power button the screen goes off. That is some form of stand by mode. The next time you press the power button the unit comes back to life fast. To hard power off hold power button for 8 seconds and it goes completely off. I would love to see if anyone else has this issue.

I wouldn't put this as a con, you do have to tap the screen for more than a hot millisecond for it to register. Some people said they were having troubles. Well if you press really lightly really fast it wont register. If you press hard and fast, it will. I think some people are just being too light with their touch.

That cnet review I mentioned above said their unit took 10 minutes to find a satellite signal. From hard power off mine takes about 1 minute or less. From soft power standby it takes maybe 20-30 seconds if that.

If I remember I will come back after a month and post up my continued review. Right now I am very happy with the device.

starsBEAUTIFUL GPS with real time views as well as bright display.
I love really Navigon 5100 government inspection departments much. It helps me with the ramp support......... and alot the characteristics. I had experience with alot other companies I like really these............. Star 5 to Navigon 5100....... Of George (NY)

starsCredible value
Out of the box traffic is great and "reality" feature is new to me and good as is lane information approaching intersections. I returned a low end Garmin to get the additional features and am pleased I did for the price difference. The use of color (too much grey, grey, grey) is frankly a bit disappointing vs competitors but the screen is easy to read and directions based on a month of use are accurate. Amount of on board data - street names, POI etc is good. Not a buy/ no buy criterion but windshield mount is easy to use and stylish in comparion with others. Would not trade it (yet).

starsI Know What I'm Talking About
I read some other reviews on this unit I wasn't sure if the people who knew what they were talking about liked it or disliked it.
I know what I'm talking about, and I don't like it.

I'll start with my "qualifications." I have had experience with 5 brands in the last 6 years (Navman, Delphi, Garmin, Magellan and Mio). So I think I know what I'm talking about and I do know what I am looking for/like and dislike.

I bought the 5100 at Staples for $300. I purchased it for the traffic and text to speech.

I used it for 5 days in both the suburbs and city (NYC).

Physical Design: C
To start things off the power cord plugs in the bottom of the unit, I feel they should plug in the side. The mount is rather awkward. Every bump in the road made the whole unit bounce and shake.
The display is cluttered. Most things like speed and altitude can be turned off. However everything on the screen is difficult to read. I'm 31 and have good eyesight (I don't wear glasses). I found the display hard to read, especially the speed and distance to destination.

Navigation: C
I read someone's review saying it likes to use "U-turns." That's a big YES. It wanted me to turn around on 11th street in Manhattan.
The routing makes no sense most of the time. However the rerouting is quick when you miss a turn.
Programming the unit was ok. I had no issues there.

Notes:
-The unit crashed the first time I used it. I was on the highway and when it restarted my destination needed to be reset. I found that if you turn it off it does not hold the destination.
-The speaker SUCKS. It is not loud or clear enough with the windows up and the radio off. So it was awful with the windows cracked.
-For me the GPS connected in about 1-2 minutes. On other units it seems to take longer if you are moving, that was not an issue with this unit. I found the accuracy of this GPS to be close, maybe 30-40 feet, but I have experienced much, much better with other units.
-The POI's seem to be up to date and are displayed nicely on the map.
-The Reality View is a nice touch for the more confusing exits in Manhattan and New Jersey. Its one of the few things I liked.
-The free traffic works. I found the external antenna is unnecessary for my area. I never actually needed to be rerouted due to traffic. You can set what FM channel you pick the traffic up from. You can also see what song the station is playing at the time. I am not keeping it and do not recommend it unless you have a bionic ear and never play on driving with your windows down.

Speaker: F
Mount: D

starsA good value
Living in SoCal traffic is a way of life, so I was looking for a GPS unit with TMC. My old GPS had the connections but, it isn't sold in the US, so I decided to upgrade. So I'll list my pros and cons (other then what is stated by Amazon or Navigon), so naturally the cons list will be longer.

Pros:
The screen is very responsive. Scrolling the map and button pressing only need a light touch.
For me the initial GPS lock was slow, but later GPS fixes were much quicker.

Cons:
The major concern is the processor is a bit on the sluggish side. I can see the refresh when map scrolling and re-routing can take some time.
The text prompts are fairly tiny, but the text to voice feature makes this a small issue.
The routes sometimes isn't the shortest route or routes I would normally take.
Day/Night mode isn't automatic, not by time, nor does it have a photo sensor.
Some screens just has too much going on so press the right button has a learning curve.
Navigon's selections for POI are odd.

starsaverage
I bought this government inspection department, after so nicely those, the screen looks reports, which I saw on different web site, largely I white not, if my government inspection departments were defective. it did not function well it lasted time to receive the satellites and, to also receive began the battery keeps never loaded to maximum exit, to set up was a bare night. it is thus difficult, to find something is to wish you the way also which is taken by the government inspection departments, too long as, which it I examined the straight way am, which I could do and it rounds me and got himself to the same place took my friend has a min nuvi 350 and it was very well I had straight this product today because of the reasons specified above returned, which are very slow the processor also the unit of views, which are good, but the result on min is nuvi 350 I is good planning to buy to from of min to as soon as I mean rueckerstattung of navigon government inspection departments receive.

starsTraffic service in the GTA makes it worth the price
The major selling point was the traffic service at no additional cost. This compares to all of the other GPS manufacturers which charge at least US$60 per year. The other big surprise (according to their customer service) is that map updates will also be free. An update is due in January 2008 so that is eagerly anticipated. They also offer Zagat ratings of hotels and restaurants also at no extra cost.

The navigation features are similar to those available on higher end Garmin units such as "text to speech", small form factor (Garmin Nuvi size without the flip out antenna) and Sirf Star 3 GPS chip. Other notable features are the "photo realistic junction views", "lane assistant" and automatic speed warnings.

The quality of the traffic service has been the focus of our testing. So far although it has not been completely fault free, the service in the Greater Toronto Area has been surprisingly good even compared to Garmin's service. Both companies use the Clear Channel "Total Traffic Network" but Garmin has had issues with some of their models (any model using the GTM 20 antenna).

starsBetter than Garmin and the rest
I had an old magellan so, i needed a new gps unit. I did an extensive research on all the units and were still undecided so, i decided to buy a garmin 350 nuvii and the garmin 5100 both for smiliar price.

The garmin is good very fast when calculating the routs but, its too simple 4 my liking . The drawings look unprofessional like a kids drawing. But, if u just wanna go to ur destination its the best gps but, if u want features like my self Garmin allllllllll the way. Great interface, superior software by farrrrrrrrrrrrrr. pretty accurate and stylish, but my onlyyyyyyyyyyy problem is the volume is sooo lowwwwwwwwwww thats the main problem cuz, i like to blast my music sumtimes but, atleast u dont need to hear the voice all the time cuz it shows the nest turn.

The zagat points of interests are greatttttttttttttttt , it tells u a little about each nightlife location which is greatttt.

What finally make me pack up the garmin and finally sending it back was the turn by turn lists, u need this incase the sattelite malfunction. Navigon gives u several turns on one screen without any need to scroll whilst garmin only the next turn only sucksssssssssssssssssssss.

If u like over 50 and u hate computers buy the garmin cuz its very simple but, if ur young and like features navigon 4 yahhhhhhhhhh

starsdamn
right out of the box it wouldnt work. i keep calling to get it fixed but the navigon company keeps leading me in circles, and from the looks of it the problem will never be dealt with. from what i see i say stay away from this product cuz its to much money to spend on what wont even work..

starsBest for the price: update
Update of my original report (that down is), after 1 months use into 3 different cities: - I estimate traffic the info. real. I thought that it was a trick, but it stored me twice of the main supports (well except: if you exchange had struck a transfer, the government inspection departments explained from it, implemented me at the exit right before the accident to me and returned me to the motorway straight behind the accident. I became! impressed). I use it the whole time. Examine for the Navigon web site, in order to see, if your city is covered -- most are. - I also like really the Zagat evaluations. Into new cities I look for close for my hotel zagat nominal restaurants, night lives and attraction. The full reports are contained, and I use it, whenever I travel. Very useful. - also well: Diagrams are excellent, are very exact the government inspection departments spurhaltung, text ton speech are fine, are intuitive the menu and POIs are quite complete. - some negatives: Voice should be louder, is text on the small side, and the key presses can be annoying. The web site is very fundamental last (min has a large web site). - entirely, I stand still mean original report ready. No government inspection departments is perfect, but I real like this and enjoy using it. Original report (October 2007): This is by far the best government inspection departments for the price. Everything otherwise its directly (choice of route, detour, POIs, etc.), three things are paramount for me in government inspection department: Exact diagrams, the ability, to plan ways and kind. By the way before I selected government inspection department, downloadete I and read the manuals of min 660/680/750, of Magellan 4040/4050 and from Navigon 5100/7100 (you see down, why I jumped over TomTom). 1. Exact diagrams. This is called Navteq diagrams instead of TeleAtlas diagrams. Since TomTom TeleAtlas uses, I eliminated TomTom of products; 2. Tarpaulin ways. I in the situation its must, to a flat way with a starting point differently than which I at present in the morning. Most government inspection departments units begin navigation to a place of destination of the present government inspection departments position. I must enter in the situation its, in government inspection department a place of destination AND a starting point, so that I can be on a surface, e.g., and to go in whom are, to represent out, like a drive taking, if I receive inside, which time, etc. longs itself. No Magellan of 4000 horizontally aligned products do this. This crossed out Magellan. 3. Kind. The 5100 is small and elegant, and the diagrams are beautiful. Like a kid distinguished they see min/Magellan diagrams with indication pins. I could have bought the 7100, but I wished mobility, and with the smaller screen, I explained that the processor would be also faster. Everything otherwise is, as well in the 5100 or better, than in each possible other government inspection department, plus you free traffic information and keeps you zagat. There are some small Verschrobenheiten (the keys are small, and sometimes you must work twice), but these is really small expenditures with this many characteristics at this price. And price is an interest, if for no other reason than these this industry changes so fast (over 10 new units this year placed) forwards, all this, which is you now probably, by the newer and better units to be very soon dated to buy -- so why do you spend too much? (this crosses out overpriced completely Garmins). Together has I on uses 5 different government inspection departments programs/units used, and the 5100 is at each possible price and at an agreement excellently on, which it is. NOTE: some reports noticed, how them take long for the government inspection departments for bolting device at to the satellites. I think that this is because of the incorrect instructions, which come into the box, which instruct you to hold the "on" for key so that 6 seconds switch the unit on. This really resets the unit. Everything, which you need, is to press the key once, in order to let it switch on, and satellite embarrassment is nearly very fast.

starsThey are all somewhat correct
From Navigon 5100 government inspection departments mobile automobile navigator-wave, received I to my Navigon 5100 a pair days before, in a non-so-familiar city. Was adequately, up to me exactly received, where I wanted to go, and into kind. But, the screen is a little small for THAT WHOLE material, it on it crammed. There are MANY useful characteristics, like traffic the info., reality opinion, way collecting main. The voice is only appropriate. How over nice Australian or Britsprachkerle? Need little assistance here. The loudspeaker seems, from the bottom quality and at the full volume to be only rather audibly (without noises or diversons in mine minivan). A disturbance is the volume holds, to the center, every time you close it away, and through itsself to sometimes decrease/go back... NOT well! I was surprised on, like readably the screen, with this whole material..., some things am fair not necessities am. The verge, how announces, is cool - however... the unit is the matter and it functioned good in it, if you have a close windshield, not like a jeep. Another unhip characteristic is not an automobile lock way, if you stop the car. They must turn it off (influence key some seconds) - meanwhile this loosen your place of destination - turn it then back on (influence key some seconds, again!) RH-PROGRAM place of destination could be a little, which is simpler to do with the better few keys... impairment. Entirely, it is fun and details (mostly). It keeps a point confused in the park lots. Head above the message are nice(advance warning over revolutions, etc.). The some small expenditures can up to the disturbances over time..., which low volumes and the small quality of the loudspeaker particularly add. Buy, but except your receipt for return argues.

starsKW in St. Louis...My Garmin Stinks!
..takes forever to find a signal and the windshield mount won't stay attached! So, I paid up for a Navigon (my dad has one) and so far I like it a lot. It works great with my phone (important since I'm a caterer) and the traffic feature is phenomenal. Not every map seems as accurate as it could be, but it's only done me wrong one time, and then not on a job. Overall, it's well designed and fun to look at.

starsLooks Much Better Than It Performs
I'll admit, I saw the ad and thought it looked nicer than my TomTom GO 910. And when it arrived, it did look nicer.

I really love the windshield mount. It's difficult to tell in pictures, but you can rotate the GPS unit and change the angle, and the "arm" design puts it nice and close, so you don't have to reach too far to operate it. And it's also nice that it will tell you what side of the road your destination is on (something woefully absent from many GPS models).

And that just about sums up everything I like about this unit. I was expecting MUCH more for the price, and the Navigon simply doesn't deliver.

Major Annoyances:

1) The speaker is impossible to hear, even at max volume with the windows up.

2) The interface is seriously convoluted. Tapping the screen in the map mode lets you change between day/night (which essentially means "bright or dim") and 2D/3D. If you want to change anything on your route, you have to hit a tiny back arrow, then go through a series of menus.

3) The maps are difficult to read, and you can't change the color scheme. Unlike the image in the description, you get grey roads on an off-white background in the daytime, and dark grey roads on a light grey background at night. If that's not bad enough, the view arbitrarily zooms in and out, though I can't determine why this is. It doesn't seem to be speed or distance related.

4) The interface is S-L-O-W. Once you overcome the miniscule letters you get to type with, you'll find that the OS can't keep up with anything faster than hunting and pecking. Maps are similarly slow to update while you're driving.

5) The POI system is very random. It knows about obscure drug stores and car dealerships, but not national big box retailers or auto part stores -- while at the same time, McDonald's logos pop up all over the place. The interface itself is fairly bad, too. It would be faster to pop your head out the window and ask someone where the nearest post office is, than navigating through the Navigon's labyrinth of menus.

That said, the Navigon 5100 isn't a terrible GPS. The routes tend to make sense, and the included maps appear to be very current. But for the price you'll pay, there are many better options out there. I think I'm going to stick with my 910.

EDIT: 12/10/2007 -- It is probably worth mentioning that when I originally bought this, it cost nearly twice as much as the current price (after rebate). At $250, I'd be far more accepting of the Navigon's shortcomings.

starsDon't know what the problem is in LA...
... however in Kentucky this thing works on large. Forwards I became never possessed a government inspection department, before I received this Navigon as birthday gift to some weeks, and for a chap, who has normally trouble with technology, large... very much been simple will use. I slammed it generally from the box, struck her on the verge and began to use it. The screen is largely and simple to read and it looks really coolly (the spoken road name thing is also nice). Much being I cannot not say characteristics of a chap that I received much into the finer points from, which this government inspection department can do. However explain me I fulfilled 100%.

starsNavigon 5100
I bought the Navigon 5100 because my Magellan kept freezing up. The Navigon 5100 is more compact and visually appealing with the black case. Boot-up time seems long at first, but I believe that's true of all GPS devices. The graphics are sharp and very customizable. A vertical scroll bar along the right side of menu screens would be a nice addition, but I would certainly buy this product again.

starsSaw this on Home Shopping
I saw this one on TV where they nicely explained all the features and benefits and I said "WOW" it can do all that. Well, I got one now and upgraded from my previous Pocket Loox because of all the new convenience features. I also wanted to have a bigger screen but still compact. The menus are pretty much the same and I got used to those. This one is just more advanced now. And yes it can do all that what they claim on TV. It's easy to use, got me to the places I wanted sofar without a glitch. You can get addicted to this device and I showed it to a couple of my friends already. The mount is a little big but nicely fits on my windshield and is in close reach. I'm mostly impressed by all the convenience features like telling me street names, telling me what lanes to pick on the highway. This reality view feature is extremely useful and pops up right when you need it in difficult situations and shows you real signs and arrows where to go. The traffic service is FREE. I love the design with its sleek finish. The Zagat guide that is included is helpful since you get some additional information on the restaurants and are not just going to the next Burger joint all the time. I saw Navigon has a bigger one with a larger screen and Bluetooth, of course that one looks nice as well but costs more, too. I like this one and highly recommend it.

starsNAVIGON 5100: Crap
I recently received the Navigon 5100 as gift (this required I) and have it by it am passed through steps around Los Angeles. I return it now because of the fact that the choice of route is inaccurate and wound. E.G.: (1) to go to work on the Navigon 5100 takes out me three blocks of my way, me back to encircle and goes only leaving the correct direction. (2) if I away of the course run away, am moveable the unit me frequently around and the road follow, which suggested her first. She should not do this. The 5100 should check and take me to the following existing road. (3) when I received first the 5100, I looked for the next bank and UP slammed the bank, which I go to each week. I regarded the revolution by revolution directions and low and see her left me to 5 form turn down 4 different roads. The merry part is the bank is only two roads away. WTF? (4) the POIs became outdated or straight normal wrong. I looked for a place, in order to eat, saw followed that there were a McDonalds close past, to the directions and the assumption, which? There was no trace of a McDonalds! I asked a friend, who lived her within the range for more rueber 30 years and said that it never gave a McDonalds at this position. I can live, without finding the next Mc Donalds, but I cannot live with a FIVE HUNDRED dollar navigation unit, which asks me to go completely with difficulty accessible. I was grateful near at trusted friend area and I this thing with the travel to use did not have. The 5100 a cool looking unit and I are like it are characteristics, but, if there cannot be efficient drive directions as, what the purpose of having it is? I am surprised, if a microprogram list and a software update regulate these problems? I estimate that it does not constitute to me at this point, return I this thing and buy a min. Concerning additional Cons the Navigon is 5100: - no mode of the automobile day/night - a language choice - text to the speech actual bad - wound and inaccurate choice of route - small screen means, which need you small fingers, it run to let - the verge is bad and becomes loose after one while - it way overpriced pro is: - smooth Design - tidy interface - zagat POIs - free TMC (traffic info.) - way assistant

starsOne week of test with 5100, TomTom, Accura and a nuvi 360 systems side by side
Straight ones accomplished one week of this product with three other COMM on systems next to each other examine. I have 7100 and bought 5100, in order to see, if it had the same problems. The 5100 suffers from problems with choice of route, bad points interest of consumption and the allotters, very long begin above. Verge suffered early breaking, as noticed by others on government inspection department forums such as government inspection department passion. For price accessory equipment is spirit-ill determined, if the autoloading unit is $132, for US customer.
