Not an Add-On - This is a NECESSITY
Yes, when you attach it to the D300 it certainly does tell people, "I am not fooling around here nor am I a fool with too much money. I am serious about photography!" Leaving that to one side, let me voice my praise to the Nikon Battery Pack/Grip and say this, YOU NEED IT.

It is an uncomplicated, not that expensive and simple way to assure anybody from the professional shutterbug way down to the point-and-click crowd that they will always get that shot.

People have cited cons as being the cost and the added weight. Well, you certainly do get what you paid for with this product and as far as the weight is concerned, let's face it: The Nikon D300 (like the D200 and D100) can never be credited for being lightweight cameras. It does add a few ounces but please factor the benefits of it into the equation. Imagine never having to worry about if you will have enough juice for those "must have" shots. You get two batteries available to you on a 24/7 basis.

Setting up is simple to the point that if you can charge a battery, you can use the compact grip.

So, to summarize, if you are into photography, and if you are fortunate enough to own a Nikeon D300, you need this batter pack/grip.

Solid Combo
It is a very full addition in D300. I had D80 and D200 with the vertical handle and both were smelled loosely. I would make him a practice to check the tension every 30 minutes during a projectile. The MB-D10 is lit there and realizes the two pieces (camera and handle) feels like one.

5 stars because this product is almost all PROs and very few CONS.

PROs:
-solid mag-alloy construction with rubber molded handholds make this very ergonomic, especially for folks with big hands.
- takes AAs as well as EN-EL4a's.
-fits the d300 perfectly
-has AF-ON button, multi-selector, and secondary shutter
-you don't have to take the battery out of the camera to use this
-improves shooting from vertical orientation
-balances the camera better with heavy lenses
-increases FPS rate
-'pro' look distinguishes you from entry-level DSLR crowd

CONs:
-fairly expensive
-EN-EL4a and BL-3 battery cover even more expensive (fortunately 8 NiMH AAs and a charger are fairly cheap -- cameta even has a kit for an extra $30 or so)
-adds weight (but then you have the option to leave it off, unlike the D2X)
-using EN-EL3e in grip doesnt increase FPS rate (you need 8 AAs or 1 EN-EL4a to achieve 8fps)

as you can see, the downsides to this are extremely minor. perhaps the biggest reason to get it is your D300 will look underdressed and incomplete without it.


Must Have!

I not I carried out required to buy the output plus élevé/batteries EN-EL4 have the price indicated and the additional hat of compartment of $200 chargers to obtain 8fps until 2' after that I recieved the product. However, I was astonished by reading 8 batteries of aa can obtain 8fps to you, and much more charmed to see the plate of aa included. Nice! This gives definately to the camera much more power, a more stable and more comfortable feeling for a better experiment of shooting. My wife also says it marks it harder so that I badly place the camera! You can choose which battery is used initially in the installation of camera. However, you will note that there is a net being used battery which is secondary by checking the statute of battery in the menu of the camera. No business. I recommend absolutely this like accessory necessary.


8FPS, Buttons for Portrait Shooting AND Uses AA if Needed
The issue that made my mind up to purchase this for my new D300 was the ability to use AA batteries if I needed. I'll be doing some international travel and DO NOT want to be in a situation where I can't get my EN-EL3e batteries charged. I see this as good insurance against a problem like that or my charger stops working on a trip.

I had a good friend hike the Grand Canyon recently and he took two batteries for his DSLR expecting that to be enough power for a 5 day hike. To his surprise, they drained MUCH faster than normal. He spent the last few days of his hike trip without power for his camera. In this case, carrying the extra weight of the battery pack and AA batteries would be a negative, but it just depends upon how important it is to you.





Very useful accessory.
After adding this accessory, my D300 takes 9 FPS!!! takes either nikon batteries or 8 AA cells. additional control, vertical grip are very helpful. it also gives professional look to the camera with slight increase in weight. D300 uses the battery in the grip first then the one in camera. recommended accessory.


Revolutionary
The battery grip to the D200 and D80 felt flimsy. They also only provided a vertical grip and an extra battery. You needed to take off the battery door and screw it on, continuously for the contacts sometimes did not connect.
This grip on the other hand is made out of metal and rubber, just like the D300 and has the same feel to it. It gives the body a more D2h feel, something canon shooters with a 40d often complain about. The grip with the high capacity D3 and earlier pro model battery gives the D300 the ability to shooter for hours on end and at 8fps. This grip feels much less like an accessory than as a part of the body. It may look expensive compared to the D200 grip, but worth it.
