Reviews:

starsSuper Surround System
We bought this system to replace an old system of 20 years Sansui. The installation was frank. The quality of the noise is excellent for the price. I strongly recommend to no matter whom who looks at to buy nice, quality surrounds the system without payment moreover which $1.000.

starsThe Best Home Theater in a Box
It is the theatre at the house by far best in the box than you can buy. To the difference of the majority of the HTITB, Onkyo 908 comes with "a true" receiver, Onkyo 605. I decided that since it was my first attempt to establish a theatre at the house in my part of family, I would go hand in hand with the solution supplements simple. I am very happy with the purchase. The loudspeakers are large, and the receiver has all the kinds of ordered devices which are detailed in the description of product. The best function is than all to connect of I to the receiver can have passed by a cable of HDMI to the TV. My Xbox 360, Wii, box of cable, player of DVD, and iPod all are hung inside. To have will "vrai it" receiving made improve the loudspeakers in the future easy to charge. Heat was not a problem for me because I have it in an open air TV-ME hold. Certain For: - the best theatre at the house in the box outside on receiver -"Real of the market (my opinion) it" - facility of setup/installation certain Exigeance: - does not come with the terrible wire from loudspeaker (more, just go in Lowe or with deposit at the house and buy some) - name of posting of change of capacities on the receiver (I must just remember that my Wii is on VCR/DVR)

starsOutstanding
I am one of these people who will hem and haw above a purchase like this for a long time, and are exactly which what I. I read reviews, write rises, of the characteristics, you calls it that I read it. I had balanced the account on two other systems before deciding this one because of his power, versatility and his compatibility. Installation - you will find that to run the loudspeaker which the cable (if you run it behind walls) is the hardest part of the installation. Once that all that is accomplished the rest is a breeze. No matter who who knows that something will indicate to you to run at least the cable of loudspeaker of 16 A.W.G. instead of the wire which they provide for you. I ran the cable of 14 A.W.G. and the difference which it makes is something that you will note, particularly if you compare the wire coast with coast. I also recomend obtaining a decent cable of coaxial of Secondary-Woofer. To hang the loudspeakers on the wall is a breeze. You do not need the brackets or the clotheshangers of kind. Mark simply the wall where the wire should come through and use an anchor and give the loudspeaker while using the holes of support on the back. Simple and easy. Take the additional care by connecting the loudspeakers to the exits on the receiver because you do not want with the shorts something together. Some peopel swears by fasten but me banana am one believing that more you connections made more than you can degrade the signal. Employez HDMI for acoustics as much as possible because if you have a Blue-Line or the player of HD-DVD which can decode the gguess of acoustics of highest quality then what, this receiver can decode it by its ports of HDMI v1.3. once that all is connected, you are ready to roll. To employ the automatic calibration of speaker of Audeysey is a breeze and it really gives you the best noise with some minor adjustments with your liking personal. Execution - I have a standard player of DVD (packed with the 708) related to numerical COAXIAL, a PS3 with HDMI, a box of cable with the COAXIAL one of fibre very connected to the system the Blue-Ray acoustics that noncompressed is a thing of audio beauty. It takes a small installation to obtain it PS3 bus in this moment it cannot with the bitstream the signal (the levellings would be coming), but the noncompressed audiio can be consulted by choosing the choice of PCM on the PS3. While playing "free of phase or the matrix hard" I chose DTS-MA and presto. It will indicate only acoustics of the English Channel of PCM multi on the receiver, but the noise is incredible. The first order of action in film implies an exchange of shootings of huntings of car, to fly of balls and a massive explosion. The exits of system to each 7.1 channel with astonishing clearness and the subwoofer can be house shaking with its higher arrangements. By playing DVDs I recomend the choice of DTS:NEO on the receiver, as it compensates for DVDs not having only channels of the additional expenses 2 of acoustics. The observation of the trilogy of Matrix was an absolute feast. The system right immerses you in the action and gives you that the feeling of theatre this all beseech us out of our theatres at the house of the orders of combat to the simple noises of one of the hovercrafts flying while shaking your windows. For "a theatre at the house in a box" I feel for the money that you cannot obtain a better installation. For the true audiophile, I read that the evolution of your loudspeakers can still obtain to you lower bottoms and of the higher hghs, but I am content to stick with the very attractive speakers with whom it came. The receiver is entirely compatable with today available higher audio jets of quality, and the upconvert of will any component, video of S, and composed with 720p by its ports of HDMI v1.3. the only problem which I had with the system is that the woofer secondary original it came with was defective because a strong rattle came from him on low noises of band. I simply packed it upwards and returned it with the label of return included and 4 days later I had my replacement which functions flawlessly. I had appreciated the TV, the DVD and the blue ray in very of his audio glory since and recomend this system with no matter whom who would ask. Higher Recomendation. FCT voice.blogspot.com

starsDeath Star is operational
When building our house last year, we opeted to wire a "media room" for a 7.1 system. I had been in a Bose store in 2006 and learned about 7.1 systems, but naturally couldnt afford Bose. The store itself was using an Onkyo receiver to power their systems. From that point on, I knew Onkyo was a brand I would enjoy.

Anytime I spend upwards of $500, I do my research. Both Consumer Reports and CNET had very positive things to say about the HTSP908, and even the previous model that came with a multi-disc DVD player.

Setup wasnt bad, but you truly have to take it step by step according to the manual. Despite the urge to slip in Saving Private Ryan and watch them storm Utah Beach in glorious 7.1, I had to set things up properly. In order to get the best sound, I did the auto setup Audessey thing and then tweaked it so that my rear speakers were louder. My room dynamics of course will e different from everyone elses, but I wanted to have a more complete sound rather than minimal echoes.

Like previous reviewers, I too found the DVD player slow to load. But like all good things, its worth the wait. My Subwoofer hums a tiny bit, but that might be due to its proximity to electrical wires.

Since very few TV broadcasts come in 5.1, let alone 7.1 using Onkyo's predetermined sound options has been great. The HDMI hookups are nice, but I wasnt able to get Dolby Digital sound through that connection. I had to "double up" and use an optical cable. For my setup it wasnt a big deal as I am playing everything on a DLP. My stand hides all the wires.

If you need HDMI cables, ignore the temptation to buy them from any big box store and go to monoprice. com. The savings will make you think its a rip off, but I cant find any valid reason to pay through the teeth for cables.

All in all, the HTSP908 is worth the money and time. Its loud, its got the ipod hook up, and price wise it cant be beat.

starsGreat Surround
I bought and installed this system at the same time as a liquid crystal display of 46"Samsung TV, box numerical of cable, system of play of Xbox 360, and Wii. It was very simple to cable components in and the manner that you can "assign" entries with the components is genius (although they should be raised with a manner of changing the names on the buttons... my entry of Wii is activated with the button of "DVD/DVR"). Is the quality of sound well better than Bose Acoustimass (the PS?) system I had with my preceding residence. The high ones could not be like high, but the half span and the low one of the secondary-woofer included in the system are large. I had a submarine actuated by 250W which I was going to use instead of the submarine running, but the quality of its is so good that I will stick with the current components. The central loudspeaker of channel is approximately 1000 times better than by using the loudspeaker of cube in Bose. I am really happy with the results, and the orders are so simple my 8 old years do not have any commutation of trouble of TV to the play with stereophony and the back. Completely happy with the system, and for the money I really doubt that you can buy the separate components and come out of better.

starsEasy install, great sound.
My parents wanted a better system for watching movies so they financed the purchase and I picked this system and installed it for them. The receiver/amplifier gets really hot when running, but all the literature and the Onkyo website says this is normal. I made a computer case fan modification for their stereo cabinet just to be on the safe side and get some air flow.
The sound out of this system is incredible, as is the picture. I used an HDMI cable to connect to the HDTV and the upconversion from the system makes a regular DVD look high-def or close enough for me (and definitely looks good enough for my parents). My only disappointment was the lack of mounting hardware for all the speakers, which have a kind of strange shape to the back of them. They have the standard threaded hole for a mounting bracket, but no mounting bracket included. I bought some universal mounting brackets, but they didn't have a way to "universally" attach to the threaded hole that I've seen on every small satellite speaker I've laid eyes on. This just added to my discouragement as my parents just decided to set the speakers on some small end tables around the room.
Overall, the system is incredible. I did my research for the type of system I would need and this one is a step ahead while allowing future compatability for a HD-DVD and/or blu-ray along with the HDMI 1.3. Not to mention looking around for the best price, I found some that were lower, but not by enough to justify the added wait for shipping.

starsOnkyo HT-SP908 7.1 Channel Home Theater System
This is my first ever home theater. I read a lot of reviews which lead me to this system. I have been using it since Christmas 2007 and so far I am very happy. This is more than a sound system, it is a control center for everything. It has 3 hdmi inputs. No need to buy a big screen with extra inputs you don't need them. Everything goes through the system input/output, so only one hdmi cable to the tv. This thing is a technological monster. I am not a geek so it took me a while to get it working properly and to tell the truth, it may still not be set up right. There are lots of sound options so it helps if you have some knowledge there.

starsAwsome product
This was my first big purchase as far as HTS go, and i must say it was the right one to get. The system its self is very nice and looks awesome. The system is great, everything is heard in detail, watching movies with this baby is awesome really kicks the Theater experience up a notch and being able to use HDMI cables to connect my equipment is great no clutter. I am very satisfied with this purchase and wouldn't give it a second thought. Also reading the manual will make the system sound even better once you have set it up as how you want it. Go for it you wont regret it.

starsBest Onkyo I've owned yet
I was a large ventilator of Onkyo since I bought my first back of receiver of Onkyo and CD player in 1994. It is my third purchase of Onkyo and a levelling of Onkyo 700 that I bought approximately five years ago. I bought this HTIB because it had very that I sought to go with my new HDTV. I wanted the commutation of HDMI, loudspeakers of low profile which I could assemble on the wall, an actuated subwoofer, a player of DVD with HDMI and to improve the whole healthy experiment. This package had all and with a pricepoint well below the systems I tried to go up with the hand. Being tested with Onkyo and installing systems of HT of my clean, I had little trouble to obtain this installation of system. I wanted "it rectifies" this time thus I bought banana catches to finish the wire of loudspeaker (I did not employ the wire who came with the system) which facilitates it SO MUCH to install. Without counting that connections of loudspeaker, I have a cable of HDMI outward journey of my box of cable and others of the player of DVD in the receiver of Onkyo and a HDMI out of going with my HDTV. I also have an analogical exit of my box of cable in the receiver to listen on zone 2 and one mini-jack with the stereo catch of RCA in the receiver to connect my player MP3 or portable computer to play MP3s. This by far much less is encumbered that before thanks to the cables of HDMI. The noise of the system and all options to adjust the noises blow far my Onkyo 700. The loudspeakers resound better than Bose 501s and Cambridge Soundworks surrounds me had installed with the 700. The new system and the old system were installed for 5.1 but the new blows of system right the old system far in terms of noises and 5.1 effects. I think that much of that must make with the subwoofer but the other part it is that the noise seems just more "expansible" for lack of better limiting. The speakers seem fantastic on the wall and they resound really good. It is difficult to believe the quality of the noise given the pricepoint of this system. Work of commutation of large HDMI and me did not note absolutely any deterioration of the quality of image running the HDMI by the receiver counters directly with the HDTV. I do not have the equipment to benefit from the possibilities of HDMI 1.3a but the weather is nice to know that one day if I obtain a player of DVD which supports TrueHD or a HDTV which supports the various devices 1.3a my receiver can handle it. I have three small complaints about the system but they are not enough so that I reduce my estimate by 5 holds the first role. 1. The player of DVD comes put box not to produce DD5.1 by HDMI. You must enter arrangements of player of DVD to change that. It is not a business but a true pain if you precisely do not prove to note only handbook of product that it is defect is not to produce DD5.1. That seems like a weak choice of defect placing the outside-of-the-box. 2. The subwoofer when it gives a kick above out of the mode ' attente' tends to make a "jumping" noise. I will try to push back volume on the submarine to see whether it of the marks it apparent. This occurs by looking at the TV. If there is no noise below the threshold of crossing during some time, the submarine dies out. When it returns on the "bruit" goes the submarine. 3. This thing become HOT. The receiver becomes so hot. I have it in a small box with the doors of glass. I had to lower the rack to give him more space and to install a ventilator on the back of the box. That is helped completely a little but before it obtains so hot you could not touch it. My other receivers of Onkyo never obtained like that. In a general way, it is right a terrible purchase. I am very happy and had completely appreciated it with my new HDTV assembled above him. They are complimented very well. It is large to look at the TV, the films and to listen to the music and it seems large in my box and rises on the walls.

starsAmazing system and I couldn't be happier with purchase!!!
I purchased the Onkyo SP908 for Christmas for $737 and I waited a couple weeks to review after having a chance to really test it out. I have PS3 hooked up via HDMI and this thing sounds amazing! I hooked up the system using the wires the system came with and it still sounds fantastic. The blu-rays played with uncompressed sound thru this system sound incredible. Watching movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Black Hawk Down is like being in the theater, let alone watching it on a HDTV. Also the IPOD dock included is pretty awesome, you can control your ipod from the 605 receiver remote control. The speakers are heavy which is good; heavy magnets inside mean better sound...etc. however they are still small and easy to move around. The sub sounds amazing with a knob to adjust its strength. All in all, I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I give this system a 5/5 stars and would highly recommend it to ANYONE!

starsGreat HTiB
The Onkyo-908 is a great HTiB. When I researched this product I found that they include their top notch (low-mid range) onkyo 605 reciever. After getting it home and taking some time to get the wiring correct (8 speakers worth of wire routing takes time) I turned it on and ran the auto setup program. It sounds like a cross between a bat and a drum and takes about 10mins to setup 3 listening positions. I was very impressed with the sound and my wife liked it as well. I didn't really need another DVD player, but it seems to fit the bill and has the nice feature of passing the audio via HDMI. I like it a lot and everyone I have listen to it is impressed as well.

starsGreat Onkyo System
We are very happy with this Onkyo HT-SP908 7.1 system. Probably, the $2000-$3,000 systems are better, but this system is all most people will need. The discounted price helped make the decision for us. The iPod Dock works well for regular classic iPods and for iPod Nanos, but not for iTouch iPods. Some photos don't show the iPod dock, but it is included, and allows the user to play songs and videos in vivid color and vibrant sound on your flat screen TV/surround sound system.

We also purchased a Sony 52" LCD HD-TV, an Apple-TV unit, and a Playstation 3. Both the AppleTV and the Playstation can access the Internet if you have a router/modem setup in your location. Together all these units really complement each other, and provide a true home theater experience.

The HD channels are an excellent video and audio experience, and every day more stations and channels are switching over to HD. The regular SB source is ok, but HD channels (and Blu-ray DVDs with our Sony PS3) are fantastic. The Onyko DVD player is ok, but having a PS3 DVD / Blu-ray player is a better way to go.

I'm still confused about whether to use upgraded speaker cable gauge, or not. (We bought a roll of heavier gauge wire in case we want to replace speaker wires, and/or need extensions for some speakers.) We also purchased the recommended 1000 series Monster cables and a Monster outlet unit to be sure to get the best sound and picture and surge protection from our home theater system. We also intend to buy a relatively inexpensive SquareTrade extended warranty to help protect our investment.

It's a good idea to get 2 or 3 pairs of speaker stands, unless you will mount your flat panel TV and speakers on the wall. (We purchased the cheaper ones that worked out ok.)

This particular model has a full 1080p HDMI port that allows easy connection. (The other Onyko amps / systems have only pass-thru HDMI ports, which necessitates the use of additional cables.)

As everyone says, you can probably get a better system by buying individual components from one company and speakers from another, but that costs a lot more, and is a lot harder to set up. This Onkyo system is great for most of us home theater users that want good value and good sound to match the beautiful vivid and vibrant pictures of the new HD-TVs.

starsExcellent sound
This product beats its equivalent on the market. I seeking for HT1B for completely formerly. Onkyo exceeds all the hopes in terms of noise and value for the money. The only problem that I found is that it make a small noise by commutating channels (something of similar to transmit by relay). But otherwise, it provides the exceptional execution.

starsGreat sound, great fatures, great price
Before buying a new HTS, I spent to very seek much time which was outside there. I looked at all the variety of HTiBs, various components, and various loudspeakers, and before I ever saw this I had decided receiver of Onkyo TX-SR605 and loudspeakers SKS-HT740. Much with my surprise and pleasure, Onkyo had recently packed up receiver TX-SR605 with the updated version of speakers HT740 (maintaining the SKS-HT750' S), of a player of DVD, and a dock of iPod. What really made it in value was to him the fact that I would have paid the same amount right these two components as I made for this whole package. As for the way in which it carries out, I can only say the defect of the sound reproduction. It is in a decent den of size and it has the abundance of the power to blow the place. I had never had the occasion to listen to the system before I bought it. I in the place listened to the multitude of reviews of praise the audio products of Onkyo, and I am happy I made this decision. Acoustics is clear and crunching, the submarine is powerful abundance, and the receiver has an impressive device regulated for the price. Sure, another entry of HDMI would have been nice, but for the price I certainly cannot censure it.

starsGreat value, Great sound
After considerable and unquestionable research a cracking budget I balanced the account on very happy Onkyo and AM. The system has many large devices and large noises. Perhaps the front loudspeakers could be extracted a little more from the juice but hé I spent 730$. The controller of Ipod functions WELL with the good outside and noises. The player of DVD has many large devices and the upconverts with 1080i spout out. The subwolfer also has a certain blow-of-foot. You cannot honestly beat the business - 730$ and one great system provided to your house. Strongly recommended and satisfied.

starsThis is one nice system
I would like to first say that this unit was packed better than anything I have ever recieved. This is not my first surround system, but it is my first onkyo and 7.1. All my previous systems have been 5.1. Once I was done admiring the overall good looks of all the components sitting on my table it was time to start wiring. A couple more speakers, mean a little more wire to run, but overall pretty painless. onkyo color codes pretty much everything so you cant mess it up. I hooked up my new Toshiba HD A35 dvd player with a Monster 800 HDMI cable and then to My Toshiba 1080p 47 Regza lcd tv with the same type of cable. Again very painless, my satalite reciever was a little more extensive, mainly because I dont have a hd reciever, so I used the s video and component audio to the reciever. works fine, my main purpose is to watch movies. I also hooked my vcr, and x-box up to the reciever. The great thing is that the 1 HDMI cable to the tv is all you need to the tv. Picture is awesome and the sound is unbelievable. I reccommend the onkyo speaker stands, acutually I picked up 2 sets, the sub is huge but beautiful. I could not be any more happy with my purchase. I have not hooked up the dvd player that came with the unit or the I-pod dock yet, but I'm pretty sure it will be amazing.

starsNot really supporting HDMI version 1.3a
I have just talked to Onkyo Tech Support rep Erik:
It's not enough to have HDMI connection in order to get Dolby Digital 5.1 sound from DVD player. Receiver requires to have Coaxial or Optical connection set, otherwise it plays only PLII 2.1. This quite diminishes the value of HDMI connectors in this system, and raises question on credibility of Onkyo advertised specifications in general.

starsGreat home theater
Initially of all I would like to say that forwarding and the packing on this system were impressive and all was in the perfect form. As for the system it is also a great purchase and large noises in my house. It took to obtain used above with the posting of screen and to obtain it rested for the HDMI but when it all comes together is an impressive system. This thing rocks make sure that you read the Manuel product carefully; it will make establish the unit much easier for you. Large product and much of the Amazon.

starsQuality for the price
Not very easy to install without reading the manual and large noise, multifunction, 7 1 system of loudspeaker was above my hope for the price.

starsGood sound great value for money
I bought this Onkyo Home theater in a box system and boy isn't it good! Lots of input points so you can virtually connect everything you have and more without needing to ever switch wires. The quality of the sound is great + it does up converting of S-vdo, component input, analog av input to HDMI which is good for people having HDTV (which I dont have at the moment). Another cool thing is that it transfers both audio and video along the same HDMI output cable! Great if you own a PS3. Thumbs up from me!

starsReview by a non-audiophile
To put it simply, I bought more system than I needed in this case. Granted, now that it's installed, I am thrilled with the sound quality and features this system promised...and delivered.

However, for a guy who has gotten used to everything working out of the box once it's all plugged in right, this was a frustrating experience. I KNOW it says to read through the manual "thoroughly" before trying to turn the bloody thing on, but who does that? As it turns out, once you plug the INCLUDED DVD player and TV into the receiver via the INCLUDED HDMI cable, insert a DVD, change the input to DVD on the receiver, and press PLAY...nothing happens. Well, the DVD spun up, and said it was playing, but...no sound, no picture. I thought HDMI was supposed to make this simple. However, as the manual plainly states, you have to use let the receiver know you want to actually USE HDMI via a setting (which is defaulted to OFF) even if it's the only thing plugged in, even if it comes packaged to use HDMI out of the box. No "plug and play" here. Then, after reading the manual "thoroughly" I still had a two hour tinker session ahead of me to get sound working from my satellite receiver. It was an obscure setting buried in a sub-menu of the receiver, but I finally found it and got it working.

This is NOT a theater-in-a-box system designed for those who want as little agony from setting up a surround system as possible. With 7.1, you're already looking at devoting an afternoon to running and hiding wire all over your living room, but with this, plan on spending your night getting the settings to a point where it will all just function properly. It's like the AV version of installing Linux. It's great once you're done, but God help you if you run into any problems along the way.

starsTruly a tremendous value
I bought this system for $748 with the free stands of loudspeaker. I had this system assembled and operational during more than one week now. Really one of the best values for a receiver of worms the high-conversion of HDMI and the system of 7.1 soluble solids. Only 3 against very minor: 1) the player of DVD is a simple player of DVD, not 5 DVDs (but is to him HDMI); 2) the subwoofer is 3) the 3 entries optical humongous (but elegant), one in the front one. One 4th would not have killed Onkyo. Honestly, it is all the exigeance. It is a great value, and no-brainer if the Amazon always offers the elegant stands, which with the detail for $150 only. If you are a true audiophile, you will not regret this purchase.

starsFirst Home Theater Purchase
It was my first purchase at the house of system of theatre. After much reading and comparison which I decided to go with Onkyo HT-SP908, it seemed as it would integrate well with my liquid crystal display TV of 52"Sony. It was in my scale of price and had all the options which I sought. The conjugation was fast and easy. The only problem that I have cannot come into contact with the support of Onkyo. After all the installation, calibration and configuration I do not seem to obtain the noise which I provided of my surround and raise of the loudspeakers. Tried to come into contact with Onkyo to their number 800 to two separate occasions but could never speak with a representative about support. Once I was on the catch during more than one hour and a half, in the east of 8:00PM when the hours of the operations is above each one which waits in the queue obtains cut out independently of how long you were on the catch.

starsexcellent quality
The best system at the house of theatre I ever had technology audio lossless principal inclusdes the last resounds superb. The dock of ipod lets order your total system of turn remotely nice of ipod excel, could only be better if they included an audio lossless blue ray of dvd of withmaster of player, intstead of a upconvert one.

starsGreat Bang for the Money
I was impressed by what obtain with this system at the house that the majority are at a cheap rate made and have you to it bad noise. Sure the receiver is only model 605 with two the central Institute of the statistics of the hdmi and one out of but its 1.3a. This gives you the last and greater acoustics. SDR Hd and true Hd if you connect leaves the word a toshiba Hd-a35 and allows the bitstream and for the test of Blue-line the dvd pointed DB_hp20u of aquos which built in true Hd and SDR-HD in 7.1 also. Bitstream is hidden deep interior installation but its them. Moreover the Blue-ray of samsung BD-P1400 also rectifies the hd and the SDR-HS. The player of dvd that you obtain in this system is a standard dvd with the high graduation. For receiver 605 and the people publish with the SDR and the numerical noise, work then Denon different of Onkyo or Harman Kardon. They encourage you to make it possible each to enter say the dvd with what you want that it plays in a small as well conceived step of installation. I employ the system in the front room, with a liquid crystal display pointed of the aquos 720p and thought that it was rather good. The total noise is better than than you could think. The speakers seem nice and install on the wall with the facility. Employ the audyses installed but still it is a cheaper verion of him. This version measures only 3 sectors to mix the noise. For example Denon AVR 3808ci employs 6 sectors at least different to adjust the noise with you. In a general way you bevelled badly go hand in hand with these installation and jet in the air in a dvd of hd or the blue dvd of ray and for the money a its flight. My systems are.
