Philips USA AJL308 Clock Radio with 7
Reviews:

starsWonderful product.
I purchased this for my mom for a birthday present. I am so glad I did. This was a much better deal than a plain digital picture frame. She really enjoys the radio on it.

starsPhilips Clock Radio
I am using this clock for one brace of the weeks. I appreciate all the characteristics. The quality of the image is risen from the side weak person but it is not too much defective. It could have been the image. I appreciate the fact that you can program the times fiochi and that you can record the brightness of the clock. I appreciate to leave it from then on the lower regulation the only time really I watch it are when I am waking up to the morning and is still dark external part. The would' ve it has given to this article a star 4 but it does not roll up with the pics as I wish it to.

starsDecent product with a few shortcomings
Having a clock and a digital picture frame is a great idea. Unfortunately you can't have a slideshow while you are in clock mode (as shown on the product picture). When in slideshow mode the picture is decent but you cannot play music in the background. The ability to play Divx movies is an interesting addition but the screen is too small to really enjoy it. The nature sounds are nice but somewhat limited in variety. The auto-dim function comes in handy so you don't have change the brightness when you go to sleep. If the product had a slideshow mode where a small clock showed in a corner I would have given it four stars. If it could do two things at once then I would have given it five. The concept of merging an alarm clock/radio with a media player is great but you may want to wait for the next generation of products for a better experience.

starsbad product
thought this was going to be a neat little clock until i used it.im not going to list any pros about this clock because it is made defective.now the problems are: 1.makes a humming noise at low volumes kind of like a white noise so when you listen to the radio or relaxation sounds its impossible to fall asleep when using the sleep funtion. 2. i purchased 2 of these and one lets you listen to the relaxation sounds before choosing the selection where the other one doesnt (very weird). 3. i have shut the alarm off after waking up and it still goes off(happened twice). 4.no battery back up on such an expensive alarm clock. i tried other ones at the store and they do the same thing. to me this clock just sucks and isnt worth a penny. phillips put a product on the market before completing the project or never tested what they made. i buy alot of electronic items and never seen something so poorly made. dont buy this one.

starsGreat clock radio and digital picture frame
This article is large! I have bought for my moglie as a present and it of Been born them have worked wonderfully. We have not had some problems. The images seem large on the screen and the clock is pleasant and large also. He would be pleasant to have the projection of diapositive in the clock way also, but still it deserves 5 stars without that option, sspecially for the price confronted to other digital structures them and that what offers.

starsIt could be so much more....
Its like a blackjack compared to an iPhone, its cools but just shockingly bad software. Why don't they just let the software be open source and we could download our own on to it. Its professional design, great idea, but fails on execution - see the other comments for details. For those of us that have bought it, we should all email Philips and demand a software upgrade (note if you go to their product support website, there is an upgrade for an old bug, but not a general upgrade for deficiencies in design).

starsReview of Philips Clock Radio AJL308
The AJL308 Philips Clock Radio has many very nice features, most of which we have not been able to use as yet. The appearance is nice and the large numbers are especially good for my wife who has rather marginal vision. The unit does not have an AM radio. This was NOT stated in the product literature we reviewed before purchase. We have not heard of a clock radio that does have both AM and FM for more than 50 years. In addition, setting the alarm time and the alarm is unnecessarily tedious, even when due care is used to follow the provided instruction manual. Making the changes in the hour and minute times has an unusual response time that requires too much experimentation every time we want to make a change in the alarm time. Once we have the alarm set, the multiple choices of alarm tones is an extremely nice feature. Although there are a lot of alarm tones available, we cannot find different pictures to insert, and, for the next several months, we will not have the time to learn how to load our own picture for display. Other choices such as a nice mountain scene, landscape, etc. would have valuable for us. The primary user of this product (my wife) has to take her AM radio to bed with her so she can turn it on after the alarm goes off. The bottom line is that if we had tried to use a display of this product we would not have bought it.

starsMore than just a picture frame - nice desktop gadget
Philips AJL308 is more hardly than a frame - it is an pleasant and useful device desktop also. The quality of image is good, even if a higher screen than resolution he would be desirable. But then, to the price paid it, $ 89,99, it is approximately that what would have to be previewed. The only appraisal that I have is the customer interface. There is far away too many keys and mutations like using them. It is hard to understand why Philips has not been useful for the graphical device and it has not used an interface of customer of context-driven/graphics-guided. The additional cost of the implantations would have been zero. With that one, they would have given to the product five full stars (that they reflect the attractive price).

starsNot a finished product....
I have bought this to a great price and are excited in order to give it to my moglie for Been born them. When I have pulled it from the box it, it has thought a R-a.buon.mercato small. Once that will ignite it, I have had immediately to modernize firmware on the place "phillips" because the date was wrong. Someone has passed to the guarantee of the quality with the date and the day of the week that is from the synchronization. How that one is happened? In a generalized manner, against far away it has exceeded for in weight and I have given back it. For - it has been similar has glorificato the alarm clock. In order to conclude, a sure company outside it is rising here to the slab and it is trying to make a clock that it is more hardly than a cicalino normal of the vaniglia. The images and the video were an pleasant touch. Against - it has had to install the new ones to firmware from the box it low, search screen, when the brightness is all the sense down and the audio is playing a distinguished buzz is felt (and is being gotten annoyed!). The contrast is defective. Game of Videos, but with a conteggio annoying down in the angle (cannot remove in the preferences). Also when the brightness is all the sense down, it is enough luminous. Radio of the Wal-wal-mart of the 10 dollars cannot wake up to the wireless reception of MP3' s. was defective of mine. Inferior line: It was a great intention, but really it has need of a sure serious improvement with the software. If been thinking to buy one of these puppies, it directs in order to designate or an other retailer who transports one and the look it. Then you will be able to confirm this review.

starsPhilips Digital Frame/Clock Radio
Good product, nice to see that it can play Divx videos. Can do mp3s, jpgs, and divx vids straight from your san-disk! All amazing stuff for a cheap price but not much flexibility otherwise. Thin choice of alarms, annoying time clock and auto-dimmer when playing vids, jpg randomizer hard to use, mp3 player is feature-less. Still glad to have gotten it for my niece though. enjoy.

starsNicely featured and yet room for improvement
In the first place, I have obtained it to an exceptional price, so as to a lot is satisfied with the relationship of cost/function of this chassis of alarm/radio/photo. Good one of the alarm clock has function much that you can easy regulate a lot the time or the double alarm. It has a great condenser or one small inner battery that maintains the time in which it you d3connecter in order at least one short while. The FM radio is moreover pleasant graceful, for the structure of the photo and Divx plays the posterior function. However, there is little integration between the different functions. Various of the Shoqbox, it does not have the escape of the auricular transducer, line-in, or the option in order to choose one lima MP3 for the alarm. It must possess the loudspeaker that the escape has good graceful feeding however. To times, there is a buzz noise especially when darkened the screen. The function of the posterior part of the game of Divx is that what I appreciate the greater part. The handbook is not much informative one on this characteristic. From the estate the arrow abbottona for the second ones of the brace, can change the lengthening or prime the fast way of forward/reverse with the multiple regulations of speed. The contrast relationship is much bond in order to watch the video. Even if the different functions are not integrated, save the space a lot on your base of night.

starsAmazon did not deliver
I have ordered this structure like Christmas present them for my son. The pursuit of the package has said that it has been transported before Been born them. That what really has been transported was an accreditation given to my son for the cost of the article but has not included the movement or shipping charge of the gift. Which it is value approximately $20. They have not been communicated from the email that was all the problem with this article. And Amazon has shown that the article has been sent, but was not. A lot is disappointed with Amazon as far as like this has been handled. In the past I have not never had a problem, but this time was terrible. Hour I have noticed that the product costs $40 more than when I have bought it. Therefore my son cannot not buy the gift that I have meant for he. He has signed an unfortunate customer!

starsWon't wake you up with MP3 !!!

starsAwesome Product for the price
Recived hardly the braces of the days... Didnt I have had much time to play with it. The much good ones has controlled hardly the sound relative and the exposure is tooo pleasant. For the price the paid one was a rub... 40 bucks.

starsGood Alarm clock with some other features
Like the title says, it's mainly a good alarm clock with some other built in functionality. The quality of pictures is passable at best. So if you're looking for a digital picture frame, you're better off looking elsewhere. I haven't had a chance to test the video capabilities of this device, but other reviewers are of the opinion that it is nothing spectacular, as expected. The only bright spot is that Philips keeps working on firmware upgrades, so at least some functions should improve in the future.

starsNice gadget....
I have attended until that it did not go on the sale to Amazon for $50. I have not thought that it was worthy more than that one. The usual price is $129 to the circuitcity, $79-99 to Amazon. Two things I have not appreciate it especially approximately are that you cannot you have chosen the image when it you are on the clock way (you can only observe the first one pic on your drive of the USB) and it does not have a support of the battery. Except that one, for $50, the necessary state has all the characteristics (alarm, clock, radio, frame) and I read them I can play them films with also.

starsDecent multimedia device, average alarm clock
I bought this to replace an old CD alarm clock of mine that was getting too worn out. I don't want to beat this to death, but I am trying to figure out why someone would create an alarm clock that can play back MP3s but won't let you use them for an alarm? As I see it, this is a DIVX and MP3 player. It is also a basic photo frame. It is also an alarm clock. Yet, none of these features work with each other. I can't imagine anyone using this as a MP3 player when there are cheaper solutions that can do much better. The built in speakers are too mediocre for even casual listening. No headphone jack either. The speakers are, however, suitable for waking you up in the morning but only to preset ambient sounds or FM radio. I don't use the radio because there is nothing being broadcasted at 5AM on a Sunday morning that I want to hear. The ambient sounds grew annoying to me quickly, so I am using the alarm tone to wake me up. That is a function even an $8 alarm clock is capable of. Multimedia is good. Great implementation of SD/USB storage. Too bad the menu is so poor. It displays file names in xxxxxx~1.xxx format! I haven't seen file names displayed like that since the mid 1990's. I only put one album on it because too many files will be displayed in a very confusing format. Video playback is pretty good, but how useful is it? If you can get the unit very cheap, it is a fun toy. It looks great. A cheap USB flash drive or SD is a requirement. No battery back up! It displays the date (mine even does so correctly with no firmware update needed). The software, mentioned several times by other reviewers, is really underdeveloped. If they can improve it, this would be a killer product. Unfortunately, as shipped it makes for only a basic alarm clock with unrelated multimedia playback capabilities tacked onto it. I tried liking this but I am disappointed that I will have to find something else or use my old CD clock to wake me up in the morning.

starsWOW, this frame/calender/radio does it all very well!
I bought this when amazon had it listed for $50... I feel like i stole this! Its a great all around frame and desktop tool. I'd pay up to $100 for it, but i'm considered "cheap". Other places have it listed for $180

starsInnovative Clock/Picture Frame
I am very happy with my purchase its a combination between a good desktop alarm clock, and a digital picture frame. Its easy to use, bright with auto Dim function, resolution could be nbetter and screen size could be bigger but its more than acceptable as it is. Not to forget the excellent digital ratio and its reception.

starsA decent value, but could be a lot better
The Good: All in one device with a compact form factor. Good option if you are looking to replace an old alarm clock as we were.

The Bad: Requires a storage card for best and most cosmetic operation. Screen emits a fair amount of light even with the dimmest mode --- my wife had to turn it the other way in order to fall asleep.

The Ugly: Low resolution screen and photos are slow to load. No slide show function in clock mode.

starsYou can sell your bedroom lamps!
What a great idea for a clock design but it has it's flaws. It has 4 brightness settings and a program to auto-dim during the times you program. The most noticeable flaw and the reason we returned ours was that the very dimmest brightness setting still lights the bedroom brighter than any night light could. The entire 7" screen emits light far greater than the typical LCD display. It is obnoxious how bright it keeps the bedroom. Hopefully enough people will complain so that Philips makes a software update to allow the screen to be dimmed further or turned off.

starsGet Idea, poor product marketing and development
For: Great industrial engineering, useful combination of the frame and the clock, good with of the characteristics. With: no way of projection of diapositive when observation with the clock, the Poor disposition of screen of clock/picture and the sensibility to low lighting system, no wireless frequency of. Accosento with that what others have said R-with regard to this product. I have bought this product for my moglie for Been born them because it has had need of new clock of alarm and is the type enough sentimental. That is a great idea that the sales of Philips and the square of exec. have supplied, but being in the administration of same product I, can imagine that the poor sale of product has condemned this product. I will bet that there was no groups of study of test or the fire of the customer for this product, or if there were, we they are making the questions exact, or are verifying them in the good conditions (has made anyone every one have test upgrades them of the customers to sleep in one dark room with it.) My greater problem with it and reason for which I will give back it, is that you cannot way of slideshow the images when extension the clock. That is since is a graceful cold clock and a good digital structure them of the photo but cannot be both - "a unreasonable hand that does not know that what the other is making." Moreover accosento with an other critic that could render to better use of the screen from 7 inches when extension the clock and the photo. The interface planner more has been interested with making resembles it of the photo to a flowing one of 35mm that thinking all the space that wasted takes on the screen in order not to point out the space excessive white man whom it gives outside of too much light to the night. They are not of agreement with that what other critics have said to us approximately no built-in memory; if yours to go to use this like frame, the greater part of the customers will buy a 1 to the shunting line card standard 4Gig for it - and in this execution, Philips it of right. Philips, if been listening to, not deep-six this series of products because of poor sales or returns, but rather from a poor execution from your square of development and the administration of product - still you have one probability to make a winner with a proseguimento this product, or a meaningful modernization of the software.

starsThis is NOT an MP3 Alarm Clock
This device is a snazzy digital picture frame with some excellent features, but DO NOT BE FOOLED. It is NOT an MP3 alarm clock. It has alarm clock features to wake you up to the FM tuner (no AM) or to some pre-set sounds (mostly nature soothers). The packaging is somewhat misleading, and the store I found it in placed it with the alarm clocks and implied that it could wake you to any MP3 or WMA file placed onto an SD card. It is NOT the case.

That being said, when viewed as a digital picture frame, the device is quite nice. It has both a slideshow feature and a clock feature which will show you the date and time while it displays photos singly or in a loop. It has nice speakers for playing MP3s with or without a photo slideshow, and allegedly it can handle DIVX and MP4 videos (I have not made it work with one yet). The unit is stylish and far more at home on a work desk or well-kept home than most digital picture frames. Be aware, however, that to use some functions the files must ALL be kept on the root directory of the memory card and that it does not support MP3 playlists.

Overall, a nice addition to the digital picture frame arena, but be careful an overzealous salesperson does not mislead you about its true capabilities.

starsIt does eveything with almost no regrets
to answer a few other reviews right off the bat the default image is only the first picture until you go into clock mode and change it then go back to the other modes.

I bought this for my father for Christmas as he was looking a for a desktop radio and we liked the idea that it was a photo frame as well as he is proud of his farm and family and displays pictures throughout his office.

I am currently testing the device to make sure it's perfect for his gift and I don't see the problems others are seeing unless they just missed the feature.

it dims for night use if you hold the snooze bar, it rotates pictures using the arrow buttons

IN FACT my only complaint is you cant use the USB stick input and the SD card at the same time. and internal memory would be nice, but if you bundle the 1GB SD amazon offers it works well.

the picture is slightly pixelated and flickery, but bright and plenty visible. it's not a perfect picture frame, nor a perfect alarm clock although it offers many features for both. but it is the only combination of the two that I would buy.

starsFor the right price it's a good unit
I have obtained this unit for approximately $49 with free transport and to that point of prices it is worth it. It for the $100 is not worthy that the MSRP is declared As. The LCD has the poor resolution (even if all the text is anti-aliased that aids a po') and examination angles reasonably limit to you. The volume control is not electronic, neither legacy to one source, with some sources which music of sleep relaxation, being substantially more fort of the playback of DiVX and MP3. The modernization of firmware has resolved not only the problem of the date, but the expanded observation also added of file name and some others tweaks of the aesthetic one. In spite of that what the handbook says, I cannot convince to a MPEG4 the video lima in order to play. The lime of DiVX they seem to play without some editions - benchè the exposure or time of playback remaining of playback cannot be extinguished. The backlighting of the LCD it is controlled is from a large key to the advanced part that also from the regulations of the software that they grant the exposure to become gloomy to it is lower level to a selected time and return to luminous to a selected time. The regulation fioca is, for acceptable me on condition that does not have the directly indicated exposure me. Turning it a po' in order to face the room, it provokes a nightlight pleasant. The leggibilità of the exposure and contrast suffers one heads when the backlighting of the exposure it is turned down. The wireless section of the sintonizzatore does not support RDS or the AEON for the wireless stations.

starsdecent
A lot for $50 when Amazon has had it, nonlo buys more in order than 70 approximately.

starsI like mine.
A little cropping (top/bottom) on landscape photos. Not sure if you can operate in slideshow mode while clock is displayed - but I keep mine in slideshow mode and photos cycle every 5 seconds (default).

starsIt's okay
Based on the reviews, you take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both and there you have the Philips AJL308. My better half purchased this for me, and to be quite honest, it meets all of my needs. There is one minor flaw and that is a strange high pitched humming sound whenever you play music. It only happens on the relaxation mode and the music mode, not the radio. If it continues, I'll return it but for now I'm in wait and see mode. I will say it has a very nice "Church Bells" alarm that is rather pleasant to wake up to. If you cannot sleep with light in the room, this product is certainly not for you. Even at its dimmest, the light is still enough glow to keep the light sleeper awake. The resolution is not thrilling, but its nice. It reminds me of impulse items at the check out. It's not something you really need but it does fill a void in your life you were not aware was there in the first place. Is it great? No ... there are plenty of flaws ... but if you're looking for an alarm clock that can display photos and play a few songs, it should meet your needs. It's "okay."

starsForm over Function
You'll be impressed when you take this unit out of the box...a very handsome design, until you turn it on. There are two fatal flaws, and several annoyances. First, even in "dim" setting, the considerable real estate on the 7" LCD gives off so much light that you can read a newspaper in the room (I tried it!). I would need eyeshades to sleep in the same room. (You get the choice of red, green, blue, and purple "wallpaper", but NOT black, which would have solved this problem, at least at night). Second, and I can't believe this: a full half of the screen in "clock" mode is taken up by the picture frame. However, you have three choices for that half of the screen (which you will be seeing all night long): 1. You can forever look at the picture of two people that Philips has selected to be your permanent roommates, or 2. You can load your own photo, BUT that will require you to have a USB memory stick permanently protruding from the left side of the unit, or 3. Buy a separate SD Card and somehow figure out how to get your picture loaded onto it. (The unit has no internal memory, so when you remove the memory stick or card, you can only see the default picture, and it can NOT be turned off!)

Now, the annoyances: This unit is multi-functional, but none of the functions are designed to work together. For instance, you may select "photo/video" mode and view your pictures in sequence (the random setting does not seem to work), which makes this a mediocre digital picture frame. However, when you return to "clock" mode, you will NOT see the slideshow of all of your pictures, only the first picture on the stick (you can't select), or worse, the default picture.

Next, you can not set view your alarm settings while in "tuner" (radio) mode. It's one or the other. If you want to change your alarm setting, you must select "clock" which turns the radio off, and vice versa.

I consider this product to be completely unusable as a bedroom alarm clock. It seems to have been designed by committee, with no one talking to each other, and no one having tried to live with the final product.

starsdiscounted price make this unit more likeable
never reviewed anything. this is more like a find. just got the unit today at BJ for 79.99. photo quality is pretty rough but not unclear. playing some japanese cartoon in divx file as I am typing this review and it looks more than acceptable. i think i will keep this unit. Besides, SD card is so cheap these days i dont mind getting one just to display my kids pictures.

starsI love it...
I love this device - and I leave them to be honest, to the conclusion of the day that is a clock of expensive alarm, with some characteristics that enter it in the arena of the device. I doubt of that a digital structure them of the photo would have bought it for must possess the cause, but this has had appeal moment. It seems fantastic ago and that alarm clocks would have to make... with a style cargo. Accosento with some of niggles more ealier - own the inabilities to select your alarm clock the music that is the downer larger for me. But hour I have had mines for two months and still I obtain one jolt watching it! Kind of Marches that wake up a pleasure!!!

starsNice hardware, poor software
A previous reviewer pretty much pegged it: stylish hardware, nice screen, nothing else I've seen quite like it at this price point. But oh, where did they go to get the software??? Imagine: file names with only the first six characters displayed; no effective way to navigate among (thousands of) music or picture files; white borders on the sides of standard 4:3 ratio pictures contrasting glaringly with the glossy black frame; or, use the 16:9 screen format and just not show people's heads; no slide show in Clock mode and no way to permanently replace the default picture that someone at Philips at least seems to like; and then there's the randomizer that doesn't really seem to. The operation of the unit isn't exactly intuitive either, and the documentation doesn't cover all features. They could easily fix most of the shortcomings in a software update, but remarkably enough the Philips website doesn't have a way for you to submit suggestions or complaints (that's a 'future'). A great pity, because they almost got it right on this one.

starsVery nice alarm clock
There's much to like about this clock. For those who have not seen one in person - it's more like a digital picture frame that also shows time - very cool concept. There are only two things that I'm upset about. First - low resolution. To the point that you almost do not want to use it as a picture frame. What were they thinking??? Pictures look horrid when viewed full screen from a short distance. Another reviewer posted resolution numbers as 480 x 234 - I couldn't find any numbers in the manual, but I can't believe for $130 they didn't do better than that. Second - the background selection is only 4 colors - red, blue, green and purple. I do not like any of them. At least they could've included black background - I could live with that. All in all - I like it a lot, but the low resolution of the LCD screen is very upsetting.

starsOne Fatal Flaw
It is a great idea, but it has a mortal defect them: in visualizing the clock, cannot show one projection of diapositive for the image from the clock. You can use them for a structure of slideshow, you can use them for an alarm clock, but you cannot use them for a clock of alarm with one slideshow. I have given back like consequence of this.

starsToying with perfection
Us it must mólto love approximately this product. It is I polish. It is stylish. It is luminous, GRASSETTO and luminosity (can be darkened!) Clock-radio with two independent alarms is one that moreover plays the lime audio (mp3 and wma), the video (mpeg4 and codes of divx) and the projections of diapositive of the photo (jpg only). It has sounds incorporates to you "of relaxation" in order to help them to fall addormentato. It has therefore a lot to go for! And in the same moment in which thoughts it cannot obtain at all to improve... It does not obtain more best. A small slips. Begun to think she, "if only..." and "why not as soon as they take the measure following" Why are not we one tip much small of the built-in memory so that card of shunting line standard or the stick of the USB does not have need of one to fix to change the photo cute-but-divent-cute-but-becoming-annoying of defect? Why I cannot select one lima audio on the shunting line standard or the USB like my music of the alarm? Why only three sounds incorporate you for relaxation music ""? Why are not we a sintonizzatore of? Why is not us one taken cap? Why I can only visualize the JPEG-DISPOSIZIONE images? For to widescreen the 7"lcd frame, why it is resolution only 480 x 234? Why are not we a support battery? That is therefore dispositive nearly perfect small that is painful to see as near Philips has come to make the better device on the market. However in spite of these defects, it is still therefore wonderful that demand four stars. Lucky person for Philips, us the characteristics do not seem to be some possible alternatives with all that it still has to this point of prices.... And considering the edition of Giorno-de-$$$-SETTIMANA: Philips has sended to a modernization of firmware on their Web site the 14 september 2007, that it repairs this edition. Visits the Web site of Philips, writes within "AJL308 to machine" in order to find the page of the product, selections the linguetta of connection of support (hardly over and to the right of the product image) and rolls up down to the section of the software. There is a pdf legg-me lima and one lima of ZIPPER with the real modernization of firmware. It reads the pdf and with attention it follows the relati senses in order to modernize firmware to you. You will have need of a drive of the USB to transfer the modernization of firmware to your AJL308 and is necessary several minuteren in order to complete the modernization, but once that it is made the day of the week would have to be corrected.

starsGreat, except for 1 major flaw...
Observing product large that is much easy one to use. It is 5 stars except 1 main defect... In fixing the date, the exposure of not corrected day in. As an example, if you fixed the date to september. 10, 2007, will visualize Sunday rather than monday. Hour they have had the same edition with 2 models and in warehouse the model has had the same edition. Other secondary editions are that you must have a USB or card of shunting line inserted standard (not included) in order to change to the defect photo the clock comes with. Not a great transaction but that the orifice of the USB is from the side of the unit, so as to you will have a USB ugly to attack from the clock.
