Glad I finally upgraded!
For the past year I had been reading all the reviews telling "horror stories" about Quickbooks Pro 2007 so I held off upgrading from Quickbooks Pro 2004. When Quickbooks Pro 2008 came out, I decided to give it a try. I'm really glad I did! It loaded & imported all my data (going back to 1/1999!) with no problems. The program looks a little different, but is basically the same. If you've worked with earlier versions of Quickbooks Pro, you'll have no problems getting used to the new layout. Ordering from Amazon was fast & easy. Item arrived very quickly. Would recommend buying Quickbooks Pro 2008 from Amazon for the best price & fastest service!


Less than expected, More of the same
I have always been a fan of QuickBooks and find the software to be a necessity for anyone with a business. However, my upgrade to Quickbooks 2008 Pro was very disappointing. QBP 2008 is VERY slow to load and even slower to save a file. Plus the added benefits of QBP 2008 are not worth the price or the hassle of the upgrade. Here's a tip for you, save your money and don't upgrade unless they force you to abandon a perfectly good version of Quickbooks due to lack of support anymore.


Quick Books 2008
I had been using Quick Books Pro 2005. The changes between the 2005 and 2008 versions are significant. I found it difficult to do things the "new" way compared to the tried and true "2005" way. However, I feel comfortable that I will make the transition in short order.
Quick Books has been my primary accounting software since 1997. I think it is very good for small and mid-size companies.
I have not discovered any glitches in the 2008 version, and hope I don't find any in the future. I have never had the need to contact their customer support, so I can not comment.
I find their fees are expensive, such as their tax tables for those who prepare their own payroll checks.


Intuit refused to assist when an Amazon reseller sold me an unauthorized copy of QB Pro 2008
QuickBooks Pro 2008

I ordered QB Pro 2008 through Amazon via one of their resellers. The copy I recieved would not validate after installation, so I called Intuit tech support (India, very hard to understand the rep) and was transfered to another rep because my installation could not be verified. The second rep said there was no way he could issue me a validation key because the copy I had was a copy authorized for resale only by BestBuy, not the reseller who had sold it to me, and only BestBuy could authenticate the copy, and that should have happened in store when purchased!

After several minutes of asking how can a legitimate transaction on Amazon be denied and what was Intuit going to do help me, I was essentially told "there's nothing Intuit can do - you must return the copy to the seller." Were they at all interested in the details of the transaction? Did Intuit care about how this could happen with a prestige reseller like Amazon? Could someone at Intuit help resolve this issue? - all answers were NO!- it was my problem, not theirs!

Worst example of "No Customer Service" I have ever experienced in 25 years of buying software!!

My accountant has highly recommended Peachtree Accounting Pro 2008 as an alternative.


Cumbersome Product
QuickBooks is supposed to be the business version of Quicken. However, after using Quicken for a while I'm disappointed how cumbersome QuickBooks actually is.
Reporting is better than in Quicken but data entry and consolidation has a lot of background rules and processes and they are not always very clear.
I'll keep looking for alternatives...

If you've used the previous versions, this one is no different. A couple extra features but nothing big.


QuickBooks is slow books
The product is slow and Buggy and INTUIT customer service always takes to the correct simple problems. I would switch, if there were another integrated pay roll bookkeeping program, which worked together.

Intuit constantly increases the fees for departure updates. If you read the reports for the version 2007, see weighting each about the costs of these updates, which increase to $200 (them were once $49). Now they lifted it to $350. This bear repeating: DEPARTURE UPDATES ARE NOW $350 ANNUAL. And I expect it to increase hold, because they have their users by the coin purse.

Not a good match with Windows Vista
I did not know that this product has bugs with regard to Windows Vista. It crashes on me, won't open and the data transfer was iffy.

However, I had been advised that I had to upgrade for the payroll support.

Fast books Pro2008 is absolutely unbelievable. When small firm owner, who handled everything (including wage and pay roll) with a pencil and a computer for the last FIVE YEARS ~, this program my life a complete lot will more simply form. It to set up and entering all necessary data is very involved, and can be confusing a little. DO NOT LEAVE THIS IT TO DISCOURAGING! doesn't work with vista
Although it is announced, in order to work with Vista, it is not completely functional with visa. None the Tutorials, which come with it, can be played on Vista, until you go back to an earlier version of lightning. This is not that simply and the instructions are not free of the air-dried clay brick you, or from QB. As soon as you do it, the Tutorials plays, but you cannot use your computer, in order to do still something. They cannot play videos of utube, or two versions cannot have more other web site, because all require them the newest version of lightning, and you on immediately. Novice Opinion
I am a first user and find the product to use in order to be rather simple. I have to crack a book on it thus possibly miss I a quantity of abbreviations, but thoughtless she has the view and the feeling of a good-developed, due product.


Payroll Option is NIGHTMARE
Upgraded to access enhanced payroll. Unbelievably Quickbooks STILL will not download NJ state deductions (last tried 2004). To make matters worse I have a PA employee. QBKS requires that I add each small NJ tax item by item on both the global employee default list and the Pennsy employee individual setup. Thanks INTUIT! It is amazing that every year they repeat the same lies: "Quickbooks automatically downloads tax tables..."
PS: In INTUIT math why does .005 equal .05%?



Beyond Buggy
I bought this product, when I opened a small stor, in order to inventory, wage and pay roll and management of my cheque account to do. Up to now the wage and pay roll of o.k. work, do not use I the inventory, and I do not know to downloaden after 2 months, a bank excerpt into it although I have a rather large middle west bank. I during December was explained that marks came, then came marks and I can not him do still. Repeated calls for my bank were more useful than accelerate, which essentially washed its hands of it. I am very much in Intuit disappointed. I have to accelerate for my house and love it, but I do not re-issue the money for Quickbooks.


Powerful and Easy To Use
This is my first experience with Quickbooks. It has been very straightforward and easy to use with great tutorials. I will also be buying Point of Sale and am looking into other Quickbooks products that integrate with each other to simplify as many steps as I can.


Intuit's Annual money trap
I don't think the enhancements over pro 2007 will be of much use to most users. I haven't noticed anything better in this version so if you are happy with pro 2007, no need to buy pro 2008.


AWESOME PRODUCT
This is the best product, which you can buy. If you let a small firm trust me, is this the only way to be gone to hold your bookkeeping straight and to form the life more simply for your tax person. Quickbooks online banking took a little while to work
I spent all day at the telephone with Boa and Quickbooks, which try, the Quickbooks on-line banking operations characteristics to receive, over with Boa to connect. The situation was repaired, when I experienced that you must wait, 24 hours after Boa a change make or a characteristic made possible. Per Quickbooks 2008 is a large product for the money. The distance of the characteristics is amazing. It seems to be, a small Buggy, therefore support is A must. Since Intuit gives only 30 days free repetition attendance to support, recommend me I strongly to buy the yearbook to paid support plan if your business depends on him.


Doesn't import transactions???
This frustrated me about quickbooks 8 years ago. How is it that in 8 years there is no import transactions feature built into the software??


Great program thats hard to improve on except for the support
I'd like to say first off that the tech support for QuickBooks Pro is poor unless you get an American on the phone. I guess for a program that costs less than $200 you can't expect unlimited free tech support from US reps but it would be nice if you could get one on the phone once in a while or perhaps pay a little extra to speak to Americans only. We decided to pay the extra for QB Enterprise, not because we really needed it but because of the Tech support plans. It's amazing how good the Tech support is when your willing to shell out a couple thousand $$ and then agree to a $750 a year renewal fee. Still though, it's much cheaper than talking to my accountant and the Enterprise technical support is generally outstanding. They will go out of their way to make sure you have everything you could ever need. You still will sometimes get a goof ball if you call at odd hours and very occasionally when you call during normal hours in but for the most part everyone you speak to is located in the US.

The product itself had some problems back in 2006 when they released this new type of QuickBooks. We quickly because frustrated with hosting issues, slowness, having to install it on our server, errors logging into the file etc..

2008 however has been very good thus-far. It's not that big of an improvement although I do appreciate the fact that it integrates with Outlook. The new help system also seems to have a pretty big improvement. Some of the other complaints I've read seem mislead and/or petty...some of this is no doubt the poor technical support from India. For example, one person mentions that after 8 years they still can't import transactions. Sure you can! We've imported AR and AP transactions using import through iif. The tech support person we talked to sent us templates on how to get this done and while it's pretty clunky it gets the job done. Sometimes I can't get the "exact" report I want or I wish it did something a little better but the problem is that all businesses are different and it's impossible to have a program that will please everyone all the time.

The things QuickBooks does well FAR EXCEED what it doesn't do. It makes accounting incredibly easy for a business owner, reports are pretty darn flexible. If their not flexible enough for you, upgrade to the Enterprise Edition and you get a Read ODBC driver that allows you to Query the database using SQL and make all sort of fancy reports in Access and Crystal. The biggest strength to this program is it's ability to be a jack of all trades. In one of the reviews someone is complaining about having to use Excel with QuickBooks to get the report they want but that is such a small gripe. The fact is that QuickBooks has a feature that allows you to export to Excel and customize things to your liking if you don't like exactly how they've done it. That's a benefit not a downside! They have taken the time to integrate with other products so well which I think is one of this products biggest strengths.

The woman who has to rebuild her file repeatedly sounds like she has data damage in her file, something that has only happened to us once in 6 years and it was very minor. She also says she's getting a switch to message several hundred times? That's not normal. I've seen QuickBooks running on several hundred of my clients PCs without seeing that error. I can tell you from personal every day experience that the product runs fast if you take the time to set it up right, have decent computers (1-2gb of RAM is standard these days), and a decent server if your using a multi-user edition to hold the data file and take the "brunt" of the workload.

If you have an anti-virus program make sure to have it exclude the QuickBooks processes! We had an issue with our file giving strange errors when we would open it that were similar to the switch-to message. The file was also running unbearably slow for a couple weeks. I eventually started booting the computers in selective startup and was able to determine the Anti Virus was at fault. I excluded the QBW32.exe process and everything has worked great ever since.

The bottom line is that for users that already have 2006 or 2007, this is a small upgrade that's probably not worth it. I think most people like myself become spoiled over time from how easy this program really is to use and find ourselves frustrated when it doesn't do everything just perfect.

If your looking for an accounting package for the first time, this is the one to buy look no further. QuickBooks is supported by so many accountants that choosing another version of software in my opinion is a poor financial business move. Not only do you have to go out of your way to find an accountant that knows how to use Microsoft accounting or any of the other small Accounting packages but you may also have to pay a premium for their help because they are such a rarity.

This program is incredibly simple, offers just about everything you could ask for in reporting, 3rd party integration, emailing, creating sales and purchase transactions, taking care of your taxes, automatically sending your file to your accountant, I could go on for a while. Get it, it's the only accounting software I would recommend to anyone. If only they would offer their US support for less $ I would have given this 5 stars. 5 stars for the program, 1 star for Pro tech support, 5 stars for QuickBooks Enterprise tech support if you can afford it.

Quite completely like all new versions, since I began to use 2005. The view and the feeling are the same. The underlying characteristics did not change much. Possibly here or there so they can say a new key that the user interface changed and at all the most user friendly is. The template managers has went through something changes for this version. Nothing, that are drastic and the plan designer are the same. If you are new for bookkeeping I, believe that QuickBooks is still the best. I accomplished a quantity of examination with Microsoft bookkeeping Pro2007 and beta examined 2008, before the general beta was released. If its QuickBooks version is old the years of a pair, then I would recommend an ascending straight, in order to remain a little present.


QuickBooks Pro 2008 is worth it.
I am upgrading from QuickBooks 2003 so it was certainly worthwhile to me. My accountant said I will gain some very useful tools, especially having all the important information in one place, rather than navigating between various tabbed screens.

VERY Disappointing and NO Customer Support
There are so many things STILL wrong with this program! I had the 2005 version and felt it was time to upgrade, but am very disappointed in the result. I feel like I spent $180 for no improvements. Maybe I should have taken a closer look at Microsoft Office Accounting?

I still can't format reports! The only way to get a report to look the way I want it is to export to Excel (thanks, Microsoft) and then format it there. Example: I create a report called Inventory Stock Status by Item. There is a column called "Order". There is no way, without exporting to Excel, to show ONLY the items that need to be ordered. And wouldn't it be nice if I could choose which columns to chow and what they should look like? Or to set up an amount in the Inventory Item, to show how many should normally be ordered? Not a chance!

So, you open the "Help" window. Not only is there no help there (except to find the link to "Make Suggestions"!), but the Help window moves your main window out of the way and then DOESN'T move it back when you close it. So you get a "little" version of your program left on the screen, after you can't find any help...

Then I went online to get "support". In about 30 minutes after asking for help, I get a call. The phone rings, and no one is there; then it rings again, and no one is there. Finally after the 4th try, I answer and, hooray!, there is a "support technician" that I can barely understand that knows NO MORE than I do. "Sorry, I can't find any answer to that question" and "It doesn't look like the program will do that", oh and the classic, "Perhaps you could make that suggestion and it will be included in a later release"

I suggest that you look elsewhere for an accounting program unless you find all this frustration personally entertaining.



Wow! Puh-lease
Wow! Look at all these 5-star reviews from Beta testers! The 2008 product is better than ever! (According to them)

Please. Are we really that gullible? Did Intuit send these people an email on Oct 15 saying they would pay them if they wrote good ratings on Amazon? Did Intuit just send them written copy to use directly? Come on--their reviews all sounds like marketing text.

I have no idea whether the product is good. But other reviews on the internet all explain that this is a relatively minor upgrade--not something with the earth-shaking features all these reviewers seem to be spouting.

I despise deception, and I certainly don't believe all these 5-star reviews from the beta testers. And that alone makes me not want to buy this product.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I just hope people read the 5-star reviews with a grain of salt after reading this one.

Quickbooks 2008 GREAT NEW PROGRAM
Just got Quickbooks Pro 2008. I was using an older version, but this one is the best. It was really easy to learn and the new features are great. I can now pay my payroll taxes online with ease. I have a small managment company and this saves me time and money. Great software that I recommend to anyone, especially people like me with no accounting backround.

Quickbooks 2008 a GREAT Product
I was a beta tester for this product migrating from Quickbooks 2007 to Quickbooks 2008. The product worked just as promised, no problems, no issues. I formerly developed an in house accounting system and have surveyed all the accounting solutions in the marketplace. No product offering in the market matches, Quickbooks 2008's ease of use, functionality and support. It integrates well with other products (i.e. outlook, excel, other e-mail products). It is an excellent incremental improvement over Quickbooks 2007. It has built in payroll and credit card processing. The value this product provides is amazing and it is so easy to install and use! I can't imagine any intelligent business person not choosing quickbooks for a small or medium size business.

As a Beta Tester for the PRO version of Quick Books 2008, I personally witnessed the thorough job that Intuit does to ensure their product preforms as we want it to in real life. This latest version includes all the user friendly extras that we expect, like federal AND state payroll tax payments directly from Quick Books. I highly recommend that you give this one a try!


Quickbooks Pro 2008
I used Quickbooks for more rueber 6 years now. This newest payment by instalments is better, than any from them I in the past used. I may not really send the characteristic the Muessens email calculations of the Intuit operator. We had expenditures with on our last copy (2006). I like that you can use the prospect, which is express for those. The user friendliness of this program is large. Forwards I was a complete new, as I, began her years to use, and she was so user friendly. The "assistance" really helps you! Large product Intuit. Maintenance up the large work!

I have examined Betaquickbooks several times and with the simple navigation of the user interface as well as efficientcy the program was always fallen. They thought of everything! It is a good thing, also. The way, which I touch money, I, was lost without Quickbooks!


Since 1993 Quickbooks user
I have been using Quickbooks since it was still a DOS software and it has only gotten better each year. I have only experienced one bad download and it was resolved by Tech support that very day. The only drawback with QB's is, you DO need to have an accounting background not just a bookkeeping background. It is a very powerful accounting software and needs to be initially setup correctly. But after that is done....it is a great accounting software! For the price...in my opinion...it rivals many high priced softwares in features and capabilities.


As Usual - Big Problems
Of this bought a pair at a local memory days before. Attached and the program does not work. Of the screen flashes and completely leaves like Quickbooks 2006 did me a pair years before to totally different computer fairly. Used 2 hours at the telephone with Techunterstuetzung and could not not it received still, in order to work. Thus I noted on the box that he had 60 a daily allowance back warranty. Thus I drove to them down to the memory and showed the box and asked for my money back and received her. Quickbooks do not like wasting time with badly sketched flockiger software. Attached Microsoft bookkeeping 2007 without problems.
