So how many features can you pack into one little phone?
My sister bought a Sony Ericsson about two years ago and I fell in love with it. So, when my Razor started losing its battery life I decided to upgrade to this phone. I love everything from the radio, walkman feature, pedometer, 2mp camera, etc. I've had the phone for two weeks now but haven't even played with all of the features. Battery life is good and I love the color (Graphite with blue highlights). At first I thought the number pad was too small but I haven't had much difficulty. The only problem I have with this phone is there is no flash for the camera, it didn't come with a memory stick (some features can't be accessed without it) and I wish it wasn't so easy to unlock when I put it in my back pocket. I called someone when it was back there!


Cingular Customer service
prices exorbitant of expenses cingular. I have telephone from cingular in order enough while hour but for some reason the radio has stopped to work has been asked to transmit the telephone behind; but it has been given a new telephone have given back the old telephone that says that it was damages of the water and saying me "to I cannot give back the new telephone but they must pay it" hour I have 2 telephones? that I have called the reps of the customer the package of the times that this is wat has had to say "the WAGE". that is not before the time anyone has had such compliant from cingular as far as expenses but reading the tribunes online it has thought that it was test to help the vicinoi thy. Cracked keypad problems not fixed!
Before buying this phone, I did a lot of research. I read tons of Amazon reviews, CNET reviews, random web reviews---you name it. While everyone went on about how well-designed the phone was, they DID complain about the keypad breaking. I called Sony Ericsson myself and spoke with a representative from there. He stated that the broken keypad issues occured with the first batch of the w580i phones and that I should rest assured knowing the problem had been addressed and fixed. I thought to myself: how hard could it really be to completely fix a broken keypad and replace it with one that doesn't have the slighest chance of breaking? So, I went along and ordered the phone.

To my dismay, not even 3 weeks later, I noticed three of my buttons on the phone's keypad had broken! I guess the representative didn't know what he was talking about.

While the phone has a ton of great features (which I'll save you the trouble of reading; past reviewers have raved about it all enough) and a very good battery life, to me that's no good if the keypad is going to break after only 3 weeks. Out of all the phones I've ever had in my life, I have never once had the keypad crack. What a shame, really. I will never trust a Sony phone again. I will be just fine with my Nokia and Motorola phones from now on.




A pretty cell phone but with some flaws
I had this cell phone for about 3 months. This phone has many functions and also has a low range of digital camera which can be used occasionally for causal use. I gave this phone for a 3 stars for the following reasons:


Pros:
1. thin, and pretty
2. lots of function.
3. comes with a built-in camera.
4. cheap, and strong signal (due to AT&T good broadcasting towers?)
5. with built-in mp3 player, and changeable Micro card.

Cons:
1. The mp3 player does not work for other non-latin languages. I guess that the programmer has no idea that there are at least hundreds of languages other than English, Spanish, German. :)
2. The slot for the Micro card is not well designed. 5 out 10 times I have to press the card door to ensure the card readable so that MP3 files can be player, because mp3 files are stored in the Micro memory card! This is annoying!!



Cool phone with great sound and loooong battery life.
I really love the battery life of this phone. It lasts a good 8-9 hours talking and or listening to it as a MP3 player or radio. Great music phone with good built in speaker too. Comes with headphones also.


pretty good phone
I have enjoyed this phone since getting. Music capabilities are pretty good for someone like me who is technologically challenged. One drawback for me was some of the pre-loaded games are identified as not compatible for down loading, go figure?!?!. The salesperson in the ATT store says give it a few weeks and it will be compatible. Sound quality is good, my husband always has me repeat things when were in the same room but he seems to hear me fine when we're on the phone.

Cons:

I got mine last week and the 4 and 6 are cracked in half and the 7 is falling off also with little wear. The keys are made up of very thin plastic and crack if hit wrong; went to the AT&T store to find the store model also has cracked keys.

The keys not only break easily with minor usage but are very crammed and you will find yourself punching in more numbers then desired

The screen also isn't very well protected and very exposed which will most likely lead to future damage

The whole body and frame is made of plastic and feels cheap and flimsy

Memory card has to be a special one for sony phones only and are alot more pricey than the storage disk for competitor phones

No flash on camera



Bottom Line

If you aren't a perfectionist, texter, or cellphone gamer and are looking for a cheap phone with incredible technology and mp3 playback and don't mind if the phone is cracked up this is the phone for you. If you are one of the previously mentioned look to the new lg shine cu720 slider phone offering almost all of the same functions in a stainless steel body and keys. It may be more expensive but it is worth it. It was not in sony's best interest to produce such a top of the line phone from a technological stand point and then skimp on the materials, they should of charged a little more to make a more durable, less delicate phone.


Bad Phone, DONT Buy!!
This telephone is realy Badly, I have obtained hardly the telephone and I have had too much problem with rebooting and the separation. The serveice of the customer of the Amazon with Evil also, the only answer that I have obtained from they is cancellation the order.


Great phone but AT&T screwed up
The phone was great. It was slim and stylish and easy to use. The features were good also. Some features include a pedometer (and some fitness applications) FM radio and walkman music player. You need to get a memory stick micro (M2) to store more stuff because the phone only has 12MB and most are used up by the phone when you get it. Overall a great phone including the camera but reason for the 4 stars is because AT&T screwed up by changing and removing many great features. MP3 ringtones were limited to 30 sec. by AT&T and other great features were removed by AT&T also. If you want all the original features from Sony Ericsson you would need to debrand it.

I have had others 5 ericsson of the SONY and this is the better thing!!! I will use only the telephones of the ericsson of the SONY and this was the purchase that better I could make.


Good phone, good features, but horrible keys.
I have possessed this telephone from the fine August of 2007 and is the telephone that better has still possessed. I have put my Motorola Razr through the washing machine a night after our game of game of soccer, long history of friday, but I was trying however a new telephone. After that buys the telephone, they are felt one to me of my friends say that he has bought the same telephone two weeks before that and its keys had broken to the bottom straight the half and completely I have thought that wished to give back it my telephone because it has not wished anyone that it has the same telephone. He was not joking, because five days more subsequently, my first key has broken off itself, number 5. Hour is December, I is trying an other telephone, not because this telephone is not large, but every student to the school has a cursore. It has been a large telephone less than every key the half has been fallen apart down!

Very disappointed with the W580i.
My previous telephone was the SONY Ericsson S710a and it loved it. Therefore I have thought that the W580i was an improvement from that one. But it is not sadly. And for the price through Amazon that is $,01, I would have to buy a different telephone even if I had to spend more. Good: Free sound. Small but good free screen. Badly: The keys have been fallen apart to right after that had it a month. Amazon has not seemed to know their own politics of return like, about the 8 representitives has spoken with, 4 have said could be exchanged without the problem for a different telephone and 3 have said would search in order to only transmit it to an email standard of refutation and one has had the courage to say that all were twisted, asks excuse for the transfer and they say to me that what I has attended from a free telephone. Not there is no light on the camera of the camera therefore therefore, here lines of the pixel in every loudspeaker that of Horrilbe of the image the telephone does not think next to using the loudspeaker in order to play music. To times it will receive an error of the dead women. The cursore thinks fragile and I take care myself that finally it will be broken off. The duration of battery is not large. The hole of the wrist strap is in a generalized manner that useless it is a telephone of base aimed at years of the adolescence. Wheras the S710a that said has been introduced towards one older crowd. Therefore I was a pollone for the purchase of the this and hour I must living with it for contracted mine from 2 years. Amazing Features - BAD Design
They have been a fan die-hard of SonyEricsson for the years... from the T616. I have held on my S710 until that it was not last breath. When finally I have had to make a change, pondered and confronted for the months. It calls it a nerd, but forms and the function in telephones you furnish is incredibly important! In the first place on the reception of my W580i, I was ecstatic. With and the customer-interface of the characteristic they are NARCOTIC! The format is exactly that what I have wished it... I cannot not think that is a telephone sli in my pockets. Like texter avid, it was not much before that the keys on the numerical keyboard began to fall apart themselves. Love it, but be wary
I have had this telephone in order nearly a month and have I loved to it second every. They are a long customer of Nokia of time and finally commutato to SONY for the cursore and the declared advanced vocal quality. I love the w580i for relati to you the small format, functionality and alignment infinitely of the characteristics. Unfortunately, my petitioner attendance little telephone already has had a breach of the key, something that you before found unacceptable at least of the year mark. Moreover, the sound is not much more better of my previous Nokia (also after that the Nokia had broken in the half love... the vibration telephone). But as I have said, still I love this telephone. It is snazzy and fresh and dispositive of cooling that jello of the lime a warm day of summer.


Nice phone
I got this phone from At&T when I upgraded my plan. It is nice phone with good features, voice quality, signal reception is pretty good. I love its 2MP camera. Actually this phone's camera take better pictures than my Kodak easy share 4.1MP camera. Volume of Walkman is loud enough..overall ia good phone...the only problem is that it is very thin so I bought a clear case for its protection...


Nice Phone
C$r-with regard to the customers and ' to the lock ' of the telephone it characterizes the operation... of the telephone automatically does not block closing the cursore. You must ignite blocked the characteristics manually and then, if it goes to sleep closed or to open itself, it will demand that you press the key of sblocc and then... press the just key will unblock the rest. I have not had problems with coming of the telephone unblocked from himself. I am enjoying player MP3... that absolutely fantastic sound and the transfer of the lime is simple (if not little a slow one, but that one is tolerable) and I have not demanded some software support. I crack just in the card of memory of m2, it inserts the telephone the PC, it drags and it falls the lime in the device of music bending. I could arrange one ton of songs and some audio-books within here also. The sound is phenomenal for a telephone. The functionality of the telephone is good. They said not better than other good telephones, but enough good. I have had a SONY Ericsson before also and loved the telephone. Then commutato to Verizon and their telephones are alone horrible (service are good). A month it makes, swtiched of new to To


So far, so good.
So far I have been very happy with the W580i. The biggest issue I have had was with the battery cover on the phone. It was nearly impossible to get it to slide on tightly. After speaking with a Sony Ericsson rep, they explained that it is indeed difficult to get on, but for good reason. Apparently it needs to fit tightly in order to prevent it from opening up if the phone drops. However, I have already dropped the phone once and the battery cover flew off along with the battery. Other than that, I don't have any complaints. The reception is great...and it is one slick looking phone. The features aren't too shabby, either.


Great Phone with a fatal flaw
I've had this phone for 3 weeks and I love it but it has to go back to the store. This phone is loaded with great features like a 2 mp camera, walkman, pedometer and its cool looking.

The primary reason I'm taking it back is that when I'm talking to someone, if I touch the back or sides of the phone the person on the other end has to listen to a loud scratching noise. The phone also has a cheap feel to it and the keys are flimsy and are easily pressed when the phone is in its case. Often when I take it out of its case, its already unlocked and has accessed the internet or some other application just from accidently pressing the buttons while it's still in its case.

Sony is my preferred brand and I'll continue to buy Sony products although they missed the mark on this one.


Good Phone - Some Drawbacks
I've used this phone now for a month & am really impressed with the quality. The small size has tempted some to slide it into a pants pocket & then be surprised that the screen cracked. It's a small thin phone that's just long enough to be stressed when you sit down, so don't put it in your pocket. The Walkman features are fantastic, the sound quality is exceptional from the included headhones, which are also a handsfree (sort of). The cable has a switch that ends up right below your neckline... you just press it if a call comes in while you're listening to music, the call is answered. The switch has a mike built into it, so you don't have to start fumbling for the phone to talk.

Others have mentioned the internet access button is on the outside of the phone & yes, this is a real problem/design flaw. It'll connect you at random every time the phone presses up against whatever you're storing it in. I had 8 hours of unintentional internet usage my first week of ownership. There are a variety of ways to deal with the problem, one reviewer here mentioned changing the internet settings so it won't connect. You can also call ATT & they can offer some good options. There is a keyboard lock function meant to prevent problems like this, but it sometimes doesn't work. If you get this phone DO NOT use a phone case with a magnetic clasp. With the keyboard locked, the magnet will not only deactivate the lock, but will activate a variety of phone features, from placing phone calls to people in your address book or recent call list, to connecting you to the internet. I know this from personal experience. I could pass the case over the phone without even touching it & it would place phone call.

The display screen is small, but it's very hi-def, bright, and has deep color saturation. I have bad eyes yet have absolutely no problem seeing the display. To me, this is a real plus over a lot of other phones.

So in conclusion, Sony... get that internet button off the cover of the phone! That was a really stupid idea. All they have to do is put it underneath where the number pad is where it's protected.

I have had the phone for a couple of weeks now and am enjoying it.

Pros: It comes with a data cable which helps a lot (esp. with MyPhoneExplorer)

Very bright screen

Cons: Some of the buttons are easily squeezed so that the standard carrying cases you find at the mall may cause issues.
I am also not in love with the fact that it uses M2 for expanded memory instead of MicroSD, but I understand that Sony is going to promote their standards.
It is sometimes not intuitive how to end an application, although it can usually be sorted out in 4 or 5 clicks.
Some functions, such as Bluetooth, are a bit spread-out. I have had Sony Erricsson's before, so it does not bother me as much as it might a new user.
Moving icons from entertainment to organizer, for example, is hard or impossible (I haven't found a way yet).

Smaller then my last phone.
Recently I have bought this telephone as modernization to my SONY Ericsson s710a and have found some things I wish that the telephone has had or was different. My main reason to buy the telephone was for the characteristic of the walkman so as to I could ditch the smallest player MP3 who and format and weight. In the first place outside, not there is zoom for the taken one of the images, the blowup device only works while it takes the videos. Like declared more soon, not there is flash or light pure. The quality of the images is on the par with my previous camera, the video is moreover typical. In the second place, the darn small "they connect" the key are one heads too much easy accidentally to press and you can endure expenses if you do not have a program of data on the telephone and the only option had to completely remove the access of the Internet from the telephone, but would sacrifice the ability to jump at all on the Internet. Phone powers off during calls
I have read the other reviews and I really do not see anyone possession the edition that I have: this telephone is fed down during the telephone calls, usually after approximately 1 minute. careful with the back cover
As with most other reviews,phone is fine,compact so the text keys are not as easy to use as a krazer but i knew this when i ordered.
On the first day setting up the phone the back top cover came off.On/off button went flying.To their credit, Amazon shipped a replacement immediatly even before i shipped back the defective phone.
The cover issue could really be a problem if you are used to switching out sims overseas.
Im hoping att international service works well.




Pre-review
I ordered this phone last week and so far i have a pretty positive opinion about this phone. It is a great deal as i upgraded my at&t account. you cant beat paying a cent for a phone. i love the fact that it includes an FM radio because not many phones have this and i know id use it plenty.

i also ordered the 4 gig memory stick which was only 50 bucks!!! thats a great deal. the only concern i have is the battery life and the durability of the keys. im not a rough guy so it shouldnt be a problem. i give it a 4 out of 5 based on my pre-impression and will see if it makes a 5 when i receive the phone.


Excellent phone though some concerns.
Guys, this phone is good. I guess we can not compare with I phone. The thing I like compare to I-phone is its size. Also the FM radio. This phone feels good in hand. on negative side - key pad is small. Slider seems good but not sure its life. There are reviews about key pad issue (breaking keys). I hope it is fixed in newer lots. Even with these issues, I like the phone and I don't want to return/exchange it. I thought battery is issue but battery life improved after made screensaver off. Earlier navigation light was on most of the time and eating up the battery. Now I have to charge in 2 to 3 days depending on use. Its bad that no memory is included and so I could put only 2 songs. Plan to add 2 GB or 4 GB. Outlook contact/calendar sync works well and that is one of the deal breaker for me. Camera is good too. I returned W810 and got it. I am not too happy about it as W810i was more durable I guess but I love this phone though I have concens about its durability but it does not feel flimsy to me as some reviews said. There is no 4.5 so giving 4.
Update - It has been little over a month. No issues yet related to durability. Created my own ring using Music DJ application in the phone. In alarms I can play my own MP3. Since speaker phone is good , I can play Mp3s on speakerphone while phone is in my shirt pocket and get enough volume.

I like this phone except for one thing so far. The battery cover is the hardest thing to get on and I broke it the first time I tried to take it off and put it back on. But I have to say that sony stands behind there products , they replaced the battery cover free of charge. So just be carefull if you get this phone. I think my Motorola was better made , but I don't like there software. But this phone has great software and you can use it with your computer which is great. I would recommend this phone. Just be careful with it.


a terrible error
The purchase of the this telephone is a terrible error. My old SONY Ericsson W800 works large, so as to I have chosen this telephone for a modernization. But this telephone has problem with the rabbet of the memory card. To times, extension that not is card of memory within. After that you plug outside and you insert, it is right. But after that facades some operations, have still gone. I have obtained other for the rimontaggio, the problem are still here. I have visited the local warehouse of ATT, the problem are... ché headache suspicion still here... The this model has design defect...


Sony Ericcson W580i
I have bought this telephone approximately a month makes and up to now the characteristics and the design of the telephone are satisfied with. Still I am learning like using some of the suitability applications that this telephone comes with, it so as to are characterized packed. I appreciate the design of the cursore, as soon as I make sure accidentally to block the not componiate keys so that outside when it is in your pocket. Mine a claim is in the menu of messaging, you cannot roll up down in order to observe the other messages of the text once that you open one in order to observe them, you you must behind and then go prechosen that one following. That is inopportune, having to remove the message that been reading hardly in order to read the following or previous message. Task that is a defect of design in the software. Except that one I have given the 4 to it on 5!


Mystery dialing
I have bought this then I have given back it. Just test this test same you: Face to slide the cover down in order to block the telephone, puts the telephone in a holster mounted strap, rewards the front part of holster the three or four times. Hour removes the telephone and will see that it has unblocked enough often and acceduto to the Internet, composed someone from your book of address, or been trying to transmit a message of the text. I have appreciate the telephone, but I could not living with this.


Flimsy
This phone looked really cool, but when it arrived the battery cover wouldn't slide into place because one of the tiny plastic flanges was bent. All those little flanges on the cover look very fragile. Taking out the battery isn't something one would do all that often, still, it seems like they could have easily made it sturdier. I sent it back and canceled the service.

Very Fragile
They have really been excited approximately obtaining this telephone. But sad to say that they have really been disappointed. With the options or there is not any of the characteristics. But with durevolezza. I have obtained this telephone and in a week the screen has been fallen apart to be right in my pocket. Amazon has had service of customer large and transmitted other to me in 2 days. And the same thing is happened. They are not hard or of principle on my telephones. The best headset for a music/phone device ever
I have not received the telephone yet-totally eccit-but this is a blurb approximately the telephones of the walkman of If in a generalized manner. I have had the W600i and I LOVE the headset that If it has with their telephones of the walkman. I have read within many postings that the headset asymmetric it is with and people cannot outside calculate why the length difference - this the crazy guide and have had to unload. The reason for an extremity of the headset that it is longer is simple: the longer extremity is meant in order to go behind the neck so that the headset it hangs outside of your neck when eliminated the earbuds. I find this personally genius. I do not have to preoccuparsi in order to drag the headset when the earbuds they are disinseriti. And the earbuds! Relative the perfect one - it really measures in your ear - not as the slippery one curses that the ipods they have.


Excellent phone!!!
I had purchased this phone as an upgrade so it cost me virtually nothing. I only had to pay 15.00 for a sony brand case, and M2 memory card. The phone itself has a very sleak design, and the camera is nice. I was especially impressed by the battery life, and ergonomical feel while using it. My only pet peeve was having to disable to the internet feature directly through AT and T because I kept on hitting the internet button by accident. The buttons were a little close together but all in all it's a great deal, and amazing phone with a wide spectrum of features. Reception was amazing and it worked 95% of the places I go through: DC, VA, subway, and forest type areas.

Great phone.. a few cons.
This telephone is all that you have wished in a telephone, to observe pleasant, the free reception, not defective loudspeakers. Even if the species of the loudspeakers of the sound like the jars of latta, the ring is enough high. The duration of battery is mediocre, not defective but not fantastic neanche. The telephone seems large with the adaptation options a lot, you can even convince it in order to illuminate in on the different colors second who is calling. The keys work large and have a good tact to they. AGAINST: the caps were completely defective. I have ordered two of these telephones and both were defective. Instead of spitting outside like Y, the part that plugged within obtains approximately 4 inches and the caps one cracks outside and it gives to others 4 inches to you... and then the other cap gives some feet to you basically if used them you must have your telephone like 8 inches from your ear, than does not work. MOREOVER: this telephone does not come with the card of memory like fact publicity to on spec. of Web site of the sonys for this telephone moreover it does not have cold the blue brand of the walkman, it has stupid to watch


The best looking non-smartphone
I'm very satisfied with this phone. I think it is the best looking non-smartphone available right now. I'll just add one point here because this information is very hard to get on Amazon:

The phone has a memory card slot, but it doesn't come with any memory stick. The phone has only 12 MB built-in memory with just 8.5 MB free. You'll have to purchase M2 (Memory Stick Micro) separately if you want to transfer music or other files from your computer to the phone. So the USB data cable is useless without a memory stick.




Extremely well done
Just got my new Sony Ericsson W580i, and must I say, I am GLAD I bought it! Coming from the old 1st generation Razr, the w580i is a refreshing change. The only complaint I have (and the reluctance I had before ordering) is the 2-yr service agreement with att.
The good:
- The form factor: sleek and sturdy. Despite its thinness, it does not give any feeling of being flimsy.
- The display: I instantly fell in love with the default theme
- Excellent voice quality and stereo radio.
- I haven't checked out the video yet, but the 2MP camera is top of line for a cellphone.
- Intuitive and clean navigation. Much faster than most competitors.

The bad:
- Not really much, though the small keys can make it a bit harder to hold and dial with one hand - but thats the price you pay to have a slim device.
- The lack of locking ability for individual applications: If you don't need to access internet/ data services to keep you engaged with the device (its a cellphone after all) but keep hitting the upfront media buttons accidentally - or better still, you don't even realize you used data services for a simple looking game session on the phone - you may be surprised to see your data usage bill. I don't know if the device does not have individual locks or if AT&T disabled it. In any case, if you do not have unlimited data package and just want to avoid the pricey accidental usage, it may be a nuisance. The quick and dirty workaround I devised was to set up a new dummy data connection profile and set up the streaming and internet profiles to use the dummy data connection. The data applications are not locked as such, but they just fail to connect to internet upon launch. When needed, you just need to switch the internet profile to AT&T's mediaNet.

Overall, I couldn't have hoped to get a better phone.


Excellent slider. Great Value. Slick Design
A long-time Motorola phone user now converted. Not only is this phone lightweight and amazing looking, it's feature packed.

Pros:

- Crystal-clear calling. No static and loud when needed.
- The screen is amazing. The resolution is awesome. By far the best I've ever seen on a phone this size.
- This phone is tiny; in a good way. Super-slim and tucks nicely in your pocket. Being that it's a slider, you'll never have to worry about pocket-dialing. :)
- The software is very easy to navigate. This is nicely improved over the Motorola interface of my older RAZR.
- The MP3 player rocks; no pun intended. The Walkman software lets you sort by Artists, Albums, Tracks, Playlists and more. This is light-years ahead of the my old RAZR's MP3 player. This one rivals any standalone MP3 device I've used.
- The stereo headphones that comes with it include a 3.5mm adapter. While the included headphones sound great, this adapter gives you the flexibility to use your Bose, Shure or other stereo headphones. A very nice option.
- Carbon grey and anodized blue color is slick; nothing else like it. The back side of the phone, when in the up position, is where the anodized blue metal is. Amazon doesn't show a photo of it. It is stunning.
- Unlike "some" other sliders, the camera is protected and kept under cover when the slide is closed. This works great in keeping dust off the lens.
- The 2.0MP camera is actually pretty good. It takes great outdoor photos.
- I LOVE the fitness/step counter. It measures distance in steps and calculated miles along with the calories you've burned. It also keeps a daily average and each days results.

Cons:

- No 3G
- Sony Proprietary Memory Stick Micro M2 versus easy to find and less expensive MicroSD
- No LED Flash or Photo Light

In conclusion, if you are looking for a super-slim phone with great call quality and superb music capability, look no further. This Sony wears the Walkman name with pride.

UPDATE 9/27/07: I bought a SanDisk SDMSM2-4096-A11M 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) and it works perfectly. 4GB of music!!!
