Sony Ericsson W580i White Phone (AT&T)
Reviews:

starsThis Is The Ultimate Phone!
I will not repeat what you can read in top other than what is really, really special about this telephone above others. It is a telephone of slide block, instead of a flick, thus I can make it open on the indent of my car and it is thin to adapt in any pocket. The buttons are small, but us all naps employed to date with that. Sure it also has the video camera and it obligatory, but these is 2.0 méga-pixels which is better than the majority. It thus provides the support for the "technology of PictBridge" you can print your photographs without need for a PC, but still, 2.0 méga-pixels are good for the Internet, nonlarge built to print. It is a walkman which scrambles the songs with Juste a jolt of your wrist. With the service of "TrackID", you identify just any song which you can understand by the recording a just little song (using the microphone, as with ` Starbucks). Later, you can send the file for the identification. It gives you the right of name, artist and album to your telephone. They is fresh. You have the access by FM radio and a slit for the additional memory for the songs, PEAKS, video, etc... The buds of ear are really good quality and are attached with a microphone (for hands freely or finding this little of song). It them needs has all your accesses of Internet, navigator of sequence, email, transmission of messages, support mobile at high speed of Java and abundance of the basic plays and is compatible "Bluetooth". If you like to listen to the music while establishing, the probe of movement integrated account your stages, your calories and monitors your speed current, outdistances and time. Your results of training session are stored in your telephone thus you can supervise your progress. There is even a calendar, place for notes, an alarm, a computer, stop watch and timer! There is abundance of good free tonalities of ring and more than you can buy on line. There is more! But what I like better is this telephone has one (adjustable for the night) of the screens cleanest, clearest and most luminous available. I intentionally bought this thus I can employ my "Allen system of sports GPS" with him. It has right all but this idiotic sink of kitchen!

starsit is a ok phone
I bought this phone from Amazon for 1 penny shipped. I cannot complaint too much since it is almost free. This phone is NOT LIKE W810i. you can feel the 580i is light and not so well built. The screen is ok. the functionalities is ok. but the battery wont last more than 4 days with normal use. the M2 memory card that came with the phone is only 256mb, NOT 512mb. moreoever, the m2 is more expensive than any other memory cards. the reception of this phone is weaker than my previous V3. either the AT&T or the phone makes the phone hard to receive or to make a call. the mp3 player is good, may be this is my first mp3 player built into a phone. BTW, don't expect too many games pre-loaded. u can play those trial games for 1-2 minutes, then, it will stop the game and ask you to buy. finally, the most bothering thing is the mp3 will play automatically ever though you lock the phone. may be i shouldn't put the phone in my back pocket.

bottom line, it is a OK phone. do not expect too much from this sony phone.

starsAn overall pretty good phone!
It is for a reason for which the store of cable evaluated this telephone the second better of the year (after the iPhone, naturally): it is a really good telephone! It is my 3rd Sony Ericsson (I like their designs). Though I was very little been willing to obtain another Sony Ericsson after my last (W600i who was a total lemon) and to replace my contract with With

starspoor construction
I average over 2000 minutes a month on my phone. I returned two phones because of problems with the hardware. The first I believe was a defect but the second was because of use. The two round buttons on the phone which are used the most became loose and slipped out of disc shape.
I overlooked minor design flaws but after 4 months of use a major component should not come apart. It is a fragile phone.

starsfun, small, cute, but texting is a little unwieldy
I just got this phone about 2 weeks ago and also switched from T-mobile to AT&T.

The only problem I've had with the phone is an issue with the SIM card not going in all the way when I tried to install it. Note that it is almost impossible to remove the SIM card once you insert it. AT&T Customer Service told me to take it to a store and have the phone replaced, but I just kept trying and eventually got it to work. I discovered that I should have pushed the SIM card in more firmly than I did initially. I had to use my fingernail to push it in the thin slot. If you just tap the SIM card into the slot with your finger tip, it might not be in far enough.

I haven't used the music, walkman, or bluetooth functions yet although I plan to. I don't plan on using the camera for taking pictures. I got a Canon SD1000 for that.

The battery lasts me about 5 days and I talk maybe 2 hours or less total during that time but text a lot and leave the phone on the whole time.

I agree with some reviews about the phone being slow to use for text. I had a motorola v360 for 2 years that was super fast for sending text messages, but maybe once I transition completely, I'll get faster at it. One shortcut I learned is to just press the "up arrow" side of the circular navigation button to jump to message creation.

Also if you press and hold the back key (little backwards curving arrow), you can jump back to the 'desktop' screen.

One really nice thing is that the voice mail options for AT&T are pretty similar (identical so far) to the T-mobile ones which made it super easy for me to transition in that respect.

This phone also allows you to block any number not on a user-specified list {Settings | Profiles | | More | View And Edit | Accept Calls}. I like this so I don't waste minutes picking up calls from people not in my contact list during the day. You can save this setting to one profile (maybe "work") and not to another one (maybe "home"), so you have some flexibility if you don't care who calls you after 9 PM, for example. I could not do that with my v360 so that is a feature I appreciate on this phone.

And FYI: On the AT&T Set Up instruction sheet that Amazon packages with the phone they publish the wrong number for AT&T customer service. (it's the single page with all the info for all the different carriers) I looked it up online instead.

starsBeautiful phone with great interface, excellent all-round quality
I have the white version of this phone and I couldn't be happier. It's not a smart phone, but it performs exceptionally well on everything it's supposed to.

CALL QUALITY: This is an important aspect for me because it is a phone after all! Call quality is great. Not as good as a land line, but voices are plenty loud and very clear. I'm a little hard of hearing, and the volume is good enough for me. So long as you have a good signal (which my phone has no trouble finding), you'll be pleased.

MUSIC PLAYER: The music player is the real highlight of this phone. I was using a Creative Zen mp3 player and the sound out of my W580 is just as good. The interface is pretty simple and doesn't have as many functions as a stand-alone player, but the interface is still very intuitive and gets the job done. The included ear-buds are sound-isolating and produce excellent sound: deep base and rich, clear tones across all pitches. I installed a 4GB memory card which holds about 750 of my mp3's. With the excellent sound quality and decent storage capacity, this phone has replaced my stand-alone mp3 player.

CAMERA: It's only a 2 megapixel with no flash and autofocus, so the camera isn't as good as it could be. But it takes great pictures in good lighting. The color and sharpness of the pictures is right on, and quality is good enough for printing. Don't expect too much in poor lighting; in night mode, you have to hold your hand very still and hope your subject is also very still. The lack of autofocus makes close-ups difficult as well. But for typical use in good lighting, the camera performs admirably.

MESSAGING: Messaging is smooth and intuitive. The lack of a qwerty keyboard doesn't bother me, as the intelligent-tap system works very well. It guesses much better than the itap on the RAZR I recently used. Many users have complained about the keys cracking and splitting, but I haven't had this problem. I've only had the phone for a couple weeks, though, so maybe long-term use will reveal a problem.

DISPLAY: The display is fabulous! 320x240 resolution in only a 2" display means the screen is very smooth-looking and very easy on your eyes. Colors are vibrant and accurate.

CONSTRUCTION: The phone is very light-weight, yet still feels well constructed. The slider mechanism is smooth and solid. There is a small wobble when the phone is fully open, which has been a minor annoyance.

All-around, I'm very happy with this phone and would highly recommend it, especially if you're tired of carrying around a separate phone, camera, and mp3 player!

starsGood phone but.....
This is a really neat phone, however, the reviews claim it has excellent battery life....I did not find this the case. Compared to other phones the battery life was very short. I have to charge this phone every night. Another negative about this phone is it's not very text friendly. I would not recommend this phone for frequent texters. The key pad is cramped and the symbols are kind of hard to get to. Those are the only two negatives so far...but I've only had it for about a month.

starsExcellent technology, inferior constuction
Pros:

MP3 Player with great sound with and without earbuds, comparable to standalone mps players I own

Bluetooth built in

Internet is fast

2 Mega-Pixel camera with excellent quality photos and videos

Fitness application which counts steps, calories, and records progress

High Resolution screen

Camera protected in slider

Lots of Lights giving a cool futuristic look

Slick look in general

Shake and shuffle mode makes listening to your tunes easy and fun

Memory card allows up to 4 gb of songs

Video upload capablities

Long talk time of 9 hours

Great sound quality, the person on the other end of the phone sounds almost there

Cons:

I got mine last week and the 4 and 6 are cracked in half and the 7 is falling off also with little wear. The keys are made up of very thin plastic and crack if hit wrong; went to the AT&T store to find the store model also has cracked keys.

The keys not only break easily with minor usage but are very crammed and you will find yourself punching in more numbers then desired

The screen also isn't very well protected and very exposed which will most likely lead to future damage

The whole body and frame is made of plastic and feels cheap and flimsy

Memory card has to be a special one for sony phones only and are alot more pricey than the storage disk for competitor phones

No flash on camera

Bottom Line

If you aren't a perfectionist, texter, or cellphone gamer and are looking for a cheap phone with incredible technology and mp3 playback and don't mind if the phone is cracked up this is the phone for you. If you are one of the previously mentioned look to the new lg shine cu720 slider phone offering almost all of the same functions in a stainless steel body and keys. It may be more expensive but it is worth it. It was not in sony's best interest to produce such a top of the line phone from a technological stand point and then skimp on the materials, they should of charged a little more to make a more durable, less delicate phone.

starsI love my new Sony Ericsson W580i phone
I like my new telephone absolutely. There are thus many devices that I even did not know before I bought it. I had some problems initially to obtain the chart of SIM installed correctly, but after having called me the service with the customers of Sony obtained some good instructions and that functioned perfectly since. Each one should obtain this telephone!

starsExcellent Phone
I to have these telephone and is to him one of the best telephones than you can buy. Sony Ericsson always provided a telephone of good quality of my possible.

starsVery Nice Phone
I bought this pghone for my wife. She is just need a phone to make calls and she is very happy with it. No complicated manus etc. She don't make too many calls and the battery last for about 3 days. Very easy to load music on the phone's memory and the phone it self has OK speakers.

starsAmazing phone!!
When I got the phone, the 0 button was not working. Sent that back and got a replacement phone. I am not the most gentle person when it comes to phones. I was kind of skeptical about the slider, whether it will stand up to abuse etc.

I absolutely love it. You can play mp3 and radio(with the headset). I've had it for about 4 weeks or so and I love this phone more and more. I've always been a big fan of Sony Ericsson phones, so this might be a very biased review. But this phone IS amazing..

I was running to catch a train, forgetting that I had left the phone in my jacket pocket. And then the most unthinkable thing happened! The phone flew out of my pocket and onto the tracks right behind the train. I actually saw it hit the ground and the battery cover and battery breaking loose upon impact. I was just ready to cry right then and there. I picked up the 3 pieces, battery, cover and phone. Proceeded to put it back together and just basically praying it works. And to my amazement, it started up without a hitch.. it still slides as normal, and the phone still functions as it should. My phone has a few battle scars, but I love it even more now.

I have the white one which actually comes with a 256 mb memory. The only hitch is the Sony Memory Stick M2 micro, which is expensive and can only be used with other Sony products. Other than that, this phone is the BOMB!!

starsF***ING AWSOME
This product is just greate! I have had no problems with it, beside having to get use to different controls from my RAZR. The music playback surpasses the ipod, picture quality is superb, and the other gadgets built in it are fun to use along being useful. The headphones may be uncomfortable at first, but you will get use to it. The memory stick it comes with doesn't hold alot of music, so you may want to buy a larger one.

starsGreat Phone/MP3 Combo
I had sought the phone/mp3 right combo during completely a moment and finally arranged to this telephone after test and rejection of Nokia N75 -- no stereo bluetooth on the version of ATT, the weak life of battery. W580i is one gaining clear. Although I wrote much of this review to the telephone, I would say that a heavy texter will probably not like the small keyboard. Design: Compact form, sharp, coloured screen and vigorous slide block. Can answer calls with the closed telephone (not also N75). Do not like the flicks, desired a candybar, but this is smelled now like a better format. Completion metalic of Forgery on the great order before VOR already starting to show the plastic below. Buttons of VOR to the telephone closed are increased, texturized, and of various sizes and forms enabling me to order many devices without looking at the telephone (not also iphone). It is large for stopping/starting the player of music, finishing a call, closing out of the apps.... without looking at. The keys have a trimming interesting of click but of a number probably too small for heavy texters. Menus: Easy to employ and logic. Easy transition my 3 years old Nokia. The identification of voice is dependant of loudspeaker, but work. Do not express the dial much in any event as the majority of the calls are on the dial speed. Jump to the top the submenus are also large and always seem to be where you await them. Calls: Strong signal, aucunes falls or interference. The noise of the loudspeaker could be a little clearer, but invites the ear-phone included are excellent. MP3/Storage: It is a really nice interface and the noise is very good and includes an equalizer. It is easy to complain about the wearing of patent rights about NOISE rather than about a standard jack about ear-phone, but the earbuds included are just very well for podcasts and noncritical music listens to it. Always improve, their design of 2 shares enables you to connect your own standard ear-phones and to use the ear-phone simply included like adaptor. This design of port of NOISE is much better than Nokia one. It is easy to fit and remove but always put stays; not also Nokia. Sony includes a NOISE with the cable of data of USB, but the software included of management of music of Disk2Phone of Sony hangs up again under Vista. Fortunately synchs of telephone very well with the player of media of Windows. Maintains ways by the album and the artist automatically, but of the playlists can be only created with the telephone. The art of album obtains transferred also, but only in one nail of the very small inch (the bet there will be a levelling of software package to allow normal viewing). The other software of management of telephone functions fine just and the telephone appears bus right another order in Windows, thus have you accesses to all the music and photographs this manner too. With wasted all the PEAKS of kid in my small pocket and just copied the jpg with the telephone. JUMP to the doubles of USB like a charger available of telephone. Memory of m2: ouais, another format of patent rights of memory of Sony. You do not worry, available good market above the net with an adaptor to allow the use in any modern reader of chart of memory. 2GB functions the fine right. I hear that 4gb is outside now. Do not fit and removes the recreation very, and the cover of chart feels fragile. Who worries, use right that the data included cable and leave the memory alone. Photographs: Defect of the sound reproduction, nonbad, but not why I bought the telephone. No flash, motionless slope obtain the buzz to function. Web: afflicted the latter did not employ. Other: Apps nice of physical form, plus the usual computer, stop watch, calendar... It is all here. Synching tested by stripped with prospects or analogues. Life of battery: Excel. The music of play, make calls, photographs of catch, never exhaust more than one 1/3 of the battery in day. Myths: Cover of battery hard to remove? Not for me. Slip a nail of the inch into the slit, noise in addition to cover. Splitting keys -- perhaps, but nonsure how much abuse you must throw to them to do this to occur. Synopsis: Need large telephones and heavy player of music without texting. It is him.

starsReturned them and bought Motorola phones instead.
Bought two of these phones for a family plan. Call quality was terrible on both (in the city of Chicago!). Lots of dropped calls, static, etc. Phone is cheap plastic (our new Motorola Razr and Krzr phones have metal housings, very nice). Typical Sony poor build quality. While trying to get the battery cover off of one of them, I ended up accidentally popping off the Sony Ericsson logo which was glued to the cover! I'd like to see anyone remove an Apple logo from an iPhone. Based on forums I've seen, I'm not the only one who had trouble with this.

The user interface is mediocre, meaning it's typical for a cell phone. One highly annoying problem is that I couldn't see the time on the main screen because of the color of the font blends in with the wallpaper pattern. And Sony only provides two themes, which do not appear to have any way of setting the font color. The only solution is to customize the wallpaper with a picture that doesn't blend with the font color.

Oh, and to listen to headphone using the so called "Walkman" feature? You have to use a special Sony adapter (included in the box) with plugs into the charging port, then plug the headphones into that. Now, this is the same as my KRZR, EXCEPT, the Sony adapter is this huge bulbous thing that sticks out of the side of the phone. Terrible ergonomics. It's readily apparent how Sony lost to the iPod just by looking at these terrible design decisions. I could just picture a product designer at Apple handing a design like this to Steve Jobs, telling him this is the new version of an iPod or iPhone. They'd be in surgery about an hour later trying to get the thing extracted from various body cavities.

I'm glad these phones are out of our lives. My wife hated them as much as I did.

starsnice and cool
It's the first time that I tried a slider from Sony Ericsson. Cool design, bright color, small size and light weight. Looks good and feels well - like it a lot!

The only thing is that even though I chose "open to answer", calls are picked up or go out unintentionally when the outside button is touched by stuff in the pocket/handbag. It is annoying still. Other than that, great phone!

starsQuestion
Has anyone with an AT&T family plan been able to get a w580i off amazon via a renewal?

starsphone konked off......do not buy please
comment: Dec 31, 07

The phone started giving me error..."insert smartchip" and keeps switching itself off frequently. I tried calling ATT and they tell me that since 30 days have passed, I can get a refurbished phone as a replacement. What a bunch of crap.......daylight robbery...do not buy ATT products or service.

I travel a lot through NH remote areas, I am now losing signal more often than when I had my old nokia 6230. I think I may go back to it.

The microphone of this phone is too sensitive, in my car when I am speaking, people can hear the road noise/wind noise which they did not when I had my nokia.

The interface is very cumbersome. You have to press a lot of buttons to get small tasks done.

----------------------------------------------------------

I purchased this because it has the most features for the price range. I do not use phone for internet, music purchase..etc at least not yet, so I do not need a 3g phone or a PDA phone. If you remove those two aspects, this phone has everything else and free if you are new to AT$$$T .

Quad band, 2MP camera, media player, expandable memory, FM RADIO WITH RDS and bluetooth A2DP.

I recieved this yesterday havent used it much but here are the highlights

Pro's

--Brilliant screen
--love the walkman feature and pedometer. When you switch pedometer, it actually shows a tiny icon with the # of steps in one corner of main screen all the time
--can use as a removable drive with supplied USB cable
--comes with a proprietary headphone, but has an adapter for 3.5mm
--good voice quality and speakerphone.
--has fm with RDS. Only other phone to have it is a nokia 6555, but that one only has 1.3m camera
--sound quality is good for a phone

cons
--not really white color, it is silverish-white...so no OHH and AHH's
--phone can get accidentally unlocked and dial #'s and use mediaNET. U have to create a dummy internet provider to avoid data usage charges..thanks to the other reviewer, this is the first thing I did without even testing if it happens.
--phone switches off suddenly and randomly when you open and close the slider
--Battery door of WHITE phone is difficult to open because it does not have a non-slip backing.
-- ONLY WHITE MODEL HAS 256Mb ms micro card included, you will pay $[...] extra for a 2GB MS compared to a 2GB SD card, factor that into costs.
-- no flash for camera.

If 3g is important, Nokia 6555 is a good option but compromise with camera..as if that makes much difference.

starsSo far, so good!
Ok, I bought the white telephone. I must say that... it is more than one shell of egg, equal not very gray, but not white. Oh well, I can live with that. Key points - great reception - none problems low visual quality up to now - excellent quality of image - - principal trimming little too small - hand will restrict. I now employ my left hand and problem solved. - the light weight - no lamp-torch on this one, but very luminous screen - chart of standard deviation is minis - however comes with an adaptor - it has a physical section of form in the organizer. It counts your stages! - Poor/Average? life of battery - perhaps you will have to charge it each day... which is normal.

starsGreat phone...when it works
I loved this phone--for the first month. The sound quality was great, the design was creative and fun, and the features were useful.

And then, one day, it wouldn't power up at all. I tried every troubleshooting option listed on the Sony Ericsson website, including charging up the phone, removing the battery, and cleaning the battery connections. No luck.

I then spent two hours on the phone with AT&T. I was told that because I bought the phone through Amazon, I had to return it through them. However, Amazon's return policy was only valid for a month. So I went back to AT&T, and four phone calls later, they agreed to accept a return the phone. (The number to call is 800-801-1101 if you find yourself in the same situation.) There are a couple of catches, of course. First, I have to pay $12 for 2-day shipping or wait a week to receive the phone with free shipping. Secondly, they can't guarantee me a new phone. The replacement will likely be "reconditioned." I extended my contract for two years for a USED phone? I'm not pleased at all.

In the meantime, I bought a $20 GoPhone and put my old SIMS card in it. Sadly, a $20 phone is working better than a $400 phone.

When the Sony Ericsson works great, it's fantastic. But AT&T's return/warranty policy is disappointing. I paid $0.01 for this phone. I obviously got what I paid for.

starsPlease do read my review: don't buy it!
I just bought this phone today - Nov 11, 2007. I think I made a bad decision. I bought it simply when we opened up the family plan, my wife got one. So I thought it will be easier for us to get two same phones. So all below is just my first impression.

1) I already have an iPod which I'm going to use for some time in the future and won't drop. The music playing features and function can compete against an iPod any kind.

2) The menu options and the console to control is just ok. Navigating isn't hard but just ok. The graphics look so so - like a very crapy phone I used a while back - maybe this is just my personal reason.

3) The handsfree and headset is one thing but without the clip is very easy to fell off from the ears because the weight of the mic.

4) Since it's a Sony - so memory chip is M2 with an memory stick adapter. I personally like Secure Digital better because of my computers, my cameras, etc.

5) You don't have viberation alarm! You can set the profile to use "in-meeting" mode but alarm sound still rings up in this mode. This is one of my most unacceptable.

I haven't made calls or receive calls much yet. So I have not found any pros or cons on this. In general, for those won't use the music features and functions much of this phone but just the voice (btw, text messaging and email etc probably won't be impressive either because of the tiny keypad). Back on this: the touch and the feel of the phone/keys etc seems cheap - I like the feel of Motorola RAZR V3 I was using better.

I may make a personal bad decision - but for those who may ended up using the phone like my situation. I don't suggest you to buy. If you are really crazy about the music, get an iPod or iPhone!

starsSmall, dainty, NOT white
I had the telephone for below during 30 days now. I doubt that this review is much of assistance. I like all about this telephone except: It is difficult to take off cover of battery. I found employing the point of an opener of letter to try to raise it open. If you take it in addition to each other day, it becomes easier! Make confiancemoi, it really! You will need also a long nail or a thin chart (C-with-D., allowed of driver or chart of credit rating) to insert the chart of SIM or the chart of m2 in place. The life of battery is struck or misses. At the beginning, that took only approximately 3 days until I had to reload the telephone. I blame this on my curiosity to test any outside. To make your end of battery longer, stop the twinkling lights, bring back the back-light to 50%, and stop the screensaver. Now, I have approximately 5-6 days on a simple load. My telephone is not white like which Amazon or any other Web site known as. According to the light, it is kind of silverish/whitish. But I am not... looove complaining about I the color. Compared with my old telephone of RAZR, this telephone is tasty. With the telephone closed itself, it adjustments in the palm of my hand. Some look at me funny when I speak with the telephone. WHY this type speak does in its hand? : -) the jack of ear-phone is a little cumbersome, if you try to put it in your pocket. I wish that you could just insert the jack of ear-phone as you see on Ipods. Nonsure, if no matter who differently could have this problem, but me found the expenses of telephone faster on the jack of wall - NOT the jack of USB with the PC. On the jack of wall, that takes 2 or 3 hours with the load. On the jack of USB, that took almost 7 hours with the load, but only charged until approximately to 95% (it was time to go to the house of work!). ... and one thing I seek... something with a case where you can carry it on your arm and actuate the keys while establishing! ENORMOUS improvement of the RAZR.

starsForget iPhone, this one is GREAT
I wanted to buy the iPhone but the payment of $399 the iPhone too is. Instead of that I bought this one at the Amazon for $0.01. This telephone has the good mp3 player, good quality of call, camera (you can record it video, with the iPhone that you cannot). Aucunes felt sorry for some...

starsgreat phone!!!
I have been getting so many compliments since I received the phone. Crisp display, photo quality is good except the phone camera doesn't have a zoom feature. I guess it's fine since it's a phone, not a real camera.

starsW580i Slick phone with a few problems
When I obtained the first time the telephone I was astounded with the types of things which I could make with him. The telephone feels heavier than I thought him, but the weight is balanced in your hand so open or is closed. Because of others criticize indicated, this telephone more one is silver plated light that the pure white. The reason this telephone obtains a surplus 4 that of the 5 must make with With

starsWhite phone vs. Black/Gray Phone
Love this phone! The sound is clear, the pictures (outside of course) are great, and the fact that the white one comes with a memory card and adapter is wonderful. I only purchased the white one b/c my husband ordered the grey one! I didn't read far enough to see that the White one had the memory card! What a bonus...

starsNeat little package.
First of all, phone is light grey and NOT white. I like the slider phone better than a flip phone. Much easier to use with one hand. And it's my first camera phone so have really enjoyed that feature. Haven't had time to read up on the walkman feature yet but am excited about downloading music. Highly recommend this phone.

starsdownloading
When I first got this phone a week ago I loved it and was just what I wanted. Now a week later after listening to my downloaded music and my downloaded games (I bought from AT&T) and all of my pictures were all erased. I called AT&T and they contacted Sony and found that it is a problem with the phone. I got a new one now but I'm afraid to take any pictures or do anything with it except return it for my money back. I'm still unsure what to do yet.

starsCool LOOKING phone, okay features
I only gave to this telephone of the 4, because they did not have 3 1/2... thus I rounded upwards. But now I wish that I only give him of the 3. At all events: I had Sony Ericsson front, and my the older was better waaayy. The only thing which seems different about this telephone is that it is a little prettier, and it is thinner than my w600i than I had. It feels the kind of fragile and cheap. The quality of image satisfies completely however but only during the day or when there is much light. There is not a flash, which also sucks. And even for my SMALL fingers, the blocks of keys really SUCK. Thus for you the texters, like me, look some share of other or obtain a different walkman. Moreover, maintaining the company regulates what you can employ as a your ringtone, thus even if you transfer your own music in the telephone and want to employ these songs as a your ringtone instead of the small tonalities which come with the telephone, you cannot in measurement with because of the new "payments." With my old man 600i, I could employ my songs like ringtones perfectly fine. Now, if you want to employ your own songs like ringtones, you should modify them and cut them to the bottom at approximately 30 seconds. Then they would function perfectly very well. But for now, I am wedged with these brilliant songs or to download them ($$). moreover, some had said that the telephone does not close with key and that it is a problem because the button of Internet is on the face very before telephone. However, it closes with key of one or the other two manners: automatically when you slip it behind swallow in the place, or on the small black button on the top of the telephone once can press you (which is also used to turn it "Marche/Arrêt") in order to obtain an option to close your telephone. On the whole, make sure just that your telephone is locked before you put it in your pockets or where never put it to you. Otherwise, you will pay a heavy invoice the accidental use of Internet, unless you have a plan of media. Otherwise, it is pretty and thin telephone, and jolt orders it is nice. The white is not white "pure" however. It is more than one pearl, white silver plated... still nice however. The company also included requests of "active" people also, like a pedometer, etc..... Summarizing, the devices are pretty more or less even as preceding walkmans. Nothing of nine, not much of difference, except in glances.

starsVery Happy With This Phone
Even though this phone received good reviews on CNET and elsewhere, I must admit being hesitant to get a slider phone. I was afraid I would accidentally being making calls or snapping pictures from my purse as I had done with a bar phone. I decided to give it a try though, and I am very happy with it. As a phone, it functions great with clear calls, long battery life, etc. However, it has some additional features that I found very useful.

What I like:
*Automatic key lock option - Turn this on, and you don't have to worry about accidentally calling anyone. All the outside buttons are 'locked' or protected until you touch two buttons. However, answering a call still functions as normal without pushing any extra buttons, and if you slide the phone open, you don't have unlock it either.
*Programmable outside buttons - You can program 4 outside buttons as 'shortcuts'. I have one set to toggle my bluetooth on and off, one to go to my phone directory, one to go the camera, and one to my files. Very handy!
*Synchronization - The supplied cable makes synchronization with outlook and transferring music a breeze! Download the PC Ericsson phone suite from their website. However, you can also tranfer via bluetooth and even by using your memory stick with the supplied adapter and Windows Explorer.
*Presentation Remote - If you have bluetooth, you can use this phone as a presentation remote from Power Point, or navigate your desktop/media center from afar.
*Pedometer/fitness trainer - Like it! Lets you keep a past history of your walking/running for the day.
*Walkman feature - Love it! I upgraded my memory to 2 gb first thing.
*Ringtones - Short MP3 files can be used as ringtones. You can also use the MusicDJ to make your own or even use the 'recorder' and save what you record as a ringtone.
*FM radio - another plus
*Password saver - This in an password protected area where you can save passwords or other sensitive information you want access to, but not have to worry if you lose your phone.
*Notes - You can synch Notes from Outlook, but you can also select a note to show in 'standby'. I've used this to keep an address handy or a train schedule.
*Screen - Very bright and clear. (I've even used it as a 'flashlight' at night to find my keys.) I did put on screen protector though to help prevent the inevitable scratches.

What I don't like:
*Battery cover very hard to put on or take off.
*Memory cover seems very flimsy - As though it would easily break.
*Lanyard holes - So small, I couldn't get any of any lanyards to thread through it.

What I wish it had:
*3G
*Ability to play audio books (and bookmark your place)
*Enhanced video playback capabilities
*Ability to show your calendar for the day in standby.

starsPenny for Your Phone?
I purchased this phone with the AT&T plan. This was a good bargin, and I got a great phone out of it.

The first time I recieved the phone it had a bad speaker on the phone itself. When talking on the phone, peoples voices were muffled and unclear.

Amazon was quick to help me replace this bad phone at no charge to me.

The phone is great, once everything is programmed in, you rarley have to slide the phone open. Probably the best thing about the phone is that it came with a USB cable to aid in file transfers.

After 2 weeks of use, everything is still functioning like new.

**Update 11-20-2007**

After four weeks of using the phone, the speaker once again had the same issue. The speaker started buzzing again.

After spending a week trying to deal with Amazon, I called AT&T about a replacement. They weren't helpful this time, and told me I was SOL with the broken phone for the remainder of my contract. So now I had a broken phone and a year and a half on the contract.

Upon talking to some people I called AT&T back and talked to their warrenty and return department. They promptly replaced my phone.

So now I'm on my third phone, just waiting for it to die.

AT&T will replace the phone if its broken up to one year. After that, if I'm still having problems, I'll just get a GoPhone.

starsAnd now for the CONS
I can spend a certain hour on FOR, but most of the time, if no matter who is like me, they want to know that with the Juste what that is it does not live until what is posted. Most of the time, I cannot believe the talktime evaluated against the real talktime in the practical experiment. 9 hours evaluated. Now, I did not speak until the telephone died. Ni have to me A just lit and spoke after a full load to have an idea of how long I COULD be able to speak. But I can say approximately 45 - 60 minutes of maintenance and 3 day time of resource put the battery in 50 % of range. Which wire I to believe that the telephone will obtain no where nearly 9 a.m. time speaks on a simple load. (I realize that these estimates are under the best conditions as examined by the manufacturer... and the usual rounding to the top of but if no matter who obtains 5 hours of maintenance out of him, announce a message about it) the Nombrables messages on forum about splitting block of keys. Make a research and make your own decision. I learned from it after I bought it. It is the first telephone of slide block which I have and whereas it is not necessarily a SWINDLER in the truest direction of the word (C-with-D., announced like however does not make a thing funciton as announced), one must understand that the screen is exposed all the hour. That of the means, most likely, of the scratches and the burs will become the principal support of this screen... that I bought it knowing that but others would owe the knowledge. Moreover, because it is a telephone of slide block, more buttons are exposed and available to the pressure by accident that a telephone of flick. While composing, one must (duh) slip open the telephone. The keys ignite. But, if you are wedged in the hell of menu of voice mail and must wait to see until which key to be tightened, you had to be better in a lit sector... than the principal lights rather quickly and then go to far it is completely difficult to see them. In conclusion, if you like the idea of the small nice twinkling lights one can choose, you should know in advance that the 10 (or 15 are it) or thus the choices one of lighting must choose of in addition to menu are completely similar. In fact, some choices of menu look at exactly the same thing (just a different name). Thus, there is not as much variety which you could in the beginning think. Otherwise, the majority of differently than I employed answered or exceeded with my hopes and hopes. I give him 4 - holds the first role even with what I enumerated.

starsI think the color is ""silver"" not the white color as they show....
I do not think that the color is "white" after I obtained this telephone... its more close to the "silver plated" color I think... I have to wait my house all the day... but I am really disturbed because this telephone is not the color which I want.... it is "money"......

starsVERY GOOD PHONE BUT .........
The telephone is overall good for a user... but of avg few things which I think am not well... before you buy remember just these things.... I mention it against only.... Against: - no Internet 3G... - the position of the button of Internet is bad and U can strike it any time... and you cannot "off" the Internet... [call the att countermand the service of Internet if U want ] - the battery or the simcard changing is scary(if that you frequently do it) while the back cover is made in motorazr different from cheap plastic.... - the stick of patent rights of memory of Sony micro m2 against easy to find and less expensive MicroSD - no light of instantaneous or photograph of LED - att-cingular wasted so many things - U can download the ur "clean" of manufacturer of ringtone software..20sec/550kb will not allow him to employ (unless the alarm)[anyone has any idea how to fix this problem??... may debranding is the only option ] - the life of battery is not with went good as they said but always well for the user of avg... if U have the good signal - the buttons are very small, U must "used" to him particularly so standard the fates of U of sms of the texts.... I must say that feeling this fone(check any local store) before you buy... no the order choice simply on line... now is urs....

starsLovin' this phone!
So far so good.... I got the phone the other day and I couldn't be happier. It looks good and sounds great! It is slick and just really fun to play with. I changed cell carriers and I am really happy with AT&T now. THe only thing that I have to get used to is the small number keys. I think the reviews before me (at least 2 of them) sum up the functions of the phone. I have had no problem playing music. I downloaded some MP3's onto my memory stick and all is working well. I even listen to the FM tuner, it's fantastic. I am REALLY happy with this phone.

starsExcellent Music Phone !
I have had this phone for one week now and it is great! About 1 year ago, I was looking for a phone with a music player and not having to buy an mp3 player or ipod so i decided to buy the Samsung SGH-d807. The samsung is far from being a music phone, especially with the low quality OEM Samsung headphones ! USB music tranfer is slow, (about 25sec per song) and most of the time it woudn't let me transfer songs ! ( i ended up buying an ipod shuffle just to listen music on the go )

In the other hand, the unbeliavable Sony Ericsson w580i and its 2.0 USB cable lets me "drag and drop music, pictures, vidoes..!" straight from my computer to the phone with no hassle ! Transfer speed is about 10sec per song.
- Headphones sound REALLY GOOD, in my opinion.. they sound better than my ipod.
- My phone included a 256mb memory stick M2, but i recommend getting a 1gb or 2gb.
- This phone sends standard messages in one second and multimedia messages in about 3-5sec.
- The cool thing about the Walkman on this phone is that while you are listening to music, you can minimize the music player and use your phone without having interrupt your song. When you recieve a call or text, your music will fade and then resume when you are done. No need to push stop and play.
- The battery last a loong time, 9hours talk time, 14days in standby and 20hours in Walkman mode. The battery will drain a little faster if you play your music straight from your folder, so it is best to use the Wlakman when ever you play your music and save power.
- From my experience, Sony Ericsson phones have excellent reception and call quality (phone or speaker). The other line can hear you loud and clear just as they would from a regular house phone. (There is an option in "Settings" where your number is automatically blocked on every call you make without having to dial *67 before making a call, wich is great for your privacy. )
- 2.0 mega pixel camera is awsome ! Cristal clear pictures every time, whether you are taking a picture in 2mp, 1mp or vga format. (Note: you can only zoom in when you are in VGA mode, and your pictures still come out very good !
- The nuber pad on this phone is a bit small. I personally have big hands and dial / text with no problem. The keys can break easily if mistreated.
- Phone has very good graphics, so you will always enjoy viewing your picture and playing games with little loading time. Speaker is LOUD ! . . Fast Internet, just as fast as 3g phones !

VERY GOOD PHONE OVER ALL.

starsExcellent slider. Great Value. Slick Design
A long-time Motorola phone user now converted. Not only is this phone lightweight and amazing looking, it's feature packed.

Pros:

- Crystal-clear calling. No static and loud when needed.
- The screen is amazing. The resolution is awesome. By far the best I've ever seen on a phone this size.
- This phone is tiny; in a good way. Super-slim and tucks nicely in your pocket. Being that it's a slider, you'll never have to worry about pocket-dialing. :)
- The software is very easy to navigate. This is nicely improved over the Motorola interface of my older RAZR.
- The MP3 player rocks; no pun intended. The Walkman software lets you sort by Artists, Albums, Tracks, Playlists and more. This is light-years ahead of the my old RAZR's MP3 player. This one rivals any standalone MP3 device I've used.
- The stereo headphones that comes with it include a 3.5mm adapter. While the included headphones sound great, this adapter gives you the flexibility to use your Bose, Shure or other stereo headphones. A very nice option.
- Unlike "some" other sliders, the camera is protected and kept under cover when the slide is closed. This works great in keeping dust off the lens.
- The 2.0MP camera is actually pretty good. It takes great outdoor photos.
- I LOVE the fitness/step counter. It measures distance in steps and calculated miles along with the calories you've burned. It also keeps a daily average and each days results.

Cons:

- No 3G
- Sony Proprietary Memory Stick Micro M2 versus easy to find and less expensive MicroSD
- No LED Flash or Photo Light

In conclusion, if you are looking for a super-slim phone with great call quality and superb music capability, look no further. This Sony wears the Walkman name with pride.

UPDATE 9/27/07: I bought a SanDisk SDMSM2-4096-A11M 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) and it works perfectly. 4GB of music!!!
