starsCooler than a Dick Tracy wristwatch! : - )
OK, I am an old wax! I grew with gramophones, bands 8-track, rotatory telephones of dial and B

starsGreat iPod Alternative
I often wondered what is the major problem with finding an alternative decent to the iPod. I had employed products of iRiver during years, but they seem to have been mislaid. Sony seemed like a bellyband of pipe wire to avoid the monopoly of iPod, but curiously they did not seem that not interested up to now. I did not need another device MP3, but I was in the best purchase checking the actions and saw this tiny Sony and decided to give him a projectile. With my iRiver I had charged something like 400 of my CDs favourite on their device of 20 gigaoctets and am never smelled to me like changing them. It was useful to me very well during years. The problem was me would download chooses and of newer songs than I never seemed to listen. I needed something which would handle 400 approximately songs which would last me one month or thus with staples with the daily use of room of gymnastics. This device of Sony was so small and a so nice point has price (around $130 if I remember correctly) that I decided to take an insect on top. Sony is a mark which I made confidence during many years. I am happy I. There is no case carrying or other accessories to my knowledge in date of still, but it is a large machine. Relatively easy to charge, it seems large. I threw even the telephones and bought in the air an adjusted radio of $100 Logitech and it seems always large. The product of Logitech is really designed for the iPod, but that always functions very well with this tiny device. The person who complained about volume could be on something, but although I would be a great type of volume myself it is not that large of a business for me. It would not astonish me if this person were little a deaf person honestly. The only thing which désinsectise is to me thus a minor it is laughable. On posting your can see the way, the drawing-model of song, CD which it comes from, the artist and the kind. Below it is another icon, seemingly for data of a certain kind which appears as an unknown in my point of right for each song. I would like to remove that of my sight to make more part for the drawing-model. At all events, it is a very nice business and seems pretty goods. If all is well Sony will make a whole out of the load against the marketshare of the iPod and we can all profit. I would still buy this in a second. If all is well they continue to make players MP3 of more than capacity and accessories. The life of battery is enormous. Hope that this helps put somebody above the top if they are on the barrier. I am impressed.

starsBEST MP3 PLAYER I HAVE OWNED. SOUND IS OUTSTANDING.
This is by far the best mp3 player I have ever owned. The sound is great and the drag and drop feature is flawless. No lag time when you search through the menu. Battery life is great also.

starsJust AWESOME, get one!
after several sansas, "it pink" Sony with the ear-phones of cancellation but with terrible SonicStage is one, this until I waited! ! ! ! there is abundance of others criticize out there of that enumerated all the devices thus I am not to go to repeat the obvious one. I will say this however, that months to seek a perfect player mp3 afterwards, I can finally say that I found my treasure which quality is exceptional! good Sony work, now I can listen to my mp3s without horror of sonicstage.

starsWithout question the finest mp3 player I've ever owned...
While the title makes clearly, it is, without shade of a doubt, the best player mp3 whom I ever had, and it can spout out is best the $100 (model 2GB (A815)) I ever spent. Is not only audio quality far, much higher (simply in a league of its clean... you can really hear frequencies below 100 hz/above 5 kilocycles) that creative or particularly Sansa (nothing but deformation on any acceptable level of the triple or low egalization with the last), but only the quality of construction should encourage you to include/understand why it costs more than its competitors. Like you, I am have feed-towards the top with the players of refuse which A). work for six months, then die for any particular reason; B). correctly never work, by having DRM publishes (see: Sansa), noise-quality publishes (see: Sansa and creator (deformation and no triple, respectively)), resulting from congelation (see: Sansa and creator (at least creative a button of hard-handing-over gives you)), etc (the list goes indefinitely); C). With and B. The solution? Sony! Sony always was in the forefront of the technology of the world in terms of quality and innovation of build/AV (usually too far ahead (Diskette, UMD, SACD, Blue-Ray)), and this product succeeds with mention with the two categories; there is simply no comparison. If you are disgusted players of the refuse mp3 (and iFollow), give to Sony a projectile; spend of the additional expenses and obtain a product which the marks you want to employ them!

starsExcellent Sound Quality
Have had this player for a few days now and I'm impressed. I also own a Creative Zen, which has its own positives but here's what put this Sony over the top for me-

* Excellent sound quality. The earphones make a huge difference.
* Ease of drag-and-drop music transfer from my computer.
* Excellent battery life. Seems like even heavy use all day makes no dent in battery life. Rated for 33 hours on one charge. I would say that's about right.
* Solid construction, feel and tactile feedback. I could operate it without looking at it on the second day.

I don't miss having a FM radio or voice recorder. My local FM stations are lousy anyway and I can use my cell phone for voice memos. Sony has hit bullseye with this Walkman.

starsSo far, so good.
I had this unit during approximately 3 weeks now and, up to now, I am impressed enough. The quality of sound is excellent. I even dropped a couple from the periods on asphalt while pulsating and did not have any problem. That brings to me to that on the inclined side, however. I wish that there be more accessories available like an arm-band to be used all while being exerted. It is a new unit thus I am sure that the substance will come.

starsIPOD Beater
I made research and judged all newest players MP3. My friends required that I obtain a IPOD. This beat of device the IPOD. It is noise cheaper and better, comes with large telephones from ear and is easier to employ. I prefer the material of Sony to the disc of APPLE on the IPOD if you obtain this player, will not be disappointed you. It syncs seamlessly with the player of media of Windows. 25 hours of battery and compatible with all the formats. One gaining

starsGreat sound, great build quality, great menu.
I am attached to my laptop all day long at work so I never justified myself to get a nice MP3 player (I do own a cheap player for mowing the lawn). Why do I need one? But I decided to get myself a gadget to start 2008. After reading many reviews I landed on this A816. Part of the reason is that "Walkman" name.

The previous reviews were right! The build quality is great, it fits nicely in my palm and the controls are solid yet easy to use. I removed all the music and movie files that came with the player immediately and loaded my own ones so I have a fair judgment. The moment I put up the earphones that came with it, man I am SO happy that I get this player! Although Windows Media Player on my laptop offers a lot of options, the sound quality coming out of my company-issued Dell just can't match this little player. And I spent a lot of money getting the high end headphones in search for great sound. This walkman gives great sound reproduction at low volume (I don't normally go beyond 10) which is awesome. The included earphone totally surprised me, it is one of the best earphones I've ever tried.

The intelligent shuffle function is handy. It somehow knows how to create a play list out of my classical, pop, heavy metal, and jazz genre and arrange them as if playing from just one album. By turning on the dynamic volume normalizer it makes listening even more enjoyable at the same volume level.

The downside of this player? Maybe a FM tuner would be nice but that doesn't bother me. I do have one complaint, though, you can't listen to the music when it is connected to the computer. I WANT MY MUSIC, NOW! Luckily, it recharges fairly quickly.

All in all, this is a great MP3 player that you'll want to listen to all day long.

starsWARNING!! Don't Buy If You Like Your Music Loud
All the reviews for this player are somewhat true. The player does have some great features such as a great display, long battery life, and easy uploading options. However, the NWZ-A816 has a major flaw, it's NOT Loud Enough. After unsuccessfully searching the internet and calling Sony's customer service for a solution, I have decided to return the player to the store. For those who think I didn't disable AVLS(volume limit), I did. I also messed around with the equalizer, sound enhancer, and ensured my songs where of the best quality. After wasting hours trying to solve this problem, the A816 still lacks the earsplitting sound I am accustom to. Who is Sony to limit my volume? If I want to go deaf or get tendinitis that is my choice.Although the A816's has some great features, Sony's decision to not allow one to jam, negates them all. It is for this reason and this reason alone that I give the A816 two stars. I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to my dependable and thunderous Sansa for trying to replace her.

stars5 Star Sound
I wanted to give this Player a 5 Star Rating because it sounds so good right out of the box. You don't have to upgrade the headphones as you do with many other players. The included earbuds sound great and almost made me take my V-Moda Vibes back to Costco, but the Sony's have a slightly different sound ( little more bass) , and they are a little bigger than the Vibes.

I read a lot of reviews at different websites and I thought many of the reviewers were just blowing smoke, or the retailers were just publishing the positive reviews. Many of the reviewers said this was their first player, so I figured what heck do they know about MP3 players. So after I got mine, I loaded 51 of my favorite songs and proceeded to listen via my V-Moda Vibes Earbuds.

I also went back and listened to my Sony mini disc player just to compare the sound and have a reference point.

All I can say is wow, what an experience. I wanted to put the unit down after about 2 hours of listening and go to sleep, but I couldn't. I listened to all 51 songs ( some multiple times) until 3:00 am, the day after Christmas. I heard new detail and clarity that I had not heard before, and even at low volume. I just got lost in the music and forgot I was listening to an MP3 player. Incredible Sound and dead silence in between songs,no hiss or digital artifiacts creeping into the sound.

It reminded me of the first time I heard a Professional Series Casette Walkman ( About $ 400.00) back in the 80s.

The volume range on the player is 0 - 30. I found that 10 is very comfortable, and the sound is even good at lower levels, which with most of my other players, is not the case.

The player has 5 Pre Set EQ Settings and 2 Custom Setting ( great for different users, or different headsets if you use a different set for working out,vs general listening)

It also has some other sound processing settings that compensate for some of the differences in bitrates rates on the MP3 files. It has a feature called DSEE ( Digital Sound Enhancement ?) that almost sounds like cross between BBE processing and DBX Processing. It would not surprise me it was either or. It also has built in Surround Sound Options ( I am assuming for the Videos) ,Sound Normalizer and Clear Sound. They all do something so you have to experiment with settings to get the sound you prefer. The good thing is when you scroll over a setting, the player changes the sound to let you preview that setting before you actually select and keep the setting. My initial listening was with the default factory settings and I was very happy with the sound, but I have now made adjustments to compensate for the headphones I use.

There have been some complaints from other reviewers about the length of the headphone cord even with the extension cord. I agree, it is shorter than most cords, but there is an upside to the length that I only noticed today. If you are excercising or working in the yard with these earbuds, you don't have to worry about getting the cord tangled or snagging on something because the cord stays close to your body. There are times when I wish it was about 3 inches longer, mainly when walking. Since there is no belt clip, the player has to go in the pocket for now.

Now back to the player itself. It is easier to navigate than the 600 series. ( I have both). The click wheel on the 800 series is more tactile than the controls on the 600 series players and doesn't require as much thumb movement. I have never used an Apple Ipod, but most people talk about the click wheel on the Ipod and how easy it is to use, I can't imagine anything much easier than this Sony player's click wheel, and I have used a ton players, other than Ipod.

This the fastest and most reponsive player I have used. I have many others, but they all have that awful boot time before you actually can play music. The Creative Zens will start fast if it's not a complete cold start, but this player will start about 5 seconds after you hit any key from a cold start, and faster after you have been using it, and power it off for moment. I you advance to new track , it is quicker than most of my other players. (It takes about 15 seconds for my Zen Micro to start cold and about 20 secs for the IRiver HD 320.)

It sync's really fast using Media Player 11, and also allows you to drag and drop music which is big shift for Sony digital music players.
Displays Album Art and file details. I did not have any lock ups or freezes when trying to sync the player. The paperwork included with player says there is a a firmware upgrade availalbe now, but I see no need for it, but if you buy music online, you might want the firmware upgrade.

The player displays Photos and Videos and I have used both features. You can view photos and listen to music at the same time.
This easiet way to get the photos on the player is to Drag and Drop them into photo folder via Windows Explorer.

I also moved a couple of videos to the player. This is not easiet process unless you just happen to have a lot Mp4 Vidieo Files stored. I used a program that I use with my PSP to convert video formats to whatever format you need. Once you get the video on the unit, it is crytal clear, although with a screen this small you probably wouldn't want to watch full lenght movies on it. I din't buy this player to view videos or view photos, but it is a nice option.

The build quality of this player is awesome and almost makes you want to treat it like a fine piece of jewelry. Therein lies another problem, there are not many accessories including cases for this player, so remember that if you buy this player. I am currently using the little case that came with my V-Moda Earbuds. If I didn't say it before, this is a really small player. Another reveiwer commented that she almost took it back because it was "so tiny", but ultimately kept it because it sounded so good. Even after reading those comments, I was surprised at how small it was when I opened the box.

This player is small enough to fit in the coin pocket of most mens pants which is where I have it most of the time, but I am also afraid of damaging it so I will be ordering the case from Sony, which is the only case I have seen available so far.

The player does not have a power light to let you know that it is on, but uses a fade in / fade out clock calendar display that you see every few seconds. (In order to save battery power, there may be a way to disable that feature in the menu)

There are only four things I don't like about this player, but I knew about 3 of them before I bought the unit so I can't be too hard on Sony.

1.) Proprietary Cable for Charging Battery and Connection to PC - I have an idea why they did this and I hope I am wrong. If they did it to make you buy cables from them, that is short sighted. That just creates ill will with consumers, and it won't be long before counterfit cables or cheap cables show up Ebay.
2.) Lack of Accessories ( Cases)- This may change as the Sony units becomes more popular. I tried some of the Ipod Nano Cases and while they will protect the player, they make it hard to use.
3.) No FM Tuner ( the 600 series has the Tuner) - The 600 series players offer the FM Tuner, costs less money, sounds just as good. Not sure what Sony was thinking here.
4.) Headphone Jack on the bottom of unit. I wasn't expecting this, even the Sony 600s series players have the headphone jack on the top. I thought maybe this was done to keep all of the cables ( Charging/Sync and Audio Togther) but you can't listen to the player when it is being charged on your PC. I haven't tried charging it with a CAR USB Charger yet. I hope it will still play while being charged if necessary, but with an advertised battery life of 33 hours, it should not need to be charge very often. I have been playing it for two and half weeks now on the original charge.

As I said earlier, I give the player 5 Stars for Sound Quality, Ease of Use, Build Quality and Battery Life. The proprietary cable thing and lack of a tuner concern me enough to lower the rating half star for each on the product, epescially when a tuner was included in the 600 series. I don't want to call the 600 series a lower end unit because it sounds identical to the 800 series ( when using the same headphones) and has the same interface except for the Tuner Screen, but the build quality is different, I won't even say that it is lower, it is just different and in someways better.

My suggestion for you if you are looking at this unit is to get at least the 8 GB model, especially if you put any video or photos on it. The time machine shuffle is feature that works well if you have large collection of music. It is very similar to DJ Shuffle on the Creative Zen, and it will keep your listening experience fresh, as long as your ID3 Tagging info is up to date.

Finally, if you are a person that really, really loves music and liked the sound of the Net Walkman Mini Disc players, and early Non MP3 Sony CD Players you will love this player. I listened to some of the same tracks on both players, this Walkman is so much better sound wise plus you get the convenience of instant access to hundreds of songs.

This is a very good player and I don't think you will be dissappointed if you buy it. I had given up on Sony in the MP3 market because I was tired of converting all my MP3s to ATRAC. ( even though I like the ATRAC Sound) Also, the thumbdrive Sony MP3 players just didn't quite hit a homerun with me, but they definitely have a winner here, and no I do not work for Sony. I just pray Sony doesn't blow it by making a major design change( other than the USB Connection) to this player.

starsIt has excellent sound quality.
I think the product has excellent sound qulaity. Also, it is definitely better than the Apple ipods. However, it the maximum volume level is not that high to cancel the nosie especially when you're flying.

starsNew walkman's beat Most other players.
The players of series MP3 of walkman of Sony have the design easy to use clean. Functionality of dredger and fall, and the quality of sound is large. The life of battery is close of best in the class. Easy navigation and quality are there too well. It is also less expensive than the i-pod. praised the noise gives a kick I-thimble * # %.

starssony mp3 palyer
I swallow just charged my songs on the noise awsome of player of Sony that it is my first player mp3 I read all the review before buying Sony nwza816 4gb. I just did not want a ipod or the player of MP of zune this player large, easy with is used more Cd which comes with assistances trails and drops graet. always establishing the rest of thr hope that this helps

starsA great buy
The good things others have said about this product are true. I even looked at reviews on other sites and it was listed as 5/5 stars. I was initially interested in this because I can add or delete files on the Walkman using Windows Explorer rather than some proprietary interface.

I was able to construct movies using Windows Movie Maker and Photo Story 3 (both free from Microsoft) from my vacation pix and flix and convert them to MP4 (using Freez iPod Video Converter) to play on the Walkman. The Walkman is a little wonkie and particular when it comes to MP4 files but the software from Freez did the job.

Since pressing any button activates the Walkman, be sure to use the hold button on the back of the unit to place it in HOLD.

My only regret is not springing for the 8 gig. I hope it proves to have a long useful life like my other SONY products.

Make sure you play with the equalizer and VPT settings. You may find a sound setting you'll like better than the default.

starsexcellent product
I bought this article for my daughter. She likes it and says that the product is manner better than the creative laboratories Zen Neeon I had bought it the back of a few years (the battery on that more of the expenses) which I am happy to see that Sony makes a player MP-3. I remember when I obtained my first walkman. Thus it is a feast for the older generation as well. Large product! Made well, Sony!

starsAwesome little mp3 player!!
My husband bought the player to me mp3 of Sony 816 for Christmas. I like it. I had an old sport of walkman of Sony and it was correct but having to employ the sonic stage was a nightmare. The noise on this nine is impressive. The buds of ear are first which I this really adapted and remains inside. Until accessories, I needed a band of sport because I employ most of the time my player mp3 for the use in the room of gymnastics. We live overseas at a military base comparing the prices thus is not as easy as operation with my local target. However, I found a jacket of action of JIO with out of the local exchange made for ipods really adapt my player well. I only had to make some adjustments to be able to reach all the buttons. I cut 2 small holes to reach the button of catch and volume and functions the fine to him right. In a general way a large small player! ! !

starsWalkman surprise!
The lives of the A816 walkman until him is the reviews. It is a large machine of music. The quality of the music is with the top products MP3.

starsSony Finally Nailed It
I find the iPod too patent rights, thus I had awaited a player like this to come length. I passed with a couple of essential, inexpensive instantaneous players to the top up to now, and this unit was worth the sorrow waiting. It seems absolutely fantastic, the quality of posting is excellent, it is a cakewalk to be directed and employ (although trailing and dropping themselves against syncing the information of the label some seem to neutralize id3), and it seems just very well thought outside, conceived, and finished. It is surprisingly small and smooth, and has simply the feeling of a product of quality. Better of all, there is no block of stumbling of patent rights of software or format. One of my preferred unexpected devices is that you can review your music by the art of album in a clean format, concise, simple.

starsI really like it, but....
I like really my NWZ A816. It is thin, smooth, light, has the great quality of sound, and the life of battery is astonishing. Ah, the ear-phones which come with him are marvellous. I think that they sell with the detail by themselves for $60 as it is above of the line. I do not occupy myself of there is no FM tuner. _ I really like not the fact that it there be no shirt to put some audiobooks or podcasts (if I be wrong, me say please that because I want employ this thing with it be full capacity). I employ to have mini Ipod, it was my first player MP3 and I liked this thing! I must admit, that misses to me really having a wheel of click and it was so easy simply to employ. I never once due to refer itself to the handbook. It is not the case with Sony. I do not miss these cheap white ear-phones. Do I to think of me, I continue should return this and obtain the 3rd GEN of Nano? But the quality of sound on this device is really astonishing. It is the manner that you are supposed to listen to the music. I also hate the lack of accessories for this player. Each accessory of third is built for the IPOD. I guess that the marks feel since they are the reigning king. I want to really employ this to establish, but I cannot find a sportsband. I want to protect it with a point from right for the occasional use and I cannot find one of these either. Even with all my bad tempers, I cannot seem to give up my player. Visual Player MP3 Of Walkman Of Sony NWZA816BLK 4GB (Black)

starsThe best sounding MP3 player I have ever heard.
Sony NWZ-A816 is held with the medium of newest series NWZ-A810. The bad news is that they are manufactured in China, which could give you a certain bad feeling about quality. However, with me, the bad news finishes simply here. Moment I have opened package, I have felt player mp3 smooth high quality on my hand, which did not point out "the lower make-in-porcelain" products to me than I was accustomed to buying years (or even a couple of the months) it y A. the packing of the walkman of Sony mp3 was even or the package of Nano better than creative of Zen I also like the elegant design of body, which makes to me estimate it that I am out of the crowd of the ipods, with the model. I bought this Sony only for the quality of sound. The first listening (before the battery was charged. Afflicted, I cannot makes an attempt) immediately convinced me of his quality of sound of first order. Let to me say to you something about my stereo bottom of equipment. I started with the receiver of Technics 20 years ago and slowly improved my operational equipment with Adcom of today, préampli of research of Integra with the amplifier of Class. I had and thus listened to intensively many receivers and separates to include Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Adcom, Parasound, Acurus, Classe. Each time I made my levelling, I really listened carefully and made my choices. Moreover, my favour of music is traditional. I go to the Hall symphony of San Francisco to rather frequently appreciate the classical music (and from time to time, noises). My standard with the production of music is based on real concerts of music. If a whole of operational equipment is good depends on the way in which narrow they can reproduce the noise with truths instruments and the human voices. I think that many players mp3 on the nonsatisfied market me with my taste. I have (or used with clean) Sandisk (so-so), Samsung (not-bad), several creative players mp3 (well with the good) and Sony inch-lead like the player mp3 (very good). Among them, the quality of the sound of Sony shone. My wife, my parents and all my parents and friends who listened to this Sony inch-lead the player mp3 agree with me. The healthy character of Sony is not only clean but also with the excellent texture of median frequency. Its clearness and forces median frequency are essential for the truth-instrumental music. Moreover the high frequency part of Sony is each stringer. By comparison, even the second best resounding player mp3 as the ipod would seem metal or mechanical. Sony NWZ-A816 which I now review has all the good characteristics of Sony, plus that it has a resolution more raised a little. Compare moreover with Sony inch-lead the player mp3 (business of killer of A of $29 of fasten), this one resounds a little on the luminous side, but with better a detail and clearness. (if you think can be obtained more details by raising the high one, the test still!) The low one is also clean and precise. It is not very strong but you hear the low one. If you must feel (extremely but precise) the low one, buy you a fine amp with a fine subwoofer. Among all the players mp3 I audited, including newest video of ipod, only this Sony recalls me the concerts which I had listened to in the Hall symphony of San Francisco Davis. Moreover, it feels large in your hand. The operation is easy and intuitive (thanks to great and clear liquid crystal display). Even the ear-phone which comes with it has an excellent quality and carries out satisfactory. My ear-phone of Shure E2 carries out just a little better with high stronger (little too a fort) and low the firmer. But only the ear-phone of Shure costs $80. I played build-in the video of bottom of page of Spiderman 3. The result answers or exceeds with my hope of this small screen. The noise of the video points out to me my system of noise of hometheater! Still, you can hear the low one but not feel it. The photographs seem also marvellous. It does not astonish since Sony must match the quality of this player mp3 to other lines of Sony. Viewing fishes for the video and the photograph is average right. The colors and contrast become shifted of 85 degrees and above. You can change the orintaion image or video so that you can look them in the landscape. Those can be easily done by pushing the button of "option". The directional trimming of order can not be as fresh as the orders moving revolving by the ipod. But with me it is the design of the most convenient order up to now. Once fixed at the computer (employing the wire of patent rights of USB), it will be identified by your PC like lines of "balador" (or lead-like the shirt). You can trail-N-lowers your directory of the collections mp3 in "the secondary-shirt of the music of Walkman". You can create up to 6 more level of secondary-shirt to organize your songs! I like this operation. The creative players mp3 have this device a long ago. I wish that it also have devices of recording of tuner and FM voice. However, I really seldom employ them on my creative players mp3. Thus they should not be important for me. In a word, there is not a simple lower design which started me a second thought on this Sony. I would evaluate this Sony which a solid 5 holds the first role without the reservation! More an end: please employ at least the level 192kps for the files mp3. This CAN of Sony and will easily encourage you to make the difference between the files 128kps and the files 256kps! No Sony wonder employed all the files of 256kps mp3 for the songs of demonstration!

starsThe beautiful sound!
First, I have to admit that I'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to how music sounds and how my tv looks, etc. As a result of this, this MP3 player is the first one that I have ever owned, and I have to say, I am SOOOO happy with it. The sound quality is unbelieveable. There are so many different equalizer settings that you can find the right sound for every type of music. The interface is a delight to use, and the screen, even though it is 2", is so clear and easy to see. The battery life is awsome too. I haven't charged it in 2 weeks now and I've listened to it some almost every day. Now, with all that said, I do have one problem. It is not that easy to add videos, not that I have found yet anyway. The main problem is compressing things small enough to put them on. But, I'm still giving it 5 stars because I'll work out this one small glich soon. You won't be disappointed with this purchase, it's worth every penny!
