Sony STRDG1100 7.1 Channel Surround Sound A/V Receiver
Reviews:

starsPower Rating Misleading
This SONY STRDG1100 is not estimated correctly. There are contradictions in the literature. Initially SONY declares that the amplifier is rated to 100 watt for the rabbet for a total of 700 watt. However, the technical characteristics in the posterior part of the handbook declare the group of feeding are only rated to 350 watt. Under all the other aspects this receiving is good but not large.

starsStill a SONY Fan! This A/V unit Rocks!
This unit replaces my old Sony 5.1 STR-710 it was used to upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1 and hook to my new 60" Sony flat screen. I use both old school and new school equipment so it was improtant that this unit would accept my current equipment and be able to expand into the future. I can say that it took an afternoon of playing with the unit to get it hooked up but WOW what a great unit. SONY ROCKS!

If you want to check out the upscale feature plop in a tape that is run through RBG and digital sound! The grand kids were blown away with the picture. I have 150 watt old school Fisher front speakers with 12" woofers and this thing drives them clean and crisp, not to mention the 200watt sub and 100watt surrounds. The decoding on the 7.1 is awsome and this was a good fit for my movie room. The programming is easy with the menu and the Brava system works so easy my wife can use it, truly one button function. (she is electronically challenged) The auto calibration gets you close and the fine tuning is very easy. The Auto functions are neat and clean when changing from souces like HDMI to digital input.

Now for the bad, sorry but this will be a short paragraph. The only issue after three weeks is I still do not know how to switch the seating position (1,2, or 3) or change the 5 pre-set EQ settings. That's it!

starsthe perfect reciever for the playsation 3
after reading the reviews and specs i decided to make the plunge and pick up the str-dg1100. it's the least expensive sony reciever that can make the most of what the playstation 3 can put out via Blu-Ray at this time by processing uncompressed 8 channel LPCM over HDMI, 1080p @ 24Hz video without a hitch, and self calibrate. the dg2100 is identical to the dg1100 but does internal decoding of next gen Dolby True Hd and DTS HD Master audio. while that may be desireable to some, the playstation 3 can't bitstream either, (but internally decodes Dolby true HD :-) )so either way i would need to get a new BD player for DTS, might as well wait to get one that internally decodes or see if sony updates the ps3 to do it.

the source switching times are 4 and 5 seconds, depending if you are going between analog or hdmi digital or not, not the long 10-15 seconds previously reported. given that it's actual HDMI signal processing and not pass through sampling this is expected. what's not expected is the fact the gui only comes up as an overlay above analog video, and cuts off digital signals for menu. upconversion, while good, won't make any jaws drop over what your tv's internal scaler does for regular tv or what the ps3 does with dvd. the best part about the upconversion is all signals are upconverted with little to no switching 'noise'. when my phillips 1080p tv does it, it's annoying and jarring, the dg1100 is fast and the noise is soft like 'snow'. my only qualm is the top row of pixels is scrambled on some 480i signals.

the shippig was great, even on super saver shipping i ordered monday night and got it that friday.

if you don't want to internally decode nex gen audio codecs, or put signals out to a second room, i see no reason to go higher than this unit, the sound is awesome, and it ill do everything you tell it too.

"update"
well flip, looks like sony announced that they are making a new str-dg 920 later this year, it does everything the current dg2100 does for the same price as this dg1100 here (MSRP of $599), you may want to hold off and get that one. look it up.

starsFantastic
Couldnt ask for a more well engineered product. Sony, as allways, delivers the best. Sound, ease of set up, and manuals are 2nd to none.
I am well pleased..

starsDid not get the results I was looking for
They are not sure if accosentissi with the bonds reivews introduces to you here. After the reading of the all these good reviews from others, I have had expections much high when I have bought this receiving of avoirdupois. Well, they have not been satisfied with turns out to you. I really wish someone dirmi that it is an edition of putting to point. Instead of explanation of the characteristics available (you can obtain these information from the handbook that is available from the Web site of the SONY), will describe the action plans that of the test I have worked. This sense, others can convalidare my observations if already in order to possess this receiving. I have a XBOX connected to one of input the members of receiving and a cable of HDMI 1.3a that they go from receiving to my TV. I have regulated the video resolution on receiving to 1080p (I have 1080p a HD TV) like taught to in the handbook of receiving. According to the handbook, all he marks them in income via HDMI and the member would have to be "upconverted" to 1080p when the video resolution is regulated to 1080p. has previewed that it took mine marks them in income from XBOX and it gave to chiud -- H' to quality produced to my TV. The two action plans that of the test I have made to work the test 1) I have played a DVD without to naturally allow some regulations of HD conversion on the XBOX (, still I have the resolution regulated to 1080p on receiving). I have not found some meaningful improvement in the quality. It verifies 2) the allowed conversion to 1080i on xbox and played the same quality of bam and DVD... the it was the astonishment of truley. Hour I have tried to change the resolution that receiving rule on that I hope to find the difference perceivable (the this would have been an indication that is making something if not nothing). To my disappointment, I have not found any. They are assured to me that my TV is obtaining marks them 1080p in both cases using the characteristic "of Info" of my TV. To me, it has seemed that receiving was right lengthening the image for rendergli the resolution 1080p rather than making all the interpolation. To the end, my used beat of $90 XBOX this real Evil of receiving from $700 avoirdupois. The thing that I have not verified is playing a normal DVD from a DVD player that can produce HDMI. Spec. on the Web site of the SONY has specified that it can marks them in income "of the upscale" from HDMI. I do not know if this made any difference. For that what I was trying - taking a video marks them member from a normal player of DVD and outputing to chiud -- H' to marks them of quality, highly they have been disappointed. Not task that this is too much from asking, because my XBOX is making this. The reason that I have wished to buy receiving in the first place must have only a cable to go to my TV. They have come through this model and after the reading on the characteristic of upconverion, I have thought that it left it to enjoy the feeding to align of 1080p a TV. They would have have gone with a less expensive model if you had known that the quality of the video is not that large one.

starsExcellent product...
I had an older sony receiver and needed the hdmi hook-ups. Looked at Harmon Kardon and Denon in same price range. Sony was best suited for needs. Audio is important, but I also appreciate the top quality video from Blu-Ray (PS3), 46" sony bravia, and HD player. Many other receivers down grade 1080p to 1080i. Also, some receivers with video repeater functions for video will not work with current cable provider's box. This is an excellent product for this mid-level price range. I was nervous about shipping an expensive product like this, but Amazon was excellent. I used super saving shipping method and product was still sent by next day air.

starsVery pleased
I wanted a Denon A/V receiver, because of their quality. But I opted for the Sony to have the advantage of the Bravia theater sync (I have a Sony XBR flatscreen). I'm totally pleased with the quality of this receiver. The theater sync works well. The audio quality is excellent (as good or better than the Denon I'm replacing). I have a Sony DVD with upconversion, so the receiver probably isn't being taxed to do that. But the video even on ordinary DVDs is a distinct improvement, whether it's due to the DVD or the A/V. I love the GUI interface. As most reviewers note, the Sony remote is less than intuitive. But I can live with it in exchange for the fluid syncing between the TV, the DVD, and the receiver. The price point on this unit made it a great deal for all of the connectivity and quality that it offers.

starsDoes everything I want it to do!
Approval! I have a blue beam and a player of HD that have used the orificii of HDMI. Moreover I have a burner and old palyer lasar a large one of the disc that I have connected in the section componant. C$r-nessun.problema. My plasma 50' stage to right within. This receiving in on-converts normal DVDs. The image that derives from in on-conversion is large. Receiving has abundance of feeding to guide mine m.

starsAmazing AV Control Center/Receiver
I have spold approximately a week that I search the several ones receiving of avoirdupois in this range of price. As the owner of a SONY Bravia HDTV I was partial to due SONY the characteristic of technology of Synch of the theatre of Bravia in order to eliminate one manciata of external resumptions. And to this purpose this receiving ago perfectly the job. I can control all my functions of the TV via the external resumption. Poichè I modernize my player who of DVD is sure that moreover I will be able to control this device via the theatre Synch di Bravia. Even if I could program all the 2 functions of mine player of non-HDMI DVD of years without the problems. The only edition is with a direct TV HD DVR in how much neither my television neither this receiving uses with of code that allows that the external resumption of the SONY functions with directed receiving of TV DVR. Therefore for less they are hour I drain myself to the put technical support in contact with 2 remotes.I of the SONY and were of no aid. That is not an unit of the game and the thorn. You must before study the handbook with cure even of taken of the unit from the box it. Make this and you will diminish the frustrations with the putting to point of the system and can elevate your enjoyment of this part of equipment. Once that the system is installed the automobile bores the characteristic installs the levels of the audio of the system of the loudspeaker. After that this point that tweaked the system from the ear and the sound was awsome in any case. The decoder decodes the audio automatically incomming and visualizes the way on the screen of receiving. The system is supplied of 3 input of HDMI and one has produced for your TV like also numerous others input (sees spec.) that if you had completely to use they would allow that me it sinks to me quickly in a level of the debit that would rival with the public debit. I have compared this receiving to several of receiving of series of es moreover from SONY and for the difference of the moneies this was the buy advanced, based on the functionality that I was trying. The sound on this system is to align impressive, you to align transforma in in part of the scene when it watches a DVD. The whips of the audio around to the room to the point in which really you twist your head that previews something to come you from the side or give behind. Receiving ago to work here relatively cold once confronted to other units towards the outside that in my mind as electrotechnical technical assistant is critical in how much the heat is the larger enemy of the electronic members. In my mind the electronics cold current are equal one long life.

starsexcellent product
I've been upgrading my system. Started with Sony 60A3000(great tv). Next was Onkyo 605. A nice unit, popular, but I was not satisfied with performance at low and medium sound levels. Sounded "thin". Decided to try Sony 1100. A dramatic difference in my setup. Sound was more full and deeper at mid level. At higher levels it was very impressive. I use Top Gun dvd as one of my test dvds. Both the 605 and 1100 picked up the ratchet noise made by the sled in scene 1, but it was more distinct on the 1100. At mid level the 1100 was nicer to listen to, at high volume it was also more "full" sounding and working with less effort.
Both process video from 1080i and lower up to 1080p if using hdmi. Again, video thru the 605 was impressive, but the 1100 was better-sharper, crisper and on the HD channels awesome.
In my view, the Sony 1100 is worth the money, I noticed both audio and video improvements.
btw-I upgraded my 8 yr old subwoofer and it was a dramatic improvement. I highly recommend using a quality sub.
