I bought my Tom Tom for $125 from the door, therefore the acquisition was not no more brainer. Best government inspection department for the money by far. Reliably you can spend some hundred more and with your screen size prahlen..., but I come to the same places, which become you, straight with more moneys in my bag.

tomtom easy to use
I find the TomTom easy to use. I wanted something which was basic no frills. I have been able to use it in the local area and on long trips. Setting the destination prior to leaving on the trip makes sense. Then if you decide you are more familiar with the route than you thought you can shut it off. Trying to program it while driving just doesn't make sense and could be hazardous. Best thing since power steering.

Poor product support
I had my unit for less than three months and the screen stopped working properly. BE WARNED...their product support is horrible. I have to RMA this to a repair center at MY EXPENSE and it will take two weeks to fix. The big problem is that I leave for vacation in less than a week (the reason I bought this in the first place). Customer support...they just didn't care. Very disappointing to say the least.


Great Product BUT NOT better than GARMIN
This is large product for the price, BUT, if you use at all min, you do not like this more. The software is not that efficient and user friendly. The interface is also not largely however okay.


Very Inaccurate
I used the Tom Tom several times over the last month. From 12 addresses I have 3 disturbances. My house a block away is located and on the other side of the road of, to which it says it, is. In a trailer park it takes a block behind the entrance and in the city to me took it me to the block 400 instead of after the address 225, which I looked for. I had to turn it off and to use the old kind and way eye ball approximation. I am disappointed much and a Tom Tom again would never buy.


Great machine for the price
I waited over one year before purchasing a GPS. Although a sad confession to make , the anticipation of the 'buy' was a harmless past-time in this period. I assessed my needs & how often I would actually use one & when the one 3rd ed. hit the 160 ish mark , I bought it. I am very happy with it. I set up the on-line downloads & that updated it straight away ( free for the first month ) & allows one to create routes etc & download more 'points of interest'. For example a sign for Dunkin' D's shows up when I drive past one ( there are many other options , to appease my wife , a sign for Target also appears ) . I also downloaded, for free, an English ladies voice for the directions. All personal choice & I prefer the sound of her. I like the option of Zip/post codes & it shows telephone numbers of points of interest . On driving, I have found it to be quick in picking up signals ( again , one can download sat' info' each week that assists the GPS in locating them ) & the information to be just what I need. The announcements , thus far, have been easy to understand & operate on; as have the screen directions. I like the 'help' features that give basic information on first aid & car stuff.
I wld strongly recommend this product. My 2 pieces of advice : If you drive & need to use a GPS ALOT , consider one with a larger screen - that is true for any GPS ( I didn't think the extra 100 or so was worth it for the number of times I really need to use it , but a daily user may think differently) . ALso , I strongly recommend buying the bracketron Nav-MAt. I live in a high crime area ( my car has been broken into 4 times & once they only stole the rear view mirror ) & this beauty ensures that no marks are left on the screen , also , it makes it easier to take the GPS out of the car & away somewhere safe.
Overall, this is a very solid & well priced unit that will serve most buyers well . It does exactly what it says 'on the tin'.

Update - I have used this a lot over the past few weeks. Updating points of interests is quite easy. Like a few other reviewers; it is far easier to plan ones route & update etc via the computer screen. The TT allows 'remote' access & from the computer ( with the TT attached ) new routes & map updates can be processed. I have also set my screen to show the 'map update' icon. For example, when driving, if you notice that a shop has closed & it is on the POI ( points of interest ) -or you want to add a new POI, simply tap on the icon & it will save the location & allow one to edit & send the information to others. I used this option last night. It was very quick & once you have done it once, it will be second nature.


Tom Tom One 3rd Edition
I love my Tom Tom one, but I have trouble to program her. As soon as I receive over the initials, which sets up me, are fine. My married man had for a pair of years and no problems has set up it. Possibly I need more practice. I had trouble with an address, since there was some Cumberlands, which was registered under the same Reissverschluscode in Maine. It did not recognize the actual road name, which I wanted to find, since he was too new. The instructions are so clear that you can receive not lost so long, as you set the right information inside. I think that it is a large machine.


Tom Tom works great
My son, who travels much, recommended a TomTom for our friend, who traveled not to a large extent. We ordered after a long search, in order to find in stock. As soon as some basic rules are learned, we can find a way too nearly everywhere. Our local restaurants in the Podunk corners, ms are even registered. I love it.


Great buy!
At first I was doubting whether I should buy this item or not because I had never heard of TOMTOM. This product is pretty sweet. You can hook it up to your computer download new maps or updates. Plus you can share your maps. So if a road is closed or a new road is now available you can draw it in and share your maps with other TOMTOM owners. You can also download the speed trap updates. This alerts you when you are coming up to an area with traffic cameras. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I have not used any other GPS-nav systems so I can't provide a comparison. But putting that aside, I am very impressed with my investment. Upon opening the box, I found that the instruction manual was not comprehensive. However, the manual came with directions on how to get the full instruction manual from the Internet. As long as you can view .pdf files, you should be fine in terms of getting the full instructions.

Mounting the unit was simple. However, I found that the ball and socket joint, which lets you rotate the screen around the mount, to be very stiff. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. It's good in that the screen will never move when you are driving, even on uneven roads. It's bad if you ever plan on rotating the screen while driving because it's pretty hard to rotate with one hand.

When I start the Tomtom, sometimes it will not be able to find the GPS location for a while. I can't say how long it might possibly take for you to personally find your GPS location. But for me, it usually takes around 30-50 seconds upon turning on the Tomtom. This can vary depending on where you are on the globe, but I think most people can spare one minute.

I found the route calculation to be fast. Ususally, the Tomtom can calculate a route between 4-10 seconds. When I deviated off-course, it took around the same time to find a new route. When planning a route, you can choose to avoid freeways, find the shortest route, find the fastest route, and find bike paths among other things. You can also choose to pass or avoid certain streets.

The Tomtom One comes a lot of POIs, over a million I think. And it lets you select which types POIs you want displayed on your map. The Tomtom also includes directions by voice, in case you were wondering. Also, you can customize the blue status bar to show various info, including the time to destination and your speed. Finally, you can choose to enable certain safety features. One that I found interesting was that you can choose to disable certain buttons and menus while driving. This helps to keep you focused on the road instead of punching in a long address while driving. It also helps you to access other menus and features faster. Overall, for the price, I was impressed with the amount of customizable options allowed on the Tomtom.

Overall, for $170, not including tax, I found the Tomtom to be worth every bit of my money. While I personally wanted a GPS with a larger screen, I am able to live with the small screen. A lot of GPS units on the market let you upload photos and music, but if you are looking for a no frills but dependable and affordable GPS system, the Tomtom is worth considering.


Best bang for the buck
So which I wished? Music, fernsprechdienst? Nope, fair good and cheap government inspection departments unit. This is it. Doesnt have the bells and the Whistles of the more expensive units, but, it doesnt requirement too. Fast government inspection department, exact diagrams and my 11 year old represented from the complete thing in 30 minutes. She does, what says her that she does and her it well.

Great GPS for its price
Pros:
1. Reasonable price
2. Good customizing features. Add POIs, custom voices, splash screens.
3. Nice and loud.

Cons:
1. Doesn't seem to know about U-turns! It keeps routing to avoid them.
2. It's not able to recognize all addresses. My last two residential addresses have not been recognizable. I use the cross street option to get around this.
4. Tourist attractions POIs could use an update.


All the cons can easily be addressed, so I'm hoping a firmware upgrade and map update gets released.

Good GPS on the second try
First, which I ordered, had the problem, in which it began above with a vacant screen, it is I resetting first operated. I exchanged it against a new, which is. (thanks, Amazon.) Since I live in the northern part of the country, it was an advantage, so that I had a government inspection department, which closes diagrams of US and Canada. The other GPSs in this price distance did not include Canada also. If not for receiving, I would have given this government inspection department five stars to the defective unit on the first attempt. Some people do not like that he does not say the road name, but I will fallen also, as this works. The road name are simple on the screen and to read, and the spoken directions are clearly and simple to follow.


Like a music virtuoso who sometimes ignores audience requests!
I was deeply impressed when I was first handed a TomTom One Version 3 in June 2007. It accurately took us over the river and through the woods along winding, Upstate New York country roads between a wedding site and the reception site. When It said, "You have reached your destination," our car was ten feet from the sign of the restaurant where the reception was held. Awesome! With printed MapQuest or Yahoo Maps, we would certainly have gotten lost and arrived frazzled. Now, after a year with my TomTom, and I am still in love with it. But, like a favorite relative, it can be annoying and even intractable at time. But considering that the built-in GPS systems of five years ago cost thousands of dollars, ran off 5-CD changers, cost thousands of dollars, and required $75-$150 annual map updates, the TomTom (now around $160) is a fantastic value. Not to mention that all map updates are FREE online, and that you can move it from vehicle #1 to vehicle #2 just by plugging it into the cigarette lighter outlet. Is it perfect? No. Do I love it? Yes. Would I buy the next version? Probably - depends on the extent of the upgrades and how the competition (Garmin, for example) has upgraded their units. Richard N. Côté, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.

Good points:
* Crisp, clear color display that the owner can personalize to taste.
* Adjustable volume and brightness controls enable you to adapt it to day/night and sound preferences.
* Map zooms let you adjust for long-range driving (large overview) or short-range, densely-populated urban environments with frequent turns.
* If, while using it, you make a wrong turn, it immediately recalculates the way to get you back on the right route. Typically, it takes less than six seconds to do so. And unlike your wife or husband, it never chews you out for having taken the wrong turn!
* All GPS systems get their position information from a number of GPS satellites in geosynchronous orbit around the earth. When turned on in my car, it usually takes 15-20 seconds to lock onto the satellites, but I haven't had it lose them yet while underway.
* It comes with two English male voices, two English female voices, and one each in Spanish. There are other voices available for $4.95 each. My favorite was - for a week - the low, sexy voice of "Sylvia," a seductress who, at the end of your trip, purrs, "You have reached your destination. But don't stop yet....!" After a week, I tired of her and went back to "Richard," an American male voice with no "attitude"!
* I comes with complete maps of the U.S. and England, with maps of most of Europe available by download for a reasonable fee.
* It gives you accurate advance "when-to-turn" info, taking into account how fast you are going. It includes warning you well in advance when to change lanes to avoid being forced off your route by traffic. I think this is awesome, especially when navigation spaghetti-like urban Interstate highway routes involving frequent, high-speed turns.
* It rarely tells you to drive into lakes or through swamps and forests with no roads, but this is not always the case! A couple of times when using MapQuest, I would have needed a boat or ATV if I had actually followed the maps that MapQuest gave me.
* The built-in battery will run the unit for about two hours without being plugged in. And you can back up everything in its memory on your PC via the TomTom to PC USB cable. It enables the TomTom unit to talk to the TomTom "mother ship" on the Internet, and download map and software updates as often as you like.

Weak and bad points:
* It doesn't recognize non-public roads well. If you punch in a store's address, and the store is in a huge shopping mall, it will tell you that you've arrived - even though you have to drive another quarter mile and make eight more turns before you are actually at the store.
* The suction-cup mount won't stick to most dashboards (with their fake-leather veining) - only to glass. I prefer a dashboard mount, which takes up less visual space, and in addition, my Honda van had such a sharp windshield slope that the suction cup base wouldn't work on it. The TomTom unit comes with a 3.5" round plastic plate with adhesive strips that enable it to be mounted on dashboards, but I found that the suction cup, even when moistened, often would not hold the TomTom in place on the flat plastic surface and it fell onto the car floor. I solved the problem by putting Velcro strips on the top surface of the plastic plate and the same on the bottom of the suction cup. That home-made fix works like a charm. BTW: these GPS units are very attractive to thieves. Put yours under the seat and out of sight when you leave the car.
* If you know better than it does about the best way to get to there from here, TomTom may disagree--and is very hard to train. Although it took us flawlessly from a Charleston, SC suburban address along a 275-mile route to a suburban Charlotte, NC address, it won't give me reasonable directions from the Charleston, SC suburb to a downtown Charleston, SC address!
* Although it has a "calculate different route" option, and may come up with six alternate routes, the "best" one may not be one of them. If you know better than it does, just go your own way for a few blocks and it will usually catch on and recalculate the proper directions.
* Although it gives the "when-to-turn" directions in advance, it will say, "After 400 yards, bear right, then take the highway," instead of "After 400 yards, take the on-ramp for Interstate 526 East." The screen clearly shows the "Interstate 526 East" red-and-blue symbol, but TomTom can't convert the visual information it displays into speech commands. Maybe the next version will.
* As you will read below in the other reviews, the how-to-use-it documentation is AWFUL. It explains virtually nothing about how to use many features. Nothing. If you buy a TomTom, be prepared to poke a lot of touch-screen buttons if you want to use the more advanced features, because you won't find any instructions built into the unit or on the TomTom online site.

Great value on a fine GPS
I have been using TomTom's product for several years. They work very fine to me. One thing I have to complain about this product is that it is extremely difficult to stick steady on the windshield. It usually falls off 3-4 times within a 10-mile road trip.


Love at first sight!
TomTom ONE 3rd Edition 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Vehicle Navigator I gave this as a gift to my son and he raved about it. He said that it had no trouble locating a satellite (like others he had tried and returned); that it was simple to operate; that it was clear to read; and that it gave updated accurate directions even after he intentionally made a wrong turn. In short, he loved it and can't be without it.


Bad navigation, easy to use!
My wife was very excited to get the TomTom One for Christmas. She often has to drive into the far suburbs of Chicagoland where she's never been before. We hooked it up to the computer and got the John Cleese voice.

It's very easy to use, but I wish you could preview the next instructions after you get into the navigation mode. The directions are often horrible. Instead of making a left turn, it often asks us to turn right onto a busy thoroughfare and make a U-turn. Again, if we could look a few steps ahead we could see that we should turn left instead of right + a U-turn. But you can't check ahead after your start driving.

At a fork in the highway system, it's told us to get onto the wrong highway, get off, drive 12 blocks through residential streets, then get back onto the correct highway a mile after the fork. It does this every time I navigate to my Mom's neighborhood.

I use it mainly for locating where I am, so I don't have to look for street signs. If we really need directions we use the Verizon Navigator on our cell phones. It's mostly right, and you can peek ahead to see what the next steps are.


I really like Tom
I'd gotten a Magellan Roadmate for my husband for Christmas - he travels a lot for work & I thought that was the perfect gift for him. Then I met Tom, and now we go everywhere - long or short trips. It doesn't have as many fiddle-features as the Magellan (likely a safety feature), but it takes me where I want to go, even adjusting the ETA based on my speed vs the speed limits. It's very user friendly, and has worked in some very remote areas. I like the HELP ME features, different voice and language capabilities, user map corrections, I'm really very pleased with Tom as my co-pilot. We recently took a trip across 3 states, and my husband felt left out - Tom handled the navigation part just fine. Now we can discuss what's more important than "This way or that way" topics!

Right out of the box, Tom has been all I'd hoped for in a navigation system, and I've been very pleased with the simplicity & accuracy. While I may or may not be taking the most direct route - I've gotten exactly where I was going without having to pull over & consult a map or gas station. Tom rules! It's got all the gadgets and accessories you'll need in the box, for basic use = no need to go buy batteries, holsters, etc, just get in the car & go where you wanna go. Nice job, TomTom!


Great Device for a Reasonable Price
I bought my TomTom a day before leaving on a business trip to two cities I hadn't been to before. The TomTom operated flawlessly as it guided me while I navigated unfamiliar roads.

It does what it does very well. An essential feature of the TomTom is that it works great with a Mac.

BEST VALUE for Money GPS.
If you buy this GPS any less than 150 than you have made a steal. This is a no non-sense, robust & solid performance GPS. I was looking for a GPS, which does it's job and does it well for a price which is justified. TomTom 3rd edition is certainly one of those. The GARMIN's of the world may also do the same job but at a needlessly high price. It does all what we want

1.) Great Signals in minutes - Even in New York City areas.
2.) The thing that I like most about this GPS is that it tells you after how much distance is your next action going to come. E.g. 350 yards for next right turn and in big letters & symbol distinctly on the screen. This helps you just if you forgot what the GPS last said or you were in a conversation with a partner when it mentioned you last.

5.) One good thing it does is that, instead of saying 'Turn right on Main St' it tells you 'Take the 2nd right'. Though it would have been good if it just displayed the next turn i.e 'Main St' on the screen. The good thing is that you do not have to look for street names at intersections and allows you to concentrate on the road ahead.

Overall anything less than $150 is a steal for this GPS & < $175 a good bargain.

Very Very Happy
I have and will continue to highly recommend this product. This is the first GPS system that I have owned and absolutely love it. Traveling thru the Pan Handle on a recent trip, the TomTom even picks up little tiny dirt roads. Gives clear and concise directions. Let's you know way in advance of which direction you'll be turning so you can get in the correct lane. Easy to use with the touch screen. Again, I love mine and would highly recommend to anyone else to purchase.

Very good for this price range
We have had no real issues with the 3rd Edition. It is very easy to use and understand. The only gripe I have is that while I know there is no text-to-speech, I really wish the actual street name was displayed on the bottom of the screen. All you see is the street, but no name beforehand. So it can be almost a guessing game and we have missed a steet because of it. I know the Garmins will actually display the name on screen that you are about to turn on to. I wish the TomTom 3rd Edition did the same. But like I said, its only a minor issue. Other than that, its smooth sailing.


Great Entry Level GPS Unit
I've had this unit approximately 3 months and have absolutely no complaints. It lacks some of the bells and whistles of the higher end GPS units, but so far It's always gotten me to the place I needed to get to. I would definately recommend the TomTom One to anyway looking for a no frills easy to use entry level GPS.

TomTom One Navigator - - - Get one.
This is a formed well, quality product, which does everything, which and much more is announced. I formed but have short test runs formed and in the morning not really up to now surprised a long journey with it, how much it programmed into it. It has established in the compass agency clearance direction. It shows "atom" master clock time of the satellite. Their carrier speed is shown in MPH on the announcement and can be adjusted, in order to sound a signal with each possible sentence speed. The daily announcement actualenough brightly to see under most conditions and is adjustable. The night announcement actual excellently and mixes inside with most instrument panel lights. The multiplicity of voices is limited and I found the male voice, in order to have most clarity over road noises. Other rezensenten itself-turned about it you to form wishing and weighted a taking of alternate routings. This happens, if you are close of a highway and preselected you "fastest way" by the menu. If you prefer secondary roads, preselect then "shortest way" from the menu. You are also preselected, if you show too much information about your way. Too many gas stations, motel, etc. etc. really wipe the road out on the announcement. The menu of the characteristics is also changed to be gone in order to describe here, therefore is the first thing, which I would be recommended, on line and out of the manual to print at least pages 1 to 34. I just love this GPS it is a real darling. I had to change some of the defaults to get the results that I needed. One of the options I had to select was plan fastest route. Once I did this the GPS consistently selected the quickest routes.
Nice to download all of the latest map updates for free.


Good starter GPS
It's sleek and easy to use. The maps are 95% accurate. I think the 5% would improve if I sync it with my computer. My unit does not connect to the satellite immediately. It needs to wait about 2 minutes for it to get going. My friend has the same unit and she doesn't have any problems with it. I haven't investigated this issue further since it doesn't really bother me. I'll try to upgrade the firmware to version 2 and see what happens to it. It does not have the text-to-speech function (pronouncing the street names), bluetooth and the screen is a bit small. If you want a fancier GPS, stay away from this. Overall, this is a great "bare bones" GPS under $150. If you are paying more than $150, you might as well get the deluxe version.


TomTom One Third Ed. 3.5" Portable GPS
I bought this popular equipment for my son. Although this government inspection department was one of the fundamental, few expensive models (over Weihnachtszeit), it serves the purpose and works well. Its screen is much free and, I believes, TomTom is a good mark. Last December, was sold out this individual part in memory within my range and on incomplete order with Amazon.com, but it was dispatched to us rather as anticipated. Bravo for the service! Note to Amazon: UPS should not leave packages of a certain value on to type character box at the end a route to be left; they should be supplied to the entry door.


Maps not very accurate, not much map detail
Overall works pretty well, but has some problems and I prefer the Garmin nuvi 200. Though no GPS is perfect.

In comparison to the 200, this model:

+ Finds satellites much quicker, and can sometimes even find them when indoors.
+ More accurately knows your current position. The 200 sometimes has to guess, and may place you in the wrong spot on the map, then jump to the proper place when it figures out where you really are.
+ Lets you customize the usage of space on the bottom of the screen. (Choose which info shows there) But still doesn't have good options to use the whole screen, or almost the whole screen, for the map.

- For where I drive (big U.S. city) has less accurate maps, including a few strange errors such as where streets don't seem to connect.
- Does not allow as much map detail on the screen. I much prefer the 200 for this.
- Not as nice a setup to mount to windshield, in my opinion.
- Thicker unit, when removed from mounting plastic.
- Does not allow a "via point" when routing.
- No SD card slot.


Works Great Needs Little Improvements
This bought for Christmas, since the price on Amazon was perfect. Used the individual part for more rueber 1 month with very small objections. The system, which is worked on to the right from the box and for the price, strikes everything out there. I recommend this input stage unit in high of degrees. I do not need MP3 or other fantastic accessory equipment. It is exact to approximately 15 foot. I legend that my only objection was the battery life (approximately 4 hours) and those is comes not with a case. It takes also approximately 30 seconds, in order to locate the satellites after beginning, but that is not a large agreement. I would buy also a universal loading unit, which fits in your USB, car or annexe. Per: User friendliness, Download illustrates free updates from free Google (only business). InterNet interface. Cons: The battery life sucks, does not come not with autoloading unit or box.


Very good and a bargain
I have been using my TomTom one version 3 for a month now and love it. It was easy to use right out of the box and is as good a basic navigator as you can get. If you want good basic navigation, don't care about traffic updates or an MP3 player in the device- this is the one.


Don't Bother With Points of Interest or Correcting Errors.
If you make the same error, which I made from the purchase of this, for USING you IT IN a RANGE HER AM WITH FAMILIAR and then to the knowledge the many disturbances of the points of the interest take. Do not use it within a range not trusted. I do not make believe that it does not come with this warning! Then if you disturbances find, repair fair attempt and them. They see, why them to exist. It is nearly impossible. Only occasional categories show above, when you try to repair them. Addresses are far away given the names of the city miles. Call TomTom? Much luck. They explain to you that there is government inspection department disturbances and if long enough waits you it are repaired. How I said, take not this on a journey, but enjoy you it as odd small toy, in order to also play in the car. My son's TomTom
My son received the TomTom as a Christmas gift and he just loves it. It is easy to use and fun to experiment with. I borrowed it and found it frustrating at times as I was told to turn around when I didn't want to. It overall is helpful and easy to use.


Value for money - does the job.
This is my 2. Government inspection department and ichBIN completely with its achievement - particularly paid for the price I for this - $125 with Amazon contently. There are other models, which have a landlord of the characteristics such as player MP3, bluetooth, ipod compatibility etc. etc.. However if you wish straight only navigation, these it quite. The satellite signal acquisition is very fast, since this has the good sirfStar chip set III, which is everything, which affairs. The diagram accuracy could be better. In reality the road that I live on, on this government inspection department is wrong. Nice thing is that you can yourselves repair the diagram, and divide your corrections with other users in addition. I hope in the time TomTom recognize the error and communicate him publicly. This has diagrams of US and of Canada, in the comparison with similarly estimated models, which have only the USA. It had not spoken road name. Great Buy, Great Product
This is wonderful government inspection department a unit, and the price cannot be impact! This gives the whole functionality, which everyone, which drives necessities, at low costs. This is the second government inspection departments unit, which I possessed with TomTom and I could not be luckier with the unit. I bought a second unit for my wife. Compaired to min and other marks, this unit are simpler to follow with nice large graphics and are not too chatty.


The mystery of the blank screen at startup
When I opened my holiday present, I whooped with joy. For a couple of months, I'd really wanted a portable GPS device. Now it was mine.
Unfortunately, my shiny new TomTom One is defective. Funny, everytime I start it, I get a blank screen. So to get the wished-for startup screen, I have to reset the TomTom EVERYTIME with the tip of a paperclip, neatly targeted at a tiny hole at the bottom of the device. Magnifying glass anyone? Whassup with that?
I sifted through the site and finally found the Customer Service contact information. Sorry, phone support is open during East Coast business hours (5:30 am-4 pm Pacific time) and on Saturday until 2 pm PT, a bit rough on West Coasters who say work in an office and can't exactly run outside during the phone call to check whether finally their once hopeful device functions as it should.
So I emailed Customer Service and in return received an email admitting that "we are aware of this issue." As a peace offering, here is a link to distinctively non-user friendly instructions about correcting this little error. Not surprisingly, the instructions didn't help.
I'm stunned that TomTom can sell a product that is known to be defective, right out of the box. Draw your own conclusions about whether you should buy it.

I bought this unit to replace a stolen Garmin Streetpilot i2. The TomTom has a larger, color screen and a touch screen interface. Compared to the Garmin, which has a form factor reminiscent of an angular baseball, the TomTom is sleeker, most notably in depth, making it much easier to put in a pocket, though I would recommend a case, given the touchscreen's potential fragility. The POI database does leave something to be desired, though that's not a deal breaker for me. The interface is quite intuitive, and the night mode, which changes the colors as well as changing the brightness of the unit helps keep the device from being to distracting in driving after dusk. Thus far, the basemap has proven accurate around Boston, despite the variability of the roads. Volume is more than adequate, albeit not quite as loud as the Garmin was at the top end. With respect to the matter of it saying that it was recalculating when doing so, I found that to be largely frustrating and obtrusive on the Garmin, so I actually prefer that this unit doesn't have such a notification. Apart from some differences which will just take some acclimation, such as the way it directs in roundabouts, I've been quite happy with my TomTom One, and it's an excellent value to boot.

Note: Mapshare (a brilliant idea, btw), which corrects the map with confirmed updates uploaded by users is included free on this device, but only for a year after the date of registration.

Very good input stage government inspection department Nav unit. Visual display and audio level are exellent. The battery life (2 hours) is an interest, but, is been not an expenditure up to now. It would be nice to let the unit indicate to the names upcoming of the revolution road however this not much an expenditure, any, was because of the voice within the prescribed period COMMAND interface can confusing sometimes be, but, possibly it needs only little practice to compile. I purchased this item for my brother in California who said he would never buy one. But when we were in Portland last spring he drove and drove for blocks looking for places he wanted to find and he wasted so much time and gas that I decided he needed one. His wife was reading a map and they would argue about which street to take. Now they use it all the time and are thrilled with it. No more arguments and so much time and energy saved. We never buy each other gifts for Christmas anymore, but I just had to do it for he and his wife. I am so glad I did.

overall quite happy with the product. the first one sent would not boot up w/o reset, but support was very good and a new one was shipped promptly and worked w/o problems. notice routes are not right on known drives, so am dubious for unknown drives. but i'm sure paying with the alternative routes will help.


Excellent value
I bought this certain government inspection department, because I supply to houses for a small medical device company, and I wanted to spend not too much money. Entirely, I think that the paid price is a good value too, which gave me the TomTom MAN ONE. The interface is simple and attaching to a computer is even simpler. The small unit blocked never my opinion and the volume can be enough calm let mine sleep 2-year-old or loud enough over opened windows on the highway with the radio above rise. My interests are approximate that 7% of the address, which I have into it arise a disturbance set. These disturbances have the disturbances represented, which are connected with city as new roads, which are not still recognized of TomTom, call (city A is near city B and TomTom recognizes only address position in city B) and the disturbances, which are connected with wrong road name. Most Bestimmungsoertern is between 20 foot to 100 yards of the actual position. I was not explained that I arrived "correct" in a place of destination. This includes all points of interests. For that I am altogether very content with the achievement.


Good GPS
It provides basic GPS functions. However, it cannot save the routes; it cannot give speeding warning according to the actual speed limit in different street (It can only give speeding warning according to only one self-preset speed limit.)

Sometimes, it shows a strange detour although there is an obvious straight way to go (This problem happened in 20% of trials at the same intersaction).


Tom Tom One Easy To Use and Low Cost GPS
This is a good entry level GPS unit. I bought it as a gift for my wife, who frequently travels for business and she loves it. Its easy to use and she was able to upload new maps / updates from Tom Tom. Its small enough to put into her purse when she leaves the car. It talks, and has the areas that are 'newer' in our town. It was purchased on black friday from Amazon for $125 and it is money well spent.

Also you can personifizieren it, by changing the new voices downloaden and diagrams, if it is needed. The Cons is more from A, "it its nicely would have" however not agreement circuit breakers a text speech: This is, if the unit reads to receive the road name and the motorways your trying, on. This does not seem like a large agreement... however, if you have some small roads, or motorway exits together close, and the unit says "revolution right", it can disturbing few be. Bluetooth: I think that the preceding versions bluetooth however not 3. I received this for my wife for a gift. She loves it. It always called me during on the road. The only problem is that there is much of the missing roads and I, has out, how one updates to explain.

Why I like this product:
- I got it at $150 shipped.
- Ability to calculate directions in many possible ways (hence, I can plan my trip more efficiently from point A->B->C and so on.)
- 2D or 3D view, night mode, & has a running demo of your route.
- Ability to automatically increase the volume as you drive faster.
- Ability to edit or make corrections to the map.

Why I dislike this product:
- Short-life battery (about 2 hours).
- Limited POI database & some outdated entries! (I highly recommended TomTom to work on updating this!!)
- When just turning the device on, sometimes it takes up-to 2 minutes plus to lock onto a signal!
- I cannot edit the address on "my favorites" (the options are only 'Rename' or 'Delete')
- Does not support text-to-speech functionality, which speaks the actual street names rather than generic directions. But you can set on preference so you can see the street names appears on the screen.


Love it.

Great System, Great Maps, Very accurate!
I love this system. the maps from tele atlas are very accurate, and it has millions of POI's. Very reliable, tomtom is a wonderful and extremely reliable brand. The user interface is very easy to use, and I love the easy functionality. Highly recommend this system.


Fast but lacks POIs
I used a min V for the last five (5) years. It is old, LCD, slow, limited memory, but it has ALL memory, salons, business with addresses and telephone numbers in the diagrams, which I loaded, and it received me there. My new Tom Tom a 3. Expenditure is FAST, is it color, speaks it with me in a pleasant voice, and it is inexpensive, but it can receive me, where I would not like to go. Before it not my office knows, means hairdresser salon and 7 other business to find, the I frequently and since fair is Christmas (10 days). They do not seem to be in the POI data base. I mark my position in the work, but she cannot steer there, because there is no ROAD in the park lot; I must retrace the same way to the naehsten road. Never such problems with my old, ugly, min had.


Great Hardware - Terrible Software
The tomtom one 3rd edition I got for Christmas works great. A perfect little device for finding your way around. However, as a mac user I am used to things simply working and the mac software for the tomtom simply doesn't work. It was able to recognize the tomtom once connected, but beyond that... nothing. I purchased a new voice and downloaded it to the tomtom home software. It wouldn't install. After two frustrating emails back and forth with tomtom tech support, I tried to call. The line was actually busy, yes, busy for more than an hour worth of trying. Finally, after another hour of trying to find additional web support, I got through on the phone. However, even the tomtom tech could not get the downloaded voice to install. I removed the tomtom home software and re-installed it, deleted files all with the tech support help, and it still wouldn't install the voice. The tomtom tech actually told me that if this last tip didn't work that the only way to install the voice was to switch to a pc for my connection. Brilliant! I was finally directed to another website that walked through a manual file transfer that did the trick. However, the long and short of it is... the mac tomtom home software does not work. I am told by tomtom that a mac update is coming up early in 2008. Let's hope so, otherwise, from my point of view, the tomtom home software for mac, is worthless.


Had a problem, but resolution was painless
I received one from these for Christmas and unfortunately win had the problem ' of the white screen ' that some other rezensenten reported on have. (unit must be reset, every time you switch it on, or, you received stuck to a vacant white screen), which is good part of the history, which a short call resulted in sending to the Tomtom customer service it being, to me immediately a new unit, BEFORE it my old in the exchange recieving. More as if I could have hoped for. Like that this is not a report of the product at itself, but a straight note that it was rather painless, my defective product to receive replaces. - ike9898


Disappointing - switching to Garmin
Over the diagrams are strictly outdated (a main street, three years was accomplished forwards, does not exist not from this unit, but exists from Garmins preloaded diagram in the Nuvi 200 row), the unit is not easily removable from the suction verge, and nav the voice warns you not to receive at EACH exit on the intergovernmental away. "the maintenance, which" is left at each exit (particularly if the exits are frequent), receives really old fast. Finally and most importantly, the unit, which only the correct place of destination on one of the first three addresses became it was led, given.


A good GPS
I bought this GPS last month. I used it for several times and it works fine. I can find my destination with the help of this GPS.

One disadvantage might be that you can not input the name of the place directly into the GPS. For example, you can not input xxx University. You must know the street and number.

In all, this is an affordable GPS with all basic function of other GPS.


Great Navigation
I bought this for my journey to California, while it prepared really more inexpensive, than, renting a government inspection department of the car hire place for the time quantity, which I rented. Didnt I have a reference point, as one around San Francisco steer and this piece were literally amazing. The one only expenditure, which I have, is it takes sometimes a little long, in order to check a way, if you take a wrong revolution, but different it a large piece for the price is, which you pay.

I have other government inspection departments units, which cost MANY more, than the TomTom a 3. Expenditure tries and I this unit over the others prefers. This small system is very affordable and is very exact. The screen is nice in each possible light and "favourite" the function is cool. Good free speech with volume control in the preferences. This is a large unit for someone, which wishes a simple navigation system. Largely for business or for school. They cannot go with the TomTom wrongly a 3rd expenditure.

Well..... I never had one of these devices before. We take the Cons first. I expected to plan in the situation zuSEIN, a way on my Mac and to bring him on the TomTom. I spent much time on the InterNet, which looks for unit for a good navigation. I terminated above with this a cause for the price and which you receive, there the best is. I recieved it in the post office and her is everything, which I and more wished. For everyone, which approximately purchase think one thinks, navigation unit to these because of the price, size of, functions it, which go fair inclination wrongly.


No text to speech - no problem!
I have read so many reviews about text to speech and its advantages. GPS units that do not have text to speech will give you directions in distance as opposed to saying the street names. For example: "After 350 yards, turn left." Street names are displayed on screen though. The TomTom 3rd edition does not have text to speech, but for $129.99 (black Friday sale price on Amazon.com) you can't go wrong.

This is my first GPS unit. I was a little hesitant about not having text to speech because I want to keep my eyes on the road, not on the GPS unit. I soon realized that I did not have to look at the GPS unit often. This TomTom will tell you to turn left after 350 yards, but as you approach the street, it will tell you to turn left, again. When driving on expressways / highways, it will display your exit in the upper right hand corner of the screen. It will tell you to get into the right lane to prepare for the exit, and will tell you to exit when it approaches.

After using this unit several times now, I realize that not having text to speech is not really a big deal. This unit is very light weight, has a very nice screen, and has a very nice windshield mount. Unlike other bulky windshield mounts with a long flexible arm, this windshield mount is very small, which keeps the GPS discrete. You can also stick the mount onto the dash.

I didn't give it 5 stars because of the fact that TomTom advertises that you can update the maps anytime for free. It is only free for 30 days.

excellent government inspection department for the money!!! it had, since Christmas seems however, good to only work on only problem is up to now so good that there are not agricultural house numbers I lives in Illinois and my dad lives in the country as I into his address me set, up to now said it that there are not house numbers on its road it took me to the cross road, where I turn in order to its house will go I tomtom, in order to see, if it gives a diagram update or with something associates this problem to repair this model also gives, you, switches road on call out to, but it explains to you, when one turns I thought that this prroblem would be, but it is not this thing explains to you much acuratly, when one turns it explains you, when one turns mile before the road over one half on the other hand, if you do not arrive at the road government inspection departments are her perfectly, which have all errors whether you spend $150 or $700 this are a large beginner model I it to everyone would recommend.


Tom Tom one GPS
I was really Really Impressed with the features and ease of use of this product. I have an older more expensive unit that doesnthave all the features this unit does. It knows all the streets and shortcuts. I am going to buy another for my other car.


Great unit, if it works.
Worked on large, for days of a pair. Then all, which I received, when I was the unit to a white screen turned. I reset it, as per the on-line support, and are adequate them. But, whenever I close, I must reset it, in order to receive it, in order to switch on without the white screen. Now I must send back it. Yuk.

I gave this GPS to my husband for Chrsitmas, and he loves it.
The Tomtom One 3rd edition is so easy to use and has many features. We bought a Nav-Mat so we could use it on the dashboard of our mini van.
I also like the price, I have already told my friends to buy it!


WS of D Here as well!
I'm not a competitor. I'm a user. Got this unit on the 14th of December for a December 25 present. Actually started using it on the 27/28. I even attached the unit to my computer and updated all internal software. And yes, every power cycle I got the WS of D (White Screen of Death). Would have to press the reset button to get around this to power up again each and every time!

Took it back for a refund (Walmart has it for $148. Amazon is too high at over $200!). Will wait for merchandise restock, and will try again. Outside the WS of D it's a fun unit, and I'll try it again.


Great Item
Tom tom one works on large, does everything, you in a navigation system needs and receives you, where you must go. It is not very exact with directions and has good clay/tone to use to the right is also very simply, from the box, necessary, and very compact installations out. I am very lucky with this product.


ONLY ONE PROBLEM
This is a good government inspection department Nautiker, particularly for the price. The only material problem, which I had with it, is, it must be reset each time it is switched on! Thus I placed it, switches it on then back. The diagram is normally quite, but occasionally the instructions for mouth "maintenance right", if really it shows me say, in order to hold left somehow (?!)., I are 55 years old and, to have been lost more times, than I can to count and include in each capital in Georgia or in Florida at least once. It is wonderful straight, able zuSEIN, where I am and as one receives to be seen back too, where I would like to be. Up to now I think that the money is well spent.

I bought this government inspection department before black Friday, this year. EsIST adequately. Straight two problems: the battery cannot run 2 hours long, if you do not clog to the autoloading unit; the automatic selcetion the clearance program can sucks.

A great bang for the buck!
I read alot of reviews before I bought this TT1 GPS. I was about to return it before I even opened it (after reading about the "white screen of death") but I decided to open it and try it based on the 4 stars average rating.

I discovered that the totally negative ratings were probably competitors trying to discourage people from buying it. it's a great GPS, works in doors !!!. I'm very happy with it.

* Pluging the GPS into the car charger will keep the unit alive (if the battery as they say lasts for two hours)
* You don't need a manual to operate it, the menus are very easy to brows through.
* Street names, voice instructions and quickness of directions and corrections to route, night/day colors, accuracy, size of screen and speed of receiving a fix are all great.

I also own Navman for pockec PC & Microsoft street & Maps 2008 with GPS.
This $150.00 GPS is a great investment.




Works great!
Easy to use. When you hook it up to your PC, it works like a flash drive. You install the PC software right off the device. It auto updates. Many options for maps, voice and POI(points of interest) can be down loaded beyond the set thats comes with the unit. Has an option for user updated maps thast downloaded thru your PC and updated to the device. Good for road work and ect.

Easy to use!
This is my first GPS unit and I was really happy with how easy it is to use. Touch screen and very intuitive menus. Everyone should have a GPS unit, they're very handy for all types of travelers.

TT Service and White Screen of Death
Brought a TT one 3rd Edition for my brother. He got the white screen of death the second time he tried using it. Took three days to get hold of TT service, but when we did they stated that they would ship out a new unit within 3-5 days and once we got the new unit we could ship back the bad unit. Ok if the new is good and if we get the unit within 3-5 days then Tom Tom has stepped up to fix the problem they created. Also talked to Amazon service, they were great. got a hold of them on first try and they stated we could ship back the bad unit up until 31 Jan.

Great little gadget!
We had the TomTomOne, which is enterprising in some minutes. To set up, and use was simple. It accomplished flawlessly at our first weekend journey. The audio was clearly and simple to understand and it by the Aufschirm directions was supported. It is fundamental, but that is good for first. The complete family was intrigued my 6 by it, expecially year old granddaughter, who enjoyed, if it heard the different tones and the voices, which be programmed can.


Mac Users Beware
I've had very good luck with my TomTom One, Version 3, for traveling around North America. However my difficulties started when I purchased European maps for upcoming business travel and found out that since I'm a Mac user and not a Windows PC owner, I would NOT be able to download and install any map upgrades. TomTom One technicians advised me to find a Windows unit, load my TomTom One program, access my account, download the necessary maps and then transcribe them to my Mac laptop somehow. My flight leaves in three days and I'm just going to get a Garmin Nuvi 270 (transatlantic) model instead, and sell off this less than 4 month old TomTom.

If any of you are currently using a Mac lap or desk top, consider holding off on this unit until they come up with a compatible way to access all their upgrades.

This received right after to the holidays. It was $149 of a local office supply memory. Which is ironical, it is that a memory, three memory more rueber, which had same unit for $249! Around buy I had some calls to form, until I found in stock. The unit is elegant to use simply and works out to the right from the box. It overcomes something documents with suction verge, cigar lighter cable, as one keeps and cables begun to a USB. But really, you can them straight attach and go. I did not know that the unit was more or less an independent little sharp drive. They can receive free updates, and change some on-line things. Which is tidy, it is that the unit can run on a PC (the PC as the interface using). The unit selfbrought on most PC on and the interface is simple to use. Documents (advanced characteristics) its on-line. Its 2008 does not expect a full "book" up, how one uses it. You do not need it sincerely. Around received is simply understandably, free, and. I wished not bluetooth, extra maps, FM over intermediary, and other bells and Whistles, wished I a straight simple to use government inspection department in my car - this keeps the work settled with Muehelosigkeit. The announcement is clear, is the keys simply to be worked, and the diagram choice of route is simple. I tried some other units in the memory, before I received this. This is 3. Up to date, easy to use.
I bought the TomTom a 3. Expenditure for my married man as its first government inspection department. I based mean acquisition on a recommendation of consumer report. We were impressed pleasantly with its user friendliness and accuracy. I had tried to find a way on MapQuest and held to take me to a road which was I over closed one year before by the structure of a highway knew. The TomTom shifted me exactly around on an evenly formed road, which did not exist from MapQuest. We learn still all characteristics, but up to now, it lives up to the evaluations.

Good Value for Money
This is a very compact unit with very intutive user interface.

Once, I opened the box it took me about 10 minutes to set it up and it was ready for use.

Good things... very compact, easy to carry along, easy to use, easy to set up gives you next two turn information (audio), and 25 yard before turn gives you audio clue that you have to make a turn or take exit, good information about the point of interests including phone number

Not so good... does not say name of the street you need to make a turn, if you miss the turn does not give you audio signal saying that recalculating route, when arriving at you destination it does not say which side of the street your destination is.

Overall I am satisfied with this GPS device and I recommend to buy if, you are looking for something simple and inexpensive.

Repeated many devices. This is not only the best government inspection department and I needed or even wishes bluetooth functions, MP3 or video abilities. Largely, if you are on the road and the good integration with the PC.


SHE LOVES IT!
I bought the TomTom for my mother for Christmas. She called me yesterday and told me she had never had a more fun ride home in her life! She deviated from her home since she had to fill up her tank and do some other errands and TomTom did not miss a beat in guiding her wherever her location.


How did I ever get around without it?
I received this TomTom one (3rd expenditure) to WOW WOW WOWS as weihnachtsgeschenk (for me). I LOVE IT! ! ! I wear it always, if I drive around, and it it brings me new ways with to go, always evenly to the places that I am gone too for 20 years?!?!?! I always thought that "I do not need none stinkin ' government inspection department. I know my way around my city." I was injustice (3 hardest words to say to at all?)

They cannot go with this very friendly simple straight wrongly to use government inspection department. Each possible person, who remains doing even away from everything, with a key edition, should enjoy it.


Tom Tom One - Pretty Good GPS
They may not keep the package opened. Much secure free plastic containment. The Tom Tom 1 is very good. To use very simply; like the road name directions or attitude of a position did not advance characteristics as registering it, if you are there. However the voices are distinguished and the revolution instructions are exact. Only with accessory verge and the loading cable of the car comes. They must order case and alternating current loading unit separately. Very good, economic device. I recommend it.


No Frills GPS
This is a great GPS. I also have a Garmin so am able to compair the two. The TomTom maps seem more up to date than the Garmin maps. I am not sure why garmin is so far behind in this respect. I have also had better luck with routing on the TomTom. All in all this GPS is a good GPS. TomTom, no matter which model you buy, out-performs Garmin in my opinion.


Nice GPS at a budget price
I bought the TomTom one (3rd production) in November 2007, it am a nice inexpensive government inspection department. It functioned very well and I does not know from a better government inspection department at this point of price with comparable characteristics. In high of degrees recommended! That being means, it some Verschrobenheiten has: - if you into urban neighbourhoods with houses 3-story at one rainy/cloudy day drive, could last it when, until the government inspection department receives its first Satelliten"Verriegelung". As soon as it has this output bolting device, it is very steady and it will not lose. But I literally drove some miles into San Francisco, without to receive output bolting device, which sucks, if you do not know, where you go. - it did not mean a "text to the speech" characteristic and that it does not say "revolution to the left on Folsom road" however "left revolution in 200 yards". No large agreement normally, but on motorway entrances of this can be really confusing, particularly if there are several from them in the short order. The TomTom says to "taking the motorway" (, motorway, even if sentence to American English) in place of "taking highway 101". If there are two ramps, you must estimate one to highway 101 and one to the highway 280 (or one to 101 north and one to 101 south) which it meant or the announcement regard. - you must the "on" key for approximately 5 seconds to the unit operate to switch on. If you liked to go to 65 MPH on and switch the government inspection department, that is approximately 150 yards when driving with a hand. - you must affect the announcement 4mal and jump by 3 screens to steer around it and to let fair announcement stop the diagram. - the dissolution of the announcement is, usually you sees only approximately 2 crossings low. - leave if you it to the 2-D mode to switch and it the diagram indicate, so that the north is on the top side, becomes it uselessly, because it can write road name only horizontal. This disk did not last long in my car, the weakened adhesive and the disk got the instrument panel. I bought a "entlueftungsoeffnung verge" from MFX instead of, which can be worked on pretty wells and removed completely (although that requires fiedelndes some). If you, with this list of objections in the understanding, are called out illustration, if you can live with them and if, go it buying well!


Customer Service Nightmare
The device functions well enough, however their customer service is not acceptable by each human standard. I received this for Christmas as gift, but customer service educated me to email her a receipt as proof of the acquisition for an expenditure for diagram, her would take the units seriennummer not as proof. I had to ask my parents to make a blueprint a receipt and an email it to me. Once done with that, they said that I would know RH-DOWNLOADE my diagrams, but not for approximately two days because of the Pfostenweihnachtsunterstuetzungsueberlastung on their operators. I sit so here with an useless TomTom. Receive a min, it can be more expensive, but at least you can with someone speak, around it to receive regulated. ::update:: I should drop it to thrash to a star. After other 2 days of the repeated calls to the customer service, mine sits tomtom still defective. There is a reason, why these units are compared with other so inexpensive. TomTom cut very large corners in the customer service avoid you.


TomTomOne 3rd Edition, I would not recommend this Gps
I received this government inspection department as Crristmas gift. After opening and finding kind of the manual, in order to refer, I did not try, to read the unit freestyle. To steer enough and I were simple had fun learning to use it. However as I the unit turned off and tried to turn it back on, received I the white screen of death. This happened repeated and I read small undetailed brochure of the instructions, which were them enough friendly, for the customer to surround. She suggests "in the rare" cases, which can to have to reset you the unit, if they do not switch on correctly can. Seem they knew that this happened, therefore the tip I tried there to receive assistance over the web site which was to be steered terriblly hard. Their to designate customer service was also tried, but on influence for more rueber 20 minutes. Those was my delimitation. Answered nobody, thus I hung above. Thus I decided immediately to return it the day to Christmas and receive still something. I selected that Magellan 1200 as re-installation. Up to now so well with this government inspection department. It seems to be "user friendly" more. I did not lose anything, since they were the same price and I did one even exchange.


Tom Tom is good good
First of all, this is my first government inspection department and I has no different one to also compare to it therefore I will not weight me that it is not as good as ", whatever". I received a 3 to the Tom Tom. Expenditure as early weihnachtsgeschenk and used it for one approximately week now. As my first government inspection department I am very much impressed. The first day used I it, which we went visiting relatives somewhere the fact that I had never been before and I wrote in the address and her quite to the front door took us! Since at that time has it nearly flawlessly accomplished, while I used it around city. The only expenditures, which are I had that the battery life is quite short at two hours, but the autoloading unit is, in order to adjust. It does not have my home address in the diagram. The house was there for two years now, but does not have only the cross roads and our partitioning exists according to Tom Tom. I a correction by diagram portion submitted, but who can, long it to the update takes. Since it is simple my house I, select crosstreets as my home address, but I could see, how this could be a problem, if someone tried to use the government inspection department in order me to find, since my address does not exist! Differently than that it was a wonderful tool which can be had and becomes fast something, which I have always with me. It helped me to find restaurants in the city shows it even icons of the restaurants such as Mcdonalds and Wendys and the gas stations, like upper section thus you to know, when they are near on, where you are. We wanted to go to eat during from city and geschauenen above to points of the interest out and saw a Cracker barrel, which was registered, preselected to him and it calculated automatically a way of, which we were right for the park lot of the Cracker barrel. My wife, who is a technophobe, even loved it. I would recommend the technology for everyone, but you must buy around, in order to see, which characteristics well your needs to fulfill. If you wish a fundamental, cheap government inspection department, which I would then recommend the Tom Tom a 3rd expenditure, but, if you wish more bells and Whistles, them, must other where look.


Tom Tom beats Garmin like a drum!
I have had a Garmin for about two years and hate it. I got the Tom Tom One for Christmas and right out of the box it was ready to go. I downloaded the voice of John Cleese (Monty Python Flying Circus) and he is hilarious...makes for some humor while driving.

Customer Service gets two thumbs up! Called them the day after Christmas because I downloaded an updated map that was corrupt. Within 5 minutes of calling, Amanda was helping me clear the corrupted file on my GPS unit and my computer and she downloaded a clean map update directly to my account for free. Shortly thereafter my Tom Tom was back up and working great!

Don't know why anyone would be hung up on having the text to speech feature. If you are driving you shouldn't be reading your GPS you should be watching the road. It only takes 1 second of your eyes leaving the road to have an accident.

The screen clearly displays the road, the next turn in miles, and the voice guides you a head of time when to turn and then again when it is time to turn. Duh...a no-brainer and requires no reading while driving. If it got any simpler a Caveman could do it.

For $149 it is no frills but does get the job done nicely. I really don't want or need a GPS unit to play my iPod and run my cell phone for me...I just need directions so I don't get lost! lol


Outstanding GPS Device
I love this device! The user interface is very simple to use and directions inputing is simple. The device acquires a satellite signal very fast. The diagrams are very exact and 3. Expenditure comes with the most current versions. The egg paste life could be a little more longer, but it is not really a problem, if you keep your unit attached during the use, like I. There are tons to POIs and its surprising, how frequently you really use her. I would recommend definitely this device to a friend, who searches to a cheap government inspection department.

The tomtom One is a great basic GPS for those who are looking for a simple to use guide to get you to where you are going. This model is for the same people who buy a cell phone to make and recieve calls and don't care to use all the other bells and whistles.

pros-
1. compact size and light weight means that it is easily portable. The 3.5 inch screen may seem too small but it doesn't block your vision if you have it windsheild mounted.
2. Fast connection to the sattellite
3. Doesn't distract you with endless chatter...just the important stuff
4. pc software is easy to use/navigate

cons-
1. Only pre-loaded with US/Guam maps...should be enough for most people though.
2. Small internal memory means that downloading additional maps means you will have to delete something else. (saved to your pc though)
3. Screen is small and difficult to see in direct sunlight...but this seems to be a problem with all GPS units.
4. Doesn't say the name of streets but this isn't a huge drawback

Basically the Tomtom ONE is a good low cost unit for first time GPS users...my 82 year old father actually figured out how to use the basic functions and always takes it with him on trips. The fast reliable sat connection, ease of use, user friendliness (doesn't freak out or get confused if you don't follow its directions exactly)and low cost make this unit recommended.


Very intuitive, easy to use
I set this up on my computer in no time, I was able to download the voice of Mr T and he now tells me where to go when I get lost. It is very simple to add favorites, navigate to addresses. The only issue I have with it is that it can't get colder than 15 Celcius, which is too bad because now I can't leave it in the car in the winter. Very useful for driving to places I'm not sure about though.


Best GPS for the price
TomTom one, 3. Expenditure is our first government inspection department. Coming in address data are simple. After attaching to computer, it updates independently. Sometimes it gives you different local direction, but it checks fast. Excellent product for the price. We found lowest price on Amazon.com


Disappointed.... The White Screen of Death Strikes
The Tom Tom bought one for car my woman. I kept an agreement thought. When I switched on and examined it first, I liked really. Unfortunately it descended hills from there. After I had closed away it, and, to switch it on, received I had again tried the white screen of death. After reading off a number of Tom Tom forums, I inserted her back into the box and brought her too radio-chop back. Of course I am not pleased, and my evaluation indicates. But I liked the interface, the screen and the entire function of the Tom Tom, think I of going and receiving the TT of a XLS with the 4.5-Zoll-Schirm. Credit no main objections over these found. Hope of everyone had a better experience with the gifts, which bought it for their wives!


Defecive
TomTom shipped a large quantity of these knowing they are defective. Every time you turn it on it locks up in a White Screen of Death (WSD) and you must use a paper-clip or some other pointy object to press the reset button. Mine was like this, my brothers and apparently as many as a thousand others according to several references I found when I searched the internet. Yes, Tomtom claims they will replace these with new units if you send it back and wait a week. But I don't believe they send new units. What are they going to do with the defective units. And their web site is off-line now that Xmas is over. I going to return it. Also, they imply that you get free map updates forever but when I opened the package I found it's only for one year. Try to find this in their literature.


High disappointment - White screeen at power on
Unit shows white screen and the forces, which are reset on if it, propels. Give change apparent on some specific seriennummern only, but I received one of them for weihnachtsgeschenk. Not well. Of course of Amazon earns very high praise for the treatment of the problem well and accepting the return without shipping loads up. Well getaner Amazon!


Buyer Beware: Warning on the 3rd Edition
Just got the 3rd Edition ONE TOMTOM for Christmas. There is a widespread problem with products containing 48 in the serial number. When you turn on the GPS, you get a white screen. You have to reboot the system EVERY other time you turn on the unit.

When you contact TOMTOM, they are requesting you send the unit to them, and they will replace it, but it will take more than two weeks.

As of today, Dec 27, no notice has been posted on their website. BAD customer service on TOMTOM's part.

Great Unit, But Entire Batches are Defective!
This received for Christmas and it is a wonderful government inspection department, as in many other reports indicated. Excellent one characteristics and user friendliness for a large price. However it seems that thousands and thousands of these of the factory are defective (it meine)IST inclusively adequately, which first times you switch on it, but afterwards, if you are switched on for you, the "white screen of death you receive," or to WSD. They must press the resetting key with a paper clip then, in order to receive it, in order to work. Differently than this the unit works on large. A call for the TomTom support and approximately 30min von Haltezeit to arrive receive a friendly and friendly person, who offers you to RMA # for a re-installation unit, which is said immediately, to you in order in some weeks over one pre paid draw in Fed ex dispatch. Apparent it is a well-known expenditure and TomTom supports completely reinstalls for all defective units without controversy. Everything in all is it a large and smooth government inspection department, but MANY of them are defective. 5 stars if not for the problems.

I had more fun than all all abilities of the TomTomOne for a long time learning. It is so informative and exact that it is amazing. I ride credit of a discussion with my wife along (by the way this is my first government inspection departments device somehow the kind), if TomTom suddenly says that "bear" and we approach here to the left to a column in the road that I had not really directed much attention on when driving to the house of its daughter. And as we physically into the drive pulled, were we "at your place of destination!" I bought the TomTom for it, because she keeps konfus and and really went the wrong way easily frustrated around city on an intergovernmental belt, which drives to their other head daughter, who had driven her too several times before. It was overjoyed and believes now that it keeps never again lost. I feel good that she feels safer and comfortable and that the assistance characteristic and a telephone you help cell from the difficulties fast.


TomTom is GreatGreat
We are very impressed with this...especially for the price!! $150.00 is cheap compared to those expensive ones. This little thing does everything we want and more. I can't think of another feature i would want or need. Plus we can download Mr. T voice and have him tell us how to get to where we need to be A+++++++

Tom Tom does what it claims to do. Only in begining stages of learning all the functions but what I know it can do is well worth the investment.


Very Nice for Price!
I researched many brands of GPS before finally deciding on the TomTom One 3rd edition. With the price being $150 at Best Buy, that helped my decision.

My husband opened it up Christmas day and plugged it straight into the computer to update it and get all the new maps. He then starts to play. The voice is very nice, you can set it to chime in for different buildings you pass, the suction cup holds VERY well, the screen is a very nice/portable size, you can choose a POI that is on your route, and it will reroute you very quickly! A time or two it showed a way we didn't want to go, or a short cut we knew about for our neighborhood and it just picked right up. It told us when to turn and it was right on the money. We have had no complaints at all as of yet. We used it around our city and it worked great. We knew where we were going every time, but we still had fun with the gps.

I would suggest giving the TomTom a try. I know some people say differently, but so far so good for us!


Great GPS
I received this for my son. I had 2 other government inspection departments units. If you search to a simple government inspection department at a large price then, this is it. It has, text not to the speech however is many more inexpensive then units, those. I think that text is to the speech overrated. TTS explains to you to switch on that the name of the road. This unit explains to you to turn into so many yards. E.G. she wil says revolution to the left on the following road, in which TTS would say revolution to the left on being entitled race. My problem with TTS is that I need the government inspection department within the ranges, in which I the names of the roads does not know. So, so that the government inspection department me does not add the name value avowedly. A fast volatile view of the screen explains to you, where one turns. If you search to a fundamental government inspection department of a name mark then, this is it.

Simple negotiation, arrived rather as estimated. Bought, so that new graduate is in that to find their way to the interviews. On my day we learned to read diagrams and remember, at where roads were. Kids must have too much on their understanding today to remind to itself of such things. It is nice with the travel to different cities and during on holidays. My daughter used, when visiting a friend in San Diego was in the situation, a strange city without any problem and even the drive from San Diego to the LA and around this large city without problems to be steered. That is the reason, which I decided in this model.


customer service
This is a great product buttttt I did not get it from Amazon. I was billed from J&R for it and never received it because it was on backorder until after Xmas. I was not happy because it was advertised as being available from Amazon at a certain price and thats what I wanted. I had to purchase it from another company to make sure it would be available for Xmas.

I received this TomTom UNITY for Christmas this year (2007). I had numerous government inspection departments units (min, Magellen, etc..) regarded and I had heard good things over TomTom units of the friends and of the coworkers. To say unnecessarily, I become absolutely AUSGEBRITTEN through, how large this small unit is. It is thin


White Screen Error
apparently most TomTom One V3s have a bug. every time you turn it on after setting your preferences you get a frozen white screen. you have reset the unit EVERY TIME you turn it on in order for it to work. there are TomTom forums on the web now with disappointed Christmas gift givers/ receivers with a bunk product.

Inherently defective
Once I got it working, it functions as it should, with all the great features Tom Tom offers. But after having to use a paper clip to reset EVERY time I turned it on, I looked to the web for troubleshooting. Turns out, it is a common recurring issue for this model. It has become known as the "White Screen of Death" because that is all you see without resetting. E-mails to support went unanswered, and it seemed this was also common amongst others who had the same issue. After only two days, I figured this wasn't worth the trouble. Circiut City took it back no problem. I would stay away from a company that appears to sell a defective product without recalling it or at least supporting it. ...

This is one fantastic lil gizmo -- the wildest thing about it is that it's never lost and knows exactly where you are even if you don't :)
My brother, nephew & I all own one -- and couldn't be happier! No need to pay the extra money for the big screen -- this is plenty big enough! Have talked to people who have purchased other types of GPS and none can compare with how user friendly the Tom Tom is! It was worth every penny to me to know that I'll never be lost again!



The most intuitive device.......
... traf.I've at all on. One must read the complete manual finally immediately, but usable from the box. He comes with a short "snaps initial leaders", but the complete user manual must be downloadet by its place of assembly. The note screen is the netteste, which I used at all. Adjustable volume on voice to considerable loud. Choice of the female and male language kinds. Relatively small sufficient of the screen absolutely because of the fantastischen opinion "3D". I have now no use for my ' way more expensive min 2610 (NO battery! ) this entry level TomTom in considerable extent has superior IMHO. Battery life approximately 2 hour plus, if you are not clogged in 12VDC. I could continue and on, am sufficient you to say, you love it.


White screen of death
This received for a weihnachtsgeschenk. It seemed, first adequately zuSEIN, but first impressions lead sometimes.....: (err after the manufacturing of my first test journey, turned I the unit off and entered into my place of destination. When I returned to the car and switched the unit on, in order to waive the journey, the screen was not visable. The only thing in the opinion was a white screen, although the unit apparent still worked. I did a google search for these syptoms and was agast on, which I found. Why didn't TomTom take these disturbing units off from the shelves? Why???? HAVING CRAZE! I took it back to the memory, her was bought and bought to Magellan the Roadmate 1200. up to now so well there.


A basic GPS navigator for most of us
This is the second unit, which I and the quarter bought, I with played. There are at least 4 versions of TomTom one: Version 1, 2, 2 "new edition" and 3. They are electronically however very similar to quality control and expenditures for software plague versions 1


great product
I have never used other brand GPS, so I can't give convincing comparisons, but from my driving experience, TOM-TOM is good enough, it gives clear directions and gives you abundant pre-dicision time.


Very good GPS
This is my fisrt GPS. I would give the TomTom One Third Edition high ratings. It is very easy to use and has worked very well for me on several trips.


Bad out of the box
I switch it and it for work on, it the nice and noble view, used I him one hour long, turned I him off and was involved to do something buying and back decrease/go back and it and me put on received a white screen, freeze he, investigated I the expenditure on the InterNet and look the problem am whole over the place with this model. I return the individual part today. However with that hour a consumption I have, loved I it, to work am simply, along and I wished that it is not defective.


Decent Product but not top of the line
None a very good product, but not v exact diagrams. If I arrive to directions at my house, the directions say that I reached my house, as soon as I reach the gate to my community, If, which tried someone to drive to my house with this her not in that am to thus do. have a problem with the map!
I went to Atlanta the day before yesterday and I was lost! I type the address, which I of the InterNet and of the TomTom, which was held on me, to explain found that it could not fit!! I tried some other address and her did the same things me! I hate it. When I went back, I examined the address with google diagram and the whole address was correct! How the TomTom such can have a sucking diagram! Branch before I it one month.

I LIKE REAL the TOM TOM, BECAUSE THERE ARE SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS, WHICH ARE CLEAR. MY MRS HAVING ALWAYS FEAR TO DRIVING, BECAUSE IT THOUGHT IT THAT THEY LOST, BUT NOT WITH TOM TOM A RECEIVING BECAME. IT EXPLAINS DETAILS TO YOU, WHERE MAN ONE TURNS. WE FEELING LIKE IT GOODS a LARGE ACQUISITION FOR US. TO PROGRAMMING IS MUCH SIMPLE. THEY THROUGH IT STEP FOR STEP IS MUCH SLOW. No Way to Make Zoom Stick, it's going back
I had many government inspection departments not again in the morning over the last 5 years and to government inspection department the technology. I was frightened and surprised that there is no way, the zoom shot as personifizierte attitude "cling to let". After some seconds distance of the mile stopped zoom shot the screen back inside to an internal approximately 1/2. I find this quite annoying completely not acceptable and. If I liked to adjust 2 mile radius and form it a stick, why TomTom do not leave you me? On the highway which in front smaller, than 30 is seconds far away only is to see a controversy and a restriction that I am not ready to also live. Every other government inspection department has I at all sticks with the zoom shot, which I stopped, not possessed it on me to force. Otherwise a large unit is however this "characteristic" sufficient controversy, so that I recommend me against TomTom.


small, compact and easy to use
If you want a lightweight, easy to use GPS unit this is the one to get. It's touch screen and so simple to use that you don't even need to look at the instructions. It works straight out the box and the is very quick and finding a new route if you don't follow the instructions 100%. The maps are not 100% accurate though, but if you find a route that you know is wrong and compare it with any of the online maps, Google, Yahoo etc. you will find that they are all the same, so not really a fault of TomTom.


Great Unit
I become totally with my TomTom a 3. Please expenditure government inspection department unit. It functioned to the right from the box. It is to be used very intuitively and I highy it would recommend. There is a version of the software for the Macintosh, which map-sheds additional updates to the contained diagrams with technology TomToms downloadet. Very nicely indeed!


Very pleased
I picked up one of these while Amazon had them on sale for $149.00. If you do a little bit of checking around, I'm sure you can find one for the same price. The packaging the unit comes in is challenging to get into to say the least! Once you overcome this little obstacle, the unit is very easy to set up and rather intuitive. I would suggest resetting it before each use. I had plugged in a location and turn the unit off, and then back on, and Tom Tom led me down a very secluded road, which ultimately led to a dead end! I was not impressed with the "you have reached your destination" voice as I sat there wondering how the heck this dead end road in the middle of nowhere was my destination! I did have a little bit of trouble getting it to connect to my computer, but once the software is loaded it's easy to upgrade. I've wanted one of the things for a number of years, and have no regrets over my purchase. It can save huge amounts of time in getting where you need to go in short order. Be sure to check the alternate routes, as many times they are better choices. Nice unit at a nice price. I think getting a case for this thing or an alternative dash mount would be a worthwhile investment. It does seem to say stuck to the windshield pretty well though. Not without quirks, but worth the money.




New software download fixed WSOD
My unit arrived just before heading out for our Christmas travels and I used it side-by-side with my older Garmin 2610. Hardly a fair comparison given the price difference, but the TomTom was great - I'm impressed, particularly with the signal acquisition time (very, very quick).

But unfortunately, I get the white screen of death. The unit won't warm start and requires a reset each and every time. That might even be okay if the reset button was easier to reach, because the reset startup is still faster than the Garmin regular warm-start.

UPDATE: early January Tom Tom released a software update that fixes the white-screen problem! My unit now works perfectly and I'm very happy with it. Too bad Tom Tom didn't publish this update where it could be found just with a web search - you have to call Tech Support to get the URL from them.

Good GPS but Ancient Maps!
I purchased one of the Tom Tom One 3rd Editions back on Black Friday and had high expectations for this unit. It was either buy this unit or purchase updated maps for my Garmin and now I wish I purchased the maps. The Tom Tom has maps that do not even include local streets that have been in my area since the late 90's! It even wanted to take me on one street that has been under water for my whole life....I don't even know if the road it was showing was ever connected the other street on the other side of the lake. The Tom Tom does allow you to correct this and share the correction but I wonder how long it takes for this to show up on new maps...months, years, ever?

The POI's in this area are very few and far between. On top of that, the ones that are on the maps are often not in their correct place. For example, Sonic in Baldwyn, MS was a full 2 miles away from where it really is and was listed on a totally different road. The McDonald's, which is really just across from the Sonic, was listed about half a mile from it's real location but on the correct road. Subway was the only resturant in that area that seemed to be in the correct location and it was only built like 2 years ago, the others are older! How does that work?

I'll probably end up selling this thing and end up updating my old Ique from Garmin. Without a good map you can't have a nice trusty GPS to take you to new places.


A Great Buy For The Money
This TomTom unit does exactly, what I it do wished. , nothing... me straight keep nothing more there smaller. I had first a problem to receive it in order to turn off on and, but attaching to TomTom house repaired automatically the expenditure. It is simple to use and update.


Good GPS for first timers
I bought this government inspection department with a quantity hesitating. But I am very lucky with the product. My primary interest was admission. I was ensured, which it would not function, if it is set somewhere differently than the windshield. But its admission is pretty good, even if someone holds it on the passenger seat. He does not say road name. It explains to make straight if (the distance) an idiom. But you cannot expect the "road of name" characteristic in a low model. The battery life is on the untereren side. I keep always the loading unit attached. It is good for its price.


It functions pretty well
Forwards I bought this product one month for $140. An appropriate price for a government inspection department system. I am glad I do not have not from a diagram to print, every time I go to a new place somehow more.


Tom Tom 1 Version 3 - Excellent Device
This is a large product. Believe that or not large function, by not reading the road name to you. They know why? Because 80% of the time, if I lost I am, cannot see the stupid road to sign somehow. So why payment more for an useless characteristic?? This government inspection department it explains to you within, many feet of your revolution you are therefore you, where the road is registered know, in order to be, and whether one turns left or quite. I love the characteristic, in which you can adjust a Hoechstgeschwindigkeitsignalton not to accelerate in order to remind you; as I kept straight stored from a map with this warning. Otherwise is this government inspection department! largely! Love the night colors and ability to turn the brightness down!! Objection #1 is that the suction bowl verge is not easily stored; it is an extensive point too. My 2. Objection is not is there sufficient celebrity voices, which are present for this device. Love this government inspection department, on $[...] in the small one, and $[...] on sales with the Tom Tom discount, this was a large price!! I do not need the Apple Iphone now, because those was the thing, which was I from him government inspection department and traffic information wished. Phil in California.
