Reviews:

starsFast firewire 800 and large capacity for movie making
This model has been improved from the previous 1TB equivalent model. The cooling fan now has a proper sized opening through the chassis to allow air flow. No more loud noise due to fan running at high speed due to poor air flow design. The triple interface, specifically firewire 800, make the speed of these drives extremely fast. I highly recommend this unit. I have copied and processed many terabytes of movie files on this drive using Apple Mac Book Pro and final Cut Pro. No problems or failures thus far.

starsMy Book Pro II/Premium II family great; problems with Vista.
This review covers the family of my pro II/Premium II orders of the book of Western DIGITAL, since the primary differences between the 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0Tb duel-leads models only imply the size of the pair of drive, insofar as I can say it. I to have the my pro orders II 1.5Tb of book and to have only configured it for factory-transfer the mode from incursion 0, since I wanted not-superfluity storage as much like possible. No matter who not with the current of the external orders of USB or cable of fire can be astonished with the transfer of data appreciably slower; the interface of USB or cable of fire is the bottleneck, not the order itself. For the bulk memory at the still-reasonable rates of transfer and for the purchase price of purchase per byte, these great orders of capacity cannot be beat - as a long time as they are reliable and it observes all the rules about securing the orders are sure to physically dismount the user starting from the computer (I will not cover the rules here; the operating software has its own section of assistance which can help the user who is dubious way of physically disconnecting their order without turning in addition to computer itself). APPROVE, again in Western DIGITAL my ordering of book II... when the order is received, the director of incursion which the software package should be installed before the connection in the order. After I did this and connected the order, I had a problem after others with the order disappearing in Windows, the going ventilator very extremely when there was no exit of heat to make it thus, then the order would act as it overheated and am stopped to me. Twice I received orders of replacement and the two orders of replacement acted the same manner. I appeared that the problem was not the order, thus I tested the second replacement on a second PC running Vista; same problems. I after moved the order with a PC running Windows.xp; no problem - the order functioned quietly and surely. It proves there is currently (12/22/07) a problem with Windows Vista and the manner that it stores the information of driver. The difficulty are found in their bulletin technique 1708 (go to www.wdc.com, support, raised frequently questions and write "1708" in "research the field by Keyword". This solved all my problems with my order and I can now recommend this order without reservations, however Vista is due for its first "brought back part" significant, SP1, in first half of the year of 2008 and these kinds of reported parts sometimes caused new problems. I think that the solution put forward in the bulletin technique 1708 was always useful if brought back part SP1 posed other problems, however.

starsDrive failed in 1 week
I was pretty excited to get this drive as a backup for the new Time Machine feature in Leopard. It seemed to work well but every time my computer went to sleep the backup would stop and would not restart. I tried not letting the computer go to sleep but the hard drive would power down in the middle of the backup. WD was no help and after a week the drive would not boot. The RAID manager said that Drive B was missing so I had to send it back. It also did not work as a USB drive off of the Airport. I am assuming this was because of the RAID software that comes with the drive. If it did not pwer down during backup I would be willing to buy another one and take my chances but I need it as a backup drive and I need it to stay on. There is no way to turn off the powersave mode so I think it deserves a low rating. Amazon took it back without any trouble.
